f1gossip: the long awaited second studio album from y/n y/l/n just dropped and it’s safe to say… she did not hold back. the majority of the album is full of gut-wrenching breakup anthems (looking at you, lando 👀). tracks like love is embarrassing and stranger are especially telling — we’ve included some lyric snippets for you to read yourself. but the real kicker? the final track is the only love song on the album, and y/n revealed in an interview this morning that it was a “last-minute addition” she “only just recorded”… safe to say all signs point to charles leclerc. what are your thoughts? are we witnessing a soft launch in song form??

things get better before they get worse (a chp 4 weird route analysis/ramble)

(AKA how toby somehow managed to make the weird route even more awful and upsetting than it already was)

the weird route's continuation in chapter 4 is genuinely so much more sickening than i was expecting, but the thing that really hurts me is how the events of snowgrave have been recontextualized, and how all of us ended up being wrong about what the "point of no return" is for this route.

obviously, massive spoilers for deltarune chapter 3&4 weird route below.

to really explain the main point i want to focus on in this post, let's first briefly go over where the weird route left off at the end of chapter 2 and how the fandom generally expected things to go from there.

after returning to the light world, noelle assumes (or at tries to convince herself) that it was just a dream. and even if you make kris wear her watch, it's vague enough that noelle could still reasonably try to convince herself that they just somehow swiped it off her when she wasnt looking.

however one of the main things was that noelle vows to figure out why kris has been acting so differently recently.

thus myself and many others assumed that when we next saw noelle, she would be trying to investigate kris's behavior. maybe trying not to act uncomfortable around them, or maybe even making excuses to hang around them (despite the trauma she endured) to try and figure out what's going on with them.

we all also seemed to kinda assume that kris is just kind of stuck as our puppet here. they can't do anything about any of this, they're forced to just stand by in horror as we force them to do these things to her. a captive in their own body.

so when i started chapter 4 on my weird route save file and noelle took initiative to be the one to invite kris and susie over, that's immediately what i assumed was going on. i assumed she was trying to act somewhat normal and was bringing kris over in order to analyze their behavior in her quest to figure out what's going on.

i WAS a bit caught off guard by how really none of her dialogue around holiday manor changed, and i started to almost get a bit nervous that the effects of snowgrave on her mental state werent really being shown like i thought they would.

then she says she wants to speak to kris in private and i thought oh god, ok. this is where it's gonna kick in. she's putting on a happy face in public but when they're alone together she's gonna crumble and start asking why they did what they did and everything.

and this is when the cruelest part of the route hits.

because when we eavesdrop on their conversation, we find out some devastating information.

...kris apologized to noelle after snowgrave.

when they pulled the soul out at the end of chapter 2, they went to noelle's house and apologized for everything. they gave her her watch back (if you took it). they pulled the thorn (that becomes the thorn ring) out of her finger. they desperately tried to salvage their relationship with her after we ruined it.

but the thing that hurts the most about this, is that it WORKS.

noelle believes them. she accepts their apology. she's just so, so devastatingly happy that kris is back to being themself.

and we can see that without our involvement, at least for the time being, this is how it stays. if you just select either of the regular options, the aborted route jingle plays and things go back to normal.

i dont think ANYONE really expected that things would be salvageable after snowgrave. freezing berdly was treated as the "point of no return," where things would never be the same and kris and noelle's relationship would be forever tarnished. it was tragic, but it was expected.

but this makes it SO MUCH WORSE. because now we know that WASN'T the point of no return. by some miracle, kris successfully managed to clean up after us and mend things. there is a world where snowgrave happens and things still manage to mostly go back to normal.

which is why it hurts SO much more when we're able to ruin things again - for good this time.

this has to be one of the most devastating lines of the whole thing to me. think of how terrified and confused noelle is. kris had told her that everything would be fine and they were sorry. that they would protect her. and now from her perspective, its like all that was just a lie to get her guard down. it's awful.

this is the real point of no return. because there's literally no coming back from this, even aside from the noelle trance stuff. the first time she was able to trust them, but we've broken that trust forever now. if kris tries to do the same thing they did before, to apologize and fix things, she'll never believe them.

and that's of course not even discussing the presentation of this scene. the way the colors drastically shift and the screen darkens the second you say "me", the way everything sounds, how utterly horrified noelle looks the entire time, the way kris moves towards her and grabs her arm all zombie-like. and of course, when they actually stab her with the thorn... it's genuinely sickening.

the fact that it all happens in her room too just makes it feel so much more awful. this is her private space, where she should feel the safest, and yet...

but i think one of the other major reasons why this chapter's portion of the weird route was so upsetting is that we're finally getting to REALLY see kris's reaction to everything.

in chapter 2, we had the few bits of dialogue like susie's comment about kris looking off and the abort dialogues, and just the general understanding of kris as a character, to be able to determine that kris did NOT want to do snowgrave. they were suffering too, and it really adds to the horror of the route that kris is a victim as well.

but just like a lot of stuff with kris before these new chapters, it was pretty vague. if you paid attention you could get an understanding of what they were probably feeling, but it was very much in the background and sort of just implied.

but here? we finally get to REALLY see how our actions in snowgrave affected kris. and we get to see firsthand just how upset they are and how much they hate us for what we've done.

learning that kris tried desperately to salvage their relationship with noelle afterwards and specifically told her to not mention that they did in order to protect her from us is... i mean it's not surprising, it's what i've assumed they'd want to do all this time, but seeing it actually happen in the game after so long of just speculating... it's really really upsetting. they were trying so hard to keep us away from her.

and then, god. the scene afterwards of them kicking us in the bathroom. i was genuinely so shocked, i had my hand over my mouth when i saw it for the first time. seeing firsthand just HOW furious and upset they were, how loud the noises were every time they kicked the trash can, how hard they hit the soul and how long it went on for... it made me feel so bad that i legitimately whispered "im sorry" at the screen without even thinking about it.

and the fact that even after that scene, we get more moments of kris clearly not being ok. them starting to hyperventilate when theyre made to think of noelle, them getting so angry at us trying to make them "pray for noelle" that they smash the hope candles... literally no one can try to say that kris wanted to do snowgrave EVER again. toby's made it abundantly and heartbreakingly clear just how much they hate what we've done.

there's obviously more i could talk about when it comes to the new parts of the route, but these were the main points i wanted to focus on as i really think these two things (the reveal that snowgrave wasn't the point of no return, and kris's reactions being much more overt) are what make it so upsetting.

and from what we've seen, it's only going to get worse from here.

Bi Han:

REAL arguments with him only last a few minutes, and after both of you suffering through a long day; but it would take him even longer to get over your spat. He'd never admit this even to you, but Bi Han takes everything you say straight to his thawed heart, even if you didn't mean it.

Is the type to storm off if things get bad and you start to raise your voices. He never wants to let it rise to that degree but doesn't know how to mitigate the situation without walking away.

He'll be disgruntled for a while but won't be spiteful or passive aggressive towards you. Though you'll definitely feel guilty when you don't see him in the evenings as much and his brothers ask you if he's alright.

Just needs some space to cool off and it's best you leave him be until he's ready to apologize. If you were solely in the wrong he'd still want to apologize first.. It's strange but he'll feel pathetic if you had to apologize to him before he does to you.

I feel like he'd have an avoidant attachment style, so the instant he feels your bond straining he tells himself he doesn't need you as a way to cope with his hidden anxiety about being unable to make-up.

The best way to patch things up with Bi Han is to go about your normal routine as a way to reconcile. Greet him when you pass by during the day, like you always do. He'll come around, and quietly appreciate that you're still here. 💙

Kuai Liang:

Is quick to let it go, there's nothing that could keep him away from you for long. Petty arguments aren't something he'd tolerate since he's fully aware it's unhealthy. If it's a substantial conflict, however, he will stay with you until you two resolve it.

You would have to ask Kuai upfront for some space and time to clear your mind. He'll be patient but start to get nervous the longer you keep to yourself.

Due to his arguments with Bi Han growing up, where his older brother's pulled away from him into adulthood, Kuai is afraid you may keep a grudge against him forever. Hence why he's eager to swiftly snuff out any miscommunications or disagreements with you before they blow out of proportion.

If it takes longer than a few hours for you two to feel better, he won't let it rest into the night. Will seriously have you both stay up to discuss what happened, what he should do next time, etc.

It will either be through careful conversation or until one of you falls asleep (you) for there to be resolution, in his eyes at least.

Kuai would dissect the conflict so rationally that he almost forgets to apologize until you say it first, after that things go back to normal the next day with both of you exhausted but content. 💛

Tomas Vrbada:

Ok, I'm not going to lie to you.. He's stubborn. Not in the same way as Bi Han, but in like the youngest sibling type way where he can be a bit whiny when you two have a real, heated fight.

Doesn't seem to understand it's an argument at the start, which is where things can get misconstrued and lead to hurt feelings. Tomas is also very expressive, so there'd be times where he flashes a look that you (understandably) take the wrong way that leads to even more strife.

It takes longer than needed to resolve your conflict because of this, and it can lead to indirectly involving his brothers when they overhear you two arguing. And then look to each other in confusion about what the quarrel's even about.

Both of you agree at least on taking time off from the fight and resolving it later, to which things naturally fizzle out anyway, or just agree to disagree and move on because it's just not worth it.

He's of course eager to let it go with no hard feelings, but he will be a bit sore since he's not used to arguing like that and isn't sure how to move on from it, even after saying sorry. Regardless of who's in the wrong, he'll insist you don't need to apologize.

Since he's afraid of things flaring up again, he'll be a bit withdrawn with his affections if he isn't sure things are a-ok now. Would be up to you to carry things on from there so he can happily follow your lead. 🩶

Mack knows better than to hover near the locker room, but today he can’t help it.

He’s leaning against the wall outside the media zone, arms folded, one foot propped against the concrete like he’s been doing this forever. There’s a paper cup of burnt coffee in his hand, mostly for something to do with his fingers. The familiar stink of sweat and rubber and freezing air bleeds from the open hallway that leads down to the room, and Mack breathes it in like it’s something holy.

The boys are just off the ice, still in that loud, messy haze of post-game chatter. They won tonight—barely—and Mack had watched from the suite seats the team sets aside for family and “personal guests,” the vague PR term they use for people like him.

It’s still weird, being a hockey WAG. Even weirder when you’re a guy.

But Will’s his. And Mack’s Will’s. That’s what matters.

He’s scrolling idly on his phone when he hears it—just past the corner, a voice too loud and too cocky for someone who’s been in the league a week.

“Who’s the guy outside?” someone says, laughing. “That your agent or something?”

Another voice: “Nah, he’s too hot to be an agent.”

A few of the boys chuckle, but one of them—definitely that new rookie, Riley or Ryder or some other try-hard ‘R’ name—keeps going.

“No, seriously, I saw him at warm-ups too. Tall guy? Dark hair? Tight jeans? Fuck, I’d hit that in a heartbeat…”

The words hang in the air like a slap.

Mack stiffens. He hears it all, clear as a bell, the thin drywall doing nothing to muffle the rookie’s voice. There’s a low rumble of someone trying to change the subject, but then—

“Watch it.”

It’s Will.

Mack freezes.

The room falls quiet, just for a second. Mack doesn’t move, doesn’t breathe. Then Will’s voice again, low and sharp.

“You’re talking about Mack.”

There’s a pause. The rookie laughs uncertainly. “What, is he, like, your brother or someth—?”

“He’s my boyfriend,” Will says. No hesitation. No apology. Just steel.

Silence.

Mack’s heart stutters.

Will’s still talking, calm but dangerous now. “And you don’t get to talk about him like that. Not in this room. Not anywhere.”

Someone exhales, maybe Eky. A towel drops. The rookie mutters something that sounds like “sorry,” but Will’s not done.

“He shows up to every game. He watches every shift. You wanna prove you belong here?” Will says. “Try doing something that earns his attention instead of talking shit behind his back.”

The rookie goes quiet.

Mack should leave. He really should. But instead he finds himself pushing off the wall, heart in his throat, and stepping into the doorway.

The room stills.

Twenty sweaty hockey players turn to look at him. Some blink. Some smile in that oh-shit way that says they definitely heard everything. Will’s still half-dressed, jersey off, shoulder pads hanging loose. He’s flushed from the game, hair damp, eyes already on Mack like he knew he’d be there.

Mack raises an eyebrow. “I distract you that much, huh?”

Will’s mouth twitches. “Every time.”

Mack walks toward him, pretending not to feel the room watching. “You planning on punching a rookie every time someone notices my ass?”

Will shrugs. “Only the disrespectful ones.”

Mack stops in front of him. The locker room smells like gear and victory, and Will looks at him like nothing else exists.

Behind them, someone coughs awkwardly. Someone else whispers, “holy shit,” and Mack doesn’t care at all.

Will hooks a hand around Mack’s wrist. Doesn’t pull. Just anchors. “You okay?”

Mack looks at him for a long beat. Lets himself soften.

“Yeah,” he says. “But I’ll be better after you shower and buy me tacos.”

Will grins. “Done.”

They walk out together, Mack just a half-step behind. And if anyone still has something to say, they know better than to say it now.

It's because this author isn't willing to keep "it" in their pants! I'll admit that R's best Itager doujin relies on sticking close to things himaruya has already written to keep it standing strong. To clarify, none of these are absolutely terrible awful "killed my grandma" kind of things. All of these comics compared to the average gerita comic are WONDERFUL. But if we are looking at it alone without the context of the gerita invasion our world is suffering from, these OK-bad tier comics do have key components wrong with them. If anyone is interested I suppose I can make another post annotating what is wrong with these comics, but I feel like that is unnecessary and a bit cruel considering R doesn't seem interested in the ship anymore. Sometimes people live and die in the wrong era, and you must acknowledge their faults, but still be understanding of the situation they were in.

If you've read all the English translated doujins for this ship floating around online, you probably recognize this author and are surprised this is here! Yes, they have a billion jillion gerita doujins and i hate all of them LOL. But this one pixiv comic is the one time they got something right. Hakoniwa seems to have this problem that (aside from gerita... although I think this is a symptom of having gerita aids) they make this ship way too emotional in an angsty sadness manner! I understand that their focus is that they prefer exploring the emotional depth of ships rather than making humorous situations, but they're doing it all wrong! (this isn't even to mention how I think that humor and emotional depth are things that can exist side by side; even complimenting each other if executed properly....) I feel like people get the idea with ships that sadness/angst = depth, which is untrue. emotional components that twist your heart around and bring you to tears can come from sad AND happy things, it just seems to be that it's much harder to execute with happiness. People think angst and fluff are opposite things when really, they're two sides of the same coin, with both of them being done terribly most often LOL. I don't consider myself someone who likes fluff or angst at all actually, because it seems that when people describe something as either of those things, neither of them provoke the feeling im supposed to have. I think that with itager, it has lots of depth in its emotional components, but these components are made of things that make you feel so heartwarmed that you could cry. This comic does not reach that level, but it is for once an emotional comic that Hakoniwa gets RIGHT. This is canon compliant. This is something that would happen. This is ITAGER!

FANFICTION:

There is no good itager fanfiction. There is very few mid ones. maybe one or two OK/almost good ones. but no solid good ones. and this is coming from a guy who spent the last 6 years scouring ao3 and fanfiction dot net. In my opinion, hetalia fandom has this wretched curse that it will uniquely be the only fandom with so much fanfiction with none of it being good. Good hetalia fanfiction does not exist for Itager and Romapru. For other ships maybe, but at least for the two I'm into hell No. Everytime I come back to ao3 it just leaves me upset and unsatisfied like that stripper that i KNOW doesn't actually love me and just wants my money, but I keep coming back hoping shell change her mind.
