General

4. What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?

kaine approves of curiosity - asking questions, exploring, gathering information. they also approve of persuasive and deceptive dialogue options, being a little cunty, and being kind to children and animals.

they generally disapprove of blatant aggression, and in their dialogue, if the player mentions their being privileged because of their background or power. they also tend to disapprove of being too honest lol

10. Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game?

i kind of play with the idea of someone showing up sometime in act 3. they ran away from their country almost five years ago, and this isn't exactly a quiet situation they've found themself in. it could be adelaide, their best friend and the commander of the valesian highguard, there to make sure they're okay, and ask them to come home. this is a pivotal moment for them, and the player, in either encouraging them to reconnect with their family and their birthright or to reject it and forge a new path.

Story Specific

1.How does your Tav advise the player character when it comes to the Dream Visitor?

kaine is no stranger to prophetic dreams, and they hold the power of dreams in high regard - they encourage the player to hear the visitor out, to learn as much as they can about them, and embrace the power they offer. what could possibly go wrong?

(conversely, they get very angry after learning the truth of the dream visitor, because they view it as the emperor using them - and that's the thing they hate most.)

6. Will they stay with the Player Character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently?

kaine doesn't really care either way, to be honest. if their approval is low enough and the player breaks up with them for someone else, they might threaten to leave ("for leading me on all this time"), but the only time they'll leave permanently is if the player tells them to. they have a lot to gain from traveling in this group, and they're going to stick it out

Aether Chapter 13

It's a nice that all of the Highguard who aren't on call rushes in to fuss over Ashley a little. A little nod to the fact that these people actually care for each other and aren't just coworkers.

God damn I wish Hannah would just step up and hold Ashley's hand though. It'd be more for her own her own peace of mind than Ashley's wellbeing but it'd probably be a healthier way of channeling her feelings than glaring at Maggie.

Lowkey obsessed with Varsha's assertion that Element has been forgetting to be Elisa more and more often lately. Is this a slide she's been on since she went on her quest to gain super powers, or has she been going through some shit that makes her want to step back from being herself for a while and stay nestled in the relatively black and white "help innocents punch badguys" life of being Element? We don't know, we might not find out in this book, Elisa has her own complex life going on and full of her own issues and we're here to follow Maggie, it's awesome. It makes the world feel richer.

Speaking of things Varsha has said. Every time she talks about how some people don't really get a choice in receiving powers I get the impression she kinda wishes her meta-gene had never activated. I don't think she wishes herself or all the people she saved dead, but certainly that the event had never happened in the first place.

But on to date night.

Because as much as it does feel like Varsha is being nice and helping give Maggie some space from The Shiro and everything it stands for, it also feels very much like these two are going out on a date. Of course it doesn't really count until they actually verbalise the fact that they are on the same page on that fact but like... The hand holding. The clothes sharing. The flirty power showing off. They are on a date in all but name.

I love the idea of Cape Town functioning similarly to a gay bar but for metas and non-humans. I can't wait for them to go inside. I'm curious if the first visit is going to be something peaceful and maybe an advance in Maggie and Varsha's relationship, or if they're gonna go in there and then disaster is gonna hit. With the just in case precautions Varsha put in place by having Maggie memorise how to make a hero in training outfit and mask, it could go either way. You know she's gonna use it eventually, its just a question of how soon.

For Good: Is there anyone in your OC's life who had an undeniable positive impact on who they are as a person? How did knowing this person improve your OC's life?

Kaine's closest (and only) friend growing up was a boy named Adelaide Glass. Adelaide trained and grew up to be the Dux Nomine - the Commander in Name - of the imperial Highguard, and Kaine's personal guard (and confidante).

He's Kaine's link to the outside world. He's always there for them, and he supports them implicitly - and it's vital that Kaine had that from somewhere. Outside of Adelaide, Kaine only knew their tutors and their parents, so Adelaide was a bit of an anchor for them.

For Bad: Is there anyone who had an undeniable negative impact on your OC’s life? How did your OC deal with that change? Have they been able to move on?

I don't know the details in the bg3 version of Kaine's story, but there is a member of the imperial concilium, the Emeritus Marin Zellik, who orchestrated pretty much every bad thing that ever happened to them. He was not close with Kaine, and it was not out of malice, but he was the main person who used Kaine's shackled power for his own gain, and it wasn't until he was defeated and Valais was returned to the material plane that Kaine was truly free of him.

It also wasn't until it was far too late that Kaine even knew about the Emeritus' involvement in the Everything - their magic's instability, the ritual that imprisoned them, the source of their dreams, all of it. They still haven't really processed it, I think.
