The Hinemoa Perfect Champagne Cocktail
“‘Drinks for the orchestra,’ announced Phryne promptly. ‘What you’ll have, girls? Ask Pierre, he will be delighted to serve you. And can you find another glass of that excellent champagne for me?’ she added in rapid French. He grinned conspirationally, booked orders for the ladies, and sped away on his errand of mercy. (...)
The Melody Makers laughed with relief. Phryne watched the party begin to wind down. The older dancers had already found chairs and were fanning themselves and wondering about the awful energy of the young. Phryne saw Mrs. Cahill, pink and perspiring, drinking iced champagne cup with Mr. Aubrey and Mr. Cahill. Margery Lemmon was still dancing with Death.”
Ava and I spent most of our crossing to South Island out on the deck of the Kaiarahi, where we gazed at the sparkling sea, mirroring my love’s eyes, or I read The Voyage aloud, or her wind-swept mane caressed my face under the sun, or chatting to people. But, we also lunched inside, still gazing out to the glistening blue waters, and I also read Death By Water, remarking that it would be nice to have a cocktail or two, eh? She agreed, and said we’d have to try and follow in Miss Fisher’s footsteps, and sail to South Island from Australia, next time! In the meantime, The Hinemoa Perfect Champagne Cocktail is an excellent, refreshing tipple, and makes great use of leftover Champagne after the Holidays! Happy Saturday!
Ingredients (serves 1):
1 teaspoon Cointreau
1 heaped teaspoon caster sugar
3 dashes Angostura Bitter
chilled Champagne, to top
Spoon Cointreau in a chilled coupe, and swirl it around the glass generously.
Spoon sugar at the bottom of the coupe. Place three drops of Angostura Bitters onto the sugar.
Very gently pour chilled Champagne over the Bitters-soaked sugar, to top.
Enjoy The Hinemoa Perfect Champagne Cocktail immediately!

Ah, I'm just thinking about last weekend (NYE getaway to a cottage in the woods) and how much I love that my friends are just as dumb as I am and can't stop making "that's what she said" jokes like,
(Everyone getting into a tiny car with all the bags and groceries)
Me: "Wow, I'm surprised you managed to stuff it all in."
Friend 1: "That's what she said."
*everyone sniggering*
(Driving into the village where our cottage is)
Friend 1: "Oh, it really is woodsy here, nice! I love wood."
Friend 2: "That's what she said."
more very mature sniggering
(Entering the cottage for the first time)
Friend 2: "Oh wow, it's a lot bigger than I expected."
Me: "That's what she said!"
*high fives all around*
And so on and so forth. We are all women in our mid thirties, by the way. Like attracts like (wouldn't have it any other way) <3
