Do Crystal Gems only collect gemtech left by Homeworld or also dangerous magical/mystical human artifacts?

If so, has SHIELD/HYDRA or someone else tried to infiltrate the Temple? Given the many secrets it could contain.

No, just Gem artifacts. Rose was fairly strict about letting humans have their own triumphs, but also letting them make their own mistakes. If they interacted with other magical spheres of influence, it was only because they were in the same place at the same time - i.e., if a Corrupted Gem happened to attack magical creatures.

SHIELD is vaguely aware of the Gem presence on Earth - remember, all Gem ruins are warded against human intrusion, so all they can find is the rare report of Corrupted Gems straying from their territory and coming into contact with unlucky people. They are not aware of the location of the Temple (but SWORD, of course, is, since they had a working relationship with Rose. They are not inclined to share it)

SU HC - Crossover Ideas

I dunno why exactly, but I just like the idea of the Gems not knowing everything.

Like, I dunno. I guess that I feel it's a bit lazy to just make the Gems have the tech to cross universes or fight spirits/ghosts when I don't think that it's been mentioned that they did.

In fact, doesn't Garnet outright say that ghosts aren't real or something like that? I can't remember.

It's much more fun to see them blindsided by things that they don't understand like in the Uncle Grandpa episode.

Like, each civilization progresses in different ways. So, they specialize in different things.

Gems, I feel, wouldn't really have much need to cross universes unless they'd already conquered the entire universe.

So, if your story needs to get the characters to a new universe, I'd like to see the writers get creative as to how.

Like, maybe it's because of something in the other universe.

Also, I've always seen Gems as being an example of technology so advanced that it's almost indistinguishable from magic.

From my perspective, they are sort of like ai with their gems being the supercomputer that generates hard light to form a body that can interact with the world & uses extremely advanced nanotechnology to accomplish everything they can do powerwize.

In this way, they don't really have magic. Not actual magic anyway. It's just that 'magic' is a simpler way to say it.

So, this would make them interacting with actual magic very interesting because they are an innately science-based species.

It's definitely worth examination especially when interacting with things that should be myth & legend.

Not to mention, they don't really experience death, so things of a spiritual or spectral nature should be very odd & even foreign to them.

Keep in mind that the Crystal Gems didn't really interact much with humans on the reg & after the war, there were only 4-5 of them at most. 2 of which mostly counting as one considering they were usually fused.

So, even though they were very old, it's very very possible that they missed a lot or even ignored things of a non-scientific nature. Thinking it all odd organic storytelling & fantasticalism.

Either way, it feels silly & kinda narrow-minded to chaulk everything strange up to Gems or Gemtech.

Interesting though, would be the Gems actually thinking that it is because that's been their experience, only to learn later that it isn't & having difficulty processing this fact.

Same anon about the Steven universe miraculous crossover. The one crossover I can recommend is Change is Universal (and International) it’s on Ao3. Another thing to look forward for Chloé’s possible redemption is also having closure with Pollen. Maybe a scene where Ladybug or Steven encounter a Gem or Gemtech and nearly threatens the city.

In fact, I kinda would love to make a fic where Chloe and Spinel form a close bond due to both being neglected at one point in life. Honestly, I think both would understand one another and know how being neglected lead them to the dark side.

hmm... good question. i'd say the first is the more likely option? why settle for human-made connections when you can create a better one with your gemtech and smarts? (i have no clue how that all works btw, i'm going on cartoon logic.) this makes me wonder though... would it become standard for all gems to use the human internet, or would they create (or already have) a homeworld version of the internet? the Gemnet. i mean, if they're going to use human-made cellphones it's probably the former. but i like the idea of a Gemnet, by gems for gems with no human interference.

How do different types of magic interact with the gemtech/Diamond powers?

It's pretty hard to give you specifics, considering how many different magical systems coexist in the Kverse and the enormous variety of spells each one brings to the table, but I can tell you that Gem magitech doesn't mix very well (or sometimes, at all) with other kinds of magic.

Magic that directly affects the mind and body typically doesn't work on Gems because, quite simply, they don't have those things in the traditional sense (unless, like Amethyst, they've modified themselves to have such things).

Gems don't benefit from any kind of healing magic (aside from their own), nor are shattered Gems affected by necromancy.

Spells that affect other people's perception usually work, as long as you keep in mind that their bodies are hard light projections and the gemstone is the only true physical part of them.

Gems are physically unaffected by the passage of time (they would be immune to getting aged to death by time magic, for example).They are also immune to mind control.

Magic that affects the environment around them works like usual (like, an explosion spell nearby would work the same way).

Magic that attempts to manipulate the enormous quantities of energy within a Gem's core is super risky. Few have the mental fortitude to tap into that wellspring of quintessence without consequence (usually, explosive containment failure).

That being said, the powers of the Diamonds do primarily translate to light and sound, and magic that affects either would tend to have more of an effect. For example, a BI Witch's flame magic would be no more effective than regular fire against a Gem (so, ranging from minor inconvenience to completely harmless or even beneficial), but Bard magic would be more likely to affect them - at very specific frequencies and energy levels, Gems can have their programming altered or damaged, develop cracks, or even be shattered wholesale.
