Chapter 71 of The Stranding has been updated, and unfortunately it will likely be my last update for a little while! I'm going on a wild and crazy roadtrip for two weeks and won't have time to write while I'm gone. Life is a crazy set of circumstances but we're finally get to the crazy stuff I had planned for and wanted <3 <3 <3

"I don't know," she admitted, sounding almost pained by that fact, "I don't claim to have an exhaustive memory of every Altered Item kept in the Oldest House, but I feel like I can almost remember something like this in the reports."

"Or," Jesse interjected, cocking her head to the side as she got a better look at the thing on the Panopticon's pedestal, a fairly nondescript black party hat with HAPPY NEW YEAR! written in gold and silver foil, "someone set it down there earlier and we're all just staring at a party favor."

There was a look shared by the other two, a brief sidelong affair made mostly of eyebrows and quirked lips, and then Emily was off to the races again, asserting, "I don't know, Jesse...I really seem to recall something about - oh, was it time displacement or time dilation? - either way, it was..."

Which, of course, was when Langston came around the corner, joining their group just long enough to offer them a perplexed, "Um, so, New Year's Eve, am I right?" before picking the party hat up and putting it on; all the while, Jesse said nothing but took a victorious sip of her extremely non-prototypical lightly-carbonated alcoholic drink, Polaris fluttering away in the very corner of her vision, shimmering like laughter.
