A very special set of Memorial Beads I recently designed and constructed for someone who lost a beloved family member.

The main beads are made from Juniper seeds that were gathered from the town (and surrounding area) in which the deceased raised their family and spent the last decades of their life. The sterling silver counter beads were crafted in the town where the deceased was born and raised. The bracket beads are turquoise, which had a special place in the heart of the deceased. On one end of the strand of beads, I secured a vintage sterling silver Hamsa talisman with the Hebrew word for peace inscribed upon it, since the deceased was actively involved in her Jewish faith until the end, as well as being a great advocate and emmissry of peace herself. On the other end is secured an Urn Pendant carved from sterling silver, in which the recipient can carry a bit of the deceased’s ashes.

Pieces like this touch me deeply every time I'm involved in crafting them, and I am always so honored to do so.

ok why do your followers use the thing that was where you died as a religious symbol??? like. why not use a bottle of wine pendant or something. or like idk whatever your favourite instrument was. why something that's so closely linked to your death? like I get it to some extent - shows your sacrifice and love and how you died for their sins but. is it not traumatising. wasnt it a symbol of oppression and the worst humanity could offer at your time? why not use the best part of your life instead? who came up with this

People are super focused on My death and its meaning instead of My life.

I think it's because I spent as much of My time as I could encouraging people to treat other people well and not judge them and share your resources freely, and then people see My death as some kind of Get Out of Hell Free card, so then they don't have to do any of the work in their lifetime. Just repent before you die and you're good. And that's not what I want from My followers! Repentance and forgiveness is only part of the process, you have to do better and help those around you to do better, too.

I like the Fish as a symbol. But you could also wear a Lily of the Valley, or a five-pointed star, or a hamsa, or a wine cork, or a bread tag as a symbol to symbolize Me if you wanted.

Or you don't have to use any symbol at all and just let your actions speak for themselves. I would prefer My followers do that.

Johnnie once ate several gelt (the chocolate coin variety) in one night because he kept being given so much and also because he didn’t like having to save it for later. That Hanukkah was one to remember, specifically for the stomachache that followed suit. He counted approximately 13 of them that he ate, but he was sure there were more than that.

Johnnie is adamant about wearing his yarmulke and sometimes even wears a pendant of the Star of David or a hamsa. He finds solidarity in his community and despises the idea of not being able to live his life in the way he wants. It’s rare seeing him without one or the other and he’s stubborn about removing them.

Johnnie’s family first arrived in America in 1894. His parents went over with his grandparents. They all lived in a small apartment in a neighborhood in New York until eventually his parents were able to rent their own. His grandparents only spoke Yiddish and German, his parents some—but very little— English. Johnnie and his sisters know the most English out of the family, but they still know Yiddish and German extremely well and use it often.
