Summary: your date with Mat is cut short when a friend asks you to look after her daughter, but then he tags along

“Please, please, please. I have to stay here for like 3 more hours and I already called the babysitter and she can’t stay longer. Just put on a movie and I promise she won’t cause any trouble.” your friend basically begged you from the other side of the phone.

“It’s not that I’m worried about taking care of her, I love spending time with her, but I’m in the middle of a date Lili.” you told her, turning your head to look at Mat who was sitting back on your table. He sent a small smirk your way, probably because he saw your furrowed brows.

“Shit I forgot that was today.” There was a long silence but you knew what was coming next. “Can’t you leave early? I know I’m asking a lot and I promise I’ll make it up to you.” You could sense the desperation in her tone and you knew she wouldn’t be asking this if it wasn’t really the only option, so there wasn’t much to think about. Even if it meant leaving Mat not even halfway into the date, you had to do it.

“Ok, sure tell the nanny I’ll be there in 15.” you said and heard Lili let out a deep sigh making you smile. Being a single mom wasn’t easy and if you could help your friend in any way you most surely would.

“You are the best. Seriously. Best human being in existence.”

“I know, I know. Now get back to work before they fire you.”

“Love you, bye.”

“Love you too.”

Mat watched you talk on the phone, intrigued but trying not to be noisy. It was clear to see you were in distress and that caused him to worry. Soon you were making you way back to the table. He felt a bit of deja vu seeing you walk to the table like you had done earlier that night when you arrived at the restaurant, gorgeous as ever, taking his breath away. Only that now instead of that beautiful smiled that would appear whenever you looked at him, you had a concerned look on your face, which only made him worry more. You were just trying to come up with a way of telling him you had to leave right now without it sounding like a lame excuse to dip.

“Is everything okay?” he asked as soon as you were next to him.

“Yeah, just a little change of plans.” you started to say, without taking your seat and grabbing your coat from behind it. “I have to leave, like right now.”

“What happened?” He was genuinely preoccupied which warmed your heart.

“Remember my friend Lili? The one that has a daughter of 5?” you asked and he nodded. You had told him about her on one of your first dates some weeks ago. “There was some problem at her office, she has to stay longer and the girl that babysits for her can’t stay the extra hours so she called me to see if I could go take care of little Amy...”

“And you said yes.” he finished the sentence for you.

“Yes. I’m sorry. I promise I’m not making this up.” you were quick to add making him chuckle. “I really was enjoying this but she’s my best friend and Amy is like a niece. I can’t not help her.”

“Don’t worry I totally get it. We can raincheck, no big deal.” he said grabbing your hand in a reassuring manner. “Do you have a ride?”

“No, but I’ll order an uber-”

“Don’t. I’ll give you a ride.” he quickly said standing up, not letting go of your hand.

“You really don’t have to-”

“I’ll take every extra bit of time I can get with you miss.” Your cheeks turned red at his comment and he smiled down at you, loving the effect he had on you.

After making your way to the counter and failing to convince Mat to split the check for the food you weren’t even able to finish, you walked to his car hand in hand.

On the ride low music played in the background as you made conversation and Mat took advantage of every single red light to sneak a kiss or two. However the ride was shorter than you would have wanted it, in a couple minutes you were in front of Lili’s house.

“I’ll walk you to the door.” he said taking off his seat belt. You open your mouth ready to tell him he didn’t have to, but before you could Mat added: “Don’t even try to stop me, every minute counts, remember?” He leaned in to give you a final peck on the lips and then rapidly left the car to go around and open the door for you.

“Such a gentleman.” you joked taking the hand he was offering.

“I try my best.”

He closed the door behind you and gently moved your hand so it would be wrapped around his arm as you walked up to the door. Once there you rang the bell and within the second the door was opening showing you a really stressed teenager.

“Hi you must be Y/N, right?” she asked, already putting on her coat and grabbing her backpack. You nodded. “Thank you for rushing here. I really wish I could stay but I have another kid I have to babysit. Please tell Lili I’m so sorry-”

“Don’t worry she gets it.” you tried to calm her down.

“Amy is in the living room-” she started to say only to be interrupted by the 5 year old suddenly appearing down the hallway. Her eyes went wide and she smiled as she ran down the hall screaming your name.

“Aunty Y/N!” she screamed before jumping into your arms. You couldn’t help but laugh, wrapping your arms around her and positioning her on your side, resting her weight on your hip. Mat was beaming beside you, eyes full of adoration as he watched the sweet exchange.

“How’s my favorite niece doing?”

“I’m your only niece.” she remarked making you and Mat laugh once again.

“You’re getting too smart.” you joked poking her side to make her giggle.

“She already ate but there’s some food on the fridge if you get hungry, and we were about to watch Frozen 2.” the babysitter said as she crossed the door, clearly on a rush to leave.

“Wait do you have a ride or something to get to your next house? It’s already too late to be walking outside alone. I can give you a ride if you need.” Mat said before the girl could leave. You looked at him, a bit surprised by his words but at the same time not at all since you knew how gentlemanly he could get. How he could go from behaving like a kid to an adult within a second still amazed you.

“Oh don’t worry I have my car, but thanks!” she replied, pulling out the keys to the car. “Bye Amy, see you tomorrow.” she added waving to the little girl.

“Bye!” Amy replied waving back to her. The three of you watched making sure the girl got back to get her car safely and once she was gone you closed the door and turned to look at Mat.

“That was such a dad thing to do considering she’s probably not that much younger than us” you teased him.

“I was being polite.”

“I know. I loved it.” you said giving him a wink and made your way to the living room before he could respond.

He watched you walk down the hall with the little girl in your arms and had to tell himself it was way too early in your relationship to start fantasizing about what your kids would look like, but that wasn’t enough to stop him from doing it.

“So we’re watching Frozen 2?” you asked Amy as you placed her on the couch and sat beside her.

“Who is he?” she asked referring to Mat, completely ignoring your question. You surely weren’t about to explain to a 5 year old the concept of dating and boyfriends. Plus you and Mat hadn’t talked about where your relationship stood, so you actually had to discover that yourself before telling the little girl. But as you looked for the right words Mat appeared on the living room and answered.

“I’m Mat. I’m a friend of your aunt.” he said followed by his best smile, but you could tell he was a bit nervous meeting the kid. Especially because he knew kids had no filter whatsoever so she was gonna say whatever came to her mind. He just hoped it was something good.

Amy looked him up and down, sword of examining him and Mat could have sworn he hadn’t felt that judged ever since his fitness test at the scouting years ago. You tried to hold in the giggles as you watched the grown man standing a bit awkwardly in front of you, being extremely intimidated by a 5 year old. Amy then scooted close to you and lifted herself on her knees putting her hands around her mouth and reaching your year to tell you a secret. Nevertheless she was still a loud young kid so what intended to sound like a whisper ended up being loud enough for anyone to hear.

“Is he the cute hockey player you and mom talked about?” she asked and your eyes went wide and face red. You looked at Amy surprised she had just said that and then looked at Mat, who was looking away pretending not to have heard that but the wicked smile on his face said he had.

“We really have to start being more careful with what we say around you.” you jokingly reprimanded her making her giggle. “But yes he is.”

Your eyes went to Mat after saying that, wanting to see his reaction. Proud smile and puffed out chest, it was clear to see he liked hearing that. Mat was a man that thrived on praise, everyone knew that, but he was happy just hearing that you talked about him with your friend. It made him feel important, like he was part of your life and he loved it. He had talked about you to everyone who was willing to hear really, he actually couldn’t shut up about you sometimes and that resulted in his friends teasing him constantly, but he didn’t care. All he cared about was that apparently you were as into the relationship as he was, that couldn’t make him happier.

Amy nodded and then seemed to think about something serious for a moment before turning back to Mat.

“Are you going to watch Frozen 2 with us?” she simply asked like it was the most casual thing ever. You started panicking a bit, heart raising on your chest. This was the first time Mat met someone from your life, it didn’t matter if it was a 5 year old girl who didn’t really understand what was going on. You didn’t want to rush things only to end up scaring him away like it had happened with other guys you’d dated.

“Well Amy, Mat has other things-” you started to explain to her, trying to get out of what could turn out to be a really awkward moment.

“If you aunty is okay with it, then sure I’d love to watch Frozen 2 with you.” he replied with the sweetest grin in his face, but you still feared he just felt some kind of obligation to stay because Amy was the one asking.

“That’s sweet Mat but you really don’t have to. I’m sure there are thousand things you’d like to do rather than watching a kids movie.”

“First of all, Frozen 2 rocks, I wanna watch it. Secondly for the third time tonight, everything I’m doing is because I want to not because I feel like I have to.” he reassured you, washing away once and for all any insecurity left in you. You smiled at him, biting your bottom lips in disbelief, wondering how you had gotten so lucky.

“Then I guess Mat is staying for movie night.” you told Amy and she stood on the couch and started clapping. “But I have to warn you, Mat eats all the popcorn.”

“That’s not true!” he replied, taking his hand to his chest in pretended offense.

“Ok Mat and I will go make some popcorn and you Amy go get your stuffed animals because we can’t watch a movie without them, right?” you said and Amy was instantly rushed to her room making both of you chuckle.

You stood up and grabbed Mats hand, dragging him across the house to the kitchen.

“Is Lili going to be fine with this? You know, she doesn’t know me and I’m hanging around her daughter, I don’t want you to get in any trouble.” Mat said leaning against the isle as you walked around the kitchen grabbing everything you needed for the popcorn.

“I’m like her second mother, Lili trusts me and I trust you to be around Amy so there won’t be any problem.” you told him as you put the bag on the microwave. Those words meant more to Mat that you would have guessed, you didn’t noticed but his cheeks went a bit red and he couldn't contain his smile. He couldn’t understand why you letting him into your life had such and effect on him, and he couldn’t quite put a name yet to the bubbling feeling you caused on him, but he would later realize it was love.

Soon you felt a pair of arms wrapping around your waist and his chest pressing against your back as he rested his chin in your shoulder.

“Thank you, it really means a lot.” he whispered into your ear, squeezing you a little. You knew the action was supposed to be cute, but his hot breath against your skin sent shivers down your spine.

“Could you be any more perfect?” you said turning around in his embrace to face him after turning on the microwave, being met with his all too familiar smug smile that made you roll your eyes and chuckle at the same time. He was about to reply something cocky surely, but you decided to erase that smile of his with a kiss.

You placed your arms around his neck, bringing him closer, as his hands stayed firmly in your waist. His lips fitted with yours in perfect rhythm, like it was meant to be. You wanted to deepen the kiss so badly but a voice inside your head kept on reminding you there was a really energetic, curious little girl around the house that run into the kitchen any second from now. And just as you were thinking that you heard her.

“I’m ready!” her voice traveled around the house from the living room to the kitchen, making you and Mat instantly stop kissing. There was a moment of silence and you looked at each other before you broke out in laughter.

“That’s our cue.” you said freeing yourself from Mat’s embrace. Then you opened the microwave to get the popcorn out as Mat handed you the bowl you had set aside earlier. As soon as you put the popcorn in said bowl Mat’s hand was reaching to grab some.

“Don’t.” You jokingly slapped his hand which made him look at you with furrowed brows. “It’s still hot, you’ll burn yourself.”

“I already kissed you and I’m fine so...” he said with the cheekiest smile, making you roll your eyes at the cheesy comment. Then grabbed some quickly taking it to his mouth, only to start groaning in pain one second later.

“I told you it was hot Mathew. I thought I’d be babysitting one 5-year-old today, not two.”

“I didn’t think it would be that hot-” he started to defend himself but was cut off.

“When are you coming?!” Amy shouted again.

“We’re going! We’re going!” you replied between giggles, grabbing the bowl with one hand and Mat with the other and making you way back to the living room.

When you made it to the room you found 2 stuffed animals carefully placed in the couch facing the tv and Amy next to them wrapped around the Frozen blanket you had gifted her not too long ago.

“I see you have everything ready.” you said placing the bowl on the coffee table.

“Mat sits next Sammy and Eddie.” she pointed out signaling Mat to sit between a stuffed dolphin and a cat, which he instantly did. “And aunty sits with Eddie and me.”

You bit your lip trying to hold in your laughter as you took your seat between your niece and the stuffed cat she had obviously placed there intentionally so you wouldn’t be next to Mat. But the moment he looked at you lifting his eyebrows in amusement a giggle escaped your lips.

“What’s funny?” Amy asked watching as the two of you exchanged looks.

“Nothing, nothing. Let’s watch the movie.” you replied, grabbing the control and starting the movie. Amy snuggled to your side and you could feel Mat’s arm behind your head as he stretched it on the back of the couch.

Within 20 minutes Amy was already asleep with her head in your chest and your left arm wrapped around her holding her close. That’s when you decided to put away the stuffed cat that served as a barrier. Mat looked at you confused, not wanting to do anything that could make the little girl dislike him.

“She’s asleep.” you whispered to him, he had been too focused on the movie to notice. “Sorry about Eddie the cat, she can be a little territorial.” you explained making Mat smile.

You tapped the new empty seat next to you signaling him to move closer and Mat scooted over to your side, placing his arm around you as you gently nestled into his side, trying not to wake Amy up.

“And sorry about tonight, I know this isn’t what you had planed.” you said turning you head to face him.

“Stop apologizing Y/N. I have you by my side, that’s all I need.” he told you and even though his face was barely visible, poorly lit only by the light emitted by the tv, you could see a certain spark in his eyes that showed you how honest he was being. “Also this movie is actually great.” he added, making you laugh.

“You’re earning a lot of points tonight Barzal.” you said stretching your neck to kiss him briefly before cuddling back to his side. He then placed a kiss on the top of your head and went back to watch the movie, which he was clearly enjoying.

Lili arrived at her house over an hour later. She wasn’t surprised when she opened the door to a completely silent house, expecting you to have put Amy to bed by then. However she was surprised when she walked into her living room only to find the three of you asleep on the couch.

Amy had changed position and now was laying on the couch, still wrapped in her blanket, with her head laying on your lap as your arm was placed over her. Mat and you hadn’t moved that much, his arm still wrapped around your shoulders and your head on his chest, but now his head was resting on top of yours, moving your hair a bit with every deep breath he took.

Lili smiled to herself as he took in the scene. This was actually the first time she had seen Mat in person, but she was not mad at all, she actually found it quite cute.

She carefully lifted her daughter in her arms, trying not to wake neither of you up. Amy’s arms instantly wrapped around her neck as she watched you unconsciously snuggle further into Mat’s chest now that Amy had left your side.

Needless to say you and Mat woke up the next morning really confused, not even remembering falling asleep the night before, and with terrible neck pain, but you woke up next to each other which was enough to make it a good morning.

You had talked to Mark that morning about Jisung and how he felt like Mark didn’t like him and asked him to come over. You met up with Mark halfway between the path between your houses, despite Mark telling you not to. You had already called Hyuck and invited him over. He accepted and said he’d be over after picking up some snacks.

You open the front door when you arrive back home. “Jisung?” you call out.

“In here,” his voice is in the kitchen.

You follow it. “Hey, come outside. Everyone’s gonna hang out here for a bit.”

Jisung raises a brow. “Really?”

You nod. “Yeah! Now go,” you say, pushing him towards the door.

“Wait, can I invite Chenle over?” he asks, smiling.

“Of course.” Jisung runs outside and you run upstairs, grabbing your new polaroid.

You head back outside. It’s a perfect day. The weather is perfect and although you know it won’t last, you try to push the stress of the upcoming days into the back of your mind.

Mark is talking to Jisung, basketball already in his hands. You smile and quickly snap a photo.

It doesn’t take long for Hyuck to show up with a bag full of snacks and Chenle trailing behind him. You grab a package of candy for yourself and sit down on the ground, watching Mark and Jisung 1v1. Hyuck takes a seat next to you.

A few moments later, you hear a click. You turn your head and see Hyuck holding your camera. the photo he had snuck of you printing from the bottom of it.

“Hyuck!” you say, grabbing both the piece of film and the camera from him. “I only have one roll of film, don’t waste it!”

“What? I didn’t waste any,” he says, popping a chip into his mouth. “I took a picture of you.”

“The camera isn’t for pictures of me, though,” you mutter, watching as your face emerges through the developing film. “It’s to take pictures of you guys,”

Hyuck sighs and lowers his voice. “I know. I’d say it’s a bad idea, but I don’t have any right to stop you.”

You look at the two pictures before pulling your wallet out of your pocket and tucking them in. “It might still be a mistake,” you reply. “But the thought of not remembering any of this makes me sad.”

Hyuck just nods before standing back up and walking to where the other 3 boys stood. He challenged Jisung and Chenle to a match against himself and Mark.

“What about (y/n)?” Mark asks. Everyone’s head turns to you.

“I’m fine with watching…” you say. You weren’t the best at basketball, at least not when actual rules were in place. Volleyball was really the only sport that came naturally.

“Ooh, she can be our announcer!” Chenle yells.

“Sorry Chenle, but I am not gonna be the announcer.” you set your candy aside and stand up, wiping your hands on your pants. “I said I’m fine with watching.”

“Okay,” Hyuck says. “If the ball rolls towards the street, you can go get those too!”

You roll your eyes as the other chuckle and start their match. After a few minutes, you feel your phone buzz.

heyyy, do u mind if i come over and borrow ur history notebook so i can study the vocab ?? totally forgot mine at school.

You

sure, no problem

ugh my lifesaver. tysm babe

i’m pretty close to ur place so i’ll be there soon

You go back inside to retrieve your notebook for Yeri. The boys didn’t notice. You usually wouldn’t do something like this, but did it really matter? You could be gone by the time of the test anyways.

You walk back outside just in time. Yeri had just made her way to where the others were. Her face brightened when she saw you.

“Seriously, thank you so much,” Yeri says, taking the notebook from you. “I’d be screwed if it wasn’t for you.”

You smile. “No problem.”

She looks at the boys playing basketball. Hyuck had Chenle in a headlock. “Are you the babysitter?”

You chuckle. “It feels like it sometimes. Do you wanna hang here for a bit?” you ask. It only felt right to ask.

She shakes her head. “I’d love to, but there’s way too much testosterone here for me,” she says, giggling. “Plus, I promised Sooyoung I’d hang out with her tonight.”

“That’s okay. Uh, I’ll see you at school then.” you tell her. The words come out choppy and it doesn’t feel right; only because you know it isn’t true.

Yeri flashes you one more smile before saying her goodbye and starting her walk home.

You watch the guys finish their basketball game, although it seemed more like they were trying to beat each other up the whole time.

“Hey!” Mark yells to you. “Let’s go get ice cream.”

You shrug. Why not? Jisung puts the basketball away and you grab your camera just in case. You all begin to walk to the nearest ice cream place. Jisung and Chenle lead the pack, Hyuck following behind them and talking to them about something. You walked alongside Mark in the back.

“Ugh, why don’t we do this more often?” Mark says. He throws his hands in the air. “It’s so fun!”

“I don’t know,” you reply. That was the honest truth. “But I agree. This is really nice.”

“Oh,” Mark says. “Where did that camera come from?”

“I bought it the other day,” you tell him. “I’ve been wanting one for awhile and I had the money, so…”

Mark nods. “Those cameras are cool.” It falls silent between you two, but it isn’t awkward. You realize how comfortable you are with him and it makes your heart hurt all over again.

You reach the ice cream shop and order your favorite flavor. You’re first in line to order as the rest think about what they want. Mark orders after you and you both wait outside for the others.

Jisung’s cone gets knocked out of his hand and he has to get a new one. Chenle orders two for some reason.

“Hey, look at that!” you turn your head towards Mark, who is looking at the fallen ice cream cone. A white butterfly had landed on the cone.

You swallow hard. The sight of butterflies started to unsettle you again. “Wow.”

Jisung finally emerges from the shop, fresh ice cream cone in hand. Everyone stands outside for a bit to eat their ice cream. Eating with one hand was surprisingly hard. You hand your cone to Hyuck to turn on your camera and just hope he doesn’t take a lick of it.

You turned your camera towards Mark and snap a photo of him lovingly looking at his cookies and cream ice cream, completely oblivious to the fact that a camera was on him. After he hears the click, though, he looks up and starts shyly laughing.

“Did you just take a picture of me?”

You nod, smiling. You watch the photo develop before turning it towards him. “Cute, huh?”

He shakes his head. “No! I look so stupid!”

“Shut up,” you reply, putting the photo in your wallet alongside the others before Hyuck forced the now melting ice cream cone back into your hand.

You spend the rest of the night running around town with Mark, Hyuck, Jisung, and Chenle. Everything felt normal. Hyuck seemed happier than usual; you knew it was the same reason as why you kept feeling sad. He knew that soon, his life would be back to normal.

You found yourself by Mark’s side a lot. He offered to hold your camera for a bit before you eventually got frustrated enough with it to go into a store and buy a bag for it. Once it gets dark, you all decide it’s time to head home. You felt sad knowing such a great day was coming to an end.

“Oh, wait, I want to take a picture of you guys.” you tell them, taking your camera out. Jisung rolls his eyes and Hyuck groans. “It’s literally going to take two seconds,” you whine.

They oblige, posing in front of a store window. Mark was on the far left, arm around Chenle. Jisung was to the right of Chenle, and Hyuck was on the far right. You took the photo. “There.”

“Let me see it,” Chenle says, darting behind you.

“It still has to develop,” you chuckle. The younger boy stands behind you until the photo develops.

“Wow,” he breathes. “Cool… I should buy one of these.”

Chenle said his goodbyes before starting his walk home. He lived in the opposite direction than you, so you’d be walking home with Jisung and Mark.

Hyuck, who lived in the same direction as Chenle, started to walk that way as well before stopping. “Hey,” he calls out to you.

You turn to look at him. His hands are in his pockets, shoulders slightly slumped. And for the first time, you realize how sad he looks. “You guys can keep going, I’ll catch up.”

You walk to where Hyuck stands. “Yeah?”

“I probably won’t see you tomorrow, so… I’ll text you when I’m ready to go.” he says softly.

You nod, avoiding eye contact.

“And… if you don’t want to leave… I understand.” he adds. “I wouldn’t if I were you. I’m sorry if I guilted you into feeling like you needed to leave with me.”

You shake your head. “It’s okay. I’m still debating, to be honest.” you pause. Could you stay here with a Hyuck so different than what you were used to? Hyuck was always happy, sometimes too happy. Seeing him so unhappy was hard to handle even if you hadn’t noticed at first.

And no matter how many times you tried to convince yourself you didn’t, that you could get over it, you missed Jaemin. You hadn’t seen him at school at all, only Jeno and Renjun in class. You foolishly tried to think of ways he could join you and Hyuck in this universe — but you knew it wasn’t that simple. His life was so different, and even if there was a way, you knew it wouldn’t be the same as before. He wasn’t yours anymore.

You snap back to reality. “But… I’ll keep you updated.” the wind blows, making a chill run down your spine.

Hyuck nods before turning around and walking away.

You do the same. Jisung and Mark had stopped walking despite you telling them not to. “Sorry,” you say, taking a deep breath. “School stuff.”

Neither of them question it. You walk home alongside the two boys and try not to let your thoughts take over. You reach your home and you pick up the bags of uneaten candy that Hycuk had bought. Jisung says goodbye to Mark before heading inside.

“Uh,” Mark clears his throat. You hear the front door shut in the distance. “I know I said it already, but today was really, really fun.”

You smile. “I’m glad you had fun. I enjoyed it too.”

“Do you think… we could hang out tomorrow?” Mark asks. “Just you and me.”

For some reason, his words make your heart drop. You nod hesitantly. “Of course.” And although it made you nervous, deep down you were happy to be spending your possible final day here with Mark.

Mark nods. “I’ll see you then. Goodnight.”

You smile. “Goodnight, Mark. Let me know when you get home.”

Mark returns your smile before walking away. You take a deep breath and head inside. Jisung was in the living room, already watching TV. You head upstairs to your room, removing your camera from your bag and setting it aside. You open your wallet and look at the photos you had collected.

You look at the photos of Jisung, Jisung and Mark, Mark eating his ice cream, everybody together, and then the photo of you that Hyuck had taken. You couldn’t help but smile at them.

You lay down on your bed, realizing how exhausted you were. It didn’t take long for you to fall into a deep sleep; your mind didn’t even give you a chance to wander.

OK, let's talk about it. I was kinda neutral to everyone in the Loser club except Richie for a year or more. Then while being in fandom I fell in love with these guys like with everyone of 'em concluding Bill. I saw mini series some time ago and that was cute and had a lot from the book (and abult Eddie-) but it was so naive and looked kinda stupid (sorry everyone but I'm the new auditory and I can't get that seriously especially after new films) while new films... Weeelll...

Let's be honest, I saw It 2017 only bc of James McAvoy in the second chapter and I found it boring. And then the second part I found more like a comedy than horror. I didn't like films that time but I liked characters (Richie). Some weeks ago I rewathed both It 2017 and It 2019 and second one is still too long and a comedy but first I found interesting

So remake is great at least on the second time watching and that's enough

And I like how bad effects make him seams not like an awful monster who will eat u but like a friendly mischief (listen me up: he makes sink dirty right after Bev cleaned it up like phhhhhhhhahaha really u're a moron u know). Yeah, that's not that Pennywise is meant to be but that's adorable

And I love Bill's version bc he does look scary (in a some way, of course). Yeah yeah new effects are doing their work and the costume is less friendly than Tim's but the most important is Bill's acting. His mimic and expressions are perfect he fits this role way too good. And, damn, he's so funny like... Yeah, I'd spend my last minutes with him he's great, that would be the most hilarious death I could ever get

Sitters 4 hire (Yu-gi-oh)

The sun was just setting in domino city and Yugi Muto, King of games, was all along at the turtle game shop. His grandfather had gone off on a senior's cruise since the shop had come into some money as of later (being the official shop of the king of games DID have it's PR perks) And Joey and Tristen had gone camping for the week. They had of coursed offered to let Yugi come along but since the last time he'd gone with them he'd been chased by a bear, sprayed by a skunk and had gotten a rash on his butt from squatting among poison ivy, he turned them down. Mai was working on the cruise, and Duke was taking advantage of the fact Tristen was out of town to try and woe Serenity. even Anzu was MIA in a way, she had a big competition coming up and was putting in extra hours at the studio and the gym to make sure she was at her best. Now Yugi while disappointed not to have any of his friends to hang out with during the day (since it was summer break) He was maybe slightly OK with them not being around as he'd been making use of a certain service in town. It wasn't the kinda of service that some of the more lewd type might of made use of though. Frankly, if any of his friends ever found out what he was doing the little king of games would die of embarrassment. For it was a babysitting service that he'd been making use of, after working out a deal with the nice ladies who ran it. Because Yugi Muto, the king of games, was a diaper wearing little.

Hina was a 25 year old black haired bombshell, and she was the one who ran the service (Sitters 4 hire) and had met with Yugi when he'd first tried to set up a semi deal during spring break. He'd been adorable with how blushy he got and the stammer that started up, but she'd had to go though everything he was expecting, and of course to make sure he knew there would be no naughtiness so to speak. They had met at the headquarters for sitter's inc, a surprisingly boom business that employed 48 sitters currently. the way the service worked was that they could train you or you could come in and just take a test to prove you could handle the job, then you were free to freelance though most jobs in the city now came though them, and they would select the babysitter who best suited what the parents wanted for a job. She and Yugi had been in her office, giving the poor guy some privacy though lord knows he wasn't the first little guy who had asked for this sorta thing. "So, If I understand you right.. you wish to be treated like a toddler, but one who still needs his big bulky diapers and prefers baby bottles over sippy cups. correct?" She asked. "I..uh..Yes." Yugi said, squirming big time. "and any attempts at potty training?" She asked, typing away n her computer. "N-No." "and will you just be going tinkle, or boom boom as well?" She asked, smirking as Yugi blushed big time and looked like he wanted to curl up in a ball. "I..Using my diaper for everything." Yugi finally managed to say. "Alright. and you understand that this is NOT a sexual service, so any sort of hanky panky you might expect, not happening, though if you wish to er.. you know..yourself.. we ask you wait till our sitter leaves." "U-Understood!" Yugi squeaked out. "alrighty then Little Yugi. I think we can give you all the TLC you need. one last thing though, do you prefer a Male sitter or a female one? and of course. you can count on us to keep it under wraps the bigggg tough King of games is just a widdle guy." Hina giggled and winked at Yugi. "G-Girls only please."

And with that Yugi was a client, though getting the freedom to use the service had proven trickier then he thought. Gramps would sleep though almost anything but it was more Joey's annoying habit of showing up unannounced. add in Anzu having called once while he was using it and feeling reallly weird talking to his sorta maybe kinda girlfriend while he was in the middle of a diaper change and well.. He'd only made use of the service three times and outside of distractions like Joey and Anzu, or gramps snoring, he'd been in love with it. Dialing the special services number he'd been given Yugi shifted from foot to foot, looking at his stash of little guy supplies he had out on his bed. it was a male voice who answered, and Yugi almost hung up the phone right then and there, But he had gone SO long being a stupid big boy that he swallowed the urge. "Sitters 4 hire, special service line, how may I help you?" Came the amused voice over the line. "I..Uh..See.." Yugi squeaked. "Take your time little guy." "T-This is Uh.. Account number 45 I.. I um.. have a pre-paid account and er-" Yugi said, closing his eyes. god, this was ALWAYS the hardest part! "Oh Little Yugi~ I see. Is our widdle guy in need of a babysitter again?" if Yugi had been blushing bad before, hearing his name used took it to the next level. "Y-Yes please." "Alrighty little guy. do you wanna set a bed time or leave it up for the babysitter?" Yugi looked at the clock, it was just just going on 7:30 pm. "H-How soon can you er..have a sitter..over here?" Yugi asked. "Hmm..Oh! I have some one right in your area at the moment, and she's cleared for working with cuties like you. I can have her there in 5-10 minutes tops." "T-Then um.,. a 9 pm sharp bed time please and thank you." Yugi said. "Of course little guy. I should warn you though, our girl I'm sending over can be somewhat strict, so a certain little guy better have his huggies on." Teased the operator. "I..I will." "Good boy~ Have fun little guy, and thank you for using Sitters 4 hire."

Rebecca Hawkins had just finished putting a cute little 23 year old sissy baby down to ed for the night, and was in the parking lot of the apartment building the Lil sissy lived in when she got a text from work. Of course she didn't actually need the money she was making doing this job, but well, she enjoyed the power rush she got since she was a strictly special services only sitter. Add into it that as a rule of thumb most of the teen and adult babies she looked after tended to be wayyy more well behaved then actual babies and toddlers and she was in heaven. She had been planning on calling it a day, and honestly could of turned down the job, but once she saw the address her interest peaked. 'No way..my darling Yugi is a..' She thought and a BIG grin filled her face. If she was being honest, the young genius had mostly gotten into the doming little babies scene after meeting Yugi..there was just something about the little guy that screamed 'DIAPER ME!' and now, she knew why. She accepted the job and got the info folder, sent to her, which confirmed it WAS Yugi and he was just a big toddler, and she felt herself almost melting as she gushed over how cute and awesome this was gonna be.

Yugi had been a good boy like he was told to be and was now was dressed in one of his dark magician diapers, which was bulky enough to give the boy a waddle to his step.he hadn't just left it at that though, and as such was in a pair of purple socks that had the dark magician girl on the sides, doing her trademark pose. Moving up from there He was sporting a purple (if you couldn't tell it was the little guys favorite color) diaper shirt, with the diaper itself peeking out around the leg holes. and of course the shirt had a picture of the little guys most favorite monster, The dark magician on it. He'd been setting up a little area in the living room for him and his sitter to play, a nice soft baby blanket on the floor and some plushie and rattles. and of course he had a couple of bottle of milk chilling in the fridge (he wasn't that fond of juice when toddler mode, go figure) and jumped a little when the doorbell rang. Waddling his way over to the door he took a deep breath and opened it, then turned crimson as Rebecca was standing there smirking. "R-R-Re-" He stammered, trying desperately to think of a excuse, never once connecting the slight possibly that THIS was his sitter. "Hiii little guy. Somebody was a good widdle boy and got dressed for me I see~" She said, winking and giving him a head pat. Yugi just stood there, jaw dropping as she strolled past him into the room.

Rebecca was chuckling to herself, the look on Yugi's face really had been just too cute. She took in his set up and nodded in approval before turning to look at him, he was STILL by the door, and seemed frozen. "Little Yugi, unless you want the whole block to see you in all your big baby glory, you might wanna shut the door." She teased. Yugi yelped and nodded, slamming the door fast and waddled over to her. "Now I know this might be a little be weird for you, since we know each other and all, but I promise that I won't tell anyone about what a widdle diaper boy you are~" Rebecca promised, and then gave Yugi's bum a few pats. the effect was instant and adorable, as the little guy spread his legs and she almost swore his eyes glazed over. "now then, since we have a little while before somebody needs to go night night, does widdle Yugi wanna play with his toys and watch some cartoons?" She asked. Yugi dumbly nodded his head and waddled over to the blanket, plopping down and picking up a stuffie of the dark magician and cuddling it to his chest. '..He's really pushing the no pictures rule.' She thought with a sweat drop, then moved over to the couch to turn on the TV for the little guy.

After the intonation humiliation worn off, Yugi had to admit it was kinda fun having someone who knew him so well babysitting him. She knew to put it on little dueler's for him, and even sat down on the blanket with him after a bit, playing as the Dark magician girl and acting out the plot, with them fighting a Summoned skull who just really needed hugs. He got so into it he actually forgot he was wearing his diapies till she paused the game to stick a finger in the leg band of his onesie and diaper. "oh wow! still dry! is this a new record for you?" She asked and winked. Yugi blushed bad at that, but also nodded his head, though he could feel a bit of a need building up. only problem was it was a backdoor need so to speak and he wasn't sure he wanted to do THAT in front of her. "well, it's almost time for beddy byes, I think I'll feed you a nice big ba-ba first though so you can make a bigggg wet diapie for auntie Rebecca to change before she leaves." She giggled. "T-There's ba-ba's ready in the fridge auntie." Yugi said, and squirmed like crazy as she got up and kissed his forehead. "Good boy!"

Rebecca wasn't stupid, and had noticed Yugi squirming as well as heard the tummy gurgles. Maybe he thought he was being all sly and she could see why he might be embarrassed to make presents for her, but as a responsible baby sitter she couldn't let her charge hold it in and get a owie tummy, or worse, unleash it after she had left. Truthfully changing dirty diapers wasn't one of the highlights of her job, and normally with her usual client list she could get away with leaving them smelly. It again helped most of them where naughty little guys who wanted a lot of teasing and shaming. But with Yugi, he was clearly just a big baby, and she willing to put in some free overtime if that's what it took. Selecting a bottle of milk from the fridge, she popped it in the microwave to warm it up, then turned to watch Yugi who was on his knees now. he had the DM stuffie launching wooden building block at a stuffie of the blue eyes even as he was squirming and wiggling about, clearly a toddler who had to go potty. 'I wonder if he's gonna fess up?' She thought, though as the microwave beeped a loud poot escaped Yugi's bottom. getting the ba-ba out and teasing it on her wrist, she wasn't surprised to see Yugi hiding his face in his stuffie as she came back over. "heh, relax Yugi. everyone farts." She said and got on the couch, then patted her lap. "I..uh..I..Otay." Yugi squeaked and crawled over, getting set in her lap and closing his eyes as she guided the nipple of the ba-ba into his mouth. "Drink up so you can grow up to be big and strong~" She coo'ed.

Yugi's tummy was churning big time and he knew any second now he was going to lose the battle and fudge his huggies. it wasn't even a question of making it to the potty anymore, he doubted he'd be able to move much without losing the battle. his only goal at THIS point was to hold it in till the session ended and Rebecca left, not knowing that she had already planned to stay and see it though. the warm milk tasted so good though, and was having it's normal effect of making him super sleepy. It was while all sleepy that he decided letting out a bit of pressure couldn't hurt and went to let out a small fart or two. Rebecca had already said everyone farts right? the small small turned into one big one, with three others following and Yugi's eyes flew open as he realized he'd released the flood gates so to speak. a super gross sounding fart, though muffled by the padding and outfit and Rebecca's poor lap, filled the room and then it was game over. the back of the diaper filled up rapidly as his tiny bladder soaked the front and Yugi was a dark crimson as he looked up at Rebecca who just wrinkled her nose a little, ut smiled and kept the bottle in place. "whew, Smells like somebody really wanted to make a super big present for me!" Yugi, mouth filled with a rubber nipple and diaper full of waste, did a bare nod.

One thing Rebecca hadn't counted on when trying to get Yugi to go uh-oh, was just how TOXIC the little guy was going to be. he was by far the biggest stinker and she made a mental note to hook him up with some pills to cut down on the smell. Still the little guy was clearly mortified he'd lost control, which was funny since he'd likely of been delighted to make presents. her lap was slightly burning from the heat and force of which Yugi had unleashed his uh-oh, and the smell again, was burning her nose. Still, she let him finish his ba-ba before standing him up and smirked as his diaper drooped big time. "oh my, when was the last time widdle Yugi had a poopie?" She asked, and patted his mush tush and cupped the butt. "A-Ah! I..I uh..Fhree day ago." Yugi lisped. "well I think somebody needs a auntie to come by and help keep him regular, don't you?" "I..uh..I dis dun have 'nuff on me's account ta-" Yugi started to say and Rebecca smirked. "Don't worry, I'll work off the clock. though I'll have to keep my freebies to a minimum so we don't get in trouble." he said and winked. She tugged the diaper boy towards his room, gushing at how he had to cowboy walk and spotted his changing pad, with wipes and everything ready to go. "After auntie gets you in a clean diapie, it's bed time little man. I hope you had fun." She said, and guiding him over, kissed his cheek before gently setting him down on the mat. "I..I did. Fank's auntie Rebecca." Yugi coo'ed and popped his paci in his mouth. "You're VERY welcome Yugi." She coo'ed back and then started to open the diaper. 'Maybe I'll get lucky and it won't be so.. bad.. Oh god!' Tears filled the blond's eyes, not out of sadness or fear, but just the smell was making her eyes water. Yeah, Having Yugi as her new little guy was going to be fun and all, but Rebecca was totally gonna have to have him go more often to avoid the nightmare before her. Still it would be a labor of love, and she couldn't see ANZU being willing to do this. 'heh, all that time trying to show her up, and all I needed to do was wipe his butt.' Rebecca thought, though she wondered if maybe the boys fumes were making her lightheaded. Yugi for his part drifted off to sleep 30 or 40 seconds after she started, which didn't make the change any easier. "Kiddo..your lucky your cute." She muttered under her breath. with Yugi changed and redressed, she tucked him into his bed, which had a toddler rail and gave him one last kiss goodnight, before taking off.

Examining Youth Culture

A character I identify with is Janis Ian from Mean Girls because she was PETTY. We both have the ability to hold a grunge and exact our petty revenge. Although I don’t think I have the dedication Janis has, I found many similarities between her and I.

Janis is creative and smart. She does art and came up with the brilliant plan to ruin Regina George. She’s a caring and loyal friend but a bit of a hot head.

I find these qualities in myself as I consider myself creative.I started learning to sew in an attempt to up-cycle my clothes. I like doing DIY’s and am currently working on my newest project, which consists of me painting a chair, and I am also attempting to interior design my bedroom. I’ve also been told on numerous occasions that I can be a hot head and stubborn. Some people know their flaws in character traits, for me it’s my need for petty revenge. I was raised with three older siblings and one younger one. We all share similar interests and like the same things. If one of us did something we consider fun and exciting, the rest of us would want to try it. This made me develop the mentality that we all have to have the same experience in order to be even. This mentality mutated into the idea that if I was wronged, I needed to get ‘even’ in order for it to be fair. Regina George ruined Janis Ian’s life and in Janis’s eyes in order for her to return to the favor, Janis had to ruin Regina’s life. I had a similar experience to wanting to get revenge on my brother Jeffrey. About a month ago, my mother asked me to pick up her new glasses from Walmart and I obliged. I drove to Walmart, they showed me her glasses and I took them home with me. My brother hard accompanied me on this errand, but he didn’t see my mothers’ glasses. I asked Jeffrey if he wanted to see the glasses on the car ride home and he said he would see them later since he was driving. Jeffrey then asked me “Why? Are they ugly?” And although I didn’t say yes, I didn’t say no either. The next day my mom was struggling to see something, and I asked her why she wasn’t wearing her glasses. Jeffrey then approached us and told my mom “Rosario said your glasses are ugly.” In utter disbelief I literally gasped, and my jaw dropped as he EXPOSED ME. Although an opportunity hasn’t presented itself, I am still waiting pertinently for my revenge. Similar to how Janis waited for an opportunity at revenge when and found it in Regina’s desire to be friends with Cady.

I’ve recently watched films like MID-90’s, KIDS, Mean Girls, The Breakfast Club, and shows like Euphoria, along with Saved By The Bell.

One of the common themes in the stories present is sexual promiscuity among youth. Sexual promiscuity is prevalent in all of the films and shows we watched In the movie Mean Girls, Regina jumped from Aaron to Shane, Aaron jumped from Regina to Cady, Gretchen appeared to have been ghosted by two different boys, Karen Smith even made out with her first cousin.

In the film MID-90’s, Fuck-shit appeared to be a chick magnet the girl Stevie was sexually involved with told him that all her friends wanted to hook up with him. Even 12-year-old Stevie had a short lived sexual relationship. The film KIDS, it was clear that all the kids were very sexually active, especially Ruby who had been with multiple sexual partners. Telly appeared to be just as sexually active since he hunted down girls to sleep with.

In Saved By The Bell, it’s clear that Slater and Zack are good with the ladies. They are both charming and suave. Zack is seen with a new girl in many of the episodes and so is Slater until he finally gets a girlfriend.

In The Breakfast Club, although they don’t talk about sex much, the audience can tell that not having sex is a big deal when John asks if Claire if she is a pristine girl and Clair feels the need to lie. In this case, when John asks Claire if she’s pristine, he’s really asking if she is a virgin.

In Euphoria, all the characters seemed to be extremely sexually active. Rue and Jules get together, Jules and Ana sleep together in New York. Maddy and Nate sleep together and with other people when they are broken up. McKay and Cassie are sexually active almost instantly. These teens appear to be more sexually active than most and go through partners as if they were all in a race to see who could sleep with more people. In reality, teens are just as sexually active and often fall in and out of love easily. I knew girls in high school that had new boyfriends every week.

Another common theme found in these stories is teens trying to fit in.

Mean Girls character Cady does a full 180 on her appearance in order to fit in with her friends, Plastics and otherwise. When Janis tells Cady to work as a spy in Regina’s friend group Cady obliges simply because they are friends. Cady then changed her appearance in order to adapt to the Plastics.

Rue from Euphoria stopped doing drugs in order to remain friends with Jules, who put that condition on their friendship. Zack From Saved By The Bell tells a college girl he is also a college student in the hopes they might date or more.

Claire goes along with everything her friends do even though she hates it because she wants to fit in and remain a popular kid.

In MID-90’s Stevie started smoking in order to fit into his group of skater friends. In KIDS, Jennie participated in drugs when she wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to but was encouraged by a friend to do so.

All these teens had some form of transformation as they struggled to fit into the groups, they desperately wanted to be a part of. The concept of teens struggling to fit in not new or far from the truth. My friend joined her school’s soccer team to fit in because everyone in her neighborhood played soccer. She continued playing for years even though she hated the sport. Her need to be friends with the kids in her neighborhood made her continue playing a sport she despised.

Lastly, a common theme found in these stories are friendship. Although all the characters in each story did fall into some form of peer pressure or struggle to fit in, they did find real friendships.

Cady, Janis, and Damian seem to have a genuine friendship as Janis made a plan to exact revenge for Regina stealing the boy that Cady liked. (plan seen in image below)

Rue and Jules are the type of friends that would do anything for each other. This was made clear when Jules peed in a bottle for Rue to pass a drug test.

The kids at detention in The Breakfast Club created a special bond as they share intimate details of their life.

In MID 90’s Stevie’s friends cared about him they way someone would for their little brother. When the kids got in a car accident, they all stayed at the hospital until they could visit him.

Zack and his friends tried to protect Kelly’s feelings when they found out her boyfriend was cheating on her because they cared about how she would react and feel.

In KIDS, Telly’s Friend let him borrow his parents’ room so that he could have sex with a girl which was something that was really important to him.

Teen' friendships are like their second family. They bond in their common struggles and passion and grow up together. People often say that you won’t remain friends with the people you go to high school with, but I disagree. Although I did not remain friends with everyone I went to high school with, I did remain close with a few that I made my second family. Since we grew up together and share so many memories, we will always have love for each other, and that love began when we became best friends in our teenage years.

I’ve recently noticed that soundtracks can impact a film or tv series by using the music to help guide the audience on how they should feel. Shows and movies use soundtracks to let an audience know when to feel happy, sad, or scared. It can even add some drama with dramatic music. In reality tv shows, producers will often play incredibly dramatic music when two people have even the smallest fight. The music elevates the experience of the viewer, as well as enhances the effect of the emotion they are trying to convey.

In an effort to add a more comedic effect to the film Mean Girls, here are the songs I would add to the soundtrack and why: Mean Girls 1. Regina’s theme song would be the song ‘Obsessed’ by Mariah Carey because everyone in her school was obsessed with her and because she was convinced that Janis Ian was obsessed with her. 2. The plastics theme songs after they ditch Regina and temporarily name Cady the new queen bee would be the song ‘Loyal’ by Chris Brown ft Lil Wayne & Tyga. More specifically the lines “these hoes ain’t loyal” would play every time Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners appeared on the screen. 3. Cady’s theme song when she looks at Aaron- Come And Get Your Love by Redbone

4. Cady when she gets outed as a spy in Regina’s friend group by Janis in the gym- Everybody plays the fool by The Main Ingredient 5. Cady when she is constantly reminded to join the mathletes- I Forgot that you existed 6. Cady when she saw Regina and Aaron kiss at the Halloween party- I’m Upset by Drake 7. Cady when she first saw Aaron- L-O-V-E by Nat King 8. When Karen Smith does the weather report with her boobs- Rain On Me by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande

9. Regina five seconds after Aaron dumps her and she moved on with Shane Oman- Thank U, Next 10. After the trust fall scene, where all the gilt’s go to the gym and express their feelings and Janis’s confesses to convincing Cady to infiltrate Regina’s friend group - Look What You Made Me Do

With the playlist i made i think this would make a good “crack” youtube video. I always find those entertaining with their funny captions of scenes and updated soundtrack.

Summary: She’s fascinated with his hair. Just his hair. But Ryousuke finds it invasive, and of course he won’t let her off that easily.

Chapter Two: Not even an acquaintance, but a nuisance

Snickers.

She hears snickers. From the people passing them by, and a certain distinct one.

"What did I even do wrong?” she asks distractedly. “I just made a mistake."

"Exactly."

That chuckling continues. She wants to cry. Out of humiliation and relief at the same time.

"Huh?" She blinks, then realizes, her eyes widening before settling back to a small frown. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with being friends with someone who just happened to be your brother." Her brown eyes now locks gazes with familiar ones of the same color, hidden behind thick black glasses. Help me. Please.

The source of the annoying, mocking chuckles straightens up, but his eyes still laugh. Not for free, right?

You're unbelievable.

"Are you even friends?" Kominato pulls her back to attention, away from the three-second conversation of eyes.

"What do you mean?"

"Maybe you're just forcing it on him. Or you've been targeting him next."

"Stop treating me like some criminal."

"Ryou-san!"

She is pulled back by the scruff of her collar, her feet lifting off the ground a bit, as someone's broad back fills her vision. "Ack!" she almost chokes.

Their interrupter starts talking to the senior, allowing her to step further behind him to hide from eyes she couldn't even see. That's when a school bag is deliberately dropped on her feet.

She groans, but has to take it with her.

"Oh?" she hears Kominato as she steps onto the stairs. "So that's why she doesn't grow. Your girlfriend."

"Geh," both second-years gag.

Leaving the usual denial up to her savior, she slips away as they easily slip into baseball talk, the school bags on each hand keeping her from running up the stairs. Reaching 2-B's classroom, the bag almost flies out the window, the way it bumped into the sill before it landed on the desk behind the one she'd chosen for herself. She then hunches over on her own desk, making fake sobbing noises.

Black.

Interacting with Kominato Ryousuke, which she tries so hard not to do, always leaves her feeling dark and gloomy.

She's used to non-friendly banters, but this is something else. He'd always manage to work her up with just one word from him. And she ends up spouting unintelligible things that would put her into more of a disadvantage.

What was she even thinking? Even back at the train station. What could have happened if ever she had encountered the older Kominato back then?

So much for wanting to advance to the 'friends' category.

"Bop." A light tap on the back of her head.

Almost instantly, she turns with both arms outstretched. "You-!"

"Not the glasses, no marks on skin," the male brunette warns, which temporarily halts her actions until he sits down.

"Ka-zu-yaaa!" She settles on pulling his bangs with every syllable before flopping face-down again, now on his desk. "Kazuya," she groans, "I'm so stupid."

Black. That's all she can see right now.

How wonderful would it be to sink in darkness and stay there forever.

"I'd be lonely," she hears Miyuki say.

So she said that out loud. "Ew, Kazuya. Please listen to yourself."

But if only she'd stop seeing color—no, if she'd only stop seeing that pink, she'd stop approaching it like a moth to a flame.

She buries her face into the blackness, wishing for a black hole to swallow her up.

"Stop hugging that, it's not him." Miyuki carefully pulls his bag out from under her, replacing the black she's seeing with the beige desk.

She remains unmoving.

"Did you throw this? I have a packed lunch in here."

"I don't care because it's not true."

"My contacts and goggles are—"

"You have them back at the dorm."

"As expected of a stalker, huh?"

"As if."

Miyuki laughs. "Now what was that all about earlier?"

She groans again.

"I thought you've been avoiding direct interactions with Ryou-san? And now you do a surprise attack?"

"You mean you saw everything?" She shoots up, prompting Miyuki to lean back on his chair for she almost hit his chin.

"Of course." He grins.

"Then why...?"

He shrugs. "I was wondering what you're up to."

She sighs and looks out the window. "I thought he's Haruichi."

"Haruichi?"

"Ah!" She looks back at him. "Kazuya, why didn't you tell me Kominato-san has a little brother?"

He holds up both hands to chest-level. "Trust me, this is the first time I'm hearing this."

"He just joined the team! You met the new members last week, right?"

"Do you really expect me to remember every single new face?"

"But... but he has pink hair too! That'd be hard to miss!"

"What do you think do we do in the field? Gawk at each other and gossip?"

"Hmph." She crosses her arms. Then she lights up. "Aha! Maybe you got punished for being late!"

He chuckles. "All-seeing eye."

"Spot on!" She giggles. "So that's why you didn't have time to observe?"

"Don't be silly. Practice lasted for the whole day, we all ate in the same cafeteria, and live in the same dorm. It's just, for someone to be remembered, they should do something remarkable first. Or be a miserable failure." Miyuki glances out the window with a smirk.

Click.

"Whoops, forgot to turn that off." She lowers her phone to see Miyuki raising an eyebrow at her. "Sorry, I need money."

"Since when did the little princess need money, huh?" he asks. "My face practically fills up your phone memory. How come you won't just take Ryou-san's pictures too? That way, chances of interaction are lowered." He leans forward. "Or do you just like looking at him in person?"

"I-I wouldn't deny that, but it's really not how you make it sound like. Besides, taking someone's picture attracts more attention. He'd really call the police."

"You think I wouldn't anytime soon?"

She laughs and pokes his cheek. "Of course you wouldn't! Kazuya loves me!"

"Listen to yourself, Aya."

"This is why you two are mistaken as a couple," a voice says beside them.

"Eh? Mochi's our classmate again?" she says monotonously, turning to the voice.

"Nice to see you again too, Aya." Kuramochi puts his bag down on his chair. "Wait, haven't you seen me in the opening ceremony earlier?"

"Of course she didn't," Miyuki butts in. "Her eyes are over to the third—"

"I was just kidding, Mochi!" she cuts off, waving her hand left and right, smacking lightly on Miyuki's cheek. "Don't take it to heart!"

"I thought so, actually," Kuramochi looks back and forth at them.

"And besides," Miyuki's at it again, "she wouldn't be mean to her strongest link to Ryou-san."

"I don't need to be linked to him! I'd cut off all ties you'd ever create between us two!"

"Woah, there!" Kuramochi laughs. "Maybe you should stop for now, Miyuki."

"What do you mean, ‘for now?’”

It's so unfair.

'I work and live for the aesthetic. It's only natural for me to get attracted to what I think is beautiful,' she'd say. Or used to say.

Apparently it had only solidified the misunderstanding.

"You won't drop by practice?" Miyuki notices her heading the other direction after class.

"Aww, Kazuya, do you miss me that much?" she says sweetly as a joke. At Miyuki's deadpan expression, Aya continues walking. "It's recruitment day. I'm—I mean, my drawings—are Art Club's front liner."

"Oh. The double play drawing?"

She sighs. "And more."

The more she draws, the more she needs to observe. The more she needs inspiration, the more she gets teased.

"For Ryou-san's birthday?" she hears Kuramochi overhead.

She'd been sitting outside, a ways bit under a window. "Nah, an order. Miyuki Kazuya #5. I finished one of you, would you like to see…?" She looks up. "Really? It's his birthday?"

"I'm really more concerned now with how you make money."

"At least you know you have fangirls~"

"Huh." He leans out the window. "So do you accept commissions requesting Ryou-san too?"

"Why wouldn't I? It's money."

He shrugs. "I just thought you'd want to keep him for yourself."

Aya squints. "Shoo, Mochi, shoo."

"I'll request one for his birthday, with your full name and signature at the bottom. It has to have a huge 'Happy Birthday' in it."

"That's really sweet of you, to get a birthday gift for your beloved senior. But requests are closed. Go get a gift using your own effort."

Kuramochi laughs his usual. "I'd pay you double if you give it to him personally."

"…I-ignoring you." She picks her pencil up again.

The more she denies, the more she gets misunderstood.

"Makoto-san!" Someone taps her shoulder.

Aya turns around to find the three Seidou managers, plus a younger-looking girl wearing a similar jacket to them.

Sachiko's pigtails seem to bounce as she continues, "I knew you'd be here!"

Aya grins. "Of course! I love supporting the team!"

"And him?" Yui, the short-haired manager, smirks.

"And Kazuya." She beams proudly, despite noticing the two exchanging glances. "He's amazing, right? Three-run homer, man!"

"We know!" both second-year managers, somehow brought back to the excitement of the game with that, chorus.

She then turns to the youngest girl. "Hi!" She waves. "New manager?"

"Y-yes! My name's Yoshikawa Haruno, the first-year manager. Nice to meet you!" The girl bows.

She returns the bow. "Makoto Aya. I'm... a mere audience."

"She's Art Club's pride!" Sachiko says. "You might have seen her drawings of the team on recruitment day."

"U-uh..."

"She's also designed official banners for the team last year," Yui adds.

"W-well-"

"Really?" Yoshikawa faces her fully. "I did see those drawings! They're awesome!"

"T-thank you!" Aya laughs nervously.

"Oh, oh, since you've seen her drawings, have you seen that double play one?" Sachiko asks. "That one of-"

"Stop!"

"Back to the game, you four." Takako, the third-year beauty, smiles, which effectively hushes them.

It's the spring tournament. Seidou High is playing against Ichidai Third, with the former back to the top of the batting lineup.

Kuramochi, as they had all hoped, gets on base.

As the second batter steps up to the box, she tightens her hold on her sketchbook.

Black.

It's also how the surroundings seem to dim whenever he moves in the field. Like there's a spotlight. A pink spotlight, that is. His hair's the spotlight itself.

It's also something she does not want the field to look like for her after he graduates.

Kuramochi successfully steals a base almost at the same time Kominato hits, getting the latter on base as well.

Top of the second, no outs, runners on first and third.

Those two's teamwork has really gotten better since she had first drawn them. And it's a big credit to Kominato's strict training (and harsh words) that had inspired Kuramochi to improve.

"Aaaaand Makoto gets her pencil ready~"

Aya is startled by Yui's face on her shoulder. Even without anything on it yet, she holds the sketchbook to her chest as she turns to the four girls behind her—three of them grinning and one confused.

Everyone who knows about her quest for inspiration—basically the first-stringers, team managers, and the Art Club—would always interpret it as a cute crush on the pink-haired baseman.

Why? Just… why?

Well, she does lurk by the field almost everyday, she pauses to stare at him for a few seconds in the halls, and drawings of him fill her sketchbook and pile up under her study desk.

Man, she's creepy.

Maybe that's why Kominato hates her.

She's surprised she isn't banned from the field.

But really, she just likes looking at him.

He actually looks kind. Just don't let him talk. And he's so cool when he plays. She would dare say Kominato has made her like baseball again more than her cousin could ever influence her.

But that's it. He's just easy on the eyes. She doesn't see it necessary to have feelings for him. It is perfectly possible to simply admire someone without getting romantically involved, but these people wouldn't believe it.

If only she had not messed up just once—or rather twice—she wouldn't be marked as Kominato Ryousuke's number one fangirl.

An Unauthorised History of /r/visualnovels

As communities age, a mythology tends to build up around their origins, with past eras vaguely alluded to as “golden ages.” I’ve seen this happen with reddit’s /r/visualnovels, a place I moderated during its most transformative stage, so I thought I’d offer my insider’s take on its history: what we’d hoped to achieve as moderators, the unintended side-effects of our policies, and why I think /r/visualnovels is stagnating these days. Given my acrimonious departure from the subreddit, you should take this with a grain of salt, but hopefully it’ll be interesting~

The Birth of /r/visualnovels

The very first posts on /r/visualnovels.

/r/visualnovels was founded in late 2009 by /u/Hpdarkman525 (the former account of /u/gambs), who made one post about the upcoming Umineko ep5 fan translation and then promptly forgot about the sub. At this time, the VN fandom consisted primarily of those who had learned Japanese to read VNs, and those who wished they had. Official localisations were almost non-existent, and the fandom hung off the words of the few fan translators. Knowing about VNs felt like knowing a secret, like a secret handshake to be acknowledged as a fellow western otaku.

This didn’t really change until early 2012 with the release of Katawa Shoujo. We now had a Western VN that was free, easy to install (no fiddling with system locale), pretty well written (no cliche cries of “baka” or “onii-chan”), and handled a delicate subject (disability and self-identity) with a sensitivity that really spoke to a lot of gamers. The optional nature of the adult content helped attract horny teenagers while still retaining an air of respectability. KS managed something no other VN had: attention from the mainstream gaming crowd. It drew a huge wave of new fans to the medium, among which were /u/coldacid and /u/Kuiper who became mods on /r/visualnovels and began to promote it.

While the influx of new members gave birth to the community, with newbies becoming veterans, the continued dominance of KS in the VN scene began to wear thin (it wasn’t until 2016 that the number of /r/visualnovels subscribers outnumbered /r/katawashoujo). Especially grating for veterans was the cry of KS as “the best VN ever written” from those who had only ever read that one VN. The constant stream of “what do I read after KS” and rudimentary technical questions on getting Japanese VNs working drowned out the rare news posts or broader discussion threads. The mod team had a hands-off attitude to it, they’d only remove spam or blatant trolling. This only changed in early 2014 when a relatively unknown user, /u/insanityissexy, requested a mod position...

The Rise of Insanity

Insanityy was a member of the old-guard, being drawn to the medium for Japanese VNs and caring little for what she saw as a pale-imitation in Western VNs. With no regard for the old mods, she singlehandedly brought order to a community that had been lawless. She began with a ban on posts for technical support questions and VN recommendation requests. Instead, they should be asked in the new weekly questions thread so as to clear up the front page for news posts and more substantial discussion threads.

While this move was broadly welcomed by most of the subreddit regulars, it caused some disruption as activity on the sub plummeted. With the western VN scene so small, news was rare and the number of daily posts dropped from 2-4 to just 1. While some grumbled, others were enthused in having an active moderator who cared about the sub. /u/kowzz started a discussion thread on what we could do to improve activity on the sub, and from that discussion he started the weekly Sunday discussion posts and I started the weekly “what are you reading” posts. Unlike the questions sticky, the intention wasn’t to curtail activity outside of these weekly posts, but to provide a supplement to the usual discussions and encourage users to comment more.

With such regular discussion posts, users started to bump into each other more often and a sense of community began to build. On a personal level, I also grew to know insanityy better as we exchanged dozens of increasingly lengthy PMs (so much so that each reply wouldn’t fit within the 10k character limit, we had to send our replies in 3 parts), with us quickly becoming close friends.

Later that year, I proposed an overhaul of the user flairs. The subreddit only offered a basic vndb icon. I wanted to expand that to hundreds of options with a larger profile picture offset to the side of a user’s post as a way to personalise each user. With enough options, I hoped it’d be easier to identify users at a glance and it’d add some character to the subreddit. I was admitted to the mod team to oversee the flair changes, but was soon upgraded to full mod status after a few months on insanityy’s urging.

The two of us fed off each other’s passion as we sought to build a more active, mature, and compassionate community. We never paid any heed to the old mods, mod policy was discussed between us on google hangouts and implemented immediately.

To foster a sense of community, we aimed to have a community event once a month: best X contests, census surveys, recommendation charts, fanart contests, halloween/april fool themes being among just some of the activities we organised. We even got Mangagamer to sponsor some contests with free VNs.

We downplayed the seedier parts of the medium, nukige news was banned and discussions on “fapping” were frowned upon. Neither of us were against porn, we’re both fans, but we feared it’d attract a more neckbeard-type audience.

We aggressively went after trolls, but not by banning them. We had automod automatically remove comments from users prone to cause drama, then we’d manually approve non-trollish comments. That way everyone was able to participate in our community, but bad behaviour wasn’t rewarded with lots of attention.

In the following year, insanityy asked the inactive older mods to resign. Kuiper recognised that he was no longer needed and respectfully stepped down. Coldacid said his inactivity was only temporary and he’d be back, but later left reddit for voat as part of an anti-censorship protest. Gambs asked us to drop the subject as he didn’t want to step down, so we carried on ignoring him.

We also added new members to the mod team: /u/FunwithGravity for his knowledge of Japanese, /u/Cornetto_Man because he got along with everyone, and /u/Avebone because he was active at times when the rest of us were asleep. They were added primarily to approve posts mistakenly removed by automod when me and insanityy were afk and had little input on mod policy.

Everything seemed to be going great, we had a growing community that we got along with, trolls were few and far between, and our moderation seemed popular. Then we got a modmail suggesting we try out a new chat program called Discord...

Discord on Discord

When /u/Kowzz and /u/Arcanus44 suggested creating a Discord server, we were initially skeptical. It sounded just like irc, and the /r/visualnovels irc channel had been comatose for years. However Kowz and Arc promised to take care of it for us, Kowz would create the server and Arc would drum up interest. So in Sept 2015, Arc hosted a “meet n’ greet” in voice chat on Discord. While it was by most accounts a success and quite popular, we got some complaints about inappropriate conduct by a couple of users and decided that if this Discord server was going to be linked with /r/visualnovels, we’d need to take an active hand in making sure it maintained our standards.

Kowz was happy to have us onboard, making us admins on Discord. It all seemed smooth, but underneath the surface, the seed of turmoil had been planted in our differing beliefs on who owned the server. Kowz and Arc considered themselves the owners and we were partners, while we considered them to have created the server on our behalf and that it’d run on our principles. Up until then, we’d not had any disagreements on mod policy. Me and insanityy would talk an issue out, if we agreed, we’d propose it to the rest of the mod team and vote on it. We’d picked mods who generally thought the same as us, so votes were normally unanimous. That wasn’t the case with Discord. Kowz and Arc had different ideals on how to run a community, and our usual resolution process of voting felt unfair to them as we outnumbered them 5 to 2.

The problem only got worse with time as insanityy hated arguments so she avoided the staff discussions on Discord and popped in only to vote. Arc and Kowz felt increasingly marginalised by this and that their opinion wasn’t being heard. This led to a standoff where Kowz and Arc demanded their 2 votes should count for as much as the rest of us combined, while we /r/visualnovels mods threatened to create a new server unless we kept one vote each. Discussions got heated until Kowz and Arc eventually backed down. In protest, they chose to stop participating as mods.

While Discord helped bring friends together, it also brought those that disliked each other together. It’s easy to ignore someone on reddit as its tree structure allows for parallel conversations, but the format of Discord makes that harder. This started to become a problem on the server, especially as Discord attracted a different type of user to the subreddit, those who had little patience for the more verbose and patient discussions of the subreddit. We got complaints from the subreddit veterans about some of the newbies but we weren’t sure what to do. Being disliked isn’t a bannable offense, but it was driving away some valued community members.

We didn’t want to create a separate server that split the community, so our misguided solution was the creation of a hidden channel: #sub_regs (a.k.a. the fanclub) that was invite only and accessed via the tableflipper role. The hope was that it’d serve as a backup channel for when #general was annoying and that it’d keep the community veterans on the server. However it ended up encouraging an elitist attitude that divided the community further.

The Fall of /r/visualnovels

With many of the friendly conversations and community atmosphere moving to Discord, the subreddit began to suffer. Inside jokes that were incomprehensible to those not on Discord were frequent, and the community split between those using Discord and those not.

There was also a degree of burnout among the mods. It’s inevitable for all mods, you spend long enough dealing with the worst of the community, the trolls and the spammers, and you begin to develop an us-vs-them mentality. You retreat from the community and draw closer to your fellow mods, looking down upon the normal users. We mods gradually stopped being members of the community and instead became overseers.

Then there was my messy departure from the sub in April 2016. Due to a range of factors: financial difficulties, gender dysphoria, and some toxic “friends,” I became deeply depressed and tried to commit suicide. My fellow subreddit mods (and best friend insanityy) decided the best response was to out me as transgender, block me on social media, and ban me from the subreddit I’d loved so deeply. Insanityy never spoke to me again.

The rest of this is speculation, I was no longer an insider, but from my perspective it looked like this event accelerated the emotional distance insanityy felt from the subreddit as she stopped caring about the community. She tried to carry on as normal at first, running a few contests, maintaining the animated banners I’d once made, but her heart wasn’t in it. She resigned later that year.

With her went the desire to innovate, to improve the community. The remaining mods were followers, not leaders. They could maintain some cosmetic updates and copy the old contests, but they were unable to do anything new. They enlarged the mod team with an additional four members, but it only increased the sense of inertia and made it even harder to get anything done. The subreddit began to feel stale.

The mod team had also become unbalanced, where once me and insanityy spoke up for minority tastes in EVNs and otomes, now the mod team was dominated by Japanese VN fans just as the VN scene was increasingly embracing EVNs. The subreddit felt more elitist than ever just as the medium had never been more diverse.

Unintended Side Effects

While our policies may have made sense at the time, some of the decisions me and insanityy had made began to have a detrimental impact on the subreddit:

We’d brought on Automod to help remove posts when only me and insanityy had to manage everything. We found having a bot leave the removal comment sparked fewer arguments with OP than if one of us did it, and it was more effective at catching spam. But while we strived to reapprove mistakenly removed posts promptly, sometimes OP deleted their post before we could. Psychologically, it also made it dangerously easy to leave some content removed. As we mods burnt out over the years, our standards for what counted as a worthy post kept getting higher with fewer and fewer posts being approved. The end result has been a severe drop in discussion posts on the sub.

When recruiting new moderators, we sought people who thought as we did so mod decisions would be consistent and there wouldn’t be arguments in the mod chat. Modding is stressful enough without the stress coming from within the mod team. However, as you add more mods who agree with you, you can start to have an inflated view of how widespread your opinion is. A circlejerk mentality builds and outside opinion is increasingly easy to dismiss. This can leave users feeling like their opinions don’t matter to the mods and builds resentment.

Insanityy was a kind soul and hated conflict, she avoided disagreements as much as possible. As a friend, this was fine, but as a mod it meant she avoided openly discussing mod policy on the subreddit as inevitably there would be some disagreement. This lack of discussion with the sub made it hard for users to object to the direction the sub took, allowing the mod team to grow out of touch with what the userbase wants.

Hopes for the Future

While I may have been quite critical of the current state of the subreddit, I think the community is a good one and there’s hope for improvement. A smaller, more motivated mod team would help, as well as scaling back some of the restrictions like the question and image-post ban. Let activity on the subreddit explode. Should low-quality content grow to become a problem, perhaps /r/visualnovels should split just as /r/gaming and /r/games have, or perhaps a split between Japanese and English VNs would help?

Not every idea will work out, but what’s important is to be trying new ideas and be responsive to change rather than clinging to an outdated format.

As I said at the start, please remember this isn’t an impartial view on the history of the sub and that this isn’t meant to downplay the hard work of the current mod team. Modding is exhausting, it’s a constant burden with little praise. Even if I consider them poor mods, it doesn’t make them bad people.

I know she won’t ever read this, nor will she care what I think, but I still believe insanityy was an inspirational mod and a wonderful friend. It’s incredibly hard to go it alone like she did when she first took over /r/visualnovels. She stood up for what she thought /r/visualnovels could be and put in so much effort, every day, rain or shine, she never shirked from her responsibilities. I miss her every day.

Ex- “Have you drank any water today?”We send pictures to each other of stuff in stores that we know relates to the other’s interests or an inside joke we have. We draw pictures or write drabbles for each other. We RP just about every day and it feels weird when we’re stuck with nothing to do b/c it’s almost like talking to each other every day & we’re starved for interaction when it doesn’t happen. We make kissey noises at the end of phone calls. We get event Pokemon or breed shinies for each other. We share our music or new interests when we think the other would like what we’re into. 3. What would they marathon?Would’ve been SU but that’s getting bleh......... so musicals and Disney movies? Maybe we could watch some Pokemon movies and bitch about how horrible they are (beCAUSE MY GOD THE VOLCANION MOVIE WAS EVEN WORSE THAN THE GENESECT ONE). Maybe we could do some of the Pokemon anime but there’s a shitton of episodes now & Idk if either of us could stay engaged for long. And I’m not sure there’s any other animated TV series that we’re both into...??

4. What would their wedding song be?Something cheesy that relates to one of the song mixes you made for our RPs I’m sure. So The Sun Will Rise, Come What May, The Call, Never Knew I Needed, I See The Light, Recover, At The Beginning With You, Love Like You, or something to that effect.

5. What is the first memory that they think of, when they think of the funniest moment they had together? Oh jeez... Um... Maybe when we were watching Markiplier together and saw the herb lore meme and you ended up downloading the game and prolonging the meme into our own inside joke? Or the time I was talking about all the different windows in the rooms I used to have and you were just like “Rafe go the fuck to sleep” b/c it was late. Or when we were going on our first date to see When Marnie Was There and we heard sirens and I said “It’s the fun police. Your mom called them.” Or that time we were watching the zoo episodes of SU when they were leaked and we ended up laughing so hard that your mom came in to tell us to quiet down.

So, my brother got into a car accident about 3 years ago. He was driving his car and a motorcyclist ran into him doing around 90 mph, causing the bike to flip and the guy on the bike to dismount and skid across the freeway. The motorcyclist was lucky he didn't get run over or killed. It was deemed by both the insurance companies that it was the motorcyclists fault and when the motorcyclist tried to sue our insurance company, we got a letter from our attorney that the case had been dismissed and no further action was needed. Today, we got a call out of the blue from Mercury saying my brother couldn't be on the insurance anymore because they had settled with the motorcyclist for $100,000 and basically, if we didn't get him off the insurance, my whole family would be removed. We didn't receive any notification that Mercury was planning on paying this guy out or that our rates would be altered. We called the attorney's office but he wasn't in and we explained the situation and the receptionist said they might of just settled anyway without letting us know even though this whole thing wasn't even my brother's fault. My question is, if the accident was the fault of the motorcyclist and when the motorcyclist initially sued and was denied a settlement (there was no mention of a settlement on the attorney's letter; it just said that it was dismissed), how and why would Mercury give this jacka$$ $100,000 and deny my brother coverage? My fiance has a visible tumor (it's visible--it was benign and removed before but came back).
