I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!
#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Class is dismissed.#I'll be back later with a few more answered asks </3 despite everything I'm still going to work and I need the extra sleep.#Thank you for the well wishes! And if you read all of that info dump; thank you for that as well!

no, but really, we need to talk about the casual objectification that has become the fallback discourse of the internet: if you're pretty and dressed nicely, you're a slut. and if you're even vaguely outside of their body standard, you're fucking disgusting.
too-frequently, people position sex workers as being "the problem". they sneer you're addicted to pornography, you don't know what a real woman looks like. but real women are in pornography. the real bodies on display are not the issue here: the issue is that other people feel extremely confident when commenting on someone's physique.
2000's super-thin is slowly worming its way back into the public ideal. recently i saw someone get told to "go for a run", despite the fact she was on the thinner side of average. not that it would ever be appropriate to say that: but it's kind of like sticker shock when you see it. people think that is fat? holy shit. do they just have no idea about things?
but what are you going to do about it? that's the problem, right. because chances are - you're a normal person. we can say normalize carrying fat on your body, but we are not the billion-dollar diet industry. we are not the billion-dollar fashion industry. we are just, like. people. who are trying to make content on the internet, without being treated shittily.
as someone who has been on both sides of things: you are treated better when you are thin and pretty. this is statistically correct. i am not saying that you cannot be bullied for being thin; i'm saying there are objective institutional biases against certain bodytypes. there are videos of men and women who lost weight all saying: i now know for a fact exactly how much worse you're treated. in the comments, some asshole inevitably says something akin to you deserved to be dehumanized when you were fat.
which means that ... the easiest thing to do is be pretty and thin. it is the path of least resistance, because of course it is, because any time you post a picture of yourself without a thigh gap, someone immediately comments something like you need to try a diet.
the other half is also dehumanizing though, huh, just in a different way. when i put on makeup and nice clothes, i am told i slept my way to the top as a professional. do you know how many women in STEM have told me they purposefully dress to "unimpress" because they already struggle to be taken seriously and if they're ever considered pretty - it for some reason takes away from their authority.
so they make it seem like it's your fault. you, existing in a body - it's your fault! if you didn't want shitty comments, don't have a body. they position us against each other like chess pieces; vying for male attention we don't even need.
and i can be an authority on this unless you think i'm fat and unattractive. when i am pretty and thin, i'm an activist. when i am just a normal person who makes a good point: i am immediately dismissed. nobody fucking believes you if you're not seen as attractive. you literally lose value. you cease to exist.
but the whole time, it feels like - is anyone actually grounded the fuck in reality? the line of "pretty and thin" keeps shifting. nobody seems to understand what "a normal weight" even looks like, because it's not something that exists - you cannot tell a person's health by looking at their body. even if you think you could tell that, even if you're sure a person is dangerously overweight - people are not your dolls. they do not need to be dressed up or displayed properly to soothe your aesthetics. you aren't concerned for them, you're stealing their agency. you don't get to say if they're "allowed" to take pictures and post them on the internet - you don't get to tell them how to exist.
people hide behind "the obesity epidemic" without any actual qualifications. they crow things about "normalizing unhealthiness".
but it's bullshit. i have visible abs. there is a pair of parallel lines on my body, even when i'm relaxed; where my obliques meet my abdominal wall. i am proud of this because it means i'm strong, because i overcame an eating disorder only to be ripped as fuck. it is genetic and physical luck that i even get any definition, i'm pleased as punch.
but it does mean that my abdominal wall sticks out a little bit. the other day i posted a video of myself dancing, and, for a moment, my shirt slipped. you could see a little bit of my stomach. i was cartwheeling to the floor. moments before this, i'd had my foot over my head.
a guy slid into my DMs. a row of vomiting emojis prefaced: you should really lose some weight before you think about dancing.
i stared at it for a long time. there was a time when i would have been triggered by this, where it would have encouraged me to starve myself. i would have ignored the fact i'm flexible, agile, good at jumping: i would have lost the weight for a stranger's passing comment. i would have found myself and my body fucking disgusting.
and for what? to please what? because why? so that he can exist in this world without an unchallenged eyeball? what would my self-hatred even accomplish? usually i write paragraphs. obviously. on this particular occasion, in this body i've been at war with for ages: i just felt exhausted.
it shouldn't be even worth saying. it shouldn't be hard to explain. all of this emotional turmoil when he cannot even comprehend the most basic truth: i am not an object on display for him.
#spilled ink#writeblr#warm up#like if im getting fatshamed. babe......... wake up#is there fat on my body? yes :)#btw this behavior wouldn't be okay even if I WAS overweight!!! that is my point!!!#it is both that people have no idea what weight is supposed to look like#and even if they DID... they do not seem to understand that PEOPLE ARE NOT DOLLS#YOU DO NOT GET TO TELL THEM HOW TO EXIST#if you respond anything akin to ''but raquel there IS an obesity epidemic''#you're blocked and reported.#go fucking DONATE TO A FOOD BANK THEN. volunteer in a food desert. start a free fitness program#GO GET A DEGREE AS A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AND PRACTICE IN NUTRITION IN UNDERPRIVILEDGED LOCATIONS#FIGURE OUT HOW TO LOWER FOOD COSTS. FIGURE OUT HOW TO NORMALIZE AND STANDARDIZE#ACCESS TO FARM-FRESH FOOD. PROVIDE ACTUAL FREE ACCESS TO OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES#FIGURE OUT HOW TO TEACH PEOPLE HEALTHY CHOICE MAKING WHILE ALSO LOWERING THE COST OF MEALS.#THE AVERAGE GROCERY BILL OF THE AMERICAN CITIZEN HAS QUADRUPILED IN THE LAST YEAR.#SHUT. THE FUCK. UP!!!!!!!!!#you don't want to help these people!!!!!#you want to bully them but still feel like a good person!#you want to be justified in your hatred of an entire CLASS of people!!!#you don't give a fuck about how it makes them feel!!!!#you care ONLY about whether or not YOU get to VIRTUE SIGNAL that YOURE so thin and pretty!!!!#it is BECAUSE of people like you#and the fact you tolerate fatphobia - BECAUSE of that normalization. that men like the one who called me fat#feel like they can get away with it.#bc there's a line for you where you WOULD be okay with it. where if i WASNT thin you'd be okay with it.#which means the line can always be pushed in a certain direction. and it's always going to appeal to male aesthetics.#''well you didn't deserve it'' maybe fucking NOBODY does babe. maybe we should just all agree not to comment on ppls bodies!!

Yewchubing upd8:
I haven't been too well but am striving to get back on things. I'm about 70% done with the first in a series of Fallen London lore vids.
I haven't chosen my next book, and while I should pick something suitably pop bombastic, I'm being drawn to BETHANYS SIN which seems to be about a cursed town of man hating horse shapeshifters. I don't want to start a book until this fl thing is written though.
Also, helping no one, I'm considering making something in twine again. I miss twine

Surprendre! Bird hugs!!
(The owl kicked me out for getting too many things wrong so that one's from google lol I couldn't find how you say "Surprise!" like you're jumping out at somebody so maybe that's not a thing over there)
Anyway hello!! How are you? I hope you're doing okay and your food from last night was good (>^-^|^-^<)
Haha we do have it. 'surprendre' is the infinitive of the verb you just yelled 'the act of surprising!!' though I guess you guys don't have verb infinitives do you? You just say 'to surprise'.
Anyway to yell surprise in french just say 'surprise!' ;] it's a transparent word when it's an interjection. (Which is like 'Oh' 'ah!' or even 'fuck!' but those are in both languages. Would be pretty stale if we didn't have those lol) Now then!
Birs hugs!!!! Yippeeeee!!! I love the gifs you find ^^ I'm alright! Got what I needed to get done today so I can go to work on my art shtuff lol. The croque monsieurs were very very good. I wish I'd taken a picture now. I might just make more now.
Ps. (You do find infinitives in some cases like 'je me suis fait surprendre' but in English you'd translate that 'I was surprised [by something]' that's really weird don't really know the rule for when to use the infinitive. I guess you guys can't make sentences like that, it's understandable that you had issues with it. I'll look it up for you.)

Understanding the Liskov Substitution Principle (LSP) in Swift
In this article, we'll explore how Liskov Subtitution Principle (LSP) works in Swift with practical examples, including a mock implementation for testing and a real implementation that loads data remotely. We will also discuss common pitfalls and best practices for ensuring LSP compliance in your Swift applications.
The Liskov Substitution Principle (LSP) is one of the five SOLID principles of object-oriented design. It states that: “Objects of a superclass should be replaceable with objects of a subclass without affecting the correctness of the program.” (Paraphrased from Barbara Liskov’s) Barbara Liskov, a pioneering computer scientist, introduced this principle in 1987 as part of her research on data…

truly so baffling to me to hear people complain about their electronics like my coworker was complaining that her 2017 Mac was so slow its barely functional and it’s like what do you MEAN your 8 year old Mac is dead? mine is from 2013 and runs flawlessly?? what are you doing to your $1000 machine ??? filling it with peanut butter and TikTok viruses?????
#and I’m fairly callous with mine. I’ll download anything. (although I am a tech guy so like I can think critically but#I do tend to download a bunch of random shit from like Reddit threads and forums lol) and yet my Mac is like practically mint.#his only crime is sometimes he dies at 20% and gets hot and can’t run 32bit programs (<apple’s fault)#he’s still running max graphics stardew valley with 900 mods and Minecraft mid graphics with 200 and like 30fps (<good for modded mc)#Apple truly making solid products considering every midrange windows pc I’ve used became garbage in like 4-5 years 🫥#ive spent more on my 4 windows PCs in the last 20 years than this one Mac that will probably keep trucking for another 10 years.#Like sorry im not an apple freak but considering how many devices I’ve bought used and fiddled with…… kind of incredible how Apple has#somehow managed to come out on top in the longevity/ease of use/privacy departments.#if windows didn’t force you to update and use their bloatware bullshit and not let you CONTROL THE MACHINE YOU BOUGHT id be less mad#but every time I use win 10 or 11 I want to shoot myself in the head. win1011 softwares practically feel like malware.#a day in the life of steeve#only reason I would ever have a windows device is to play sims 2. (works on Mac but no utilities which are indispensable these days).#and I’m thankful Emily has a top tier gaming laptop for me to use for sims <3#if I ever need another pc I think I’ll venture into Linux. my steam deck runs Linux and it feel so pleasant and friendly compared to win11.

I've been trying to bug dad to pass me some boring shit to work on from one of his projects or another for a while, and he's handed me a few sketches to do vector lineart for but it's been pretty slow going. the other day I asked for advice about like, prepping for and looking for entry level graphics work and I guess some other conversations took place and mom convinced him to let me do some spot art for a project from work. so that's neat. yay nepotism.

“Next time I’m doing the talking.”
“And you’ll what, threaten the information out of them?”
“It’s better then whatever the hell that was!”
Fritz grins as he follows behind James and David, hoping he can use ‘out of sight out of mind’ to stay out of the argument for as long as possible. As much as he loves watching the two argue, he learned the hard way that he will be a participant one way or another, and the two do not hold back on using psychology warfare.
The last time he sided with James, David claimed a full 12 hour long training session was solely because he thought it would be beneficial for Fritz. The last time he sided with David, James sent him on a goose chase trying to find his homework that had gotten ‘misplaced’ before magically appearing in the truck’s glove compartment.
Fritz has had to legitimately think about the pros and cons when it comes to picking a side no matter who he actually thinks is in the right. He tends to pick James considering David only really makes his training sessions either more difficult. It’s the shorter of the two who scares him the most, always a lot more creative in getting Fritz back for not supporting James. There was even a few terrifying weeks when he had to sleep with one eye open or else wake up in the bed closest to the door and the curtains wide open so the sub shone directly on him.
He doesn’t mind it. Has had to constantly look over his shoulder for the past month, but believe it or not he genuinely enjoys it. Because it means David doesn’t hate him, and James doesn’t regret letting Fritz continue to travel with them.
“What kind of excuse is ‘he’s his son’!”
“Not every kid looks exactly like their parents, David.”
“That is not what I’m upset about and you know it!”
Okay, now Fritz has to chime in even though he will guaranteed get into trouble in the form of revoking his invitation into David’s room.
Just as he opens his mouth to join in teasing David, an arm suddenly wraps around his shoulders, stopping him from walking and forcing him to huff in surprise.
“There you are,” greets an unfamiliar voice Fritz is confident he’s never heard before, though there’s no mistaking the sound of a smile. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”
Before Fritz realizes what’s happening, in one fluid motion he’s turned around so he’s being led back the way they came.
Stunned by what just happened, he looks up to see who’s acting like he knows them, only to nearly trip from overwhelming terror. He’s only able to stay standing because of the hand gripping his shoulder as he’s forced to continue walking. Walking further and further away from James and David’s voices.
“Sorry for the intrusion,” the vampire smiles, flashing their fangs. “A bit rude of me swooping in like that.”
Despite the apology, Fritz isn’t let go as he’s led down the sidewalk. Which is bad, very bad. He doesn’t have any silver on him, but even if he did it’s currently daylight. Good news for him because not even a vampire will attack with so many witnesses around, but bad news for the hunters who also won’t for the same reasons.
That’s even if David and James even noticed he’s not following them anymore. Fritz has never wondered off before, so he doesn’t know if they’ll be too focused on the argument to realize, or if they would’ve heard the vampire speak and turned to see what happened.
What is he supposed to do? Should he screech for James and hope the vampire assumes he’s calling for his coven out of surprise? Should he try to run? What if he corners himself? What if they realize he smells like a hunter?
“Trust me, I know practicing how to hunt humans is something all fledglings need to do,” the vampire says in a casual tone, almost seeming flippant. Like Fritz actually does know them and they’re just here to give him support and advice. “However, you do not want to mess with those particular humans. I don’t know if your coven told you about hunters, but you should know those two would’ve killed you even if you weren’t going to feed on them.”
Fritz tries not to look so afraid. He’s a vampire, and before the coven smelling silver on him, he was never attacked by another vampire. Questioned why he wasn’t with his own coven, shoved around for being in the way, but no one’s ever been aggressive toward him. This particular one even seems to genuinely be friendly and only grabbed him for his own safety.
Which he’ll admit is incredibly ironic. Rather than feeling safe with someone just like him, he feels nothing but the terror he’s supposed to have regarding hunters. Hunters he can only hope are following him.
“Now don’t feel bad for not realizing they weren’t normal humans,” the vampire reassures, either oblivious to Fritz’s fear or mistaking it at the reveal he would’ve been killed if he was anyone else. “Not a lot of covens keep silver around to help teach fledglings, but hey! Real world experience is the best way to learn!”
Fritz finds himself slowly relaxing the longer the other talks. He doesn’t completely drop his guard, he’s waiting for the moment the vampire finally realize he has had plenty encounters with silver, but he can’t help himself from wanting to trust another vampire. The arm around his shoulder is protective, and from their point of view, they just saved a fledgling from getting brutally killed by hunters despite them being strangers. It reminds him of something James would’ve done.
“The names Eggs by the way.”
“M-My names Fritz.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Fritz!” Eggs grins. The taller vampire then leans in closer, forcing Fritz too hold his breath to keep from panicking. “Now, not to alarm you, but the two hunters you were stalking have been following us.”
Fritz tries to hide his relief. “R-Really? What, um...what should we do?”
“I think we should get the jump on them,” Eggs smirks. “What do you say?”
No, this is bad. Going somewhere dark and quiet would make it easier for James and David to kill the vampire without worrying about anyone seeing, but that means the vampire will be able to ambush them, with Fritz stuck in the middle of it all.
“Didn’t you say they’d kill us?” Fritz murmurs. “Wouldn’t it be better if we split up and ran?”
Eggs laughs. “Well where’s the fun in that! Come on, it’ll be a good teaching lesson! I promise you won’t get hurt.”
Before Fritz can think of something to say, they’re turning into a narrow alleyway. As Eggs’ arm drops away from his shoulders, he’s torn between feeling relieved and wishing to have the comforting presence back. Neither wins as dread settles over him at the sight of  the vampire stretching their arms up as they roll their head, clearly preparing for a fight.
The moment James steps around the corner, hand reaching into his suit jacket, Eggs winks at Fritz. “Watch and learn!”
“Wait!”
His yell is ignored as the vampire steps forward, catching James’ arm as the hunter swipes with his knife. James quickly grabs for his gun with his other hand, only for Eggs to beat him to it, grabbing the weapon and tossing it out of reach, not even flinching from his skin burning after touching silver.
Suddenly, a hand grabs Fritz’s arm as he gently shoved behind David, the taller hunter stepping forward as he trains his gun on the vampire.
The only problem is Eggs quickly twisting James’ arm, the hunter hissing in pain as he’s spun around to be used as a living shield. “You wouldn’t want to shoot your partner, would you?”
“Bold of you to assume I haven’t been looking for an excuse to,” David growls, making Fritz screech softly alarm at the threat.
The tall hunter doesn’t give any indication he heard or understood the plea to not shoot James, but Eggs’ eyes have suddenly gone wide as the vampire looks from Fritz, to David, back to Fritz before landing on James. Then a giant smile stretches across their face.
“Holy shit, you’re with him!”
Everything freezes at the exclamation that sounds amazed rather than angry. And then James let go.
David fires the moment he has a shot, but Eggs already ducked out of the way, holding his hands out to form a t. “Hold on, time out. Yellow card to the hunters for firing during a temporary truce.”
“A what?” David snaps, and Fritz is unsure which part of the sentence the hunter is asking about.
“You got a yellow card! Get a red and you’re in timeout for an hour,” Eggs proclaims. “Now I’ve got questions. First off, who’s fledgling is that?”
James and David share a look. “Sorry, what?”
“Who’s fledgling is that?” Eggs repeats, gesturing toward Fritz still hiding behind David. “Do one of you answer when he calls, or does his coven lend him out to hunters on the weekends?”
“I answer,” James responds hesitantly, his hand wanting to reach for another weapon, but looking unsure. Even David’s lowered his gun, though he pointedly pushes Fritz further behind him. “Why?”
Eggs beams. “Are you serious? A hunter adopted a fledgling! I am dying to know everything!”
“Everything?” James asks.
“Everything,” the vampire confirms. “Are you hungry? I know the best restaurant in town where we can eat and talk, it’ll be my treat!”
David immediately shakes his head as James looks up at him. “Absolutely not.”
“Oh come on,” Eggs pouts. “We’ll be in a public space with multiple witnesses. What’s the worse that can happen?”
The tall hunter only gives a fierce glare. When James looks at Fritz who, try as he might, can’t help wanting to talk to a vampire who would rather talk wih them then fight. Since they’ll be answering questions, maybe Eggs won’t mind answering some of theirs in return.
James nods in agreement to talk, making David growl lowly as Eggs immediately begins to lead them out of the alleyway.
“This is going to be so much fun!”
