Now here’s one you probably haven’t heard of…

A Chinese animated movie called “Hidden Dragon”.

Most people stumble upon this one by accident, although it seems like it’s slowly getting more attention since Saberspark did a video on the first trailer. And people’s first reactions to this are really fascinating, as they vary from really liking this idea to calling it unoriginal to say the least.

The story takes place in a magical, undersea world where dragons are in charge and humans are their greatest, most feared enemy. Hei is a young, awkward dragon working a stable boy for the guard that he hopes to join someday. Hei accidentally saves and forms an uneasy alliance with a human girl who was chosen as sacrifice to the sea.

So at first glance, this story doesn’t seem like anything new, but there is nothing not wrong with a familiar story, as long as they can add a unique spin to it. And so far the setting and the designs taking inspiration from Chinese mythology look interesting enough. 

The main character, Hei, is voiced by Robbie Daymond, who also voiced Jesse Cosay in “Infinity train” and Peter Parker in “Marvel's Spider-Man” just to name a few.

As a Dragon Nerd, I am curious to see this one. If I ever get the chance, I’d watch it.

Ourania was feeling bored and playful today. She was lounging in her favorite tree where she had built a den with some of her treasures inside, gazing down at anyone passing by. She waited for a good moment to drop down and decided to do so in front of one particular individual passing by.

“Boo!”  she shouted while dropping on all fours a moment before standing up again, “Did I scare you? I suppose I could have popped out in dragon form.”

I fixed a few things

I also literally watched the trailer like 20 times to learn how to draw Hei properly but he's still really really really hard to draw

I also did a lot of research to learn how to draw traditional chinese clothes which helped a lot with another drawing I want to make

I will try to draw him again of course since I already made a lot of drawings that I didn't post and I will probably use those as references

The last of his long inky-dark locks cascade onto the cold floor, joining the growing pile by his feet. Lowering the scissors on the table, Dan Heng examines his new appearance in the mirror. He touches his forehead, running his hand through his hair to find no hint of horns or horns stubbing. The sensation is odd at least, having grown accustomed to them since he woke up in total darkness. The same went for his ears, rounded and not pointed.

Then he runs his hand down to the back of his neck, bare if not a little itchy from his impromptu haircut. Satisfied with the short length, Dan Heng leans back and let it sink in that he looked no different than any other humanoid species on this ship. Out of habit, Dan Heng applied red eyeliner but he pauses as he was about to touch his other eye. Frowning, he stops there and decided this would be his new look. Anything to differentiate himself from the individual the people of the Xianzhou Luofu saw him as.

He harbored no memories of his crime, but it didn't matter to them. It shouldn't matter to Dan Heng either. He is an exile (a sinner), but presently, he is also a free man traveling through the stars.

It still feels like a dream, even if his circumstances are less than ideal.

Cleaning up the mess, Dan Heng bundles his hair up and ties it with a white ribbon; a farewell to the past and a greeting to a new beginning.

Yet Dan Heng journey begins by the deafening sound of the alarms ringing throughout the ship and everything around him turns bright red.

"An intruder...? Is it those monsters?" Dan Heng recalls the ship workers mentioning an "Anti-Matter Legion" being troublesome to deal with. However, there shouldn't be any dangers on the path the ship was taking.

Something is wrong, Dan Heng can feel it in his guts and grabs his spear before leaving the room. The bracer on his wrists is warmer than usual...

Hei the dragon from Hidden Dragon (2023)

It’s been a while since my last Koopus’s Cute Cartoon Animals showcase. This guy comes from an upcoming animated movie from Beijing starring Robbie Daymond (Marvel’s Spiderman (animated), Persona 5, Critical Role) and Dana Snyder called Hidden Dragon about a young, awkward dragon stable boy, above, in the undersea kingdom who forms an uneasy alliance with the sea’s greatest enemy, a human, when she turns up out of nowhere in his midst.

Thus far the movie seems to draw a lot from Kung Fu Panda and Tangled in its influences, though it’s too early to say either way.

He’s an expressive cutie for sure.

He's from a not yet released movie called Hidden Dragon, and what can I say the design pushes so many buttons, with his footwear and feet especially. V.v Not to mention they already had him in bondage in the damn trailer haha, they know what they are doing I swear he radiates crazy ticklish energy >u< I have seen another pic of him already and some others mentioning him and can just hope that he gets his 15 minutes of Furry Fame.
