What is a story you'd love to tell but you've never gotten the opportunity?
I had to think a lot about this. I’d love to tell a happy story, because those are the ones I care about the most, but never get to tell because all of the bad stuff is more exciting. Also this is kinda long sry.
I grew up in St Louis (I don’t live there anymore though) and every year there they have this hot air balloon festival. It’s the most magical thing I’ve ever seen. All of the contestants in this race light their fires to blow up their balloons the night before and everyone gets to go see. It’s early fall in St Louis, so it’s still kinda warm at night, but then you walk into the field and the temperature just changes and you’re surrounded by these huge glowing balloons. Also, every year my mom, dad, and I (this was when my brother was a baby) each pick our favorite balloon. One of my favorite memories was this one year when I was pretty little (kindergarten? first grade?) and there was this balloon with a bunny head on the side. Now I loved bunnies, so naturally when I saw this balloon I got really excited and started jumping up and down and told my dad that it was my favorite - no other balloon could possibly be better.
Well the guy whose balloon it was saw and thought this tiny red-haired girl who loved his balloon was adorable, and he offered to let me climb in the basket. Now idk if you’ve ever been in a hot air balloon, but the fires going above your head and it’s kinda the same feeling that you get in a blanket fort as a kid - like you’re on a different planet and nothing could possibly harm you. This guy also explained to me how the balloon worked, and I got to pull the cord to turn the fire on and off (you can turn it off for a minute when it’s blown up without it collapsing). It’s one of my few memories of when I was really little, and I mostly just remember how amazing it felt. And that’s the night I learned about hot air balloons. Also shoutout to the guy with the bunny balloon. Ik he’s probably not going to read this but you’re awesome tysm.

Fotos tomadas durante el amanecer; en Teotihuacan México, mientras volamos en globo aerostático! Una experiencia inigualable!

4 & 5) top right are a yellow dog with white/grey markings and hidden halfway behind the dog is a yellow balloon with some kind of advertising
6) to the left of the dog and yellow ballon is a black ballon with brighter colors “dripping” down in streaks
7) a balloon with green on top and bottom with white in the middle and a red dragon (?) in the white part

We made a trip to Albuquerque to see the eclipse and it happens that the balloon festival was around the same time, so we went for that too. It’s an amazing spectacle and worth it if you’re in the area (I’d even make a trip for it, but the local we talked to said we had the benefit of a light crowd, possibly because lots of people planned to attend on the day of the eclipse).
@becausegoodheroesdeservekidneys I appreciate everything I’ve learned from you and I don’t think I would’ve noticed this balloon without your influence. Thank you!
