i always feel like im making the wrong decision. im too far in to back out now, but i feel like i dont have the capacity to succeed. like, my brain is so scattered all the time and i feel like im not smart enough to be able to actually get through college. my full associates didn’t transfer to the 4 year im going to and i might have to do extra courses. and like its not a big deal. but i feel like this is a sign that im doing something wrong, that i should’ve picked different. ive done two years already but if was at community college, so this is already going to be more difficult since its at a university. and i was commuting. i still was at home. i won’t be home, ill be somewhere new. and it doesn’t matter that much, but i don’t think ill be able to do it. i just don’t feel like im that smart, and this is a stem program. i just. not feeling great

not people leaving my d&d campaign because “i get hungry af” (when it’s at 1 and they have plenty of time to eat, and obviously i’m not going to order food because i’m fasting)

and because “the party keeps splitting up so one group has a lot of inactive time” (which isn’t my decision! the players keep deciding to split up and i can’t run both sides at once)

and because “every npc hates me” because you keep either threatening them/their families or rolling low on charisma checks. how is that my fault.

we started off with a bigger party and i expected some people to leave but. pretty much everyone is leaving and it’s just gonna end soon i can feel it.

i feel like i’m a terrible dm, and none of my friends like me or like being around me, and i’m only tolerable in small amounts, and everyone’s going to leave me and i’m going to be alone forever, and everything is pointless and nobody cares about me or actually enjoys things when i’m involved.

one of the people leaving is joining another party too, so they do like d&d, they just don’t like my campaign. it’s not fair, why does nobody actually like me. snd part of this is probably just because i’m already stressed and entering a depressive episode but still.

this is so pathetic i cant believe d&d is making me spiral.

You clock the danger long before your boyfriend does, but you suppose it’s a lot more drilled into one of you than the other. 

The man gets on a few stops after you do, and his gaze seems aimless until it lands on you. It’s not a busy time; the bus is nearly empty, but of course he goes and stands next to you as if there are no open seats. You should have known better than to sit by the aisle. 

James’ chatter fades into the background as your mind starts to whirl with possibilities. What if this man grabs you? What if he tries to keep you from getting off at your stop? What if he waits until you get off, and then follows you home? 

“Hey.” James is looking at you quizzically. He reaches for your opposite arm, scrubbing up and down lightly. “You okay?” 

You use the touch as an excuse to lean into his side, murmuring so the man can’t hear you. “If that guy’s still here when it’s my stop, will you get off with me? Or I could ride to yours, if that’s better.” 

James looks past you, noticing the man for the first time, and you see clarity dawn on his expression as he does the same math you had. You can feel the man’s stare burning into the side of your head; he’s not even being subtle about it. James pulls you closer to his side. 

“Hey, mate,” he says, tension underlying his jovial tone. “Do you wanna take a seat? There are plenty open.” 

You chance a look over, and the man’s eyes lock with yours like it’s the opportunity he’s been waiting for. You feel James’ arm tense. 

“You have pretty hair,” the man says. 

You smile tersely. Polite, carefully unfriendly. “Thanks.” 

That seems to satisfy him; the man does take a seat. The one directly behind you. Anxiety prickles over your skin at not being able to see him. 

You at least feel better now that James is aware, too. He keeps his face turned to you, one eye on the seat behind you, as he picks up your conversation about the film you’ve just seen. Remus and Sirius were the ones who wanted to see it in the cinema; they thought it was artistic and meaningful, whereas you and James are in agreement it was dull and pretentious. Odd, aimless dialogue, experimental camera angles, hardly any plot. James thinks if you can get Sirius away from Remus he’ll agree. Competitive thing that he is, he’s hatching a plan to do so when the man leans forward and pushes his nose into your hair. 

The sound of his inhale sends goosebumps racing down every inch of your skin. You go rigid, attempting subtly to lean forward while all the nerves in your body scream at you to run. 

“Hey, what the fuck?” James doesn’t take care to lower his voice. 

As though you’d been waiting for permission, you jump away, getting as far out of reach as possible before turning around. James’ arm has barred across the back of your seat, his hand gripping the pole on the opposite side and the muscles in his forearm strained with tension. 

“What makes you think you can do that to someone?” he asks, equal parts incredulous and irate. 

People in the bus have turned to look. The bus slows as you approach the next stop. 

“Let’s get off,” you tell James. 

“What?” He turns to you for a second before seeming to remember he should be keeping an eye on the man. Who has been silent, but for what he said to you. He looks entertained by James’ outburst, which almost scares you worse than anything that’s happened thus far. You know James is very fit, but you don’t want to get him in a fight. “Why should we get off? We haven’t done anything wrong!” 

The doors open, and people start to file off. “James,” you say, grabbing a fistful of his shirt and giving a slight tug. “Please.” 

He hesitates a second longer, looking somewhere between bewildered and outraged, before he says, “Fine, okay,” and grabs your bag. You tug him into the aisle, careful to keep both of you out of reach of the man. Once you’re off the bus, you start walking quickly, pulling James along and casting glances over your shoulder to be sure the man from the bus doesn’t follow. It’s only when the bus pulls away and he hasn’t gotten off that you stop. 

“Ugh.” You heave a tremendous sigh, hugging James around the middle and dropping your forehead to his chest. “Sorry.” 

“That was fucking insane,” he says, cupping the back of your head protectively. “Does that happen to you often?” 

You let out a little laugh. “That specifically? No. But I know better than to talk to guys like that.” 

“Sorry.” James kisses your hairline. Lets his lips rest there. “I thought it was going to help.” 

“It’s not your fault, he was going to be weird either way. I’m really glad you were there.” 

He squeezes you tighter. It helps you release the tension from your shoulders, giving in to him. “That was fucking disgusting,” he says. “I’m sorry I’m ever not there.” 

You shudder. “Is it weird that I feel like I need to shower?” 

“Nope. But do it at mine. I’m not going to be able to stop thinking about that guy finding your place for the next several days.” 

“How would he do that, James?” 

“Dunno. But just to be safe.”

Leo looked at his phone for a good second and then left it on his bed, unattended. he ran to your residence hall— it didn’t matter to him that it was quite literally on the other side of campus. he needed to hear you say the words he had been waiting to hear since he was fifteen. he’d always had a slight crush on you, mostly off and on.

But during the summer, he had fallen for you even harder than he thought he could. he never thought that he could love someone as much as he loved you. anyway, he was practically dying as he ran to your dorm! his hair was disheveled, and he was panting a bit. he wasn’t sure if he was sweaty because he was nervous, or because he had just ran to get to your dorm.

He knocked on your door three times.

You jumped out of your bed. you felt like throwing up from how nervous you were. you quickly slid on your slippers, and looked in the mirror before you opened the door for him. (making the poor boy wait). you adjusted your hair, making sure it sat right.

You took a deep breath before opening the door. you almost didn’t, but a voice in your head was telling you that you’d be an idiot if you didn’t open the door. your hands gripped the doorknob, and then unlocked it. leo was practically dying because you were taking years to open the stupid door. you finally opened it, getting met by a disheveled-sweaty-flushed leo valdez.

“Hi.” he croaked out, his voice cracking slightly. he felt like he was on fire, literally. he wanted this to be over with! well, no, that’s a lie. he just wanted to be your boyfriend already.

“…Hi.” you answered, your voice was quiet. you had an awkward smile on your face. you were praying that you would just drown at this moment. you’d much rather enjoy that than this.

He cleared his throat, and finally spoke after a long minute of awkward silence. The two looked at each other “I really… really like you. I.. Uh.. You obviously know that already, but I wanna tell you in person?” he said, nodding along with his own words. his hands went to fumble with the hem of his shirt, anxiously waiting for your response.

“I really like you, too.” You replied. you didn’t feel as nervous as anymore when he started to talk. you felt your face getting hotter, and your smile getting bigger. he grinned at you like an idiot.

He thought that he was dreaming when you said you liked him. The start of something. “Really?” He asked, just wanting to hear you say it again. He couldn’t help but grin like an idiot. He thought never in a million years that you’d ever like him! You were totally out of his league. you were so awesome, so pretty, and so sweet.

You nodded again, rolling your eyes. “Yes, really.”

How would a place where bringing back the dead seems so simple affect the boys stance on killing people?

okay so, in this au, due to differences in how the races age, even tho ed and al were still young when she died, trisha would've been fairly old for a halffoot. can't remember the exact age she had her kids in canon, but she was like. super young. even if we carry that over to fullmeal trisha and make her 14-15 at the time, bc children of two diff races grow slower, she would've been like. half foot middle aged at the time she died (not giving exact ages for all the elrics cause i don't wanna do math rn)

mostly, the brothers are in the dungeon the same way marcille is: to learn how to expand the life expectancy of the shorter lived races. cause even if they did bring their mom back, she would only have a decade or two left of natural life. bringing trisha back is sort of an unconscious wish (that the demon in this au def plays on :) )

i'm really on the fence abt turning al into a chimera in this au, cause at what point does it stop being an au where these characters are in a new world and starts being fullmetal alchemist but underground. if i do decide to do it, al's gettin chimera'd

“ I don’t know I think it’s just a class mix up “

y/n feels hot in the face. Lying especially about this well it’s stupid but she was a late bloomer for her ears and tail and it seemed embarrassing to randomly show up with them so she just hid it.

“ that’s weird but it makes sense Laurence got put in classes he didn’t even sign up for too. Can you imagine doing advanced math? Poor sucker” he laughs.

“Garroth I’m in advanced math too,” Y/n states blankly.

“ Oh, that sucks,” he says making a teeth-gritting face and then turning to the school they just arrived at. Letting go of each other's hands because he gets to go in early.

confused and guilty y/n take out her phone to call Garroth but he doesn't answer. ( his phone is probably on dnd ) so y/n has to go find him the old-fashioned way.

After searching the school for him y/n couldn't find him before the bell rang for class. Thankfully y/n had second period with him so hopefully Ivy didn't get to him first. After an agonizing hour of trying to figure out what to say to him and how. She’s got “Hey I'm a werewolf hope that's cool!” Y/n slightly banged her head on the desk for the last few minutes of class until the bell rang. Once she was out of the class she darted to the second period, garroth is usually early for classes so he would be there. But once she got there he was already in the class talking to lvy and she was showing him her phone I'm guessing the video. She watches for a second as his facial expression is very tight and annoyed. Y/n take a deep breath and walks into the class.

“ you can think how you wanna think but I had my reasons.” y/n acknowledged that it was too late and all she could say was that. He didn't turn around to her instead he kept his back to her.

“ why you would think it is okay to tell someone elses secrets like this. Its obvious this was a private conversation. “ he lectured ivy instead of y/n Both girls are super confused, he was supposed to be mad at y/n.

“ I was just looking out for a friend and -” ivy trys to explain but garroth cuts her off.

“ no you weren't you were just being selfish like you always are. Laurence told me what you said. You only showed me this because you think its going to get me to date you but ivy I will never ever been with someone like you. Your a bully and you like inflicting pain on others for your entertainment. Do you really think I like that???” He tells her off in the way

y/n was wanting him to do ever since they started dating. Ivy starts crying and runs out of the room.

“ that was kinda rough”y/n says to break that silence. But just because garroth told ivy off doesn’t mean he wasn’t upset with y/n to.

“ and you how could you lie to me especially all this time and the conversation we had this morning we literally just talked about it. You agreed with me when I said you weren’t a werewolf!” His voice changed from how he talked to ivy to more sad and looking for answers.

“ I’m sorry! I just didn’t know how to say it “ she replied.

“ oh they why didn’t you just say oh yeah I’m a werewolf. that’s a thing, yeah!” He mimicked her voice and for a moment she wanted to laugh because his impression was odd and silly sounded but she knew if she laughed he would get ten times more upset. Y/n take a deep breath and get closer to him.

“ listen I’m so sorry garroth I know I shouldn’t have lied for so long and there is no excuse as to why I did but in my mind I had reasons that made sense and what makes sense in my mind is law for me just like how your Brain works.” She explains softly in a way she hopes garroth could understand. He sighs.

“ what are the reasons?” He asks in a complete different tone from a minute ago.

“ well firstly it was embarrassing. I just got this new weird looking upgrades on my body and my ears weren’t as developed as they would have been if I wasn’t a late bloomer. But I think the biggest reason that I didn’t wanna acknowledge was that I was scared.” She whispered.

“ scared?”he asked.

“ I am scared people will treat me differently because of it. I mean do you even realize that some of your friends treat the wolfs like dogs? Aphmau throws balls and tells her friends to go get it? And I don’t understand why they play along with it. It’s offensive. I get it we like some things a dog would but we also like things humans would and that doesn’t seem to matter just as long as we like balls or frisbees” she shrugs her shoulders to finish her sentence.

“ wow y/n I never noticed that. I am so sorry and I am sorry if I’ve ever said anything offensive to the werewolf’s or made you feel like I’d treat you different because of it. I would never” she grabs her face to caress her cheek. She leans into his hand.

maca this chapter was insane i was kicking my feet the entire hour I took to read it!!

but can I just say as much as I was team damen in the beginning cause I didn’t fw laurent’s whole approach to the breakup…..I don’t get why damen was so upset with laurent abt the needing a lawyer reveal when he immediately recognised that it was obvious that laurent continued to stay with him because he genuinely loved him.

Don’t get me wrong I definitely love that you took that approach cause your writing is so REAL and Damen recognises he’s being an idiot sometimes!!But I didn’t expect Laurent to not push back abit in some sense like he was just a traumatised kid barely a year older than nicaise is rn when they met (if i got the math right on that).

hello! i was actually talking to @savoytrufflephd about this the other day. this is terribly long but we're reaching the end of the fic and i will never get the change to speak on these things again, and so i hope this answer guides your reading experience and helps clear any doubts you might have going into the last chapter.

about damen:

during their argument, damen is gutted to find out that laurent approached him because he needed a lawyer and money, and, indeed, damen doesn't have an absolute "let's berate laurent" meltdown right then and there, but i wouldn't say he "immediately recognized" anything.

there are three main emotions at play during the reveal scene.

sadness: damen feels deeply hurt by laurent's confession.

There is nowhere to go. There is no other sound in the world but Laurent’s voice, tearing him open.

They should be doing this in the kitchen, Damen thinks. For old times’ sake. For symmetry. There must be a reason why Aimeric keeps picking kitchens as his bleeding spot.

anger and/or self-righteousness: damen makes comments to hurt laurent and express the hurt he's feeling himself and how he feels cheated and wronged.

(...) Was a live-in nanny so expensive that you had to spend the next four years forcing yourself into bed with—”

“You were nervous. Before. I remember the—was the bathroom break so you could vomit in between—”

(...) So you stayed up all night, going through that—that shit, and you had ten liters of coffee this morning so you could be brave enough to sit here and tell me that I was your pimp for a while. (...)

“I wouldn’t blame you,” Laurent says, “if you—” “Don’t play the martyr card.” “I’m so—” “Fuck you,” Damen says.

defeat: damen slowly realizing this is the worst case scenario. there can't be anything worse than this, and so it's almost a relief to hear it because he 1. didn't have to ask 2. can't imagine any other blow hitting him harder (which... i mean, he did have a heads up from nikandros). now what he wants is to understand how this happened and why.

Something is leaking out of Damen now, except it isn’t blood. He feels it by its absence, by the relief it leaves behind. This, he thinks, as he looks at Laurent. This is everything they have done to each other. There is nothing left but this: the wound, drained; the wound, re-dressed. This is what he wanted to know, what he asked for. This.

He might as well lay down on the table and pass Laurent the knife.

He wants to feel stupid and can’t, wants to lather himself up in hatred to slip away from this with ease. He can’t. He’d thought in those first months at Nikandros’s that he knew what hating Laurent was—annoyance, mostly, and contempt, slightly—but now he knows that wasn’t hate. He could never hate Laurent. Maybe he could learn, could train himself to do it, but he doesn’t want to. He wants to understand. He wants—

damen is not the best when it comes to understanding his own emotions. later on, when analyzing this argument with neo, this happens:

“I don’t know how it made me feel,” Damen says. “I was angry yesterday. At him. And I know I should be angry now, or earlier when he said—when he told me.” “But you weren’t.” “I wasn’t sad either. It was like…” “Like?” Damen smooths over the sheets beside him. The bed is cool and neatly made on that side. “Like I’d been waiting for him to say it for so long, that when he did, it wasn’t… I don’t know.”

he did feel all those emotions in the argument, but when asked to talk about them, he holds onto defeat instead of anger or sadness. i wrote him this way because i wanted a version of him that was tired of arguing with laurent, that didn't want to do that anymore, that wanted things to be fair between them. plus, i wrote very early on that he's just not very creative when it comes to (active) cruelty. it just doesn't come naturally to him.

now, about laurent:

i agree that this laurent reads very passively. he doesn't strike back, doesn't argue that he was desperate, that it wasn't his fault, etc. this is because:

he's being self-hating. this is him basically telling damen "look at what i did and hate me for it. i don't deserve the way you've always helped me, the way you're STILL helping me. i'm not a good person. i'm not who you think i am." this is why, in this fic, laurent also allows nicaise to treat him like shit. it's the reason laurent did not tell agnes about the verbal abuse he was being subjected to. he thinks he deserves it. it's the reason he tells damen having sex with maxime was a chore and still he kept doing it.

like damen, he's also tired of arguing. in fact, i would say he's MORE tired than damen. he's getting the worse of nicaise's ire and has been for months. he knows damen is upset with him bc of that 10 minute conversation he had alone with nicaise in ch18. the day before, damen looked him in the eye and told him it was all his fault, that everything wrong that happened with nicaise was on him, that he was to blame because he was too busy having fun and being stupid to take care of the one person he was supposed to look after. he's emotionally drained. he spent the entire night looking through nicaise's phone, analyzing dates and punishing himself for everything that happened. after almost 400k words of fucked up situations, he's finally reached this strange limit of "whatever, just let it end".

the self-fulfilling prophecy aspect of his relationship with damen. in a way, laurent never dared to hope what he had with damen would be forever. in fact, he believed in order to keep damen, he had to sacrifice many, many, many things and aspect of who he was and is as a person, because otherwise damen would not and could not love him. things like his mental health, his own abuse, his views on sex... but also small, stupidly vulnerable things, such as letting your partner know that you fucking douche!!!!!! letting him know you do things every other human does. laurent wanted damen to love him, but he didn't think damen ever could if he showed him all his cards and baggage and whatever you want to call it, and so he made himself palatable. and this was, ultimately, the downfall of their relationship (along with damen's obvious ignorance, emotional issues, repression, etc.)

this is all i can say on laurent's end. ch20 will give you some more details to help you look at his actions and thought process throughout the fic in a different light. i hope this answer made sense and wasn't just me babbling for seventeen thousand words.
