CURRENTLY WATCHING:  April.
Tumblr media
KOREAN.
+ Call It Love (2023)(26 Feb-) ★★★★☆
I love the tone this drama sets. It has a bit of a rosy, moody feel that ends up being so lovely and whimsical. There is so much to love about this drama from our lead couple to all the sibling feels along with Yoon Joon. It's refreshing how this drama balances the every day with just a touch of magic. I've enjoyed the case study of our lead characters and delving into their motivations and fears.
+ Our Blooming Youth (2023)(6 Feb-) ★★★☆☆
I would not be able to expand on anything about the political tensions of this drama. All the palace politics can't seem to keep my interest. Every time one of the red turtle squad is front and center, my attention just wanders. I only watch this for the cute aspects of our lead trio. I live for all the scenes that capture our jealous prince.
+ Taxi Driver (2023)(s2)(17 Feb-) ★★☆☆☆
Not loving this right now. I am enduring this for Lee Je Hoon. The weekly bad guys are way too cartoony and extremely over-acted.
JAPANESE.
+ Hyaku man kai Ieba Yokatta (2023)(25 Mar-) ★★★☆☆
This didn't seem like a premise that I was necessarily drawn to but the cast made me interested enough to check it out. I've been pleasantly surprised by this show so far. It's really nice to see Inoue Mao back on the small screen. I've missed her!!
+ Mare (2014)(8 Jan-)
Plan to Watch.

some sentiments about Tamamori Yuta's acting journey - part 1
*💛 : drama main role || 💛💛 : movie main role
Gokusen 3 SP & Gokusen The Movie (2009) - as Takasugi Reita
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the first time I saw Tamamori Yuta~! I started watching Gokusen series from Gokusen 2 then when I saw Tama, I'm not exactly sure what was it, there's something adorable about him that stuck on me. I got interested in him and searched more about him, found that he is one of Kis-My-Ft2 members, one of Johnny's junior groups that hadn't officially debuted yet. I already knew Kat-tun at that time, Kisumai got me interested for a while before some things in life put me away from internet world.
Support roles in Shiawase ni Narou yo (2011), Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata (2012), Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou The Movie (2012), Zeni no Sensou (2015)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I watched all his small roles after I watched his big/bigger roles~ I actually skipped almost everything except his parts (gomen) >_<
Ikemen desu ne (2011) as Katsuragi Ren 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tama's first main role in drama!! I've watched the Korean drama they adapted long years ago (maybe soon after it aired at that time) but I watched this Japanese adaptation after I'm interested in Tama again (will mention this later on the drama that made me into him). Maybe because I watched this 10 years later, I cringed so hard ; x ; ugyah- I enjoyed the Korean one (story pretty much the same in adaptation) when I was much younger but not anymore? 😅 I even have the pig-rabbit doll from this drama that I bought soon after I watched the original long years ago haha~ The only reason I watched this whole (cringey) drama was because Tama, of course. Somehow he matched his role pretty well. First main role (and his real main job is idol) which not bad, pretty good for his career.
Ataru (2012) as Ebina Sho
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tama-chan acting with Nakai-san!! Tama's supporting role here was good and I enjoyed watching this drama, it's pretty nice and exciting~
Nobunaga no Chef (2013) & Nobunaga no Chef Season 2 (2014) as Ken 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tama's main role for 2 seasons drama!! French chef travels to the Sengoku period (time-slip), eventually becomes the chef of Nobunaga Oda. It was pretty nice drama to watch. Tama got his main role here after the director (iirc) watched his (really) hard work on variety show, and he did it pretty well.
Pin to Kona (2013) as Kawamura Kyonosuke 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like Tama's main role here~! His character is adorable and kind, he did well and I enjoyed watching this drama~ I'm not fond of main female character here but kabuki world as setting is quite interesting.
Yonimo Kimyou na Monogatari 2014 Spring Special - Neet na Kare to Cute na Kanojo, Honto ni Atta Kowai Hanashi 2015 Summer Special - Doko Made mo Tsuitekuru, Yonimo Kimyou na Monogatari 2019 Rain Special - Sakasama Shoujo no Tame no Piano Sonata (one of main roles in special dramas)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from these 3 drama specials I like Sakasama Shoujo no Tame no Piano Sonata the most, simply because Tama as pianist~! 笑 It's the most interesting from all 3 too. Neet na Kare to Cute na Kanojo is the kind of story I'm not interested to watch, it's okay~ I tend to avoid horror story but since it's Tama, I watched Doko Made mo Tsuitekuru with anxious heart ;_; (it's scarier since it based on true story?)
Seishun Tantei Haruya: Otona no Aku wo Yurusanai! (2015) as Asagi Haruya 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
didn't enjoy watching this drama, watched it only because Tama's there ;_; one of his (drama) friends there becomes his good friend in real life, lovely~
Raintree no Kuni (2015) as Sakisaka Nobuyuki 💛💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tama's first main role in movie!! It's pretty okay~ not the kind of romance I enjoy though. Tama worked hard learning kansai dialect here, he did pretty nice in this movie.
Reverse (2017) as Asami Kosuke
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS. When I first watched this (was it 2021?) I just finished watching one drama with Tama in it that made me interested in him again. I started watching this before checking casts, I used to see good reviews about this drama and finally watched it after several years. I was surprised to see Tama in this drama, first he looks different!! and then his acting here, I really enjoyed watching him~! his character gave me various feelings and Tama did very well. Heard that he really learned about acting from the director here and it improved him, like a turning point. I really wish Tama gets more chances to do grey/darker roles ; ;
Juuyou Sankounin Tantei (2017) as Maneki Kei 💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tama's acting improves gradually year by year but it's more apparent starting from 2017 (reverse drama). Actually I didn't really enjoy this drama, I also not fond of main female character here (again ; ;), but visuals, good~ When watching 2017's dramas of Tama I realized that his acting style is the type of acting I like a lot (the most), subtle and profound acting.
Parallel World Love Story (2019) as Tsuruga Takashi 💛💛
Tumblr media Tumblr media
great actors and actress, adapted from a novel by popular mystery author, Higashino Keigo, I feel like this movie can be much more but okay, it still impactful personally because it's Tama's first bed scene >///< really, Tama is great in more complex/darker roles. Tama in this movie is very different with real him, and he did it very well.

This song was originally released as a joint digital single (arranged by Yuasa Kouichi)  by Berryz Koubou and C-ute for their joint stage play Sengoku Jieitai, which later got remade as a Berryz-only musical. However, both groups later released a physical copy of the song in their respective albums (Berryz’s album arrangement was by Uesugi Hiroshi and C-ute’s by Takahashi Yuichi), hence the sheer number of credit tags.

#lgbtdramas // Gomen ne Seishun! [support]
- I’m gay! GAY! Or... rather... At heart, I’m a girl, and I like boys. I feel more at ease with girls. - We... know? - Right, you’re... “transgender,” right? - Actually, it kind of feels like, “why are you only now...” - No way! - Well, you’re wearing [the girl’s school’s] uniform... - Since we became co-ed, I tried to be brave and wear this. I was sure you would tease me, but you didn’t say anything, so I thought you were being considerate and pretending not to notice. - Isn’t it more because it suits you naturally?

Just got done watching Gomen ne Seishun and I LOVED it!!!! I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did since I really hate Japanese acting. But in this the acting is easy to ignore and is sometimes funny. Plus I feel like the story is the centerpiece of the drama, not the acting. I love the symbolism of the Goddess of Mercy statue as Hara-sensei’s mother and how he interacted with her throughout the series. The schools merging together was a great storyline and I absolutely bawled my eyes out for Cosme’s storyline. I honestly didn’t expect them to portray Gender Identity Disorder so well (I don’t have it so I cannot speak with the voice of someone who has experienced it so this is just my opinion). Japan is usually slow/nonexistent with dealing with disorders or mental health issues, so I was completely surprised when they actually portrayed GID in a positive light. The students themselves already knew Cosme was like that and accepted him/her for who they were.  However, I’m conflicted about the whole fire incident. I wanted Hara-sensei to confess a lot sooner but I can also understand how much it must have been weighing on him. I love how the series ended, though I wanted him to remain a teacher. The culmination to the culture festival was done perfectly and it really makes me wish we did stuff like this in America. This is one of the few jdramas I actually love and I’m excited to watch more jdramas and fall in love with them. I really wanna watch more that emotionally touch me like this too lol

MeseMoa. - Happy Happy Birthday (Dear Aoi. Ver)
youtube
Music and Arrangement: halyosy
Lyrics: halyosy and Musumen.
Please don’t repost without permission.
This song was written to celebrate Aoi’s 20th birthday in 2019, and was included as a secret 11th track on their 2nd album It’s Showtime!. Each member’s solo verse was written by that member himself.
Please bear in mind that, because it’s a secret track, no official lyrics sheet exists, so the Japanese may be formatted slightly different (e.g. using kanji for a word I’ve written in hiragana).
See here for the Dear Irumii Ver. that was included on their 6th single.
As always, a huge thank you to @namfonrainwater for helping me and checking everything through!
ENGLISH TRANSLATION - HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Woh oh oh
Happy, Happy Birthday to you!!
Aoi!
I can't believe how quickly you turned 20!
You’re already 20!? Yet still only 20!!
I'm so excited to see what your future has in store
Aoi
Now that you've turned 20 you've become an adult
I’m sure there will be a lot of changes
But if ever you're struggling you can count on me like always
Aoi
Before I realised it we'd spent 6 years together
You dedicated your whole youth for us
You really are an amazing guy
No-one knows how much farther we can go
So let’s have fun together until the very end
Woh oh oh
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
Let's add another light and make another memory
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
We're living through the same time as you
Aoi-kun
I thought you would become a fine adult
And grow taller than me too
So don't you dare stop at the same height!
Aoi-chan
I'm sorry for always treating you like a child
Like a family! That's us down to a T
No matter how much you grow up, that'll never change
Aoi-kun
You've overcome so many hurdles
I'm sure I've hurt you at times
But thank you for always staying with me
The days we’ve spent together as a family
Are just like treasure to us
Woh oh oh
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
You'll climb one more step and become an adult
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
We're living through the same time as you
Aoi-san
I’m so glad we've been together this long
And now I get to share this day with you
First of all let's grab a drink and make a toast
Aoi-kun
You've come to smile so much
And that makes me happier than anything
I might be an unreliable older brother
But I'm always on your side
Aoi-kun
I'm a little sad to see you so grown up
You're as cute as you are mischievous
Everyone's star and our little brother
That's right, our kid is the best!
You worked harder than anyone else
And we saw that closer than anyone too
Woh oh oh
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
Let's add another light and make another memory
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
We're living through the same time as you
Woh
Woh oh oh
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
You'll climb one more step and become an adult
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
We're living through the same time as you
Woh
Woh oh oh
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
Our only treasure in the world
Happy, Happy Birthday!!
We're living through the same time as you
We'll live through the same time as you
Woh oh oh
La la la la la…
Aoi-kun, congratulations on your 20th birthday!
Woh oh oh
La la la la la…
We're living through the same time as you
We'll live through the same time as you

i saw your post and was curious, what other japanese dramas do you enjoy? any personal faves you would recommend? ^^
heya ^^ oh my, dear anon. you opened the box of the pandora. because even though i’ll just give you the list on top of my head this is going to be long orz
my favourite drama can be sorted in the following categories:
- ridiculous school drama (with occasional dash of romance) which i watched   mostly in middleschool & highschool ®- slice of life drama with amazing houses, roommate shenanigans (S)- detective & crime drama with the occasional supernatural twist ©
(I will put a “holds up!” next to some older series which i’ve rewatched that are still great despite their age!)
. Gokusen, 2002 ®: the classic high-school delinquents meet a strong teacher and start to show their vulnerable side story. trope galore but it never gets old to see Yukie Nakama as Yankumi, grand-daughter of a Yakuza family beating the shit out of people. → holds up!
. Manhattan Love Story, 2003 (S): a gentleman of a barista starts to meddle in his customers lives so that they’ll finally get the time to appreciate his coffee. → holds up!
. Hana Yori Dango, 2005 (R): the classic. some parts are icky regarding the bullying but the most down-to-earth rendition of all the versions. → holds somewhat up!
. Kurosagi, 2006 (C): a swindler who swindles swindlers. besides the notorious Yamashita Tomohisa one of my favourite actors in his now 80s Yamazaki Tsutomu delivers a shakespearean performance. don’t remember much, only that Yamazaki Tsutomu is glorious.
. My Boss! My Hero!, 2006 (R:) a 27 year old yakuza heir has to go back and finish high school. some weird age-gap thing going on but it is freaking hilarious (the infamous pudding run scene). me and my friends are still singing the ending song during karaoke.
. Nodame Cantabile, 2006 ®: hilarious rom-com set in a music college
. Hotaru no Hikari, 2007 (S): the love story is not that important (even though I love the main female character) because the real star of the series is the house!
. Bloody Monday, 2008 ©: gruesome crime series with college kids helping in an investigation. Michiko Kichise as one of the policewomen is brilliant. i have a crush on her. Hiroki Narimiya is very hot in this, my bi heart is happy.
. Love Shuffle, 2009 (S/R) - 4 people living on the same floor of an apartment complex decide to swap partners “for science”. stellar cast with my crush Karina, Shota Matsuda and more. rare occurrence of a well written gay main character, Shosuke Tanihara is great in this. tw: one plotline starts very dark, featuring themes of depression & suicidal thoughts → holds up!
. BOSS, 2009 ©: not only does this drama have Michiko Kichise (s.o.) but it is headlined by Yuki Amami. my favourite female character in jdrama land. she is strong, intelligent, weird af, slightly older than the average jdrama heroine, has platonic friendships with very hot guys and is herself very hot. one gay side-character who is sadly written underwhelmingly. → holds up!
. MR.BRAIN, 2009 ©: neurologists gets added to a major crime devision. the science in this doesn’t hold up but the cases are pretty rad (especially the piano one, episode 4 I think?) → holds up!
. Otomen, 2009 ®: guy who enjoys female coded hobbies such as knitting and playing with dolls tries to keep up a manly facade in school. some nonsense but I still live for Asuka Masamune’s “female” side. sadly a gay sub-plotline that doesn’t get handled well.
. Tumbling, 2010 ®: bad boy & high-school delinquent Wataru Azuma (Yusuke Yamamoto) joins the male rhythmic gymnastic team of his school to impress his crush on the women’s team and to appease his teachers. discusses toxic masculinity in a great way and has a really good gay subplot (with Daito Shunsuke) (if i recall everything correctly). the cast actually learned rhythmic gymnastics for this and this level of care & passion shows. → holds up!
. Atami no Sousakan, 2010 ©: maybe my favourite japanese drama ever. with the brilliant Odagiri Joe & Chiaki Kuriyama who play two detectives that get send to the small town of Minami-Atami to support the local police in a mysterious case of a vanishing school bus when some of the missing school girls return to town. turns out that the case is weird but the town and its people are even weirder. (i have hardly laughed so hard when watching a tv series) → fucking holds up!
. Asuko March, 2011 ®: due to bad grades Nao Yoshino has to enter a technical highschool and finds herself surrounded by only boys. the romantic plot is average but some great plotlines about emancipation and femininity. and Emi Takei in a working overall handling tools =
. Arakawa Under The Bridge, 2011 (idek what genre this is): this drama is just weird af and for that sole reason worth a watch. the soundtrack is also great.
. Ouran Highschool Host Club, 2011 ®: this drama is pure camp, allures to  some incesty/gay plotlines that are really not great when you think about it but its one of the best manga adaptations I know and just pure hilarity. also: Yusuke Yamamote is made for slapstick.
. Watashi ga Renai dekinai Riyuu, 2011 (S): again featuring my love Karina as a tomboy. fucking great portrayal of different kinds of women and their friendship plus a great house with roommate shenanigans and cooking. → holds up!
