omg i loved the fic with luca and electrostimulation! could you make something a bit more spicy with the same electrostim? i’m really into it and would like to see more. thank you !
Even though i main the chipmunk i dont write him much lol so this short
Rated: Explicit | Warning: rope play, using electrical cords, electrical stimulation, oral (reader receiving)
It should be noted that sex with Luca, or making out with him, is a bit of an adventure. Especially when he gets so caught up, he accidentally shocks both you and himself. At first, it was funny and a bit painful, but over time, it became short of a challenge. Having a bit of fun seeing fast you can get him that worked up, along with it adding to the sensitivity that occasionally has cumming too soon— Which is hot, you like overstimulation with Luca.
So both of you started to see other ways this can work.
Explaining what rope play is or why you like being a robe bunny is very interesting. It is not as if you mind talking about or explaining it. You just were surprised Luca would get so invested in it to try it.
It took a lot of practice as you know how and what you like, Luca is a quick learner and catches on to what to do for the experience to be mutually beneficial.
Thus why instead of ropes, he is using the electrical cords. Cords around your torso and legs, you are curious as you are standing on the ground with a cord keeping you upright. You like how tight it feels on your naked skin, it's like a tight hug. Luca does one last check before stepping back and admiring it work with the same pride he gets when one of his inventions is a success— You give a smile as you know that look from admiration goes to desire.
“Ready?” His hand reaches out to the cord on your chest.
“Ready.” Excited for the thrill this is going to bring and sex right after— Oh, and aftercare Luca is getting better at.
The real fun for the decoder is seeing safely how the electricity dances across your skin, sparks arching off the cords, the way he can see you gasping, and trying not to squirm too much. Already get wet, you are starting to drip down your leg, you let out a high pitch squeal, then moan when his fingers slide up and down your lower lips. The grin he has when he gets on his knees, you look down at him with the corner of your bottom between your teeth.
Luca is cute. He isn’t sexy or has rugged handsomeness. He is cute, and you adore that physical quality about him. Even cuter when he is between your legs feasting on you like his last meal. A messy eater, God, you know this going to end soon with all electrical stimulus, the snug tightness of the cords, and him making it his only goal right now to have you cumming.

Super Elle Korea p2

💬 I look forward to what kind of record will be achieved (laughs). This year, it seems that you have practiced a lot of singing, what is the reason?
🥟: Although I also have the desire to do better, it is because I want to dedicate myself to this for a long time. To achieve this, everything must have a solid foundation, right? Writing songs, singing them and being on stage are the things I want to do most throughout my life. That's why I keep researching and learning.
💬 Despite that, when it comes to 'Hwang Hyunjin', people still expect more from the performative side. How do you feel about it? Would you like to show a different side?
🥟: Vocal and technique training is preparation for the future, but I think that, for now, it is right to focus on performance. I still have the desire to continue hearing that I do it well. Recently, I realized that this job really suits me because, as a K-pop artist, one can't help but receive constant feedback. Whether positive or critical, I accept it and use it as my driving force. Any stimulus, for me, is not a wound, but a nutrient

💬 It's a story that will reassure fans a lot when they hear it.
🥟: I am certain that I will be able to continue doing well in the future. Thanks to that, lately my insides have been very peaceful.
💬 Watching the personal vlog series 'Hyun.e's Holiday', you feel like you are trying hard to enjoy even the small pleasures of everyday life
🥟: Seriously, I know how to have fun alone! Of course, I like talking to or spending time with other people, but there are endless things I can do alone. Plus, I have a lot of hobbies.

💬 There may not be much time to be completely alone
🥟: Even so, I do it when I can. I used to think that happiness came by itself as long as I lived with effort. But now I feel like happiness is something I have to intentionally pursue. I believe that happiness is something that, if necessary, I must achieve by investing time, money and energy, and that is why I do not skimp on it. 'What will I do today? Will I watch a movie? Will I paint something? Will I practice what I learned in the last guitar class? Shall I go to the bookstore?'... Yesterday I bought a bunch of flowers at the flower shop
💬 Yesterday? Didn't they return home after finishing the concert? (laughs)
🥟: By chance I found a flower shop that sells rare species. I went there as soon as I arrived in Korea. I bought flowers, pots and a glass vase to place the flowers. Plus, the weather was nice, and I felt really happy

💬 If you find an exhibition, you said you always buy the catalog too. Of the catalogs you've accumulated so far, which ones do you consult most frequently?
🥟: The reason I buy the catalogs is to prevent the exhibitions from fading from my memory and also to try to replicate some works. My favorite is still Monet, but the one I check out most often is Egon Schiele. Although I prefer pretty paintings, I am curiously inclined to look at his. Someday, I would like to not only practice art like I do now, but actually create art
💬 What is the difference between '미술' (visual art) and '예술' (general art) according to Hyunjin?
🥟: Well, simply drawing because I like it is '미술' (visual art). But if I try to express my world and my intentions, that would be '예술' (art in general). I haven't told anyone I want to try it yet, nor have I tried to, but one day I would like to express what I have inside. Although I don't know if I'll have the courage to do it.

💬 What is the reason why you like Monet?
🥟: He is the pioneer of impressionism. When "Impression, Rising Sun" was first released, it received negative reviews. I think I am influenced by people who have the courage to start something new. Being able to paint something as you see it, even if it is actually gray but looks pink to your eyes. It's that feeling of "I want to be a person like that too." Since I lack courage, that kind of attempt in itself seems admirable to me.
💬 Do you feel like you are a person without courage/bravery?
🥟: Because you cannot be completely free from the gaze of others. Still, I'm gathering a lot of courage. Even at this moment!

💬 In the vlog, your swimming seemed familiar and comfortable. What emotions do you feel when you are in the water?
🥟: I usually use the noise cancellation feature a lot, you know? But when I enter the water, naturally there is no sound. I love that. It also helps me organize my thoughts, so at the beginning of my debut I even memorized lyrics while swimming. It gives me a feeling of escaping reality, and also improves my physical endurance. Like during a tour, swimming doesn't seem to have any problems
💬: There are many mechanisms or things that make you think 'if I do this, I will definitely be happy!'
🥟: That's right. That is the driving force of my life

Why Do I Behave This Way ? - Psychology Answers
Note: we are finally to start another topic, this time with why do I behave this way. for this section we will go through the following questions: “Why Can't I Focus?”, “I Am Getting Old, Why Do I Keep Wanting Things?” “Usually I Am Well Behaved.. So Why Did I Lost My Temper?” “Why Do I Lie To People When They Ask Me Something?” “I Have Phobias: wWhat Can I Do?” “Last Week I Did Something Dangerous.. Why?” “Why Do I Keep Watching The Same Shows’” “Why Do I Embarrass Myself In Front Of Important People?"
“Why Can't I Focus?”
What happens in the unconscious brain:
Everyone knows what attention is but few really knows how it works
In psychology, attention refers to the cognitive process of selectively concentrating on a discrete aspect of information, whether considered subjective or objective, while ignoring other perceivable information.
There’s several types of attention such as: sustained, selective, divided and alternating.
The information received from our senses passes through the brain's processing system, but is weakened so that it can pass through the system at an unconscious level
Which is the reason we are able to do things without fully paying attention to it or through mechanical actions. Yet our subconscious is still able to visualize the entire information, it just processes it to keep the most important information.
For example in some cases of Autism Spectrum Disorder, their brain/subconscious is unable to filter the information which makes them sensitive to stimulus and more aware of their environment.
To resume it all, our attention is a dynamic and competitive system. During the processing of information, our attention amplifies some information while inhibiting others.
To the question, why can't I focus, can have several answers. Anxiety and other psychological disorders or symptoms can have an impact on the brain processing system, but the most common known impact is screen time
The problem with screen time, such as phones or laptops or tv, it's the fact that they put all the things that attract attention together in a practical package, and add some addictive brain chemicals for fun.
One can be more sensitive when looking through a phone. you are receiving a text and your brain’s attention focuses on that. After the text, you will see other notifications and this process is proven to have the same effect than opiates drugs have.
Of course the process of focusing can also have other origins and will depend on your health and your environmental factors around you.
If you are interested in more of these topics you can check the works of Broadbent, Cherry, Skinner, Treisman and Helmholtz as they have the best insight on attention and perception theories in psychology and neurology.
So what can we do?
The first thing we can do is try to understand why it is causing us to lose focus. Is it the screen time? Is it an underlying medical condition? Is it your emotions? are there any other bio-environmental factors? by pointing out what is causing the trouble, we can start working on it
We humans, we possess a limited quantity of attention and thus it's important to try and care for it the best we can
Some solutions can be used to try and regain focus on your everyday tasks such as: limiting screen time, using a reward recompense system with your causes of losing focus, setting boundaries and limits to when and where to use screen time, helo through medication and/or therapy depending on each one case
You can also re-learn to stay focus. For that you can start doing simple activities like: studying (without screen time), reading, practicing yoga or meditation, playing board games or doing cognitive exercises specialized in attention.
Now, you know where to work to become a better version of yourself

hello wonderful witch-vampire-being, tis me again with another question :) is every single one of the 'last chance' listings Absolutely Positively being retired, or are they just at high risk of it and if they get enough orders they might be kept in circulation? asking because a lot of the last chance joggers are ones I've been eyeing for a While but i'm unsure if budgeting will allow me to grab all of them since the universe has yet to pay out my '$10k for adhd bisexuality' stimulus check. hoping you get yours soon xoxo
Short answer: They're all at high risk of retiring, so these preorders are the last guaranteed chance to have access to those designs in all sizes. Long answer: There's like 4 different possible scenarios for any last chance design, so lemme break those down here.
Specific *only* to Jealous Flame Skaters and Midis: I want to redo the art on them so they match better with the other flame skirts (jealous flame was designed first and all the other ones came along later, so I feel like jealous flame could use some sprucing up at this point). Those two are last chance in the sense that if you like them how they look now, this is the last chance to order them that way. Afterwards they'll be gone for a while until I can finish & release the updated version.
Demand is high and the design lives to see another day: In the case that demand is actually still pretty high, I'll keep the design around rather than retire it. For example, I had Astrology Skaters and Ouija Skaters as last chance preorders before. Ouija had a strong resurgence in popularity so it survived. Astrology did not. It's not about hitting a specific number threshhold, but more about performance compared to other designs. Right now for this round, the top 3 that might survive are Red & White Spider Lily Midis, Agony Joggers, and Apathy Joggers. I need to cut designs to make room for new stuff, so I don't think I'll rescue more 2 or 3 last chance designs at most and I'm gonna be pretty ruthless in my decisions. To give an idea of how it's going so far- if preorders ended today I'd only consider saving Red & White Spider Lily Midis.
The design will retire after preorders, but I'll order extras to have one last ready-to-ship drop after fulfillment is done: For any designs that have enough preorders to be at or near the order minimum with my manu, I'll of course be ordering at least the minimum and possibly a few extras. Any I order beyond what I need for preorder fulfillment will be released ready-to-ship. BUT please know that if I don't get any preorders in a specific size (usually this effects D Size, but it could be any size) I won't order extras of them because it would mean having to order at least the order minimum with my manu and likely leave me stuck with a bunch of that size for quite a while. After extras sell, the design will retire.
The design will retire after preorders, and it also won't have a final ready-to-ship drop (or it will have one but of like 1 or 2 pieces only in certain sizes): Scenario A) Designs that haven't received any preorders will fall into this category (right now there's two of them: Checkerboard Joggers and Passion's Flame Joggers). If I don't have any preorders to fulfill I won't order any more of the design. I'll dig through all my storage and mix bins of random straggler clothes to see if there's any remaining somewhere and release those ready-to-ship. After those sell, if there were any to sell, the design will immediately retire. Scenario B) Designs that only get a few preorders, I can work with my manu to order them like "samples" to not need to order a bunch extra to hit the order minimums. I won't order more than what are needed to fulfill preorders so there won't be extras to release besides any random strays still around somewhere. The list of designs currently in this category is really long, so I'm just gonna insert a screenshot here (the negative numbers are how many preorders have come in for that design):

If at any point anyone has questions about a specific design/size, feel free to ask and I'll let you know if it's looking like it will have ready-to-ship extras later on or if these preorders are the Absolute Last Chance to get one.

breaking the creative dry spell with elaborating on blorbos shit awful ethics again 💜💜💜

also this is just one of my fave shots of him. freshly lobotomized, covered in blood, deeply pissed off. great all around time i just wish it wasnt directed at my favorite intellect devourer 💔
anyways. content warning for descriptions of sadism and torture
this guy is a pain freak! to no ones surprise but im making you all check this shit out anyways. it rarely comes up in discussion because i USUALLY talk about how dirge bounces off of other named characters, with whom he has the greatest range of interesting interactions, and most of those interactions dissuade his sadism by virtue of him Giving A Shit but god the lobotomy did NOT fix that particular hobby of his at ALL
ill start with the fun ones first. dirge classed into warlock pre tadpoling, and specifically was a great old one warlock, meaning hes been practicing psionics for a VERY long time. and god does he love that shit. years of managing the Urge and careful studious dedication to death cult religious doctrine forged his will into quenched steel, and being on the receiving end of any of his psionics really makes you fucking feel it. dirge absolutely DELIGHTS in the experience of subjecting someone to his domination because he enjoys the panicked wriggling feeling of someone trying to flee but realizing theres nowhere to go because hes carving a path into their head. his patron itself is a star and, deriving his powers from it, his psionics themselves carry the sensation of irrepresible unavoidable crushing gravity. his willpower quite literally squeezes you until you start cracking open. another tactic hes fond of, and one he used to dominate the elder brain, is to compress the entirety of his willpower through psionics into a single point smaller than a needle, and then watching it puncture clean through a victims mental defenses like they arent even there. when hes torturing for pleasure, and not business, he makes a point of encircling their mental defenses and then steadily increasing the strain he places on them from all sides so he can watch the cracks start forming, and then breaks their will in one clean snap before digging through their mind for choice tidbits of information. whatevers leftover when hes done scavenging usually isnt enough to rebuild someones psyche from the sheer psychic trauma, which is all well and good because he typically doesnt let them live after anyways.
the lobotomy took out most of that particular skillset but a combination of practicing on absolutists (he uses illithid domination often enough to get the True Soul tag before even leaving the emerald grove) and tadpole skills has him getting back into the general swing of it
physically he enjoys the sensation of pain QUITE a lot. hes very sensory seeking and pain as a stimulus is "loud" enough to block out most other senses if its severe enough, so he enjoys it as stress relief. he also quite enjoys inflicting novel forms of agony onto other people. when he isnt playing nice and acceptable around people he cares about, dirge has a very strong cruel streak. if he gets the chance to indulge it at all, itll typically be with the last surviving member of an attacking enemy group, with the rest having been used to satiate his impulsive craving for gore and destruction. he particularly savors forms of emotional torment, bolstered by his sharp insight and overwhelming charisma. pre tadpole he did hobbyist vivisections to pass the time between his duties, and while thats fallen off post tadpoling, he still enjoys many of the skills and what they can inflict upon people. when dirge decides to indulge himself, he can get downright hedonistic about it, and his sadism streak is one of the clearest examples, drawing out a short stint of combat into a long, excrutiating death. he savors being the catalyst of suffering and treasures the experience of the myriad ways an individual can respond to torment. in particular he favors methods that draw blood or burn as the smell of bloodletting or charred flesh are particularly satisfying to him, but he does find enjoyment in being in close enough proximity to smell the way stress and fear affects the scent of their sweat. he enjoys flaying skin and carving open bodily cavities to expose organs to light and air, he enjoys carefully severing tendons and muscle groups just to watch someone in a panic try to flee anyways, and while he isnt super hype about raw bone marrow he DOES find the experience of cracking small joints to be particularly satisfying. dirge rarely goes for anything on the face because he wants to see the expressions they make, and only starts damaging that area when hes close to done playing with someone.
he enjoys when people try to beg, or plead, or bargain, because he takes small petty pleasure in exercising that kind of power over someone, just to deny them and bluntly inform them that this only ends when he feels like it, and driving home that state of utter helplessness. if hes feeling particularly understimulated, he'll force his way into a victims mind just to cram himself into their sensory perception so he gets front row seats for the agony he inflicts and his victims subsequent emotional response. he'll also do this if someones feeling clammy or stoic and not producing the kind of visible reactions hes hunting for, and he WILL freely transition to psionic torture if physical methods arent cutting it. he rarely, if ever, has to do the reverse because a combination of Urge-born madness and god ensconcing willpower typically means a victim isnt capable of meaningfully surviving it, allowing dirge to freely set the pace for whatever sensation hes hunting for
poison for dirge is more like a torture seasoning than a full meal in itself. its like a fun like extra spice sprinkled in for his enjoyment. he has a fondness for paralytics and neurotoxins, but still retains a healthy admiration for blood cell destroying animal venoms. conotoxins are a quickfire way to learn a lot of upsetting biology really quickly as you find out, in detail, exactly what a cone snail can do to your body and how fast itll happen, and if your really unlucky this will be a hands on learning experience.
if hes ever upset something traumatic happened to a companion, its rarely about what happened and more about it happening to someone he cares about. dirge is typically very upfront about this aspect of his personality, and fairly consistently behaves morally worse when people like karlach and wyll arent around to implicitly encourage him away from it, but WILL engage in petty self serving sadism when its a target he feels will garner no objections (cazador has an Extremely Fucking Bad Time) or he feels its a small enough infraction to go unremarked on (minor annoyances and irritation WILL manifest as deliberately non lethal attacks meant solely to inflict pain). a general willingness to capitulate to the requests of loved ones, even if they arent physically present (dirge abstains from being an ass to the tiefling refugees even when karlach and wyll are at camp) and a habit of avoiding rocking the boat (dirge typically only needs to be told off once or twice about his bad habits before he takes the lesson) means that despite being very openly sadistic, he rarely pushes the people hes around into being uncomfortable with him, and everyone else has to sit there and weigh their moral code against a loved one who can, will, and often has literally gone to hell and back for them for no other reason than they asked him to do so.
fun times! what a guy
#dirgeposting#jaheira literally takes what she can get with this guy. you gotta lower your standards and meet him where hes at#and rn her standards are ''dont do it in front of me or my kids'' to which dirge says ''👌👍''#it helps he has a soft spot for kids because he doesnt have all that catholic guilt about thinking he deserved child abuse anymore#the tadfools rly lucked out on getting the worlds most people pleasing serial killer fr

Letters from Watson The Missing Three Quarter it is today. After this story I'm completely caught up again with these letters. Very happy about that :)
Even the most insignificant problem would be welcome in these stagnant days.” Be careful what you wish for, Holmes
For years I had gradually weaned him from that drug mania which had threatened once to check his remarkable career. Now I knew that under ordinary conditions he no longer craved for this artificial stimulus, but I was well aware that the fiend was not dead, but sleeping; and I have known that the sleep was a light one and the waking near when in periods of idleness I have seen the drawn look upon Holmes's ascetic face, and the brooding of his deep-set and inscrutable eyes. Ok nevermind, give this man all the cases he wants and needs. These stories really get very real about mental health struggles and the ever-slumbering fight that is addiction. It's really quite beautifully and sympathetically written and cuts right to the heart
that dangerous calm which brought more peril to my friend than all the storms of his tempestuous life. I feel like this is a good reminder that needs are so different person by person. A lot of mental health advice and resources are about helping one calm down, relax, while for some that's really the opposite of what they need. It's the same for me. My natural state is to be calm, tending to tired and sluggish and almost empty. And I can function in that state but barely. I need regular external stimulation to pull me out of that, need to do something with my hands, something that stimulates my brain and gives me energy to actually live my life
sixteen stone of solid bone and muscle *calculates how heavy that is* Just a little over 100kg. Not at all what I would consider enormous, but then everage height was lower back then so I guess he'd be stockier
“It's awful, Mr. Holmes, simply awful! I wonder my hair isn't grey. They really were fond of overnight grey hair transformations back then, weren't they?
Godfrey Staunton—you've heard of him, of course? He's simply the hinge that the whole team turns on. I'd rather spare two from the pack and have Godfrey for my three-quarter line. Took me a while to remember this was about rugby. So, a missing rugby player then. Could be interesing! Everything from kidnapping to murder to runaway to disorientation is on the table
Good Lord! Mr. Holmes, where have you lived?” Holmes laughed at the young giant's naive astonishment. “You live in a different world to me, Mr. Overton, a sweeter and healthier one. My ramifications stretch out into many sections of society, but never, I am happy to say, into amateur sport, which is the best and soundest thing in England. However, your unexpected visit this morning shows me that even in that world of fresh air and fair play there may be work for me to do This is so funny, and also kind of wholesome? Holmes is very amused that Overton assumes he knows anything about sports, but also doesn't tear Overton's passion for sports down, just points out that it's not his area yet still wants to help him
Half an hour later the porter tells me that a rough-looking man with a beard called with a note for Godfrey. He had not gone to bed and the note was taken to his room. Godfrey read it and fell back in a chair as if he had been pole-axed. The porter was so scared that he was going to fetch me, but Godfrey stopped him, had a drink of water, and pulled himself together. Then he went downstairs, said a few words to the man who was waiting in the hall, and the two of them went off together. This sends off all kind of alarm bells
So Godfrey was already anxious, received a note that made it worse, and then went off with someone without telling or taking anything. This gives major blackmail vibes
The visitor of the night before was not a gentleman, neither was he a working man. He was simply what the porter described as a “medium-looking chap”; a man of fifty, beard grizzled, pale face, quietly dressed. He seemed himself to be agitated. The porter had observed his hand trembling when he had held out the note. This rough-looking man might be innocent, then
“We have only to find to whom that telegram is addressed,” I suggested. “Exactly, my dear Watson. "My dear Watson" will always make me smile :)
here is so much red tape in these matters! However, I have no doubt that with a little delicacy and finesse the end may be attained. I'm excited for some clever tricks and manipulation!
“One moment! one moment!” cried a querulous voice, and we looked up to find a queer little old man, jerking and twitching in the doorway. Do we have Overton's uncle here?
As to those papers with which you are making so free, I may tell you that in case there should be anything of any value among them you will be held strictly to account for what you do with them.” “Very good, sir,” said Sherlock Holmes. “May I ask in the meanwhile whether you have yourself any theory to account for this young man's disappearance?” Holmes is very much not impressed by this man's antics. I love how he just blandly agrees with him, which is the first rule of deescalation. Great way to keep him cooperative
“I quite understand your position,” said Holmes, with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. “Perhaps you don't quite understand mine. Oh! Trouble for this sir!
Godfrey Staunton appears to have been a poor man. If he has been kidnapped it could not have been for anything which he himself possesses. The fame of your wealth has gone abroad, Lord Mount-James, and it is entirely possible that a gang of thieves have secured your nephew in order to gain from him some information as to your house, your habits, and your treasure.” Some clever manipulation going on here. Holmes already has deduced that this lord doesn't care at all about his nephew's well-being, so an appeal to help out of concern about his nephew's safety would accomplice nothing. If Holmes twists it into a threat to his riches, however...
Nothing would induce him to give his old uncle away. Awfully confident considering he never did anything for Staunton. Of course Holmes doesn't really think that the possible kidnappers are after information about the lord, but if they are, I guess they don't need torture
In the meantime spare no pains, Mr. Detective! I beg you to leave no stone unturned to bring him safely back. As to money, well, so far as a fiver, or even a tenner, goes, you can always look to me.” Goal accomplished!
I am sorry to trouble you,” said he, in his blandest manner, to the young woman behind the grating; “there is some small mistake about a telegram I sent yesterday. I have had no answer, and I very much fear that I must have omitted to put my name at the end. Could you tell me if this was so?” Yes! I guess that will work
that exceedingly unpleasant old person I just love Holmes' insults. They sound so polite and therefore somehow hit harder
“I have heard your name, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, and I am aware of your profession, one of which I by no means approve.” “In that, doctor, you will find yourself in agreement with every criminal in the country,” said my friend, quietly. Solid burn from Holmes
Where your calling is more open to criticism is when you pry into the secrets of private individuals, when you rake up family matters which are better hidden, and when you incidentally waste the time of men who are more busy than yourself. Someone feels threatened!
Incidentally I may tell you that we are doing the reverse of what you very justly blame, and that we are endeavouring to prevent anything like public exposure of private matters which must necessarily follow when once the case is fairly in the hands of the official police. You may look upon me simply as an irregular pioneer who goes in front of the regular forces of the country. Is Holmes trying to protect Staunton here? If this case becomes public, I guess that would set off a lot of speculation about the player's fate, which - however unfairly - would harm his reputation
“I have no sympathy with these childish games. The young man's fate interests me deeply, since I know him and like him. The football match does not come within my horizon at all.” You cannot care deeply about Staunton and at the same time completely disregard his greatest passion, doctor. I don't like this man
Holmes replaced the bill in his note-book. “If you prefer a public explanation it must come sooner or later,” said he. “I have already told you that I can hush up that which others will be bound to publish, and you would really be wiser to take me into your complete confidence.” Really unwise to try to lie to Holmes
Dear me, dear me; the post-office again!” Holmes sighed, wearily. “A most urgent telegram was dispatched to you from London by Godfrey Staunton at six-fifteen yesterday evening—a telegram which is undoubtedly associated with his disappearance—and yet you have not had it. It is most culpable. I shall certainly go down to the office here and register a complaint.” Such a dramatic delivery. A+
Dr. Leslie Armstrong sprang up from behind his desk, and his dark face was crimson with fury. “I'll trouble you to walk out of my house, sir,” said he. Totally the villain of this story. My for-now theory is that this doctor is blackmailing Staunton, threatening to reveal medical information if Staunton doesn't pay him more. Not sure how the other 'victim' fit into this
“I have not seen a man who, if he turned his talents that way, was more calculated to fill the gap left by the illustrious Moriarty. Holmes is getting major villain vibes as well, then. Wonder how this will end
And now, my poor Watson, here we are, stranded and friendless in this inhospitable town, which we cannot leave without abandoning our case. This little inn just opposite Armstrong's house is singularly adapted to our needs. If you would engage a front room and purchase the necessaries for the night, I may have time to make a few inquiries.” Oh, the intimacy of it all
These few inquiries proved, however, to be a more lengthy proceeding than Holmes had imagined, for he did not return to the inn until nearly nine o'clock. He was pale and dejected, stained with dust, and exhausted with hunger and fatigue. A cold supper was ready upon the table, and when his needs were satisfied and his pipe alight he was ready to take that half comic and wholly philosophic view which was natural to him when his affairs were going awry. Good on Holmes for eating!
The sound of carriage wheels caused him to rise and glance out of the window. A brougham and pair of greys under the glare of a gas-lamp stood before the doctor's door. “It's been out three hours,” said Holmes; “started at half-past six, and here it is back again. That gives a radius of ten or twelve miles, and he does it once, or sometimes twice, a day.” The doctor himself is the one that is holding Staunton captive? I had not expected that
I do not know whether it came from his own innate depravity or from the promptings of his master, but he was rude enough to set a dog at me. Neither dog nor man liked the look of my stick, however, and the matter fell through. Relations were strained after that I bet they were. The image of Holmes wielding a stick as a weapon is very amusing to me
“Could you not follow it?” “Excellent, Watson! You are scintillating this evening. I have trouble reading Holmes' tone here. Not sure if this is sarcastic or not? I suspect it is - damn, Holmes, Watson is only trying to engage in your narrative. Have some patience
We had got well out on the country road when a somewhat mortifying incident occurred. The carriage stopped, the doctor alighted, walked swiftly back to where I had also halted, and told me in an excellent sardonic fashion that he feared the road was narrow, and that he hoped his carriage did not impede the passage of my bicycle. Now that is scary
Meanwhile, I can inform you that no spying upon me can in any way help Mr. Godfrey Staunton, and I am convinced that the best service you can do to that gentleman is to return at once to London and to report to your employer that you are unable to trace him. You underestimate Holmes' stubbornness, doctor. Curious to know how they will go on from here
I think that possibly I can attain our end by some independent explorations of my own. I am afraid that I must leave you to your own devices, as the appearance of two inquiring strangers upon a sleepy countryside might excite more gossip than I care for. Holmes, will you please be careful when you go out trampling off on your own?! This doctor will not hestitate to make you dissapear, too
“No, no, my dear fellow, there is no cause for alarm. It is not upon this occasion the instrument of evil, but it will rather prove to be the key which will unlock our mystery. On this syringe I base all my hopes. Oh well, now I am puzzled. It is a sedative? Then this might get dark
When you have finished come downstairs with me, and I will introduce you to a detective who is a very eminent specialist in the work that lies before us.” A dog that can sniff out the trail? Just a wild guess
When we descended I followed Holmes into the stable yard, where he opened the door of a loose-box and led out a squat, lop-eared, white-and-tan dog, something between a beagle and a foxhound. A dog it is!
Well, Pompey, you may not be fast, but I expect you will be too fast for a couple of middle-aged London gentlemen, so I will take the liberty of fastening this leather leash to your collar. Now, boy, come along, and show what you can do Very cute :)
“A threadbare and venerable device, but useful upon occasion. I walked into the doctor's yard this morning and shot my syringe full of aniseed over the hind wheel. Ah! Not what I thought at all, lol
And, by Jove! here is the brougham coming round the corner. Quick, Watson, quick, or we are done!” Love the amount of action happening in this story
My friend knocked at the little rustic door, and knocked again without response. And yet the cottage was not deserted, for a low sound came to our ears—a kind of drone of misery and despair, which was indescribably melancholy. Very scared now for Staunton
At the foot of the bed, half sitting, half kneeling, his face buried in the clothes, was a young man, whose frame was racked by his sobs. So absorbed was he by his bitter grief that he never looked up until Holmes's hand was on his shoulder. “Are you Mr. Godfrey Staunton?” “Yes, yes; I am—but you are too late. She is dead.” Those medical bills were for this woman, then, who I assume was Staunton's sweetheart? I wonder what the doctor's role in this was. Certainly nothing good
If, as I imagine, there is no breach of the law in this matter, you can absolutely depend upon my discretion and my co-operation in keeping the facts out of the papers.” Dr. Armstrong took a quick step forward and wrung Holmes by the hand. “You are a good fellow,” said he. “I had misjudged you. And so did I misjudge the doctor. What a twist. Doyle had me entirely on the wrong foot
She was as good as she was beautiful, and as intelligent as she was good. No man need be ashamed of such a wife. But Godfrey was the heir to this crabbed old nobleman, and it was quite certain that the news of his marriage would have been the end of his inheritance. All this secrecy and tragedy for the sake of inherentence? That is just sad. Was the problem then that this girl was low class? And marriage with her would be enough to exclude Staunton from the will? I will never understand financial law
I did not tell him how urgent the danger was, for I knew that he could do no good here, but I sent the truth to the girl's father, and he very injudiciously communicated it to Godfrey. So the other man Staunton went with was the girl's father? Last mystery explained!
Oof. That was quite a read, a lot of plot and excitement in such a short story. I guess it was Holmes' words about kidnapping, and Anderson's very suspicious and threatening behaviour that sets the reader entirely on the wrong foot. But not liking someone is of course not the same as actual wrongdoing. Quite a masterpiece from Doyle

I have received a fairly unkind message I am not dignifying with a public response, but I do want to address the topic in general, because it's the most recent in a series of messages.
When I was in a better financial place I gave to fundraisers whenever I could. Healthcare and housing and moving and pet surgeries, national and international disasters, gofundmes and PayPals and instacarts and Amazon wishlists...a lot of different things. I never had a ton but I gave what I could when I could.
I can't anymore. And nobody is more upset about that than me. Especially with all the horrible things going on right now.
While I have alluded to some of what's going on in my life I haven't been explicit about how exactly things have changed for me, and that is on me. But ultimately, my circumstances are nothing like what they were before Covid. I don't have the energy emotional or physical to go into details right now. The concise version is I do not have spare money anymore.
I don't have spare money to buy some of the basic things that would make my own life better like consistently buying vitamins or supplements or the OTC pain meds that help most or ready made sandwiches so I can eat when I cannot prepare food. I last bought new underwear with the first stimulus check money back in 2020 and if I buy shampoo it means I had to take something off my grocery list. I am not saying this to complain or demand sympathy and I am absolutely not asking anyone for anything, but I want to give context.
I really and truly cannot donate to fundraisers right now. I didn't suddenly decide that I don't care about trans people or sick dogs or homeless children or people surviving a genocide; I just...cannot give money right now. My great hope is that things will get better for me but right now they are very absolutely not decent let alone good.
I haven't been sharing the fundraisers either, for several reasons that come off as complicated or selfish when I say them out loud. But mostly right now I don't have the energy to commit to anything much at all. And maybe that makes me as horrible as some people have suggested. Idk.
In a perfect world I would have so much disposable income I could help everyone who asked me or everyone who needs it. It's not a perfect world.
I'm sorry; please be kind to people wherever possible.
#sorry for whining#Christi babbles#if I could help I would be#please do not be cruel to people who cannot help the way you want them to

CAS December part 2
Activity
One of the most significant personal accomplishments in my fitness journey in the past two weeks has been that I managed to perform 10 no-weight pull-ups. I can definitely say that this was one of those achievements that required a lot of dedication and consistency.
Every single repetition I made was a challenge conquered, and it was not only the muscles that benefitted from it but also my confidence. The latter served as a stimulus for the former, and my self-esteem and muscle strength were transcended by it.
However, the idea of doing weighted pull-ups has already come to my mind. This sounds like I want to challenge myself and enhance my workout. I want to see how I can expand it, and that too, is an exciting pursuit.
Creativity
At first playing with a metronome felt really annoying. I struggled to keep in time and became tense from the continuous ticking sounds that it made. Still, after some consistant work, I am gradually getting used to its rhythm. I'm learning to use the beat as a guide to maintain constant timing instead of feeling pressure from it.
This improvement has allowed me to play some slower tunes more naturally. Seeing the improvement is incredibly rewarding, and I am beginning to appreciate the structure the metronome offers. Although I still have a lot of work ahead of me, this encounter has helped me to understand the need of discipline and patience in mastering an instrument. I look forward to the improvements I will be able to make in the future and the potential pieces that I might take on too.
Service
This week when I volunteered at the animal shelter and received a really active dog, named Max, to walk. Even though the snow covered the ground, it didn't prevent him from running around. The air was clear, and the snow was crunchy under the feet wherein Max pulled at his leash, wanting to check every corner of the path. It was not easy to keep up with his pace, but I changed my approach, redirecting his excitement into a rhythmic manner. This experience unveiled to me the values of patience and confidence. Max's happiness as he frolicked over the snow was a good reminder to me that even a simple act, like a stroll, may light up an animal's day. I was really proud that I had made a positive impact on his life and that also enhanced my respect for the pulp-empowerment that shield dogs give to the world.

I find that one of the most upsetting, broadly insulting parts about this is that the CDC announced this four years to the day after the first COVID-19 case was announced in NYC (x). At the time, our authorities were doing their part to tell the public not to panic and to let that patient stay isolated. But while they were fully aware that NYC is a massive hub of human bodies and millions commute in and out of it every day, they were also saying at the time that the risk of COVID-19 becoming a public health threat in NYC was low. Famous last words, much? We had no idea how contagious it would be.
While it’s stunning to see how far we’ve come since then - what with the rapid production of vaccines and protective face masks and hand sanitizer, the focus on hand-washing for 20 seconds for everybody, etc., it’s also hubris on a flabbergasting level to drop all federal rules about isolation. Yes, we have gotten much better at treating it and yes, the virus isn’t killing people on the scale it used to, but it’s still killing half a 9/11 a week in the country and it’s only gotten better at evading our immune systems. We are still in a pandemic. The virus has left millions of Americans with lifelong disabilities and it will continue to disable more. The fact that the CDC tells us the virus is now in an endemic state and it’s just something we’re all just going to have to live with is not only insulting, it’s infuriating. And oh btw, no more quarantining isolating; just play it by ear and get back to work as fast as you can to support an economy that won’t support you - just to add icing on the cake.
Like the disabled communities have been decrying for years, we have been abandoned by our government and left to the wind to fend for ourselves. It was already mortifying to see the CDC’s tweets get hacked on Twitter during the worst of the pandemic and then see whoever was supposed to be running their account scramble back to a semblance of normalcy. It has been disheartening ever since to see them actively erode the trust and faith that the public should be able to have in them.
We badly fought a war against a virus and very badly lost. The CDC removing all notion of quarantining is not only outright denial the virus is still dangerous, it’s proof that they don’t care, or no longer want to. (It’s also cowardice and giving up in the face of knowing some people are just not going to heed their advice at all.) Vigilance is exhausting, but Long COVID is debilitating, and regular COVID can still kill you. I don’t want to be in a pandemic; I want the politicians I helped to vote in to take care of us and the pillars of our society to be regularly maintained, not collapse at a moment’s notice after years of neglect and being left to wither and crumble. Our faith in our federal-level healthcare officials should not be so easily blown away like the seeds off of a dandelion in the summertime.
I don’t have a concrete answer for action. What am I supposed to do, vote harder? Run for office myself? At best perhaps I could unionize my workplace. My state already created a law that forces workplaces to allow employees to accrue sick time, but at my job it’s so agonizingly slow to accrue even one day’s worth. Should I write an angry letter? What would writing an angry letter do? Perhaps I think in too polite terms and limit my imagination. I don’t wish to make like the French and storm the bastille if I don’t have to and I am definitely not qualified to run for office. But these systems are arbitrary and can be changed, and doing nothing is not going to stop this. I want those precautionary 14 days of quarantine back and stimulus checks to help me live my life God forbid I lose all ability to work (not to mention we should all be receiving them and universal health care by default anyway, regardless of employment). I also really liked it when New York mandated that employers couldn’t retaliate on employees for going to get their COVID-19 vaccines. Public health is a public concern, what a concept, and I would sure like to see the CDC and our government in general fucking act like it.
I have nothing but bad news for y'all
We were supposed to have until April to leave comments, but the cdc has officially ended the 5 day isolation period as of today, March 1st, 2024.
They're saying as long as it's been 24hrs and your symptoms are improving, you're good.
Nothing about covid has changed. Medical professionals are obviously slamming this decision. All this does is make it even more difficult to avoid long covid, because now workers will have to fight for sick days and time off they already barely have just to fucking heal from an organ damaging virus.
Idk what to say for this one.
#i am so tired#no one deserves to see their home run by ghouls#there is no nobility in suffering#the cdc#COVID-19#self quarantine#self isolation#quarantine#2024 mood#were still in a pandemic#current events#capitalism at its finest

Master Class in Ruthlessness
COVID-19 Pandemic Edition: Do you have what it takes to be a ruthless landlord in Alabama?

Photo by Morning Brew on Unsplash
It's Just Business
Covid-19 rages across the nation, destroying jobs, damaging lives and even killing thousands. But you are about to be a landlord in Alabama; these facts don't apply to landlords in Alabama. The law is on your side...but are you on your side? Laws can't protect the weak! Take this quiz to see if you have the heart of a ruthless Alabama landlord.
1. It’s May 1st 2020 and a few of your tenants have not paid rent. They just have some sob story about losing their job as a waitress, a car salesperson and a chef. You call your lawyer who is on speed dial and she advises you that evictions will not be enforced until June 1st, 2020 due to a Proclamation by Governor Ivey. Do you?
a. Begin your unlawful eviction process anyway, proclaiming “I am the law!!”
b. File an eviction with the court and then countdown until June 1st to rush the court while harassing your tenants every step of the way and sometimes even your lawyer.
c. Compassionately work out a plan so that on June 1st you do not have to follow through with an eviction because it would be just horrible if thousands or even millions roamed the streets unhoused while a contagious virus spreads like wildfire.
2. You overheard somewhere about something in the Federal CARES Act protecting tenants who live in federally backed mortgages until July 25, 2020. Do you?
a. Think… ‘interesting’ and forget that you in fact have a mortgage that is federally backed and then proceed with eviction not realizing that it will be a futile endeavor.
b. Seek federal assistance, hide this information from your tenants and harass them until they leave. “I’m not passing on any favors!”
c. Disclose this valuable information to your grateful and relieved tenants. Then work out a plan so that on July 25, 2020 there is no need to proceed with eviction.
3. You have a tenant who is an elderly woman who is behind on her rent due to a mix up on her social security benefits. Due to the pandemic, it is difficult for her to reach anyone. Do you?
a. Feel victimized. This was supposed to be your retirement income. How will your travel fund ever grow? At this rate you’ll never make it to Italy.
b. Refuse to do necessary maintenance on her unit.
c. Show empathy since we are in the midst of a pandemic. You are well-known in the area and you have a lawyer. Perhaps these tools can be utilized to help her get connected.
4. Your tenant has congestive heart failure now owes $1550 in back rent. Do you?
a. Become consumed with worry about the economic future of your family and yourself.
b. Send a rude letter stating that rent is due and threaten immediate eviction.
c. Work with tenants who are especially vulnerable to the pandemic and look for outside resources to refer them to. Landlords are powerful in Alabama, so you can use your power to vouch for your tenants to overwhelmed non-profits who appreciate your input.
5. On what date did the Governor's Proclamation begin, which protected tenants from the enforcement of an eviction?
a. What Proclamation? Do you mean the date my letter states that my tenants will be evicted?
b. Doesn’t matter, I already have my order in place.
c. Order became effective 5p.m., Saturday on April 4th, 2020.
6. How many cases of Covid-19 has Alabama added on July 9, 2020?
a. Covid-19 doesn’t exist; it’s a hoax.
b. It’s only bad in New York, probably less than 100.
c. 1,304 cases were added on July 9, 2020 and deaths rose by 35.
7. After being furloughed as a flight attendant, your tenant Ruthie is stressed, hungry and limited on funds, which bill or cost should she prioritize first?
a. Credit Cards
b. Food
c. My Rent!
8. Why won’t your tenant pay rent?
a. Your tenants are withholding their stimulus check.
b. Your tenants received generous unemployment benefits but are too irresponsible to pay rent.
c. They lost their job due to the shelter-in-place order and the stimulus from the federal government haven’t arrived. In addition the unemployment office is too backlogged to process their claim.
9. When you read the Proclamation by Governor Ivey concerning evictions, what was the main message you gathered?
a. I can still file for an eviction.
b. Rent is due.
c. “All state, county and local law enforcement officers are hereby by directed to cease enforcement of any order that would result in the displacement of a person from his or her place of residence.”
10. It’s July 4th, what do you think of when you go to the Kroger grocery store and see steak?
a. You don’t see the steak. You ruminate over that one tenant who was too savvy to succumb to your self-help eviction. One day you’ll get them...out...one day...
b. You think, “They can have their rent for free and that’s nice but I can't go over to Kroger and start buying a steak and say oh by the way put it on the tab when this things over I’ll pay you as soon as my tenants pay.”
c. Happy, can’t wait to get this on the grill.
Results:
Mostly A's and B's: Excellent! You have what it takes to be a landlord in Alabama even if you have to pry that check from their cold, dead and Covid-19 riddled hands.
Mostly C's: Why did you even take the quiz? I'm surprise you didn't start weeping at the thought of collecting rent. Landlords in Alabama collect rent no matter what! Take your compassion and move on! Compassion can't pay for that Kroger steak!

Contracted Work for the Writer ~ this is how it's done
I am very pleased with how all of my books are doing, how they've been received, and most of the reviews and endorsements that have come in for them. I do notice that I can tell which books were published by publishing companies and which books were published independently by me through Amazon, because I don't have access to a publicity team, so it's much harder to gather reviews, and these books just don't get the same exposure that the other books get.
I've been quite amused at some of the comments that have come in for a couple of these books: Green Witchcraft Grimoire: A Practical Resource for Making Your Own Spells, Rituals, & Recipes and The Essential Guide to Wicca for Beginners. These books were contracted work. This means that I was approached by a publishing company that already had an outline for a book, a very specific outline, down to the word count for each section, and I was offered this project for contract. Once I accepted this project, the contract was received and signed, and it's very clear what's expected from you and when.
This type of work is very hard and fast. It's on a very tight schedule and it's a marathon writing project. This also includes a rigid publicity schedule for the author 4 to 6 weeks before the book is released and four to six weeks after its release. This schedule, an actual schedule, comes with pre-planned release posts that are either a "fill in your book title", or suggestions for what they want done that day, such as "make a video", or "do an author-copies received" post, etc. You get the picture. This publicity work is all included in your contract and it comprises part of the work you do for the pay that you receive.
The contents for each section of the book are created entirely by the author who was contracted for the work. There's also a lot of editing done with your editor, a couple zoom or skype meetings, a couple telephone conferences, and a back and forth editing process with our beloved Microsoft Word. It's a process, and it's a meticulous process. The company wants this book to be as pristine as possible for it's world debut.
All in all, I enjoyed my experience, and the paycheck for this type of work is excellent, although the author does not retain rights to the manuscript. Once you write this contracted book and send it off for production, it is no longer your property and you will not receive any royalties from future sales. It's a one-time payment for your work deal, and it can actually be quite substantial and a much better deal than waiting years for small amounts of royalties to roll in.
If you don't like to work under pressure, or under deadlines, you may not like this kind of experience. It was grueling at times, but it also taught me that I can get a LOT more done than I thought I could.
Also, with contracted work, the publishing company doesn't act as most employers do, where they withhold taxes for you and all that usual good stuff that goes with the business end of a paycheck. You are responsible for paying the taxes on the money received for this work, and it can be substantial, depending on your perspective and your project. This was a big drawback for me. The year I had to claim this work, the taxes were paid on this income by the government simply claiming my $1400.00 stimulus check. Which sucked, but at least it was paid.
What I found amusing was a couple of quirky reviewers that didn't like some of the spells included in these books: "I'll bet she just wrote these spells up and never tried them out."... Well, ya, some of these spells I did just that using my own spiritual practices and experience, and with a deadline for the material snapping at my heels. But there were a lot of spells that I have personally worked and these spells and rituals were included in these books as well, coming from 40-some years of experience. There's probably over a hundred+ spells and rituals between these two books.
The only aspect of this type of work that I had negative feelings for were:
1) coming up with 40 or 50 people for potential reviews and endorsements, including emails, and this was a required task... this just didn't seem like my job. I felt like I was doing someone else's job for them. I don't know if this is standard procedure, and I suppose it might be, but coming up with those names was very stressful, and then publishing a second book the same year, well, you can only ask so much of people. I didn't' want to contact the same people twice. And it might not seem like it, with all of the social media pages I have up, blogs and websites, YouTube channels, etc., but I'm actually a very reclusive introverted person in real life. I don't interact with more than a small handful of people on the internet, so this task was much harder for me than what you may think.
2) also, I didn't like a new stipulation coming up in the process, where I was asked to make screen shots of the stats for my websites and blogs, giving a report on my traffic, etc. I thought this was slightly bizarre and way out of line. And no, I didn't do this, I passed on the project I was being offered. This was too invasive for me, considering I'd already published two books with this company. This also did not feel like my job, it's my opinion that there's a sales analyst or someone else out there who should be doing this stuff.
Anyway, for writers out there, either published authors or those who are still working towards this goal, here you have it. This is one way to get published and to support yourself as a writer at the same time.

Cash App Payment Pending- Step-by-Step Guide to Fix It?
In the fast-paced world of digital payments, Cash App has gained immense popularity for its simplicity and convenience. Cash App is designed to make transactions a breeze, whether you're sending money to a friend, paying for goods and services, or even waiting for a stimulus check. However, you may encounter the dreaded "Cash App Payment Pending" status like any financial app. If you've ever wondered why your payment is stuck in limbo and how to resolve it, you're in the right place. This comprehensive guide will explore the causes of Cash App payment pending issues and provide step-by-step solutions to get your money moving.
What Does "Cash App Payment Pending" Mean?
When your payment on Cash App is marked as "Pending," it essentially means that the transaction is in a processing state. Your funds have not yet been deducted from your account, and the recipient has not received the money. This status can be frustrating, especially if you must complete a time-sensitive transaction or simply want peace of mind knowing that your payment has gone through.
Reasons for Cash App Payment Pending
Insufficient Funds: One of the most common reasons for a pending payment is having insufficient funds in your Cash App account or linked bank card. Make sure you have a sufficient balance to cover the transaction.

HMsEx Blog Entry 4
HMsEx Blog Entry 4
At the beginning of Week 4 I set up a plan using Microsoft office planner; I’ll use this to set short-term and long-term goals and check them off once complete.
I was quite happy with my pitch. I’ve never had a course with two lecturers before but I’ve been really enjoying the disagreements on some topics or experiences that Nik and Darrin comment on. The feedback I received was great, hearing Darrin’s opinion on the skateboarding psychology idea possibly being too informative or information driven. In that moment I totally understood, it was a risk I thought of beforehand as well. Then, Nik’s feedback telling me that using a narrative to drive the experience would be a good base for the information to sit on, and nicely maintain engagement. Very useful stuff that’s given me a lot to think about, thanks guys.

Fear Extinction
A fundamental process within the realm of psychology and neuroscience that involves the gradual weakening and suppression of a conditioned fear response. This phenomenon occurs when an individual is repeatedly exposed to a previously fear-inducing stimulus in a safe and controlled environment, leading to a reduction in the fear response over time. The process of fear extinction is closely linked to the brain's ability to form new associations and rewire neural circuits, facilitating the gradual replacement of fear-related memories with more adaptive and less distressing ones. Understanding fear extinction has significant implications for treating anxiety disorders and trauma-related conditions, offering insights into therapeutic approaches aimed at diminishing irrational and debilitating fears.
What I’m concerned with is how one diminishes rational and reasonable fears; does it involve more than typical fear extinction?
Self – Affirmation Interventions
Positive Self-Affirmation Statements: Individuals create and repeat positive affirmations about themselves and their abilities to counteract negative self-perceptions.
Visual Reminders: Watching yourself do a trick on flat ground and thinking about the feeling of landing that trick is a method used for mentally preparing yourself to do that trick down something big/scary (Collins)
Self-Affirmation Exercises: Personal favourite, if I’m about to do a trick on some obstacle or terrain I’m not entirely comfortable with I’ll do it on flat ground as clean as I can, directly before my run up for the obstacle; this gives me an umph and a reassurance.
Social Affirmation Statements: Seeking and appreciating positive feedback and validation from friends, family, or mentors (Sherman & Cohen 2006). I can confirm that there have been a number of times where I’ve been greatly motivated by skaters superior to me and have landed tricks that I otherwise wouldn’t have attempted. In Suzhou, where I started skateboarding, there was this one OG (mid 30s skater) who is the owner of a skateshop and skatepark. He always told me that he thinks I’m on the right track to getting sponsored, and as I know how skilful of a skater he is and can only imagine how good he was in his prime, I really valued his words. He always let me in his skatepark for free. When we’d go out together at night for a street session with other shop/park homies, his presence and instruction motivated me like nothing ever has before. He’d see some wack obstacle that the whole group would’ve just walked past and say “Yo, jump down that.” In a very chill manner. So, I’d get up sceptically and think like “damn I don’t know about this” but for him and the homies I had the confidence to at least give it a shot. Social affirmation statements, verbal or not, have lead me to do some of my best skating.
“The first couple techniques Collins mentioned are things that skateboarders already do, like working up from easy to progressively more difficult tricks, or getting positive affirmations from friends. Collins also agreed that taking a slam could be a good way to get over your nerves. “You might call it the Dr. Pepper argument. Like, what’s the worst that can happen?” he said, referring to a slogan Dr. Pepper uses in the UK.” ( NOTENS & COLE KOMMA)
What is a “Liminal Space”?
Streets are commonly regarded as “liminal spaces” as seen through edits on social media.
I didn’t truly understand the meaning of the word I’ve been using to describe places that give me this exhilaration. On social media the way “liminal spaces” in speak never explains what makes these spaces liminal or even what the word liminal means; we’ve just put a title on a place that gives us a feeling.
Both these definitions are relevant:
“1 occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold: I was in the liminal space between past and present | the paintings in this exhibition are the result of recent investigation into liminal states.
2 relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process: that liminal period when a child is old enough to begin following basic rules but is still too young to do so consistently.”
(Oxford Dictionary of English).
The Street as a Liminal Space – (Hugh Matthews 2002)
Matthews observed that time spent on the streets was an important part of the day for much of youth is. The word street is broad, it can mean “out and about”, outside of the home or a friend’s home.
For many kids the street is the only place where they can meet informally; unlike adults who have clubs, pubs, residences, etc.
“As such, streets are places where adultist conventions and moralities about what it is to be a child that is, less-than-adult - can be put aside. They are spaces that are temporarily outside of adult society, particularly with the withdrawal of adults at particular times of the day (Sibley 1995), fluid domains or a thirdspace set between childhood and adulthood, where the process of separation can be played out (Matthews et al. 2000c). Within these interstitial spaces young people can express feelings of belonging and of being apart and celebrate a developing sense of selfhood. In essence, therefore, streets can be grouped among those places where the newness of hybrid identities, no longer a child not yet adult, may be articulated (Rose 1995).”
(Next paragraph not crucial but interesting potential way of understanding why some people may consider some spaces liminal where others wont)
“Yet here is a cultural dilemma, for whilst streets appear to offer freedom away from adult mores, occupancy of the public domain is rarely uncontested, particularly when young people come into contact with vigilant adults who are not prepared to relinquish their overarching control. In order to remain on the street, therefore, young people carve out their own cultural crevices, and create their own social fissures. Often these are places where adults are not commonly found: in this study children regularly congregated in back alleys, on derelict land, around lock-up garages, at the rear of shopping parades, in pockets of green space within neighbouring scrub woodland, in essence, within the forgotten and redundant spaces of the adult world.” (Mathews 2002)
Now if we refer back to Liminal’s oxford definitions earlier we see through Matthews’ reasoning that neighbourhood streets are inherently liminal.
Research - Creative Practice
Definition of the Liminal space aesthetic:
Schyguyy’s videos are exemplars of what I call Liminal Exhilaration. His most recent video really hit me with how I must look when I’m walking home at night and staring up at starry skies or dim street lights. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv0C7EBNi0F/
Look at his face. This is how I imagine I look when starring up at nothingness. It’s this somewhat voluntary (I wouldn’t say deliberate) relaxing of your face muscles which often feels mindless, thoughtless and consumed by the simplest sensory stimuli like an infant.
Here are some comments. They wrap up what I feel for his work quite well. This kind of exhilaration is not the type that makes you say “oh my god” in excitement; it’s better enjoyed through feeling rather than comprehension.
In the eternal seas of narrative or “meaning”-rich content we’re drowned with today, one can stand up and realise that the understandable is merely a pool we’re addictively submerged in.
In a citadel, high above the slums sits aristocrats who find beauty only in the glisten and shine of gemstones; comfortable in the instant gratification palace of their own incarceration, they will never come down and appreciate the beauty in what wasn’t made to be beautiful.
Although very woke, the above is how I feel about a lot of content on social media and its viewers who’re stuck in the scroll.

The Use of Color in Liminal Spaces – Shookey
Shookey’s Youtube video on his methods of determining what makes a space “liminal”.
“Liminal Spaces are art. No matter what the medium may be. Because of this, artists will make efforts to frame or shape said mediums to make them actually feel Liminal.” (Shookey 2021)
Monochromatic Colour
Always having a clear standout colour can make an image that looks real feel fake or unnatural.
Contrast (Between colours, shapes, or light)
Red outside this laundry room gives the feeling of danger. This is a literal contrast from the relatively normally lit and coloured inside, to the outside which looks as though it may be day time but with an unnatural red haze. The only time this would be visible in reality is supposedly during a dust storm, however, he say’s that in liminal space imagery this could be something much worse.
He says the lighting outside has either been altered or naturally balanced with the inside, so the contrast is not with inside-outside light but with the blue and purple. Purple gives feelings mystery and the unnatural.
Washed
This method is likely most useful for my project and the type of liminal spaces I want to display.
These examples have all been the uncanny side of “liminal spaces” that I still have to classify as “liminal” because of the fact that they play around the boundary of the real and the surreal. The above image is bizarre in how there is almost nothing visible other than this exit sign. The exit sign points to the fog but staying on the same path leads to fog as well; other than that, the exit sign is strangely lacking in information, no distance, no name, just exit and an arrow. This type of contrast is between the clear and unclear, ironically making the clear subject very unclear in a figurative sense. This technique could be very useful in controlling the viewers focus, hopefully in a way that can add nostalgia. Even though the exit sign’s meaning isn’t clear, the creator has utilized a very recognizable and understandable object to be the subject; I too will pick out objects that our brain has strong existing neural pathways to. However, my choices will not merely be recognizable objects amongst a bleak background (because almost everything today we see we have seen before) but objects shapes or environments that many people have attributed memory to.
I want to be able to make the viewer feel like they’ve seen this before, like they’re getting back part of a memory.
The type of liminal spaces I want to film are empty locations of our childhood (like streets as proven earlier) described as having an elegiac aura. Because video creators refer to this aura as particularly saddening, I will chose spaces that have general relation to childhood or adolescence but aren’t obvious; this way I hope to evoke that feeling of familiarity, to provide comfort, but not the eeriness of seeing your childhood memories in such empty lifeless states.
Exhilarating Project 1 - Skate fear edit
Just been thinking about how I might film this. I want the video to have this interesting 2d platform to it. It’s obviously 3D but the camera keeps the subject in the centre of the frame and at the same angle, requiring the camera to move exactly as the subject does.
Exhilarating Project 2 – Liminal Exhilaration
Exhilarating Project 3 - Upside-Down People
Still discussing.

The human mind was not developed to be able to receive constant stimulus 24/7, 7 days a week. It leads to intense burnout, depression, and anxiety. In this reblog I’ll be recommending some technologies and apps to help you make technology work for you, rather than be the victim of an algorithm.
RSS Feeds
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and it is a standard for distributing content across the Internet. Some of you older readers may be more familiar with it, and while its usage has waned it’s still alive and kicking. It gives you total control over what you see and when, and you can even have some pretty fine-toothed organization depending on your RSS readers.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of RSS feeds that are freely available. Here is the RSS feed for WithTheWill. Almost every webforum is simultaneously an RSS feed. Here is a website you can use to easily find RSS feeds of websites you may be unsure about. It also works for Tumblr, all podcasts (which are also simultaneously RSS feeds), every Youtube channel, and really just try every website you care about, it cannot hurt. Here is a website that creates bridges to add RSS support to websites without it. For anything without an RSS feed, you can use this website to make them into an RSS feed. You can even turn newsletters into RSS feeds here. Now, you have all these RSS feeds, but how to view them? There are TONS of options. Personally, I would recommend you to do some research and find what works for you, but for me:
For Mac/iOS I recommend NewsNetWire. For Android I recommend Twine. For Desktops I recommend checking AlternativeTo and deciding for yourself. There's simply too many to list, especially if Open Source is not a prerogative for you. You can also receive RSS feeds via email with services like FeedRabbit. Especially useful if you want to reference said articles in your professional email/dedicated hobby emails.
Limiting Screen Time
Now that you have taken control of how you consume data, you must now, ideally, limit the amount of time spent on the algorithmic apps. There are many apps that can limit your access (though none seem to fit the bill 100%), and some may not even need those apps and find it easy enough to walk away, but I would like for you to deeply consider such steps.
Find Physical Hobbies
Now that you are, ideally, less connected to the Internet and your devices, it would be a perfect time to pick up a hobby. Maybe painting, drawing, reading, walking, whatever suits your fancy. Know that you don't always need to be productive in your ventures, and sometimes just spending half an hour browsing Tumblr may be a good way to unwind, but spending too much time on any one thing is never healthy.
You know, one thing about getting older, at least for me, is the realization that keeping up that whimsical spirit is hard. Very hard.
I have spent the past four years trying to maintain routines in regards to self-care and, while it worked out well for a period of time, the "noise" out there is very persistent to break your habits. By "noise", I don't just mean the world out there, the constant stream of social media providing you with news and tragedies, a ruthless algorithm that is very hard to avoid if you're seeking that little serotonin streak out there. Yes, I agree that our attention spans have been pretty much messed up and that it's VERY difficult to get back to some... Quiet.
That's why the noise basically refers to everything - your social life, family, friends, partners, acquaintances, colleagues, all the people out there, but also the things you surround yourself with. Habits, food choices and sleeping rhythms, once again, the media you consume while trying not get consumed by it...
I keep going on about how I had re-started drawing back in 2021 after a rough 10-year-break in which I simply didn't feel like drawing at all. I was occupied with other things during time - and if you're familiar with my tumblr, you know that that's been heavily related to football. I loved my clubs, I loved by NT and for the longest time, I could get by despite the set-backs and bad developments surrounding it. Right now I am staring at my PC and am slowly but steadily realizing that basically all the players that led me towards football have retired. Either just from the NT or completely. There are players, relatable figures, people I (used to) look up to, that inspired me, that brought be through the day, week, month, year. It was a fun time. But then the "noise" took over. The people I rambled with ended up just as frustrated and left. Only a few of them are left, but the majority - me included - has moved on to other things. Why? Because it had become too draining, too negative. The bubble had popped, several figures in the business had turned out to be unbelievably "bad people" (I'll keep this PG), things were so commercialized, unfamiliar and just... Opportunistic. The "whimsical spirit" was so hard to maintain and even if this Summer provided a little spark, it still feels alienating. There is still a glimpse of hope, but, again, you REALLY have to hold onto that.
The same goes for my other "fandoms" to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I still have fun sitting in my little corner and draw, write and create little things - even if it's mostly for myself, sometimes I do wonder why interactions have become so scarce. The atmosphere on social media is incredibly... Empty sometimes. I'm not just saying that because a lot of people have not grasped the reblogging system on this site. You may have heard the concept of people being overexposed by the neverending stream of art, "content" being thrown at them from all sides... It's become more of a product to consume than a thing to look at and enjoy and savour. And I feel that myself. I used to save fanart to my phone and computer and find myself looking at it countless times. I still do that with several art pieces, but... I assume it's because the brain has become somewhat tired that we cannot appreciate it like we used to.
Everything is just... Happening too fast and I feel like I need to have a detox every now and then. My brain still craves the serotonin of seeing new, beautiful art. But to get there, I have to get through a sea of things that get me anxious. Even with filters, even with blocking things I don't wanna see... It's not the same.
The same also applies to media in general - I'm currently in a fandom of a series that's kinda "walking on air". There is the possibility of a new animation being planned out there somewhere, somewhen, maybe... But a part of me isn't even sure if I want something "new". Consider myself "old" when I say this, but a lot of things that come out these days, sequels, reboots, remakes of things I used to enjoy as a kid... Simply don't hit the same way anymore. There's a reason why I find myself rewatching the old stuff over and over again and often have quite a mixed relationship with more recent things. EVA is one of the few franchises that, in my opinion, managed to get to a satisfying ending after ALL these years, but I am TERRIFIED for the new Madoka movie. I haven't even dared to look at Sailor Moon Cosmos, simply because I know my brain is tainted by how much enjoyed the 90s anime and how much of a clusterf*ck Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos has been for the past ten years... On the same note, do we really need a One Piece remake? And Digimon? I would loathe the idea of an Adventure remake... Because it would not only contradict the messages of the previous entries of the series; move on but keep the things you love close to you... It would simply not... Satisfy me. A part of me wants to see how the OG timeline goes on, but what if there'll be things to contradict it all even more? Do I want things to go on for the sake of keeping the nostalgia alive, even though the fear of mischaracterizations is very real? Do I really want the milking of the cash-cow to continue? To hunt for breadcrumbs? The commercialisation and... Opportunism? And why does it feel like I've heard that before...?
I don't want to end this post on a negative note. I'm gonna turn 34 in a few weeks, I've been into TV shows and had my hyperfocus topics basically since I was like 7 or so. I might always find things that keep the whimsical spirit alive to some degree. But I need to remind myself to not let the "noise" get too loud every once in a while.
