Plateau massacre: Reps Minority charges NASS, security agencies to end killings
The House of Representatives Minority Caucus has condemned the killing of over 70 people in Gashish and Ropp districts of Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State. The Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, said the time has come to end the killings in the State. He urged the military and other security agencies to be unrelenting in tackling the crisis until victory is assured. In a statement he signed, he also called on the National Assembly security committees to commence a proper and detailed investigation into the persistent killings and proffer legislative solutions to end same. The statement reads: “The invasion of five communities and the killings of over seventy persons by unknown gunmen in Gashish and Ropp Districts of Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State on Christmas eve have raised national and global concerns about the security of persons in Nigeria, particularly the North Central region of Nigeria and murders that have gone for too long on the Plateau. “These murders, which have become the cyclical outcomes of inter-communal violence in Plateau State, show how grievances between communities can be turned into organised violence by unidentified groups and persons who use violent methods to address perceived differences. “When Jos was turned into an infernal theatre and a killing field in which one thousand people lost their lives in 2001, many thought that the violent expressions of differences had reached the Zenith; but unfortunately, more attacks followed in Jos, Wase, Langtang North, Langtang South, Shendam, Mikang, Qua’an Pan, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom, resulting in many deaths and the destruction of properties. “What is more sinister is that warning of impending attacks are unheeded by security agencies, coupled with the apparent unwillingness of the political leadership to arrest perpetrators and nip the violence in Plateau State in the bud. If the accounts of witnesses are to be believed, what stands clear is the act of collusion and conspiracy in the bloodletting. “The murders on the Plateau have gone on for too long and must be stopped now! “We extend our condolences to the Government and People of Plateau State over the murders. “While we appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of our Military and other Security Agencies thus far, we call on and encourage them to commit more and be unrelenting in tackling the crisis until victory is assured for all. “We also urge NASS Security Committees to draw strength from sections 4, 88 and 89 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, as amended, to commence a proper and detailed investigation into the persistent murders and profer legislative solutions to end same.” Read the full article

Meet the Imam who defile all odds and saved 300 Christians in #Plateau state killings The United States Mission in Nigeria has lauded #ImamAbdullahi Abubakar, who saved hundreds of Christians during an attack from suspected Fulani herdsmen in #Gashish District Plateau State on June 23, 2018. In a tweet, the US Embassy in Nigeria said it awarded Abubakar the Nigerian Star, “in recognition of achievement and service to Nigeria and Nigerians”. . . The Embassy described the 84-year-old Imam as a “peace builder” who put his “faith into action” by securing the lives of people of other religions. . . “I hid the women in my personal house and after that, I took the men into the mosque and hid them there,” he said. However, the assailants caught up with the Imam, forcefully demanding that he release those who were Christians in the mosque. But the cleric said he deceived the bandits that all those in the mosque were Muslims and upon hearing this, the attackers left him and continued with their killing elsewhere. #islam #nigeriamuslims #herdsmen #peace #nigerianewstoday #celebrationoflife #savetheworld #herdsmeninnigeria https://www.instagram.com/p/ByeZtTTDExu/?igshid=ir72snmmmnc2

Plateau killings: Imam who saved 300 Christians to get national honour — President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State to bring the 83-year-old Imam of Nghar village, Gashish District in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar, to Abuja for “a handshake and national honour.” . Lalong said the President took the decision following reports that the Imam saved about 300 persons on June 24 when suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded about 15 communities in the Barkin Ladi LGA, killing over 200 persons. . “I hid the women in my personal house and after that, I took the men into the mosque and hid them there,” Imam Abubakar had stated. . However, the assailants caught up with the Imam, forcefully demanding that he release those who were Christians in the mosque. But the cleric said deceived the bandits that all those in the mosque were Muslims and upon hearing this, the attackers left him and continued with their killing elsewhere. . Lalong said, “The President has told me to bring Imam Abdullahi Abubakar for a hand shake which will be followed by a national honour. I was also preparing what to do for this man. Although he is already in his old age, God knows why he did it at that age for us to study and also know how to maintain peace, not only in Plateau State but in Nigeria in general. . “What he did not only saved the people of Barkin Ladi LGA, not only Plateau State but I think the whole of this country because 300 lives is not a small number. So, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar, only God will reward you for what you have done. . . Credit: Punch — view on Instagram http://bit.ly/2LOZwwt

Rains Delay Relocation of Plateau IDPs to Ancestral Homes
Maj. Gen. Augustine Agundu, Commander, Special Task Force (STF) in Plateau, has attributed the delay in relocating the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area to their ancestral homes to the current rainy season. Agundu said this in an interview on Sunday in Jos. It would be recalled that the STF, in collaboration with Plateau Government in December 2018, commenced the relocation of IDPs in some camps to their ancestral homes. Prior to the commencement of the exercise , the STF had categorised the IDPs into three. The groups consists of those whose homes were intact but left for fear of being attacked; those whose homes were partially destroyed and those whose homes were completely destroyed by the attackers. The commander said that more troops were deployed to the affected communities before the relocation process commenced to assuage the apprehension of the returnees. “Some IDPs that fall under the first category in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi were assisted to return home. “The state government is doing a lot along this line and we must give it the accolades it deserves. It has commenced repair of the houses that were completely destroyed and those that were partially destroyed. “The government is working with the coordinator of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps to repair these buildings. “There are even some of the people who, on their own volition, want to repair their homes by themselves without waiting for government. “But rainy season is here and you cannot mould blocks, that’s why some perons are still in the IDP camps. “We have been able to assuage the apprehension which the people had and I am sure that once the dry season sets in there will be nothing like IDPs camp here, anymore,”he said. Agundu further commended the Plateau Government for the passion that it had shown in ensuring that the displaced persons returned to their homes. According to him, some of those who are still in the camps are those that were displaced during the 2010 and 2012 crises. “Those that were relocated were the ones that were actually affected by last year’s crises. “The present administration inherited the situation but it is quick to ensure that the people return to their homes,” he added. Plateau killings: Handle Miyetti Allah same way as IPOB – Nigerians tell Buhari
Nigerians on Social media have called for the arrest of Chairman, North Central zone of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Danladi Ciroma, for claiming that the Sunday attack on Plateau State villagers was in retaliation to the death of their cows.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
thebiafrastar reporter reports that the Chairman, North Central zone of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Danladi Ciroma, on Monday claimed that the killing of 86 persons in Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area l of Plateau State was in retaliation to the killing of over 300 cows in the last few weeks by the villagers.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
He was quoted as saying “These attacks are retaliatory. As much as I don’t support the killing of human being, the truth must be told that those who carried out the attacks must be on a revenge mission.
“There have been recent reports of cow rustling and destruction of farms between Berom farmers and Fulani herdsmen. The people carrying out these criminal activities are well known to the communities but the communities are hiding them.”
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Reacting to the statement, Nigerians on social media called for justice on Miyetti Allah for the killings.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
They asked that Buhari should declare them terrorists, wondering why the killers of innocent Nigerians were still walking freely.
