The wire-coral goby or whip coral goby (Bryaninops yongei) is a benthic species of goby widely distributed from the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian Ocean (including the Red Sea) to the islands in the center of the Pacific Ocean. The whip coral goby has a semi-transparent head and body, with white scales running along its vertebra. Its head is reddish-brown to violet in color and the goby has pink to violet-red eyes. Their coloration is noted to match the color of the coral they inhabit. Gobies such as the whip coral goby respond to chemical signals released from the coral reefs they inhabit. The gobies will eliminate algae toxic to coral from their environment and will also clean mucus build-ups off of coral.

Urchins abound! Found snorkeling/free diving, a few vibrant and colorful gems (though just the test or skeleton of deceased) from the near shore of #OtokZlarin #ZlarinIsland in Croatia (see previous posts about site visit for @smilo_org). I saw a lot of #seaurchins, #seacucumbers, 6 or 7 fish species, including more than one monster #gobyfish, some #needlefish, and some #commontwobandedseabream, which remain on the #IUCNredlist as a threatened species. - - This past May, 70 university students from #Zagreb worked on #Zlarin doing a major #environmental/#biodiversity review of the island that will include a geo-referenced map. They are still compiling and will be back for a return visit for follow up. Some interesting findings with a couple of surprises (I will wait for the report before dropping early details). The report did encourage the local team to think about other strategies and projects for implementation when consideration locations for improvement/development and things like #sustainabletourism. #sustainableislands #islandresilience #resilientcommunities #precovery #resilience #precoverymindset #bluemind #latergram - - Note: when I used this picture of the urchin tests in another post I had people ask if I brought them home with me. I did not. I put them back in the sea. There were a few tidbits that had me smiling so I thought I’d share them here.

1. ‘Propose’ - Changjo names the song, and Niel accepts it as the right answer very quickly. Considering how much the maknae line fought over what was Andy’s debut solo song, it was very anticlimactic how fast they decided on Changjo’s choice. It may have had something to do with the countdown too, of course, but that Niel accepted Changjo’s only suggested answer without question tugged at my heartstrings nonetheless.

2. Changjo laughing when they get it wrong. - As someone who followed Teen Top a couple years ago, it’s reassuring to see Changjo’s finally learned to tone down his competitiveness and just give way to laughter. It’s too early to judge, but I watched the Chuseok game clip recently and Changjo does the exact same laugh when Niel rags on him during the Yut game. His amusement at Niel getting so worked up clearly outweighs his exasperation there, and that replicates itself in this scene, where Andy fools them into getting the wrong answer. Niel huffs and pouts, but Changjo just laughs. To me, it sounds like a laugh tinged with fondness and helplessness, as if to say, “what do I do with you?”

3. Wordless communication - When Andy starts guessing the name of C.A.P.’s first exhibition, Changjo mouths something with this unexpected tiny gesture  and Niel immediately nods his head. Ricky is still talking to Andy at this point, so obviously Changjo wasn’t talking to him. No, it was Niel whose confirmation Changjo immediately sought, and judging from the successive nods, Niel understood whatever was going on almost instantaneously. 

4. Changjo’s straight-on stare - by timestamp 1:52, Changjo’s gone back to his default mode of staring straight at Niel. His body language is unmistakable: he’s shifted his entire body to face Niel. He’s also reverted to that habit of affirming what Niel says. Listen to him saying, “right, right” and “yeah, yeah” at the tail end of Niel’s sentences.

5. Gobyfish - The way Changjo describes it as ‘something round-sounding’ clearly has Ricky stumped, but not Niel. And look at their cute, excited faces when talking about this old nickname! Notice that about 2 seconds after Changjo leans back, Niel mimicks the action and leans back too. Timely coincidence, maybe?

6. Mood shift - This happens around 3:12. Changjo is now fiddling with his phone and Niel is no longer openly smiling. Whatever happened in between the takes appears to have subdued the mood, because Niel is no longer directly looking at Andy (his gaze keeps drifting down), and Changjo is no longer as hyperfocused as he was until that point. Niel’s smile only returns when they look at the last question, which is Changjo’s first solo song. (Personally, I thought it was curious how Niel was so certain Andy wouldn’t know the answer, and how he couldn’t say anything anymore when his guess was proven right and he he just burst into soundless laughter).

Side note: For whatever reason, it’s very hard these days to find clips of only Changjo and Niel. There’s usually a third party acting as their (un)official chaperone for activities. It’s usually the 4 of them (5 if you count pre-military Chunji), or Ricky being an indispensable third wheel. I mean, I love Ricky as much as anyone invested in Teent Top does, but it does seem to be unusual when I think about how much footage we used to get of just ChangNiel hanging out. Is it just me?
