Troy - YOUtopia, San Diego:

Troy came right up to me at Saguaro Man, the Arizona regional burn. He extended his hand, smiled and said, “Hi, I’m Troy.” No hesitation, big smile, a welcoming attitude. We have been fast friends ever since.

That’s how it is with some people. Some people are able to connect quickly with new people. Some people place a high value on friendships.

I asked Troy to be part of this project at the San Diego Regional Burn, YOUtopia. He had a hard time fighting back the tears, he said he doesn’t want his photo to look sad. But he was overwhelmed by emotions when I asked him to consider what he was most grateful for.

Troy: I was thinking about friends and how important they are. For me, they are more than family, so I was thinking how important it is to have good friendships.

Today I'm thankful for... 1. rediscovering Tumblr; 2. the solid one-hour admin-imposed extra break; 3. the green silk shirt I hadn't worn in a year I wore to work today and it got lots of love; 4. an adult student said, "You are a great teacher. My daughter and I like you"; and  5. my courage and consistency in publicizing creative projects despite lukewarm to no response.

Today’s #MondayMaker is @gratefulpeoples !
