Em Julho do ano passado, as Nações Unidas partilharam a sua preocupação com o impacto “severo” que a IA e a mineração de criptomoedas têm no ambiente. Um estudo do Unctad – Escritório da ONU para o Comércio e Desenvolvimento revela consumo excessivo de energia e água potável de novas tecnologias digitais e acelerada extração de minerais.

O Unctad mostra-se preocupado com a possibilidade de se esgotarem matérias-primas finitas para tecnologias digitais, com o aumento do consumo de água e energia e a crescente questão dos resíduos relacionados à digitalização.

Os países em desenvolvimento são fundamentais na cadeia de fornecimento global de minerais e metais de transição. O continente africano detém reservas significativas, que incluem 55% do cobalto mundial, 47,65% do manganês, 21,6% do grafite natural, 5,9% do cobre, 5,6% do níquel e 1% do lítio. Segundo o Banco Mundial, a procura por recursos necessários para a digitalização, como grafite, lítio e cobalto, pode aumentar cinco vezes até 2050.

Também o Brasil possui grandes reservas de minerais de transição, incluindo 26% do grafite natural, 19% de elementos de terras raras, 14% do manganês, 12% do níquel e 9% da bauxita. O estudo destaca o impacto da mineração em ecossistemas naturais. Cerca de 11.670 km2 do desmatamento da floresta amazónica brasileira, observado entre 2005 e 2015, foi causado pela mineração. The clock struck 12am. As i heard the grab rider leaving the ordered item on the house gate. I came out to collect the chocolate cake and cheese cake (coffeebean). I placed the candle on the chocolate cake as he loves chocolate cake (i couldnt get chocolate indulgence cake as secret recipe was closed). I went to the room to surprise him. As i walked into the room, i could feel my late brother in law with me as i surprised him with the cake. Minder was surprised that he received a cake like this. The last time we had celebrated his birthday was in BSS with me and Metay (when it was after midnight). I remember seeing him smile and being all bashful. I wanted him to remember all the good things despite the issues that we had been facing the past few months. Thankful i had recorded his expressions bcus what would happen in the morning changed our lives entirely.

It was about 10/11-ish when i received the most dreaded phone call from the Paediatrician from SGH. She told me that there was some abnormality found in Mannat’s blood test (our second born who was 7 days old) and that she does not know what was abnormal. She informed me that the immunology nurse from KKH will call me. I took her words literally like she doesn’t know. But tbh, how can a healthcare professional not know what abnormality it was and calling the parent to say about the test had abnormality but do not know what it was.

After i hung up the call, I called out to Minder to share it with him. I held my chest n told him the news. I said that I was scared. He reassured me and said maybe its nothing serious and not to overthink. But a post partum brain overthinks alot. The phone rang again and it was the KKH nurse. After probing more, she shared the results from the newborn metabolic screen. It stated that the Severe Compromised Immunodeficiency Disease was out of range and he had to come to KKH to repeat the test the next day. We agreed to come over the next day at 8:30am.

Meanwhile the entire afternoon, i was googling about his condition and crying. Minder was being very optimistic and said, “dont worry. Maybe its a false reading. Or maybe his immunity hasn’t kicked in and when they repeat it, it will be normal.” I cried, “ i hope that’s the case.”

I texted my work best friend who also googled and helped me ask her oncology friends about what is it about etc. she informed me that Mannat has no immunity and required bone marrow transplant to get his immunity. Transplant can happen if either parents, or siblings is a match or they will take it from the cord blood (which we didnt store, so we have to take it from someone else else). She also told me that Mannat has to be in isolation for months to a year. I was horrified. I told Minder about it. He didn’t want to look or sound panic. He just said it’s ok. Dont cry. I couldnt stop crying. Did I cause my son to inherit this gene from me? Is it my fault? Till date, this thoughts still linger in my mind. At one point, Minder came out of the toilet sharing more information about this condition to me. He told me not to worry. And that treatment is a success if Mannat doesn’t catch any infection. Hearing that made me feel better but to think that Mannat has to undergo so many blood tests and the poking, the line insertion. Waheguru. I cried again. I started to have these thoughts, why did i wanted a second child? I should have been happy with Akaal. Why am I subjecting him to all this pain? It’s all my fault. Will Minder hate me for giving Mannat this? What if he starts to despise me just like the Savour365 tiktok video. (It was an article about a young mom who has a sickly child and left her job to look after the child. After few years later, the child got very sick and had to be hospitalised. The husband started to get distant. The wife kept overeating due to stress. When the wife wanted intimacy from the husband, he refused to hold her hand, touch her or even kiss her. He then shared that he despised her and think that she couldnt even do a good job in looking after her son (even though she was a SAHM). He blamed her for it)). I was so scared that this will happen. Minder and I have been distant since the last trimester. He did share his concerns with me. And i agree that i have not been the best partner, not best in listening. I have always reacted when he made a statement. So he feels like it is best not to share with me. But lately, we have been a little better than before. Even though, he feels that i will always scold him or make comments. For instance, helping me change my spectacle frame, he said dont scold me if u don’t like it. I said i wont scold. I just need a new frame cus my glasses is falling off. He constantly said that twice to thrice which hurt me. Tbh, i couldnt care if the glasses was nice or pretty. My vision to look after my son was more important. He got the glasses and i held myself from making any comment that i used to make easily. I was giddy from the new glasses cus i need time to get used to it. So i dealt with it on my own bcus if i made the comment, he would respond with ‘i told you already. U wont like it. See lah.’ Frankly I am thankful that he got the glasses and they wont fall off so easily when i change Mannat’s pampers.

Married life is hard. It is not a bed of roses everyday. Intimacy doesn’t always been sexually or lovey dovey. It can be getting your spouse the spectacles that she needed, managing your other children while she manage the other one (i understand that i dont say it often but i do appreciate him looking after Akaal. But i get frustrated cus i am the only one managing the lil one the whole day with no breaks). This is a test of our patience, marriage, love. But it will be for the better.

Sethan,   even   before   being   called   here,   has   always   been   a   night   owl.   Most   thieves   are   after   all.   The   night   and   darkness   has   always   been   Sethan's   closest   friends.   Sethan   waited   patiently   for   Metai   to   open   the   door,   and   when   he   did?   Sethan   couldn't   help   but   to   blink.   Now   this   was   not   the   sight   he   had   been   expecting   but   honestly   he   wasn't   going   to   complain.   "Did   I   catch   you   at   a   bad   time?   I   can   come   back   if   so."   Sethan   offered,   not   wanting   to   interupt   the   other   if   he   was   doing   anything   important.

Sethan   followed   after   Metai.   Watching   as   he   took   a   seat   on   the   couch.   He   nodded   his   head   and   moved   to   offer   the   other   the   bag   that   was   in   his   hands.   A   small   blush   forming   on   his   cheeks.   "It's...A   gift.   A   thank   you   for   all   of   that   help   yesterday."   Sethan   said   as   he   waited   for   the   other   to   take   it.   A   beautiful   necklace   that   he   had   bout   from   the   boutique   store   the   other   day. 

"It's   nothing   magical,   but   i   wasn't   sure   what   I   could   get   you   that   would   be   useful   to   you.   When   I   get   better   maybe   I   can   try   enchanting   it   or   something."   Sethan   said   as   he   scratched   the   back   of   his   head   sheepishly.   "Just   wanted   you   to   have   something   as   a   symbol   of   my   appreciation,   I   guess." 

Finding out that you weren't even safe in your dreams was definitely something that wound up bothering Matai. You would think that being in your cabin would help to keep you safe, but being whisked away in your damn sleep shorts to the middle of frozen Russia - or at least the dreamscape of it - proved that you couldn't count yourself as being completely safe there. And it also tended to mess with your sleep, too. Of course, Matai didn't sleep a lot as it was - a short sleeper, he realized he had been called - but now he found himself being cautious before going to bed.

To help him fall to sleep, Matai decided to use the forge on the side of his cabin. He wasn't building anything specific, simply just hammering the heated metal to find a sense of serenity, the rhythmic sound of the hammer beating against the metal bringing him to peace. He hadn't noticed anyone had approached his cabin until Blaze, his Boerboel, rose to his feet and began to bark. Stopping what he was doing, he moved to grab the bucket of water to douse the flames in the forge before he headed to the front door.

As soon as he opened it, he was greeted to Sethan - one of the guys that had been whisked away to their nightmare-scape in Russia with the wendigo - and the one that he had helped stabilized after he wound up falling. "Oh... Sethan?" he asked, confused why the other was here this late - but he supposed that the son of Hecate found it easier being up this late. "I uh... sure, I guess." Sweat coated his body, both from his workout at the forge - and from the heat near the forge, too - and he moved to push the door open wider. "Come in."

Once they were inside, Matai headed for his couch and sat down on it for a moment before he moved to raise an eyebrow in his direction. "What's up?"

Porsche Is The Knife - Meta

I noticed this in ep06, there’s a moment where the camera lingers on Kinn closing the knife (I’m sure @moerusai​ has a gif of the exact moment) and handing it back to Porsche. Symbolically I figured this was Kinn giving the “key” and thus his freedom, back to Porsche. Since narratively that’s what the knife was in the episode, the literal key that unlocked the chains binding them together. 

BUT the thought kept lingering in my head because the shot was so purposeful. 

And that Korn’s speech this episode rang out to me. Korn’s speech, according to the subs is as follows: 

“Since you got out of the woods, your eyes have changed. [...] In the past, I had a lucky knife I kept with me; very sharp. It even split a coin. But I liked to use that knife to cut apples for your Mama. The next thing I knew, the apple juice got the knife all rusty. It never could cut anything since. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

So what is Korn saying here? Similar to the chess scene from ep05 Korn is speaking in metaphor and subtext. He’s making subtle insinuations towards Kinn’s ability to lead the family. Or rather, implying that he’s becoming unable to lead and protect the family. 

In this metaphor, Korn is saying Kinn is the knife, and as a weapon he can’t allow others - ie Tawan or Porsche - to dull his blade. If he, the weapon of the family, can’t be used, the family is left without it’s protector and leader. Kinn can’t get rusty, because then he’ll be weak. 

But, Kinn isn’t the weapon is he? He’s the king piece, which is - objectively - one of the weakest pieces on the board, the one meant to be protected. And the strongest, the Queen, is better suited as a weapon. 

Porsche is that weapon, he’s the knife. 

I know some folks won’t like the wording of that because Porsche is so much more than a weapon, and a weapon sounds simplifying. And rest assured Porsche is more than “a weapon”. He’s also a shield! Thus his function as a bodyguard. 

Korn views - or at least is insinuating to Kinn - that Porsche is a weakness, the rust on his blade, when in reality, Porsche is his blade. A beautiful, deadly shield and sword. You could almost say Porsche is Kinn’s knight in shining armor lol but in terms of this metaphor, Porsche is The Knife. 

And to be sure, a knife isn’t just a weapon. It’s multi-purpose. A knife can be used as solely a weapon, but it can also be used as a tool to feed people - how do you think they cleaned those fish in ep06? - to protect, and as seen in ep06 to even break free of literal chains. 

I thought the knife was just a metaphor for just being a key towards freedom, but it’s more than that. 

It’s a symbol of Porsche’s own many facets in both his life, Kinn’s and their relationship. Porsche won’t be Kinn’s weakness, but his strength, both his weapon and shield, and the key to both his and Porsche’s own new combined dream of freedom.

experience / how many years:  almost 8-9 years? i think i re-started here on tumblr back in late 2015ish, but i had been rping in a 1x1 setting for about a year before that and i wrote caroline-centric fanfic for about 1-2 years before that, if that counts 

best experience:      i’ve had a lot, and they’re all super partner dependent tbh like every once in awhile you get lucky enough to find those partners that you really just click with and vibe with and getting to experience that a handful of times has definitely been a highlight

rp pet peeves:    the level of attitude and borderline ego that people can have about certain things, whether it be feeling that they can dictate who / what people write. and also the idea that it’s everyone else’s job to maintain / curate your safe space and not your job to establish and maintain your own boundaries for your own safety. 

fluff,   angst,   or smut:  anything that allows the ability to like toss in a little bit of meta, i like to write fluff that has a flair of angst or angst that has a flair of fluff or smut that gets to be wordy and metay

long or short replies:    it depends? i have a tendency to get really overwhelmed with long replies if i have too many of them, but then i also really love the writing stretch that comes with long replies. but overall i would say like 1-2 paragraphs is my sweet spot unless we have stuff SUPER plotted out or if we have kickass writing chemistry 

are you like your muses:   it depends; i think writing is really personal and it’s almost impossible not to insert pieces of your experience into your writing and it’s almost impossible not to inherit some pieces of something from a character. i think we tend to write what we know and what fascinates us, so i would argue that i definitely have similar traits to a lot of my muses but nothing that’s like “omg we’re actually the same person” --- but i do love cleaning and organizing and i try to be positive and nice to people.

China avança na produção de hidrogénio através da divisão da água com energia solar

Investigadores chineses afirmam ter melhorado significativamente a eficiência da conversão de água em energia limpa de hidrogénio, aproveitando a luz solar.

Este é um avanço na dissociação fotocatalítica da água para a produção de hidrogénio através da “remodelação estrutural” e “substituição de elementos” num material semicondutor, noticiou na terça-feira a agência de notícias estatal chinesa Xinhua.

A produção atual de hidrogénio movido a energia solar depende principalmente de dois métodos: um utiliza painéis solares para gerar eletricidade para a eletrólise da água, o que requer equipamento complexo e dispendioso, enquanto o outro emprega materiais semicondutores como catalisadores para dividir diretamente as moléculas de água sob a luz solar, de acordo com Liu Gang, diretor do Instituto de Investigação de Metais da Academia Chinesa de Ciências e líder da equipa de investigação.

A chave para dividir a água diretamente usando a luz solar está num material chamado dióxido de titânio. Quando exposto à luz solar, funciona como uma central de energia microscópica, gerando pares de eletrões-buraco energizados que decompõem as moléculas de água em hidrogénio e oxigénio, explicou Liu.

No entanto, o dióxido de titânio tradicional tem uma falha crítica: a sua estrutura interna assemelha-se a um labirinto, fazendo com que os eletrões e os buracos ativados colidam aleatoriamente, se recombinem e se aniquilem num milionésimo de segundo.

Além disso, o processo de fabrico a alta temperatura do material provoca frequentemente a perda de átomos de oxigénio, criando “zonas de captura” carregadas positivamente que capturam eletrões.

A equipa de Liu resolveu estes problemas introduzindo escândio, um elemento de terra rara vizinho do titânio na tabela periódica, para reestruturar o material.

Os iões de escândio, semelhantes em tamanho aos iões de titânio, encaixam perfeitamente na rede de dióxido de titânio sem causar distorção estrutural.

A sua valência estável contraria o desequilíbrio de carga causado pelas vacâncias de oxigénio, eliminando as “zonas de armadilha”.

Além disso, os átomos de escândio reconstroem a superfície do cristal, criando facetas específicas que atuam como “autoestradas e viadutos eletrónicos”, permitindo que os eletrões e os buracos escapem do labirinto de forma eficiente.

Através de um controlo preciso, a equipa de investigação desenvolveu com sucesso um material especializado de dióxido de titânio com um desempenho significativamente melhorado: a sua utilização de luz ultravioleta excedeu os 30%, e a sua eficiência de produção de hidrogénio sob luz solar simulada foi 15 vezes superior à dos materiais de dióxido de titânio anteriormente relatados, estabelecendo um novo recorde, disse Liu.

“Se for utilizado para criar um painel fotocatalítico de um metro quadrado, podem ser produzidos cerca de 10 litros de hidrogénio num dia de luz solar”, frisou Liu.
