Peggy, angrily: Das ist alles deine Schuld!
Howard: I know, I know...
Jarvis: You speak German..?
Howard: No, I just know the phrase "this is all your fault" in every language Peggy speaks.

this was gonna be in the tags of a reblog of a post abt the miette pronunciation poll but i closed the app for two seconds n it refreshed my dash so,
i know the second language you learn at school in an 'english is the official language' country is determined by a variety of factors. and i do know in england it's french mostly cuz france is Right There. but it took me many years to realise that second bit so any time an english native speaker doesn't have at least some idea of how to pronounce french words i am so thrown. i took french for five years. what do you mean we didn't all take french for five years

[int: a bakery in Annecy]
me: ok brain, I got an A in GCSE French, I must remember some right? brain: yes! you remember 'merci'! and 's'il vous plait!' and 'pardon!' and 'je suis desolée'. me: ok that's a pretty good start. we're in a shop. how do you say you want to buy some bread? brain: uhhhh... je voudrais.... une baguette? uhh... 「そのパンを買いたい」!そうです。「そのパンを買いたい」と言って。 me: ok. hold on a second. I'm not even sure that's a natural way to say it in Japanese. let's try an easier one. how do I say what my name is in French? brain: ooh! ooh! 私の名前はブリンです! me: try again? brain: je m'appelle bryn.です。 me: I see. ok. if we beg enough for merci we might just survive...
[two months later. BRYN is packing.]
me: ok brain. it's time to redeem ourselves, we're going to Germany tomorrow. we also have a German GCSE. how do you say "i would like to check into my hotel?" brain: ich möchte... ホテルのチェックインする。ください? いいえいいえ!えと。。。s'il vous plait. no, damnit! .......bitte! brain: ........................................ brain: hey did you know, in Portugese, you say 'obrigada' or 'obrigado' depending---

Been to like 5 bookstores trying to find a book in English for learning German. No dice. Surely there's a market here. So far my closest approximants are the German English pocket dictionary (very helpful!) and now a GCSE review book for German. Probably should just use Amazon but that's slower and less fun. However walking through bookstores with enough German knowledge to know they're full of good books I can't read is killing me a little. I tried an international bookstore. They only sold fiction which is bad for my quest but I did get dubliners and white noise for like 30 bucks total. So this is a win

what gcses do you think the ark took?
very important information i need to know
all of them took music. easy passes for them, yaknow? they need something simple like that so they can manage band life at the same time.
jimmy probably took all humanities otherwise, so like history/geography/RPE (religion, philosophy & ethics, this was an option in my school idk if its slightly differsnt in other schools but u get what i mean.) im leaning more towards history and RPE. i feel like hes good at debate, more because he feels like he has to be over than enjoying it all that much. bitch learns about topics he doesnt care for out of spite. with his anxiety, he still prefers written essays though.
for some reason i can see rowan being very good with your classic academics like maths and science. id say he took triple science and some kind of business studies.
lister took history, only because jimmy was taking it, and art because he thought it would be easy (it wasn't.) he only passed music and english literature, which he scrapped a C in, but ended up settling for it. rowan passed his exams with A*/A somehow, lister thinks hes just naturally good but he put a lot of effort into that, probably got sick with stress as soon as exams were over. jimmy passed most of his exams but failed science.
you didn't ask but im doing the girls too;
bliss also took art because she thought it would be easy, history and geography. (these were literally my gcses but technically i did photography)
angel also seems like an arty gal. going to say she did art too, as well as compsci. for some resson i can see her doing some sort of language? im not sure why. something like french or german, because she wasn't sure what else to take. these are purposely all over the place because she had no idea what she wanted to do. she someone got into psychologh a-level at the end of it instead. she keeps it real.
juliet was definitely pushed to take classes she hated by her parents. business, law, triple science. all that shit that they say will set you up for a successful future. she gets through them at the cost of throwing away her sanity for academic validation. she passed with mostly A/A* and one or two B's, which she was proud of until her parents compared her to her friends or classmates who did better. (i love juliet angst shes sooooo i love her so so much)
ALSO JADE OMONDI. def took compsci, probably business too, and some sort of creative, like photography over music id say. also not related but i feel she took things like violin or piano lessons through school too.

Thank you for the tag @ailendolin ♥♥
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Currently 67
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
197,359
3. What fandoms do you write for?
BBC Ghosts, mostly, at the moment, but I also do some classic lit fics every now and then
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A second (minor) heart attack
Cast Back (embarrassingly)
House Share
A piece of the universe
Not quite like the books
5. Do you respond to comments?
I do. I feel like my replies aren’t all that thrilling, but I always try to say thank you!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I have a (possibly) bad habit of needing to end with at least a glimmer of hope, however, I think ‘where the evening splits in half’ is angsty (I mean, it refs a canonical character death and one that always makes me sad) and ‘a workshop of filthy creation’ (for lack of resolution/continued pain)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Maybe the whole ‘Not to get mushy but…’ series. ‘Those That Love Us’ and ‘House Share'. I think contentment, connection, found family and love are the vibes the endings give, so maybe that’s what counts as a happy ending?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not that I can recall
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I tried, once. I think it’s really bad, so I won’t be doing anymore for now.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not really, unless we’re counting ‘Uninvited Guests’ or ‘a workshop of filthy creation’ which could be considered crossovers with my original works, as they feature my OCs. I did, however, once write a modern AU crossover of Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights and The Italian in my first year of uni, but that shall remain buried somewhere in my laptop.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I don’t believe so!
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I’m not sure – I either find I like one thing or several equally so… Still, as I’m answering this as a writer, my favourite to write has been Julian/Robin or Lucy/Ginevra
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I’m not sure I’ll ever finish the next parts of my Ginevra/Lucy fic (a continuation of ‘Don’t let them get you down, you’re the best thing I’ve seen’) – I tend to just add to it every now and then, when I feel inspired.
I have also started gathering ideas for a sequel to ‘workshop of filthy creation’ and I have a few lines noted, but right now, I’m not feeling inspired to write it. Never say never though.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Perhaps writing narrative voices that fit and align with the character they’re trying to capture, and from whose perspective the story is told from? By which I mean making conscious word choices, thinking about thought patterns, using appropriate metaphors and tones for that character?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I definitely struggle with plot – and while I’m not really one for grand, action packed narratives, I do sometimes feel that instead of taking the straightforward path from A to B when I’m writing, I tend to meander, get distracted by other details, get tangled up in reflections and reminiscing, so everything I write is slow. I also struggle a lot with endings – a desire to tie things up probably too neatly, or an inability to actually just reach the ending? That, and I can often be a slow, slow, slow writer, so I might start a piece and take weeks to actually complete it, which can lead to tone shifts, I think.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I wouldn’t personally feel comfortable doing it, because my GCSE German is awful, I’ve never learnt another language, and I’m not sure I trust translators for full sentences. In terms of the practise in general, it is fits in with the canon, and ‘makes sense’ for the character – sure, I don’t mind. I mean, I’ve read Charlotte Bronte’s Villette after all.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
It was for a British comic I believe, back when I was 12/13…I did re-upload it from ff.net to A03, so if you really want to read it, you can, but don't expect much.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
My personal favourite is probably ‘Don’t let them get you down, you’re the best thing I’ve seen’, because it took a lot of work, combined some of my favourite things and allowed me to use what I researched and wrote on for my MA dissertation in a creative way?
My other favourites are:
‘Those that Love Us’ - this was fun to write, and I enjoyed the challenge of capturing the vibe and language of the book, while also making it my own.
‘A Second (Minor) Heart Attack’ - a very early Ghosts fic, but it made me smile
‘House Share’ - possibly because it was such a project and I completed it
I'll tag @someoneplsloverobbierotten @sonnet-of-anarchy @its-a-hare-pom-pom @natequarter @thelastplantagenet and @athelstan-anglecyning, if you wish :)

henlo it is i the headcANON, here to go ramble about everyone's favourite little guy, casey. its insane to me just how much you've endeared me and many other tcoti fans to this silly fella
i can see casey going to a religious school (the only difference from a non religious school is you learn re but literally no one cares lol), most parents will try and send their kids there cause they are known for being better schools (they get more funding for extra lessons), and casey couldnt give less of a shit about it
i also think he wouldve went to an all boys school, he just sorts acts like he did lol
whilst in school my man would try and break every single dress code policy known to man, half of the time hed just show up in his pe clothes, the other time hed show up with no tie, no jacket, a coat and whatever else he could fet his hands on that he wasnt supposed to have (english schools have really strict dress codes, idk why its dumb)
he knows a small amount of spanish, in most british schools you are forced to do mfl (modern foreign languages) and its usually either french or spanish (you rarely have a choice to pick which you want to do), some will let you pick up german and even mandarin but thats usually at gcse level or as an extracurricular activity (which most kids are also forced to do). he isnt fluent in spanish, not by a long shot, but he definitely knows how to have a conversation, albeit very scripted and short. however, one thing he does understand is how to swear in spanish, and what it sounds like. i imagine him and his friends just looking it up on the laptops during class time, definitely to annoy their teacher.
so i have this image in my head that gray doesnt like swearing all that much (maybe fresh got to him lol), so he tends to swear in spanish or french because the british boy wont understand - alas he does
casey could not be arsed with most lessons because he didnt really care about getting a good education since he couldnt see all that bright of a future for himself, if one at all, but he was actually quite good at maths and history, even when he tried not to be
he has been shown on more than one occasion, undernovella, and whilst he was put off it due to it 1. being in spanish, and 2. the cast being played 99% by monsters, he actually really ended up enjoying it by the end
hes also been getting into anime and manga ("dude its like a comic book but even more brutal"), mostly shonen like one punch man and dragon ball, but he also really enjoyed sailor moon and doesnt want to admit to it, he liked the romance and friendship aspect of it, also pretty girls
he has always been into comic books, his favourite super heroes are deadpool and spiderman
before he met gray (properly), he mostly played shooter games (ones that were free or cheap), fortnite, valorant, and a pirated copy of fifa, because thats what guys play. if his past self saw his year 4 stardew valley save file, hed spontaneously combust
i think he also plays splatoon now, he mains the dualies because theyre cool, hed definitely be an inkling as well but thats an au for another day
zelda too
despite everything thats happened, he really did grow to love his last foster mum, she was a single lady and she treated him like her own son. hes had bad experiences with the foster care system in the past (breaking news: fork found in kitchen), parents only taking him in for the money, some wanting to complete their family and forcing him to live by their ideals, all that bad stuff, which is why he often ran away from them. he had run away from his last foster mum, two times before, but it was very early into their relationship before they got to understand each other better.
his last foster mum asked him what his hobbies were his first night at her house, he didnt know, so she suggested he pick up an instrument - he decided the guitar, because it looked cool. he almost cried when she offered to buy him lessons, he didnt take her up on the offer, determined to learn it by himself, and he did
he has a really nice singing voice he'll never let anyone see - hes a lyric baritone
also whilst in canon hes a brummie, i like to imagine he was born a bit further north (hes a mackem to me), and moved to birmingham to be with his most recent and last foster parent, and that he lived there for so long thats hes picked up the accent
he felt really bad leaving her but managed to convincr himself that she would be better off without someone like him in her life
casey is a very traumatised child, he has a lot of triggers and boundaries he doesnt fully understand himself, plus a boat load of unhealthy coping mechanisms (mainly smoking and socially isolating himself)
he tries to keep his bad habits a secret from gray, because he doesnt know how he would feel about it - he knows, he doesnt like it but he isnt exaclty the greatest at having healthy coping mechanisms himself, at the very least he tries to get him to swap one for another, instead of smoking play stardew valley with me for 37 hours straight :) ?
he often struggles with the idea that hes a burden, so he doesnt let people spend money on him, or give him gifts
he also struggles to express his emotions (hes british unfortunately), and has a hard time saying 'i love you' to anyone, the only person he never strugfled saying that to was his mum
bit of a trigger warning, im going to be talking about casey's injuries and all that jazz, so if you dont wanna read, head to the next bullet point! casey shouldnt be alive, the injuries he suffered were severe, the paramedics were convicned he was a lost cause (still they have to do everything they can), so it was a shock to all when he pulled through. this was, however, not without a bit of a battle, and it left permanent effects on his health. casey's lungs are horribly scarred (smoke inhalation will do that to you), and it doesnt help that he smoked before and after. his nerves on the left side of his body where the support beam collapsed on him, are quite literally fried. where it hit directly, he cannot feel anything there, the areas that were dames by the fire however are unbelievably sensitive and painful to the touch. even after the scar healed it stills remains sensitive, so he bandages up those areas. the beam also broke and bruised a lot of his bones, mostly his ribs and the bones in his arms. his left ear is also burnt, and a portion of it, mostly the tips of it, are straight up missing. after recovering from the initial injury, he had a skin graft taken from his right thigh to supplement the damage done to the left side of his face. for a while after he had to take a lot of pain meds, and undergo a ton of therapy both mental and physical - even still hes not fully healed
casey loves animals, particularly dogs. his last foster mother had a german shepherd, and he used to let it sleep on his bed. it made him feel safe and loved. dogs and cats also just like to come up to him on the street, bros a disney princess for real
beefed with paperjam for a while, both had a lack of trust in each other, but they got to be on equal ground after a while, that didnt last long, not since after chapter 31..
hes fighting demons (bisexuality)
ever since he met gray and by extension his wack ass family, hes grown more and more accustomed to monster culture, particularly their disregard for gender norms and compulsive heterosexuality, and hes been experimenting with his gender expression, he never thought hed actually enjoy dressing in pink or taking care of his hair. he tried painting his nails, but did not have the patience to let them dry, he still sometimes wears it, albeit chipped and blotchy, but he thinks it suits him
he has always been fine with being labelled a man, but sometimes he doesnt feel as though it fits him, not entirely, hes not sure what his gender is because sometimes male really does fit him, but other times he just wants to throw the whole concept of gender away, hes stuck with unlabelled for a while and feels as though it somewhat fits him
he once buzzed his hair cause all the guys in his school did for whatever reason, he cried for several hours afterwards and got nicknamed sampson for a week, biggest mistake of his life - bro experienced dysphoria for the first time in his life
celebrates gyftmas because its way cooler than christmas (I NEED A GRACEY GYFTMAS ONESHOT ASAP), he celebrates the majority of monster holidays since everyone (1 to 2 people at max lmao) in the house he currently lives in does too. is confused as to what monster halloween is supposed to be
likes going out with gray (which is once in a blue moon), his favourite spot is waterfall, but he also really likes snowden and hotland
- headcANON
Holy shit HEADCANON I AM EATING SO WELL
Also I hope you don’t mind me tagging @ottererpop because they’re a Casey enthusiast as well and they must see all of this solid gold.
I Must respond to some of these AAA
- I talked with multiple people about how Casey is ABSOLUTELY breaking every dress code he possibly can. Like he would come to school in the bare minimum to not get expelled but his “uniform” would just be wrinkled to hell and his tie would just hang around his neck completely untied
- Casey is genuinely intelligent and if he actually tried in school he would do really well. However he’s a massive shithead and doesn’t care because of how depressed he is
- I do have a very specific speech pattern and tone of voice for him in my head but I’m not sure exactly how to write it. Also about him being from Birmingham - he’s not really from the main city itself but more generally around that area, so he very well could lived farther north and end up closer to the main city has he went to live with foster parents. Im purposefully avoiding getting too detailed with exact places and cities because then it just becomes hyper-specific.
- he absolutely would love undernovella - he love sitcoms so he would adore those over-dramatic plot twists
- He and his current foster mom (before he left ofc) have a tolerable relationship. She was often gone from the house and left him to his own devices, so he would mostly just skip school and play games on his computer all day, which did annoy her significantly.
- his smoking is partially a coping mechanism, partially a peer pressure “cool guy” thing that he picked up, and partially something that could very subtlety equate to self-harm. I could get into a whole thing about his smoking habits. He doesn’t smoke that often, but it is definitely something he tries to hide from Gray. Or at least not make it obvious. Like I said recently PJ has caught him smoking cigs over the kitchen sink while Gray’s been asleep.
- you are correct in your assumption that he doesn’t feel anything on the part of his torso that was severely burnt.
- I’m sure he has shaved all his hair off at some point. In the past he for-sure had one of those haircuts that’s short and buzzed all on the sides but long on the top, or at least buzzed in the back.
- gray’s family and the entire omega timeline being extremely unlabeled when it comes to gender and sexuality, like it’s not a big deal in the slightest, is definitely a massive change for Casey and he struggles to understand it. He’s grown up in an environment where he’s constantly felt like he has to prove how tough and unfeeling he is in order to get ahead. That’s why he’s so embarrassed of his severe sweet tooth, because he’s scared it comes across as “girly”. He’s by no means sexist but he definitely is over-anxious about not being perceived as “weak”.
- I’m sure he would absolutely adore waterfall :)

Duuuuuuude please make a Peggy gcse headcanon list that sounds so fun!! If you decide to do it too I'd love to be tagged in it!
AAA STOP ILYSM YOUVE LITERALLY GIVEN ME MOTIVATION FOR THIS NOW 🫶🫶
so, without further ado...
PEGGY CARTER GCSE HEADCANONS!!
!! FOR ANY NON-BRITS/PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW WHAT GCSES ARE, I'VE LINKED A WIKI ARTICLE HERE !!
!! also i know that different schools have different systems for GCSEs, but im just gonna go with what mine did :) !!
SO.
We all know Peggy had to do Maths, both of the Englishes and triple Science, but i feel like she wouldve LOVED English Lit the most. She would've definitely been one of those kids who were like best mates with their English teacher fruity behaviour?. She was also definitely one of the student librarians for her school's library.
~---💬---~
For language, I am a firm believer that Peggy did German and Latin. She probably would've picked German because Michael did (the classic familial language gcse sitch), but i also feel like she would've really liked classics in year 7 and 8 (grades 6 and 7 i think) and decided to stick with it for GCSE. I also think she didn't like French at ALL.
"Why in gods name do I have to memorise the gender of a chair?? Who decided that bloody rubbish??"
(shes so real though ngl, genders are the bane of my existence)
~---🌍---~
Like language, Peggy was probably a double humanities student. She probably did History and Geography, and her favourite topics in each would've been the Tudors for history (she would avidly defend Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard in lessons) and the human side for Geography!! She probably looked at NY as a case study for overpopulation and rapid-rate industrialisation and rolled her eyes, muttering about what sort of madman would willingly stay in a city like that.
~---🔨---~
Lastly, her practical subject. This was a tie for me between PE and Product Design, but I realised I know nothing about GCSE PE (core pe girlies unite), so I'll go with PD for now.
Peggy definitely put her heart and soul into her NEA (non-examination assessment, basically coursework) for Product Design. By the first week, she probably had like a billion sketches done up and had started looking at materials. I feel like her mother didn't like Peggy doing a "man's subject", until Peggy built her a birdhouse that looks like their house and all was forgiven. She definitely met all her NEA deadlines on time, too. Like, she was an academic WEAPON. Even her teacher was scared of her when she was using the saws and that.
~---✏️---~
In terms of overall results, she was definitely one of those people who got all 9's (grade A**), and would probably've cried if she got an 8 (I would be too scared to tell her my results ong 😔)
In terms of A-Levels, I'd have to think about that one ngl, so if this post does well, I might do an pt2!!
~---💕---~
@captainsophiestark thank you sm for the ask and giving me motivation to actually write this out and post it 😭🙏

The French School System - Part 2
Part 1 is here.
(This is accurate as of June 2023, but the way the Éducation Nationale is going, it probably won’t be so for much longer...)
SO! Part 2. Small explanation of Collège.
(Under a cut because it got long.)
Collège is the first part of secondary school, so what you’d call middle high in the USA I think? At the end of Collège is the Brevet, which is roughly equivalent to UK GCSEs.
These are the years (taken from my previous post):
“Collège” - 1st part of secondary school (at the end of 3ème is the Brevet (equivalent to GCSEs) which certifies the end of Collège) - equivalent to middle high (US) 11 - 6ème - Year 7 - 6th Grade 12 - 5ème - Year 8 - 7th Grade 13 - 4ème - Year 9 - 8th Grade 14 - 3ème - Year 10 - 9th Grade
Ages are the usual age when starting the school year.
*
Here are the usual time slots for each year in only the mandatory classes (so without options):
Tumblr media
6ème: 26 hours/week without options
French: 4h30
Maths: 4h30
History-geography (+ a weird ethics and civics thing): 3h
First language (other than French, typically English): 4h
Science (in 6ème it’s regrouped as a general big thing instead of being subdivided): 4h
Sports: 4h
Art: 1h
Music: 1h
5ème: 26 hours/week without options
French: 4h30
Maths: 3h30
HG (+ the other thing): 3h
First language: 3h
Second language (mandatory, other than French, typically either Spanish/German/Italian): 2h30
Biology + Earth Sciences: 1h30
Physics + Chemistry: 1h30
Technology: 1h30
Sports: 3h
Art: 1h
Music: 1h
4ème: 26 hours/week without options
Exactly like 5ème.
3ème: 26 hours/week without options
French: 4h
Maths: 3h30
HG etc: 3h30
The rest is the same as 5ème and 4ème.
.
BUT. There are 10 extra hours in total during the year of “vie de classe” which are used for when your main teacher (prof principal) needs to talk to you, or to do class projects, or to vote to elect class representatives.
AND. 3 hours of the 26 (in 6ème), 4/26 in 5ème are used for “accompagnement personnalisé” which is basically your class goes in half-groups and has more attention given to each student than can be given in a full class. These can also be EPIs - enseignements pratiques interidisciplinaires - which are things that mix two subjects (or more) together to do a project. So if you did something that mixed French and Music, for example.
Students can also take an extra language from 6ème on, usually Latin/Greek or a regional language.
Additionally, students can have extra activities at school (clubs and sports things and stuff) which don’t count in the 26 hours.
*
Now! We are lucky here! Because I still have some of my timetables from when I was in 4ème and 3ème. 5ème is basically the same as 4ème, and in 6ème you just don’t have the second language.
Here they are:
4ème:
Tumblr media
3ème:
Tumblr media
Now, I’ll be the first to admit I was a dramatic little student who just wanted to take as many classes as possible.
Also, I was in the bilingual section and had more English than normal people because I was in an international school.
As you can see, in 4ème I had more than 26 hours. I had 33. This was because:
- I had an extra 2.5 hours of Mandarin (as the regional language because I lived in Asia)
- and 2 extra hours of English because I was in the bilingual section, and 2 extra hours of history-geography in English for the same reason
- Vie de Classe was counted in my timetable as a regular class (so 0.5 hours per week, or once every two weeks) because it was easier that way
All of which bring us to 33 hours.
.
In 3ème, for me: 33.5 hours.
Same things as before, but I only had 1.5 hours of HG in English, and an extra 30 minutes of accompagnement personnalisé . I’m still missing 0.5 hours in that but I’m too lazy to spot them.
*
All in all, this is pretty regular! It’s very common for French students to have Wednesday afternoons off, and I’ve yet to meet a school which doesn’t do that. We also have a lot of homework, in addition to all the classes. The system works fine for collège.
*
Now onto the Brevet! It’s a national exam.
(for the link skip to “Objectifs et socle commun”. And at the end there are some previous exams if you want to check them out)
It’s more or less equivalent to English GCSEs, I think?
Tumblr media
It’s the lowest level official national certificate you can have that counts as a certificate of education.
It’s out of 800 points, including 400 determined by specific exams. You need minimum 400 points total to pass.
It’s four written exams: one exam in French (100 pts), one in maths (100 pts), one in history-geography (50 pts), one in science (50 pts).
AND one oral exam (100 pts). Which is basically a glorified presentation.
For French:
- worth 100 pts
- lasts 3 hours
- 3 parts (well 2 officially):
   - 50 mins: Grammar + reading comprehension + questions on a text
   - 20 mins: dictée (spelling text based on a text read aloud)
   - 1h30: writing (either text analysis or creative writing based on a prompt)
(Officially: the first two parts are together and collectively are worth 60 pts and last 1h10. The last one is 40 pts.)
For maths:
- worth 100 pts
- lasts 2 hours
For HG:
- 50 pts
- 2 hours
For science:
- 50 pts
- 1 hour
- 2 out of 3 sciences: remember how there are 3 science subjects? You get 2 out 3, randomly picked by the ministry for all of France. This also unofficially means 2 parts of the exam, so you get 30 minutes for science 1 and 30 mins for science 2. But you can do 25/35 or 50/10 no one cares.

Blue Lock AU Thought Dump
Hi, I'm Comet and I have this massive AU that's taking up way too much space in my mind. So I'm just gonna dump it all here. This is basically a self-insert in second person pov lmao (if you recognise me no you don't)
I'm not a writer so it's just going to be random plot bits. Had to guess parts of the timeline to make it work...
Parings: possibly Sae x reader??? Idk lol, Ness is pretty cute
Timeline:
Age 2:
Your family moves into the Itoshi's neighbourhood
Your mom becomes besties with Mrs Itoshi
You befriend Sae (3) and Rin (1)
You enter kindergarten a year early (with Sae)
Age 5-10:
You attend primary school and develop an interest in data analysis while observing the Itoshi brothers' football practice (think Momoi from KnB)
Age 11:
You enter middle school with Sae
Sae (12) gets scouted and goes to Spain
You go abroad to study and get into coding (and eventually machine-learning + AI)
You remain close with Rin (10) but drift apart from Sae
Age 15:
Sae (16) briefly returns to Japan at the same time as you
The fated fight occurs and you take Rin's (14) side
While you understand Sae's pov, you do not agree with his approach and additionally blow up at Sae for being distant and not communicating
Communication with Sae completely stops
Age 16/17 – Present:
You graduate and return to Japan after deciding to take a gap year
You land a job as a lab assistant at a university research lab which somehow leads to you becoming a part-time manager/data analyst at Blue Lock
Notes:
Rin views you as a big sibling and calls you (name)-nii/nee (gender neutral honorific where?).
You are super observant and have an innate talent for spotting trends.
Where you study doesn't really matter but I did it with the UK (England specifically) in mind. Cuz I studied there and they have an extra year of secondary school compared to Japan. Also, the UK does year group cut-offs at September while Japan goes by birth year (I think...) so international students usually round down even if they can technically enter the year above. But you're smart so they put you in the year above.
Also, British slang is fucking hilarious and I want silly Manshine antics.
Unlike the US, it is really hard to skip grades in most other countries since the curriculums are so rigid but with this I can make Reader graduate early without making it too contrived lmao.
Also, independent schools (private schools but that means something else in the UK) tend to force you to learn all modern foreign language in lower years before you decide on your GCSE language. So I can have Reader have rudimentary understanding of French, Spanish and German. Full coverage baby!
The specific language you pick doesn't really matter but it's NOT Spanish (cuz Sae)
It's actually pretty much impossible to get a placement at a research lab right out of highschool cus demand is insane (I would know 😭😭) but let's pretend you have a super banging resume cuz you're smart as fuck idk
Still undecided on exactly when you join BL tho cuz I need Sae to be taken by surprise about you being there but I also want Reader to bond with the boys before NEL. Especially Shidou. So after third selection but a few days before Sae takes Shidou? Coincidentally, you are off-site for whatever reason.
Also, I want Reader to drag Rin out for the outing during the post U-20 break.
Hmm introducing Reader right after the win would also be interesting. Especially with Rin being in peak-angst mode. I want himself to do another behavioural 180° (more like 120°). Sae wouldn't be there cuz he'd be in the U-20 changing rooms. The outing thing could still happen if you exchange numbers with Bachira.
Actually, I like this idea more so I'm going with that. The Shidou bonding could wait.
Job description:
The next bits are completely pseudo-science and I'm bs-ing 💀💀
Anyway, the lab develops simulations of athletes as a training aid. They're collaborating with Blue Lock cuz where else can you find such a large sample size of athletes at a similar stage of development who also conveniently wear fancy biosignal-recording suits 90% of the time? Literally no where.
The only issue is that all the data is stored in servers located in the compound and, for data-protection reasons, need to be completely anonymised. For plot reasons, someone needs to be on-site most of the time to sort out server shit.
The data stuff is real in the UK and EU btw. That's why there's such a big fuss about certain US corps selling personal info. Not sure about Japan in particular tho but most BL participants are also underage so...
This is actually the reason they hired you lol. Especially since you're already familiar with the sport.
So you now have the job of making sure the data is being anonymised and transferred properly while the lab sends you occasional projects to work on. Which isn't too bad but Ego decided to make you a part-time manager to assist Anri (who's super busy with BLTV's explosive popularity) after witnessing your analytical skills.
At least it's amazing for your resume and you're paid EXTREMELY well...

Stammering Awareness Day Post
youtube
I missed Stammering Awareness Day this year because I was at a Sales Conference for work so here's my belated post.
"Therapy. It's not right for everyone"
I made a very similar decision to Paul Gaskin when I turned 18 and moved away to university. I was in a different city, far away from my parents, with nobody I knew. Away from every comfortable thing possible to hide behind. So I thought fuck it. I will not do this anymore.
Speech therapy is often not a choice for children like me.
I have stammered since the day I started talking, late, at age three. And even then my first word was 'no'. A testament perhaps to the personality that was hidden for years and years beneath the appearance of someone who was 'shy' or 'withdrawn'.
I did not speak between the ages of 3 and 14 in school. And if I did, they were one word answers. I am surrounded by memories of school reports my mum's kept with the teacher's feedback, 'she's quiet in the classroom, she should put her hand up more' or 'she'd be a clever girl if she wasn't so quiet'.
In those formative years, I had few, if any friends. And at the age I am now I realise just how damaging that is to someone. In uni, I didn't go to fresher's week, I rarely came out my room and I found myself emotionally and socially exhausted just because I walked through the kitchen to wash my pots and one of my flatmates was there trying to chat.
What has speech therapy ever done for me, if it hasn't helped me socialise and become the kind of person who just speaks without thought?
Speech therapy, in my case, was not to try and make my life better. It was to try and hammer the stammer out of me by any means necessary. I even kept the folder, which I found recently.
Tumblr media
I missed out on classes and break times in Primary School, because I had Speech Therapy, organised by my school. And I remember feeling confused, when at the age of 8, one such speech therapist decided that my stammer was so bad, she sent me back to class, with an A4 sheet of paper. 'A-Z, Sign Language'.
I've never seen my mum so livid.
The ones who came after weren't as bad. But they never felt less patronising. They would put cards in front of me and say 'this is how you say this word correctly'. I know how to say the word, and correctly as well. Just not in the manner they wanted. Not in the way that proved to my parents, that all this therapy, all this money, was working.
Every day, I'd still come home with a stammer.
At age 13, I was gifted a device, called a VoiceAmp. A company now who doesn't operate. It was a small MP3-like device that fed my voice back into one ear, half a second later, at a higher pitch. And it worked mostly.
The teacher's knew about it. Let me use it. And I thought that maybe, maybe, it would be alright. I loathed having to carry it around with me everywhere, but it was something.
Until one day, class hadn't even begun yet, when a teacher berated me in the hallway for 'listening to music'.
And whatever confidence was built. Was shattered.
Around the same age, I found my passion, languages. I did German before, yes, but this was Japanese. This was different. Difficult. 3 alphabets, thousands of characters, fast-paced speaking?
I don't know why I really kept on at it.
It is the only GCSE I ever got an A* in.
It is the only time, I ever really truly felt supported by a teacher, and she didn't even teach at my school. She paid for my GCSE, out of her own pocket, because she saw how much I loved it.
Of course. My parents saw this and thought 'oh all that speech therapy worked, she loves languages'. When that's not entirely true.
I struggled, mentally I now know, throughout the entirety of my school life, extending into Sixth Form. Wondering, 'where am I going to fit in the real world? Who in their right mind is going to hire someone who, yes, speaks, reads, writes Japanese, but can't even say their own name without tripping over the syllables?'.
Having completed my first year at uni, something loomed in second year. My Year Abroad to Japan.
I was fucking terrified.
But I'm alive, I made it! But that, I believe was the turning point. That I was forced into situations that were uncomfortable, forced into speaking a different language to people who realistically had never seen anyone who wasn't Japanese before. And fuck yes it was awkward sometimes but when I came back to the UK, I felt totally different.
I felt that I could do this, without having my parent's hanging over me, waiting to detect the tiniest block, the smallest of repetitions, just so they could be all smug and say 'well that speech therapy was useless, you're not even using it'.
I felt like I could be a person, make my own decisions and do what I want. And with that freedom, it became less and less about my stammer and more about me.
That is why this TedTalk by Paul Gaskin, resonates with me.
I've had speech therapy, breathing exercises, coping mechanisms. I've had devices, sign language, even a band tied around my chest to control my breathing (which bloody hurt btw cos I had tits coming in).
Nothing works better, than just, letting go.
I am not cured. I never will be. I still stammer. And it's worse on some days, some weeks, more than others.
But that is not my problem.
It is the way I speak.
Stammering cannot be hammered out of a child, an adult. My parents could have flung all the speech therapy at me and it would not have changed a thing. But why does it need to be hammered out? Sure it might hurt my parents to watch me struggle, but how do they thing I feel?
Years in silence, tripping over words, verbally and physically abused, out of breath, facial ticks. It hurts me more than it hurts them.
I don't know if my stammer is neurological but does it matter? It's here now, and it's not going anywhere, contrary to popular belief. I'm still allowed to be frustrated, saddened and put down sometimes by it, because it's something that's been with me from day one.
That doesn't mean I've taken a step back.
My pictures above, refer to a moment, a pivotal one, where I was first aware I was different. It was a new school, and we were all introducing ourselves. And when I stammered, everyone laughed at me. And too anxious to cry outwardly, I stuffed my head into my jumper and cried as quietly as I could, until the class was over.
They're important pictures to keep, I think. To remind me of the little girl I was. I like to think I've made her proud.
But I'm proud of her.
Not only because of all she went through.
But because, when asked by the speech therapist how we could realistically ease the bullying (something she probably shouldn't have been asking me anyway 🙄), she responded with this.
Tumblr media
Sorry for the long post. I need to get this off my chest every few years (and it's my blog I do what I like, jokes on you for reading this far lol).
Next year I hope to attend my first Stamma Fest. If this topic is something you've never thought about or something that interests you, I highly suggest you check out the Stamma website.
Thank you for coming to my (not) TedTalk.
