So funny to me that Hiccup basically pressured Viggo and Ryker into making the Shellfire dragonproof (I know there was more to it but still)

Like they kept blasting the chains, so they made dragon proof chains. And then they started blasting the winches so they made those dragon proof too. And then they blasted the deck of the boat and Viggo and Ryker were like fuck it let’s just make the whole thing dragon proof

10/10 he deserved more than he got

 I found it quite refreshing that he was one of the few characters in the franchise who didn't feel the need to be melodramatic, he was quiet and efficient which imo is scarier. I wish he'd been given more character development or even just scenes of him doing his thing without the more 'visible' characters around (Viggo, Dagur, Hiccup, Heather etc) and it’s kinda sad that his own intelligence was was overshadowed by 'smart guy’ being Viggos entire schtick

Also Ryker is such a victim of narrative framing honestly. Like, the story from his perspective is:

works an exhausting/dangerous job and does it well (Knew a lot about the dragons he hunted ex: capturing stormfly & the snow wraiths)

ends up working with some nutcase and his sister who is clearly passing sensitive info to capable enemies

He wouldn't even be dealing with these enemies if it weren't for said nutcase bringing them to him

despite being one of two characters willing to do whats in the best interests of the tribe, and always following orders, he constantly gets belittled and called stupid by his brother (and gets no credit for his great ideas ex: sea shocker powerboat)

deals with this mistreatment for MONTHS while brother spends every waking moment obsessing over these enemies

finally gets sick of mistreatment (can't really blame him for instigating a coup at that point)

throws his brother in a hole

and then dies

From his perspective, Ryker did everything right and died for it because he didn't have plot armour

They did my mans so dirty lmao If the narrative frame wasn't centered on Hiccup and Viggo I think a lot more people would be rooting for Ryker

So I decided to rewatch RTTE because I felt like indulging in some childhood nostalgia. A few things to note:

- Snotlout and Fishlegs are dating. Good for them.

- The twins are the best characters. Still don't know wtf a boar pit is.

- I know those are supposed to be dragon scales on Ryker's shoulder and arm pads but they look like turtle shells I'm sorry--

- Actually good disability rep?? Hello??

- Hiccup how tf are you still alive?

- "Toothle plama bla" is perhaps the funniest thing in any piece of media ever.

- On the subject of Gruffnut: There's another one???

- How does Tuffnut know so many languages? Did these languages exist in this time period? If so who taught him? Is Tuffnut Odin in disguise? Would that make Ruffnut Loki?

- Hiccup is AuDHD. No I will not be taking comments at this time.

- Where tf did Hiccup get his dragon blade in midnight scrum? Why did he not use it to free himself or fend off his attackers? Also, on the subject of midnight scrum, how is this boy's neck not broken??

- I stan one (1) Heather the Unhinged. Go off queen. Feral bastard child.

- Ruffnut is actually super smart?? And cool?? What??

- I did not watch the series before this one so Dagur's entrance confused me so much at first. Who is this man and why does his beard look like that?? Please shave.

- Gonna punch Snotlout's dad. Gonna kick his fucking ass.

- Why is Viggo so aggressively British? And why is his brother Scottish? Come to think of it, there is no consistency in any of the accents.

- Sir, that is not a dragon, that is a Pokémon (you know exactly which dragon I'm talking about don't pretend you don't know)

Viggo and Ryker being one of the very few accurate depictions of siblings I’ve ever seen.

Also your going to look at this and tell me there wasn’t something else going on between these two

Like. Words can not even properly articulate the dilemma I am in regarding my story and the relationships within it.

Vigcup and dagcup are so cute. They're both literally enemies to friends to lovers and they hold so much fuel for angst and hurt/comfort and fluffy cuddles by a fireplace and the trust that is built up and I-

I just-

And Viggo and Dagur fighting to win Hiccups affection is such a top tier idea and I'm surprised nobody has written about it before. Viggo giving Hiccup flowers, handmade gifts, poetry he's written for him. Dagur trying to combat all that and not really knowing how. Angst and self doubt and comfort and whatnot follows.

Then again hicstrid is amazing. They're so wholesome and, yeah, it's kinda basic, but it's still so cute. They care for each other so much and it's adorable. And their dragons are best friends which makes it even cuter.

But Heather is also so freaking gay for Astrid that it's not even funny and they would be so cute together. Friends to lovers. Warrior women who would kill and die for each other. They're such an amazing team in the show and I just.

I think about all this and think I have it figured out and then my brain just. It's just like "hey, what about Dagur being a disaster bi for both Viggo and Hiccup?" and I'm suddenly sent reeling again. Especially with with found family aspect that literally has Viggo helping Dagur raise his adopted son and being deemed the kids 'second dad'.

This has already been decided BTW. Its set in stone. Dagur and Viggo are raising a child together in my story and Ryker helps out and is that kinda aloof uncle figure.

They take turns keeping an eye on this bundle of chaos and unfathomable energy. Have to sleep in small cuddle piles because this child refuses to sleep at all if he can't use at least one of his dads as a pillow. Viggo and Dagur get to see softer sides of each other that completely contradict their usual reputations.

Then Krogan comes along and becomes another father/the mother figure of this family and my brain just.

Implodes.

Kroggo. Angst. Hurt/comfort. Fluff. Trauma buddies.

And it's all just a love pentagram at this point and I haven't even thought about the other riders or any other relationships because my brain just. Latches. Locks its jaws on a collection of ideas and shakes it all around like a rabid animal.

Please help I need outside opinions on all of this

Random Thoughts on HTTYD RttE S2(Ep8-13)

Ep8&9 - Astrid is being a little meany to the twins, but i get why

Barf&Belch throwing that last tree trunk and then butting heads, looking super proud of themselves was funny

Daamn, Ruffnut! It seems she's been holding that in for a long time now

Okay, like, i can see where Ruffnut is coming from; there have been moments where Astrid mocks or scolds elements of her team (mostly either the twins or Snotlout) for really small things, but since it's always played for laughs, we as a viewer have never taken it into consideration until now, when Ruff throws it at Astrid's face.

But you can't completely blame her! Sometimes, the twins really do stupid stuff and put the team in danger, and Astrid won't forget that, as she shouldn't.

But then, she's also too inflexible and that's where Hiccup's better. He's able to reach a compromise with the twins and make them follow and help the team in their own way. Astrid - it's not even that she can't do that - it's that she won't. And the twins aren't dumb, they understand that.

Fluffnut and Stuffnut are genius names and i shall not take any criticism

Yeahhh capturing one of the twins might not have been your best move here

Im really curious to see what Tuff's plan is

Ep10 - Fishlegs is so freaking sweet - he's like a giant gentleman, super intelligent brave and kind, and i love whenever he's on screen doing stuff

Ep11 - I've never seen him before, but the Skrill looks so damn cool! Just from his name, my guess on his design was a silver, slick-looking dragon with a big mouth, and i couldn't have been more wrong - it was a surprise to see him as black and purple, he's so pretty!

"Isn't Snotlout's dad acting more violent and deranged than usual?" That you would already characterize him as both does not bode well with me

I really wanted Hookfang to throw Spitelout off of him ngl, that was a rude push

Why did Spitelout come along?!

Also, Astrid being done with Snotlout, part34 (someone should make a comp of that, it'd be so long)

I write this up here, and the guy immediately has himself standing in front of a freaking arrow shot - of course Toothless is protective, his rider is always getting himself in dangerous situations!

Ep12&13 - Don't think I've mentioned it until now, but I really enjoy Dagur's voice, it doesn't fit with what I inicially expected of him because of his looks - i expected a much rougher, raspy voice - but the animators and his VA still make it work so well

Toothless silently judging Tuff and Snotlout in the background while Astrid and Hiccup talk was a really funny detail

Sooo I'm guessing this is the Tufflout bromance episode I've heard about

Hm, first impressions of Viggo: he looks a bit common, not a lot of distinguishable features to him, and the way he grabbed Ryker's chin felt so creepy to me - he's already an unsettling guy that's for sure

His voice is super smooth, it is unsettling

The gang’s names are under-appreciated, not just because they are amazing, but for the comedy potential.

They’re out here being named, Snotlout? Fishlegs? Ruffnut? Tuffnut? Hiccup?

While everyone else has normal names like Viggo, Ryker, Dagur, Heather, Johann, Drago, Mala and so on!

Can. You. Imagine. Being a villain, fighting these teenagers, being defeated, and utterly impressed, and then you ask for their names, thinking it’ll be something amazing like TORMOD THE GREAT, and then it’s… Fishlegs????? Fishlegs Justin Ingerman??

And the leader is HICCup? UHH???!! And his deadly beast is Toothless? Like, “NO??? No no no, I see teeth”
