Expectation: This short DVD feature about the artist who designed the backgrounds for Disney's Sleeping Beauty will be a nice, sweet little story about an artist obsessed with detail.

Reality: "Eyvind Earle's physically-abusive father essentially kidnapped him and took him around the world for three years while forcing him to paint a picture every single day until he managed to escape."

It would be cute if the Veilguard companions comment on Rook's appearance changes after visits to the Mirror of Transformation (which i imagine includes height & body changes alongside face, hair, makeup, tattoo, & scarring changes). Something simple & sweet like:

Companion: I feel like something has changed about you recently, Rook. Hmm... using something new to powder your face?

Companion: I like the new thing you're doing with your hair, Rook!

Companion: I feel like you've gotten a little taller, Rook. Are you... Wearing heeled boots? Wearing heel lifts in your boots? Or have you just stopped slouching?

However, we unfortunately can't change Rook's identity after character creation. It would have been awesome if Rook could transition in the middle of the game. Just imagine:

Companion: So, new... Well, a lot of things. How are you feeling, Rook?

Rook: Better. More like myself than I ever have been.

Companion: I'm glad to hear it. (If romanced) I hope you know that this doesn't change anything between us; I will always love you, regardless of how you look or what gender you are.

Edit: It slipped my mind, but you can also choose &, I presume, change Rook's undergarments. Underwear banter please...

Romanced companion: Those lacy little things you had on last night... Are they going to be a permanent addition to your wardrobe or were they a special treat for me? Rook: That depends on how much you liked them. Romanced companion: Oh, quite a lot, my dear.

Companion: I caught you walking around in your long johns the other day... Longies, really? Rook: [chuckles] Trying to get me into something more revealing?

Companion: Rook, if you're gonna sneak around in the middle of the night, could you please put some pants on? Rook: Hey, whats wrong with wearing no pants to bed? Companion: Nothing, if you weren't skipping around the base instead. No one wants to see your ass hanging out of those tiny unmentionables of yours all the time! Romanced companion: Speak for yourself.

Although the "once a Wammy, always a Wammy" saying is true and these orphans cannot escape from the House's surveillance for more than a few years at best even if they change everything about themselves in an attempt to do so, and although they're always ready to go against each other even if they used to be good friends back at the institution; I adore how they can always count on the other orphans to take care of the people dear to them if they ever die. It doesn't matter whether they hated each other or even killed each other, the surviving orphans will make sure the dead orphan's friends and family are never going to want for anything ever again til the day they die of old age.

perhaps the reason why aup ended like *that* is because it was not supposed to have a happy ending in the first place, but sayren didnt have the guts to deal with readers' backlash for when they finally kill off the main character so a half baked happy ending is what we get 😔
