today somebody asked me if they should start community and I told them that in one episode they have to fight zombies at a community college to the soundtrack of ABBA and increasingly personal voice memos because the Dean served the entire school radioactive taco meat from a military dumpster and I just don’t understand how that wouldn’t immediately convince you to watch a show.

But what if the study group is brought back to save Troy (from the pirates, yeah) and then something happens and then theres some legal issues and Jeff has to go back but he can't and the others (read: Annie) convinces him to go back (why, one of them (Abed?) could give a Winger speech, like in the finale of S4) and he does, and then the issue is resolved and everyone moves out of Greendale, with a final parting look at the school and Jeff and Abed going "I see your value now"-ish something and Britta then looks at some "protestor" teenagers and smiles a little and then everyone goes their separate ways? And then.....the epilogue goes something like "Troy and Abed made a movie". That part was a little far fetched, but whatever.

But then the dean could say to Frankie when she's like "they were a good bunch" that they'll come around and the camera pans at "Greendale".

(A/N: This is an idea I've had since long before Pride Month, but somehow it's the penultimate Pride Month fic I've posted. I've started a (slow) Community rewatch for the first time in at least a year, so hopefully that will motivate me to get back into writing for the show. I mean, this blog started out as a Community reader-insert fic blog, so who would I be if I stopped writing for it? I think I got a bit burnt out writing for it so much, but I'm ready to write more for it again. I'm hoping to get through some of the really old Community requests on my to-do list by the end of the year- we'll see! And, if you want to make a request for Community, with a nonbinary!reader or not, feel free to send one in.)

Annie and Abed are definitely the ones who find it the easiest to gender you correctly.

With Abed especially, he doesn’t treat it as a big deal, and he’s for sure the most understanding of it in the group.

Annie might be a bit awkward and ask questions of varying levels of appropriateness.

If you wear a pronoun pin or express a desire to get one, Annie will buy you matching pins in the same style.

Abed wants to be a good friend to you, so he’ll ask you outright if he’s not sure about something.

Jeff might not completely understand, but he finds most things easy, including getting your name/pronouns/etc. right.

He doesn’t bother asking you any questions; he figures everything out for himself.

Like Abed, he’s pretty good at not making your gender a big deal.

Britta will 100% be your biggest advocate.

She will always correct people if they get things wrong (even if you tell her she doesn't have to).

(If she ever accidentally misgenders you, Jeff will smugly correct her)

She will argue with Pierce if he’s a dick to you (more on him in a second).

And, if you run into any issues at Greendale, she will fight tooth and nail for you.

Troy gives off 'his pronouns are 'they/them'' energy.

He thinks that nonbinary people are cool as fuck.

He has a baseline understanding of it.

Like Annie, he asks you a lot of questions (also of varying levels of appropriateness).

A lot of his questions are outright bizarre compared to hers.

(‘Where does your gender fluid come from?’, for example)

Shirley doesn’t get the whole nonbinary thing (at first at least), but she will try her absolute best to show you respect and kindness.

And, despite her lack of understanding, she will stand up for you in a very motherly way.

(She will bring an eager Britta and a reluctant Jeff as her reinforcements)

I’m not sure where I stand with Pierce.

I can see him constantly making bottom of the barrel jokes about your gender that no one finds funny, and will either doubledown or backtrack with a defensive ‘what, can you say anything these days?’

But, I think with all the spiritual stuff he’s into, he might be comically understanding and accepting of nonbinary people. 

(It’s comical considering how bigoted/prejudiced or at the very least insensitive he is about race, gender etc.)

Maybe he’s a mixture of both of those things?

Either way, I can see him confidently making the dumbest and wildest claims about nonbinary people.

(Troy may or may not believe half of them and ask you to confirm)

And, on the rare occasion he says something right about nonbinary people, you’ll shamefully have to admit it.

As the years go on, it’s rare that any of them thinks much about your gender.

Even the ones who don’t understand it will get used to using your pronouns and gendering you correctly.

Everyone in the Study Group would, despite their varying levels of understanding, show as much respect to you as they do one another.

No matter your gender, you’re one of them, and that’s all that matters.

Shirley Motherfucking Bennett (Yvette Nicole Brown doesn’t know if she’s going to be included, makes my teeth grind, she NEEDS to be there)

Frankie Dart (Paget Brewster so deserves to meet Troy and Shirley, I need to know their dynamic and if the steel drums bit shows up. She deserves the world!)

Professor Ian Duncan (John Oliver was so charmingly awkward in the show, it’d be an absolute farce if he didn’t show up for at least 5 minutes)

Magnitude (Luke Youngblood’s character is so needed, just ONE “Pop - POP” would ease my struggles)

Garrett (Erik Charles Nielsen’s story may feel finished, but how is Garrett doing? Is he still at Greendale?)

Neil (Charley Koontz’s story didn’t end by the end of the TV show, I would like to know if he’s happy? Is he hosting a famous DND Webshow? Tell me what happened to him!!!!)

I just need to know if they’re okay. And if Yvette isn’t in the movie I will be so upset, she deserves so much better than being forgotten by Harmon because she may not be important to the plot. Same with Paget’s character, though she was only here for one season she was lovely while she was here and she is SO a part of the nipple-dippers.

Community headcanons. Yes, it's my current hyperfixation.

Jeff Winger:

-Has ODD(Oppositional Defiant Disorder)

-Everyone thinks he's a narcissist but in reality he's just self sufficient

-The entire study group thinks he's secretly rich

- Firm believer that sexuality is fluid and has definitely explored its.. options...

-Lactose intolerant but is oddly insecure about it

-His leader position in the group comes from his need to be in control because he feels like any factor in his life that was out of his control went wrong.

Britta Perry:

-First, I wanna say her character was absolutely ruined. She had so much great potential.

-Uses activism to make her feel good about herself but after Annie and Shirley wanted to become activists, she felt like she lost her individuality. She stopped paying attention.

-She has a strong need for everyone to like her and has a crippling fear of abandonment.

-She thinks her real issues are with her dad but really, they're with her mom.

-Queer.

-She thinks she's the mom friend when in reality, it's Shirley.

Abed Nadir:

-He's probably the most complex character in the series. Also I consider him to be a comfort character so this is partial projecting..

-Daddy issues.. kinda canon

-He knows he's on the spectrum even though in the show he never gets/got a diagnosis because the thought of actually being different and not just having small "quirks" scares him.

-He understands and has romantic feelings but can't pursue them for long periods of time, he's probably scared of commitment and only commits to the study group because they're all so different that he doesn't feel excluded.

-Also canon, but he despises change.

-Craves physical touch but only from Troy.

-He has selective mutism.

-Maladaptive daydreams.

Troy Barnes:

-ADHD

-Codependent on Abed because he lacks self awareness and Abed being uncomfortably self aware helps him feel balanced.

-His crush on Britta was platonic.

-He can't tell the difference between platonic and romantic feelings.

-He's terrified of being alone.

-Part of him thinks he and Abed are more than friends but part of him really doesn't want that.

-Pansexual.

Annie Edison:

-ADHD

-Lesbian.

-Her crush on Jeff was purely comphet and stems from her parental issues and Jeff's parental position in the group.

-Her parents were probably homophobic and she tried coming out but then later just pulled the "I'm confused" card.

-She was in therapy but she stopped going because she had to pay for it herself.

-She's the "therapist" friend, but gives pretty bad advice because she has too many of her own problems.

Shirley Bennett:

-Hyperempathetic.

-She thinks everyone's problems are her responsibility.

-She uses religion as a crutch but has questioned her faith a considerable amount of times.

-Making food is therapeutic for her.

-The actual mom friend but hates the pressure of being a maternal figure.

-Scared of failure and projects that fear onto her friends.

-She has a bad habit of deflecting.

Pierce Hawthorne:

-Insufferable bastard.

-When Jeff graduated he wanted to take the "dad" position since he had always wanted kids.

-He had one wife and they were married for 2 months, he just says he has seven because he thinks he sounds cool.

-Has been to rehab numerous times.

-Thinks he can relate to the study group but the study group thinks he's utterly insane.

Chang...:

-He was bullied as a child.

-No sense of self and is always trying to find an identity.

-After his wife left he searched high and low for what's wrong with him, he's just eccentric.

-All of his elaborate stunts are because he wants to be noticed because he has a fear of being forgotten.

-Bisexual.
