Something I really want to emphasize by the way about how exciting tonight's announcements are? It's not just that we're getting blu-ray releases of V3 and Kikaider; which is exciting on its own. It's also that we're getting brand new subs of them to go with it, and from a company whose quality has been proven time and time again!

While I love V3 and Kikaider, and while I appreciate the sheer passion and work Generation Kikaida put into those releases in a time where Tokusatsu in the west was a gaping canyon; the subs they put out were... rough. Extremely subpar, pretty stiff translations, at times having straight up errors in important places (Kikaider's 'Denji End' finisher was translated as 'The End') and missing lines or mistiming subs. It was amazing to see these released at the time and they are such a hallmark in Tokusatsu history, but they have not aged well.

We're not just looking at the cool prospect of owning these series on blu-ray for the first time in the west, with wider availability and better prices than before; but these shows getting a much much MUCH needed and deserved update to their english subtitles. This is a fantastic time to be a fan of V3 and Kikaider

made the mistake of starting a fun little fanfic with a funny little premise that I swiftly put too much thought and world-building into and the ending has spiraled out of my control to the point that I had to sit down and do MORE world-building and planning to figure out how I'm going to tie up the massive plot threads I suddenly found myself holding when all I wanted to do was make my blorbos kiss

I do have gripes with the term "pro-ship" though but not for the same reasons a lot of people do. there's a reason why even though I tag things with pro-ship as well (as it's the more popular term), I refer to my viewpoints as "pro-fiction" out of what I consider a necessity for the term to keep evolving.

I'll probably write more on this on neocities later but my gripe is that "pro-ship" has been treated as the endgame term when it's not the first and should NOT be the last. the conversation has been growing and changing (and not in a good way) and the popular terms people use to communicate to others that they are safe to interact with in fandom have changed over the years.

we had "pro-pewey" and "pro-sheith" back in 2015 because that was the Big Ticket Discourse that year. "pro-sheith" morphed into "pro-shaladin" because the fire spread from just attacking Sheith shippers to anyone shipping any "Shaladin" ship. "Anti-anti" also started cropping up around this time because some people were in both fandoms. But in that same year we also had the Osomatsu-san reboot, which spawned the anti-blmatsu discourse, so we had pro-blmatsu and even more people identifying as anti-anti because they were in multiple fandoms with this brand of discourse.

After that, yes, this caught on to more and more and more fandoms and ships, to the point where pro-ship became a necessary term to use if you wanted to include all these things in all these fandoms, regardless of whether you were in them or not.

but the game has NOT stopped changing since then. People aren't being harassed only for ships. Eventually it got to the point where you can't like Beastars, or Attack on Titan, or Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss. One of the first cases of entire fandoms being targeted was Killing Stalking. And it's not stopping there, either. Now entire authors are off limits. The Boyfriends webcomic is "problematic" but now so is anything else its author makes. You have teen and young adult boys on Tiktok complaining that women are reading Ali Hazelwood and Penelope Douglas and anything else they decry as "porn".

I could go on but it would take forever to list every direction the discourse has spread. This evolved from "shipping drama" a loooooooong fucking time ago. I truly do not believe "pro-ship" is enough and that we need to rebrand again to pro-fiction (or even something else that describes the position even more adequately, if possible) to account for the way the conversation has changed.

I may or may not be planning to post something special for the Planet Robobot anniversary next month… 👀 I missed all the March Kirby anniversaries since I’ve been doing some time sensitive stuff for my dissertation this month and I’ve also been applying to jobs to (hopefully) get something lined up for after I get my PhD, but since the Robobot anniversary is like a month away I might be able to have a little something done for it… 👀

Hi Nonny! I’ll try to keep this brief, as I’m not looking to step on anyone’s toes. It's various small moments for me, but it started in Episode 3, where Charlie complains when Vaggie stumbles when they introduce their 'trust exercises' segment, then puts her on the spot to lead the lesson for the day, which clearly was not discussed beforehand. Episode 7 was where I fully disconnected — Charlie vents to Alastor about why Vaggie wouldn't tell her of her past as an Exorcist, which came off a bit entitled to me? Then, she hesitates when Rosie asks if she loves her. Vaggie often feels expected to support Charlie unconditionally, & for me, that doesn't seem to be returned fully? IDK... I preferred their dynamic in the pilot — it felt sweeter & more balanced /shrug

Guys, I have to admit something. You may think less of me because of it and I understand if you leave, but felt it best to be upfront with it than not.

I...was in the Hetalia fandom. I know a tragedy. It's been years since I moved on. I was really in the fandom during 2015/2016, which dwindled in 2017. I wrote and read fics for that fandom, drew fanart that I never posted online and never will, and made ocs. I've become a better person since then, but I cannot say that present me wouldn't be where I am today without it. I cosplayed one character from the show, Iceland and had casually worn his fit to school. I wasn't a part of that side of the fandom, I didn't even know about it until years later.

I have since grown to know that the show is extremely problematic and harmful and have since distanced myself from it and the fandom. I thank the it for the few short-term friends I had made through it and the Wattpad dms, but I will continue to bash the show if ever brought up in conversation.

For those who read all of this, thank you. Also, this is meant to be a joke. I feel that fandoms people were a part of when they were kids don't define a person for who they are today or even a fandom someone was in over 5 years ago. Like I was a fan of Blood Lad in that same time period, thought it was so cool; My partner and I watched it this year and it was funny, but in a 'it's so bad it's funny' way. People grow and they change. I'm not the same person I was 2 years ago, much less 5.
