WIP of Sea Slug Y/N
It was initially between Cyerce Elegans or Hypselodoris Bennetti... But I'm tempted to just have several outfits for various slugs~

I've been making ✨ glittery nudibranch stickers ✨
Did you know there are thousands of described species of nudibranchs? That's more slugs than I'll ever be able to draw... so for now I'm sticking to ones that can be found in our local waters 🙂
This is Hypselodoris bennetti, a sea slug that can be found along the coasts of southeastern Australia. The red spots on their body are a warning signal to would-be predators 🙅
I'll have these at my table at Supanova Melbourne in April!

I rlly like thinking of the slugcats as those like. Inbetween mammals. yknow like you can’t really tell where they fall :3c mostly mustelids
survivor - European polecat + Doris odhneri
- standard ferret thing
monk - mink + Doris montereyensis
- it was funny
- i thought having both surv and monk as similar slugs was neat
hunter - american badger + Okenia rosacea
- badgers are mean but also protective
gourmand - raccoon + Doriopsilla albopunctata
- c’mon it’s so fitting
- also that slug is called a “white spotted sea goddess” and I thought that was rlly funny
spearmaster - marbled polecat + Edmundsella pedata
- just something abt them
rivulet - sea otter + Hypselodoris bennetti
- bffr
- I was actually rlly surprised there was a sea slug that fit rivulet so nicely
saint - fisher cat + Costasiella kuroshimae
- they just look the same to me
- I’m a slugcat fur denier he is WET and SLIMY
artificer - tasmanian devil + Aplysia californica
- also speaks for itself
- California sea hares are so ugly I love them <3

Little guy alert!
Tumblr media
Just a pastel little sea slug. Sea slugs are just here to chill and they are doing great.
(hypselodoris bennetti)
AGREED. What a wonderful little guy! I especially love those beautiful reddish spots it has. Sea slugs, much like this one, would definitely have to be some of my favorite tidepool inhabitants!

The Creature Awaits #99:
Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry.  Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they haven’t seen it before. : )
Welcome back to Nudibranch Month!

Bennet's Hypselodoris
Scientific Name: Hypselodoris bennetti
Region: Southeastern Australia
Size: This one is also only up to 2" (~5.1cm) long, but is usually even a bit smaller than that
Interesting Note: This gorgeous little dorid nudibranch feeds almost exclusively on a particular sea sponge, Psammocinia sp.  This sea sponge strengthens its skeletal system with sand.  Like other nudibranchs and many other mollusks, Hypselodoris bennetti is able to break into this hard material using its radula - a surface inside of its mouth, made of chiton, comprised of many rows of tiny scraping teeth...kind of like getting licked with an extreme version of a scratchy cat tongue. ; )

The Hypselodoris Bennetti is a brightly coloured nudibranch native to Southeastern Australia. It can grow to be about 5 cm and feeds on sponges. Their eggs are a bright yellow, and rather large, as their larvae are similarly shaped to the fully matured sea slugs of the same species!
