He’ll only be an hour away, Gun reminds himself.
Tinn is hugging his mom now, bag on the tile ground, ready to depart the station. Gun traces the lines of his back hoping to burn them into his brain. He sees the loop on Tinn’s shirt and mentally hooks a finger in it, projecting a fantasy where he pulls Tinn close and whispers, stay stay stay and Tinn does.
He has to let him get on the train, though. Even though Gun himself, will be departing tomorrow for his own academic journey, University starts for Tinn this week. He quickly scans Tinn up and down, memorizing the general shape and as many details of his boyfriend that Gun has been intimately acquainted with; the hairs on his neck, the curve of his face, his long legs. If he closes his eyes he can still see the outline. He thinks back to the last few months they just shared, the quiet moments laying wrapped up next to each other in bed, bodies pressed close, lips just whispers away. He compares it to the sound of Tinn’s voice over a phone call an hour away and shrinks. He feels a deep grey sadness creep into his chest, unshed tears pulling at the corners of his eyes.
Tinn steps back from his mother as she brushes a wetness from her cheeks with the back of her hand, a soft fond smile on her lips. Tinn gives his dad a short but firm hug. He backs away and rests a reassuring hand on his mothers arm, fresh tears falling on her face, a quick “good luck, I love you, don’t forget to call” tumbling past her smile.
Then Tinn turns to Gun and he’s not ready.
Gun reflexively squeezes his eyes shut as he pinches his nose with his thumb and index finger, a silly technique he’s used a lot this week when thinking about this moment. It works…sometimes. He’s not sure he’s doing it to prevent crying or to avoid seeing his boyfriend’s face for the last time. He’s been so strong about this the past few days. He didn’t want to cry but as Tinn draws closer to him the possibility of Gun breaking here, now on the platform, feels inevitable.
As though he read his mind, the edges of Tinn’s mouth quirk upward in a small melancholy smile meant only for Gun.
“Gun,” Tinn says, incredibly fond. He reaches up and gently pulls Gun’s hand away from it’s position on his nose. Gun finally looks up to meet Tinn’s gaze, keeping their hands locked together. He’s not letting go, he doesn’t ever want to let go.
The rest of his boyfriend’s handsome face goes wobbly and blurred as Gun’s eyes well up and spill over. He’s going to miss Tinn so much.
Gun reaches for Tinn’s other hand and Tinn takes it willingly.
“Hey, hey. I’m only going to be an hour away, okay? And I’m going to visit you in two weeks, remember?”
The tears keep coming, fresh new ones falling with every word Tinn says, the ache throbbing in Gun’s chest.
He pulls Tinn into a hug, wrapping both arms tightly around the other boys body, holding, holding, holding him in his arms for as long as he still can.
He squints and sniffs into Tinn’s shoulder. “I love you, Tinn.”
He’s said it a hundred times these past few months, but it carries all his worry, heartbreak and sadness now.
Tinn pulls away too soon, but keeps his eyes fixed on Gun’s. He cups Gun’s shining tear-striped face in his palms, and Gun realizes Tinn’s chest is heaving; his eyelashes and cheeks are freshly painted in tears, his big brown eyes turn red.
Tinn thumbs careful circles in Gun’s cheeks, “I love you so much.”
Tinn pulls Gun’s face towards his own slowly. Softly, their lips slot together. Gun tastes the saltiness of Tinn’s tears mixing with his own and closes his eyes to savor and commit it all to memory. It’s wet and fond and all so incredibly soft and a smidge embarrassing because Tinn is kissing him here, in front of his parents but Gun doesn’t really care because he needed this goodbye. He needed Tinn’s firm hands and warm lips to ground him and remind him that they will see each other again. For now, Gun floats in this tiny chunk of time made just for them.
His face relaxes into Tinn’s grasp and he delicately grabs Tinn’s waist and pulls their hips a little closer together. Gun moves his head to the side and kisses Tinn back, dizzy and lost in the the push and pull of Tinn’s lips against his own.
It’s too early, too difficult to break away, but after several lingering seconds (neither one wanting to pull away from the other), Gun breaks the kiss.
Tinn keeps their foreheads close. Gun sniffles and wipes his nose with the back of his hand.
“I’ll see you in two weeks,” Tinn states and a smile glows on his boyfriend’s mouth.
Gun smiles back and lilts, “You should go, don’t miss your train.”
“Yeah,” Tinn sniffles and wipes away spots where old tears are drying. “Yeah. Okay. Two weeks.”
Tinn pulls Gun close for a second, too brief time and it’s Gun who pushes them apart, afraid Tinn will actually miss his train if don’t let go of one another.
He doesn’t let go of Tinn’s hand until Tinn is walking away from him to pick up his bag and Gun moves closer to Tinn’s mom and dad instinctively, watching.
Tinn’s parents call a last “Bye, son! Text me when you get there,” and Gun takes a deep breath, noticing it’s easier to crack a smile now.
Tinn “goodbye’s” and darts his eyes between his three favorite people, his gaze lingering on Gun’s face. He walks backward for as long as he can before he turns, disappearing from sight completely into the station.
When he is long out of sight, Gun squints his eyes one last time and sees his boyfriend’s tall outline in the front of his mind.
It’s only two weeks, Gun reminds himself.

I dont know why, but I keep thinking about Mike holding baby Abby for the first time. The way he'd swear to protect her the way he should've protected Garrett. Promising to himself that she'd never be taken from him.

i’m still thinking about these two interactions jean has with abby. my first reread i was a little confused and surprised by how short and almost rude is towards jean and his trauma until i realized on the reread i just started: it’s only been three months since she patched up neil after winter break.
and neil doesn’t tell her or wymack the full story (hell, he doesn’t remember the full story) but from what he does remember and what he might have communicated, it puts jean in a very fucking bad light. even with some of the context that she might have about jean’s time in the nest, which is only a tiny piece of it, she can’t stop herself from blaming him for his role as bystander.
and from reading the rest of the book it’s clear that no one really understands how kevin and jean were forced into being bystanders to each others trauma. they don’t understand. they can’t understand. so it makes perfect sense to me that abby is angry at jean because, in her knowledge of events, he allowed riko to hurt one of her foxes.
and this is what i find so interesting about the depth that nora gives abby here. in the main trilogy, abby is kind and caring and empathetic and loving. and she is still all of those things, but tsc makes me realize just how much of that is in the context of the foxes. and obviously several of these characteristics transfer over to jean: she takes care of him, she patches him up, she gives him shelter and food, etc. but she is still so affected by what happened to kevin and neil in the nest. and now it makes me want more of abby’s perspective on aftg and its events

ALSO!! (Sorry forgot what I was gonna say or I would’ve included it in my last ask)
Your ‘Abby is observant but she’s still a kid’ statement. I love it so much because it shows that she doesn’t have to grow up so fast, she has someone who’s taking care of her and let’s her be a kid! Honestly I think Mike and Abby’s relationship is so fucking great
Mike actively asks about her drawings and actively tries to engage with her and even if it’s met with nothing he doesn’t give up, he’ll try again at a later point!
(Also also, I think Mike is more observant then we’ve been giving him credit for)
literally literally literally literally..... tad off topic but i feel So bad for mike because like . no sibling should have to take care of their younger one. like here it says mike would probably be in his mid to late twenties and honestly i forgot if they ever said what age either mike or abby was when she went into his care but that's still rather young to be caring for a child (your sibling) you didn't plan for ..
like i could only imagine him wanting a normal sibling relationship with abby instead of being her parent, why wouldn't you. you love your younger sibling but this isn't how your life should have gone. now you're struggling with your rent and getting a job that works with the fact you're a single dad basically and. you can't blame your sister because you love her so much and you would rather her be in your care than anyone else's but. god why did your dad have to leave and why is nobody helping you 💔. you don't even believe you're raising her right and you just. want her to have a normal life and you want a normal life but
Anywyas.
also yeah!! he's like. for the situation we've dropped him in, he's like the normal guy observant. i mean he figured out that the kids his sister always talks to and draws before he got this job are the kids in the animatronics and he figures out a whole lot about vanessa and. i think he's observant he just doesn't believe he's doing a good job ever so

daydreaming, heart racing | robert 'bob' floyd x oc
Rating: T+ Word count: 1.7k (idk what happened) Prompt: Bottom left picture posted by @barnescastle, sent to me by @roosterbradshaws Warning(s): Hot, semi-naked men (?) Summary: It's quiet on base, so Abby is tasked with finding the missing aviators. She finds them after dogfight football, and her brain short-circuits when spotting one Lt. Robert 'Bob' Floyd.
A/N: This is all Becca's fault for showing me that picture of Lewis Pullman. She's an enabler first, human second, and I'm not mad. Bob deserves all the love, and we all deserve more Bob content. Remember, likes are appreciated but comments and reblogs are golden and motivating.

It shouldn’t have shocked her, but it did.
He was part of the first TOPGUN class she was in charge of on behalf of Warlock. Bob hadn’t needed much or asked a lot of questions, preferring to figure it out himself, but they’d spoken a few times on base.
At the Hard Deck, they’d spoken more. They’d shared shy smiles and locked eyes across the room, and he would make her laugh without trying.
Abby liked Bob. She was sadder than she reasonably should have been when he graduated and left.
So, when he came back for a special mission, her heart surged. She saw his name on the list of recruits and felt giddy joy forming in the pit of her stomach. She looked forward to seeing him, wondering if he’d changed at all in the year since she last saw him.
He hadn’t, not really.
His hair was longer, a faint hint of scruff on his jaw as if he’d gone an extra day without shaving, but the glasses were the same, and his smile was still shy.
A week into training for the upcoming mission, Captain Mitchell decided the aviators needed to let off some steam and learn to work as a team. They disappeared from base, and an odd silence fell over the air station.
“Are they up in the air?” Warlock asked as he walked into Abby's cramped office.
She looked up from her computer screen, meeting the older man’s dark eyes.
“I think they’re playing football,” she told him. “I heard Maverick say something about team building and dogfights.”
Warlock glanced over his shoulder as if contemplating what to do about it. He turned his attention back to Abby with a faint smile.
“Go down there,” he told her. “Keep an eye on them.”
“Yes, sir,” Abby replied, standing and rounding her desk. She left her office behind her superior, who disappeared into his own office.
Abby shot a text to Penny, asking if she’d seen a group of aviators playing football. Penny’s reply was a photo of the mission recruits, including the man who’d occupied Abby’s mind for over a year, running after a football on the beach.
If Abby briefly zoomed in on Lt. Floyd, that was nobody’s business but her own.
After a short drive, she parked in front of the Hard Deck and got out of the car. She heard them before she saw them. There was laughter, the distinct sound of Rooster singing, and wolf whistles going around. Abby smiled as she entered the bar and found Penny stocking the fridge behind the counter.
“They’re still at it?” She asked after greeting the bar owner.
“I think they’re done,” Penny said, glancing out the large patio doors. “And they’ve taken over my chairs.”
Abby couldn’t see them from where she stood, but as she moved closer, they came into view. They were all gathered on the beach, just beyond the deck at the back of Penny’s bar. Rooster stood, his arms spread wide as he serenaded the aviators. Hangman covered his ears while Fanboy, Coyote, Payback, and Phoenix laughed. Abby watched Maverick shake his head, but he couldn’t keep the smile off his face.
Abby didn’t see Bob.
“He’s out there,” Penny said as she came up next to where Abby stood. She should be embarrassed that she was so obvious in her infatuation with Bob, but Penny had seen right through her whenever Abby tried to deny it.
“You should do something about it.”
Abby turned her head to look at her friend. “He’ll be gone again in a couple of weeks.”
“Maybe,” Penny noted. “That shouldn’t stop you from having some fun.”
Abby pulled a less than attractive grimace. “He doesn’t strike me as the ‘just a bit of fun’ type,” she said, running her hand over her slicked-back hair. “And frankly, neither am I.”
She moved towards the door to finally do what she’d been tasked with: Keeping an eye on the recruits. She opened the patio doors and stepped onto the deck. None of the aviators noticed her right away, but Abby's eyes immediately found Bob.
She swore her brain short-circuited.
Bob rested on a lounge chair and a striped towel with his hands behind his head for support. He was only wearing shorts, but the rest of his body was on display, and Abby couldn’t help but gawk at him.
He was more fit and toned than she’d ever imagined. The lines of his torso weren’t nearly as defined as any of the others, but he wasn’t far behind, and she could still see his abs flex when he breathed. She wasn’t entirely sure she was breathing at this point. There was a slight dusting of hair across his chest, and if she squinted, she was sure there was a small patch of hair just above his shorts, too.
It shouldn’t have shocked her, but it did.
His eyes were closed, and thank god they were. Beside the chair was the yellow t-shirt he’d been wearing, and his glasses were placed neatly on top. She didn’t know how long she’d been staring at him when Hangman said her name.
“Hm?” She asked, willing her eyes away from Bob, who had now opened his.
“You spying on us?” Hangman asked.
She shook her head and moved down the steps on the patio and into the sand.
“Not at all, Lt. Seresin,” she said and sat on the steps, undoing the laces of her boots. “But Admiral Bates did wonder where you had disappeared to and sent me looking.”
In her periphery, she saw Bob slide his glasses back on his face.
“Are we needed back on base?” Maverick asked, his expression serious.
Abby shook her head again. “No, I think he was just wondering,” she told them, slipping the boots off her feet and placing her socks into them to keep them off the sand. “It was too quiet around base without you.”
Bob had stood up, still shirtless, and Abby did her best not to watch him as he came closer. She focused on rolling up the legs of her uniform trousers.
“Could have invited me, though,” she said and stood.
“We figured you were working,” Bob said, speaking for the first time as he stood next to Phoenix.
Phoenix nodded. “Bob did suggest we invite you,” she told her.
Abby looked at the WSO, whose cheeks had turned slightly pink, though it didn’t appear to be from the sun. “You did?”
He reached an arm up to scratch the back of his neck. “Yeah,” he muttered, and Abby watched his biceps flex. She barely registered the playful elbow in her side courtesy of Rooster.
She leaned down and grabbed her boots. “Well,” she announced. “Since I’m already here but missed the fun, I’m going to walk a little. See you all back on base,” she said with a wave of her empty hand.
Bob stared at her back as she walked towards the water. He watched her take her hair down, letting the long brown locks cascade down her back. Phoenix elbowed him in the side, much like Rooster had done to Abby a few minutes ago.
“Ow,” he muttered, rubbing his ribs to soothe them. “What’d you do that for?”
She gave him a knowing look. “Go after her.”
“Why?”
Phoenix raised a brow. “Don’t play dumb with me, Floyd,” she admonished. “You’ve been pining for her since you got here.”
He stood there, looking from his friend to Abby, who moved further and further away. He turned his attention back to Phoenix. “What if she thinks it’s weird?”
“She won’t,” Rooster cut in. “I have it on good authority that she’s into you.”
He didn’t, but Bob didn’t need to know that, and he didn’t need any more encouragement because he took off towards Abby in a light jog.
“Lt. Lennox,” Bob called, and Abby smiled to herself, happy that he followed. She turned and watched him jog towards her, but she hadn’t expected him to still be shirtless.
Warmth rushed through her as he came to a stop unbearably close. She could smell the sweat and salt water on him, and she wanted to press her nose to his skin and breathe him in.
Instead, she smiled up at him. “Lt. Floyd,” she greeted. “What can I do for you?”
“Bob,” he corrected her, voice clear and strong.
“Bob,” she repeated. “Then I have to insist you call me Abby.”
He nodded his agreement.
“What can I do for you, Bob?”
He looked over his shoulder at the group of aviators, who offered him thumbs up and encouraging noises neither of them could make out. “Nothing,” he said finally.
“Then why are you-“
“I’d like to take you on a date,” he said, cutting her off. “If you want to, that is, and if this crosses a line, I’m sorry. We can just forget I asked and go back to being…” he trailed off when he felt a hand on his bare chest.
He looked down at Abby's hand and then back up at her face. Her dark eyes were bright, her smile was soft, and Bob forgot how to breathe.
“I would love to,” she told him.
His eyes lit up, and Abby wished she could bottle that expression and keep it forever. “Yeah?” He asked.
“Yes,” she agreed, letting her hand fall away from his chest. She hadn’t meant to touch him, but when he started talking, her hand had done it of its own volition. She hadn’t been in control of her movements. She had felt his muscles move beneath the smooth skin, and she had been struck by how fit he was.
“Okay,” he said, scratching the back of his neck. A nervous tick, she realized.
“Text me,” Abby told him and stood on her tip-toes to place a kiss on his cheek, but it ended up being dangerously close to his mouth. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Bob,” she said and started making her way back to her car. She waved at the other aviators as she passed them, and they shouted their goodbyes.
What Abby didn’t see or hear was the cheering and pats on Bob’s back when he told his teammates of his upcoming date.
“Well done, Bob,” Phoenix said, giving her backseater a playful nudge.

Cecil: Uh... Abby?
Abby: Yes, Gersh?
Cecil: Why is the house full of boxes? Are we packing for something?
Abby: Oh! Shit! I knew I was forgetting something. Me and Janice are moving.
Cecil: *trying not to panic* What? Why? Did... did I do something wrong?
Abby: Wait a second. *looking on her coat's pockets* Is here somewhere. *handles an envelope* Here it goes.
Cecil: *still panicking internally* What's this?
Abby: Your invitation to the wedding.
Cecil: Wedding?
Abby: Yes, I'm finally marrying Steve.
Cecil: Abby?
Abby: What now, Gersh?
Cecil: Who the fuck is Steve?
