Home Sweet Home Alone (2021, Dan Mazer)
17/12/2021
Home Sweet Home Alone is a 2021 film directed by Dan Mazer, sixth chapter of the Home Alone saga that began with Home Alone.
Agent Buzz McCallister (brother of Kevin McCallister, the protagonist of the original film), arrives, but Pam manages to distract him.
On August 6, 2019, Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger announced that a new film in the Home Alone series, titled Home Alone, was in development. In October, Dan Mazer entered negotiations to direct the film, with a screenplay co-written by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson served as producers.
In April 2020, it was announced that Macaulay Culkin, who played Kevin McCallister in the first two films, would reprise his role in a cameo appearance; in October 2021, Culkin denied his involvement in the film. In August 2021, it was announced that Devin Ratray, who played Buzz McCallister in the first two films, would appear.
The film was released on Disney+ on November 12, 2021.
On Rotten Tomatoes the film has an approval rating of 15% based on 71 reviews, while on IMDB the film has a rating of 3.6/10 out of 15,649 reviews.

Books of 2024: THE DEATH I GAVE HIM by Em X. Liu.
Up next! Hamlet retelling but make it science + a locked-lab mystery (which is, of course, directly up my alley!). Horatio is the lab's resident AI, and I'm so excited to see how this goes.

Amaro Freitas — Y’Y (Psychic Hotline)
Tumblr media
Jazz pianist Amaro Freitas laces his fusion-y jazz with sounds of the rain forest in this expansive outing, infusing fluid reveries of keyboard with tropical rhythm and heat and intimating the sounds of water, birds and insect life. A native of Brazil’s northeastern Pernambuco state, he is as steeped in the music of rain forest peoples like the Sateré Mawé indigenous community as in the jazz canon, and he has strong connections to a global jazz scene, as demonstrated by cameos from Brandee Younger, Jeff Parker and Shabaka Hutchins.  The music slips, sometimes, into soft-focus, new age-y mysticism, but at its best conveys clear-eyed wonder at the heritage human beings are in the process of destroying.
Y’Y proceeds smoothly from one cut to another, so that you are not always sure without looking about exactly where you are in its sequence. Indeed, you could think of it as one long track, flowing majestically downstream like the river that inspired it. Nonetheless, there are scenes with in it, the trebly, altered piano notes that weave through knocks and booms and twitterings in the opening “Mainguari (Encantado da Mata”) one of two cuts dedicated to Amazonian spirits. “Uiara,” the second, sets brief agitated flights of piano against the sound of wood groaning; it sounds like bird song in the midst of rain. The piano becomes more insistent as the cut goes on, hammering and pounding and making staccato chords. It pulses with life, evolving, intertwining, competing life, as abundant as the life in the jungle.
The title track is particularly good at balancing traditional, tribal sounds with the fluencies of jazz. It starts in a stretched out chant, the thump of hand-drums, a metallic clash of tonal percussion. The reedist Shabaka Hutchings plays an airy flute over this, a hoarse whisper of melody over spare percussion. The piano enters, first as a single note played again and again, and then more lavishly, with chords. The piece has an open-ended inquiry to it as the musicians explore connections between jazz and ritual music.
Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker guests on “Mar de Cirandeiras,” dropping smooth elegiac runs into a groove set by Freitas’ playing. It’s maybe the track that sounds the closest to American jazz, but even here, a tropical heat envelops the sound. And finally, the Chicago harpist Brandee Younger takes a hand in “Glorioso,” in graceful runs and flourishes. You could hardly imagine two instruments less suited to the Amazon than piano and harp, but they flourish here, unencumbered by humidity.
Y’Y has its lovely moments, but it wallows sometimes in woo-woo-y mysticism. It’s a bit soft and cushiony, hard edges sanded down to harmless auras. That’s why “Encantados,” late in the album, is such a kick, rushing ahead on running bass and drums, piano and flute bits flying off as it takes the corners on two wheels.  The Amazon may be full of gorgeous tranquility, but how nice, just this once, to hear it lift up its head and roar.

'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile' - Fun for the Kids. Adults? Not so Much
‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ – Fun for the Kids. Adults? Not so Much
For some reason, I have found myself thinking about “The Muppets Take Manhattan” over the past few days. I’m not sure why as, while it is very good, it does not rank as highly for me as “The Muppet Movie” or “The Great Muppet Caper” do. Perhaps it came to mind because it was one of the last Muppet movies to appeal to both kids and adults at the same time. The equivalent to that these days are…

The third installment of the “Venom” franchise finally has a title, “Venom: The Last Dance.” Sony has also moved up the film’s release date to Oct. 25, 2024, from the previously-announced Nov. 8 date.
Plot details are still under wraps, but Tom Hardy will return as the lethal protector Eddie Brock/Venom in the film, also starring Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Clark Backo.
Kelly Marcel will make her feature directorial debut with the project. She also wrote the screenplay from a story she developed with Hardy. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Hutch Parker, Marcel and Hardy are producing.
The first two “Venom” films (2018’s “Venom,” helmed by Ruben Fleischer and the 2021 sequel “Let There Be Carnage,” directed by Andy Serkis) earned a combined $1.3 billion at the box office.
Sony first announced the third film was in the works during its CinemaCon presentation in April 2022. The project will be the first appearance of Venom since a credits sequence cameo in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
In February, Temple opened up about the project to Variety, teasing that filming was almost complete. “We’re coming close to an end at the moment,” she said. “It’s been a wild, wonderful ride. It’s so new to me. It’s a big set! This is crazy. It’s been so much fun and I got to work with such cool people. I’ve been so lucky in my career to just have the most incredible casts. I can’t wait for it to get out into the world. I think it’s going to be a good one.”
Production on “Venom 3” was halted by the SAG-AFTRA strike last year, but cameras started rolling again at the end of November.
The Columbia Pictures film will screen in premium large formats and IMAX.

re: 2023 new releases. hope you're ready for a long message because there were a lot.
hot new releases/things that were relatively popular
He Who Drowned The World, Shelley Parker Chan (Chinese mythological historical, very gay, very stabby a la Baru Cormorant. Book 2 of 2. A particular favorite of mine from this year)
Witch King, Martha Wells (New fantasy book by author of murderbot fame. I didn't actually click with this one but I'd be remiss to leave it off)
House With Good Bones, T Kingfisher (Southern gothic rose horror by the very talented Ursula Vernon)
Translation State, Ann Leckie (high sf alien horror regency romance. Wheeeeee. I had a lot of fun reading this. You can read it as a standalone, but you get deeper context if you've read the ancillary justice series, also highly recommended)
Will of the Many, James Islington (futuristic roman empire aesthetic rigged murder school. Not precisely good but appallingly catchy, I read all six hundred pages in pretty much one sitting. If you liked red rising you'll like this, if you hated red rising you will Not)
OH YEAH THE ACTUAL NEW MURDEBOT NOVEL (System Collapse)
A Power Unbound, Freya Marske (book 3 of 3, magic alt edwardian romances with murder. This is more romance proper but it's about equal with the action plot and Marske is very good. I don't think you've read these so you'd have to start at book 1)
Some Desperate Glory, Emily Tesh (The book that absolutely knocked my socks off, my pick for the best sff release of the year. I forget if I've already told you about this one)
Starling House, Alix Harrow (Southern gothic house drama. Similar feel to Ninth House or The Book of Night)
The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, Shannon Chakraborty (Divorced lady pirate adventure-drama a la Arabian Nights.)
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, Heather Fawcett (Charming, heavily fairy tale trope themed, vaguely reminiscent of the Lady Trent books)
more obscure new releases from this year that I thought were cool, but not in the Hot New Reads You Can't Miss Because Everyone's Read Them category
Under Fortunate Stars, Ren Hutchings (sf timey wimey space shenanigans with aliens. Immensely cool premise.)
Small Miracles, Olivia Atwater (fallen angel sent to tempt a too good mortal. Extremely charming)
The King Is Dead, Naomi Libicki (vaguely persian flavored fealty romance, very heavy to the fealty. Original, thorny, and intriguing)
The Deep Sky, Yume Kitasei (What if we terribly traumatized everyone going on a generation ship by making them go to viciously competitive boarding school together and then act surprised when a murder mystery occurs. Heads up that it's more interested in the human drama than the SF worldbuilding)
The Saint of Bright Doors, Vajra Chandrasekera (early modern fantasy world anti-imperialism fever dream narrated by a cult survivor. Brilliantly written, spectacularly original, one of the best books I read this year)
Things for 2024, content warning for being (obviously) things I haven't read and thus without quality control
The Warm Hands of Ghosts, Katherine Arden
The Familiar, Leigh Bardugo
The Dead Cat Tail Assassins, P Djeli Clark
Long Live Evil, Sarah Rees Brennan
Goddess of the River, Vaishnavi Patel
The Woods All Black, Lee Mandelo
Exordia, Seth Dickinson
A Sorceress Comes To Call, T Kingfisher
Running Close To The Wind, Alexandra Rowland
Wow tumblr just lets me keep writing words. I didn't think they let me have this many in asks. Oh, and pro tip-- keep an eye out for tordotcom's most anticipated upcoming books for the first six months of 2024. They should be publishing it within the next week or so and I always add masses of books to my tbr from there.
oh holy crap, thanks!! I'll have to check these out!
thoughts on a few of em:
He Who Drowned The World - still have to read She Who Became the Sun lol but hopefully I'll get to em next year!
Witch King - Martha Wells has been recced by like All my sci-fi mutuals now lmao I REALLY gotta get into her!
House With Good Bones - THIS ONE IS ACTUALLY ON MY SHELF!! I just didn't fucking read it this year whoops. Very excited for new Kingfisher
Starling House - I was on the fence about this one since I really didn't like Once and Future Witches, but those comparisons give me hope! I'll add it to the library list!
Some Desperate Glory and Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries are 2/3 of the books published in 2023 that I actually managed to read (the 3rd is The Woman in Me lmao), I can't remember if you recc'd Some Desperate Glory, but it was SOOOOOOOO GOOD OMFG
Small Miracles - my aunt has been trying to convince me to read Atwater for quite a while, I'll have to give this one a try!
The Saint of Bright Doors - I have this one on hold!! Saw a post for it a week or so ago and it sounds absolutely delightful!
The Familiar - SO SO EXCITED for this one! I hope Bardugo is maybe...slowly....extricating herself from the Grishaverse and going to write more books not related to it... (not that they're all bad, I loved the Six of Crows duology, I'm just not into it anymore and I reeeealllly like her adult books lol)
Running Close To The Wind - oh yay new Rowland! I still haven't read her last book (the one with the guy on the cover who looked EXACTLY like my boss to the point where it became an Office Meme that [Boss] Is A Gay Romance Cover Model, still meaning to get a UK version of it but haven't yet) but I'll have to look this one up!

THANK YOU TO @skzoologist AND @dean-a-mean-tae !! THEY BOTH GAVE ME IDEAS AND TIPS :]
☆ General ☆
Name: Asher Hutch (애셔 허치)
Stage Name: Ash (재)
Nickname/s (used by members/family/friends): Cuddles, Ashy, Koala
Nickname/s (used by STAY): Hutchy, Teddy
Date of Birth: June 26, 2003
Zodiac Sign: Cancer
Place of Birth: Bonn, Germany
Ethnicity: German-Korean
Height: 5’6” (167.64 centimeters)
Weight: 137.6 lbs (62.4 kg)
☆ Face ☆
Hair (length and original color): Black, prefers to keep mid-neck
Eyes: Left: blue, Right: green
Extras (blemishes, scars, etc.): Freckles sort of like Felix’s; all over his cheeks and nose, a mole on the upper right corner of his lip
☆ Facts ☆
He’ll mindlessly bounce his leg up and down or tap his foot, when he comes to his senses though, he’ll stop, fearing he was bothering someone with the constant subtle ‘click click’ noise
He has a kitten and is always looking forward to seeing him when he gets back to his home
He was 15 when Skz debuted
He trained for 2-ish years
He loves listening to girl groups and giving them support, his favorite is (G)I-DLE.
He has a very feminine sneeze but no one really knows why nor do they really mind, they just find it funny (his siblings and friends)
Ash has a younger brother and 2 older twin sisters, his brother is named Parker and his sisters are Tatum and Hayden
He used to wear brown contacts because he was self-conscious of his heterochromia
He has naturally pink cheeks
He has a baby-blue bunny that he can’t sleep without
When he got a phone for the first time, his sister Hayden, got him a Miku phone case so when that phone died for good, he was really sad but only because of the phone case (luckily though, he got a similar, if not better, Miku phone case and has it on his phone now)
If he’s sick in bed with nothing to do, he’ll mosey into the living room or a room with a comfortable laying place with a TV and either binge The Seven Deadly Sins or South Park
He keeps his 3 friendship bracelets on from his best friend whom he met in 6th grade and will often call that friend despite the time difference
If he had to marry a male idol who wasn’t in his group, he’d pick Beomgyu from TXT
He’s very afraid of any bug unless it’s the common beetle which isn’t very common for him because he’s only found them about 1-2 times
He kept most of his essays from 7th-8th grade because he missed all the teachers from those grades
He’ll cry for no reason whatsoever and will likely cry more when someone asks him what’s wrong because he has no idea why he’s crying, he just is
Once, in 7th grade, he jokingly asked his science teacher for a Diet Coke and she gave him one but she told him to not tell anyone or let anyone see it because she technically wasn’t allowed to give soda to students.
He hates wearing clothes so he’ll often wear shorts and a tank top unless he’s outside in fall-winter
Speaking of seasons, his favorite is Fall
If he had to pick between Pepsi and Coke, he’d easily pick Coke, specifically Wild Cherry Coke
Back at his home, he has almost 3 walls of squish mallows and even more that are crowding under his bed and on his bed
He used to be horrified of thunderstorms but after he hadn’t had one in a while, he was really happy when he found out that around his area, a very gnarly one was going to hit in a few days (but soon regretted it and went back to being scared)
If he could, he’d adopt a bear cub and raise it as his own baby, preferably a brown bear
His friends make fun of him (playfully of course) for cosplaying so many female or feminine characters like Felix Argyle/Ferris, Elizabeth Lionis, and Grelle
He gets his nails done professionally every few weeks and if he gets bored of the design but doesn’t have time to get them done professionally, he’ll ask on of the other members to help him paint them because of how shaky he is
He gets really happy whenever he finds a Cotton Candy Bang energy drink because he can never find them anywhere
He uses the 🩵 emoji the most
He gets really happy when he sees blue as it's his favorite color
I would add so much more but this is getting long

Great American Family has released details about its next Christmas movie featuring Lori Loughlin.
The Full House actress will star in Blessings of Christmas (working title), which will premiere as part of Great American Christmas that returns October 21. New holiday movies will premiere every Saturday and Sunday through the end of the year.
In Blessings of Christmas, Loughlin stars as renowned TV star Mandy Gilmore, who is saying goodbye to her hit culinary series, A World of Food, so she can travel the globe and dine in all 142 Michelin star restaurants. Before jetting to Paris, Mandy stops in Milwaukee with the deed to her deceased aunt’s food pantry, Angel’s Fare, recently purchased by adjacent business owner, Adam Carraway (James Tupper). It’s a simple transaction until pantry volunteer Otto Nessen (Jesse Hutch) reminds everyone that Aunt Susie’s love of cooking was actually love of feeding — which inspires one more holiday feast for those who need it most.
Loughlin’s last movie for GAF was Fall Into Winter, Loughlin’s first romantic comedy role since serving time behind bars in 2020 for the college admissions scandal. She previously appeared on GAF in When Hope Calls Christmas, which premiered on the network in December of 2021.
Blessings of Christmas is executive produced by Brad Krevoy, Amy Krell, Vince Balzano, Alfonso Moreno, Lori Loughlin, Susie Belzberg Krevoy, Jameson Parker, David Winning, Doran S. Chandler, Trevor McWhinney. Produced by Brian Dick. Supervising producer is Bradley Goodman. David Winning directs from an original screenplay Blessings of Christmas by Alfonso H. Moreno. Revisions by Andrea Stevens.

Get to know me
I was tagged by @stephmcx and @itwoodbeprefect and @actingcamplibrarian, ❤️❤️❤️
3 Ships: Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams (H50), Starsky/Hutch (Starsky & Hutch), Alec Hardison/Parker/Eliot Spencer (Leverage)
First Ever Ship: In a non-fandom sense, it would have been Fran/Max from The Nanny, who now I’m thinking about it may have very directly influenced the way I drift towards slowburns that are somehow simultaneously very fast-burns; in an at least semi-fandom sense (non-canon queer ship in a show that does and did have a fandom, although it took me a fair few years to come to it), House/Wilson (House MD). I’ve been watching The Nanny more or less my whole life so I can’t give a specific time on that one, but Hilson infected me at age six.
Last Song: Cleaning Windows - Van Morrison. my father played it in the car yesterday and now it’s stuck in my head.
Last Movie: Single All The Way..... what can I say it’s trashy Christmas rom-com season and I didn’t get to watching it last year. Falling For Christmas is next up.
Currently Reading: The Henchmen of Zenda by KJ Charles - it’s a gay romance adventure alternate POV retelling of The Prisoner of Zenda, a classic pulp novel that I have. never actually read. I am obviously enjoying Henchmen anyway because it’s a KJ Charles novel and I greatly enjoy everything she’s ever written and recommend them if you have even the faintest leanings towards historical queer romance.
(and the fact that two of you said the advent calendar. mwah 😘)
Currently Watching: ....i’m rewatching House MD. As you probably know if you’ve been bearing witness to my blogging habits. I’m also watching Abbott Elementary and Leverage: Redemption as they air, and Frasier and The OC. Latter two not as they air, obviously. And I’m rewatching The Nanny as I basically always am.
Currently Consuming: I finished my tea fifteen minutes ago. I keep meaning to get up and make another cup.
Currently Craving: sleep? I’ve woken up before 10am the last three days and we’re on holiday and had a Time of it last night trying to find a hotel at the last minute.
edit: now craving spagbol bc i reread #gayspaghetticouple but any cravings for laughter i may have had have been fully satisfied.
Tagging: @magical-friends, @krysten-knitter, @faorism, @thomtrebond annnd i think anyone else I’d tag has already been picked up. you, dear reader, if you so desire.

The Last Dance Receives China Theatrical Release Date
Columbia Pictures’ Venom: The Last Dance is essentially going day-and-date in China on October 23. The pic hits domestic theaters on Oct. 25. The first Venom in 2018 received a China grossing close to $270M unadjusted for inflation; the first Tom Hardy movie repping just over a third of the Marvel movie’s $856M global gross. The post-Covid sequel, 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage which made just over a half billion around the globe did not have a theatrical release in the Middle Kingdom. In Venom: The Last Dance, Hardy returns as Venom, in the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance. The first Venom opened to $80.2M at the October domestic box office, once the highest opening before being pushed to fourth; Warner Bros/DC’s Joker the fall month’s champ with at $96.2M. Vernom: Let There Be Carnage is the third highest opening for October at $90M behind the month’s second highest debut, Taylor Swift: Eras Tour at $93.2M. Venom: The Last Dance also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham. The threequel is directed by Kelly Marcel from a screenplay she wrote, based on a story by Hardy and Marcel. Based on the Marvel Comics. The film is produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy and Hutch Parker. Executive Producer is Joe Caracciolo Jr.  A little bit of good news for U.S. pics in China: 20th Century Studios’ Alien: Romulus crossed $100M there, the second MPA feature to do so after Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
