Stu!! I love seeing ppl love him. Would I be able to request some roleswap ish au, where reader is a slasher, and stu is the "final girl". He gets caught ofc, and reader unmasks, smut ensues (maybe stu had a crush or smth, maybe dubcon if u accept it).
Unrelated: Loved seeing Matthew lillard as william Afton, he did so good.
Ruined Man - Stu Macher X M!Reader
Summary: Stu Macher was a classic rich boy; arrogant, eccentric, and an asshole. He was known for playing cruel pranks on others, and earlier in the weak, he pranked Sidney by scaring her as the infamous Ghostface Killer. Maybe, just maybe, he deserved a taste of his own medicine. Trick or treat, right?
Warnings: NSFW, non-fatal violence, weapons.
Word Count: 2K
A/N: I don't write anything with SA, CNC, or dub-con; Stu plainly consents to the activities described. He has implied feelings for the Reader, and other implied activities as well... but I'll let you discover that part.

Crickets chirped in the grass, the crescent moon high in the sky. Finally, the noise from the Macher’s Halloween party had died down, and most people had left already, causing a blanket of peace to float down on the street. Any stragglers were drunkenly slumped against the curb, blacked out or calling for a sober ride. Your mask stuck out from the shadows, exaggerated and white, as you watched the property slowly become empty. Well, empty except for the host, of course. Stu Macher.
You could see him through one of the many windows, lounging on the first floor’s living room couch, still moving. Your fingers fumbled against the phone’s dial– god, how do killers run in this shit– pulling the black fabric further up your arm to position the voice changer closer to your mouth. Now, you patiently waited for the other man to pick up, seeing him jolt out of his position. Stu rubbed his eyes, and stumbled to the kitchen.
“Yo?”
Your lips curled into a nasty sneer, “Do you like scary movies, Stu?”
“Uh, yeah?”
“What’s your favorite?”
“Don’t make me choose, you know I’ve watched too many good ones!”
Huh? There was no way he knew your identity already. You’ll give him credit, he’s smart, but most definitely not that smart. Stu always visits the rental store Randy works at, and he always rented horror movies with Sidney’s boyfriend, Billy Loomis; that much you knew. He could not have seen you through the window before he ran into the kitchen, and even if he managed to, your mask was still securely strapped on.
“You still there? I haven’t dropped off Hellraiser yet, you could've just asked if you wanna watch it again.”
You hung up, breath quickening. Stu wasn’t scared, even though you were using the same voice changer as the loose, prank-calling murderer running around the streets of Woodsboro. You dumped the phone on the ground, hidden behind a bush. If he wasn’t scared by a little sound-a-like, that was fine, you came prepared. Stu’s garage door had been left open, and you jogged over. Frankly, it didn’t matter how much the rich boy had it coming, you were never doing this again. The costume’s long fringes caught on your feet, almost causing you to trip as you avoided the windows; less silent than you had hoped. Your shoes shuffled against the concrete, and you jiggled the handle of the only door, praying it would open. It creaked as you slipped inside, your shoes surely creasing when you tiptoed into the living room. From behind the couch, you could see that Stu was still in his kitchen, but he was looking around.
He grinned, cupping his hands around his mouth, “Nobody else’s here, Billy. You don’t gotta sneak into my house, you know that!”
Sighing, you watch him leave the room to wander about the hallways, stopping by the door you had snuck through– and forgot to close. He squinted, looking at the mistake, and back at the living room. Your cheeks burned, adrenaline starting to pump in your veins as he took a few steps closer.
“C’mon, you wanna have a movie marathon? It’s kinda late for that, but whatever. I have plenty of snacks left from the party, and a whole lot more puke!”
Stu turned away at the last second, choosing instead to sprint down into the bathroom. You could hear a muffled, “Gotcha… nope,” over rustling cloth as you crawled on your hands and knees into the kitchen. The freezing tile shocked any distraction from your system, and you stood up, settling into the darkest part of the kitchen. One of your hands held a dull knife, while the other held the little voice changer machine. However, your position left you without visuals on your victim. You were tempted to pull down your hood, but that would be too reckless, especially since he seemed to think you were his dearest friend. Oh, man, he didn’t know what was coming.
“Y’know I love pranks, man, but time’s up,” He probed, leaning on the marbled island, just out of reach.
Stu visibly flinched as he turned around and found you staring at him, the mask’s empty eyes giving nothing away. It took him but a second to recover, yet, and a smile accompanied his wild eyes, “Billy!”
You tilted your head, slowly raising your left hand, “Incorrect.”
He didn’t have time to respond; you lunged. You gripped his collar in a fist and slammed him into the countertop– he winced. Stu tried pushing you back, but it was in vain, your knife already threatening to pierce his throat.
Your full weight was on the man, and he raised his hands in defeat. Stu’s chest rose and fell in hefty patterns; you snickered at his obedience. His head slumped back as you released his shirt, in favor of wrenching your mask off to face him.
“Surprise, Macher.”
Stu chuckled, chewing on his bottom lip, “Didn’t know you were in on it too.”
“In on what– aren’t you scared?” You growled, pressing the knife into the flesh of his neck, but not enough to draw blood.
“Dunno,” his back arched, causing a drop of blood to drip down his shirt, “I think you could’ve done better!”
You flipped him over, slicing a fringe off of your costume to tie his hands with. Your hips were in between his thighs, leaving him trapped, and the robe itself fell on the floor beside its mask. Stu giggled, hoisting up his torso with his elbows.
“It’s payback; you could use some.”
He winced as you pulled his hair, “Hngh, it was Billy’s idea.”
“Don’t act innocent.”
“And what’re you gonna do about it, tough guy?”
You rasped, moving to step back, “Nothing you don’t want; I think the prank’s done enough.”
Stu seemed to freeze, albeit briefly, but he wrapped his ankles around your hips– preventing you from running. Your hands brushed against them, tense, as his shoulders shook.
“I wanna.” A smile laced his tone.
“You sure?”
“I’m pose-itive,” he joked, “get it?”
You wrenched his mouth open, pressing down on his tongue with your thumb, “Shut it.”
He nodded, trying his best to close his lips around your finger. Your other hand trailed down his side, taking its sweet time, before landing on his waist. Saliva still connected your fingers to his mouth as you removed them, all in favor of lifting his hips. Underneath, you unzipped his jeans, taking extra care to avoid giving any friction. When you stepped back to slide them off of Stu, he whined, his hips still chasing your touch. His jeans were thrown aside, and you slid back in your place. You knew he could feel your breath on his neck.
Your crotch ground against his ass, a shiver spreading across his spine. Stu was audibly panting; his head was hanging low and he pushed his hips to meet your thrusts. You hummed, choosing to drag the knife in soft strokes down his back, the cool metal only just piercing his skin. Red oozed in thick droplets out of the wounds, some getting big enough to trickle down his back. The pain seemed to follow it down, as Stu made quite the pathetic noise.
“We’ve barely even gotten started, Macher, and you’re this desperate already?” You teased.
“Mm, show me what ‘cha got!”
You chuckle and suck a bruise onto the back of his neck. From that position, you could hear a groan rumble in his throat, but it wasn’t strong enough to escape. Hm, you could change that. You sunk the edge of your teeth into a different spot, holding on for a second before soothing the bite with your tongue. If the bruise didn’t make what happened obvious, well, this would. Stu would just have to deal with it. Though, you doubt he’d mind.
The knife clattered onto the marble counter after you dropped it, Stu’s thighs twitching, “Where’s the lube?”
Stu didn’t answer, but only whined.
“Use your words, pretty boy.”
His voice shook, trying to form words past used lips, “Bathroom.”
“Louder, I didn’t hear you the first time.”
Stu wiggled against your weight, “C’mon, man– f-fuck, it’s in the bathroom, please!”
You tutted, a cruel grin on your face, “Now, that wasn’t so hard, was it?”
You didn’t need directions, and as soon as you were out of his view, you practically ran there. Hell, you weren’t gonna miss out on this chance, were you? Stu, the eccentric boy that played downright evil pranks on anybody that breathed around him, reduced to a perverted degenerate. Perhaps he was already like that, and you wouldn’t be surprised.
The lube was in a small, portable bottle that was half empty when you found it. Back in the kitchen, you poured the majority of what was left in your palm and fingers. Using just two, for the moment, you spread it over his hole; a finger may have dipped in every once and a while, in the process.
“I wanna, I wanna do it already,” Stu shuddered, his fidgeting acting up again.
A finger eased its way inside, a little too easily, much to your surprise, “Not yet.”
“I really wanna.” Another, just as simply.
“That’s too bad;” you mused, “have you been fingering yourself?”
He bit down on his bottom lip, the taste of iron filling his mouth, “Uhuh, uhuh.”
“To what?”
“Y-you, and me.”
You spread the final bit over your dick, before pressing your hand into the sides of his neck, “You little pervert. Bet you loved getting a glimpse of me in the locker room, yeah?”
“Yeah, yes, yes– oh, shit.” Stu’s little tangent was interrupted by you slamming inside; the sting melted in with pleasure as you brushed his prostate.
Only for a moment did you stop to let him adjust, before pulling out and thrusting again. You found a rhythm, and the counter rubbed against his cock as you continued, smearing precum over the wood. His hands, still bound, scrabbled for anything to hold onto, but in vain. His nails just slid off of the smooth stone, his drool making it even slippier. Stu squeezed his eyes shut, feeling a knot grow in his gut.
He clenched around you, causing you to grunt, “‘M gonna cum, please let me cum, please, please… ah!”
“We’re not done yet,” you hissed, firmly slapping his thigh.
“I can’t hold it, man, I really can’t,” he sobbed out, eyelashes wet from unreleased tears.
A sharp pain on his shoulder burned through any restraint the guy had, the knot unraveling as quickly as it had formed. Stu thrashed, the fringe snapping, and his vision whited out. His brain was all fuzzy; the only thing he could focus on was gripping the edge of the counter. Stu’s face was smushed against the counter, crimson mixing with the white surface. He shivered, eyes heavy, feeling a little floaty when a thick liquid dripped down his thighs. You pulled out of him, rubbing his waist as you did so.
“Good job, Macher. That was one hell of a show you put on, ” you sighed.
“Hhn.”
His body was limp as you turned him over, using the oven towel to start to clean him up, “How’re you feeling?”
Stu finally opened his eyes, using all of his strength to grin up at you, “Dude… that was like, awesome.”
“Pfft, you sound out of it.”
“Eh, what makes you say that? I want a big glass of water!”
You cackled, leaving his side to shuffle through a cabinet full of fancy cups, finally choosing a sturdy looking mug. He grabbed it as soon as it was in arms reach, taking huge gulps from it, like he had been starved. Or, more so dying of thirst.
When he finished, you softly said, “Do you need help getting into bed?”
Stu shrugged, so you took that as a yes. You heaved him over your shoulder, supporting him up the stairs as he giggled the whole way. As you tucked him in, you swore you could hear something from down in the kitchen.
A phone’s ring.

🎃 ROTTMNT Halloween Headcanons 🎃
Horror Movies
Summary: The Hamato siblings & horror movies
Headcanons for: Raph, Donnie, Leo, Mikey, & April
Halloween Headcanons - Haunted House Edition
Halloween Headcanons - Haunted House (x Reader ver.)
Tumblr media
i added a few horror movie references here and there (betcha can't name 'em all!)
Raph:
Tumblr media
Favorite genre: Zombie horror
Least favorite genre: Gore/Torture
isn't too fond of horror movies; would rather watch action movies
he's convinced that 'based on a true story' movies are 100% real
easily jumpscared but tries to laugh it off every time
leo will tease him about his fear stink tho
believes twilight technically counts as horror
"it's a movie about vampires and high school! how'zat not scary?"
might watch horror movies alone if he's surrounded by plushies and his blanket
won't sleep all night tho
leaves the light on after a horror marathon "just in case"
Donnie:
Tumblr media
Favorite genre: Psychological when done right; Time-loop horror
Least favorite genre: Found footage
isn't too bothered by horror movies
but plot holes will frustrate him to no end
and he WILL make his brothers listen to him rant about it afterwards
"SCOFF! he was OBVIOUSLY a ghost, literally no one else noticed him or talked to him!"
prefers j-horror (subbed even tho he understands japanese)
he doesn't have a favorite movie but he does like the japanese film 'horrors of malformed men' (江戸川乱歩全集恐怖奇形人間)
considers found footage horror movies inferior and 'lazy'
spends most of the movie criticizing the characters and making fun of the villain
was terrified of pennywise as a kid (dvd rental mix-up that went unnoticed by papa splinter)
for the longest time, he thought pennywise lived in their sewers
Leo:
Tumblr media
Favorite genre: Slasher movies; Parody horror
Least favorite genre: Classic
he loves horror movies and binges them for halloween
joins in on donnie's commentary, which mildly annoys mikey and raph
most of leo's commentary is just making fun of his brothers
"oh hey, don bon! i had no idea you were on tv... congrats on the blob monster role~!"
finds silent horror movies to be incredibly booooring
enjoys campy 80s horror (evil dead 2, gremlins, creepshow, ect)
unironically considers killer klowns from outer space a masterpiece
is banned from picking movies bc of this
might get spooked from time to time
not that he'll admit it
nothing can shake this ninja warrior, nuh uh no way
Mikey:
Tumblr media
Favorite genre: Paranormal/Ghost movies
Least favorite genre: Psychological
considers himself a "horror expert" and owns all the classics
likes to play "who would survive this plot" with his brothers during the movie
according to him, leo's usually the most likely to die first
has a plan for every possible zombie apocalypse scenario (that he totally didn't get from a bunch of zombie movies)
"i'm not saying that he *should*, but donnie could totally build a giant prison maze for ghosts. it'll be just like the movie!"
will occasionally watch scary movies alone in the dark
overestimates his fearlessness every time-
loves a good ghost movie but he's a bit of a scaredy cat
might need a few cutesy romance movies afterwards to feel better
April:
Tumblr media
Favorite genre: Found footage
Least favorite genre: Slasher/Killer horror
loves a good horror movie binge and will jump on any chance to watch them with her brothers
always ready with halloween themed snacks and candies
is also a self-proclaimed "horror expert"
she knows a lot more than mikey tho
can tell you about the directors, the history of horror movies, and the stories the movies are based on with complete detail
"movie night at my place? i've got just the thing to scare y'all out of your shells~"
rec is probably one of her top 5 favorite movies
likes the idea of creating her own found footage horror movie
mikey, leo, and splinter are all on board to be in her movie
donnie and raph? not so much

Accidental Roommates; where initial hostility turns into romance (with dialogue)
1. "I can't believe we both signed for this place; there's not enough room for both of us!"
"You take the morning bathroom slot, and I'll cook dinner, deal?"
(After some time) "You know, your cooking has become the highlight of my day."
"And sharing these small moments has somehow made this cramped space feel like home."
2. "This is ridiculous, they can't just move someone else into my temporary space!"
"Look, neither of us is happy about this, but let's make the best of it."
(After some time) "Having dinner together every night wasn't what I planned, but I'm glad it happened."
"Yeah, it’s funny how these cramped quarters turned out to be the best part of my day."
3. "You weren't supposed to be here; someone messed up the sublet!"
"Well, I'm here now, so let's figure something out."
(After some time) "Sharing this space made me realize how much I enjoy your company."
"And I've started looking forward to our evening chats more than anything."
4. "Sharing this vacation rental is not what I had in mind for my getaway."
"Neither did I, but since we're stuck, we might as well explore together."
(After some time) "These shared sunsets have become the moments I cherish the most."
"Agreed, and somehow, laughter with you feels like the highlight of my vacation."
5. "We are too different; this dorm room isn't big enough for the both of us!"
"Just keep your music down, and I'll use my headphones at night."
(After some time) "Our late-night talks have become something I can’t do without."
"Yeah, who knew we’d end up liking the same weird snacks and midnight movie marathons?"
6. "I was supposed to have this Airbnb to myself. This is a mess."
"It's not ideal for me either, but let's make the most of our trip."
(After some time) "I didn’t expect walking through the city with you to feel this right."
"Every meal and every laugh with you has turned what started as a mishap into a memorable adventure."
7. "I came here to work alone, not to share my creative space with a stranger!"
"Well, we're stuck together, so let's respect each other's process."
(After some time) "Your passion for art has not only inspired me but has drawn me closer to you."
"The way we blend our creativity, it’s like our arts were meant to mingle."
8. "I can't deal with this right now; everything is too cramped and stressful!"
"We need to keep our heads and work together to get through this."
(After some time) "In this small space, your strength has become my comfort."
"And your resilience has shown me there's beauty even in tough times."
9. "I'm supposed to be taking care of this place alone, not with a stranger!"
"Well, since we're both here, we might as well help each other out."
(After some time) "Caring for this house together made me see all the little things I love about you."
"It's strange how sharing duties here made me realize how much I need you in my life."
10. "Sharing a cabin was definitely not on the agenda for this retreat."
"Let's just try to stay out of each other's way and get through the weekend."
(After some time) "Laughing with you during those team activities, I realized how much I enjoy your company."
"Our shared space became less about convenience and more about not wanting the weekend to end."

Movie Night
Tumblr media
Just in time for Halloween - Here's to all of my fellow horror watching, Carmy lovers out there!
pairing: carmy berzatto X reader
summary: Even though Carmy isn't a fan of the genre, he braves watching a horror movie just for you. (mentions/possible spoilers for The Rental, because how could I pass up the opportunity to make Carmy & reader watch the actual horror movie JAW starred in?)
word count: 1.2k
“Never let it be said that I don’t do anything for you,” Carmy mumbles under his breath as you settle into the couch together.
“Don’t be so dramatic, it’s going to be fine,” you tell him as you open up Netflix, scrolling to the movie you had queued up. “It’s just a scary movie.”
Horror had been your favorite genre for as long as you could remember - ever since you watched your first horror movie as a teenager. This year, you had challenged yourself to watch a scary movie every day in October leading up to Halloween. You had been having a great time with the challenge - enjoying old favorites, new releases, and some movies that had been on your watch list for ages. Carmy, on the other hand, was perplexed by your ongoing marathon.
“I just don’t get it,” he had said to you a few nights ago when he came home to find you sitting in complete darkness, curled up underneath a soft fleece blanket while watching The Ring.
He listened patiently as you regaled him with an explanation about the catharsis of experiencing fear from the comfort and safety of your own living room and rattled off theories about Horror being an excellent vehicle to understand societal anxieties of the era.
As much as he appreciated your love for the genre and the surprising amount of thought that went into your favorite slashers and supernatural chillers, Carmy couldn't quite relate to your enthusiasm. He recalled being young — far, far too young — when Mikey had shown him The Blair Witch project and it terrified him for weeks afterward. Needless to say, the nightmares that plagued him as a child following the experience put him off the genre as a whole.
Somehow, through no shortage of sweet talking, you’d managed to convince him to watch a movie with you tonight. You’d prattled off several movie titles (many of which Carmy shot down for being “too Catholic” for his liking) before eventually deciding on a horror/thriller from a few years ago about two couples on vacation at a scenic, oceanside Airbnb who gradually come to realize they’re being watched by a killer.
Popcorn bowl in hand, you press play on the movie, tucking yourself under Carmy’s arm as the opening scene plays.
“You look a little bit like him, you know,” you tell him, several minutes into the movie.
He scoffs. “Who? The guy whose girlfriend is clearly sleeping with his brother? I don’t see it.”
“Are you kidding me? Look at him!” You point to the screen and back to Carmy. “He’s got the same strong nose and dreamy blue eyes. If you cut your hair, you’d be twins.”
"Dreamy blue eyes?" He sounds skeptical of you, pursing his lips for a moment before he relents.
“Ok, maybe we look a little alike. We’ll see how I feel about that at the end of the movie though.”
Some 50 minutes later, a dog is missing, there’s a man dead in a bathtub, and the four main characters are decidedly having a much worse weekend than they had bargained for. Your mind is racing as you try to piece together the mystery of the killer’s identity. You feel your pulse quicken just a little as one of the characters suddenly hears the sound of the shower running in a supposedly empty house and Carmy’s arm tightens around your shoulder almost imperceptibly.
“Scared?”
“Nah, I’m good,” he stammers, looking just a little dazed.
“Very convincing,” you chide, interlocking your fingers with his as the chilling scene unfolds onscreen.
The simmering sense of dread trickles through your veins as the story gradually builds to a climax. Despite the plot being a bit of a slow burn, the image of the masked killer lurking though shadows and and sprinting through the fog has you on the edge of your seat. Carmy’s grip on your hand tightens with each passing scene and you have to remind him not to crush your hand within his own.
When at last the credits start to roll, he lets out a deep breath and drops your hand, wiping his sweaty palms on his thighs.
“So what did you think?” You ask, turning to him expectantly. “Did you love it?”
“Nope.” He shakes his head at you swiftly, although you don’t miss the fond smile on his face. “Do you wanna go ahead and turn the lights on?”
You stand, laughing a little under your breath as you cross to the far side of the room and snap on the lights.
“Oh so you don’t wanna sit in the dark and plan a remote, oceanside weekend getaway?”
“It’s not on my list, no.” He presses a kiss to your cheek as you drop back down onto the couch beside him. “So, horror buff, what did you think of the movie?”
You take a beat to gather your thoughts, fiddling with the frayed edge of throw blanket you’d pulled over your lap. “It was alright, I suppose. The plot was a bit thin, but that killer was seriously creepy.”
Carmy nods in silent agreement and you reach out to him, twisting an errant curl around one finger before resting your hand on his jaw, drawing his bright blue eyes to meet yours.
“It means a lot to me that you did this by the way. I know you don’t really like or understand horror movies, but I really appreciate that you still watched one with me tonight.”
A faint tint of pink rises in Carmy’s cheeks and you recognize the way he sometimes balks at such outright expressions of your affection. Carmy’s love was a warm meal after a long day at work; it was carving out time for unglamorous dates and nights in at your apartment; it was tight embraces and whispered confessions when he was at his most vulnerable. It was a kind of love that was often shown and acted upon, but much more rarely verbalized.
“I love you, Carmy.”
He smiles briefly and turns his head to press a kiss into the center of your open palm. “Even though I’m afraid of scary movies?”
“Especially because you’re afraid of scary movies.”
“Good, because I love you too – scary movies and all.”
Your heart feels full and your skin feels warm as you stifle a yawn and check the time on your phone, only to see that it had gotten later than you realized.
“Oh damn, we should probably get ready for bed.”
You reach for the remote, intending to turn off the TV, but Carmy grabs it first, turning the device over in his hand as he looks at you sheepishly.
“You cool with watching a cooking show first? As a, uh, palette cleanser I guess.”
“Of course,” you chirp, settling back into the couch, draping an arm his middle. “Show me the spine tingling terrors of Iron Chef America.”

Movie Night {Daniel x Reader}
approx. 570 words
Pairing: Daniel from Love Actually x reader
Summary: You, Daniel, and Sam have a quiet dinner in that turns into a movie night marathon.
Warnings: brief mention of grief, fluff, non-gender specific reader
Tumblr media
You and Daniel had been dating for a couple of months now and were increasingly spending evenings over at his place to have family-esque dinners. Especially as you enter the Christmas season, quality time feels even more important to share with loved ones.
It has been almost a year since he lost his wife, Sam’s darling mum, but he was still nervous about opening up his life and Sam’s to the prospect of new love and companionship.
As you set the table and dish out a hearty serving of supper to the hungry boys you begin the conversation by asking about Sam’s day at school. He is reserved in his answers, only lighting up when he shares that his class got to watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas in their free period.
“Is that your favorite movie?” you asked, enjoying the conversation you are having with Sam as he seems to be coming out of his shell with you.
“For Christmas, maybe. My true favorite is Titanic. We watch it all the time,” Sam said, looking proudly at Daniel.
“He’s right. At the very least, once a month,” responded Daniel. They both display toothy grins at you. You had no idea that behind that tough exterior Daniel loved to watch the gushy love story Titanic with his son. How touching.
“Do you think I’d like it? I’ve never gotten around to seeing it,” you said nonchalantly as dinner continued.
In unison the boys dropped their forks to their plates in astonishment.
“You must be joking,” Sam said. “How could you have not seen the masterpiece that is Titanic?”
“I don’t know, I just haven’t thought of it I suppose” you said honestly.
Sam’s astonishment quickly changed as you saw a light flash over his eyes.
“Let’s rent it tonight!” Sam said as he looked over to Daniel, pleading for another reason to watch his favorite movie. “She’s never seen it!”
Daniel already had his mind made up before Sam could go any further. He nodded with a smile tugging at his lips.
And with that, you began clearing the table while Daniel got on his coat to head to the video rental shop downtown. Before he was out the door, Sam gave him a slip of paper with other film names, just in case they were available.
“This way you only have to make one trip,” Sam said to Daniel. Cheeky boy.
“I’ll be back soon,” Daniel shouted through the hall to you as a goodbye.
Sam helped you collect all of the pillows and blankets in the house and bring them to the living room. Three designated spots were formed on the couch for the perfect viewing experience.
“And lastly, the popcorn,” you said. Sam helped you get the kernels from the pantry as you ignited the stove top. As if on cue Daniel returns with a stack of movies and a light dusting of snow on his head and shoulders.
All three of you make your way into the warmth of the living room and slide in the DVD. As the movie begins and the theme music fills the small room, Daniel lets out a sigh of content.
Sam was glued to the television screen, fixated on the love story he aspires to live with his American girl, Joanna. On the other side of the couch, you and Daniel were cuddling, happy to be out of the harsh cold outside and surrounded by family.

Kyoto part 1: Sushi, coffee, International Manga Museum, Imperial Palace Grounds
Once we arrived in Kyoto, Charles and I checked into our Airbnb for the duration of our trip there. Since we had decided to stay an extra day in Osaka, we had a limited amount of time in Kyoto, but we had a pretty good idea of the things we most wanted to see/do so that helped keep us on task.
The Airbnb we stayed in was an apartment in a guest house, and it was so gorgeous, even better than it looked in photos! And it was pretty inexpensive as well. We were technically in Kamigyo ward, which is a little to the west of Kyoto Imperial Palace, and northwest of Nishiki Market and the International Manga Museum, which were our main goals for our stay.

We were both pretty hungry by this point, so we checked Google maps and realized we were close to a sushi restaurant that was pretty highly rated and also still open, so we walked there. Sure enough, it was super delicious! The place was called Daigen, and it was super fantastic! I think this was actually the only sushi we had the entire trip, but it was extremely extremely good. Even though they didn't really speak any English the staff was super friendly, and the Itamae (head sushi chef) was very very funny. We briefly spoke with some other guests there, including a Japanese-Canadian family that was super into running marathons (we later noticed flyers around for a Kyoto marathon and wondered if that was what brought them into town haha). Everyone was very kind and the chef gave everyone beer when we told him it was our honeymoon and extra shochu when I showed interest.

The Itamae also took a photo with us at Daigen, super super sweet people.

The next day was our only full day in Kyoto. We slept in a little bit just to catch up on our rest, and set out to Cafe Perch for breakfast. We actually ate here on our first visit to Japan, and it left a deep impresson on us -- it was the first time we ever had like, Japanese bread? And I don't mean pan, like, small rolls of bread or buns, but like, how they do sliced bread? It's quite different from how we have it, super fluffy and THICK sliced! The coffee at this place was super amazing. They had signs EVERYWHERE that said not to take photos so we didn't, but here's a Japanese blog post we found from an Instagrammer who clearly did it anyway. Maybe it can help give a general idea of the vibe; it had a similar Showa era old school feel to Royal Cafe in Asakusa, Tokyo, that we visited earlier, but with a more informal vibe. Jazz music was playing, there were lots of live plants, and tons of art and vintage stuff to look at lining the walls.
After leaving Perch, we set out to rent bicycles to get around for the day. Japan in general supports a lot of pedestrian and bike traffic (one of the first things that really stood out to us on our first visit!) and Kyoto in particular is super easy to navigate by cycle, especially since it's super flat. Two bikes for 24 hours were 700 yen each, around $10 total. Bikes function very differently than in the US; each bike has a lock on the back tire, so the owner gave us the keys for our rentals. Kyoto is pretty flat, so most bikes are cruiser style. It is an efficient way to get around and enjoy the scenery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next in our day was the International Manga Museum. I kind of don't even know where to start on this one, it's exactly what it sounds like!
Tumblr media
The entrance features shelves and shelves of manga from many countries all over the world; and further in are walls and walls of manga -- the museum also functions as a sort of library, so there are tons of desks around where you can sit and read to your heart's content while you're there. You can read anything you find, sit anywhere you find a seat, all they ask is you return it where you found the book. The main hall explains what manga is, how it is made, etc. and has huge walls of manga broken down by year it was made. There were lots of other small exhibits too. Another cool thing about this museum is that it's also a preserved local elementary school. Interspersed with the manga exhibits are displays and rooms explaining the history of the school, how it relates to the area, what a school day there may have been like, etc. Here's a main link to the International Manga Museum, and I'll probably do a seperate photo dump post for most of the photos we took there!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the manga museum, we planned to go to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, but Charles was feeling a bit weird, so we decided to go back to our Airbnb to rest for a bit instead. After about an hour of napping, we decided to get back out there, but unfortunately, by the time we got there, the actual Imperial Palace area itself was closed, we could only walk around the grounds, which are now preserved basically as a park, including the Munakata Shrine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two photos were the main walk up to the Imperial Palace (the walled off area with the big gate) but it closed at 4 PM apparently. Womp womp. Still, the photos don't do it justice to how insanely huge the space is, especially the mountains off in the distance behind the palace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are Japanese apricot trees (we think? they also come up as Prunus Mume, which are plum blossom trees, so I'm not 1000% sure the most accurate name!)
It was a little disappointing to not get to go inside, but it was getting quite cold as the sun was going down, so we walked around the left side of the grounds before going to Nishiki Market, where we planned to get a bite to eat.
Next up, Nishiki Market! XOX0

Can we just bring back Blockbuster? Video/DVD rental places? Bring back Friday night movie nights. Horror movie marathons with friends, with pizza and popcorn and ridiculous amounts of Fanta (Fanta twist was my poison back in the day).
I understand the want for things like Netflix and Disney plus, but there's just no soul in those platforms. I do miss having plans with family and friends where someone gets the food and someone else chooses the movies and you all meet back at the house with your surprises.
