Alternative universe Poland (doesn't know what GDL is)

It makes me sad that my boy Samogitia is always erased from GDL and then Commonwealth. Samogitia not so willingly merged with Lietuva because of Teutons and politics, yk, he was a power strong enough for Lithuania adding him to the official GDL name. Samogitian bear was borrowed by Commonwealth and became the Polish bear, and then Polish bear was stolen by communists and became the russian bear. If people sometimes try to add Ukraine and Belarus to Commonwealth at least as maids (still bruh🙄🙄🙄) then Samogitia is just absent, like it never existed.

I so desperately wanted to play a rook who was serious and thoughtful but no matter what every line felt like a quip or a joke. I generally like all the actors they chose to voice rook but rook's writing is the weakest of the whole cast hands down and that's the player character... So I think it makes perfect sense to feel disappointment.

Yeah the voice actors have been killin it; I really like Emmrich, Lace, and Solas' (as usual, king GDL, my goat, I'm biased, etc etc) performances in particular.

Emmrich discussing his relationship with death. Bellara opening up about her brother. They really shine in more grounded/serious scenes, which is why I wish the tone was less light.

Companions have always been quirky lbr, but it felt more balanced and well-timed than this. My girl Harding feels too wholesome-awkward to be a 35+ year old Inquisition scout. Rook feels too inexperienced and laidback to be a leader. Lucanis is a very handsome barista who I keep forgetting is part of the organization that ruined Zevran's life. Davrin and Assan have their own lil sitcom going on during this double blight. So on so forth.

Without rehashing whats been discussed a trillion times: the vibes are just off.

Anyway, Solas here grabs my attention. The rise of his head as he turns to see his Vhenan before bowing it low. I find it fascinating. <to be read in GDL's voice reminiscent of the whole finding the idea of Lavellan's focus being dominated fascinating.>

Solas, do you want to be grabbed by your chin and scolded before you're kissed? 'Cause it sure as hell looks like it with that look showcasing a mixture of pain, challenge, pleading, desperation, and determination.

I loved how they made solas sound more like a trickster in vows and vengeance. There was an almost sultry quality to his speech, the way he stretched words and lowered his voice to a whisper in others, and the way you could always feel the edge of a smirk in his voice ASDFGH I'm so obsessed with him and GDL's voice!

particular lines that make me weak:

"steady yourselves" (he says in a manner that prompts me to run around my room in hysterics instead)

"Ar dirthan’as ir elgara… Ma’sula e���var vhenan" (i would hire him to exorcise me!!!)

"[chuckles] I will demonstrate" (literally not recovering from this)

"among other things" (shut the fuck up you whore!)

"KINDLY REMOVE YOUR BLADE FROM MY NECK" (I... no words... 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵)

"do you think the threat of a knife brings truth?" (no but the view is definitely worth it vhenan)

"It's a frailty" (why must you sound so sexy while roasting someone I can't!)

I won't make this a million years long even though I could, mind you, but continuing off another post I very recently made about this same painting, there's something well-done storytelling-wise in the framing of Mythal in all her radiant splendor and Solas as her wretched creature lurking in the darkness.

And I think it does a good job capturing how you can think you know someone and then you see them before the people who hold a great and terrible power over them and your heart breaks because you see exactly what they've worked so hard to bury around everyone else. Or you see how much of them/their light has gone to the glory of someone else.

And he knows! It's clear (to my interpretation) from this painting that he''s well aware of what he became to ensure that Mythal is untouched, that Mythal is merely the innocent that gets betrayed and murdered by her peers, that it's Mythal is who the elves mourn all these millenia later. And it's not enough to free him, but it's enough for him to mourn.

But gosh it just hurts even more, especially if you bring Bellara on that final mission and he gets excited that she wants to ask him questions and she hits him with a "and all I REALLY want to know is why you'd kill Mythal." Killer VA work from GDL there but my God.

He's once again just the creature that advanced her goals but not well enough. But at least for all they got wrong, he succeeded in keeping her loved by those she craved admiration from.

Why is nobody talking about Lucanis’ voice breaking and the visible tears in his eyes upon getting home FINALLY after being in the Ossuary, and finding Caterina’s been killed?

Like I’ll applaud GDL all day for Solas’ vocal emotion and depth but good grief ALL THE VA’S KILLED IT AND ALL THE ANIMATORS!!
