repeat clients i see you and i love you

#thinkin ab this bc the commission I just posted is for a client who has bought from me many times before #and there are a few other ppl who have bought from me a few times (looking @ you tootsie) and i am genuinely so grateful #like the thought that these people bouht from me #and then liked my art so much that they repeatedly sought me out again for more #it warms my heart like??#when I was a little kid I wanted to do art for free because it made me so happy to make things for people and see the joy it brought them #and now I know I can’t do that for free #it’s just not sustainable and it would both burn me out and keep me from y’know. getting money which is important #BUT repeat clients like this give me that sense of joy that I get when I know someone really truly genuinely loves my art #it’s one of the best feelings there is for an artist #and it gives me a lil more motivation in times like this when I’m dealing with art block #sorry. sentimental tings ig #nice and sweet clients ily you guys make my day

quite possibly a me thing that i just need to get over but something that always gets my back up a little bit is when posts will be like ‘X people are allowed to reblog this’ or ‘X people can read this’

#like. this is a public platform.#and in a broader sense i guess you can’t choose who is and isn’t allowed to consume art and this is kind of an extension of that #by all means block someone who says bigoted shit #but once you put something out on the public internet you don’t really get to choose who can and cannot lay eyes on it #actually. PARTICULARLY in the case of stories and fiction it’s extremely counterintuitive to imply most of a genre isn’t ‘allowed’ for some #like a story with a disabled protagonist should be read by abled people because that is a good way to:#a) normalise the idea that not every protagonist has to relate to you (by which i mean be white attractive abled and probably straight)#b) introduce people outside a demographic to the struggles and experiences of those within the demographic #aj abstractions
