I just read chapter VII of “The devil You Know”. The chapter was a roller coster and the story is really heating up. Poor Yue…

Was it truly a mere accident that Sokka’s coffin laid on top of Yue’s and Fy Lee”. He is very suspiciously close to many deaths. Toph was killed soon after she found out he and Suki were implicated in (I think it was Chan’s?) death. Speaking of Suki, it’s quite interesting when she protested how her phone wasn’t working, only for Azula to notice that it suddenly began to work again when it came time for Yue’s video to appear. Yue of course being an idvidyal that Suki has a grudge against. Via Sokka. Speaking of Yue, her POV this chapter was a gut punch. As was Katara’s in the beginning.

Also Jets’s POV drew several points about Ty Lee from his perspective. That she was smarter than she initially appeared. And that she six identical sisters. In appearance and voice.

What if Ty Lee hadn’t died at all. What if merely faked her death (by sacrificing one of her sisters) and engineered the call to Azula. Blaming Zuko for something he hadn’t actually done. From Jet’s PoV we know that Ty Lee’s parents wouldn’t actually notice if one of their daughters disappeared. Which may make it easy for Ty Lee to fake her death and switch with one of her sisters. If indeed she is one of the killers. I could just be reading into something that is’t there after all.

One of the killers expressed heartbreak over Azula. And we know that something happened between her and Ty Lee. Maybe enough to push Ty Lee into being a killer? Their’s also Mai, who may have been acting the fool this whole time. Her anger at Azula is readily apparent. My distrust of the two stems from canon. Though their actions are understandable I’ve got a thing about people betraying their friends. So their deeds at the Boiling Rock still leave a bad tastes in my mouth. Minus saving Zuko/Sokka/Suki’s lives of course.

So I like Suki and Sokka for Ghostface. With Mai coming in as a secondary suspicion. And If my theory about Ty Lee faking her death is right, she immediately jumps to #I suspect

In the end scene, where Katara is perving on Azula. Is Azula blacking out like in the first chapter? In which Zuko is taking of Azula in that moment?

And a message for Azula. “Tell your girlfriend important shit! Your brother being accused (supposedly at least) in being a killer definitely qualifies. Also don’t cheat on her”. That’s a bit fucked up. Unless you blacked out for it. Which makes Zuko’s action monumentally more fucked up. But then, every character in this story is a bit screwed in the head. But then, that’s one (though by no means the only) of the reasons we love all the ATLA main crew (Gaang+Dangerous ladies+Yue).

Also, I’m pretty sure Kiyi is Hakoda’s and Ursa’s bastard child. Does Sokka suspect which married women that Hakoda slept with (Ursa?). He’s been a big brother figure to her thus far, so maybe. Out of all the characters, I’m hoping Kiyi lives. Even more so than Azula or Katara (I know, It me saying that!). Also hopeful she doesn’t end up as one of the killers…

I enjoyed the chapter, and am greatly looking forward to next! I want to see this mystery unraveled!

I seriously LOVE all the theorizing & I feel like I'm interacting less than usual with readers when it comes to this story because I'm always just like -

"love the theories :))))" but also I literally CANNOT respond with anything to theories without giving away if you're close or way off LMAO

But just know. I feel so validated in putting as much thought as I do into this story (trust me it's a lot lol) & I just get SO excited about seeing the different possibilities when I get messages such as this. Just - AHH !! :)

As for Kiyi - I can go ahead & confirm that she is indeed Ursa & Hakoda's child. I don't consider this a spoiler given it is pretty much confirmed in the latest update. More on how much Sokka knows about this very soon!

Been thinking of Hakoda/Kya/Bato throuple, and reasons Sokka and Katara call them dad/mum/bato respectively. Or:

Why Bato doesn't get a parent name

- They weren't a throuple until the kids were children, by then he was very established as Bato

- He was away working a lot when the kids were young so he didn't feel he had the right to ask for a parent name

- Bato was horrified by the idea of being called dad because he was Too Young And Beautiful and by the time he realised he actually would like to be called dad it was too late

- Bato came out as a trans man when the kids were children. To replace calling him Mum the kids picked the new name, and as a variation of dad they chose Bato. When asked what he was going to name himself when transitioning, Bato replied "The children have already named me"

Modern au

After leaving her old family (Ozai) for her new family (Ikem) Ursa changes her name and returns to acting. Only small theatres, low-budget productions, she just loves the craft.

After a few years, when she's getting ready she becomes good friends with one of the new young makeup artists, he's so sweet and charming, and when he says 'youre so beautiful, you remind me of my boyfriend' she just laughs and tells him to enjoy his young love ("I'm 23 Noriko" / "you're like a baby compared to me")

Towards the end of the season, he approaches her with a new job. His boyfriend, friends and sister are opening their own small community theatre in the next city, and would she like to audition for their first show.

His boyfriend is the writer and director, after all. And he'd love for them to meet......

Autistic Toph Masterpost

It’s a long one folks. The @mightyoctopus and I are both autistic, and the other day we were discussing and concluded that Toph is also autistic. Here’s some canon evidence to prove it.

It has been said before that bending is a metaphor for neurodivergence. An innate, often unconscious extension of the person, connected to emotions.

Toph’s Bending

Toph is the best earthbender in the world, and this didn’t happen by chance. She took to bending incredibly naturally. Here’s how it links to her being autistic.

Special interest - Toph knows everything about earthbending, more than most people as she learned from the badgermoles. She is truly an expert, and it’s her favourite thing to talk about, and the topic she knows the most about.

Heightened senses - Many autistic people are more sensitive to sensory inputs than non-autistic people. Toph is incredibly in tune with the world around her, constantly aware of everything through her earthbending. This saves people on multiple occasions: hearing Azula in The Chase, and saving the pregnant lady’s husband in The Serpent’s Pass are two examples

Dear Avatar fandom

Please can we stop refering to Zuko's eyes as 'good' and 'bad' in fics. What he actually has is a 'seeing eye' and a 'blind eye'. There is nothing inherently bad about a blind eye.

Negative language towards disability is ridiculously common in our ableist society. I know this community is often very good at writing disabled characters, and people mean no ill intent with this language, but please consider the words you use and their connotations.

This is not a call out, nor an attack, and it is not targeted at anyone specifically. I am just someone in the disabled community asking you to please think about why you might consider a blind eye to be bad, especially in a fandom with a canon blind character.

2. lol, the 2.5 is some wonky WIP math on my part. zsweek2021 contains 

(1) the three completed parts of the boo chronicles 

(2) the title/summary/tags/notes of a HSM2 AU (the actual WIP, maybe 70% done, is one part of the ‘renaissance indulgence but make it reasonable’ doc)—this was for the “Secretly Dating” prompt of zukka week

(3) the WIP of part four of the boo chronicles, also maybe 70% done

(4) the rough ideas/thought dumps for days 6 and 7 of zukka week, which are also parts five and six of the boo chronicles.

here’s an excerpt from the HSM2 AU!

Sokka’s minding his own business in the kitchen, chugging orange juice straight from the carton (only because he’s finishing the carton right now, thank you), when Katara sprints through the doorway and hip-checks Sokka into the fridge. He chokes and then shrieks, pulp splattering down his front and his socks instantly getting soaked with juice. “What the hell, Katara?” he shouts.

She grins broadly at him, steamrolling right over his irritation. “I’m the best sister in the world.”

“Based on what?”

“I got you a summer job!”

Sokka blinks, the image of the pre-owned motorcycle that’s been sitting in Piandao’s window for two months now shimmering in his mind’s eye. “What? How?”

“I got a call from Lava Springs—I guess they got a copy of my resume, somehow? The woman on the phone told me they have a summer employment program with our school, and when she offered me a job, I told her I knew a few other model students who’d make great staffers.”

Sokka bank-shots the OJ carton into the sink and throws his arms around Katara, who starts screeching like a banshee. “We’re employed!” he yells over her.

“You’re getting pulp in my hair—”

“I’m going to own a fucking motorcycle!”

She starts jabbing an elbow into him, and he only tightens his hug. “Motherfucker—”

“What’s going on here?”

The siblings freeze and turn to Bato, who’s standing in the doorway with an unimpressed, resigned look on his face. His pale blue eyes take in the tangled teenagers, the orange juice splattered on the floor and wall, Katara’s frazzled bush of hair.

“Katara and I got summer jobs,” Sokka says with a nervous smile.

“Sokka was drinking from the carton again.”

“I only do that when I’m going to finish it!”

“It’s still gross on principle—”

Bato sighs, and they both shut up. “Please clean up before your father gets home,” he says. “He just mopped the floors yesterday.”

“We will.”

When Bato leaves again, probably going back to mend skates in the garage, Sokka gives his sister a gentle squeeze and a kiss on the head. “Thank you,” he tells her. “The universe is already turning summer in our favor.”

He spoke too soon, apparently.

The twin old women are droning on and on about staff expectations and rules, sounding eerily similar to horror movie ghouls as they do so, and he leans over to furiously whisper at Katara, “Are you seriously telling me you didn’t know—”

“Of course I didn’t,” she cuts him off. “I would’ve said no to the job if I’d known—”

“You could’ve looked up their website—”

“If only you hadn’t downloaded a virus from that porn site—”

Yue shushes them, taking Katara’s hand as she does so. Katara instantly eases, eyes going soft as she smiles at her girlfriend, and Sokka sinks in his seat, grumbling under his breath.

They hadn’t known Lava Springs Country Club was owned by the uncle of Drama Queen and her hench-brother until they arrived this morning and Azula was immediately peacocking, alternating between smirking at Katara and glaring at the rest of them: Sokka, the other East High first-liners, Teo, and Yue.
