Hey! I love AToC and have been following its development for a few years now. But whenever a new chapter was released, and I sat down to read it, I often found it hard to carve out time to do so. So, it got me thinking - if it’s hard for me to read it consistently, how much more difficult must it be to write it consistently? It is admirable the act of writing this takes, And while I’m sure there are slower periods in the whole process, it’s inspirational how you dedicate time to writing. I write sometimes, definitely not a lot, and I want to dabble in a few short stories. So, how do you put in that time or really cultivate that habit of writing - especially when pesky "IRL logistics" get in the way? Are there any specific rituals or routines that help overcome such circumstantial challenges? I’ve been in a bit of a rut with the pen lately, and honestly, hearing anything - whether it’s how you approach sitting down to write or just your thoughts on the process - would be incredibly helpful at best and, at the very least, really interesting to hear! Appreciate you sharing your thoughts if you’re able :p
I take an ice bath, chug 6 cans of energy drink back to back, sit down and white knuckle my desk while yelling "LOCK IN" and write 10k words in one hour-

And honestly it's just a matter of forming the habit, at least for me. I try to write at the same time every day. For me that's in the evenings since I'm more productive at night, but other people might feel more productive in the morning or the afternoon, it all depends! Once it becomes a habit it's much easier to switch your brain to Writing Mode around the same time every day.
When you first start trying to form the habit, don't be down on yourself if you don't get a lot of writing done at first. Try to write things that pique your interest, even if the scenes or snippets aren't in chronological order. Getting something on the page is what's most important!
Also, don't be too hard on yourself while writing, and try not to edit while you write either. This is a bad habit I used to have that I had to unlearn because of my perfectionism, but it's perfectly fine to have a bare bones first draft that you can return to filling out later. Your first draft is not supposed to be perfect, so just focus on writing it first, and evaluating it later.
And write what you feel inspired to write! Like, sometimes I can't be bothered to write out descriptions or character actions, but I get inspired to write a certain conversation between characters, so I literally skip all the descriptive words and only write out the dialogue. Other times I feel inspired by worldbuilding that I want to add, or an environment that I really want to describe, so I write snippets for that, etc.
I also like setting wordcount goals for myself because I get a dopamine boost when I hit the target and it feels like I accomplished something. If you go that route, start out small! Like 250 words every day for example, and as you get into it, bump it up little by little. It also feels good if you go over your wordcount goal, at least for me.
Some other minor things that have helped me: putting on background music (ymmv), removing all potential distractions by closing everything on my pc and fullscreening my writing program, ensuring I have a place where I can write uninterrupted, drinking my favorite tea, motivating myself with rewards for once I hit my wordcount goal (snacks/video games/watching a show).

Historical Traits Pack: A Mini Mod for The Sims 4
Hey! This time I made some traits to use in historical gameplay. When I was playing my Decades Challenge I really needed more trait options for my sims, since most of the traits that the game offers are more "modern".
Also, all my mods are still compatible with the latest update :)
I only have two final exams left so I finally had some time to revise and release this mod :)

How does the mod work?
To add a trait to your sim, click on them and on the Actions menu, where you'll find this option:
It will open a page to choose one or more traits:
You can add as many as you want, since they are gameplay traits (I made them this way so that they don't take up space from CAS traits, which are more focused on personality). If you wish to remove them, shift+click on the sim, click on "Cheat Sim Info" and "Remove Traits", I recommend that you filter by Gameplay Traits so it takes you less time to find it.
Every trait has a few custom interactions, including a Support Group for widows and the opportunity to do some charity work for the fallen, in the Travel category (Phone). They all have custom moodlets too!
Finally, they all have skill boosts; for example, a Vintage Dreamer will gain the Handiness or Fabrication skills faster, among others. Relationship gain is also affected (War Widows will develop romantic relationships more slowly, etc.).

hope you don't mind this ask. but what are your favorite pc mods to use for the Mass Effect games?
oh man, there's so many... all my mods for sure ;)

but in all seriousness, here's a list. this isn't an install order nor does it list all requirements for mods, but it does have all the mods I can't live without or have used before and enjoy. read mod descriptions closely, watch for compatibility sections, and you'll be fine. I won't really mention cosmetics beyond listing some devs (including myself, to be transparent) who focus on that kind of thing, because this list will get even longer and cosmetics tend to be more on a case-by-case basis. I also won't list texture mods because I don't use them.
this is also not exhaustive and I will definitely forget some lol. browse nexus, there's definitely lots of things I probably looked over/missed.
also, do not use synth's guide, period. it's now unsupported and I'm tired of troubleshooting it on the main modding server.
LE1
LE1 Community Patch - Necessary for any playthrough.
Same-Gender Romances for LE1 - Makes Kaidan and Ashley available for same gendered Sheps, also functions as an optional flirting mod of sorts.
MELLO - Restores dynamic lighting for LE, makes the game closer to how it looks to OT.
Alliance Uniform Consistency - If you're like me and prefer ME3's Alliance uniform style, this mod backports them to LE1.

A while back I bought Littlewood on my PC but I didn't really connect with it. I recently rebought it on Switch and now it's one of my favorite games. The key: the ideal way to play this game is lying on a couch or in bed where you're trying to turn into moss. It's got a rich incredibly kind story, and a bunch of tasks to fulfill to improve the town, but it's also by far one of the chillest games I've ever played. It makes Stardew Valley seen intense. And yet I can play two hours of it and it feels like 10 because I'm so engaged.
Movement stick or arrows, A,B, and rarely Y are the only keys used. There is absolutely no time pressure. It's effectively turn based. You can run around, talk to people, buy stuff, sell stuff, rearrange the town, decorate the houses, etc. as much as you like with no time crunch. Gathering and materials processing take energy and when your energy gets low it becomes night. You can teleport home at any time. If your out of energy outside your bed, you simply have a bad night's sleep and have less energy the next day. It will tell you when you've hit your max limit and one more thing will put you over, so it's very hard to miss it's time to stop.
There is no combat (yet?). You avoid enemies or they'll knock you out and you'll wake up at the entrance to the area with the area you were in locked. You can still go to other areas to continue playing though. And these aren't hard enemies per say, you just have to stay out of the way and if you pay attention that's generally easy to do. You WERE the hero that saved the day. Now you've lost your memory and retired.
There's a coffee shop and every morning you can get a free donut or hot beverage that gives you a harvesting skill boosts. So every morning I talk to the villagers, choose who to hang out with, compliment them, and get my tastey treat. There's very little skill involved (slight timing thing on fishing, but not a mini game.) The inventory is all neatly arranged for you and easy to find things. There's extensive information about how to unlock things. The game gives you lots of hints and advice. All townsfolk are dateable, with the exception of Dudley.
You're incentivized to decorate the villagers' houses to their basic taste but have a lot of free reign. You can rearrange everything freely including raising and lowering terrain. Certain villagers want to live near certain buildings, but that's the only constraint. If you remove something like a crop, you get the materials back to place it elsewhere. You really can't get yourself into trouble.
It would be a great game for a little kid. It's also a great game as a disabled adult with chronic pain and fatigue who likes to play low impact video games while watching TTRPG actual plays. Your attention can drift as much as you like and it will be there waiting when you come back.
I play a lot of Stardew Valley with my boyfriend and love it. It's a very chill game. But the time crunch element can be overwhelming and too intense some times. By eliminating that and putting up a bunch more guard rails, Littlewood is an equally engaging village sim, but way way calmer. Sitting upright in a chair with a mouse and keyboard didn't do the experience justice. Full veg mode from the couch does.

Ive been playing Star Wars: Racer. Yeah, the n64 game. It has a switch port. Pretty fun. The main loop in the tournament mode is upgrading and repairing your vehicle so you can perform in the more high end races.
Anyway: Street racer Shera au. Catra races to prove she's the best, she tries to repair her own car. Scorpia records *every* race and has a flag saying "best driving cat xoxo :)" on it with a picture of Catra as a cat. Catra hates it.
One day Glimmer shows up with a porsche and beats Catra after a neck and neck race, Catra is so mad she recruits the help of her very off-the-books engineer friend Entrapta who she has never let touch her precious Subaru before. Entrapta says Catra's repeated patchwork jobs have fucked up the car, which hurts Catra's pride, but within three days the thing is repaired and modded with lighter wheels, removed furniture, and an ungodly turbo boost, also she puts refined kerosine in a secondary tank, don't ask.
Anyway Catra and Glimmer, who has also begged her boyfriend to design cute little decal faces for her car, pull up ready to start their rematch, when suddenly an enormous pink limo comes out and blocks the racing path. Out of the car steps Angella, who had weaselled the truth out of Bow, who stands next to her ashamed.
Everyone watches in bewilderment as this tense race gets interrupted by a teenager and her mother yelling at each other about how this ALWAYS happens and she is SO grounded and she only has a learner's insurance for the car anyway so why is she driving alone in the first place.
Okay, so first of all you just unlocked several childhood memories lol. When TPM came out I got super into it and had this awful dorky padawan obi-wan costume from like target that I wore the apprentice braid from until it fell to pieces and played TPM tie in computer game non-stop. So my parents were like, “Huh, neat.” And got us Star Wars: Racer but for the PC (Episode I: Racer? It had a different name I think but that cover art instantly took me back). Anyhow me and my sister took turns playing it and when she convinced me to prank call someone for the first time ever (something she’d also never done) we dialed a random number and just held the phone to the speakers while the game was playing.
The lady called back and left a stern voicemail about prank calls that shamed us so much we actually stopped playing the game afterwards 😂

I actually like the idea that Catra does basic work on the car decently, but she can probably install mods with some issues and run ins. I wouldn’t trust a street racer who can’t do some work on their own car! (I say having known a small handful of them actually lol, my hometown is notorious for street racing and even my brother in law used to get in on the act) That said, I can see her being one of those people who mis-installs a fancier system of some kind. Like, the new fly wheel works great but Catra fucked up the new muffler system and didn’t realize it because it happened because of something else in the system, ya know? Entrapta would still 100% tell her she fucked up her car because Entrapta is sensitive to the feelings of the vehicles. Catra does not understand what the fuck that means but she’s not gonna ask when Entrapta somehow supercharged her turbo and put in experimental wheels and axels that are light but strong. Catra was excited when she replaced the hood and trunk with carbon because the car was so much lighter and better afterwards. This is that times twelve! Catra swears off self repairs because she literally can’t make heads of tails of it anymore, and also Entrapta wants to.
Glimmer absolutely bought her way into the sport, but it’s her hard work that got her to be a street racer. She used to go to the track and at first just did straight shot races, mostly against herself. She took Bow in it once, and his face was frozen between pure joy and pure terror under the helmet he was forced to wear and borrow by the racetrack. Angella didn’t like her daughter’s hobby, but at least it wasn’t a motorcycle or heaven forbid that dangerous street racing. Glimmer would eventually move up to track racing and then decided to take her skills to the roads and see. Bow is not thrilled by this, but he is an overly supportive boyfriend and will support her hobby gosh darn it!!! He demands that she wear a safety suit and helmet which she does making her look extra dorky compared to the rest but she races well!
When her and Catra face off for the first time it is neck and neck because Catra has more practical knowledge than Glimmer. Both of her car and the streets, but Glimmer’s build up with her car means she has more practiced skills that are too dangerous for drivers to learn on the streets on the fly. Mostly though Glimmer keeps up because of her ability to have thrown money at her fancy car. By the time Catra and Glimmer are ready for their re-match, Catra’s car is now on par with Glimmer’s money machine but Glimmer has been able to spend the time on the roads learning the routes more and becoming more familiar with the feel of street racing.
Mostly thanks to impromptu races, don’t tell her mom.
Except whoopsies! Bow totally crumbled like a house of cards. Glimmer and Catra are old enough, have their full licenses, and really have done nothing wrong as the street races they went against one another in were both sanctioned. Sure, they both do illegal races too but legal ones for big multi-car groups. So when Angella rolls up in her limo and gets in a full out fight with Glimmer there isn’t much that can be done about it. They go head to head again (ignoring everyone else there) and this time Catra beats Glimmer.
Now they have a back and forth going on where they keep facing off under various situations, and eventually end up in a long sanctioned race where you need a copiolt to actually tell you were to go and help out. Bow gets freaked out right before it starts and Angella offers to go in his place.
Look, Glimmer got her love of fast cars from someone.
Catra takes Entrapta as she’s quick, clever, and also knows what to do if the refined kerosine goes sideways.
Over the radio the whole time both teams just bicker with one another and each other, they both end up off the track somehow and are now racing illegally just against one another. The finish is a photo finish, and also filled with cops. Angella pays for everyone’s bail and they go for either a drink or ice cream. They may or may not race one another on the way there too. Bow and Scorpia meet them because “Wow! But also, don’t do that to me again please!”

Too Hot to Sleep
Living in a crappy studio apartment in Santa Monica is bad enough all year round, but it's especially bad in the summer with no air conditioning. Even worse when you're a creature of the night, since it's way hotter during the day when you sleep, and your blinds are held together with duct tape and don't even work half the time. And even if you don't sweat, the humidity from the nearby ocean will stick to your skin and make trying to get some rest an all around unpleasant experience.
With all those factors in mind, it was a wonder that Faraday hadn't moved out of her old haven into some fancier digs yet. Part of that was a general lack of finances, and another part was that she just never really thought about it, seeing as she didn't even really spend a lot of time in the apartment over the pawn shop. And of course, one advantage the place had was the proximity to the Asylum, where her girlfriend Jeanette operated out of.
Before the sun reared its ugly head that morning, Faraday was already in Jeanette's thankfully air conditioned office slash room, which the girl had made some major redecorations to since her sister stopped being in charge. The large portrait of the sisters as children with their father, which Jeanette hated, was gone, replaced by a large pinup of herself, which she deemed infinitely sexier, and for good reason. Other additions included a coat rack near the entrance, specifically for Faraday to hang her jacket and hat on when she stayed over, and Therese's desk and PC were gone entirely, replaced with a couple of hot pink wardrobes for Jeanette to keep all of her outfits in. Jeanette's fancy mirror was also covered in a bunch more stickers, ranging from various hearts to a sexy bat from a certain video game series.
"Hey, babe," Faraday called out as she entered, hanging her jacket and hat on the coat rack and immediately feeling a lot less temperate. She considered taking her jeans off for a moment as well, but then looked at Jeanette, who was lounging around on her heart-shaped bed in merely a light sleeveless crop top and panties, and went through with it. Now only covered by her tank top and boxer briefs, she joined Jeanette on the bed, the girl immediately snuggling up to her before she even had a chance to get comfortable.
"Hey yourself," Jeanette responded now that her girlfriend was firmly in her arms. "Couldn't sleep without little ol' me?"
"More like couldn't sleep without the AC, but sure, let's go with that." Faraday chuckled.
"Oh, you charmer," Jeanette said sarcastically, rolling her eyes before nuzzling into Faraday's neck.
"Love what you've done with the place, by the way," Faraday continued. It wasn't the first time she had seen the new room, far from it, but she liked to comment on it every time she did anyway, to boost Jeanette's confidence if nothing else.
"Thanks, love!" Jeanette replied with a girlish giggle.
"Surprised you're still keeping the mirror."
"It's the only one she won't touch."
They left it at that.
The two lay there for a couple minutes, neither of them particularly drifting off to sleep yet, just enjoying the moment and each other's presence, until Jeanette suddenly bolted up, and Faraday with her.
"I almost forgot!" Jeanette exclaimed, one finger raised triumphantly. "Blood pop?"
"Blood pop?" Faraday repeated, head tilted in confusion.
In lieu of an explanation, Jeanette reached under the bed, where a portable cooler was hidden. In it, a plastic tray of DIY popsicle molds, from which Jeanette removed two, handing one to Faraday and keeping the other. Faraday stared at the frozen slab of blood on a stick in bewilderment, before taking it and biting a piece off the tip.
"Thanks," she said with her mouth full.
"Oh my gosh, you're a biter!" Jeanette was rather bemused by how Faraday chose to eat her blood pop, herself licking hers almost seductively, as expected.
"What? We're both biters," Faraday responded, playfully bumping Jeanette's shoulder with her own. "Besides, I always ate popsicles like this, even as a mortal," she added.
"It's cute," Jeanette responded, continuing to lick her blood pop while Faraday munched on hers.
"Where'd you get the blood for this anyway?" Faraday asked after a moment.
"Remember the ghoul at the blood bank?"
"Yeah, I told him to go fuck himself once."
"Well I had no more use for him so I just drained him," Jeanette flashed a sinister smile, reminding Faraday that even though her girlfriend was a cutie, she was still a bloodthirsty beast, same as her. "And there was still some blood left at the blood bank, so now that it's closed, this is what I'm doing with it!"
"It's a really good idea," Faraday said, mouth full of blood pop. "You should sell these."
"I would, but I'd have to make sure they'd reach the right market."
"We'll think of something. I know lots of Kindred would pay out the ass for something like this in the summer."
With her popsicle already finished due to her much faster method of consuming it, Faraday was now free to lean over and give Jeanette a kiss on her cheek, before cheekily stealing a lick of her blood pop.
"You're really smart," she said.
"Awww, thank you," Jeanette replied, scootching closer to Faraday on the bed and snuggling up to her once more. "It's still so hard to believe people actually think that about me, when she was always seen as the smart one…"
"Well let's not think about her. You're the smart one now."
Jeanette said nothing, but rested her head on Faraday's shoulder, suckling on her blood pop in silence - to keep herself from crying, Faraday suspected. She did love to shower Jeanette in affirmation, even if it ended in Jeanette having to hold back tears on account of not being used to positive words. After all, all her life (and unlife) the closest person to her had nothing but criticism to say about her.
They sat in more silence while Jeanette finished her own popsicle, then laid back down on the bed, facing each other. Faraday stared at Jeanette's lips, the thought of a cool (in temperature, not figuratively) makeout session with the lingering taste of blood on her mind, but she wasn't sure if it would be appropriate in the moment.
"What are you waiting for?" Jeanette noticed. Faraday would have pulled her hat down, but it was stored away on the coat rack near the door, so her fingers just treaded bangs. She pushed them out of the way and looked up at Jeanette's eyes instead.
"Permission." She smirked teasingly, as naturally Jeanette's question just before was all the permission she needed.
"How polite of you," Jeanette teased back, before diving in for a kiss. It was exactly as Faraday imagined - cool and tasting of blood. And of course Jeanette was a phenomenal kisser.
What they did after pulling away from the kiss and before actually falling asleep for the day was a lot less polite.

What is your favorite VM Carmen performance? They tinkered with it a lot that season — so even if later performances were stronger the elements were different so I can’t decide!
You sent me down quite a rabbit hole, anon, LOL. I was going to give my usual answer, but then I got curious, because I’d watched the Skate Canada International version to remind myself of a couple of things, and I realized I hadn’t watched any version of Carmen in a long time. As you said, it was a program that had a lot of tinkering - though they tended to adjust all of their programs as the season progressed - and each version had it’s own merits.
Skate Canada was their first public outing of Carmen, because they’d withdrawn from Finlandia due to injury (reported: Scott hurt his neck during a lift, and then during the SD at SC, they struggled very hard with a very interesting lift and it was never seen again). They had some visible issues during Carmen - a transition, Tessa slipping off an edge at the end of the diagonal step sequence (or perhaps they ran out of room lol) - but the intensity was great, the intended characterization during the step sequences were still there, and the combination lift fit the silence in the music perfectly. It was probably as close to the version of Carmen they had in their heads as we ever got to see.
Rostelecom Cup was a lot better than I remembered LOL. Their spin had a glitch that made it slow, but their step sequences were great to an eye not looking for errors (they didn’t get great marks - had a moment looking at the GOE and marveling all over again at the way ice dance used to be marked.)
Grand Prix Final was something of a surprise to me, because I truly cannot remember the last time I’d seen it. I think the disappointment of them coming in second - and knowing how it kind of set up the rest of the season, in the end - combined with me usually not being the biggest fan of GPF versions in general for them, had left me never putting that one on the to watch list. It was a treat to go back and see where they were at that point, and while still not my favourite (they were, I think, starting to adjust music, timing, and more of their elements), it was a much more smooth balance between performance and technique.
Nationals is usually my go-to answer for my favourite version. It was not their best technically, when we look at the scorecard, even with the theoretical national boost, but the way that they performed it was, to me, the best balanced program to the naked eye. They had settled into the performance, and without the pressure of competing against DW, they could ‘enjoy’ it more. Nationals is almost always my go-to answer for my favourite version of all their performances, LOL.
4CC is a version I don’t really watch, for obvious reasons, and I didn’t subject myself to it here, either. But I’m always fascinated by 4CC in the ‘what could have been’ category, as I see it as the key point in which the narrative turned against VM possibly winning gold in Sochi (though there was no doubt other factors). Against DW, VM had won the SD on technical points - a level four on their midline step sequence vs DW’s level 3 gave them an extra half-point overall, though they still trailed in GOE/PCS - which was a nice boost. But when you look at the marks for the FD, there is a trend in the marks which can lead one to believe that had they not had to stop just before their combination lift, they could have also won the FD. There is a distinct difference between before and after that pivotal moment, and whether that was due to their own energy change leading to little mistakes, or the judges penalizing them in a way allowed to them since there was no literal deduction for the pause, is hard to say - but still, the marks show the difference. (There was, of course, also areas of PCS that were probably a result of the pause. But had there been no pause, what would have the outcome of this event have been? What would have been the ‘momentum’ of going into Worlds? And from Worlds to the next season? We will never know. But of course, we did end up with a Comeback, so that is that.)
After 4CC, at which point the spin was blamed for Tessa’s leg pain which caused the pause, the spin was removed from the program and replaced with their Mahler spin for Worlds. It was fine technically, but a letdown for me emotionally after being so attached to the creativity of the original Carmen spin.
Worlds was probably their smoothest performance, but for me, I missed the more raw emotional aspect that I felt at the earlier part of the season, and combined with the changes to the technical components, I never consider it to be my favourite.
Well, after looking at every competitive version (except 4CC) again... I’m gonna stick with my usual: Nationals, with Skate Canada a near second. Turns out I could have skipped all that ‘research’... but I’m glad I didn’t and had a chance to revisit my favourite program, several times over. :)

THE SUN IN VIRGO IN THE HOUSES(SUN TRANSIT IN THE HOUSES)
So incase you guys don't know, the sun is malefic and that's what we are going to talk about on the last day of Leo season which is Sunday and the Sun is Leos ruling planet.
Virgo season starts tomorrow and this is what you need to know.
Virgo is a dual sign, the M and the fish at the tail. To me, it means Mother (the M) and child(the fish). Virgo represents facts and order. The Sun is how you see yourself. Most of the things I mention below are going to be your own doing.
If this does not resonate with you its okay, this is a general interpretation which has not taken into consideration every single persons birth chart. But these are the themes you are bound to meet.

The first house is the house of first impressions. Virgo in the first house means you come off as very orderly and well put together. The Sun transiting Virgo first house means people may see you as the person with facts and very organized during Virgo season(when the sun is in Virgo). The sun will be highlighting you in peoples eyes. You may feel like everyone has got their eyes on you, they probably do because you are acting jittery. If you make a mistake, everyone will know(or in your head you will convince yourself that everyone knows). If you do something good even if you are unaware of it, it wont go unnoticed. You may feel heavily scrutinized by the public or be in a place where everyone is checking your work ethic. Peoples expectations of you may feel like your hand is in fire but you can't remove it.
The second house is the house of your money and survival needs. The sun transiting Virgo in the second house may mean if you are not organized then all your sources of income or survival will be burnt and you will have nothing left. Always save up and in different accounts! I bet people who had this transit before the pandemic began found themselves spending a lot of money or losing money. Ensure you have carried them when travelling. If you are applying to schools(University mostly), please please check the percentage of OPEN SOURCES THE SCHOOL OFFERS otherwise when doing your thesis you will have a very very difficult time. If possible, visit the school environment and see if it is worth it, some school environments are tough especially for students who will be looking for housing near school. Research on the countries you want to visit, please stop going to countries where minorities are suffering because of tourists due to increase spread of the virus and pollution. Be kind. Find out if your ethics are really ethical, you may be very oppressive with your ethics.
The tenth house also called Medium Coeli(MC) or Midheaven, is the house of career, long term goals, structure, experts and father. Someone might be looking into paternity because they either feel skeptical that the child they are raising is not theirs or their father is not their biological dad as they have been made to believe. I like saying that the tenth house is what they mean by 'things that have been put together in heaven, no man can put asunder', so do not force things or interfere with things in this house. Just do your part and leave the rest otherwise you will be wasting your time and energy. During this transit you may feel like everything is falling into place but you may need to think twice. Virgo is facts and order, do you really have the facts or you think you do and you are just going with it? If you love yourself, please stop clicking ads, stop allowing people to plug anything into your PC, TURN OFF BLUETOOTH DISCOVERABILITY, stop using public WIFI and please close all tabs and running apps when on zoom (or any other such platform)because when you share screen you may not know that your information is out for everyone to see-some of which may be very sensitive-. How humanitarian are you? And do you do things humanitarian in a human way or analytical way just because its what needs/has to be done? You may need to significantly drop the statistics and analytical things when dealing with people face to face. What is your plan for the future? Revisit it and make the necessary changes. If you have none, start writing down one.
The twelfth house is the house of endings, spirituality, dreams and the subconscious. The Sun transit Virgo twelfth house may mean that you need to have detailed end of life plans, pay for them now or start saving up for them now. It doesn't matter if you are just 18, start. What do you need to let go of? Your sick relative who is willing to go but waiting for you to let go of them? A friendship? A job? A house? Unhealthy eating habits? Unhealthy coping mechanisms? Several things you are hoarding? Write down things that need letting go of then start letting go of them bit by bit this month. Have you been doing things subconsciously? Start recording them, you may need to see something. Like a pattern which may be as a result of trauma or your instincts getting stronger or something else. Dragon Hunt, an adventure for Shadowrun (1st Edition). Part 4. The Shadowrun within a Shadowrun
Here’s a Shadowrun adventure pitch:
A corp exec runs a secret experiment without their bosses’ knowledge, and it turns drek-house. To cover their hoop, they hire a team of shadowrunners to track down and eliminate any loose ends. Johnson wants it done with minimal bang-bang, hoping to keep things quiet. The team consists of:
Blackwing, Elf Assassin
Rhiannon, Elf Combat Mage
John Whitefeather, Former Tribal Warrior
Render, Troll Street Samurai
Sounds like a solid start to a run, with characters all Laubenstein illustrated.
Except in Dragon Hunt, the PCs are some of the “loose ends” that need to be wrapped up.
The Return of Blackwing
As promised in the first post, Blackwing is back!
Tagging along are three archetypes from supplements:
John Whitefeather and Render have the exact same stats as the Former Tribal Warrior (from Sprawl Sites) and Troll Street Samurai (from Street Samurai Catalog), just with some missing equipment.
Rhiannon is the Combat Mage (from Sprawl Sites) just turned into an elf (no ability mods) and with a minor tweak to skills (Street instead of Corp etiquette).
The backstory updates us on what Blackwing has been up to, which includes a major cyberware upgrade. Here are his stats from Bottled Demon:

The core book doesn’t give rules for removing/upgrading cyberware, only noting the costs for getting it installed (Protip: get all the cyberware you can at character creation, because once the game starts, surgery costs and recovery time is FRAGGING EXPENSIVE.).
The Street Samurai Catalog introduces optional rules for cyberware damage (to GM’s delight) and repair (to runner’s delight), alpha and beta grade custom cyberware (more expensive, less Essence cost), and brings us the first cyberware that can’t be upgraded (Boosted Reflexes, the dumb cousin of Wired Reflexes), implying cyberware that can be upgraded.
It wasn’t until Shadowtech (to be discussed in future posts) that it was made explicit that
Lost Essence Never Returns
“Removing previously implanted cyberware does not bring a return of the Essence spend for that cyberware. Essence, once expended, is gone forever.”
However, if you do get cyberware removed, you get a “credit” for what your spirit has lost in Essence, so you could swap out that Fingertip Compartment (Essence Cost 0.1) with a Mastoid Implant Speaker (also 0.1) for no extra loss of Essence.
So that’s the sitch for Blackwing: his essence starts off at 0.2 and ends up at 0.16, so only had a net loss of 0.04 Essence. All of his new cyberware is Alpha grade, however, so nothing he had before could be upgraded – they had to rip out the old stuff like ratty shag carpeting and lay down that new stuff like hardwood floors.
Alpha grade cyberware has a 20% reduction in Essence cost (so an item that would normally be 1 point of Essence would only cost 0.8), but costs three times as much. Let’s start the tab:
Drastic Invasive Surgery (since more than 1 Essence point is being implanted). Cost: 250,000 ¥
Recovery from surgery uses the same timetable as healing damage; since Drastic Invasive gives a Deadly wound, that’s a minimum of three days recovery in a Hospitalized lifestyle (once you get down to a Serious wound, you can heal up in a High lifestyle, which we’ll assume Blackwing has).
Recovery costs in Intensive Care (including doctor’s fees). Cost: 3,000 ¥
His new wares are (including Alpha grade modifiers)
Wired Reflexes (3). Cost: 1,500,000 ¥, Essence 4
Cyberears with Hearing Amplification. Cost: 22,500 ¥, Essence 0.24

For a grand total of (surgery+recovery+new warez) 5,102,500 ¥ and a final Essence of… -0.84.
Blackwing should be a cyberzombie.

His listed Essence is 0.16, which is off by an entire point of Essence. Simplest way to reconcile this discrepancy is to say he only has one spiffed-up cyberarm instead of two, but that means he doesn’t get the bonus to Body that a pair of cyberarms gets you.

so here’s my disclaimer: I hardly know what I'm doing. This is my glued together homemade giffing method that I’ve created over months of just random experimentation and bits and pieces from all kinds of tutorials. there are probably better or more correct ways to do a lot of these things! this also isn’t a completely universal tutorial, some of the specifics are geared towards giffing skam, specifically skam france.
I gif in photoshop cc 2020 on a macbook. Some things like keyboard shortcuts and little things about the photoshop interface will probably vary if you are on a pc/ other version of photoshop!
this is very long and very unprofessional, but I hope there is something in here that someone will find helpful!

tldr tips
1. downloading clips
4k video downloader (which you can get for mac or pc here) is great for things posted to youtube, especially from skam france because all the clips are on their youtube with no weird geoblocks or anything! it’s really easy, you just have to open the clip in youtube, copy the link, and go into the program and hit paste link. I like to put on smart mode first and set the destination folder so all my clips go into the place I want.
There is a 30 video per day download limit, so if you’re thinking you really want to gif lots of stuff from the show, and want a big chunk or a full season it’s definitely worth hunting for a mega or google drive with full episodes to download because it’s just less hassle! I might come back to this post later and compile a list of all of those, but for now if you type “[remake] no subs google drive” or “[remake] no subs mega” into a google search, you’ll probably find something! the all of skam website has no subs for several remakes, but not all!
If you don’t have enough space on your computer to be keeping full seasons, I know there are methods to get screencaps without having to download (generally for giffing movies and regular tv I think this is a common method), but I’ve never done it so I’ll redirect you to this tutorial that explains it! you should probably just go there for the whole thing tbh it’s much more coherent than this, but I digress.
2. selecting the piece of the video you want to gif
now that you’ve got your episode or clip you’ll want to just open it in photoshop! if you go the screen capping route the way to do that is a bit wonky, so you can keep following the tutorial I linked above and join back in here at coloring if you like!
if the timeline at the bottom doesn’t pop up automatically you can go to window > timeline and turn it on! now you can use the scrubber bar thing to find the moment you want to gif!
The advantage of this over screen capping is you can scrub with more precision. the arrows circled in blue below let you jump only one frame, where in screen capping I'm pretty sure you can only go by ten second or one minute intervals.
I usually drag the scrubber as close as I can to the start of the shot/moment I want to use, fiddle with the arrows circled in blue below to jump forward or back one frame at a time until I'm at the first frame I want. I move the left grey handle to the scrubber and then I hit the play button and let the whole shot/moment play. Pause and repeat the shuffling with the arrows until you’ve landed on the last frame you want to use and move the other grey handle.
the moment you want to use should be between your handles (it’ll look like what I have circled in red), and if you hit play, you should see the thing you want to gif playing on loop above the timeline. the speed will probably be weird, but we’ll deal with that at the end.
now I recommend doing command or control + s to save your gif as a psd (photoshop document). this is a working, editable file which means if photoshop crashes you can open your file right back up and keep working as long as you’re hitting command or control + s at regular intervals as you work. later we’ll go through exporting in gif format that can actually be uploaded to tumblr.
3. cropping
next I crop out any logos or black space at the top and bottom. Just click on the crop tool on the lefthand side of the screen, drag the edges and hit enter when you’re done. you can of course crop out more than just that, but regardless of what you crop out, now is the time to do it.
you can set an aspect ratio for your crop at the top of the screen if you’d like to be positive that all the gifs in your set will be the same:
4. my trusty action: resizing, converting to a smart object, and sharpening with one click
Now is when I use an action I made that does all the resizing, converts to a smart object, and sharpens. I’ll take you through the steps so you can conceptually get what’s going on, but I highly recommend using the actions window to record your process as you follow along so you have this action as well. It easily shaves at least 5-10 minutes off of the whole process, and these steps will be the same every time.
here’s how you make an action: go to window > action and open the action panel. click the plus symbol to start recording a new action:
in the window that pops up, give it a name and hit record:
now just continue with the steps below, and it will save them!
first you flatten frames to clips (I think it says flatten to layers on older versions of photoshop). this is in the menu at the top right corner of your timeline:
next you convert to frame animation by clicking on the symbol in the bottom left, circled in red:
if there is more than one thing in the frame animation, delete the extra one. you don’t need to keep the last one but it won’t let you remove it until there are other frames in there. also go into your layers and delete video group 1 and its contents. don’t ask me why these steps are necessary, I don’t really know, but I’ve noticed it sometimes gets wonky if you don’t do this:
now you want to make frames from layers and delete that first frame that was there before:
then we return to the timeline:
use command + option + a (control + alt + a for pc I'm pretty sure) to select all layers and then right click within your layers window and select convert to smart object. It’s important to convert to smart object after you go back to the timeline, or the gif won’t move:
next I resize. gifs for tumblr should be 540 pixels wide. for recording your action you should just go into image > image size and only change the width to 540 in case you ever have gifs cropped to different aspect ratios. don’t touch the height, let constrain proportions figure it out!
now, here’s what our base gif looks like, no sharpening, no coloring:
now to sharpen. go to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen. this is up to personal preference, but my go to settings are:
this is what we have after sharpening:
now is when you can stop recording your action.
just press the stop button in the action window:
this action is pretty much universal and after I select the moment the gif will be and crop however I want, I use it on every gif I make! so although this initial setup is tedious, now you’ll never have to do these steps again, and the process is magically much quicker.
5. it’s time to jump into coloring!
I typically start with exposure and sometimes some brightness/contrast. with really dark gifs like this, you kind of have to make it worse before you make it better. I did this:

we have some static and some ugly bits, and this is where selective color comes in to fix it! boost blacks like this:
and now your gif looks like this:
the skin tone is looking a little sickly and weird, so I go into the yellows and reds in my selective color layer to fix it! I also messed with the greens here because I didn't want color in the background (that part is totally optional and just up to your preference):
now we have this:
to really take the color 100% out of the background, I did one more separate selective color layer for cyan (again, I just felt like it but this is optional!):
and now the finished gif:
there’s lots of fun extra things you can add like text and tints and overlays and all that I won’t get into, but feel free to reach out for help on those types of things!
this gif was certainly not the most complicated to color. some ridonkulously dark clips (*cough cough* vendredi 20h27 *cough cough*) take tons and tons more effort than this and a lot of the time you’ll want to use color balance layers and vibrance layers and all of that to mess with your coloring.
with all of this coloring business, I really just learned by doing. I don’t know all the technical purposes of each type of adjustment layer, and I tend to stay away from curves just because I find them confusing and annoying. The bottom line is that you should always experiment and find out whatever coloring works for you and run with it! I’m sure every gif maker you talk to does things at least a little differently!
I highly recommend taking the time to go through all the types of adjustment layers and just move the sliders around to see what they do! That’s honestly one of the best ways to learn and decide what you like!
6. now to export and adjust the delay!
the keyboard shortcut for exporting on mac is command + option + shift + s, control + alt + shift + s for pc, otherwise you can go to file > export > save for web
my settings are here:
the settings only need to be configured once! otherwise just hit save and follow the pop ups to choose where to save and what name you want to give your gif. Since you saved as a psd way back, that will be the name it’s automatically given, but call it whatever you want!
then I adjust my delay by opening the gif I just exported (not the psd, the .gif file) and using one of my delay actions. I’ve made an action for each delay between 0.05 (real time) and 0.08 (really slow mo for certain super short shots, typically for more ~artsy~ sets).
all my action does is select all frames:
adjust the delay (which will differ based on whether you want them slowed down and by how much):
for reference, this is a 0.05 delay:
and this is a 0.08 delay
now you just export the same way you did before!
remember if you’re recording this as an action, you don’t want to touch the file name, just say yes when it asks if you want to replace the file. if you always save your gifs to the same place, your action will now enable you to override any gif with the incorrect delay with the correct one with one click!
7. tldr: the main tips
for downloading 4k video downloader works well for non geoblocked youtube videos, the all of skam website is another place you can look to download with no subs, here’s the screen capping method if you don’t want to download
The main way I combat dark lighting is to bump exposure to the right, gamma correction to the left, and then enhance black in a selective color layer. The amount of these three adjustments will vary gif to gif. I know lots of people use curves, but I find them really confusing for some reason, so this is my method! As my graphics teacher likes to say: there are always at least 3 different ways to reach the same result!
there’s a little bit of additional coloring on this one, but here’s another before and after example so you can get an idea of how those steps get you a better lit result without making the lighter parts super over exposed:
besides those three steps, you have free rein to use the other selective color channels, as well as color balance, vibrance, hue/saturation, etc. to restore color that was lost or to change the colors altogether! mess around with it and have fun experimenting!
7a. bonus coloring tip:
sometimes you can make use of selective color to completely alter an isolated color in your gif. You can get very adventurous with this, but here's a simple example of changing blue tones to teal (I got away with these gifs being longer because they were in rows of two in the set I posted them in. I'm too lazy to trim frames so I can put them here at 540 px without going over the 10mb limit so just ignore the quality ok):
7b. actions, actions, actions!
if you find yourself doing a certain thing over and over, always record it as an action. the amount of time they will save you is honestly really impressive.
You can duplicate actions, so, for example, if you have different sharpening preferences for different shows or scenes, you can duplicate your gif process action and go into the steps, double click smart sharpen, and alter it however you want!
This could also be good to do for the different widths for tumblr if you ever do sets with rows of two or three! Duplicate actions is also how I made my actions that set delay at 0.05, 0.06, 0.07, and 0.08!
when in doubt, always make an action! it’s worth minimizing the tedious bits of the process as much as possible so you can focus on the fun part of seeing your awesome gifs come to life! any little task you find yourself doing often, make an action!

So it has come to my attention that when people talk about RPG Maker the series, many aren’t aware of how far back the series goes.
Did you know that series dates back to almost thirty years?
That’s right, next year will be the 30th anniversary of RPG Maker!
So why don’t we have a history lesson into arguably one of the most important franchises in gaming history?
Alright, where does the story begin for this iconic series?
According to sources, there has been games similar to RPG Maker that were made by ASCII (the original company behind RPG Maker) and that were released as far back as 1988, with the following titles:
Mamirin (1988)
Dungeon Manjirou (1988)
RPG Construction Tool: Dante (1990)
Dante 2 (1992)
Chimes Quest (1992)
The very first official RPG Maker title came in the form of RPG Tsukūru Dante 98, released on December 17, 1992. This game, along with its 1996 sequel RPG Tsukūru Dante 98 II, was originally made for the NEC PC-9801 Japanese home computers at the time. It was originally made when ASCII pulled from other games (listed above) and combined them together to create a RPG-making development title with its own toolkit. The genre of RPG specifically was thanks to the rise of JRPGs in recent years like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy to name a few.
The next major release of RPG Maker was in the form of RPG Tsukūru: Super Dante in 1995, which marked the very first time that the series has landed onto a console. The console was the Nintendo Super Famicom and it was later broadcasted a year later using the Satellaview service. While it did exhibit some restrictions in terms of content due to system limitations, it was famous for providing hundreds of character, monster and scenery assets with color swap palettes to save on memory in the cartridge as well as designing the stats of characters and monsters pre-determined by the player. It was said that the game was popular with players but sources are limited about actual reviews. RPG Tsukūru 2 is the sequel and it was released in 1996 on the Super Famicom as well.
Windows saw the release of the third installment with RPG Tsukūru 95, which was released in 1997 and was the first of many RPG Maker titles for Windows. Unlike its predecessors, it boasted higher resolution in sprites and tilesets as well as higher screen resolution. It also has the honor of being the first version to have an unauthorized English translation and release due to demand. Also with this version, the number of party members was boosted to 8 people with the first 4 acting as the main battle party. RPG Tsukūru 95 Value! was released not long after with the added bonus of having Windows XP support, which was new at the time and very valuable.
So when did the West finally receive an official version version of RPG Maker?
On November 27, 1997, Enterbrain released the following title RPG Tsukūru 3 for the original Playstation and chose to release the software simply as RPG Maker in the West three years later on October 2, 2000 under Agetec. This was the first time the West would finally receive a version of RPG Maker and experience the magic of RPG development, but it was reported that a limited run of copies were released outside of Japan. It was also one of thirty games that utilized the now-rare Playstation Mouse (which is usually an arm and a leg to import). Players got to customize their own assets using the Anime Maker that was also built into the game and, like the original Super Famicom versions, utilized color-swap palettes to save on memory. Another cool feature that was a first for the series was saving your created game onto a memory card so that you could share your creation with your friends.
One of the most beloved and popular versions of RPG Maker is next on the list and it is RPG Tsukūru 2000 for Windows on April 5, 2000. Despite the popularity, it was Japan-exclusive and it featured a lower resolution for graphics and assets overall than its RPG Maker 95 predecessor. Despite this, it boasted more functionality with unlimited sprite sheets and tilesets.
The last in that trio was RPG Tsukūru 2003, first released only in Japan in 2003 before being released worldwide in 2015. Improvements to this version included the side-view battle system that was popular in Final Fantasy, and interchangeable resources. From this point, the development company Enterbrain would take over RPG Maker as it was part of the ASCII company.
Starting with the released of RPG Tsukūru 5 on the Playstation 2 in 2005, Enterbrain was starting to look into developing the series for an international audience of players. They would beginning to craft titles that are now iconic in the RPG development community, with the first of these releases being RPG Tsukūru XP (RPG Maker XP as it was known world-wide) released on Windows in 2004. While many of the simplified features have been removed from this version, it was the first RPG Maker game to use Ruby, a type of programming language first seen in 1995, and it was the first title to distribute assets online amongst the community thanks to the rise of the Internet. It allowed greater control over sprite size other gaming aspects, which helped it become more versatile than previous titles. However, a drawback is the steep learning curve, which was intimidating to new players. It was released to Steam in 2015.
The next modern RPG Maker title was the release of RPG Tsukūru VX (RPG Maker VX as it was known world-wide) in Japan in 2007, world-wide in 2008. It has the one-up over XP for its more user-friendly layout and faster framerate of 60fps over XP’s 40 fps. The programming was completely done over to be more accessible in scripting and the battle systems were now similar to Dragon Quest with a front-view battle system and detailed text. Because of these aspects and other improved features, it became a popular choice for modern developers since release. However, one of the biggest drawbacks was the lack of support for multiple tilesets when mapping that frustrated players. It was released to Steam in 2016.
Right after that, RPG Tsukūru VX Ace (RPG Maker VX Ace as it was known world-wide) was a direct sequel to the version mentioned above. Described as an “overhauled version of RPG Maker VX”, it removed the multiple tileset issue that plagued players in the previous version and re-introduced battle backgrounds during battle scenes. Magic and skill systems were re-worked to have their own recovery and damage formulas in the programming, and a new set of music tracks were accompanied in the database files. It was released to Steam in 2012.
Having the distinction of being released by Degica for the first time world-wide, RPG Tsukūru MV (RPG Maker MV as known world-wide), underwent quite a few adjustments by introducing multiplatform support as well as side-view battles and high resolution features and assets. For the first time, JavaScript replaced Ruby as the default programming language. Players also saw the return of layered tilesets, which were missing from the previous installments. Not only was it released for Windows, but also for PS4 and Nintendo Switch (A XBox One version was planned but unfortunately scrapped), giving players new ways to share games. It was released to Steam in 2015.
The newest installment to the famous series is RPG Tsukūru MZ (RPG Maker MZ as known world-wide), and it was just released last year in August of 2020. Reviews for the game were mixed as players noted that the trailers leading up to release were very similar to RPG Maker MV. It did have some positively-received features such as autosave functionality and XP-style autolayer mechanics. It was released to Steam in 2020.
So with the history side taken care of, what about some of the most iconic games ever made using the software?
Good question! Given the extensive list of successful games to come out of RPG Maker, that will be a separate Friday Special so I can cover them more in-depth. Maybe next week perhaps?

I was formally introduced to RPG Maker by some mutuals of mine on Discord a few years ago when I expressed interest in wanting to create scenes like a movie of sorts. My software of choice is RPG Maker VX Ace as it was suggested to me for being better at creating events than any other version. It's understandably intimidating at first, especially for newcomers, but there are hundreds of tutorials on Steam, Youtube and all over the internet.
I also have other copies of RPG Maker, including the PS1 version of RPG Maker and even RPG Tsukūru: Super Dante for my Super Famicom that I just received a few days ago! It's definitely wild how much the series has grown and improved upon over the years.
From what I have been recommended by friends who are long-time players of this series, either go for RPG Maker MV (if you're interested in mapping) or RPG Maker VX Ace (if you're interested in creating events). From what I have seen, those two are some of the more popular choices. In terms of platform, always go for Steam (and get them on sale when you can) because you will have better accessibility and it's more user-friendly than the console versions. The abundance of community-generated assets also help.

On Ameridan's Trail
(Previous quest - What Yet Lingers: Return to Kenric)
Main questline: On Ameridan’s Trail
Characters involved: Bram Kenric, Lace Harding
A spirit - in the guise of Inquisitor Ameridan's lover, Telana - revealed that Ameridan travelled upriver.
Part 1: Follow the river and look for spires. Follow the spire path to an ancient ruin.
(The Tevinter ruin can be seen in the distance.)
Party comments:
Varric: Well, we're up the river. That old Tevinter building must be what the spirit meant.
Sera: So. River, metal—just like the friendly spirit said. Great.
Cole: Yes. Upriver, spires, a place to pray and plan, one last night. This is it.
Solas: This must be the area the spirit referred to.
(Approach the ruin. It’s guarded by a large group of Hakkonites.)
Party comments:
Dorian: It seems the Jaws of Hakkon would rather we weren’t here.
Blackwall: Look's like we've stumbled on what they don't want found.
Cassandra: The Jaws of Hakkon must be guarding this place for a reason.
Iron Bull: We found something they don't want found.
(Defeat the Hakkonites and enter Razikale’s Reach.)
(Dorian has a unique comment about each Tevinter ruin. Here’s what he has to say about Razikale’s Reach.)
Dorian: Makes you wonder about the sad, mid-level bureaucrat who thought building an outpost here would be a career boost.
Part 2: Wait for Harding and Kenric to arrive. Investigate the area.
Kenric: This is brilliant! This must be what the spirit meant. Excellent find! From what I can see, this is an ancillary station, likely a scouting post for the larger structure to the east. What can it tell us about where Inquisitor Ameridan went? Hmm…
Harding: I got Professor Kenric here safely. The rest is up to you.
Kenric: Lady Harding was quite nimble in the wilderness!
Harding: I'll be watching to make sure the Hakkonites don't come back.
(Enter the main courtyard. There are strange tiles on the ground.)
Kenric: This is Tevinter, from well before the last Inquisitor's time. I understand they used such tiles as locks. Interesting, though not likely related to Ameridan.
(There are two closed doors on your right and left. In front of each door, there’s a smaller tileset, similar to the one in the center of the courtyard. They show two patterns.)
Kenric: I believe that shape relates to the tiles. If you could replicate the shape in the tiles, something... would happen?
(Once you press the tiles in the correct order, replicating the pattern visible in the smaller tileset, the corresponding doors open. Kenric has an additional remark after both doors have been opened.)
Kenric: Brilliant! Look at that!
(The following remarks appear to have been cut from the game, but they can still be found in the voice file connected to this questline. They might’ve been intended to occur during the investigation of the outskirts of Razikale’s Reach.)
* Kenric: Hmm, Dalish. Of course, modern clans often carry heirlooms—it may be from a Dalish clan passing through.
* Kenric: I've heard of such illuminations but only encountered drawings. Elven or the common tongue? It's not quite legible.
* Kenric: An Orlesian buckle. Unlikely to have been dropped by ancient Tevinters, wouldn't you say?
PC: Is this useful?
Kenric: (Laughs.) Merely interesting.
PC: That's... good?
(Continue exploring the ruin. One of the chambers is guarded by a magical barrier.)
Part 3: Find a way to take down the barrier.
(Investigate the inscription on the left side of the barrier.)
Kenric: This is elven. I believe it's the word for "light."
(Investigate the inscription on the right side of the barrier.)
Kenric: "Theneras." The elven word for "dream," I think.
Kenric: It's some sort of clue to this barrier. I'm not sure how…
(Find a veilfire source on the battlements. Use it to dispel the barrier.)
Part 4: Explore the chamber.
Kenric: Oh, well done. Well done, indeed.
Harding: That's something you don't see every day.
Kenric: A pair of shrines. This one is clearly Andrastian, albeit from a very early period, likely pre-Divine. But this is elven. One of their gods. Um, what was it...? "Every mother finds druffalo among sleeping juniper groves..." G-something, the one with the deer.

[4] Elf: Ghilan'nain.
PC: That would be Ghilan'nain, Mother of the Halla. [9]
[5] History: Ghilan'nain.
PC: That would be Ghilan'nain, Mother of the Halla. [9]
[6] Special: Solas?
PC: (Looks expectantly at Solas.)
Solas: (Sighs.) Ghilan'nain. [9]
[7] Special: Sera?
PC: Sera, I don't suppose...?
Sera: I know things. It's Ghilan'nain. Ghilan'nain. Arse. [9]
[8] General: Focus, Kenric.
PC: Unless the deer points us at the final resting place of Inquisitor Ameridan, we can probably leave it for now.
Kenric: Right. Regardless of the deity, this is clearly elven. [Go straight to 10]
[9] Kenric: Yes, brilliant, thank you! That would have bothered me all day. [10]
[10] Harding: Two shrines for two lovers: Inquisitor Ameridan and Telana. Maybe Telana was an elf.
Kenric: Oh, yes, that's good! The Chantry expunged references to elves before the Exalted March on the Dales. They erased the Canticle of Shartan. They must have done the same to Telana. [11]
[11] Dialogue options:
General: That's offensive. [12]
General: That's normal. [13]
General: Is this where Ameridan died? [14]
[12] General: That's offensive.
PC: The Chantry should not rewrite history to cover up inconvenient truths.
Party comments:
Cassandra: Agreed. The Chant of Light should spread the truth, not suppress it.
Kenric: Regardless, the important thing is what this tells us. It's not a burial site, that much is obvious. [15]
[13] General: That's normal.
PC: It's only natural. History is written by the victor, after all.
Party comments:
Cassandra: Natural, perhaps. But not right.

[14] General: Is this where Ameridan died?
PC: Do you think this is where Ameridan died?
Kenric: No, this was a site of preparation, not burial. Ameridan and Telana put up this shrine together. [15]
[15] Harding: Look at those flowers. They're not native to the area. What if they were left at the shrine as an offering?
Kenric: Yes, a night of prayer before battle against the dragon. But then where, where… We're missing something. What are we missing? Where did you go?
Part 5: Look for more clues.
(Activate one of the veilfire runes in the chamber.)
PC: Professor, look at this: "Shartan 10:7" and "Transfigurations 10:1."
Kenric: Shartan is dissonant: "And before them, empty, outstretched lay the land which led to the gates of Minrathous." And Transfigurations is, "The Light shall lead her safely through the paths of this world." Why these verses? Why would Inquisitor Ameridan take the time to carve this before going into battle?
(Activate the other veilfire rune.)
PC: "The gates of Minrathous." Isn't there a Tevinter fortress in the area?
Kenric: Yes? ...Oh, of course, the ritual site! To seal the dragon away, Ameridan's elven mage must have used a spell, at a site of great power!
Harding: My scouts have checked the fortress. It's sealed behind a wall of ice. It has to be magic.
PC: Let's look around. Ameridan found a way through that ice, so that way should be nearby.
Part 6: Activate a trail marker.
PC: "The Light shall lead her safely through the paths of this world and into the next."
Kenric: Brilliant! When the Imperium abandoned this fortress, they left the wall of ice to—to... lock the door behind them?
Harding: And every lock has a key.
Kenric: Like these trail markers. Ameridan must have known how to use them. If they can melt through the ice, that must be where Ameridan sealed away the dragon.
PC: I'll follow the markers and see what we can find.
Part 7: Light all of the trail markers.
(Leave the temple and follow the trail of light across the Frostback Basin.)
Party comments when you activate the first trail marker in the forest:
First comment:
Cassandra: Are we certain these trail markers will burn through this wall of ice around the fortress?
Blackwall: Let's hope these trail markers can breach the wall of ice around the fortress.
Iron Bull: We sure these things will burn through the magical ice?
(If no companion makes a comment here.)
PC: Hopefully this removes the wall of ice around the Tevinter fortress.
Possible second comment:
Dorian: As long as the trail markers are still functional, we should be fine.
Vivienne: At least the trail markers appear to be functional.
Solas: Given that the trail markers retain enough energy to illuminate one another, I see no reason to worry.
Possible third comment:
Sera: No ice, still a wall. What about that?
Cole: But there's still a wall. Light doesn't make walls go away.
Varric: You think these things will get us through that giant fortress wall?
(After activating the third marker, you’ll have to cross the river by foot, which causes your companions to voice their dissatisfaction.)
Party comments:
Sera: Ugh, water everywhere. Everything is dank and chafy.
Dorian: Are we wading now? I'm so glad I came along.
Vivienne: It appears we shall be reduced to wading. Lovely.
Iron Bull: Looks like we're wading.
(If Varric is in the party, he always speaks at the end.) Varric: I don't know what you're complaining about. You're taller than I am.
(The path from the sixth to seventh trail marker is destroyed, so you’ll have to take a detour.)
Party comments:
Sera: The road is not a road anymore. Find another way, yeah?
Varric: 800 years is a long time to expect a path to stay pristine. We'll have to find another way.
Iron Bull: Rockslide took out the path. We'll have to go around.
Cassandra: The path is gone. We must find another way around.
Solas: The path has been destroyed. We will need to find another way.
Blackwall: With the path destroyed, we'll have to find another way around.
(Activate the ninth trail marker - one before the last.)
Party comments:
Cassandra: We are almost to the fortress.
Iron Bull: Not far to that old Vint fortress now.
Blackwall: That Tevinter fortress shouldn't be much further.
(The trail markers lead to the Old Temple where the Jaws of Hakkon burrowed in.)
(Dorian has a unique comment about each Tevinter ruin. Here’s what he has to say about the Old Temple.)
Dorian: Tevinter architecture at its finest. This just screams "I hated my parents and had no friends as a child," doesn't it?
(Activate the last marker and dissolve the magical wall of ice. You may attempt to attack the Hakkonites defending the battlements, but they’ll just keep coming and one of the male Hakkonites will mock your efforts.)
Hakkonite taunts:
Your gods are weak, Inquisitor! You will see the power of Hakkon when we destroy the lowlands! Can your lowland magic melt stone as well as ice?
Will you stay and wait, lowland fools? The walls are stone. They will not melt! (Laughs.)
The Jaws of Hakkon can hold this fortress until the winter snaps your bones!
The Jaws of Hakkon will bring death to you all!
Will you bring an army to breach these walls? We will destroy you all!
Your mother was a nug and your father smelled of elfroot!
Party comments:
Solas: This fortress is too well-fortified for a direct assault! We must find some other way inside! Perhaps Kenric will have a suggestion! (Or) Perhaps the Avvar at Stone-Bear Hold will have a suggestion!
Dorian: I don't see us breaching these walls. Could we try something else? Perhaps Kenric will have a suggestion! (Or) Perhaps our new friends at Stone-Bear Hold will have some ideas!
Cassandra: The fortress is too well-defended! We must find another way in! Perhaps Kenric will have some idea! (Or) The Avvar at Stone-Bear Hold may have ideas!
Blackwall: We cannot take this fortress in a direct assault. We must find another way! Perhaps Kenric will know something! (Or) The Avvar at Stone-Bear Hold have no love for these Hakkonites! They may have an idea!
Sera: Up the front isn't working. Find a different hole! (Laughs) I hate other people's arrows! Tell Kenric this won't work! (Or) We need friends! The Stone-Bears hate this lot—get them!
Varric: I don't think we're taking this fortress with a direct assault! Can we talk about it with Kenric maybe, somewhere we aren't being shot at? (Or) Anybody got a better idea? The Avvar at Stone-Bear Hold might have some ideas!
Iron Bull: No way we take this place by force! We need another plan! Maybe Kenric can tell us something! (Or) What about Stone-Bear Hold? Anybody can get in, it'll be them!
Cole: Too strong, too many! We need a different way! Kenric sent us here! He can send us somewhere else! (Or) The Avvar at Stone-Bear Hold! They want to help!
Vivienne: We are ill-equipped for a siege, my dear! Perhaps a change of tactics? Perhaps Kenric will have a suggestion! (Or) Our new friends at Stone-Bear Hold may be of some use!
(In case you have come across the Old Temple prior to this questline, you’ll still find it protected by a wall of ice, but with no clues how to dispel it, so you might hear some comments from your companions.)
Party comments:
Dorian: A wall of ice. Lovely. I don't see any way through for now.
Sera: Well. Not your normal... giant wall of ice. Maybe leave it alone?
Solas: This wall is magical in nature. Curious, though I see no way through at the moment.
Vivienne: This is obviously magical, and just as obviously impassable for now.
(Report back to Kenric after you took care of the ice-wall.)
General: I disabled the fortress wards.
PC: I used the trail markers to disable the wards on the Tevinter fortress. Unfortunately, the Jaws of Hakkon hold the fortress.
Kenric: The Hakkonites? Oh dear. That's going to make it difficult to study the area. Lady Harding discussed the other Avvar. They haven't been hostile. Do you think they might help? I'm sorry I don't have anything more useful. I like battles when they've been over for a few ages.
