as for where I get that stuff I have uhhhh Trained My Youtube Algorithm to say the least, and I'm also intentionally hunting things down. Clicking on random stuff if it looks neat and musical is a big part.

But also, I recommend a) (firefox) youtube freshview so it can snipe things you've already seen out of your way whenever you decide you don't want to see that stuff. a.1) it doesn't work in the subscription feed or on channels but that's like, fine. it's about controlling your sidebar when you intend to fall down holes.

AND b) blocking every fucking -topic channel. Oh my god they are a scourge on the land. Buddy if I wanted to see that video i'd watch the damn original.

for chromium based browsers, here's a contribution of the various extensions i use to make using youtube bearable:

annotations restored for youtube (restores in-video annotations for videos)

auto hd/4k/8k for youtube (allows you to have videos automatically play in your preferred resolution)

blocktube (allows you to block a large variety of content via channels, names, keywords, types, and more)

dearrow (uses crowdsourced thumbnails and titles to replace their clickbait-y originals. also has options for if the vid doesn't have any crowdsourced options)

freshview for youtube (hides already watched videos w/ customization settings)

multiselect for youtube (gives you various tools/options to manage your playlists easier)

return youtube dislike (returns the number of dislikes on videos)

unhook (hides a buuuuuunch of things recommended by youtube w/ lots of customization options)

youtube custom speed (allows you to highly customize what different speed presets display on videos)

youtube redux (changes youtube's layout to mimic older versions of the site. has a lot of customization options. note: it has a setting that makes the video player smaller turned on by default. imo it kinda sucks so i'm giving a heads up on how to turn that off right away LMAO) (seriously, check out the settings on this one)

youtube shorts block (changes youtube shorts to play as normal videos. has the option to hide the shorts tab on the left side of the page. also the option to hide shorts entirely, albeit this setting is currently labeled as "unstable")

hopefully this big ol list can help some ppl out :) also, pls let me know if any of these links break so i can update/fix them!!

edit: delete the stupid "https://href.li/?" at the beginning of the url after clicking the link if it's showing you the server can't be found/an error

I cannot put into words how much I Fucking Loathe the fact that when you search something on youtube now it will randomly intersperse blocks of "people also watched" and "for you" into the results. That's not what I searched for, youtube. I typed in a search query because I wanted to see search results, not random unrelated garbage you have placed in my way apparently to either inconvenience me or force me to scroll further for actual results. I despise your wretched little games and every time I see it I can only instantly close the tab as I am overcome with the urge to burn something down.
