Cuz that’s the thing with Viktor, there’s not much that’s beyond his control these days, and that’s by design (...) you can’t do that forever. It’ll eat you alive.
Jayce learns the hard way when Viktor is about to implode. His movements become more stiff, with random bursts of gear grinding and jolts. The shimmer injectors working iust little more than usua. He goes almost mute, but when he talks the modulator sound even raspier. He doesn't take off the mask.
I was just gunna answer this with some more meta or analysis but you know what… this one deserves a little ficlet. Let’s call it Overheated.
Overheated
Jayce knew something was wrong the moment he stepped foot inside Viktor’s lab. Sure, the air was stifling from the myriad of running machines and clouds of puffy steam… but it was the subtle little in-between things that tipped Jayce off; like a single snagged thread pulling at a compromised seam. It was the why that mattered.
It was stifling and hot because something was throwing off Viktor’s usual protocols. Something was clouding his typically routine-oriented mind, keeping him from noticing the abnormally warm and hazy state of his lab. He was fixated on something, fixated hard enough that the best interest of his gadgets was slipping his mind.
Jayce could hear him before he could see him—loudly tinkering away around the corner in what stood for a measly bedroom. And there was a shortness, a tension to said tinkering that didn’t usually plague Viktor’s work. Usually, he was precise and careful to a fault; his work so clean, well… a machine might as well have done it.
And while Viktor’s moods were wholly different nowadays, given the emotional suppressor, Jayce was beginning to re-learn them. He’d once likened it to putting a diamond under a hydraulic press—it would be tough, it would be fortified. It could withstand more pressure than almost any other substance on the planet. But eventually something would give. And it wouldn’t go quietly, either; no, it would be explosive.
So rather than injecting himself into that maelstrom, Jayce steered clear of his former partner for now and instead went about doing what he knew he could to help—wandering quietly into the workshop proper and flipping the switch to power on Viktor’s air filtration system. If they’d been in Piltover, he could have just popped a few windows open, but down here in Zaun, that would just pollute the air further.
So next he went for the cooling fans over in the corner where Blitzcrank’s charging bay sat empty, and angled them toward Viktor’s bedroom before flipping those on as well. And finally, after listening for a moment and hearing only a loud crash and litany of mumbled bilingual curses, Jayce went for the small kitchen counter, rinsed the sole mug that didn’t have cracks in it, and poured a healthy amount of sweetmilk.
Then it was just a matter of wrangling this particular runaway train. So Jayce steeled himself, clutching the mug close to his chest as he meandered into Viktor’s bedroom.
It was immediately clear where the steam had come from—not the many running machines, though those were noticeably hot even from several feet away—no, it was Viktor himself.
The vents in his neck were set at an extreme angle, letting out puff after puff of heavy, thick steam that occasionally turned black when Viktor released a particularly strained breath. There was loud, chaotic rattling resonating from points of tension all over his mechanical body—his neck, his chest, his left arm and leg. And beneath it all, the subtle little hiss of the Shimmer injectors as they delivered micro doses like clockwork to combat his visibly agitated state.
That was the thing about suppressing his emotions… suppress them long enough, and they’re bound to recoil. It was simple physics—and while Jayce could have mentioned this, could have piped up about I warned you this would happen, that this isn’t healthy, and now look what it’s done to you, that would just be throwing gasoline onto the fire, and that was the last thing Viktor needed. So Jayce went a different route.
He cautiously stepped forward, patting Viktor on the back once to announce his presence before leaning past him and setting the mug down in the only mess-less corner he could find.
“You, uh… you wanna talk about it?” he asked, cringing at the mother-hen inflection.
Viktor did not answer—instead taking a single step to the side and deliberately turning his back on Jayce. The vents in his neck sent out another huff of black, and Jayce took this for what it was; don’t mother me, it’s insulting.
But Jayce wasn’t deterred—after all, why was a little mothering such a bad thing? Some care, some consideration, some warmth and doting? Everyone could use that every once in a while. Yes, even the infallible Machine Herald. Especially the infallible Machine Herald.
“V?” he prodded, his hand hovering at Viktor’s back as he tried to decide if touching was the best idea right now.
“No,” Viktor snapped, and even just from that one word alone, Jayce could hear the stress on the voice modulator—low and raspy, as if he’d recently spent a significant amount of time raising his voice.
“Okay,” Jayce agreed, retracting his hand and taking a step away—just freeing up Viktor’s space so he wouldn’t feel so constricted.
Instead, Jayce peered down at the project Viktor had been angrily funneling his not-very-suppressed emotions into. It appeared to be a modification for Blitzcrank’s revolving gadget arm; replacing several busted or outmoded gadgets and rewiring the entire thing to make switching between options a quicker and more seamless operation.
So without another word, Jayce pulled up a stool, grabbed Viktor’s spare pliers, and went to work—removing and rewiring the attachment ports, thus freeing Viktor up to focus on the gadgets themselves.
And for the longest time, they simply worked—shoulders bumping every so often as they just shared in the silence, in the heady weight of each other’s company. They worked, as they always had, like a well-oiled machine; wordlessly passing tools to each other and reading the other’s needs as if it were their own. And slowly but surely, the rattling within Viktor’s chest began to go quiet, the hissing tempo of his overworking injectors steadily slowed and eventually stopped. And Jayce could hear it more than see it when the tension in those rigid metal shoulders relaxed—a creak and a groan like hot metal plunged into an ice bath.
Finally, after Gods knew how long, Viktor’s movements ceased entirely—his hands stalling where they were turning a bolt on the wrist rotator and a single, long sigh leaving the voice modulator like struck glass.
Jayce mimicked it, stilling his hands and turning his head to peer at the flat, unreadable surface of Viktor’s mask with eyes that hopefully said are you okay now? That’s all I wanted, all that mattered—that you’re okay.
And he wasn’t sure how, but he could just tell Viktor was giving him a withering, grateful grin under that mask.
“Thank you, sluníčko,” he said, voice even and harmonic like morning church bells.
Jayce offered up a proud, toothy smile before leaning in and placing a quick, chaste kiss to the mask, right where Viktor’s lips would be—silently communicating that I know you feel like you have to keep it on sometimes, that you don’t like what you’re feeling, and you don’t want anyone to see that, even me. And that’s ok. Keep it on, if that’s what makes you comfortable. I can love you with it on just the same.
A new series of whirs and clicks went off in Viktor’s neck, followed by a short burst of steam, but this time Jayce knew them to be a good sign—the Machine Herald’s version of a blush.

Cat C7. The Cat C7 with ACERT™ Technology introduces a series of evolutionary, incremental improvements that provide breakthrough engine technology. The building blocks of ACERT Technology are fuel delivery, air management and electronic control. ACERT Technology optimizes engine performance while meeting U.S. EPA Tier 3 engine emission regulations.
Performance. The 325D L, equipped with the C7 engine with ACERT Technology, provides 12% more horsepower as compared to the 3126B ATAAC HEUI in the 325C L.
Automatic Engine Speed Control.
The two-stage, one-touch control maximizes fuel efficiency and reduces sound levels.
ADEM™ A4 Engine Controller.
The ADEM A4 electronic control module manages fuel delivery to get the best performance per liter of fuel used. The engine management system provides flexible fuel mapping, allowing the engine to respond quickly to varying application needs. It tracks engine and machine conditions while keeping the engine operating at peak efficiency.
Electronic Control Module.
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) works as the “brain” of the engine’s control system, responding quickly to operating variables to maximize engine efficiency. Fully integrated with sensors in the engine’s fuel, air, coolant, and exhaust systems, the ECM stores and relays information on conditions such as rpm, fuel consumption, and diagnostic information.
Fuel Delivery. The Cat C7 features electronic controls that govern the fuel injection system. Multiple injection fuel delivery involves a high degree of precision. Precisely shaping the combustion cycle lowers combustion chamber temperatures, generating fewer emissions and optimizing fuel combustion. This translates into more work output for your fuel cost.
Cooling System. The cooling fan is directly driven from the engine. An electrically controlled viscous

clutch fan is available as an attachment to reduce fan noise. The optimum fan speed is calculated based on the target engine speed, coolant temperature, hydraulic oil temperature and actual fan speed. The Cat C7 delivered a completely new layout that separates the cooling system from the engine compartment.
Air Cleaner. The radial seal air filter features a double-layered filter core for more efficient filtration and is located in a compartment behind the cab. A warning is displayed on the monitor when dust accumulates above a preset level.
Noise Reduction Technologies.
The engine mounts are rubber-isolating mounts matched with the engine package. Further noise reduction has been achieved through design changes to
the isolated top cover, oil pan, multiple injection strategy, insulated timing cover, sculpted crankcase and gear train refinements.
Hydraulics
Cat® hydraulics deliver power and precise control to keep material moving.
Component Layout. The hydraulic system and component locations have been designed to provide a high level of system efficiency. The main pumps, control valves and hydraulic tank are located close together to allow for shorter tubes and lines between components which reduces friction loss and pressure drops in the lines. The layout further provides greater operator comfort by placing the radiator on the cab side of the upper structure. This allows incoming air to enter the engine compartment from the operator side and hot air and corresponding engine sound to exit on the opposite side away from the operator. This reduces engine compartment heat and sound being transmitted to the operator.
Pilot System. The pilot pump is independent from the main pumps and controls the front linkage, swing and travel operations.
Hydraulic Cross Sensing System.
The hydraulic cross sensing system utilizes each of two hydraulic pumps to 100 percent of engine power, under all operating conditions. This improves productivity with faster implement
speeds and quicker, stronger pivot turns.
Boom and Stick Regeneration Circuit.
Boom and stick regeneration circuit saves energy during boom-down
and stick-in operation which increases efficiency, reduces cycle times and pressure loss for higher productivity, lower operating costs and increased fuel efficiency.
Auxiliary Hydraulic Valve.
The auxiliary valve is standard on the 325D. Control Circuits are available as attachments, allowing for operation of high and medium pressure tools such as shears, grapples, hammers, pulverizers, multi-processors and vibratory plate compactors.
Hydraulic Cylinder Snubbers.
Snubbers are located at the rod-end of the boom cylinders and both ends
of the stick cylinders to cushion shocks while reducing sound levels and extending component life.
Operator Comfort
Designed for comfort, simple and easy operation, the 325D allows the operator to focus on production.
Operator Station. The workstation is spacious, quiet and comfortable, assuring high productivity during a long work day. The air conditioner and attachment switches are conveniently located on the right-hand wall, and the key switch and throttle dial are on the right-hand console.
Monitor. The monitor is a full color 400 234 pixels Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) graphic display. The monitor angle can be adjusted to minimize sun glare and has the capability of displaying information in twenty-seven different languages.
Pre-Start Check. Prior to starting the machine, the system will check for low fluid levels for the engine oil, hydraulic oil and engine coolant and warn the operator through the monitor in the event display area.
Gage Display. Three analog gauges, fuel level, hydraulic oil temperature and coolant temperature, are displayed in this area.
Event Display. Machine information is displayed in this area with the icon and language.
Multi-information Display. This area is reserved for displaying various information which is convenient for the operator. The “CAT” mark is displayed when no information
is available to be displayed.
Standard Cab Equipment. To enhance operator comfort and productivity, the cab includes a lighter, drink holder, coat hook, service meter, literature holder, magazine rack and storage compartment.
Seat. A new optional air suspension seat is available in the 325D. The standard and optional seats provide a variety of adjustments to suit the operator’s size and weight including fore/aft, height and weight. Wide adjustable armrests and a retractable seat belt are also included.
Joystick Control. Joystick controls have low lever effort and are designed to match the operator’s natural wrist and arm position. The operator can operate joystick controls with an arm on the armrest and the horizontal and vertical strokes have been designed to reduce operator fatigue.
Hydraulic Activation Control Lever.
For added safety, this lever must be in the operate position to activate the machine control functions.
Automatic Climate Control.
Fully automatic climate control adjusts temperature and flow, and determines which air outlet is best in each situation with a touch of a button.
Console. Redesigned consoles feature a simple, functional design to reduce

operator fatigue, ease of switch operation and excellent visibility. Both consoles have attached armrests with height adjustments.
Cab Exterior. The exterior design uses thick steel tubing along the bottom perimeter of the cab, improving the resistance of fatigue and vibration. This design allows the FOGS to be bolted directly to the cab, at the factory or as an attachment later, enabling the machine to meet specifications and job site requirements.
Cab Mounts. The cab shell is attached to the frame with viscous rubber cab mounts, which dampen vibrations and sound levels while enhancing operator comfort.
Windows. All glass is affixed directly to the cab for excellent visibility eliminating window frames. The upper front windshield opens, closes and stores on the roof above the operator with a one-touch action release system.

Reach Boom. The reach boom features an optimum design that maximizes digging envelopes with three stick choices:
R3.75CB and R3.2CB Sticks.
The CB-family buckets associated with these sticks have enough capacity for excellent reach and depth in trenching and general construction applications.
R2.65CB Stick. Stick is suited to highcapacity buckets used in trenching, excavation, and other general construction work. It has been designed with enough reach and depth to match a large-capacity bucket and high digging force.
Mass Excavation Boom. The mass excavation boom maximizes productivity. The mass version offers significantly higher digging forces and allows use
of larger buckets.
M3.2CB Stick. This stick gives the largest working envelope with the Mass Boom and CB-Family Buckets.
M2.5DB. The DB Stick uses a D-family bucket and was designed for high volume earth moving, powerful digging force and a large capacity bucket. Combined with a Mass boom, this stick delivers outstanding productivity.
Super Long Reach. This configuration offers reaches to over 8.3 m (60 feet). It is well suited for ditch cleaning applications.
Linkage Pins. The bucket linkage pins have been enlarged to improve reliability and durability. All the pins
in the front linkages have thick chrome plating, giving them high wear and corrosion resistance.
Bucket Linkage. The power link improves durability, increases machine-lifting capability in key lifting positions and with the integrated lift-eye it is easier to use than compared to the previous power link.

The 325D has an extensive selection of work tools to optimize machine performance.
Heavy Duty Buckets. Heavy-duty (HD) buckets are used for a wide range of moderately abrasive applications such as mixed dirt, clay and rock. HD buckets have best loading and dumping characteristics and will empty easier
in cohesive material. More robust construction than the GP buckets.
General Purpose Capacity (GP-C) Buckets. General Purpose Capacity Buckets are best for digging in soft to hard ground with low to moderately abrasive materials.
Heavy-Duty Power (HDP) Buckets.
For use in moderately abrasive applications where breakout force
and cycle times are critical. Maximizes tip force and improves cycle times in most materials.
Heavy Duty Rock Buckets. Heavy-duty rock for aggressive bucket loading in highly abrasive application such as shot rock and granite. Features include:

•Side wear plated extend further up the side of the bucket for maximum protection in rocky soils

When starting to study Piping Stress Analysis, each piping line should be explored based on critical features such as fluid service, pipe size, pipe material, design parameters and loading conditions, and should be categorized either as stress critical (Level-3) or non-stress critical (Level-2 and Level-1) as shown below. The criticality level will dictate the method of analysis for each of the lines.
Level 3 – Stress Critical lines – Comprehensive Computer Analysis Required
Level 2 – Non Stress Critical lines – Simplified or Computer Analysis Required
Level 1 – Non Stress Critical lines – No Analysis Required
Stress Critical Piping Lines
Lines classified as stress critical “Level 3” should undergo comprehensive computerized stress analysis in accordance with the following criteria.
3” NPS and larger piping and design temperature ≥ 800C or ≤ 00C
6” NPS and larger piping all lines
Comprehensive analysis should be also required for the following lines
3” NPS and larger piping connecting to rotation machines
3” NPS and larger piping connecting to low allowable load nozzles (Air fin coolers, PCHE’s etc.)
2” NPS or larger lines on pipe rack with branch connections to modules. (Expansion loop is preferred if the line is running on long pipe rack or long straight pipe)
Tie-in connection piping 3” NPS and larger for offshore facilities
Lines 3" NPS and larger with a wall thickness larger than 10% of the outside pipe diameter. (Typical water injection, gas injection and flowline circulation piping)
Thin wall piping of 20" NPS and larger with wall thickness less than 1% of the outside pipe diameter (Typical gas turbine power generator exhaust piping)

Non-Stress Critical Piping Lines
Lines that do not fall under stress critical group should be categorized as non-stress critical. These are further divided into two levels, Level 2 and Level 1. The support span for noncritical lines should be based on the piping support standards.
Level 2 Non-critical lines
The lines that fall under this category require pipe stress engineer review and approval. For these lines a simplified analysis should be carried out using graphical methods, span charts, expected thermal growth, and other accepted industry methods. The final piping isometrics drawings should be reviewed and approved by the pipe stress engineer. At the discretion of the pipe stress engineer, if a non-critical line warrants rigorous computer analysis then those lines can be upgraded to Level 3. Some of the typical Level 2 lines are:
All large bore lines operating at ambient temperatures & not covered in Level 3
Large bore utilities lines operating at ambient conditions
Lines that require pipe support load estimation and flange evaluation
Level 1 Non-critical lines
The lines that fall under this category require no formal stress analysis. The lines are usually field routed by experienced site engineers. These lines will undergo a visual check using engineering judgment and available support charts. Some of the typical Level 1 lines are:
