I lied about only making one ship post :/
Thank you @im-totally-not-an-alien-2 your prompts fueled this one. Specifically this one.
Dead serious soulmate au but in separate universes.
In the DP universe soulmates are widespread with pretty much everyone having one. In the past soulmates were only seen as purely romantic and it was abhorrent if you didn't have one, rejected/cut off your soulmate or they died before you.
Soulmates still heavily impact DP universes present society but not in the same ways as before. Current day Soulmates can be platonic or romantic and while it wasn't as demonized as it was in the past cutting off a soulmate is still an incredibly taboo. There are different types of soulmates (ie the red string, skin writing, telepathy, shared sensation,..)
Danny shares pain with his soulmate. While he can't exactly communicate directly with his soulmate he has the ability to heal them a little through the bond. Danny's soulmate was always getting hurt somehow or another to the point he had an unnaturally high pain tolerance by the time he turned 14.
His soulmate hasn't ever healed him back and sometimes Danny forgot he existed at all. As a half ghost it was so much easier to heal his soulmate; with just a surge of energy he could completely heal any injuries his soulmate acquired and go back to whatever it was he was doing before his soulmate got hurt.
Danny was fine with forgetting his soulmate existed. Whoever was on the other end clearly didn't want anything to do with him considering they couldn't even pitch in to heal a papercut. He would still heal his soulmate when he needed it but he just gave up hoping for any kind of relationship with him.
On the DC side of things Soulmates are extremely rare and little to nothing is know about them. Damian of course is one of the very few people who had a soulmate; the small blue soulmark on his chest was proof of that. Damian's soulmark was ignored treated like it didn't exist at all until the day it started healing him.
Then his soulmate was his everything. His soulmate was someone he needed to protect with every fiber of his being and someone he desperately needed to find. Damian kept these beliefs even after he left the league and especially when his soulmates healing powers got stronger.
After years of searching the last place he expected to meet his soulmate was some dingy alleyway...
He could finally start courting him.

if you'll forgive the rare mention of shipping from me. okay. so my brain LOVES generating weird, slightly fucked-up aus. and so. okay. sometimes i think about the joke that jimmy is the oblivious protagonist to a harem anime or a dating game in most of his smps. which is obviously a fandom joke more than anything else but like, he DOES have a bunch of these ships. and then i ALSO think about the sometimes-valid, sometimes-invalid way people complain about shipping warping his and other people's characters. (for the record that's just how fandom works shipping or not shipping i take a neutral stance on this, it's just important for the au idea.)
so my brain came up with: the jimmy dating sim au. in which jimmy suddenly wakes up and his life is a dating sim. and at first he's... very very jimmy about it. he preens. he LOVES the fact the world suddenly seems to revolve around him. it's GREAT. he can see dialogue options and he still somehow sounds like an idiot when he talks to people but that's fine because he still chooses the BEST OPTIONS. he's doing GREAT. this is the BEST THING THAT'S EVER--
although. hm. it's... a little weird the world is revolving around him? grian and joel aren't being mean enough actually, which seems like a silly thing to complain about, but like, look, he likes it when people are mean. and tango is silly and sweet but he's--he's not normally that focused on jimmy. he's a project guy. and scott is--look, it's weird he's not flirting with anyone else, right? like, that's weird? and, and okay, he's... not sure how to name what's going on with fwhip but there's not enough animosity, and whatever martyn is doing is like, look, jimmy's used to being shot down more on this one, and--
and once jimmy starts seeing it he can't stop seeing it. the world's warped around him. he's the main character in a dating game. every time he picks an option that makes one of his friends (his friends!) like him more, it's like another little piece of their personality is chipped off of them. and as much as he loves being the center of attention, he misses being mocked. he misses people paying attention to other things. he misses the bits that are being sanded off. he doesn't want to be the one to break his friends. he misses the relationships they had, sharp edges and all, because goddammit, he likes that kind of relationship.
but he doesn't know how to stop it.
he doesn't know how long he can go down someone's route before the changes get irreversible.
and so jimmy sets out on a journey to figure out how to break the dating simulator he seems to have gotten stuck in and get his friends back to normal. before it's too late.
ANYWAY IF I HAD TIME AND/OR MORE EXPERIENCE WITH VISUAL NOVEL GAME ENGINES IMAGINE--

What led to this (orufrey comic, cw an uncomfortable/creepy scene)
#witch hat tag#orufrey#er.... i'm too tired to have anything to say..i worked several days on this.#wait.. didn't i say just recently here that i probably wouldn't ever depict 'what if alaira is qifrey's sort-of ex'. What's going on#i don't even remember deciding to draw this..it's all a blur..i'm not sure why i WOULD decide to draw delicate scenes in my head#that i wouldn't really want to share with anyone/discuss so why did i draw it...#some part of me really really wants to draw things that are more and more true to myself...#maybe because of my alienation with most romance/shipping/dynamics the rest of the world depicts.#orufrey really is perfectly suited to me - what i read in the text and what is in my head. well anyway#i am TIRED of drawing poses and angles and..maybe now i will actually take a break from drawing bc of the tediousness of Angles#btw it really is a 'stretch of time' . . . assuming witches graduate age 18-20#well orufrey are canonically 30-ish. they've only had agott around for presumably about TWO years (?) bc she took the test age 10#and it feels like oru moving in/unknown atelier acquisition/building (?) .. i guess that could be a year or so before agott at most#(she was the first disciple) so... ????????? What about the other 7 or so years ?!?!?!!?!?! Unemployed Brimhat Hatred era#that time is very nebulous. after qifrey went to the tower i feel like it's been implied he and oru drifted apart a little.#certainly they didn't live together at first... no way. that doesn't feel like how it is based on things oru has said about becoming Eye#idk. I'm tired now. i don't usually think of alaira as necessarily qifrey's ex and this being how things went in that 'sliver of time'.#i usually prefer the idea that they have their first kiss with each other in their 30s cause That's Just The Orufrey Lifestyle#just felt like making a more relatable alternative view of my own Cai Orufrey Canon one time. btw im a big monoshipper and it hurt a bit#let's leave it there. this is surely the most i've worked on a 'single' art - though now i realise just how much longer the fic took :')

I think one of the reasons that I've always been deeply annoyed by the conception of Darcy as a brooding, humorless love interest (and inferior because of it) is because I actually really enjoy his sense of humor.
Maybe it's because I don't have much of a sense of humor, myself (so I also find this annoying because of the assumption that not liking most humor is some kind of moral failing). But when I do find things amusing, they're often dry and understated asides that I find really funny. I love, for instance:
“I have been meditating on the very great pleasure which a pair of fine eyes in the face of a pretty woman can bestow.”
Miss Bingley immediately fixed her eyes on his face, and desired he would tell her what lady had the credit of inspiring such reflections. Mr Darcy replied, with great intrepidity,—
“Miss Elizabeth Bennet.”
+
“I am afraid, Mr Darcy,” observed Miss Bingley, in a half whisper, “that this adventure has rather affected your admiration of her fine eyes.”
“Not at all,” he replied: “they were brightened by the exercise.”
I think my other favorite Darcy-Caroline interchange is even simpler, but I do find it entertaining:
“Tell your sister I am delighted to hear of her improvement on the harp, and pray let her know that I am quite in raptures with her beautiful little design for a table, and I think it infinitely superior to Miss Grantley’s.”
“Will you give me leave to defer your raptures till I write again?”
I also always laugh at the book version of this scene:
“That is a failing, indeed!” cried Elizabeth. “Implacable resentment is a shade in a character. But you have chosen your fault well. I really cannot laugh at it. You are safe from me.”
“There is, I believe, in every disposition a tendency to some particular evil, a natural defect, which not even the best education can overcome.”
“And your defect is a propensity to hate everybody.”
“And yours,” he replied, with a smile, “is wilfully to misunderstand them.”
Here, I also enjoy the use of a quite serious contemporary philosophical point (and the fact that he references it in a conversation with a woman at all, tbh), but the sudden shift to banter is what makes the interchange to me.
None of these are like ... haha-funny jokes, but I wouldn't find those amusing, anyway, while these always make me giggle.

**link click spoilers for s1!**
lu guang never telling xiaoshi about seeing emma’s death on the news, because it wouldn’t do any good for xiaoshi, only make him feel terrible about himself and his ability.
lu guang choosing to bear the knowledge of xiaoshi’s consequences himself, because he only meant the best for emma, he didn’t know any better and most importantly lu guang could never bring himself to see xiaoshi shattered by the reality of what he’s done. so he hides it from him, all so that xiaoshi can live in ignorant bliss.
lu guang helping xiaoshi through his childhood trauma, firmly pushing him to work through the hard truth that he can’t change anything about his parents’ fate, but never being so harsh about it to the point of being unkind. he could never be unkind to xiaoshi.
this one line: “cheng xiaoshi, exit the picture if it’s too hard for you.”
lu guang silently kneeling to xiaoshi’s level and offering him a hug after that job, even after being punched in the face, because what xiaoshi needs the most right now is someone solid there to let him process everything that just happened.
lu guang telling qiao ling they need a break and making sure to say that he specifically wants one too, to shift the focus away from xiaoshi and protect him from even the possibility of feeling like a burden for needing some time off
lu guang asking qiao ling to stay at home with xiaoshi instead of coming to the police station while he was panicking about shanshan, “look at the state he’s in.” “now’s not the time to let your thoughts run wild,” lu guang doing his best to prevent xiaoshi from letting his own guilt consume himself.
lu guang refusing to accept the job that involved emma’s death because of the impact it would have on xiaoshi if he realized it was his actions that doomed her. him shoving the picture back into the envelope before xiaoshi could catch a glimpse.
lu guang panicking himself when he sees xiaoshi entering the image of emma alone, with no way of contacting him, that idiot, and him running straight home in an effort to do something, anything to bring him back despite knowing there isn’t actually anything he can do but wait for him to return.
lu guang stopping xiaoshi from impulsively accepting the job to go into shanshan’s photo, “are you sure you’d be able to handle it?” making sure xiaoshi really thinks through the fact that he’s gonna have to face the consequences of his actions, and he might not be mentally prepared to accept them.
and xiaoshi listens to him, he actually takes a step back and looks at it from a distance before making a decision, because that’s how much he’s grown to trust lu guang over years of him protecting xiaoshi ever so subtly like this.
xiaoshi is a person ruled by emotions, and lu guang knows this, which is why his highest priority has always been xiaoshi’s emotional state, and why xiaoshi physically needs him to regulate himself and survive.
i just. have a lot of feelings about these two
WHICH IS WHY I NEED AN EXPLANATION FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END OF S1?? i will FOREVER be grateful that i found this series after s2 was done releasing, i don’t think i would’ve survived otherwise HHHH
bonus: qiao ling not even questioning when lu guang asks for a break for both of them, and not hesitating to turn down an offer with a smile without missing a beat when a client comes in. i love her so much??

Questions 1 through 15 from the relationship asks for Yara and Ace, maybe? 💚
Aaaahhh tysm Dolly!! This genuinely made me feel so much better to type out!
1)How did they meet and what were their first impressions of each other?
They technically met on the Whitebeard Pirates— Yara had joined Whitebeard’s crew about two-and-a-half years or so before Ace did and had worked her way up from apprentice to full crewmember by the time that Ace and the Spade Pirates got into their initial clash with Whitebeard. Speaking of which… It’s so funny to look back on it but Yara HATED Ace at first because of his repeated attempts to kill Whitebeard, her captain/surrogate father. A lot of the Whitebeard Pirates weren’t bothered by Ace, knowing that he wasn’t nearly strong enough to hurt Whitebeard, but Yara was. She treated him as if he had the plague and wouldn’t go near him or talk to him. That started to change once Thatch roped her in to helping train Ace’s observation haki and she started to spend a little more time with him, at the same time that he was starting to come out of his initial angry, angsty phase following his initial defeat at Whitebeard’s hands and his battles with Whitebeard transformed from assassination attempts into genuine combat based on mutual respect. Ace on the other hand never had any ill will towards Yara at any point, even when he was shunning the rest of the Whitebeard Pirates’ attempts to reach him. He just thought she was super pretty and cool tbh… also she just gave off Sad Lonely Vibes that reminded him a lot of himself when he was younger, before he had Luffy to take care of.
2) What kind of dynamic do they have with each other?
They have the most black cat/golden retriever energy lmao Ace can be goofy and fun-loving and super affectionate, whereas Yara tends to be a lot more reserved (she’s basically Mihawk Jr, let’s be real lol) but she loves the attention he gives her and she does give him a lot of love in return, in her own way. Mostly through reassurances when he starts to struggle with his self-worth. (I don’t wanna give too much away about Ace’s past but so much of it is genuinely heartbreaking, my poor boy)
3) What do others think of them?
The other Whitebeard Pirates were relieved when they FINALLY figured it out and got together. Marco and Thatch were pretty relentless with the teasing. Whitebeard was happy that two of his “children” managed to find love in spite of everything that had gone wrong in their lives. Luffy adored Yara the moment she offered him a snack (package of dried meat) that she happened to have in her bag and immediately accepted her as his sister (in law)— though he would’ve done so anyways, meat or no meat, as long as Ace is happy.
4) Do they have the same love language as each other?
They don’t, but they know each others’ love languages really well, so it doesn’t ever become an issue. (I think I had it as: Ace— giving: gift-giving, receiving: words of affirmation; Yara— giving: acts of service, receiving: physical touch).
5) Is their joint future bright or bleak?
Well, I can’t say too much without dropping some MAJOR One Piece spoilers, but I like writing them with a bright future where they end up very happy together for the rest of their days.
6) How close are they physically?
Ace is very physically affectionate, which Yara really loves since she’s very touch-starved. He initiates the vast majority of it, but she absolutely soaks it up when he does. She loves playing with his hair and tracing the freckles on his cheeks (she has a major thing for Ace’s freckles. He’s just too adorable).
7) Do they have a desire to protect each other?
Oh, yeah. The New World (the second half of the Grand Line, where the Four Emperors live) is full of danger and they’re constantly getting into tough battles and having to watch the other’s back. Ace is probably more protective than Yara is because of his Big Brother Instincts, but he knows that stepping on Yara’s toes in battle would not bode well for him afterwards.
8) Do they prefer being alone, together, or with others?
Their favourite thing is being alone together! Ace is the life of the party so he’s always happy to be around whoever and Yara prefers being by herself most of the time, so they kind of meet in the middle there lol
9) Do they laugh at each other?
Good-naturedly, yes. Ace does silly things constantly. Yara tries not to laugh, but she can’t help it. He’s just such a goofball and a sweetheart. Even if she’s laughing at him rather than with him, he considers it a major win just to hear her laugh. He thinks it’s the sweetest sound in the world.
10) Who would win in a fight?
Physically? Ahhh I hate to say it, but Ace. He’s ridiculously strong, considering he’s got a Logia-type Devil Fruit and all three forms of haki, including the rare conqueror’s haki. There’s been quite a bit of debate amongst the fandom about just how strong Ace is, but considering he was once asked to join the Seven Warlords at the ripe age of 17 and fought on equal terms with one of them (Jinbe) for five days straight, the general consensus is that he’s pretty OP. Unfortunately for Yara, I’m not sure if she could match that if they ever were to fight seriously.
Verbally? Yara. Every single time. She’s petty and stubborn and won’t hold back from going for the jugular if need be. Ace can also be very stubborn, but when it comes to Yara being angry with him, he folds like a cheap deck of cards lmao
11) Who is a better liar?
Yara. She has a pretty good poker face and if anyone dares accuse her of lying, she turns on the Dracule Death Glare lol
12) Who is a better caregiver?
Yara, because she has a cooler head than Ace does. Whenever she’s hurt/sick, he’ll be zooming around low-key panicking and just wanting her to get better ASAP. If the situation is reversed, Yara is a lot better at calmly assessing just what he needs and delivering it to him efficiently.
13) Who is a better dancer?
Probably Yara, given that she has probably had to pay a lot more attention to stuff like timing and footwork due to her training as a swordswoman.
14) Who is a better cook?
Neither of them really cook but I think Yara would be more responsible in the kitchen. Ace would probably get impatient and try to heat something up with his Devil Fruit powers and end up incinerating it in the process.
15) Who has better fashion sense?
Yara. She’s a Dracule. It runs in the family.
ask game here!

hey kid want a tragic ship textblock about ganny and nabooboo here u go
thinking about the very shippy nabsgan scene in my head in which Gan's last night as a mortal man in Gerudo Valley started as a fucked up fight that ended in surprisingly authentic lovings and the one final kiss trope the morning after bc she doesn't know shit's about to go down but he does and it could go badly and he might not ever see her or this room or this place ever again so he slips up and lingers a bit too softly a bit too long and it confuses her a little but it's nice so she's like 'okay cool maybeeee we'll be chill when he gets back this time'
and they had this code they developed when they were younger bc their relationship was a (very poorly kept) secret for a long time so if she was up in his room when he headed out she'd stand in the window and watch him leave even if she was mad at him and he'd always looks back even if he was mad at her and over the years it bounces between a romo 'don't be long' thing and and a salty 'getting the last word' thing but it's always a 'see you soon' thing and it's the thing they do if they were together before he headed out even if they were only in the same room to have an argument it's always the thing they do it's the thing they've always done and so she stands at the window and they fight all the time now so she's extra confused by how well things ended last night and how well they went this morning and how weird it is and she waits for her little signal from him that he'll be home soon whether its a threat or a promise but he starts to look back and then stops -- and chooses not to -- and heads out without looking at her
and it dawns on her that he hasn't made eye contact with her at all this whole morning and the very sudden realization that it's a goodbye hits her square in the chest and she just has to stand there and not know what that means she just knows that's what's been said with no further context and no way to ask because he's disappeared behind the canyon wall he's already gone and the next thing she knows Hyrule is burning and no one's heard from Ganondorf and she has to carry this dread around in her chest like everything is normal because she's the second in command and she's in charge in his absence and everyone else is obviously worried but she's the only one that saw him as close as he gets to being vulnerable right before he left
and she feels like she should've gone after him she should've stopped him she should've chased him down the hall and jumped on his back and been so annoying and clingy and obnoxious and not let him leave and not let him go because she knows now what she saw was him standing with his foot over the ledge making peace with the jump and she knows now he might've been just unprepared enough for her to knock him off balance and pull him back and keep him home and if she'd refused to let go of his hand it might've been enough to stay it from whatever he was planning to do and it might've been enough to crack that facade he's built around himself and let her see him again for the first time in what feels like years but she didn't she just stood at the window and watched him go and the next time she'll see him he'll be Changed, Forever
and she thinks about that day a lot when she's sitting in the sage chamber knowing that the thing he chose to become the thing she feels responsible for letting him become is just down the ethereal hall chained up like a rabid dog in the shadow realm snarling and jeering and calling her a traitor and not knowing she feels like one for reasons he'll never even think about

sometimes I wish you could post an opinion on a fandom blog without inviting a whole witch hunt or being accused of causing drama but alas
#I've not done anything and i won't do anything#it's just something that's annoying?? that you can't say anything without someone doing a bad faith interpretation of it#or projecting it on themselves or getting offended on behalf of a fictional character#the few times i saw someone actually say something slightly controversial all hell broke loose every time#like great that you're passionate but not everything is about you#not everything needs your opinion - especially if you can only give it like a lecture#not everything has malicious intentions#people disagreeing with you have a right to their opinions as well - as long as you respect theirs they should respect yours#the thing is - i don't think I've ever been in a fandom that didn't have to deal with like ship wars or someone doing hate campaigns#of a character or ship - i guess that's just the way it is??#but here it feels especially tiring because people don't usually disagree on ships#people are literally fighting and hating each other mainly over the same two characters!!! and their different interpretations of them#people disagree over what the right and moral way is to portray and ship those characters#and it creates so much tension because you can't associate with those people because they're doing it wrong#and are acting fucking awful about it#but those people are very exclusionary and if you don't agree with all of their points they don't want to talk to you either#you just float along hoping that you'll find some people who have a similar interpretation and will actually talk to you#it's so weird??? it's so isolating too??#and it feels like you entered a political landscape in your online fandom space#i will probably delete this and I'm not even sure my thoughts make sense#my thoughts spiralled a bit from thinking how some fan interpretations annoy me into disliking a character hahaha

A semi-random thought that occurred to me today and a good example of why I will never go out of my way/seek out the arguments of love square stans:
Let’s talk about That Scene in “Truth” real quick with the Adrien pictures, and I mean seriously talk about it from both a writing perspective and in-universe. The simplified version is simply that it has nothing to do with the actual break-up and actually damages the argument of love square stans rather than helps, but I’ll explain in more detail.
Firstly, it’s an actual, literal fact that Adrien himself has nothing to do with the break-up between Marinette and Luka. If you were able to magically edit out the Adrien pictures from Marinette’s wall and all scenes/lines that mention him, nothing would change: we’d be watching an episode where Marinette tries to date Luka, is cut off at every chance due to Ladybug duties (which stress her out so much to the point of being even more forgetful than usual), he gets akumatized, they break up because they’re unable to have the honest relationship that both Marinette and Luka want, and Marinette sobs to herself in her room because she can’t date due to being Ladybug.
Any mentions of Adrien do nothing for the actual story, which brings me to my next point:
Both in-universe and narratively speaking, the show already makes it obvious before The Call happens that this is not just a Marinette problem, but a universe problem. The girls, Ziggy, Luka, and the girls again drag in Adrien to be the topic of discussion at different points in the stories without Marinette’s direct input. At no point during the episode does Marinette herself bring up Adrien without him being the topic first.
This tells us two things:
1 - Marinette’s problem with Adrien extends to other people bringing him up to her unnecessarily. The argument can’t be made that Marinette and only Marinette brought it on herself, because the fact that it’s a problem at all should dictate that the others should stop enabling it by bringing Adrien up.
2 - Marinette can and does have the capacity to not make things about Adrien, but the mention of him makes her lose all sense of self.
If the intent of mentioning Adrien is to imply that Marinette is using Luka as a replacement for him, that disregards what actually happens in the episode. In “Truth,” Marinette is near Adrien on two separate occasions (with Luka directly nearby) and doesn’t have a reaction to him, choosing instead to favor Luka. This contradicts The Call, which suddenly looks more like a moment of panic of her magically-reappearing Adrien wall than Marinette viewing Luka as an Adrien substitute. Marinette also gives Luka a gift specific to him, meaning she thought very much of him and what he would want.
While stans would argue the point that Marinette forgot her date with Luka, she clearly didn’t forget The Gift despite showing in later episode that she forgets virtually everything. This is even disregarding the fact that Marinette essentially tells the audience directly that her memory is shot because of her responsibilities (and any arguing beyond that is gaslighting people with horrible memories into thinking they don’t care about people simply because they’ve forgotten something important about them; S T O P).
A properly-written story would show more evidence to its case, such as Marinette seeing Adrien in place of Luka when they hang out, Marinette whispering Adrien’s name just before she and Luka (try to) kiss, Marinette giving Luka a gift she’d once intended for Adrien (but failed to give him), and Marinette admitting to herself at the end that she was settling for Luka. Not only do none of these things happen, but the show tells its audience in “Gang of Secrets” that Marinette fell for Luka and that she didn’t break up with him due to not liking him. The show, naturally, tries to retcon that in “Crocoduel,” but the retcon proves that they saw the “issue” and didn’t know how to fix it.
Stans will of course continue to argue then about The Call and all the supposed “pro love square implications” it has without realizing the very hole they’re digging themselves into. I mean, this is even going beyond the fact that they will repeatedly bash Marinette for her behavior concerning Adrien whilst they still ship the love square we have in canon.
Basically, everything in “Truth” is explained with one simple sentence: Marinette is obsessed with Adrien, but in love with Luka, and everyone mistakes Marinette being obsessed with being “in true love.”
Obsession takes over Marinette’s mind, her life, everything, and I’ve done whole posts about how thoroughly Marinette’s Adrien crush has ruined her life rather than made it better. Case in point, Marinette wouldn’t even be guardian in the first place had it not been for the Adrien obsession, meaning the Season 4 finale wouldn’t have happened.
Using The Call to prove Love Square Supremacy isn’t furthering their point, but rather shining a spotlight on the exact issue with the love square and why it should never have been endgame in the first place.
