Hola Ro ๐Ÿฅฐ
This is gonna be a mouthful but...
Thinking about Human! College au! Dorm neighbor! Beel and Belphie gets like 5 seconds of this lmao
Oc he's still a big eater but imma tone it*way* down cuz he human.
This bitch is the best cook in the entire dormitory. Like there is no broke college boy here because in addition to his job he sells lunch/dinner plates. They're reasonably priced but he sells so many that his profits are pilin' up Belphie has to help pack and deliver the trays.
Just imagine you move into your new dorm and before you even unpack your first item, there's a soft knock on the door. You open it up and you're honestly surprised at how far back you have to tilt your head to see the smiling face of this ginger. You studder a bit as you greet him and he smiles back warmly. "Hey! I'm Beelzebub, but you can call me Beel. I'm a Junior here" He smiles lifting up a tray "Brought over some lasagna, thought you might enjoy it" Oh! So that's what that gigantic tray he's holding has in it! Accepting the tray with a little smile you swear it weighs like 5 pounds. "Thanks... Uh, Would you like to join me? I couldn't possibly eat this much lasagna alone" He tilts his head slightly "You don't have a dormmate?" You shake you're head in response and Beel frowns a little bit. "I bet that's pretty lonely." He shakes his head and then smiles brightly again. "Well feel free to come by our dorm any time. I'll introduce you to my roommate tomorrow"
Beel comes in and the two of you eat lasagna together on your futon with box tables like a scene from a movie and you're taken aback by how much he eats. The tray of lasagna is finished in just under half an hour and you converse for a bit, complimenting him on his culinary skills and talking about classes and schedules. Eventually, he heads back to his dorm because whatever he was cooking in the pressure cooker is done and he needs to go pack meal trays. You offer to help as a thank you for the lasagna and he accepts joking about Belphie needing his beauty sleep anyways.
This becomes a regular thing for the two of you and Belphie is honestly grateful that his naps no longer need to be cut short. And surprisingly Beel's sales go up because you bring the flavors of your culture to the little business. Eventually it grows so much that Beel can quit his job and expenses are still fully covered.
Cutting to the list part of the hcs lmao
๐“†ฆ Beel who finds himself a bit flustered as mix and chop ingredients, occasionally lifting a little spoon to his lips for him to sample the flavor. Admiring the cute satisfied face you make when tells you the flavor is perfect.
๐“†ฆ Beel who eventually gets bold enough to lick a little bit of batter of your cheek, chuckling as your cheeks turn pink from his actions
๐“†ฆ Beel who buys/makes lots of cream filled treat because he loves how a little bit always spills out of the corners of your mouth when you take too big of a bite. Imagining is his cum spilling out of your mouth instead of just the cream of a pastry
๐“†ฆ Beel who jerks off in his room at 1 in the morning because he can't stop thinking about how your small hands were wrapped around the piping bag as the two of you iced mini cakes together. Wondering what it would be like for them to be wrapped around his cock instead. Belphie eventually knocking on his room door, telling him to be quite because the walls are thin and you can probably hear him from inside your dorm.
๐“†ฆ Belphie who visits you in your dorm asking you to please just fuck Beel already because he has to deal with Beel's horny ass all day, every day.
๐“†ฆ Beel who takes you on a proper date before he even tries to make a move on you because he wants to be a gentleman
My fingers are dead from typing this (ยดเผŽเบถ อœส– เผŽเบถ `)โ™ก

๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ!!!!!! I have no words oh fuckkkkk-
๐“†ฆ Very silly first thing but Beel who has a poster of Garfield eating ๏ฟผlasagna in his kitchen :))
๐“†ฆ Beel who during your date (if you went out for a change) sends a quick texts to Belphie telling him to get out so he can get laid-
๐“†ฆ Beel who is the perfect gentleman throughout your whole date!!! Even asking before he kisses you because he doesnโ€™t want to move too fastโ€ฆ
๐“†ฆ Beel who canโ€™t and wonโ€™t stop kissing you after that. The sweet softness fades away into hungry, biting kisses, as he nips at you bottom lip hoping to slip his tongue into your mouth. Only ever braking the kiss long enough to mumble about how good you taste~
๐“†ฆ Beel who tries so hard not to just rail you into next week- he really wants to be gentle and slowโ€ฆmake it feel special for your first time with himโ€ฆbut when you whine and moan like that he canโ€™t help it. Folding you practically in half on the bed and just stuffing you full~
๐“†ฆ Beel who canโ€™t stop telling you how well youโ€™re taking him, how good you feel around his cockโ€ฆhow itโ€™s so much better then heโ€™s imagined and oh fuck- donโ€™t squeeze him like thatโ€ฆ.he doesnโ€™t want to cum too soon!-
๐“†ฆ Beel who covers your tummy in his cum cuz heโ€™s worried about cumming inside on โ€˜the first dateโ€™ :((
๐“†ฆ Beel who still, after all that, wants to eat you out and have you cum on his tongueโ€ฆ..please? He knows youโ€™re sensitive but itโ€™ll feel good!! He promises!! He would have done it first but he couldnโ€™t wait to feel you around his cock-
๐“†ฆ Beel who carries you into the bathroom to wash the cum off, before taking you back to bed (dressed only in one of his huge t-shirts)
๐“ƒพ Belphie who sneaks in as quietly as he canโ€™t at like 3amโ€ฆ.but canโ€™t help peaking into Beelโ€™s room. Seeing your body wrapped around Beelโ€™s, โ€œGood date?โ€ both you and Beel open one eye and whisper back in unison, โ€œGreat date..โ€

Happy Birthday Juan
Sons of Anarchy Masterlist
This is very short, but I hope everyone likes it. This is the fic for the poll a few months ago.
Contains: Fluff on fluff on fluff, very mild angst.
1.5K words
You make sure Juice has the best birthday ever.
Tumblr media
You made sure to climb out of bed with the quiet of a church mouse, hoping last night's pre-birthday "gift" had tired Juice out enough that he would say asleep.
It must have worked because you managed to slip on your clothes and brush your teeth before heading out of the bedroom. Happy was already at the counter, having stayed the night after a nice dinner due to "bike troubles."
"I need a favor."
Happy offered you a soft smile, "I think I know what you're going to ask me little girl but go a head."
You smiled, "I have a plan for Juice's birthday, I need you to find some reason to stay the night tomorrow. I'd ask one of the others but they can't keep secrets for shit."
Happy chuckled, "I can do that, what are you planning?"
You went into detail, Happy nodding along, pausing to add his two cents now and then.ย
He was taking his head as you finished, "and how do you plan to keep him asleep for the first part of this?"
You gave Happy a look, "we're going to play Uno all night long, how the fuck do you think Hap? I spend a lot of money of some very fancy underwear and I'm going to put it to good use."ย
Happy was unfazed, "alright then, how about I tell the guys while you're busy with that, that way we don't have to do everything?"
You shoved his shoulder lovingly, "we make a great team."
Happy sighed, "yeah yeah, you've already roped me in, no need to butter me up more."
You started making breakfast while Happy called Chibs, making sure to be as quiet as you could so you didn't wake Juice. It took a little longer than usual, but Happy didn't take long on his phone call, so he helped. As you just placed the last egg on the plate, you heard the door open and Juice came out rubbing his face.ย
"Happy birthday dearest, I made you breakfast."ย
Juice smiled and walked over to you, pressing his lips to your cheek, "I am one lucky man." He sat down and tucked in while you put in the second part of your plan.ย
Chibs showed up a few minutes after Juice had finished breakfast with the tow truck for Happy's bike, doing his best to look sad. He sat at the table with a sigh and looked at Juice, "I'm sorry man, I know you were planning to spend your day with your girl, but we've had a rush of parts that need to be inventoried."ย
You made a sad face, "really, can't you call in someone else to do it?"ย
Chibs shook his head, "sorry lass, we need all hands on deck."ย
Juice sighed, "it's alright, we've had this happen before, I should be home by four."ย
You walked over and gave Juice a hug, glaring at Chibs as his smile widened as if to say,ย "don't blow this."ย
Juice walked away a little crestfallen and you moved on to stage three.ย
****
Juice arrived at T-M to a small surprise, Chibs had led him to believe that there were wall-to-wall boxes, but the shipment wasn't much bigger than average. Jax walked over and gave me a hug, "sorry man, I knew you had plans today but we need to get this shit done."
Juice nodded, "it's fine, it won't take us long."
****
"Wow, you're really going all out." Lyla looked over the ingredients on the counter with a smile on her face.
You smiled back, "I wanted to cook all his favourites, Happy's giving me updates, we have a few hours before he gets home." You picked up the sugar and butter, "I'll do the caramel if you tackle cake batter?"
She nodded, "done. What's after that?"
You thought for a moment, "I have to put the stew in the pressure cooker and make the mix for the pot stickers. This won't take long so I'm hoping we'll be done with most of the stuff in the next two hours."
Lyla smiled, "that sounds like a plan."
****
Juice called you on his lunch break and you did your best to keep the noise down so he wouldn't catch on, "how's your day been handsome?"ย
You could hear his smile, "better now that I'm talking to you, they guys are trying to take it easy on me but I'm not sure when I'll be home."ย
BEEEEEEEEEEEP
Oh shit, the oven
"What was that dollface?"ย
You and Lyla shared a look, "I'm making myself some tuna toast, sorry about that."ย
There was a pause and you could hear the disappointment in his voice, "oh, but you'll stay on the phone until my break is done right?"ย
You felt your heart hurt, but you buried it, "of course, it will stay warm for ages. Have you gotten any gifts yet?"ย
You knew he hadn't, you have carefully hidden all his gifts from the guys in the spare room, "no, I don't think they got me anything, I didn't ask anyway."ย
You took a deep breath, it was taking everything not to blurt out the truth, "we'll see, maybe they'll give you something before you leave."ย
There was a shout in the background, his lunch break was done, "I gotta go, I'll see you later. Love you."ย
"Love you too Juicy."ย
He sounded a bit deflated when he hung up so you went back to work, you were going to make sure today was the best birthday he had ever had.ย
****
Juice felt his mood drop as the day went on, by the time the guys started to leave his birthday really felt like any other day. He could tell his friends were trying, they let him have the first pick of the donuts, they didn't ask him to do as much as they normally would but it was still a disappointment, you had been telling him for weeks that you were going to make sure today was a good day.
To top it off, his partner at clear passages had called him just as he and Jax were locking up to tell him that something was wrong and that he needed to come by.
He called you just before he got on his bike, hoping that hearing your voice would give him the mood boost he needed to keep going, "hey dollface, I got bad news."
He could hear noise in the background but he figured it was just the TV, "oh no, what's wrong." You knew what was wrong, nothing, the Clear Passages "problem" was just a detour so everyone could be there by the time Juice got home.
"A bunch of money's been stolen at the weed shop, I'll probably be there till late tonight."
You did your best to sound sad, "I'm sorry Juicy, how about we take the weekend off to make up for all this? We can go to that little country house we love so much."
There was a pause and then his mood picked up, "I'd love that, I'll be home as soon as I can. Love you y/n."
"Love you too Juicy."
****
When Juice got to Clear Passages, he was surprised there were no police there. He ran up to his partner, who offered him a slightly embarrassed smile, "I'm sorry, I miscounted then, in a panic, put half of the cash down and walked away, then I forgot where I had left it. False alarm."
Juice breathed a sigh of relief, "no worries man, I'm gonna head back home, it's been a long day."
His partner nodded, "sure, happy birthday Juice."
Juice waved his hand, "thanks."
****
You were lucky Juice pulled up to the house when he did because you didn't think you could hold it in any longer. You shooed back room and sat on the couch, doing your best to act natural as he opened the door, "you're home early, I thought something was wrong?"
Juice shot you a wide smile and opened his arms for a hug, "nah, nothing was wrong." You hugged him as hard as you could and he must have picked up on something because he pulled away and looked over your face, "what are you up to?"
Your eyes went wide, "nothing, nothing at all. Just don't go into the spare room whatever you do."
There was no signs of what was going on around that house and everyone had parked their cars and bikes in the backyard so Juice couldn't see them when he drove in. He brushed pasted you and placed his hand on the door to the spare room as you held back a smile.
He smirked at you and flung it open "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!"
There was a burst of streamers and Juice's face broke out into a grin, "I fucking knew it, I knew you were planning something." Everyone was there and the room was decked out with balloons and decorations, there was a table piled high with gifts and something off to the side that looked suspiciously like some had tried to wrap a motorbike.
You smiled and walked up to him, pressing a kiss to his cheek, "I hope you didn't because this took weeks to plan but knowing these guys, they gave it away."
Juice captured you in a kiss and you leaned into it, placing you hand on the back of his head as he deepened it.
The crowd broke into a cheer and you separated from each other, "Happy birthday my love."

reasons for a character to be angsty *other than* "abusive/deadbeat parents," "was bullied/assaulted," "queer and living with homophobic parents," or "someone died"
okay. hear me out. maybe it's just me but i'm tired of seeing the very heavy, triggering backstories listed above used to create brooding darkness within a character. now, that's not to say you can't use those. i've seen a couple authors use them and handle them very well. but i feel like they've been overused and, for the majority, not handled particularly well most of the time. hence, i've created a list of alternative reasons for your fictional charater to be a 'lil angsty without that weight of trauma that could be fumbled easily if not handled carefully. feel free to use these and share this around, that's what it's there for. feel free also to provide suggestions in the comments and i'll add them to the list.
โˆ˜ time period specific generation z angst: "the planet is turning into a pressure cooker, everything is on fire, democracy is crumbling like a dry pound cake, and nobody who has any power is doing anything because they only care about making money."
โˆ˜ habitual insomniac who just can't f***ing get their sleep schedule together. they're snarky and brooding because they're so. f***ing. tired.
โˆ˜ eldest sibling angst.
โˆ˜ middle sibling angst.
โˆ˜ youngest sibling angst.
โˆ˜ existential gender/sexuality/educational/career/faith/insert here crisis
โˆ˜ crisis of desired vs. perceived identity: "I want people to see me this way but all they ever see is this."
โˆ˜ they have a goal. they're really motivated. they're trying hard and they know they're good at what they do. but for some reason either they face consistent roadblocks from other people, or other people just refuse to acknowledge it.
โˆ˜ wanting something they can't have, but not in a whiny "he's so hot and I want to go out with him but he won't look at me" sort of way. no, as in, "I want to go visit my family in [insert country] but I don't have the time or money to go and I haven't seen my cousin in years she must be walking and drawing on the walls by now."
โˆ˜ unhealthy workaholic with a deep dark secret: that research project, etc. they've been obsessing and staying up late over and pushing everyone away for . . .
โˆ˜ sympathy angst: character has a friend/relative that cannot or will not acknowledge the emotions they ought to be feeling, so this character starts feeling the emotions for them
โˆ˜ character is caring for someone who is injured/ill (they don't even have to be dying, or in critical condition) and it's taking a toll
โˆ˜ character has been in one profession for a long time. now they've quit, moved on, and are doing something else. maybe they've retired. but they miss their old job, plus they find themselves falling back into the old habits. they worked that job so long they don't know how to be anything else.
โˆ˜ generational gothic: the character has uncovered a long-buried secret. maybe about their family. maybe about their place of work. maybe about their hometown, or the house they bought. whatever it is, everyone else seems to have forgotten it, and moved on. but they know. and they must cope with the burden of this aged secret thrown over their shoulders.
โˆ˜ performative angst: character is really into one of the fine arts. or building cars. or a martial art. or history. or science. whatever. point is, they develop angst deliberately as a performative state because they think it sounds cool.
โˆ˜ something the character has always believed to be a concrete fact turns out to be just another terrible fiction.
โˆ˜ character discovers a truth about themselves they had not previously realized. now they must analyze it, and come to terms with it. โˆ˜ career-based moral/ethical angst: I do what I have to do because it's necessary and important (or because it's what i've always known, or both). but is it really good, or right? could there be a better way?
โˆ˜ time-period specific 1960's system-directed anger, whether that's to do with the civil rights movement or the war or both.
โˆ˜ character has moved to a new place. now, they must adjust to new societal expectations and customs, and possibly new food and culture as well. they feel strange and out of place, and miss their homeland.
โˆ˜ the character recently ended a relationship (romantic or otherwise) that was no longer functioning. they're the person who ended it, because they could see that things weren't working out anymore, but they're also very aware that the "it's not working out" went both ways and is much their fault as their friend/partner's. hence, they've gone and convinced themself that they were the bad guy, even though they really weren't.
โˆ˜ character had a massive falling out with a beloved friend or relative and now the two can't get along. they can barely be in the same room and it's dragging on the both of them and everyone around them.

I donโ€™t know if you watched Taehyungโ€™s live today but he made a comment about how hybe asked him if he wanted a cake for his album debut and he said no. I know a lot of PJMs were upset about Jimin not having a cake but this shows that he could have refused a cake as well.
***
My friends made sure to bring me up to speed on his live, though Iโ€™m yet to watch the full thing myself.
His comments seemed too pointed considering the topics that have dominated fan spaces since Jiminโ€™s release - specifically his comments about how he is in control of his promotions and that Hybe gave him the option of getting a cake.
I saw the clips where he mentioned that heโ€™d promote his album based on the options ARMYs suggest on Weverse, indicating that his album promotion tools are solely at his discretion. And I saw him mention that he didnโ€™t have a cake because he didnโ€™t want one at that point. Both sentences were made with very little preamble so it seems he just said it to get ahead of accusations he knew would be coming given everything PJMs have been saying for months about how โ€˜mistreatedโ€™ Jimin is for apparently not having things like a cake shown on camera or apparently not having any real control over his promotion tools from BigHit.
If thatโ€™s the case, then itโ€™s interesting because it implies the members are aware of all the noise around his cake and promotions, including Jimin and Tae, and just like Yoongi tried to get ahead of โ€˜mistreatmentโ€™ claims with his own comments on how they control the spending on their budgets, Taeโ€™s comments sound like heโ€™s trying to shut down those mistreatment claims that started around FACEโ€™s release too, and it makes me wonder how Jimin feels about all this, if itโ€™s something he talks to the other members about, if itโ€™s something they laugh about, or if itโ€™s a pain point for him. The other members can see all thatโ€™s going down, see all the insane and pointless rhetoric coming out of fan spaces, and are now explaining things like why we donโ€™t see a cake on cameraโ€ฆ.
Itโ€™s not been surprising that after all the talk about how we should treat these grown men like they have agency, how we shouldnโ€™t infantilize them, etcโ€ฆ but when push comes to shove, when faced with a practical example of a grown man being able to handle his affairs including whether or not he gets or has a cake, because itโ€™s not the option fans prefer they immediately toss all that caution to the wind, reaching for the scenario in which he is most powerless, most helpless, and most in need of their help. Itโ€™s not surprising because it happens all the time, and is in fact the reason topics like โ€˜infantilizationโ€™ of k-pop idols, โ€˜saviour complexโ€™ in k-pop stans, and questions around agency and privilege of idols in k-pop, become topics of discourse here in the first place.
Because we all know, when issues start to impact our favourites, suddenly all those topics lose meaning. Suddenly, the arguments then become:
- Tae coming online to say that has to be the company controlling him to do damage control so they can continue mistreating other members,
- Tae is complicit in the abuse of his bandmate,
- Tae is a bad person anyway who is jealous of Jimin, and who sends his fans and shippers to attack Jimin.
โ€ฆ
This is how narratives based on speculation, conjecture, and overall feelings, take on a life of their own in this pressure cooker environment that is fandom, and become living breathing things that persist for months or even years until the members spell out that those narratives donโ€™t apply to them. And even then that doesnโ€™t always kill it. Because oftentimes, these narratives exist more for the fan, as a way to explain to themselves in a way consistent with that fanโ€™s own worldview, what is happening within HYBEโ€™s black walls in Seoul that this fan has no real way of knowing. These โ€˜mistreatmentโ€™ narratives around all the debuts in Chapter 2, are products from fans, made by fans for fans, and most times actually have nothing to do with the real facts around the guys in BTS. Facts that none of us are privy too until (usually) the members themselves reveal it with time, and when that happens the real facts donโ€™t line up with the dominant narratives in fan spaces. Like, at all.
Jimin isnโ€™t one to talk unless he absolutely needs to, or feels like it. Iโ€™ve noticed he seems to confound his biases and solos, and now after Taeโ€™s live, thereโ€™s good reason to think at least Jimin and Tae are aware, and yet he doesnโ€™t deem any of this hoopla as worth responding to. Or at least, not yet. And we know Jimin is not the sort to instigate his fans on purpose and then dip. Heโ€™s not cruel. My pet theory is that if we trust that heโ€™s capable of handling his affairs, that all the other members wouldnโ€™t look on while any one of them was being mistreated, then Jimin is solely focused on his new projects in Chapter 2. Thatโ€™s what is actually important and so that is what heโ€™s focusing on. Perhaps when PJM2 is out heโ€™ll directly address many of these issues. I expect this could happen, but heโ€™ll be more subtle than Tae about it.
Weโ€™ll see.

145 dead and 322 injured.ย ย
A distressed sigh escaped me as I closed the lid of my pressure cooker, ready to simmer the stew inside. I wiped my hands as I walked out of my small kitchen, which opens onto my dining room adjoining my living room, and reached for my remote to turn off the television, where a continuous news channel was running, making my quiet flat a little more lively while I cooked.
Three weeks had passed since the series of attacks in London, which had rightly monopolised media attention. My family returned to France as soon as possible, after I refused to follow them. I couldnโ€™t be the support they asked for and they couldnโ€™t be mine. I had always preferred to walk on my own after such events, pretending like nothing happened, or with such detachment that it became distressing for others. ButI was like that, and to do otherwise would be far too difficult for me to handle and mentally impactful.ย
I slumped on my green Mario Bellini, contrasting with the Georgian architecture of my flat and the building itself, immersed in calm. Coming home was always one of the strangest moments. Going from absolute chaos, to the most familiar calm. For the past few days, I felt drained, physically and psychologically, but always with the sentiment of having done the best I could.
There was always a before and after anyway. And we had to accept it, get used to it. That was how life goes after all. Everyone lived with their ups and downs. And the beautiful and less beautiful things. But after such traumatic events, I needed, I felt, to keep a positive perspective. And to try to escape in vain from pessimism and the idea that the darkest part of the human being will come out at some time or other.ย
But today was my day off. These hospital shifts and series of surgeries had exhausted me. With no idea what to do, I decided to watch a boring movie and fall asleep to it, but my phone vibrated. Thinking a medical emergency at first, I was surprised to read an unknown number. I hesitated to answer, suspecting a scam.ย
"Hello?" I said, finally picking up the phone.ย
"Hello (y/n)?"
That accent, that voice...
I suddenly stood up on my couch, awakened by this call that I hadn't expected for a long time.
"Simon?" I asked, still unsure of who I was talking to. "Is that you?"
"Yes, it's me. It's been a long time."ย
"Long time? Is the remorse of being stood up on Halloween too much to bear?" I teased.
I heard him clear his throat, probably embarrassed.ย
"I'm kidding." I added. "I don't really care. How are you doing?"ย
"I guess that's more like my job to ask. I heard about London, are you okay?"ย
"Oh... Uh..." I started to stammer, taken aback.
He only called to see if I was alive after the attacks? Strange. Even after our first meeting a few months ago, he didn't even bother to contact me. And I couldnโ€™t on my own, without his number.ย
"As much as it can be." I say, before hastily inquiring. "What about you ? I hope your family is fine and that no one close to you has been hurt or killed."
"Don't worry about that." He assured me.
He didn't pursue the conversation, and not knowing what to say, I asked the first thing that popped into my head.
"How is the weather in Manchester? Does it snow? We had our first snow yesterday in London."
I slapped myself in the face. Rain or shine. What kind of uninteresting conversation was this? I came across as a conversationless goof and made the exchange all the more uncomfortable.
"I'm not in Manchester right now. I'm in London for work."ย
"You're in London?" I exclaimed, pleasantly surprised. "Well, why don't we meet this afternoon? I know a lovely tearoom near the British Museum! They make delicious cakes and their teas are very good.โ€
I felt my heart racing slightly, apprehensive about his refusal. But as I liked saying to myself : nothing ventured, nothing gained.ย
"Near the British Museum?"ย
"If that's too far for you, I can find a more convenient one. Where do you stay?"
"No, no. The museum suits me."
"So you accept?"ย
"Yes, but I'm only free after 4pm."
"Then we'll meet at 4.30 or 5pm in the tearoom! I'll send you the address by phone. See you later!"
"See you."
I hung up, more than delighted. My watch indicated 2pm, leaving me two solid hours to wash and get ready. Clearly, this was not a date. Or... maybe it was? But at the same time, did I really want to?ย
After William... This was so recent. And this whole story had made me really question myself. I was not ready and even less made to commit me in an umpteenth relationship. And all these failures in love had made me realise one thing: my work came first. With each break-up, the subject came up like a landslide: I didn't invest enough in the relationship, I didn't offer enough affection, and when I went out into the field, I barely made a call. But as the expression went: no news is good news, right?ย
More seriously, despite my desire to laugh, it was painful. Painful to know that no matter how hard I tried and how much I loved someone, that person will feel lonely and neglected enough to be forced to commit infidelity. But what could I do about it? My work meant everything to me. This was my life, my identity. It pushed me beyond my limits, stimulated me, and gave meaning to what I did. To lose him would be to lose a part of myself.ย
So no, I didn't want another relationship while I continued to mourn the last one, understanding that this problem which all my partners blamed me for, will never find a solution.ย

How I adored this sweet tearoom nestled between two London streets. It was tiny and cosy, run by a welcoming family. I had arrived first and so had taken the initiative to wait inside, booking a table for two of us. The best for my taste. Near the frosted window that let you see the few passers-by wrapped up in their coats and hats, under the light snowflakes getting lost in the city. I had settled into the low wicker chair, leaving the pretty Victorian sofa for Simon if he came. It was a bit crowded, and I regularly checked the entrance behind me, and my messages, hoping for a sign of life from him.ย
"(y/n)?"
I jumped at Simon's voice, not having heard him move quietly near me, too focused on my phone. My eyes went up to him. And my memories didn't fail me. Except for his stubble, better trimmed, he looked exactly the same as that night, contrary to me who, I hoped, was much more presentable. I pointed to the settee, which he accepted after taking off his coat and cap, letting his short brown hair breathe.ย ย
"Did you find it easy?" I asked, trying to get the conversation going as quickly as possible.
"Yes, and you're right. The place is sound, must-see their tea now."
"Oh! I promise they're excellent! I always drink their black smoked vanilla tea, it's just so good. That, along with their lemon cakes. Lemon pies are my favourite. But I also recommend their banoffee." I jabbered, handing him the card that our waiter came to bring us.
He finally took an orange-flavoured Ceylon black tea, without sweets, and we could give the waiter our order.
"You look fine." He finally said, after a few seconds of silence while I fidget with my napkin.
Perhaps he realised my slight embarrassment. At least, I took this chance to talk about the latest events in my life, without confiding all the woes that weighed on my heart either. I never talked about myself, or more precisely, about my feelings, about something so intimate. I myself found it hard sometimes to put my finger on what I felt. I struggled with vulnerability, and I just didnโ€™t understand how people could feel so comfortable sharing their pain, their uncertainties, their problems with others. This was so personal. Nevertheless, Simon was clearly intrigued by the series of attacks in London, and what better way to share my experience with him.ย
"I'm actually a bit worried about my family." I confessed, glancing up at him. "I was with them in Leicester market the day of the attack and... they're deeply affected by it. Of course, I was advising them to go to a wartime psychologist, a normal psychologist would be useless, they've been through something that a normal French or British person can't experience. But I realise that it will be difficult for them to get past this event, and it kills me not to know and be able to help them as I would like."
"And you? Won't it be difficult to live with that?" He asked, clearly intrigued.
I let out a small sigh. The last thing I wanted was to come across as insensitive or mentally deranged. I needed to find the right words, and not speak without thinking as I was so good at doing.ย
"I've been to war zones before, where I've been confronted with difficult things. The London attacks have... surprisingly not affected me in the way I thought they would. I don't have nightmares, I don't have post-traumatic stress disorder. But it could have."
"It's the kind o'thing you can't anticipate, after all." He added. "Ever been to a war zone?"ย
"I'm a humanitarian doctor." I informed him, just as our orders arrived.
I thanked the waiter before continuing.
"I worked in the Sahel and Afghanistan with the Red Cross. Then I went to other countries, in short-term missions, especially during natural disasters."ย
"And now?"
"Now I'm taking a break for a year. I'm a trauma surgeon at the St. Thomas Hospital. In spring, I'll go to Urzikstan, for six months. At one of Basat's hospitals."
"The second largest city after Sakhra." He noted.ย
"Hmm..." I approved, pouring myself a cup of tea. "You know your geography well.โ€
"And isn't hard? Humanitarian doctor. Going from the comfort of St. Thomas to a Basat hospital."
"Of course, it's always a bit of a shock and takes time to adjust. But humanitarian medicine is such an exciting profession that requires so much commitment. Once you taste the world of humanitarianism, it's pretty hard to return to a quieter life. So this tea?" I queried as he dipped his lips into his cup.
He nodded with contentment to my great pleasure. A little more talkative than when we first met, he was interested in my job, then our conversation drifted to my life. I invited him to taste my delicious lemon pie, but he refused, claiming not to have a sweet tooth. In spite of this tรชte-ร -tรชte which presents quite well, of the few jokes he was slipping here and there, a typically British humour which made me roar with laughter, something bothered me. In his behaviour, his look.ย
"You know, if I ever bother you, just tell me and... we'll stop now. I don't want you to feel obligated, or to force yourself out of pity." I suddenly declared without warning.
I took him visibly by surprise at his astonished expression. Perplexed, he swallowed his steaming sip of tea as best he could and immediately asked.ย
"Well, I'm enjoying myself. What makes you think not?"
Now it was my turn to feel flabbergasted, but mostly stupid. It had always been hard for me to grasp people, and more importantly to understand them by their body language. That was partly why I had always had a deep respect for these charlatan mediums, who knew how to read non-verbal language well, passing off this cold reading as clairvoyance.ย
Oh God, how I lacked this, as at that precise moment when I misinterpreted Simon's behaviour, which was clear after all.
"Uh... ugh... For nothing. Never mind." I stammered before I managed to make up for it. "I just felt like I'd forced your hand on this meeting, and didn't want to ruin your day on top of that."
"Your company is more pleasant to me than mine." He joked. "Don't worry."
"You're harsh with yourself. You're a man of few words but of pleasant company." I bugged him. "I swear."ย
"I get that a lot."
"Of what? That you're pleasant company?
"Hell, no. That I'm a man o' few words."
I laughed heartily and we continued joking until we finished our drinks. I insisted on paying, to his displeasure, but clearly I was much more stubborn than him. I had my way with him, and he proposed to take me home. As a gesture of gratitude, he said. I accepted without hesitation.
The first thing that greeted us as soon as we left the small tearoom was a glacial breeze winding through the city streets, slowly covered by a thin layer of snow. With a contented sigh, I completely closed my long vicuna Harlan coat, in an attempt to prevent the sudden wind from sneaking through the few openings my warm outfit could leave.
I then looked up at Simon, to see him wrapping his blushing face in the thick grey scarf he was wearing, leaving almost no skin exposed. The poor guy seemed to be enduring these winter temperatures rather badly. I let out an amused chuckle, causing him to tilt his head in my direction.
"What's so funny?" He queried in a gruff voice, muffled by the thick layer of wool covering his mouth.
"Nothing, nothing..." I reassured him as I set off.
In spite of the wintery temperatures, we preferred to walk all the way. It was a crepuscular promenade in the snowy alleys of London, still illuminated by Christmas decorations, despite the new year having started a few days ago. The two of us strolled peacefully through the quiet streets, and I had no hesitation in enlivening our conversation with anecdotes that are as far-fetched and comical as each other. My cheerful voice rose in this night as dark as ebony, shamelessly disturbing the lull of the district in which we were walking.
"Yer wot?" He exclaimed. "Did you really put a fucking whoopee in the confessional?" Simon scoffed.ย
"But I was sick of it! My parents forced me to attend catechism even if I didn't want to!" I protested, faced with these events perceived as real injustices in my childhood. "After a while, my rebellious side got the better of me, and too bad if I would never be at one with God again according to my parish priest or my family." I sneered.
"I vaguely remember my childhood, but in my family, it was rather as one with whisky."
I tried to hold back my inappropriate laughter, but the strange sound that came out of my mouth didnโ€™t go unheard.
"Sorry, I shouldn't laugh about it, it sounds awful." I said, still chuckling. "My grandpa was also more at one with wine than God."
Without further ado, I took one of my usual paths. It was a pleasant, seldom used alley. Simon began to reflect on the umpteenth conversation about a misadventure experienced during his adolescence. But he was immediately interrupted by an unexpected and disconcerting collision, shaking the back of his head.ย
"Bloody fu..."
He froze, probably feeling the instant afterwards, a cold, disturbing fluid flowing down his neck, inevitably penetrating his coat. He let out a disgusted grunt as he tried in vain to prevent the snow from doing more damage. It didnโ€™t take a genius to figure out who caused this sudden snowball attack. My contagious laughter as always shaking the serenity of the place was a perfect clue to unmask the culprit. He turned to me, who contemplated him mischievously. Although far from irritated, he was clearly baffled by my juvenile action.
"Are you serious?" He declared, bewildered as my hilarity intensified, giving him a clear answer.
I bent down, gathering enough snow in my two gloved hands, and formed a new ball which I threw with no hesitation. But this time prepared, he easily dodged it. He ran to hide behind a parked car.
"You know that's a war declaration you just made?" He exclaimed as I giggled.
"And I'm willing to feed you some snow, Brit!"
He took the opportunity to create a snowball and immediately to throw it in my direction. Far from being as skilful as him, I barely avoided it, but almost tumbled to the ground. Nevertheless, I managed to regain my balance. This moment of distraction earned me a second snowball, in the face this time. However, a satisfied smile appeared on my lips when I saw that he was playing the game, despite his apparent seriousness. I immediately resumed our fierce bloody fight which ended in a bitter defeat on my part. But I accepted it in good faith. I managed to touch him and to push snow into the collar of his jumper, and that was priceless.ย
"Are we almost there?" Simon asked, after we started our way again.
And I could only understand his impatience. After our childish interlude, the snow had covered my poor coat so well that its once beige colour was barely noticeable, and my scarf had just frozen solid. I preferred not to mention the clothes under my coat, as they were both soaked and frozen. A very bad combination. The same was probably true for Simon.
"Just two streets awayโ€, I assured him.
"You live in Mayfair?" He wondered, and rightly so.ย
"Yeah... But the flat belonged to my great grandfather, and I took it over when I moved to London for William a few years ago. I know, it still sounds very bombastic, and I hate that, considering that I have no credit for acquiring it."
"Don't need to justify yourself." He reassured me, and I thanked him for that.
We soon arrived at the door of my building. And with all my gratitude for this most pleasant day and afternoon, I offered him a warm goodbye while an idea arose in my mind. But I still had to summon up the courage to do it.ย
"Wait, Simon!" I shouted abruptly as I stepped outside, greeted by a gust of wind that made my scarf flutter.
He turned towards me, to see myself running after my goddamn scarf spinning away from him. It fell into the gully next to the road, and in this double misfortune, I slipped on an icy surface, falling firmly to the pavement. I hissed as I felt pain shoot through my coxal bone.ย
"You're ok?" Simon worried, hurrying to my side.
He picked up my soaked scarf, and helped me up.ย
"More scared than hurt," I informed him. "Shit, I just wanted to ask you for dinner with me. I've prepared a bit too much daube, which I can accompany with mashed squash and an excellentย Chรขteauneuf-du-Papeย of 2005โ€ฆ" I drift in a whisper.ย ย ย
"And in English? How would that sound?" He scoffed, walking me back to the entrance of the building.ย
"How about a nice French dish with marinated beef and fine wine?"ย
"I thought you're a terrible cook."
"Well, I've got a reputation to uphold as a French woman. I'm not a great head chef, but I have some basics."
I opened the door, then turned to him. He seemed conflicted about this last-minute offer.ย
"Take it or leave it, Simon. But know that you'll never taste a better daube than this. It's an ancestral recipe."ย ย
"You know how to sell it, but I decline. I'm busy tonight." He admitted.
I puckered my lips in a resigned smile, wishing to disguise my disappointment. But I accepted his choice, and let him go with a final goodbye. My building door closed behind me, bringing an end to the most delightful day I had lived in weeks. I started to walk up the wooden staircase, my flat being only on the first floor, but three knocks against the door resonated in the hallway and stopped me. I turned towards the entrance and recognised the large and high figure of Simon. I hurriedly opened the door for him.ย
"You forgot something?"ย
"Even if I've always preferred whisky, I felt a good wine from time to time seems fit." He confessed. "Un Chรขteauneuf-du-Pape." He tried to repeat in his adorable English accent.
My eyes immediately sparkled, understanding what he meant. I willingly let him into the hall, and didnโ€™t hesitate to tease him about his changeable, fickle persona, versatile in his opinions or views.
"I didn't know you were such a weathervane, but it's a great pleasure Simon. Always."

In the world of kitchen appliances, the humble rice cooker is often underrated. Yet, this simple device holds the potential to revolutionize your culinary experience. Whether youโ€™re a busy professional, a college student, or someone who simply loves to cook, the best rice cooker can significantly enhance your cooking game.
This post will explore how a rice cooker can transform your kitchen routine, making meal preparation easier, faster, and more versatile.
Introduction to the Rice Cooker Revolution
Rice cookers have come a long way from their basic origins. Initially designed to cook rice to perfection, modern rice cookers offer a multitude of functions that extend far beyond their original purpose.
With advancements in technology, todayโ€™s rice cookers can steam vegetables, make soups, bake cakes, and even prepare entire meals. This versatility makes them an indispensable tool in any kitchen, capable of simplifying meal prep and expanding your culinary repertoire.
The Versatility of Modern Rice Cookers
One of the most remarkable features of modern rice cookers is their versatility. High-end models come equipped with various settings that allow you to cook different types of rice, from white and brown to jasmine and sushi rice, each to its perfect consistency. But thatโ€™s just the beginning.
Many rice cookers now include settings for slow cooking, steaming, sautรฉing, and even pressure cooking. This means you can use a rice cooker to prepare a wide range of dishes, from risottos and porridges to stews and steamed vegetables.
Convenience and Ease of Use
One of the primary advantages of using a rice cooker is the convenience it offers. With a rice cooker, you can set it and forget it. Simply add the ingredients, select the appropriate setting, and let the appliance do the rest. This hands-off approach not only saves you time but also reduces the effort and stress associated with meal preparation.
Furthermore, most rice cookers come with a keep-warm function, ensuring your food stays hot and ready to serve even if youโ€™re not quite ready to eat.
Energy Efficiency
Rice cookers are also energy efficient. They consume less electricity compared to traditional stovetop cooking methods. This not only helps in reducing your energy bills but also contributes to a more sustainable kitchen. The insulated design of rice cookers ensures that heat is utilized effectively, minimizing wastage and maximizing efficiency.
Perfect Results Every Time
Consistency is key in cooking, and rice cookers excel in delivering perfect results every time. Whether youโ€™re cooking a single serving or preparing a large batch, rice cookers are designed to cook rice evenly and thoroughly.
This consistency extends to other dishes as well, thanks to the precise temperature and time controls that many models offer. With a rice cooker, you can say goodbye to undercooked or burnt rice and enjoy perfectly cooked meals every time.
Health Benefits

Additionally, cooking at home with a rice cooker allows you to control the ingredients and avoid the additives and preservatives often found in pre-packaged foods. This can lead to healthier eating habits and improved overall well-being.

From making fluffy rice and tender meats to baking delicious cakes and desserts, the possibilities are endless. This can make cooking more enjoyable and satisfying, as you discover new flavors and textures.

The amount of batter you use and the size of the pan will affect how long it takes to cook. It took me about 50 minutes to bake one small cake, which yielded about 10 larger sized cakes. I used a 5 liter premier pressure cooker made of aluminium. You can also use the cooker you have at home. This will include the recipe of eggless chocolate cake.

Salt
Chocolate Cake Recipe: How to make Chocolate Cake Recipe:
1. Take out all the ingredients used in the cake and keep them on the table.
2. To make the cake, apply oil in the utensil. Grease the utensil for making cake with ghee or spread it, take a small spoonful of all purpose flour and keep it in this lubricated utensil and hold the utensil from outside and rotate it in such a way that a small layer of all purpose flour should be applied. Remove excess flour from the pot, out of control inside the pot.
3. For the cake, add baking powder and cocoa powder to the flour taken and sift it twice. Put ghee and sugar in a big utensil and beat it well with a spoon, pour mixed milk into it and beat it till it mixes well.
4. Slowly add sifted flour to this mixture and keep on stirring, after adding all the flour, whisk the flour for 2-3 minutes, there should not be any lumps in the solution. After 40 minutes, check the cake well, if the cake is not heated well, then by putting a blade inside the cake, the mixture is coming on the blade, then, at that time, prepare the cake more, soon the cake is ready Will be done. ,
8. Open the cooker, you can see that the cake is cooked, assuming you need to test it too, put a blade in the cake and check if the cake does not stick to the blade, then your cake is fully cooked.
9. Now let the cooker cool down, when the cooker cools down, take out the vessel containing the cake. Take out the cake in a plate with the help of a knife.

Can You Use Instant Pot Recipes In A Pressure Cooker
Tumblr media
Hi everyone! Iโ€™m sure many of you have heard about the Instant Pot craze โ€“ it seems like everybody is talking about it these days. But what if you donโ€™t own an Instant Pot? Can you still take advantage of all those amazing recipes out there? The answer is yes! In this article, I'll be discussing how to use Instant Pot recipes in a pressure cooker. So keep reading and discover just how easy it can be to make all your favorite meals without having to invest in the latest kitchen gadget. Maybe You Also Like: Can You Use Cake Recipe For Cupcakes Can You Use Pancake Recipe For Waffles Can You Use Salted Butter If Recipe Calls For Unsalted Understanding The Basics Of Pressure Cooking Yes, you can use Instant Pot recipes in a pressure cooker! Pressure cookers and Instant Pots are both great tools for fast cooking that help to enhance the flavors of food. The main difference between them is that an Instant Pot has added features such as being able to sautรฉ or steam, while traditional pressure cookers only do one thing: apply high pressure to your ingredients so they become tender quickly. Before using either tool, it's important to familiarize yourself with safety precautions, like making sure all valves are securely closed before turning on the heat source and understanding how much liquid should be used when cooking different types of ingredients. Additionally, keep an eye out for any general warnings included in specific recipes - these will ensure the best possible result from your efforts. Using either a pressure cooker or an Instant Pot adds extra flavor enhancements compared to other methods of cooking due to its shortened preparation time. Ingredients have less exposure to air and moisture during the cooking process which helps maintain their natural flavors better than conventional stovetop techniques. Plus, since thereโ€™s no need to add more oil or butter when using a pressure cooker/Instant Pot combo, dishes come out healthier too! Comparing Instant Pot And Pressure Cooker Features Now that we understand the basics of pressure cooking, let's take a look at how an Instant Pot differs from a traditional pressure cooker. Pressure control is one of the key differences between these two devices. With an Instant Pot, you can select different levels of pressure depending on what type of food you're preparing. This allows for greater flexibility when cooking and ensures your food comes out just right! Another major difference between an Instant Pot and a traditional pressure cooker is cookware selection. Traditional pressure cookers are limited to metal pots or pans, so if you wanted to use something like pyrex glass or ceramic dishes, it would not be possible with this type of device. On the other hand, Instant Pots allow you to use any kind of non-metal container as long as they fit within their size constraints. This makes them much more versatile than their traditional counterparts. In short, both types of appliances offer great benefits in terms of time-saving and convenience but there are some distinct advantages that come along with using an Instant Pot over a traditional pressure cooker such as increased control over pressure settings and expanded options for cookware selection. All things considered, either option will provide users with easy access to delicious meals cooked quickly and safely! Converting Recipes For Pressure Cooker Use Yes, you can use instant pot recipes in a pressure cooker! However, there are some key steps to keep in mind when converting them. Firstly, itโ€™s important to be aware of any differences between the two types of cookers and make sure that your recipe works with the one you have at home. Secondly, you will need to convert measurements as well as choose ingredients that work for both types of cookers. Finally, remember to adjust cooking times if necessary. With these tips in mind, you'll be able to successfully adapt an instant pot recipe for use in a pressure cooker. Adjusting Cooking Times For Pressure Cooking Yes, you can use instant pot recipes in a pressure cooker. However, there are some adjustments that need to be made for safety and optimal cooking results. The most important adjustment is the cooking times โ€“ they must be shortened when using a traditional stovetop pressure cooker. Itโ€™s also important to make sure the ingredient ratios remain the same, otherwise your dish may not turn out as desired. If you're new to pressure cooking, it's best to start with experienced cookbook authors who have tested their recipes extensively with electric pressure cookers on high-pressure settings. As well, take note of any warnings listed by the recipe author regarding potential risks associated with certain ingredients or techniques. Be sure to follow all safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer of your pressure cooker! When you get comfortable with how long each type of food needs to cook at high pressures, then you can begin experimenting with electric pressure cooker recipes cooked at lower temperatures and longer durations. This helps ensure that foods don't overcook or become mushy due to extended exposure time under pressurized steam heat. With practice and experience, you'll soon be able to confidently convert instant pot recipes for use in a traditional stovetop pressure cooker! Tips For Successful Pressure Cooking I'm sure you've all heard of the wonders of pressure cooking! It's a great way to get your meal ready in no time, while still making it delicious. However, there are some tips you should keep in mind when using a pressure cooker to make sure your food comes out perfect every time. First off, make sure that your pot is properly sealed and pressurized before starting to cook. Check the lid for any cracks or damage, as these can cause steam leakage and ruin your dish. Additionally, assess the pressure gauges on the side of the pot regularly to ensure that it stays within its recommended range during cooking. Finally, be mindful of what temperature setting you choose for your recipes. Most electric-powered models come with preset functions for different types of dishes; however, if you're new at this kind of cooking then I recommend sticking with lower temperatures until you become more familiar with how each one works best. Keep an eye on the timer too โ€“ overcooking is never pleasant! Frequently Asked Questions Is It Safe To Use A Pressure Cooker? Using a pressure cooker is often seen as an intimidating task. But, if you follow the safety tips and cooking times properly, it can be a safe and effective way to prepare meals quickly. Make sure that your pressure cooker has been tested for quality control and make sure all of its components are working correctly before using it. Additionally, familiarize yourself with the instructions in order to ensure that you understand how long food should cook under different levels of pressure. Taking these simple precautions will help ensure that your pressure-cooking experience is both delicious and safe! Are Pressure Cookers Better Than Instant Pots? When it comes to choosing between a pressure cooker and an Instant Pot, both have their advantages. Pressure cookers offer time-saving benefits because they can cook food much faster than traditional cooking methods, while also featuring safety measures like the release of steam for added protection. On the other hand, Instant Pots are gaining popularity due to their versatility โ€“ you can use them as multi-cookers or slow cookers in addition to pressure cooking. Ultimately, itโ€™s up to you decide which one is better for your needs. How Long Should I Pressure Cook Food? When it comes to pressure cooking food, it's important to know the proper cooking times and safety precautions. Depending on what type of food you are cooking in your pressure cooker, you should adjust the time accordingly. For example, if you're cooking vegetables for a soup or stew, about five minutes is usually sufficient. But if you're making something like pork chops or chicken breasts, then it could take up to 15-20 minutes for them to be cooked through properly. And always make sure that you follow the instructions from your manufacturer when using a pressure cooker so that everything stays safe and secure! Can I Use A Pressure Cooker On An Induction Cooktop? Yes, you can use a pressure cooker on an induction cooktop! Just make sure to choose one with the right material and size. Pressure cooking times are shorter than traditional stovetop methods, so it's important to adjust your recipe accordingly. For example, if a recipe calls for 10 minutes of boiling time on a regular stove, you'll only need about five minutes in a pressure cooker. Are There Any Special Cleaning Instructions For A Pressure Cooker? When it comes to cleaning your pressure cooker, there are a few safety precautions you should take. First, be sure that the cooker is unplugged and cool before proceeding with any kind of cleaning. You'll also want to make sure all surfaces in contact with food are cleaned thoroughly with warm soapy water or an appropriate cleaner for stainless steel cookers. If necessary, use a soft-bristled brush to remove stubborn residues on the inside walls and bottom of the pot. Then rinse well and dry completely before storing away. Conclusion Yes, you can use Instant Pot recipes in a pressure cooker. However, it is important to keep in mind that the cooking times and settings may need to be adjusted for your specific pressure cooker model. Additionally, if you are using an induction cooktop with your pressure cooker, make sure to read the instructions carefully as some models cannot be used on this type of surface. Finally, donโ€™t forget to clean your pressure cooker regularly as per manufacturer instructions so it will last longer and perform optimally. All these tips will help ensure that you have delicious meals prepared quickly and safely! Fast cooking tips
First off, Iโ€™m basing this off of my own experience.ย  Iโ€™ve made dinner for my family for the past 10 years or so, and cook for my own breakfast and lunch options most days as well.
1) Dessert first.ย  If youโ€™re planning to have a dessert, plan on what you want and how you want it first.ย  99% of fast desserts amount to things likeย โ€œfruit, with some toppingโ€ orย โ€œprepared productโ€.
0 time: cookies,ย  parfait a likes (pudding / whipped cream / etc, crumbled something sweet like cookies / cake, fruit), ice cream (heat some nuts in butter, hot coffee, pre-prepared sauce, add a piece of cake / pie / cookies)
10 minutes: fruit crumble / crisp, fruit topped with pre-prepared biscuits or crust, pudding, chocolate melted with toppings and broken into a bark
20 - 30 : cake / pie
1 hour + cooling: sweet breads / rolls / flan
2) Plan your plan of attack.ย  Last night, I had 1/2 cup of leftover gravy, 3/4 of a cup of broth that was used to make the gravy and didnโ€™t go in, some chopped green chiles, and some grilled chicken from the other day.ย  I planned a tortilla soup (peppers, some tomatoes, the chicken, bake some tortilla strips,) and added some cheese cubes.
Other options with the same starter could be Thai curry (peppers, curry paste in the fridge, coconut milk, chicken.ย  Vastly improved by a veggie option and maybe some tofu for variety.)ย  The broth and the gravy could vanish into the curry for added flavor.
You could also easily do a pot pie with gravy / chicken / some sort of crust, but youโ€™d need to pre-cook the veggies to have them catch up with the cooked chicken.
3) What takes the longest?ย  Get a mental feel forย โ€œhalfway doneโ€ or time frames on food.ย  So, letโ€™s say youโ€™re doing a salad, a pot roast, and mashed potatoes.ย  Pot roast takes as long as it wants, but itโ€™s about 20 - 40 minutes in a pressure cooker, depending on how tough your meat is.ย  Potatoes take 30 minutes to boil on average, but you can check that the pot roast is tender before you put them on just to be safe.ย  Salad can be done in minutes.
Letโ€™s say youโ€™re doing a steak, baked potatoes, and spinach.ย  Steak is about 3 - 6 minutes a side, depending on grill heat and thickness.ย  Baked potatoes are 10 minutes in microwave + 10 minutes at 400 to crisp up, or 30 minutes in an oven depending on size.ย  Spinach is dependent on the type of greens, but can be almost instant or about 10 minutes.ย  Iโ€™d do the potatoes first, heat up the grill when theyโ€™re half done and make sure the spinach is either almost done, or ready to quickly cook before I put the steak on.ย  Ideally you want food thatโ€™s either you watching the stove, or itโ€™s all waiting for you while you step away to watch something else.
4) Do the long stuff with variable timing that can hold and wait first, then do the quick last minute stuff or things that need your attention.ย  Donโ€™t do a souffle and a steak on the grill and deep fried onion rings unless youโ€™ve got a helper.
5) For quick meals, try to use leftovers or prepared food to fill out one of the categories of the meal.ย  So, for example, use bread / pasta / rice, or leftover meat.ย  Try to add interest with texture (brown some cheese on top of bread to go with your soup or make a quesadilla / nachos etc.,) or color (brown gravy, hamburger, and potatoes will look better with anything that isnโ€™t brown, even if it all tastes good.)
6) The general rule for flavor is Sour / Salty / Sweet / Fat.ย  If something tastes bland, and youโ€™re pretty sure it has all the usual spicing at a sensible amount, try a touch of soy sauce, a little butter, a drop of honey / a squeeze of lime.ย  Even if youโ€™re rushing, try one of yourย โ€œadd flavorโ€ options to a bit of something that tastes bland to you.ย  You might discover a flavor you like.
