Going up to a guide dog user and saying, to their dog, something along the lines of “your mommy doesn’t let me pet you. I know, it’s so unfair,” in a baby voice is first of all counterproductive, because that’s just as distracting for the dog as petting them would be, and second of all, is actually really casually guilt trippy and I don’t like it

FUNDRAISER EVENT Guide Dogs 250 Challenge

From 24th April to 16th May, I'll be taking part in a fundraising campaign for Guide Dogs!

"Every day 250 people in the UK are told they’re losing their sight. It can be devastating. People with a vision impairment are more likely to encounter depression, loneliness, and unemployment. Guide Dogs helps people with sight loss live the life they choose, but we need vital funds to do this. That’s why we need you to be a game changer and take on the 250 Challenge." - Guide Dogs Website

During this time, my Challenge is for streams to be at least 250 minutes long. I also plan to donate an extra £1 for every sub to my channel. And! I've set up a few goals, with incentives to look forward to:

Level 1 Goal £250 : If we hit this, I will sponsor one of the puppies! Level 2 Goal £500 : If we double our 250 goal, I will sponsor two of the puppies!! Level 3 Goal £750 : If we manage to triple our 250 goal, I will sponsor all three puppies!!!

Streaming for 250 minutes (just over 4 hours) doesn't sound like a challenge for most, but for a spoonie like me, who can't regulate their energy levels, it sure can be!

I'll do my best, but in the event I'm unable to meet the 250 minute minimum, we'll have to think of a fun forfeit or something (be gentle).

Regarding the sponsor puppies, the first will be chosen at random, and the second will be via a poll on my fundraiser page.

Heeeeey, so, we're doing a fundraiser this October! 100km dog walk for Guide Dogs UK!

Obviously I'll be on my mobility scooter but my dad will be walking, and more importantly, so will Fuwafuwa!

You probably know my mum lost her sight a few years ago, and while a guide dog didn't suit her personally, I can say that, while I'm not blind, having an assistance dog absolutely changed my life, so Guide Dogs UK in particular is a very important combination of both for us.

The B.C. Human Rights Tribunal has ruled in favour of a visually impaired woman who says a Vancouver café discriminated against her in September 2019. Georgia Pike, a 28-year-old Victoria, B.C. woman, who prefers the term visually impaired to blind, uses a guide dog to navigate. She says she and her father were refused service by the Ooh La La café because they were accompanied at the time by her guide dog, Grainger.  After Pike spent nearly four years fighting her case, the tribunal has found the café's actions to be discriminatory and ordered it to pay her $12,000. Pike is grateful for the outcome and the support she received from her father and the University of Victoria Law Centre but says she wishes the process was simpler.

This is your PSA that just because someone is using a guide handle on their service dog and can see does not mean they are faking being blind.

Many people who are not blind utilize guide tasks, including autistic people who have a hard time with sensory input and need to be guided out of situations or people with fatigue who need help with FMP (which kind of looks like guide).

And also many people who are actually legally blind, still have remaining vision and them using that remaining vision, does not negate the fact that they are still blind.

So maybe don’t assume the worst and make assumptions about people in public they could literally just be using the task that helps there disability the most whether or not that is blindness.

How Guide Dogs Help Visually Impaired People Navigate the World Around Them

I keep expecting to find her but she's gone. No dog toys moved around, no doggo sprawled out in a random place to trip over. She does her little Petey Patrol and comes to check on me in the bathroom (hoping for a treat from the closet in there) but no big ears peeking around the door.

Her birthday was in about a week. I was going to make her some dog ice cream that sounded awful but I think she would have loved it. I thought about making it sooner but didn't get the chance.

I know most of you love your pets, but you will never have a dog that's saved your life multiple times. She was on stage with me when I finally got that worthless degree I worked so hard for. She led me through Washington DC last year and only fussed about the rain a little. We went to Carlsbad Caverns just a few weeks after I came home from the school with her. She's been by my side all day, every day, everywhere I went for 11 years. She guided me to Walgreens one last time just two days ago and poked her snoot over the counter for a treat.

I'm all by myself for real now for the first time in over a decade. No dog snores or grumbles, nobody to talk to about nothing, no one to make me go outside and look at the sky at midnight. I miss her so damn much.

I had no idea, and I'm so sorry to anyone disappointed that I've been unable to sponsor Hazel, Frank, and Walter specifically.

However, please don't be too disheartened, as all the money raised through the sponsorships benefits the cause, regardless of selected pup. And lets face it, every single pup is adorable and well worth a sponsor. 😉

Mollys new gear from yup collars! I got a straight front harness with a curved guide handle! Main color white with pink accents! She also has a pink and white glitter vinyl cape from patience and love to go with this harness! She also got a nice collar from yup with a plate with her name and my number on it! I’m so happy with this new gear I had to share it! I waited two months due to the white leather being out of stock but it was so worth it I’m so happy!
