[ReShade 5.1+] No More CAS UI & More

Well, dang. I guess it is possible after all. I was looking for a way to hide the UI in CAS via some complicated method, but instead found a site which led me to this guide to a ReShade add-on called ShaderToggler 🤩 I haven’t found someone create a TS4 tutorial for this yet so here ya go.

📌 UPDATE 05/04/2023: I’ve added one additional step in the installation section for GShade users! Thanks to @loveatfirstsim for the new addition😁 I’ve also updated the previews gifs to reflect the current setup for shortcuts.

📌 UPDATE 15/08/2023: added new toggle groups to hide CAS BG & mirrors.

How it works:

One of the features of this add-on is the ability to toggle on/off in-game shaders: UI, geometry, post-processing effects, and more (not reshade shaders). You do that by putting certain shaders together into a group which you can then toggle on/off. This is quite useful for CAS shots as you can't hide the UI when you use ReShade/GShade (unlike build/live mode where you can simply press tab). 

This add-on is made by Frans Bouma/Otis_inf so huge credit to him as without this add-on this wouldn’t be possible.

Keep in mind that this add-on doesn’t prevent shaders (bloom/dof/mxao) from affecting the UI, it just hides the UI shader from view. This, along with a shader like ChromaKey/DepthAlpha that allows for transparent backgrounds, makes a great duo! No more cropping to exclude the arrows and editing out the background manually 🙌 (unfortunately alpha hair suffers a bit from it.)

What you’ll get by the end of this post:

A ShaderToggler.ini file that will hide CAS UI elements with the option to either leave the sim/trait icons and trait selections intact for posing your sims, or hide everything except for your sim. Great for taking close-up shots.

There'll also be a toggle to hide infant pillow in CAS, hide CAS BGs & mirrors, and hide camera UI when your sim is taking a selfie/picture in-game.

ReShade/GShade requirement:

For Reshade users: tested on Reshade 5.8.0 (w/ full add-on support), but it should be compatible with ReShade 5.1+.

For GShade users: 

To check if your GShade supports add-ons: check the ReShade version it's based on in the shader notification at startup, similar to the menu here (GShade x.x based on ReShade x.x). You can also check in the reshade panel and see if there's a menu for add-ons.

Installation:

First, make sure that you have the correct ReShade with full add-on support!

Grab the add-on from this github release. For non-legacy players, grab _v121.zip. For legacy players, grab _x86_101.zip

Extract the ShaderToggler.addon file into the game’s \Bin folder where your TS4.exe/TS4_64.exe is (where you had also installed ReShade/GShade).

Still in the \Bin folder, drop the ShaderToggler.ini file you downloaded. You’ll end up with both ShaderToggler.addon and ShaderToggler.ini in the same folder as TS4.exe/Reshade.ini.

The .ini file should be named ShaderToggler.ini for the add-on to recognize it. So, if you download another file from someone else with a different name, you should rename it back.

If you’re a GShade user: there’s a folder called gshade-addons; this is where you should place the ShaderToggler.addon file. Just move the add-on from the \Bin folder to the folder mentioned and you’re good.

Open up your game. If you see the add-on & list of toggle groups in the Add-ons tab, then you’ve successfully installed the add-on & settings! Restart if needed.

Toggle main CAS UI (traits & trait selections excluded): Ctrl+ ]

Toggle pillow for infants: Ctrl + ; (semicolon)

Info:

Q: Will this work with custom CAS Backgrounds?

A: Yes, it will! CAS Backgrounds (and sims) are grouped differently than UI shaders so they won’t be affected by this toggler. For example, you can toggle off the hair, face mesh, body mesh, and parts of the CAS background separately as they’re all contained in their own shader group.

Q: Does this work on Detailed Edit Mode?

A: Yep :)

Q: Can I assign another shortcut key for the toggles?

A: Yup! In the Add-ons menu, expand the Shader Toggler tab, go to the List of Toggle Groups section, click Edit, and assign the Key shortcut to the button of your liking. Make sure to save all toggle groups so that you don’t lose your edits.

Q: I’d like to try out this add-on and make a toggle myself. How can I do that?

A: The Shader Toggler tab has all of the required information stored under the General Info and Help section, so best to read it as the info comes straight from the dev. There’s also a video example linked in the information page if you prefer that.  Do note that it requires a numpad to configure, so use the On-Screen keyboard with numeric keyboard active if you don’t have a physical one.

Q: Will this work in build/live mode?

A: Not fully, but yes. I’ve made this toggle with CAS in mind so I don’t see the need to cover all UIs in those modes as you can hide them easily with the tab button. It’ll most likely miss a few UI shaders here and there but it should work.

Hello, anyone who sees this! I wanted to try my hand, since I was inspired by the lovely @redandbluebracket‘s idea. Now with different colors! I’m not too used to this, but hopefully I can get some traction!

Google liked seeing Bing in lingerie, never one to complain at the sight and enjoying the fun that came with it. But, unlike the other partners of the brat club members, he didn’t really get too flustered about it. Bing knew this, and Bing also knew what got Google going. 

He stole one of Google’s classic blue shirts, one with the G in the center and everything. The two androids were about the same size, give or take a few inches in certain spots, so the shirt fit him well. Bing also found a pair of tight, very short shorts that clung to his body and even had 

the bottom of his ass sticking out. This duo was a deadly pair when it came to flustering Google. 

“The update is processing as we speak. It’s mainly a firewall advancement.” Google spoke to Dark through the video call he had set up on his laptop. He preferred reporting this way so he didn’t have to worry about finding Dark or having to speak in front of all of the others. Google wasn’t the biggest fan of talking in front of everyone but would do so when needed. 

“Do you have an estimation of how long the update will take? I don’t want our digital protection to be down too long.” Dark’s voice came from the laptop’s speaker. The screen was angled, so the door to the room was just out of view, and Bing knew that was how Google always had his catch-up meetings with Dark. He used that to his advantage and stood at the door, leaning an arm against the frame and grinning as he waited to get seen. 

“The first…layer, to put it in less technical terms, will be active in no more than five minutes. The rest of the layers will slowly add on and take, give or take, less than an hour before everything returns to proper function.” Google explained and turned his head toward the door. He had noticed Bing’s presence earlier but wanted to finish his spiel first. “I-” Google’s voice got caught in his throat, and he felt like his brain short-circuited at the sight of Bing. 

“Report back to me when it’s finished so I can let the others-are you alright?” Dark asked. 

“Um…I-uh-I’m…” Google cleared his throat. Bing only softly giggled and waved, winking at Google and watching the other’s face grow redder with each passing second. 

“Google?” 

“Sorry. There’s a-uh-a distraction at the door. I’ll report back to you when everything finishes.” 

“I’ll be here,” Dark stated before ending the call. 

“Don’t you have to watch each ‘layer’ build on?” Bing asked with almost a sing-song tone. “You can’t do anything else for that whole hour.” 

“Bing.” Google breathed out, gripping the edge of his desk. 

“It’s almost like I timed this or something.” Bing giggled and placed a hand on his hip, tucking his fingers under the shirt and exposing more of his skin. 

“This is part of that brat club, isn’t it?” Google asked.

“A little.” 

“You know what happens to brats, right?” 

“I do. And you have plenty of time to plan it out.” Bing winked and turned around, pulling up his shorts to show off even more of his ass. “I’ll be in the bedroom~” He said over his shoulder before walking away. 

“He is so getting it when I’m free,” Google said to himself.

I came across a vmin clip on insta end of last year and was instantly drawn to this cutie with such a beautiful smile. I knew they were from BTS but that was the limit of my knowledge.

I immediately sent that clip to my friend and asked his name and the rest was history. I spent hours and hours watching videos of jimin singing and dancing. I was surprised by how hard I was crushing on this guy since I thought I left those days behind during my teenage years 😂 I don’t think I was this enamoured with anyone even during that phase 😁 but there is something about jimin that has drawn me in completely.

I started watching videos of Vmin/ yoonmin/ jihope and was seeing this 3rd person frequently appearing in all these interactions jimin had. I asked my friend who he was *cough* JK * cough*

By this time YT started recommending jikook videos and I instantly felt some difference in chemistry in this duo.

Normally I am chill, in the sense, I do feel bad when I see hate against their bond but I rarely interact on social media. I am of the school of thought that if you can’t say anything nice about someone it is better to not say anything at all.

Thank you so much for this ask and for reading! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed the new chapter of You Know Where the City Is! Fictional!Matty and Fictional!Taylor are my favorite bisexual disaster duo and I have been having SO MUCH FUN writing them- especially in that 2014/2015 time period - they were both hella messy 😂 Fictional!George will be making his appearance in the New Year 👀 as per the current outline, it looks like he will be arriving very soon... in Chapter 13 which feels almost too perfect!

In terms of keeping everything organized: I have a note book for each chaptered fic / universe (all of the Infection 'Verse fics are in one note book) and within my notebook I have an overall summary, chapter outlines, as well as random but important plot notes / continuity notes / some character background for that particular fic. Because I am old school these are all physical notebooks I got at Target and write in with a black Sharpie pen.

I also have a Google Sheets document with all of the prompt requests I have in my inbox. If they are from a particular list the spreadsheet links to the post with that list. I also have a little print out calendar where I make a note of what fic was updated on what day / if I posted a prompt fill. Is it very extra? Yes, however I love office supplies and organization so all these little organizational / planning side quests are half the fun for me! Not to say that I don't make mistakes sometimes and get X version of Fictional!Matty confused with Y version of Fictional!Matty. BUT all my little lists seem to help at least keep everyone mostly in the right universe!

S5 Ep 39 Part 2: Baby Pharaoh

My memory is something like tossed coleslaw at the moment with my on-and-off again long covid fatigue, but I’m pretty sure last we left off, Yugi and co were looking for Pharaoh, who as I’ve mentioned several times now, has fallen down a hole and can’t get up.

Alongside the Nile they have stumbled into Mana (man I hope that’s her name, it’s been so long since I’ve done a regular update, if her name is like Arkansas or whatever, I will not know, that’s just where we are. Bro who fact checks and spell check’s this blog was like “I dunno, sounds right? I’m not looking it up.”)

Whatever her name is, Mana is living her best life on this background that is askew just enough to cause me pain.

That horizon is killing me. I don’t recall exactly, but I’m pretty sure the bg was not supposed to be at an angle. Ugh, suffering.

Anyway, this girl is a card as well as a magical person, so unlike all the other NPCs in Egypt, she gets the opportunity to set her eyes on 20th century people and be like “wtf are you assholes wearing?”

Rather than convince Mana that Yugi is the Pharaoh and see where this plot line goes, Joey says, “Isn’t that Pharaohs’ royal purple cloak like right over there? This cloak that probably costs in today’s money like 5 billion dollars because he’s a literal Pharaoh and wears an entire dowry on his ear lobes?” and Mana is like--”Oh shoot. Weird I did not notice that when I was so fixated on the fish.”

And so Mana has decided to join Yugi and Co because she is very much just here for the ride and also any information on how to run into her kind of sort of whatever the hell relationship is between her and Pharaoh. This makes sense to me, honestly, this was how I navigated all of college. You end up at a lot of weird parties doing this, but you’d be surprised how many people will ask you to just join their crew if you happen to be walking the same direction and know one person in common.

Bro came up with that pun and he’s extremely proud of it.

Again, rip the horse from last episode, at some point an alligator must’ve gotten to him (or the fall made him explode into little pieces, don’t worry about it). But we find Pharaoh in this cave, just out of sight of anyone who would actually be able to spot him.

Perhaps he’s doing this to stay out of the heat, but it’s also very likely that he’s just very embarrassed for that huge L he took falling down that hole and would like to just vibe out in a cave for a bit and contemplate his earliest memories.

To go from the man who remembers nothing to remembering yourself as a baby who gets his ass wiped 7 times a day.

After walking down this long pit, we come to take part in some sort of Ancient Egyptian gods ceremony. Which is fascinating, because it’s not too, too often in this show that we reference the Egyptian gods outside of what is in the cards that Marik plays. But these are like the literal gods, not the fancy cards.

I have no idea if this is referencing an actual ceremony we know about or an actual mural that we have in some tomb in Egypt in real life. but I’m gonna guess this is probably not 100% historically accurate.

I have since been informed it is Kul Elna and not Kel Elna but I am not bothered enough to fix the cap.

I don’t even know where that backstory would go, it would have to be between Dartz and when the millennium items were forged out of the millennium stone. Or maybe he’s just a card? I dunno. But that guy jumped out of no where, just a brand new millennium item and now he’s gone.

My brother cannot tell the difference between Tahoma and Papyrus so hopefully it’s clear that Tea talks in Tahoma and Mana in Papyrus fonts. Unfortunately, they...have the same font color because I never initially thought they’d be on the same screen.

At this point, they run into Pharaoh, and Mana pretended like she knew that Pharaoh fell down a hole the whole time and that she didn’t spend half her day fishing.

Bro was like “Can you imagine trying to explain America to Mana?” and it sure was food for thought.

So, that’s all for this episode, in the next we shall find out how many more holes we can throw all our characters down. Which honestly is just Writing 101 when you think about it. As in Writing 101 the class, not 101 holes. Sorry I have a hard time reading and writing with long covid, although I still like to do it, so if parts of this are like incomprehensible, I’ll fix it in post. Like that joke just now. No idea if it made sense but we’re going to print it because I want to move on to the next episode.

Okay, so, I haven’t updated this story in literally a year so I don’t know why I’m so excited to share something about it, but!

I have a rather laborious amount of time into the story mechanics of The Dead Rabbit (which at this point I am doubtful I will ever even finish it. Other than me only one person knows the ending 😂) because it was the first fic for Peaky Blinders that I ever wrote, starting it before I finished the series 😬🥴 and it took me forever to decide what I was going to name this other horse. Tommy, being reincarnated as himself and trying to make things just so to fix his past, has renamed this horse Dangerous just like the previous one had been, but I needed a name that sounded just as interesting.

The name Fearless was actually relevant in two different ways to me at the time, one, I was watching Cowboy Bebop at the time and loved it and thought Fearless and Dangerous sounded good together, so I let it simmer for awhile, but, then I found one of my favorite war history stories was also tied to the name.

Long story short: some marines rescued a horse that they eventually promoted to Sergeant and named her Reckless because of her courageous behaviors on the battlefield, not only transporting ammunition more efficiently and quickly that human soldiers could, but also transporting wounded soldiers.

The Marines were told that they were going to have to leave her overseas in Korea, so of course, being Marines, they smuggled her back to the US on a Navy ship, and then also smuggled her through US customs after a customs officer said she had to be put down.

(The story is way more cool than this but I’m summarizing for everyone’s sake! They even took her to the Marine Corps ball, because she was a marine too. She also only liked human food and loved bacon and eggs.)

Sergeant Reckless then went on to have four foals, one of them being a colt that the Marines named Fearless.

The foal, Fearless, was eventually promoted to be Private Fearless.

I’m retrospect, I should’ve named the other horse Reckless; she was a pretty badass horse, and when the Marines got her settled at Camp Pendleton part of the orders of her residing there were that she was only to live comfortably for the rest of her days and was never to be ridden ever again.

(Fearless and Dauntless were both contenders for the pair as a duo in the story but then it lost the tie to history repeating and I only picked one new name. )

So, yeah, there’s a history lesson for today and a good example of why it takes me so long to write because I dig way too far for some little nugget that’s only going to be noticed once.
