Giants third baseman Daryl Spencer loses his cap in a futile effort to score as Dodger catcher Roy Campanella tags him out at plate in second inning, April 26, 1953, at Ebbets Field. Bases were loaded and none out when pitcher Jim Hearn hit a fly ball to Dodger right fielder Carl "The Reading Rifle" Furillo, whose perfect throw to the plate was in time to catch rookie Spencer trying to score after the catch. Umpire is Frank Dascoli. The Dodgers won, 8-4.

HO HUM, ANOTHER ONE .....
And I’m not talking about a win, though we did, and I am, but this is about the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants game on Thursday night football. Evidently, this particular game had a few brawls going but these were in the stands, not on the field, and involved two “ladies” throwing blows at each other, who were eventually pulled apart when a beer drinking man fan, pulled one by the…

Hi! Thanks for asking my questions a while back, but I was rewatching and had another one. I think you said some specific writer who wasn’t you mostly wrote the Sisko baseball stuff, so I was curious: what were the team loyalties for people writing that, if you remember? My mom thought it must be a National League team because in the scene where they’re on their first date, Sisko seems to approve of Kasidy’s brother’s league not having a designated hitter. (We’re an AL family — Tigers and Orioles — so she was pretty salty about that, haha.)
Team loyalties of DS9 writers (the ones I remember):
Michael Piller - Creator, main baseball guy - Dodgers - BOOOO!
Ira Behr - Showrunner S3-7 - Yankees - BOOOO!
Ron Moore - Giants - YAY!
Rene Echavarria - Braves I think? He didn't grow up with the Marlins - Shrug
Me - Giants - YAY!
Hans Beimler - Pumas UNAM (Didn't care about baseball, I decided to root for Club América just to be contrary)
Draw your own conclusions!

One of the many reasons that the 1920s through the 1950s was the "Golden Age" of New York is that it had three major league ballclubs, all fierce rivals. The Yankees were the emperors of the diamond, the Dodgers were the scrappy underdogs, the Giants were ... well, I'm not sure what they were.
A highlight (or lowlight, depending on your point of view) came on October 8, 1956, when the Dodgers, the 1955 World Champs, faced the Yanks in the World Series once again and were not only shut out, but had the only perfect game in Series history thrown against them by Don Larsen. The scoreboard tells the story. 27 up, 27 down. No hits, no walks, no errors. no runs.
