so the ulcer on my left eye got worse While I was visiting my parents and I have got my FOURTH $1000 amniotic patch on it trying to heal it (fuck you covid for setting off underlying health issues and essentially triggering the corneal equivalent of the worst damn shingles flareup EVER except it's herpes simplex keratitis not Zoster) anyway i've got all kinds of treatments the point is i'm home and away from several causes of physical and other forms of stress at my parents' which were making it worse so let's see if we can save my vision in that eye.

Right now what I see with the left eye is basically what the world looks like through totally fogged glass on my right eye, which I discovered by blowing on a glass shower door.

I've been dealing with this flareup since August. And it still HURTS.  The only saving grace is that I'm getting used to operating with just One functional eye.

But the strain of dealing with I pain as well as the world being kind of removed because I can't see very well is making it hard for me to string thoughts together, like Trying to take a test when there is someone continually sniffing and refusing to use a Kleenex in the same room with you. (Some people can concentrate through noise/static; I'm one of those people who really has trouble blocking out distractions.)

I am on the verge of disclosing to my new partner tomorrow. I was doing some reflecting today and I noticed that for the last couple of days, I have been looking for things to push my new partner away with before this talk happens.

I am afraid of two things. The first is that I could get rejected, which would really suck because I do really like him. But the second thing is that I am afraid of him accepting my status. I've really wanted to be a victim throughout this entire process and if he accepts me, I can't be. It would mean that I would have to accept that good things will still happen for me in spite of my status.

It's totally human and normal to want to run and hide. But we have to fight that human urge to get closer to what we want. Let's say that this relationship does work out, we're going to have an extremely strong foundation however, if I run and hide, I would never know what could have happened.

In the eye, immunity means a delicate balance between fighting pathogens and avoiding any excess inflammation, that could impede vision. This is especially critical in the outermost layer, the transparent cornea, which must remain clear but is also the front line for infections. Unlike most tissues, the central cornea was thought to be devoid of resident memory T cells, immune cells that recognise previously-encountered pathogens and can quickly respond to infection. Would you date someone with herpes?

Although I shouldn't have to justify myself, I feel like I need to provide some context because of the negative stigma around herpes. My ex-boyfriend didn't tell me he had herpes until about a month after I moved in with him. At the time, I felt like I didn't have many options and was also deeply in love with him, so I made the foolish decision to stay with him even though he had kept this information from me for over a year. He promised me marriage if I stayed, among other things. Long story short, he was reckless and irresponsible, and now I have herpes too.

I'm sharing this not to deny my own promiscuity, but to show that you can be in a relationship, take precautions, and still contract herpes. So please, don't judge anyone just because you hear the word "herpes."

The truth is, I trusted someone I shouldn't have, and now I have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life.
