Okay, I'm going to ramble to you about a theory I have, please excuse me.
So, a couple years ago when Letterboxd was reaching peak interest among people, Netflix made an Instagram post about each of the Stranger Things's characters top four movies.
Steve's top movie, I believe, was Animal House. Eddie's was Spinal Tap. Dustin's was The Neverending Story. Just so you know what I'm talking about.
Right. Anyway, they said Robin's number one favorite movie would be The Apartment (1960). This makes sense for her, as she likes black and white film, she's obviously big into film. So, kudos to Netflix for being on the dot, I suppose. Now, I just watched this movie tonight, I totally see the appeal. It's my favorite now, too.
But...I noticed something.
This is the main love interest in The Apartment, her name is Fran Kubelik:

She falls in love with the wrong guys, she's unhappy in the relationship she's in (I won't spoil the relationship she's in, so go watch this or look up spark notes or something), she's in love with the guy, but the guy doesn't love her. She tells the main character, C.C. Braxter, that she wishes she could love somebody like him because he's so nice. He rambles a lot, knows a lot of (almost pointless) information, feels hopeless in his romantic endeavors, is on his own—no family, no spouse, not a lot of friends—ultimately very unhappy with how his life is going.
Anyway. I, for one, think C.C. fits Robin's description quite a bit. Not in a lot of ways, but some key components of the character's personality and life match Robin's outlook on her own life. And, I got to thinking, well, who does Fran remind me of...
May I present Vickie, Robin's crush in season 4:

Now, Vickie is stuck in an unhappy relationship. At least from what I remember. She loves her boyfriend, her boyfriend isn't very into her...that kind of thing. She gets caught out by Robin in the military surplus store, which semi-resembles a major plot point in The Apartment (seriously, go watch it or look up what happens; I'm not spoiling it for you). But then, at the end of the season, she talks to Robin about being happy because she broke up with her boyfriend, and that makes Robin even more interested in talking to Vickie (which resembles another big plot point in The Apartment).
Another thing I noticed, though, is that Vickie and Fran resemble each other physically. The makeup, the fucking hair, even the facial structures are very similar. I mean...if The Apartment is Robin's favorite movie of all time...then, Fran has to be her lesbian awakening—yeah? Or maybe even first celebrity crush? Or maybe she just likes Fran because Fran reminds her of Vickie? Or what if she likes Vickie because Fran is her type?
My theory is that Robin loves The Apartment, yes absolutely, but also she likes Vickie because she has a fangirl crush on Fran.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, apologies for the ramble. I will go now.
Also, again, go watch The Apartment, it's free on Tubi with ads. (Everything on Tubi is free with ads. All you need is an account with an email and password. Go watch the damn movie.)
Also, also, I will say trigger warning for The Apartment if you do decide to watch it, there is a suicide attempt (that isn't shown, but the aftermath of that is), and a discussed suicide attempt. That's the only plot I'm spoiling. Now go watch it.
#stranger things#robin buckley#vickie stranger things#the apartment#fran kubelik#c.c. braxter#me rambling but please listen please please please

Fanfiction readers: I am begging you to create an AO3 account.
If you don't have one, you're likely missing out on some of the good stuff and don't even know it.
With the uptick in robo-plagiarism, AI scraping and bot abuse, more and more AO3 authors are setting their works so they are visible only to logged-in users (whether or not this actually prevents bots from accessing them is another discussion, but it is the current trend). This means when users without an account go to AO3 to look for something to read, a large percentage of potential matches do not appear in the search results. Nor can those users see that more stories exist, or even look up a locked work by author or title.
To demonstrate, I've locked my works to logged-in users only. Here's the Works count displayed on my public-facing author profile when I'm logged in:
And here's the Works count displayed on my author profile when I'm not logged in:
Even related works linked within the site will not display anything about the story, including its title. Here's how a translation link looks when logged in:
And the same story, when logged out:
To users without an account, those stories aren't only not readable, they're completely invisible.
Fortunately, it's easy to create an account. Just click the Invite Requests link below and enter your email address, and then follow the directions in the invite email when it arrives (usually in one to two weeks, depending on request backlog).
If there's a reason you don't want to/aren't allowed to receive AO3 email at your primary email account, you can make a free webmail account (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Hushmail, GMX, et al.) and use that to sign up. (Once your account has been created, you can also disable all future email communication from AO3.)
Then, if you click "Keep me logged in" when you sign into AO3 on your computer or mobile device, you will remain logged in on that device/browser indefinitely without needing to re-enter your password (though clearing cookies or updating your browser may require logging back in). You will also be able to view and comment on user-locked stories, curate your own bookmarks and collections, manage your reading history, customize your site skins and reading preferences, and more. There are also lots of privacy options.
I know it's an extra step to go through, but it's simple, it's free, and under the current onslaught of AI and bot nonsense, it's becoming a necessity.

FTX’s fund allocation draws market attention
1. **FTX’s fund allocation draws market attention**
Recently, FTX is distributing a total of $16 billion in funds, including $12 billion in cash. After this capital flows back into the market, it is expected to drive investors back into the market and trigger a new round of buying.
2. Global Liquidity Index and Market Rebound
The correlation between the cryptocurrency market and global liquidity is becoming increasingly clear. Whenever the global liquidity index reaches current levels, the market usually follows a strong rally.
3. Future Potential of Ethereum ETF
Although the Ethereum ETF is progressing slowly, its prospects are still exciting. As time goes by, this field is expected to achieve a faster pace of development.
4. BlackRock’s BUILD Fund Outlook
In addition to ETFs, the optimistic attitude of BlackRock, the world's largest asset management company, towards blockchain technology cannot be ignored. The BUILD fund is a reflection of this attitude, and it is only the beginning of its layout in this field.
5. Goldman Sachs’ Tokenization Plan
Not only BlackRock, but other large institutions such as Goldman Sachs are also actively embracing tokenization technology. This trend shows the growing recognition of blockchain technology by traditional financial institutions.
6. The impact of the US election on the crypto market
Trump’s campaign dynamics have a potentially positive impact on the cryptocurrency market. Due to his administration’s support for the crypto industry, the market is paying close attention to his campaign performance.
7. Market expectations of rate cuts
The market generally expects that there may be three interest rate cuts this year, among which the probability of a 25 basis point rate cut in September is as high as 90%.
8. Ordinary investors remain on the sidelines
Despite the gradual recovery in the market, Google search volume for “cryptocurrency” and “Bitcoin” remains at low levels. In addition, the Coinbase application is only ranked 416th, showing that ordinary investors still have a strong wait-and-see mood.
9. **Key Support Level for US Dollar Index**
The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) has continued to trend lower over the past few months and is now close to a key support level. If this support level is breached, it could have a significant positive impact on the cryptocurrency market.
10. **Bearish factors fading**
The main reasons for the previous market sell-off, such as the MtGox incident, the German Bitcoin sell-off, Jump Trading’s market operations, recession concerns and geopolitical conflicts, seem to be gradually subduing, which has brought more optimistic expectations to the market.

New Wi-Fi is Coming to City Soon!
Upgraded Wi-Fi is coming to City Soon!
Yay! The District is in the process of improving campus Wi-Fi!. You will soon be able to see 3 new networks: Guest, SDCCD Connect (students/faculty/staff) and SDCCD-IHOT
*They are starting with AH & BT in October. They are still working out the kinks, so it might take a bit more time for everyone to be able to access it and for it to be installed throughout campus. You can also contact IT Helpdesk (619) 388-7000 for assistance or submit a help ticket
For detailed information on logging into the new wifi networks
Guest Access : Turn on your wifi on your device to search for available networks. For public access, people can use the “SDCCD-Campus Connect-Guest” network. It will go to an SDCCD splash page where the user can read/accept and connect. It will stay connected for a maximum of 4 hours.
Students: Students can also connect to the “SDCCD-Campus Connect” network by using their myportal credentials (10 digit student ID/password)
Faculty/Staff: Connect to the “SDCCD-Campus Connect” network using your sdccd email/password
Troubleshooting:
Many thanks to SDCE’s Dr. Ingrid Greenberg & Professor Eric Miller, and the SDCCD IT Staff for providing these resources!
You may need to “forget” the old citywireless network to get it to work better on your device. keep in mind that “forgetting” a particular WiFi signal doesn’t remove it or prevent you from using it. "Forgetting" a WiFi signal just forces your device to make a fresh configuration if you choose to use it again.
Tutorial: How to “forget” a network
What if my students or I still have problems with campus WiFi?
Contact the District Service Desk portal help.sdccd.edu. Click on "Report an IT Issue". Complete the form & click "Submit". The more detailed information you provide, the better.Tutorial: screenshots of steps
*Please remind students to check their district student email regularly because all school notifications & responses are sent to their sdccd student email.
What are some resources I can share with students about student email and MFA?
Check out the district Student Email and O365 website. There are some recently added videos and updates.

You listened to Neville prattle on about the new painting that was replacing the Fat Lady. The two of you were in the Herbology classroom, earlier than everyone else. You chuckled as you replaced the soil of the old wiggentree that you had been tending to. The tree had gotten better under your care.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous,” Neville complained. “He changes the password almost every hour.”
“Well, if you’re ever shut out then come down to my House’s common room. I’ll let you in.”
Neville gave you a small thanks but went right back to his complaining. The two of you only shut up when Professor Sprout and the other students walked into the classroom. Herbology, unlike Care of Magical Creatures, got more interesting as the school year seemed to go on. It was only a few days after Halloween and you were sure there was plenty of time left for the class to become a chore. But currently, you were enjoying it.
It wasn’t that you weren’t enjoying Care of Magical Creatures but after the incident with Malfoy, Hagrid became unsure of his own teaching abilities. He began to stick to more textbook teachings and uninteresting creatures. Even after your cousin agreed to lay off the jokes about Hagrid— at least in the half-giant’s presence— it didn’t boost Hagrid’s confidence much. Either way, both of those classes were your favorite no matter how much they kept your interest. Both Hagrid and Professor Sprout said you had a talent for creatures and plants.
The day you got those compliments was the day you focused even more on those classes. It was only your first year at Hogwarts and you were only a third year but you began to seriously think about your future. For the longest, as a Squib, you accepted that you would eventually either leave the wizarding world to live a muggle life and have a muggle job. Or, you could get a job in Diagon Alley or any restaurant really as a waitress.
Neither option was exactly what you wanted— muggle job or waitressing— but for the longest you didn’t believe that you had many options. Professor Sprout and Hagrid gave you a new outlook. Currently, you were more focused on the plants but as the weather warmed up again you decided you would take that time to look at creatures. You could always do what they did. Or maybe run a plant shop. That idea tickled you very much.
You began to envision a plant shop in Diagon Alley. If it lived long enough, you would keep the old wiggentree in the display case at the front of the shop. The thought made you smile so much the entire day that you didn’t notice, as you sat down next to Hermione, that Professor Lupin was missing. Only when you opened your book and looked up did you see Professor Snape in front of you. You had a note from Professor Flitwick on why you were late— not that you would have to even show it if it was Professor Lupin. As you dug around your bag for the note, Snape stepped right in front of you and Hermione’s desk. He didn’t wait for your note or even seemed interested in it. Instead, your wand was placed on your desk, rolling towards you rather lazily.
“You would do well to keep better track of your wand, Ms. Black. And if you got here on time then you would see that we are on page three hundred and ninety-four… two points from Hufflepuff.”
You rubbed at your temples. Draco, who was sitting behind you, tapped your shoulder. He wore an apologetic look on his face when you turned around.
“Don’t feel bad, he’s usually worse than that.”
“I’m only mildly intolerable, then. That makes me feel loads better, Draco.”
He silently laughed. “That’s pretty good for anyone not in Slytherin.”
You gave your cousin a playful pinch on his hand but also smiled before turning back around. You were shocked when you turned to the correct page to see werewolves. Even Hermione was confused, voicing that much to Professor Snape. But the professor didn’t seem to care too much and began his lesson anyway. If you thought Professor Snape was bad in Potions then he was down right awful as a teacher of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Every question he asked was meant to confuse you all. Any time Hermione raised her hand, he blatantly ignored her until she got so fed up she answered anyway.
“This is the last time you will talk out of turn today, Ms. Granger. Or do you feel the need to let everyone know that you are aware of the answer because you seem to pride yourself on being an insufferable know it all. Fifty points from Gryffindor.”
Her hand slowly sank down into her lap. You rubbed Hermione’s back in comfort. The male half of the Golden Quartet looked behind to see you squeezing Hermione’s shoulder and trying to make her feel better. Ron shook his head and spoke up before Snape could resume his teaching.
“Clearly Hermione ’s the only one who knows the answer, you just won’t call on her. Why ask a question if you don’t want an answer to it.”
Snape abruptly turned around with a sneer on his face that could curdle milk.
“Detention, Mr. Weasley. Sixty points from Gryffindor and if another member of your House so much as whispers another word out of turn, you will be losing all of your House points.”
Draco leaned over his desk to whisper in your ear. “Told you it could be worse.”
It did, in fact, get worse. Snape assigned two rolls of parchment on werewolves because he felt that none of you seemed to quite grasp the importance of being able to identify a werewolf. You weren’t sure why the man was so invested in this particular lesson. You complained in the kitchen to Kreacher as you worked on the homework. You were looking through your textbook for more information, coming across the section on full moons. The thought hit you at once. You remembered watching Professor Lupin step in front of Harry and the boggart changing into the full moon very briefly. Not caring if the rest of your essay was good, you quickly scribbled a conclusion and begged Kreacher for two large mugs of hot chocolate.
The house elf was more than happy to complete requests. You had often asked Kreacher why he didn’t just leave when he thought the whole Black family to be gone— you even gifted him a sweater when it shrunk in the laundry. But the now technically free house elf simply wore the sweater as if it was his uniform. Kreacher barely accepted the money you gave him when you decided that if he was to stay he needed to be paid like a proper employee. He only took one galleon out of the large amount you gave him so you started giving him one galleon a week— a compromise for both of you.
Kreacher handed you the two mugs of hot chocolate and you jumped down from the island. It was past curfew. The only reason you even came to the kitchens was because it was so close to the Hufflepuff common room— plenty of students did that and were always allowed, Professor Sprout turning a blind eye. But you had never ventured farther than right around the corner. This was an adventure for you. The castle was so quiet that you were sure you could hear a rat sneeze. You snuck through the halls of Hogwarts on tiptoe.
“Someone is out past curfew.”
You gasped as you heard the spell of Lumos. The weird frozen pose you had put yourself in straightened out when you saw it was just Lupin.
“Professor, just the person I was looking for.”
Lupin blinked twice. “(Y/N)? Did you not just hear me say you are breaking cur—”
“I know about your… monthly afflictions?”
You tried to come up with a phrase that wouldn’t air out the man’s business in the openness of Hogwarts. Lupin understood and ushered you towards his office that he had just come from. You both sat on top of his desk, Lupin picking at his frayed cardigan.
“How do you know?” He asked, hesitantly.
“Professor Snape’s lesson wasn’t exactly going for subtlety. Here.”
You practically thrusted the drink into the professor’s hand. He stared down at it.
“I haven’t had chocolate in so long, it used to be my favorite treat as a child. No one tells you about that part… that you’d be allergic to chocolate just like a dog.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t th—”
Lupin chuckled. “It’s alright to indulge just a bit. One tiny drink won’t kill me.”
“Professor…”
“I should apologize,” Lupin cut you off. “For the other night. That was uncalled for, of me to throw being a squib back in your face. God, your father would kill me for being such a dud.”
Lupin winced at his own word choice but you didn’t mind. You looked into your cup, taking another sip.
“Professor, you told me not to go looking for my father because you’re not sure if he’s innocent, are you?”
“I’m sorry, (Y/N). I want to believe him but…”
“There’s no good proof to say otherwise.”
Lupin nodded. “Just Sirius’ word and the pinky of a dead man.”
“Pinky of a dead man?”
“Peter Pe— we were all friends at Hogwarts. The four of us. Me, James, Sirius, and Peter. They called us the Marauders, James suggested adopting the name. Ha, we used to run the school absolutely wild— especially James and Sirius. They grew up, eventually, but Hogwarts was never boring while they attended.”
Lupin began to reminisce while you finished your hot chocolate. You didn’t interrupt for fear that he would become aware that he was telling you everything and would suddenly stop. The stories made you feel like you were getting to truly know who your dad was— the good and the bad.
You also realized that you were right about Professor Snape. Your dad and Harry’s didn’t make the man’s life easy at Hogwarts— even if he deserved some of it from what Lupin said. The disdain for your fathers was passed on to you and Harry, especially Harry who looked so much like James. You decided to accept that fact and would still work hard in Potions but no longer attempt to get on Snape’s good side.
Professor Lupin finished his drink, itching a little at the mild reaction he was having to the chocolate. He escorted you back to your common room in order for you to avoid getting in trouble. You tried your best to get in your bed without disturbing Padfoot who had decided to sleep right on the edge of your duvet. The heavy rain started the minute your head hit your pillow. You groaned because in a few hours everyone was supposed to be watching the first quidditch match of the season. It was still going to happen. Rain or shine, quidditch was going to happen. But now, you had to watch the game while being rained on.
The rain didn’t stop as you made your way to the stands. You tried to spot Ron, Hermione, or even Neville across the field on the Gryffindor side but had no luck spotting them through the sea of red and gold. You did however spot Draco. Ravenclaw and Slytherin could sit wherever they wanted depending on who they were cheering for. Most of Slytherin was sitting on the Hufflepuff side. Your cousin had an empty seat next to him and you realized he had left it open for you— Blaise, Crabbe, Goyle, and Pansy were all sitting around him. With a smile, you forced yourself to skip over to Draco who seemed to almost regret saving you a space just because you looked so happy.
“Your good mood is annoying in this weather,” he muttered before pulling out a container of pumpkin pasties from his coat.
At that moment, anyone looking at the two of you could tell you were related. You both wore the same tight frowns, shivering slightly at the bitter cold rain, with your heads tilted slightly up and to the side to watch the game. You two even ate the same— holding the pasty in your left hand and taking what could be mistaken as angry bites of the treat. Quidditch, even in pouring rain, was much more entertaining with a bunch of other students around.
You finished the first pumpkin pasty just as Madame Hooch called a timeout at the Hufflepuff team’s request. Poppy came up to you as you and Draco were splitting the second pumpkin pasty— not sure if either of you wanted to eat another whole one. You smiled and offered her a bite which she refused. Finding your own friends meant you didn’t spend much time with Poppy but neither of you felt awkward or uncomfortable about it. You would always be bonded by Mr. Stapius’ orphanage. The times you went to go see your cousin in the Slytherin common room, you also went to visit Poppy. And you figured that during games— as long as it wasn’t Slytherin against Hufflepuff— the two of you could sit next to each other and catch up. The game started up again, Gryffindor ahead but not by much. Your eyes squinted as you looked at the gray cloudy sky seeing a blob followed by several black and grey masses.
“Is that Potter?”
The minute the words left Draco’s mouth, you fled the stands. There was nothing you could but do but stand at the edge of the field as you watched someone’s wand— either a professor or Hermione— cast a spell to prevent Harry from breaking his neck before he hit the ground. You heard Lee Jordan announcing Cedric caught the snitch and Hufflepuff’s win but didn’t care— scrambling behind the cot that was carrying Harry to Madame Pomfrey. You briefly caught Cedric’s eye when he landed. The older boy looked confused as to what was going on, eyes widening when he finally saw the injured Harry. News quickly spread throughout the castle in hushed whispers as the students ran back inside to avoid more of the rain’s onslaught.
Somewhere between getting Harry on the stretcher, Dumbledore’s absolute anger at the dementors, and the entire team rushing to see what happened, you got stuck behind everyone trying to see Harry to the infirmary. At first, your feet tried to keep up with everyone else until you remembered Harry’s stuff. All the Quidditch players left their wands in the barracks so as not to lose them during the game.
You were positive that someone could probably collect his stuff but you figured that you might as well be the one to do it. It wasn’t like he wouldn’t still be in the infirmary when you got there. Hopefully, he would be awake— you tried to ignore the questions of if he was dead because it looked like he wasn’t even breathing. Harry’s wand was easy to find. It was laying right on the first bench when you got there. His broom, that you almost forgot about, was more difficult. It wasn’t anywhere on the field.
You knew when you saw Harry fall his broom was no longer with him. A small shape, too small to be a dementor, was near him for a moment before being whisked away to the left. That might have been his broom. You began to walk left from the quidditch pitch, looking for the broom. It was nowhere on the wet ground. You stood with your hands on your hips, looking around lost. The rustle of branches got your attention and you looked behind you to see that you were near the Whomping Willow— almost in its attack range. You took a few steps back just to be safe. Those few steps allowed you to get a better picture of the tree. That better picture was the Nimbus 2000 in absolute shreds between the branches of the tree. You flicked your wet braids out of your face and huffed.
The broom was in absolute shambles but you still wanted to get it. Basic herbology books had information on the Whomping Willow. You began to look for the small knot at the base of the tree that if pressed would momentarily immobilize the tree. It continued to punch the broom into pieces as you looked. A growl made you stop your search.
Through a hollow in the willow tree, you could see a pair of glowing eyes. A shaggy, black dog emerged from the darkness. It seemed to almost know who you were as it looked at you. The dog stalked along the tree until it approached the knot that you were searching for, hitting it with its snout. The Whomping Willow’s branches froze up immediately and the broom— in all of its pieces— dropped to the ground. You began to collect the pieces quickly before the tree could come back to life. The dog bounded over with a piece of the broom in its mouth, dropping it in your hand.
“Thank you.”
It came out more like a question than an answer. The rustle of leaves caught your attention once again and you quickly scrambled away from the tree’s line of attack. You looked behind you once more to try and get a glimpse of the shaggy dog before continuing to the infirmary. The Gryffindor quidditch team was leaving just as you arrived. They winced as they passed you, seeing the Nimbus 2000 in shambles. You strolled in to see Madame Pomfrey walking away from Harry and into your office. You set the broomstick pieces on Harry’s lap before taking a seat on the edge of his bed. Harry grabbed his wand that was on top of the pile and set it on the nightstand next to his hospital bed.
“That was terrifying, Harry. We all thought you died.”
“I think I’ve faced worse… I think.”
“Yeah, I heard about last year. Sorry about your broom, the Whomping Willow got to it before anyone else.”
The boy sighed and picked at the pieces, stating that it was alright. He seemed tired. You supposed that after everyone visiting and falling from nearly fifty feet you would also be tired. He should get some rest. You took one look at Harry’s face and practically launched yourself at him to give him a hug. His arms wrapped around your body rather weakly.
“Get some rest.”
“Will do,” he muttered.
Harry looked a lot better when you saw him in class on Monday. Monday schedules meant that not only did you have Defense Against the Dark Arts before your free time— like it was every day except Thursday when it was Care of Magical Creatures before your free— but it also meant that it was the last class of the day in your schedule. You appreciated that you had a fairly straightforward schedule, considering some students’ schedules were all over the place.
Herbology started every single one of your mornings. After that it was Potions and then Transfiguration— except for Tuesdays and Thursdays when instead of Potions you had Ancient Runes and Astronomy instead of Transfiguration. On Mondays and Tuesdays, History of Magic was after lunch. Every other day it was Care of Magical Creatures. Charms, except for Thursday, was always after Hagrid’s class. Then came Defense Against the Dark Arts and then your free time. Of course, there were oddities but not nearly as much as some schedules— you had seen Cedric’s once and nearly went cross-eyed. On Tuesday, Muggle Studies replaced your free after Lupin’s class because you just had to take an extra elective. And Thursdays were when your free went after Hagrid’s class, History of Magic came before Charms, and you had Astronomy again in the evening to put into practice what you learned in the classroom. Aside from Thursday, the schedule was easy and you appreciated that.
But it was Monday, so Defense Against the Dark Arts was last and you were glad to see Harry finally leave the infirmary to attend. Even though he just got out of the hospital, he still wanted to take his after class lesson with Professor Lupin. You jumped in your seat when a chest started moving almost violently. After Harry’s incident, Professor Lupin decided it was time to teach the boy about dementors.
“Of course, a real dementor would be outrageously irresponsible of me,” Lupin said. “It is simply a boggart but it will work nonetheless. The spell is Expecto Patronum. (Y/N), repeat it too.”
“Expecto Patronum,” you said.
Both Harry and Lupin laughed as you waved your wand with a roll of your eyes. Lupin pointed at your wand.
“I think I saw some magic.”
“Very funny, Professor… but what exactly is a dementor?”
“A fifth year topic,” Lupin started. “They shouldn’t have even been that close to the grounds. Dementors are dark, miserable, creatures you two. That’s why they’re the perfect guards of Azkaban. They feed on your joy until only dark and miserable thoughts are left. It’s enough to make anyone go mad.”
You snapped your textbook shut— Harry didn’t notice but Lupin did. The man cleared his throat and began teaching Harry the lesson. You wished you never asked your teacher the question. That was what they did to your father. Your fingers were going numb with how tightly you gripped the textbook at the thought that for twelve years he was tormented by dementors. While Lupin and Harry were distracted with their lesson, you walked over to the professor’s desk and grabbed another piece of chocolate. You paused when you saw the wolfsbane potion sitting next to everything. Sometimes, you wondered how much pain Professor Lupin must be in— not that you would ever bring it up to him.
Despite being a squib and having no use for remembering much of Lupin and Harry’s lessons, the spell ‘expecto patronum’ was stuck in your head. You found yourself muttering it and scribbling it in the corners of your notebook. That’s what you realized when you finally snapped out of it in the middle of Transfiguration class.
You were supposed to be learning about Animagi and there you were scribbling about dementors. Focusing on class again, you listened to McGonagall talk and even demonstrate her Animagus ability. The rest of the class cleared out the minute they were dismissed. You stayed behind to help Professor McGonagall put up the textbooks and other supplies that everyone had left. Magic could be used but whenever you were the student that stayed behind, McGonagall tended to do things ‘the muggle way’ as she liked to call it.
“Professor?” you questioned as you picked up a book. “You said students could register as Animagi?”
“Yes, Ms. Black but the task is so arduous, few do. As far as I know, there are still only seven Animagi registered to the Wizarding World. Well, the British Wizarding World.”
You finished your reorganization of the books. “I would like to try.”
McGonagall turned around, flustered. “M-ms. Black, that is not a simpl— it require— even the most—”
“I know I’m not the most skilled witch. But when you think about it, there’s not as much magic involved as other spells. And my magic has improved, Harry smiled slightly when I performed the Cheering Charm yesterday and not because he was pretending for my sake but I actually did it,” you began to ramble.
Professor McGonagall moved to her desk. For a moment, you thought she was dismissing you. Instead, she was pulling out a small glass box that contained mandrake leaves. She prepared every year for students to say they want to try only to be slightly disappointed but not surprised when either no one did or they gave up before even getting to the potion making part. She rifled through the leaves looking for a small one with no blemishes. Finding the one she wanted, she held it up.
“You understand, Ms. Black, you must keep this under your tongue for a month. Until the next full moon, no exceptions.”
You nodded and the minute the mandrake leaf was in your hand, you gently placed it underneath your tongue. Your face scrunched up in displeasure for a moment. The leaf had a bitter taste at first. McGonagall chuckled as she watched you talk to her, the leaf making a brief appearance anytime your tongue rose up. With a smile, you skipped out of the classroom and headed to lunch.

Hi I'm trying to de google my life as much as possible, please tell me about secure emails, also, no clue if you can help me with this but, I have made every account I own using gmail... is there a way to transfer that information onto a different one, or am I doomed to start over...
Feel free to ignore the second part if you don't know
Hi!
Ok, so secure email. I'll start with that makes email non secure.
Basically, gmail and most other major mainstream email providers (outlook, yahoo, etc) can (and do) read the contents of your emails, so they can use that information to advertise. Personally I think that's creepy and invasive.
So to have a secure/private email provider, they would need to know as little as possible about the contents of your emails while still being able to deliver them correctly. At first you might think 'ah, so just find a provider that says they don't read your emails!' and that would be a good start, but what then happens if they get bought or their policy changes or their database gets hacked, or they get a request from a government who may or may not be friendly to your ideology?
That's why what you want is a provider that can't, like technologically, mathematically cannot possibly read the contents of your emails. That means even if an attacker got their hands on the entire database they wouldn't have a single word of the content of your emails. To achieve that you need an encrypted email provider. They store your messages encrypted such that only your account can decrypt them.
Obviously if the other recipient of your email is still using google then google can still see it, encrypted mail works better the more people use it, so your move will improve things, and anyone you can bring with you makes it that much better.
In terms of specific providers to use, I have a strong personal preference for Proton, they do a VPN, encrypted email, encrypted calendar, and encrypted cloud storage (like google drive). I can't recommend them enough, and for average personal email use their free tier is well and truly al the functionality you need.
As for the second part of your question: moving your accounts away from your old email will vary for every account you want to move. All you'll need to do on most accounts is open up your profile settings and change the email listed, then probably go through a 'confirm your email' process like you would have when you signed up. Then your account will continue on just as it was, but the associated email will be your new one. Each one will likely take only a few minutes, but if you have 10s or 100s of accounts across the web then it starts to get a little time consuming. What I can recommend is doing the obvious ones first, and then just keeping an eye out in your day to day web surfing for accounts you haven't swapped over yet. Do them when you come across them, and you'll get through all the things you use in an average month in about a month.
(While you're doing that it's a great chance to get all your login details into a password manager and make the passwords strong and unique, if you haven't already done that! I use and recommend bitwarden but there are plenty of decent options out there)
You will find some sites are hard or even impossible to change the email on. There are a lot of reasons for that, most of them related to bad or lazy design choices on the part of the site developers. If it's something you really care about then it might be worth contacting support for the site to see if you can change it over, if not, some things will have to start over, that's unfortunately just how it is.
Hope that helps!

Defense on being different - Firefox
I decided that I'd start my own post rather than hijacking the other, since I don't think that person actually WANTS to be talked into firefox*.
But I wanted to recommend that people get firefox as a backup browser even if they don't plan to use it (though I do encourage it's use!)
This is because of my experience as the escalation for "hey we've got another weird one" IT problems; and how Firefox just works differently from other browsers.
Once upon a time, a client saw me installing firefox as part of their standard organisation set up they queried "why would you bother".
But they also understood completely I explained the following: - Because Firefox works a different way than other browsers, it will sometimes work with connecting people to the internet when a bunch of other apps are broken. So sometimes we can use firefox to get a client online while IT works to solve the issue.
Case where this has occurred for me personally!
There's a problem with windows "internet options". Teams, Zoom, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome and all Chrome clones all tap into the windows settings for internet options. But firefox does not. This means if there is a problem in the internet options, firefox will continue to work but all of those other programs will be broken. ** This happened to me a lot about a decade ago when I was dealing with the aftermath of some rogue proxies being installed in the internet options on all these different individual business computers that used the same ISP, though I've run into it in different ways. If we discount the weird ISP (which was hundreds) then certainly at least a dozen times in the past decade. So not a daily problem by any means, but if you're in IT long enough you might run into it, if you don't just try reinstalling the OS and all network settings.
Firefox also uses a different way of accessing certificates, which meant that some computers with certificate issues couldn't access the web or could only access pages insecurely (see apps listed in point 1 for what was affected) but they could work normally in Firefox at least. I can name three of my clients where this has happened in the past decade specifically for certificates, one of which was just this year in May (2022).
Given that I support my clients primarily remotely it was a real lifesaver as I could get them to grant me access through Firefox and then I could fix it for them on the phone without having to figure out how to get to them if they were not nearby.
And for people who are saying that's all windows - the equivalent has happened on macs too, where something weird occurred in Safari and Firefox was the simple and easy fix to get the client working before the real fix could be implemented.
Especially since there's no way to fix some of the Safari issues without reinstalling the OS on the macs since it's a default inbuilt app. Also some of the other mac things run on top of Safari's webkit so if that's broken other things will be too.
I mention reinstalling the OS, that's what a lot of my cohort who work in more standardized IT environment would do, but due to my unusual client base and the fact that I often do adhoc support, I often don't have it as an easy option. Plus, reformatting takes time, so even if it's an option sometimes I want to keep the client limping a long until 5:00 pm.
So when people are saying that Firefox is important to the ecosystem with how it's maintaining independence from Chrome and Safari - this applies in a bunch of ways!
Basically, please install firefox even if you don't think you'll use it, as it might just save the day with getting you online when everything else is broken.
I do also want to stress, it's pretty easy to move to firefox if you're only concerned about data. Things like, cookies, browsing history, saved passwords and bookmarks - even if you have a lot of folders etc are SUPER easy to bring across. Appearance is harder, firefox has locked down some of the options that used to make it the most customizable in changing how it looked and felt, but there are a lot of good addons and themes out there to help make it more effective for you.
It also might be less of a shock the switch if you use it for a different purpose. For example if you're using it as your ebook reader to avoid the tabs getting mixed up with normal browsing etc, and then as you build up experience with it, it becomes more comfortable making it the primary browser.

Now and then, I have this habit of taking some time to reminisce about things. I’m one of those people who tend to stick to old favorites, staying passionate about said things even if I don’t actively engage with the fandom anymore; they’ll always have a place in my heart and I think of these things I love on a regular basis.
One of these things is the VocaUTAU fandom, which I interacted with a lot back in the day as Ritsu Namine’s RPer here on Tumblr.
Ritsu still is my favorite virtual singer of all - I still listen to many of the songs and covers - it’s amazing to see how far the character and his voice provider have come; and it’s tons of fun to remember all the moments I had interpreting him and doing my own PV projects (despite being terrible at tuning USTs!), fanarts and even going as far as to do cosplay.
These are definitely happy memories that I cherish. And when I’m going through hard times, I tend to think about such things.
This was my first post in Ritsu’s blog; 12 years ago! It’s truly amusing to revisit all the posts and even cringe at myself a little thanks to my own immaturity (and slightly incorrect English) in both IC and OOC. Many of those posts were rather chaotic...
Though I still quite like how I interpreted him back in the day, ahaha.
I still feel like Ritsu is part of me, the petty, child-like and somewhat stubborn part of me. He also was my very first experience with an openly queer character and I feel like that helped broaden my horizons and understand things better as well; though I already was pretty aware I was sapphic, the concept of gender was a somewhat late reveal!
Looking back now, it makes a lot of sense why it felt so comfortable to interpret him.
I lost the access to Ritsu’s account as the email it used was deleted by Outlook due to inactivity, and Tumblr had the amazing idea of not giving people an alternative to log back into their accounts after the data leak that forced users to change their password - something that required the email originally linked to the blog in question.
The old URL I had before changing to ritsu73, namineritsu, is linked in the old RP HQ blog. See that Namine Ritsu? It was me! I don’t know who’s the current owner of that URL, though.
As for the current URL, ritsu73... I’ve been holding it as a sideblog of mine, since Tumblr adds a “-blog” to the URL of blogs that’ve gone inactive - as you can see on my posts linked in this small text. I probably won’t do anything with it, but I can’t seem to let it go due to my attachment to the blog and the memories I have thanks to it.
If you have read until now, thank you so much for your attention! I don’t know if you have come across Ritsu’s blog in the past when it was active 12 years ago, or if you happened to find some post while searching or if you hadn’t even heard of it until now...
...but still, it’s really nice of you to stay and read through my long, reminiscing babbling. I appreciate it, truly.

Thess vs IT ‘Upgrades’
I am The Office Nerd. In all the ways. Like, all of them. But for the moment, we focus on the fact that I am the only one in my office who knows shit from dick about computers. And I don’t even know that much - enough to build my own rig if the mood takes me, and some basics about components and what’s good and what’s not, but that’s about it. Seriously, though? WAY more than anyone else in my office knows.
This comes up now because ... well, see, we have two computers - one we don’t really use, and one we do. The one we do use is connected to the hospital’s system, so all hardware and software upgrades are at the mercy of NHS procurement policies and shit. Now, given the current economic climate, and the fact that the NHS is getting it severely in the neck no matter how you look at it, you wouldn’t expect them to be upgrading at all. Except they’ve been putting off upgrading for a very long time now. How long? Well, put it this way - we were running Windows 7. So it’s been at least a decade since we had a software upgrade, and we wouldn’t even be having one now if Microsoft hadn’t declared it would no longer support Windows 7. So we needed to upgrade to Windows 10, and because our machines barely ran Windows 7, we had to have a full hardware upgrade, too. Except we also had to not spend much money.
So here’s what they did. You know those little dinky budget boxes with the integrated graphics card that are incredibly hard to actually replace anything on if you have to? Well, yeah, they bought those. The CPU’s okay for running Windows 10, but it’s not going to survive another software upgrade particularly well. The peripherals are frankly garbage - there’s something wrong with the headphone jack on these models because we’re all struggling to hear the dictation we’re supposed to be typing. So frankly it’s not great. I hate those dinky pieces of garbage, but at least they’ve got RAM worth a shit for now.
What else did they do? Basically jack squat. Licenses for the Microsoft Office suite? Nope - it’s either use Wordpad and potentially lose formatting or end up with a crippled version of Word or whatever that lacks most of the functionality. Updated Outlook? Nope - we’re supposed to use the online version instead. We’re stuck on Chrome or Microsoft Edge because no one’s allowing us to download Firefox. Theoretically I can do my job without this stuff, but it’s way, way more awkward. So I’m a little frustrated and I may have gone off on something of a rant.
Best part? I was told at the end of last week that they’d be doing these so-called ‘upgrades’ soon. Except we didn’t have an exact date, so when I came into work this morning, there was that stupid piece-of-shit mini-box under my monitor, and I had no instructions on how to use the new login system. When I finally located the new dropdown menu and figured out which system I was supposed to have it set to when I entered user ID and password, it turned out that they hadn’t given me remote access to the company’s server, which I needed to do my damn job. The people who’d been doing the upgrades were still in the area but we couldn’t find them so I tried calling IT to see if they could pass on a message to the people working my floor. I got told, “Submit a ticket and they’ll get it”.
I spent an hour doing more or less nothing but getting frustrated with how this whole thing had been handled. Honestly, I wasn’t the only one. Everyone else had that issue either yesterday or earlier this morning and I guess that explains why there were over two hundred bits of typing in the group queue when I could finally access our transcription system - well, that and we’re approaching a four-day weekend because of the fucking platinum jubilee. So basically everything’s a mess.
I’m really hoping that it was just that Scruffman didn’t know the exact date of this upgrade because Head Honcho didn’t tell him, and not Scruffman just not bothering to drop us a fucking email. But honestly, either way? It’s nonsense. I did actually use Word to copy-paste often-repeated bits of dictation and now I have to open it in Wordpad and be grateful that none of it really uses formatting because the crippled, non-licensed version of Word won’t let you copy-paste. They just aren’t even bothering with Outlook, so we have to handle it via a poorly optimised browser.
This is not what I call an upgrade.
So, yeah, basically work was kinda shit. But at least I only have one more day before the long weekend. I’m not that much on the monarchy but I’ll gladly take the two days off. If I’m feeling up to it, I might even go and do things if stuff’s open. That’s if I can be sure of avoiding jubilee galas, or possibly protests. Either way, now that I’ve vented, I can go curl up and rest up to better tackle the unseemly backlog the IT ‘upgrade’ has left us with.
(I don’t blame IT or even the NHS that much, incidentally; I blame the Tory government that has underfunded the NHS so badly that we’re having to ration some software licensing and skip other bits of it altogether no matter how much of a hit productivity takes as a result. This just tortures admins by making their jobs harder, this license stinginess. UGH.)

fuck it. have the five page essay-ish thing i wrote on hoax.
it's so underrated and contains so many references to taylor's one great true love... that she lost.
(but there's also a bit about what the album cover means since i just think it adds to the evidence of something)
Let me take you on a journey, more specifically, the journey taylor’s music brought me to.
But fine for irl context, and disclaimer as well, I’m a new swiftie.
Yes, folklore was the one that really really pulled me in.
I’ve always loved her music, those that I knew of anyways, and she’s always held a special place in my heart and some part of me always knew that I was always going to explore her discography someday… and those days and months of exploring aforementioned music finally arrived.
So, for context, I’ll say that I mostly loved her bops. I always knew and loved her as that teenage girl feeling of wanderlust, and just wonder, and sweetness, and love…
That was what taylor was to me, the feeling of love.
It’s only when I very quite recently really really grew up and at the same time, taylor’s most popular music at the time, folklore, also happened to be really grown up, is when I realized and found out that taylor always had this depth to her.
So, for me, debut to speak now and half of red will always have that child-like wanderstruck look of awe and love vibe and feeling to me, cause nostalgia, it’s what I spent my life thinking of it and her as.
Also it’s been some time since I fully listened to those albums, so the journey/throughline narrative that I see from taylor’s discography is
Debut – young kid figuring it all out, emotional but sweet
Fearless – growth, ambition, dreams, complexity of wanting someone you know you’re not supposed to
Speak now – cinematic movie like quality of storytelling, these are fantasies, epics, novels all on their own, legend
Red – reckless abandon, intense extreme adult love, and also growth
1989 – true love, actual adulthood, scandal, gossip, hiding, protecting what’s important, dwindling mercurial highs
Rep - …
One thing that I started to notice only on 1989 and then it looked to be the case for the ff albums too, is that the latter half of one album oft bleeds onto the next one
So like the sound of I know places and even kinda wonderland to some extent, is very similar to reputation’s sound.
Then idk, new year’s day being a really sweet love song transitioning into lover
And then it’s nice to have a friend’s simple acoustic nostalgia & daylight’s nature imagery transitioning into folklore
And theeenn I’m betting the lakes as a positive song is a foreshadowing for the more softer positive outlook evermore is going to have, compared to folklore at least
But I honestly believe that if you look at the albums themselves, debut to speak now and red all seem to be about fleeting romances that pass and go
But 1989, that’s when things start to get real, and I believe, that’s when taylor really starts to get her muse…
Cause if you look at from 1989 to folklore evermore heck even to the rerelease of fearless and red…
These songs seem to be stemming from one relationship
A relationship that’s secret, that’s fragile and delicate, and complicated and complex
And correct me if I’m wrong, but…
Is king of my heart the first time taylor ever used the term, the one???
The one real thing you’ve ever known?? All too well
One touch you are in love??? One step one night
Point is, I think starting from 1989, most of the songs taylor wrote and sung about could all be attributed to just one person.
A tumultuous complex but nevertheless real and true love.
And I bring up the one connection because the one clearly parallels king of my heart
And all at once, YOU ARE THE ONE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR
why would taylor write about losing someone that she thought she was the one if the person you think it’s about is still supposedly with her when she wrote it?
And finally, in taylor’s announcement of folklore, she wrote about an exiled man walking the bluffs of a land that isn’t his own, wondering how it all went so terribly, terribly wrong.
And in its music video, you get the same imagery?
…
…
…
You know where, … you… also… get… the same… exact… imagery…?
The folklore album cover.
Where it’s taylor, walking, in the middle, so small in the grand vast bluffs of a land that wasn’t her own.
In every single music video for every folklore song, the only ONE, THE ONLY ONE, where you get the same imagery, the same color palette as the album cover, is exile.
Which is about someone, a man walking the bluffs of a land that isn’t his own.
So if taylor is the man, then she’s
I can see you standing, honey
With his arms around your body
Guess who she has a close relationship with, who betrayed her, who got married to someone else?
*regina george anger screaming*
Me is a breakup song.
Taylor rereleasing red second has so much more weight to it now.
“In the land of heartbreak, moments of strength, independence, and devil-may-care rebellion are intricately woven together with grief, paralyzing vulnerability and hopelessness.”
moments of strength, independence, and devil-may-care rebellion – me, I PROMISE THAT YOU’LL NEVER FIND ANOTHER LIKE ME.
WATCH MISS AMERICANA AND I DARE YOU TO NOT SEE ME AS A SPITEFUL/VINDICTIVE/REBELLIOUS BREAK UP SONG
grief, paralyzing vulnerability and hopelessness – FOLKLORE.
Then I guess, fine… we’ll get to why hoax is so fucking meaningful yet you don’t understand why it is.
Yes, my only one.
Smoking gun.
I saw someone call this a reference to the fire and ash in mtr, but I also think of this as someone being your one weakness…
Think about it like this, in reputation
And what if the one person who kept you alive through all that
Betrayed you too.
Taylor talks so deeply and passionately over how much this person matters, they were her smoking gun.
Because they were what kept her going through the death of her reputation.
When no one trusted her that one person did.
They were her smoking gun.
My eclipsed sun.
Lover ended with daylight.
Taylor called reputation as night time.
And now what once was daylight has now been eclipsed over, by betrayal grief sadness desolation.
(darling this was just as hard as when they pulled me apart, folklore is as dark as rep)
Winless fight – ma & thp, fight that someday we’re gonna win.
They or she didn’t.
Frozen ground brings me back to holy ground and to doht, my love had been frozen
The imagery of hoax’s lv, is of a cliffside overlooking an ocean
Which brings me back to gorgeous, of OCEAN blue eyes looking in mine, I feel like I might sink and drown and die
Screaming, similar to mtr’s I still talk to you when I’m screaming at the sky
(sidenote might not related to taylor references, but that line gives me hopelessness give me a reason to live vibes, and what with gorgeous’ line of sink and drown and die and this is me trying’s Pulled the car off the road to the lookout Could've followed my fears all the way down…
Anw… the sidenote is cause that feeling of hopelessness just really resonates with me personally, kind of the type screaming at the universe, at whatever’s out there why… sigh…)
Faithless love – false god
Hoax – illicit afairs
Blue… rep (delicate)
Best laid plan – dbatc, paper cut stings from our paper thin plans
Sleight of hand???
Five whole minutes pack us up leave me with it???
Could barren land also be bluffs of a land that isn’t his own?? Idk… *shruggie*
Ash from your fire mtr
New york, DBATC, 1989, false god, cornelia street
Hero died, remember when I said I’d die for you? False god
What’s the movie for, exile, I think I’ve seen this film before
You knew it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart
Like I said, reputation… who was her saving grace/smoking gun from all that
THEY WERE THE ONE, THE ONLY ONE, TAYLOR HAD WHEN SHE WAS PULLED APART
SO THEY KNEW, THEY KNEW HOW MUCH IT HURT HER
BUT THEY BETRAYED HER ANYWAYS.
Password let you in the door, I knew you’d come back to me, front porch light cardigan
What you did was just as dark, just as hard
Why wouldn’t it be?
They were the one she had throughout all that turmoil… yet they betrayed her too…
Kingdom come undone – komh, we rule the kingdome inside my room
Beaten my heart – KOMH, dbatc
The feeling of thinking you found the one, the one you’re going to spend the rest of your life with… the one you would throw away all of this for…
Don’t want no other shade of blue but you, no other sadness in the world would do
You don’t want anyone else but them if they were the one you were going to throw it all away for…
You don’t wanna say goodbye…
You just wanna keep feeling the pain, the love, the conflict that you had with them…
You don’t wanna say goodbye

ranboo (again) - dream says he used to visit a while ago and then stopped coming - techno asks "ranboo used to visit?" - ranboo visited "a bit" - probably visited the most - sapnap visited - tommy visited a couple of times - bad visited - and quackity - quackity visited the most, only because hes visited daily
more potatos pog potatos
ranboo (x3) - techno asks how dream knows ranboo - "um... its just a.. long story" - techno replies sarcastically about how they dont have any time to go through it, theyre so busy with the bell - dream "i dont know him very well. he just visited a few times and that was it." - techno just repeats alright, its either bored or thinking - dream "and then i havent seen him since then so thats why i was wondering where hes been, if hes been around" - techno " ah... im not sure. i havent been around fpr like the past couple of months, honestly."
techno went on atraining montage, played golf
dream asks about the plan to get out mining fatigue 3 doesnt mean they cant break blocks, its just approximately 370 times longer breaking obsidian takes a bit over 4 minutes math = obsidian block gone in 25.7 hours. an alarm break in the right spot break block in toilet elder guardian below the cell techno can take him if techno somehow dies dream brings him back could be out in 2 weeks havent been visited for 2 weeks nothing to lose dream has to break obsidian techno wants to end stream techno came up with idea so dream has to do it dream starts bell ringing for cheerng him on techno sounds happy that dream is doing it voices are mentioned - theyre laughing techno has perfect track of time techno is gonna annoy dream the entire time techno is a lookout there are only 4 books we only see the 4th name floof interrupts momentarily tommy killed a cat because dream liked it 300 dogs in the cell joke
channel member bell dream regrets his life again techo's plan? bell was a better investment dream has 10 bells in e chest techno doesnt techno wanted to go for more so techno could ring bell again

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha: Episodes 1 and 2 (Repost)
"Life is not easy for all of us. Some spend their whole lives on unpaved words, while some run at full speed only to reach the edge of a cliff."
What is home? And is home a place or a feeling? These are the questions the premiere episodes of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha pose.
Yoon Hye-jin (Shin Min-a) seems to have it all in Seoul — a nice apartment, a stable job as a dentist, and her online orders. But perhaps the most important thing she owns is her principle. Ambitious as she may be, she isn’t keen on ripping off patients to earn or to pay for her shopping indulgences. Her chief dentist at the clinic, however, thinks otherwise. So despite her materialistic tendencies, Hye-jin stands up to her greedy and disingenuous boss in a spur-of-the-moment defiance, one which predictably has its professional and financial repercussions.
Now jobless and possibly in debt, a childhood memory draws her from the confines of her sleek domicile to the quaint seaside town of Gongjin, not only to seek a reprieve from her city miseries but also to remember.
Gongjin, however, is the home of Hong Du-sik (Kim Seon-ho) — a charismatic jack-of-all-trades who is as ubiquitous as the scent of ocean air in the town. He is everywhere it seems — on the boat, by the sea, at a coffee shop, or the fish market. If Hyejin’s ambitious and near solitary exterior represented the cutthroat urban soul, then Dusik’s endless list of side hustle captures the untiring enterprise needed to survive and sustain a life in the province. It’s a life that demands diligence and street smarts, as well empathy and community. Perfectly helpful to everyone in town, especially to Kim Gam-ri (Kim Young-ok), and capable of almost every form of labor, he is as popular as the dried squid Gongjin is known for.
The two meet on the beach — though not for the first time, we find out later on. It’s the perfect location for the world of opposites to collide: sand and the sea. Hyejin — the fish out of water — symbolically loses a shoe from a much-prized pair. Dusik — amphibious and with the ability to move around in any environment — finds the other heel. He returns it to her partly annoyed.
Though grateful, Hyejin seeks to find the other shoe, attached not only to its value but also because she cannot see herself walking barefoot. Dusik is not impressed. He nonetheless pities the out-of-place Seoulite and throws her his pair of slippers — oversized, overused, possibly acquired for free from one of the seaside restaurants. Walk my paths, Dusik seems to say. They are Hyejin’s welcome gifts to a town she will have to understand because it will become her home. Or will it?
Plucked from the metropolis and driven by both impulse and circumstance, the good dentist will have to figure out not just Dusik’s deal but Gongjin’s townsfolk, too. Left with no choice, she leaves behind the comforts and conveniences of the city. However, the small-town outlook and habits of Gongjin's people are unfamiliar and even repulsive to her. As hopeful as she is for new beginnings, an awkward and very public faux pas means she is also off to a rocky start. This and a series of other missteps finds her alienated from the community. Almost like learning the Cha-Cha-Cha, Hyejin’s footwork is a mess.
Dusik, who witnesses and hears Hyejin’s judgemental tirade, comes to her aid but only subtly and as a gentle nudge. He isn’t pretending to be a savior who could fix the unpleasant cracks between Hyejin and Gongjin’s people. Instead, he reminds her to meet the community halfway. For instance, he doesn’t chastise her for wearing tight-fitting running wear that scandalized the elderly women of the town. He knows its purpose; he even explained it to the elderly women. But Dusik also sheds light on the motivations behind this conservative view of his town’s people.
When Hyejin attempts to win the community’s trust by doling out rice cakes while inviting them to her clinic’s opening, Dusik senses the insincerity. Material gifts are meaningless. As the saying goes, it’s the thought that counts. Remorse has to be personal. She’s the new girl in town, after all. Hyejin cannot expect Gongjin to adjust to her whims. Dusik does what he can — secretly, too. But the city girl will have to take the initiative in building meaningful relations with the town’s people.
In both cases, we get a timely commentary on the need to understand other people. After all, we live in world increasingly adversarial, quick to respond to and mob those we disagree with. We're fast to label those who stand our way as enemies instead as partners for truth-seeking. If Homcha follows its current tracks, I'm curious to see if this wisdom of seeing both sides is further emphasized.
Despite Hyejin’s multiple setbacks, she moves forward. It helps that her inimitable best friend, Pyo Mi-seon (Gong Min-jeung), follow her to town. Mi-seon brings comic relief and relentless energy to our dentist’s new life. So through small and careful steps — and with Dusik just watching over her ever so carefully — she settles in and slowly makes amends with Gongjin’s men and women.
And what a community Gongjin is. Homcha masterfully paints a town brimming with life and populated by every character and role we know and relate to. The seaside commune is scenic and vibrant, almost too idyllic even. Its port is bustling and its homes are welcoming. From the mountains, the horizon glistens with every break of dawn. What we know from Dusik and Hyejin, however, is that the surface isn’t all there is to it.
In a telling short montage at the start of Episode 2, we get a glimpse of the townsfolk's quiet sorrows. Hwa-jung (Lee Bong-ryun), the assertive landlady, is a divorcee still hurting about her marriage’s breakdown. The owner of the town’s cafe and pub, Cheon-jae (Jo Han-chul), is a forgotten singer and one-hit wonder struggling with his confidence and purpose. Nam-sook (Cha Chung-hwa), the quirky and chatty owner of the Chinese restaurant, appears to grieve the loss of a child. Even Dusik — who seems faultless — hides a wound. Behind the closed doors of the homes of Gongjin are unspoken aches and regrets.
Home is where the heart is, they say. But often, home is also where the hurts are.
Life wounds can only be remedied by love. Homcha makes no qualms about it. It’s a love story at its core but one that explores love’s healing effects in a place closest to us, a space that has to be the safest for us. Dusik is clearly smitten by the new resident of Gongjin. He sees her in a different light. It’s easy to tell, however, he has some baggage—a suit to be specific. Hyejin carries with her a spirit of grief as well. What of her mother? What of her childhood? How their respective hurts have shaped them and will continue to define their characters will be an interesting exploration by the series. With the first two episodes out, I’m hopeful we become privy to the furnishings of Dusik’s and Hyejin’s “homes”.
Where the first two episodes succeed is not just in juxtaposing the clashing views of urban and rural. Instead, we see more of what is common between the two. Hyejin’s uncharitable remarks over the narrow-minded views of Gongjin’s people are easy to associate with the condescension typical of city dwellers. But one can say the same with the trio of halmeoni who were so quickly appalled by Hyejin’s workout clothes. Judgments, after all, know no place or time. We think of those in the province as being insular and yet we also meet a chief dentist with a small-town outlook, ready to ruin the reputation of another in a similarly tight-knit dentist’s community.
Perhaps we are more the same than different?
What makes Homcha stand out, however, is that it doesn’t try too hard. The characters — and the actors — are unpretentious. As such, we get a light-hearted and heartwarming journey as our main characters and the Gongjin community settle, work, and live. You feel as if you're part of the community, too.
From its warm colors to its penchant for nostalgic songs, Homcha lives up to its title. It evokes that familiar place we grew up in and stirs memories of the spaces and faces that have shaped our persona. Sometimes we choose to stay there—or find ourselves stuck. Sometimes we outgrow it, too, and we move on to greener pastures. But that part of our lives connected to our youth never really disappears. To survive we need to accept and love the parts of our history we are least proud of, right? Once we do, how ready are we to show them to other eyes, to let them be held by other hands?
Round my hometown Ooh the people I've met Are the wonders of my world
PS
If I had a gripe with the show, it’s the fact that Hyejin apparently has no idea how to use the forgot password feature of websites. That's all.

ZEP PARALLELS: S2 vs S1
POSSIBLE SPOILERS?
WARNING: Super long post.
Parallels & Similarities (and differences) between S1 & S2
Includes episodes 2x01, 2x02, 2x03:
2x01 Zoeys Extraordinary Return
Wake-up songs/Zoey & Mo: Opening the season with Zoey being woken up by Mo singing "in real life" & waking her up. "Rise up" in 2x01 AND "Angel of the Morning/Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" in 1x01. We first see Zoey in her bedroom. And the first two characters we meet are Zoey & Mo.
Zoey + baby: In both premieres Zoey has an encounter with a baby. In 2x01 we see her interact with her brother's son (the new baby, Miles) VS in 1x01 she encounters new mom with a baby on the cable car during the first ever big musical number she experiences (Help!) #whenwillshestarttohearthebabysheartsongs
Clarkeman & Coffee: The first Zoey/Max scene/interactions happens over "coffee break before work". In 2x01 we see them meting up for a coffee on a park bench before she heads over to work VS in 1x01 we see them getting coffee at the cofee bar on their way to work. In both scenes Max, her best friend, encourages/supports her (you will get the promotion VS it's a shield...to shield you from the world when you need it").
Jumping to conclusions: In 2x01 Zoey assumes that Max giving her the small jewelry box means he's proposing ("Relax, I'm not proposing") VS In 1x02 Zoey assumes that Max is asking her on a romantic dinner date, when he tells her he won the lottery to the restaurant they both love. ("Thursday night. Is it a date?" / "Is it a date?" "No! I just mean like can you go?")
Legs up!: Peoples legs getting close to Zoey's face during big musicals numbers: Leif's & Simon's during "Hello Dolly" in 2x01 at the 4th floor bullpen VS Joan's during "Satisfaction" in the elevator in 1x03.
Promotion: In 1x01 Zoey wants the promotion & has an "interview" with Joan to get it VS in 2x01 she does not want the new job (added responsibility, when she jsut wants to "lay low") but Joan just asks her to take it. And by the end of the episode she gets the promotion/accepts the promotion, and we see her "first day at work on the new job". And in both episodes she has a competitor - Leif, who is also interested in a promotion.
Interesting: In 2x01 Mo tells Zoey "So the powers are back - you're interesting again!" VS 1x01 when she tells him about her new superpower Mo tells Zoey: "This is the 1st thing I find remotely interesting about you".
Mo is the honest friend: In 2x01 Mo speaks the honest truth... which is what Zoey actually needs to hear JUST LIKE he has been doing throughout S1. He might not always say the nicest things, but he's alwyas honest. And its what Zoey's character needs. (eg. Mo knows that she just lost her dad & it's a hard time for her, but her problems are still not bigger than everyone elses. Or like he calls her out on her chase/hesitation over the two teams in S1)
Tech-savvy Zoey to the rescue: In 2x01 Zoey uses her tech skills to "hack into Mitch's e-mail account" when her mom can't find the password & access it for info she needs (that dad left them) VS in1x03 Zoey comes up with a way to communicate with Mitch... (after David comes up with the Yes/No buzzer) & creates a computer program which allows him to type his answers using a mouse.
Etsy: In 2x01 Joan tells Zoey "I like your sweater, its cute that you shop at Etsy" VS in 1x01 Tobin tells Zoey: "I thought you would be doing each others nails & buying matching tote-bags off Etsy in there."
Blessing or curse? In 1x12 Zoey told her dad that she has chosen to look at her musical power more like a "gift/blessing" (it allowed her to communicate with dad, helped her form bonds with others, help people...) and she said she's not minding the big musical numbers the way she used to. She even considers they're helpin g her instead. VS in 2x01 she tells Mo that she hopes the power won't return & when it does, she finds it "overwhelming" & cannot deal with any of it.
Bottling it up: In 2x01 George sings "Don't cry out loud. Just keep it inside. And learn how to hide your feelings." That song is as much about George's feelings about being the new guy, as it is another reference to Zoey's state of mind VS in 1x01 we learn that both Zoey & Simon keep their grief emotions bottled up (and they should not). As the dilogue from the Pilot already told us: Zoey: "Are you talking to anyone about this?" Simon: "Other than you? No. I've become a real expert of bottling my shame & pain, and hiding it from the world." Zoey: "I'm not an expert on this or anything, but you cant just keep it in."
Family & Grief: The Clarke family all singing "Carry on" & sitting down the table to eat dinner together at the end of 2x01... with a happy note about the future in their minds VS The Clarke family all singing "American Pie" on the funeral day at the end of 1x12, and all sitting at the living room (on the coach, chairs)...with a sad note about the present in their minds.
The premiere episodes end with a "surprise" Max (and Zoey) "twist": ep 1x01 ends with a surprise heart song from Max which makes Zoey & the viewers aware of his feelings for her VS 2x01 ends with a surprise decision from Zoey where she "chooses Max". Also parallels to 1x12: in both 2x01 & 1x12 Zoey comes onto/kisses Max as he's telling her about his new outlook on life & business ideas. In both cases she's (partly) trying to forget grieving her dad, and needs him for the distraction. Both endings were "sudden" & "unexpected"
Family picture wall: In 2x01 Maggie is holding baby Miles (her grandson) & "showing him" the family photos on the wall VS in 1x01 Zoey sees her & dad's reflection on the picture on the wall...as Mitch first communictes with her... by singing his first heart song to her.
Move forward: Zoey's words to Max about the business plans & their relationship actually apply as much to herself and her grief as they do for this situation: "You should absolutely move forward with it" & "You always have to move forward"
2x02 Zoeys Extraordinary Distraction [+ (base)balls]
Hooking up: In 2x02 Zoey says to Max "we have been hooking up for the last 5 minutes" VS in 1x12 she tells her dad "I just hooked up with my best friend". In both cases Zoey makes the first move & kisses Max. In both hooking up scenes the popcorn is forgotten...
She/They both want to believe she's feeling the moment & is ready, but it is mostly just one coping mechanism... her way of distracting herself from the grief. Cause in no way has she shown signs of actually choosing him. [what dawned on the characters only 2 weeks later was obvious to viewers before they "got together" aka the moment she "chose him"]
We saw her pick a team, but there have been no actual reasons or feelings expressed by her why she chose him (the reasons she gave in "act five" were about her needing him at the moment, not about why or how she really feels about him). The writing has still not included her POV & her sharing her feelings (cause she’s not ready for that...yet) They gave small glimpses during few scenes, but no real look into it.
Get out!: Tobin being kicked out of the meeting by DMD/Zoey - "Get out, Tobin"/"Would you like to get out, Tobin?" AND Zoey getting kicked out from the makeover night by Mo - "Get out!" / "Girl, I don't care that you look like Rafiki. Get out!"
That came out wrong: Zoey told Simon in 2x02 about making his job not so easy "I am gonna ride you so...hard... Nope, that came out wrong"...She adds the last part as she hears herself say the words. VS Tobin was talking about being commited to work in 1x08 by saying "Hardworking, committed, serious. Watch how fast I nail this. Speaking of nailing... Nope, not gonna make the joke.." He adds the last part as he hears himself say the words
Food stealer: Zoey "I steal food from my best friends plate/bowl" Clarke. She ate from his plate during their dinner date at her place. And then she ate from his cereal bowl during the Clarke family breakfast "the morning after".
Older siblings: Jenna's is the less successful older sibling/sister (2x02) just like Leif is the less successful older sibling/brother (1x05). They both feel like "not enough" compared to their younger sibling(s), who they feel are more "perfect".
Cardigan buddies: Leif & Zoey: cardigan buddies! Interestingly these two are the two 4th Floor Team members, who are most similar: both have a bike/like cycling (Leif often hs his bicyle helmet on his desk, so he rides a bike to work & Zoey has a bike in her apartment). Both love to wear cardigans, and the wardrobe department often has them in matching outfits/colours...Same this week. Both were/are the team members, who are in many ways "biggest messes" (most awkward), but both had/have the most ambition...they wanted and got the promotions. Both struggled in their new manager position..at first (and got help and good advice from their boss).
Team Leaders: Leif doing all the work alone (and exhausting himself...because he wants to be liked & hasn't yet settled into his new role as team leader... He has to learn to be their boss, ot just their buddy...to get the team listen & for there to be teamwork) VS Zoey doing all the work alone (pre-S1 when she wanted the promotion +) during S1 when she had just become the boss: sending everyone home, cause they "didn't try hard enough", and fixing all the issues alone... VS Mo wanting to do it all alone in his early 20s (when he took over the project he had been working on with his best friend, cause "he's too good at goobyes") Both struggled with the new job, both got help/advice from their boss (Zoey from Joan & Leif from Zoey)
Sleeping at work: Lief being woken up by Zoey in 2x03 after he falls asleep when pulling an all-night at work (working all night) VS Simon waking up Zoey in 1x02 after she falls asleep at work (behind her desk) after pulling an all-nighter alone.
Leif's pants: In 2x02 Zoey tells Leif "Dust off your slim-fitting chinos" VS in S1 Joan makes a comment on Leif's pants. [I cannot remember the ep number right now]
Go big or go home!: We found out Mitch's/Zoey’s dads motto in S1. It's "bigger moments, bigger memories" AND In 2x02 Zoey goes for the "bigger moment" - she tailors their first time together to suit Max's wishes (it should be special: the swan & rose petals are more for him than her) VS In 1x07 Max organizes a flash mob to confess his love for Zoey (something she as her dad's daughter secretly appreciates). She calls it unexpected & amazing & while she runs, its not cause she does not appreciate the "big gesture". The only reason she is overwhelmed & runs is because she is doing everything in her power to bottle up her feelings towards Max (1x06 ending proved she has feelings for him) & she did not want to deal with them at the moment. (the flashmob is more his style, but she is not opposed to it)
Come here: Max saying "Come here" to Zoey in the 2x02 dinner date scene at her place & during act five bedroom scene AND Max saying the same line "Come here" to Zoey in 1x12 during the "All of me/Pitbull" scene.
Mix of songs: In 2x02 during the Z/M bedroom scene the scene switched between different songs & tones (romantic/ballad vs comic/neutral baseball song VS romantic mutual duet) VS in 1x12 during the Z/M movie night turned more scene the scene switched between different songs & tones (romantic/ballad vs comic/fast song)
Dueting: In 2x02 Zoey joins Max for "A Moment Like This" during Act 5. She chooses to duet with him, becuase she feels the same way as he does. VS in 1x08 Max joins Zoey for "Pressure" at the CHIRP meeting... salvaging the presentation, when she involuntarely sings the songs (cause of the "glitch").
Opera songs + Sex: In 2x02 Zoey & Max are distracted by Mo singing opera & it's ruining the specialness of them trying to "do the nasty" VS in 1x04 Max sings opera the morning after he & Autumn "make their first love"
It’s a very not next-level move: In 2x02 during the morning after Max & Zoey are "caught" by her mom/family, and though it is awkward for a moment (because they seem to be surprised by the sudden change), meeting the family/parents does not seem such a next-level move, because Max has been kind-of part of the family for a while already. VS 1x05 where Max tells Zoey that meeting Autum's parents (he was dating her at the time) seems like such a next-level move, and she was not ready for any of it. VS all the times we saw Max interact with Zoeys family... in 1x02 with Mitch, in 1x06 helping the family with Mitch, in 1x12 with Maggie...
2x03 Zoeys Extraordinary Dreams [+ eggs]
NASA/Space theme: Zoey's NASA/space themed PJs and Tees + all the space references in both her childhood bedroom and her current apartment (telescope, posters, etc)
Musical nightmares/Dreams: In 2x03 Zoey is having a recurring nightmare where in the end she faces herself while the song "Nowhere to Run" plays #allbymyself VS in 1x02 Zoey was having a much happier weird dream...with a twist ending while the song "I've Got the Music in Me" plays
A sad Emma Stone Halloween costume: Black PJs Zoey wears in the nightmare in 2x03 are the same ones she wears in 2x01 on the last day of her time off. The look Mo calls "a sad Emma Stone Halloween costume" (as he suggests she put on some colours instead)
Coach & Photo on the wall: Basically the only items in the empty Clarke house during Zoeys nightmare are the coach (where Mitch used to sit all the time & where Zoey/the family sat in S1 finale...the day the music died) & the picture on the wall (where she saw Mitch reflection the first time he sang to her/communicated with her). Her nightmare/dance are directed at those objects.
Breaking glass: In 2x03 George breaks the glass wall/window of Zoey's/The bosses office when the team plays baseball at the office VS in 1x02 Zoey breaks the glass award/throphy in Simons office when she throws the american football ball. George & Zoey aka "I'm terrible around glass" people
On repeat: Zoey being hunted by the same nightmare/dream throughout the episode in 2x03... until she stopped trying to avoid them and talked about them/did something about it VS Zoey being haunted by the same song "(I Can't get no) Satisfaction" thoughtout episode 1x03... until she stopped avoiding it and helped Joan.
I can't get no sleep: Zoey not sleeping because of the nigtmares she's having VS David/Emily not getting any sleep because of the baby (most new parents are sleep-deprived, because babies don't always have the same sleep-schedule as adults do)
Mitch's/Zoey's spot on the coach: Zoey sitting on the coach with a blank look on her face at the end of "Nowhere to Run" nightmare VS Zoey sitting on the coach with a sad look on her face at the end of "American Pie" in 1x12 [in the nightmare shes sitting at MItch's spot, in s1 finale she's looking at the empty spot next to her]
Red dress: The red dress the OTHER Zoey is wearing in her nightmare as she opens her door VS The (same) red dress Zoey is wearing as she & her dad dance as instrumental version of "True Colours" is playing in 1x12 (as he's dying). Same dress.
Too much on her plate: Zoey taking on too many responsibilities and not being able to handle it. In S2 she is living the post-loss stage of grief + she's taken the new promotion and added jobs and responsibilities + she is avoiding dealing with her issues + she has started a new relationship (she is not ready for, actually) + she keeps hearing heart songs which kinda help her with knowing what others feel, but it's also distracting and overwhelming to her "reducing stress is a little tricky since I've taken over the 4th floor & have 10-times the respnsibility now"] VS in S1 she is dealing with losing her father soon + she's taken the new promotion and added job responsibilities + she is avoiding dealing with her own issues ("face her father") + she is helping people whose heart songs she hears. In S2 it kinda culminates in ep 3, in S1 it kinda culminated in ep 8. when she says "How do I do that? Because helping myself would mean taking a vacation from Sprk Point, or curing my father's disease."
Manager advice: In 2x03 Zoey asks Simon advice about how to manage all the extra work & he tells her about delegating work (sharing responsibiities) VS in 1x02 Zoey asks/gets help from Simon on how to manage the team (and still get to go home on time/get all the work done on time)
Not the right person to help: In 2x03 Zoey wants to hep her mom, but she feels like she's not the right person to do that, because she has no insight into the topic (does not know anything about landscaping & art) + she would probbly not have the time or energy right now, cause she has so much other things going on... VS in 1x11 she wants to help her mom, but feels since she has no personal experience (has not lost a husband of 4-years), she is not the right person to help her. Both times a heart-song heps her find the right person (in her opinion) for the job. In 2x03 it's Jenna, in 1x11 it was Deb.
No communication: In S2 & 2x03 Zoey is not really opening up to Max, but she is communicating her feelings to him...somewhat. Telling him about her nightmares/dreams, and that they're affecting her. Though not really going too much into the experience (because she hopes they will magically disappear if she wishes they will...) VS In S1 Zoey avoided opening up to Max & sharing her feelings with him more. Though she still uses the same tactics - trying to keep it all inside, and avoid dealing with her feelings and grief and everything related to it (hoping that if she avoids it then it doesn't exist...even if she probably knows that this is not how any of it works). She's trying to share a bit more with him, her best friend, but at the same time she is still bottling it all up inside...
My heart song does not mean what you think it means: In 2x03 Max says to Zoey after she hears a heart song from him (which he assumes might be that he is "jealous" that she talks to Simon, her grief-buddy at work about her personal life & nightmares) that "People can have a lot of thoughts in their heads without meaning them. / You can't read into it." VS Zoey's quote: "I don't know what that song is saying exactly what we think its saying" & "You can't be mad at me for singing a song I didn't mean to sing" in 1x08.
Dinner Date gone wrong: In 2x03 Max tries to cook a home-made dinner for Zoey (at her mom's place), but when she hears him singing a heart song it leads to an "argument" between the two and he leaves VS in 1x10 Simon tries to cook a home-made dinner for Zoey (at his new place), but when she hears him singing a heart song it leads to an "argument" and her leaving.
PS. Based on Zoey's reaction the song is either "Say Something" (because a person sings theei song until Zoey responds/helps..and she only did at the end of the episode) OR it's a reprise of a certain song fro S1 (but if I'm right not a song you'd expect) OR ... it's a completely different song... that we would not expect. And based on Zoeys reaction & the shows choice not to show/tell us the song... it has to be a "surprise", and if it would be simply "he's feeling jealous over Z/S grief connection" or if it was "Say Something"...that would not be a twist, but since I expect this to be setting up a future story, it'd be not very creative writing if it was one of these options. Which is why I have a theory... (I'm not sure about the song... I'm not even sure the showrunner/writer has decided yet... but I have a guess on the "theme/feelings")
Timing is off: In 2x03 Zoey & Max decide to put their new relationship on hold until she is ready...to give her time to grieve and work through the emotions VS in 1x10 Zoey & Simon decide to put breaks on their relationshop-to-be until he is ready... to give him time to work through his emotions.
Say Something/Happier: In S2/2x03 Zoey & Max are in a relationhip, but they do not communicate well. Because she does not open up to him about her grief & "he does not know how to help cause he has not had the same experience" VS in S1/1x05-1x09 Simon & Jessica are in a relationship, but they do not communicate well. Because he does not open up to her about his grief & she does not know how to help cause she has not had the same experience.
While there are similarieties in the storylines, there are also differences. S/J let the third party in the relationship, grief, get between them and it drove them apart, cause they stayed together until it broke them apart. Z/M came to a mature decision to not let the third party in the relationship defy them, they took a break so the grief would not end up breaking them apart.
PS. While we've ony seen the start of this storyline, I do believe that this is where it's going. They're not gonna repeat S/Js mistake, but instead they will "learn from it", and by deciding to take some time now they will be ready to continue where they left off once she's ready. Cause they both made the false assumption in 2x01 that she was ready. They were heading toward S/J, but theyre kinda trying to avoid that by the decisoon in 2x03.
Grief therapist: In S2 Simon is Zoey's grief councelor/therapist... he gives solid advice to her about her grief and how to deal with her feelings/emotions VS In S1 Zoey was Simon's grief councelor/therapist...she gave him often pretty solid advice about grief and how to deal with the situations. The roles have reversed.
Mind-reader: In 2x03 Max brings up the topic that he is unconfortable how Zoey can just "read his mind" and know everything he thinks & feels (have insight into how he feels...also about her), while he has no idea what she thinks/how she feels...because she won't really share. VS 2x02 When in Act 5 he says he'd like to know what she's thinking/feeling & she tells him what she's feeling VS 1x07 when Max bring up the fact that he is uncomfortable with her knowing how he thinks while he has no insight into her mind (after which she promises 100% honesty to him.... that she'll be open with him... which to this day she has not been able to really do) VS 1x04 when Mo expresses concern that she can read other people thoughts & he's not okay with her having insight into his private thoughts & feelings.
Time apart: In 2x03 Zoey puts some space between herself & Max, when they agree to take a break, cause she's not done grieving/not ready for a relationship VS In 1x02 Zoey puts space between her & Max when she sets him up with their barista in the previous episode (because she is not ready to let herself even consider romantic path between them, so she "fixes it")
THE END...for now
