K/S Day is a fannish holiday that occurs on March 24th. It was first created by The K/S Press in 1997.

Why is K/S Day on March 24th?

William Shatner's birthday is March 22nd, Leonard Nimoy's birthday March 26th. K/S Day was originally based on the pattern of Presidents' Day in the U.S. which takes place on the third Monday of February every year. When fans invented K/S Day in 1997, the idea was to pick the Monday closest to Shatner's and Nimoy's birthdays, and that happened to be Monday, March 24th. While President's Day is not on a fixed date each year but can move a few days back and forth depending on the date of the third Monday of February, K/S Day is always celebrated on the 24th of March; it just makes things easier. 

Wait, I thought there's a K/S Day in September?

In 2009, K/S fans on social media declared September 15th as K/S Day, as this was the original air date of Amok Time in 1967. It is likely that they had no idea that this fannish holiday had already been created a decade earlier. September 15th is therefore the date most likely associated with K/S Day on Twitter and Tumblr. K/S Spring Fever takes place in time for K/S Day #1, but we wholeheartedly welcome the existence of a K/S Day #2. There can never be too many days to celebrate the delight of K/S! ;-) 

Do I have to be on Dreamwidth in order to take part in this fest?

No, a DW account is not required. We have a community on Dreamwidth for announcements and discussion, but schedules and important admin posts will always be publicly visible. The only account you really need for this fest is an AO3 account. You are, of course, encouraged to post/link to your work anywhere you like to after creator reveals; so if you prefer to share your art, for example, on Twitter or Tumblr for greater exposure, then you can crosspost it there as soon as the anon period is over. 

Is this a fic exchange?

No. K/S Spring Fever is a prompt meme, that means participants will not get matched one-on-one and assigned to a gift recipient as is the case in exchanges. So no one is guaranteed a "gift", but there's also much less pressure on participants. Members sign up and post prompts until the defined deadline (see the schedule). Prompts can be claimed by anyone who has an account on the AO3, and the resulting fanworks need to be posted to the collection until the deadline according to schedule. If you need more detailed information on how a prompt meme works (e.g. how to edit your prompts, where to find your claimed prompts etc), please see this section in the AO3 FAQ.

Do I need to be signed up to claim & fill a prompt? What if I missed the sign-up phase?

Admittedly, the term "sign-up" is a tiny bit misleading. The "sign-up" form is for submitting your prompts; if you would like to claim & fill prompts without submitting a prompt yourself, then you do not need to go through the "sign-up" form. Just browse the list of prompts other fans submitted and use the "claim" button to pick whatever tickles your muse. When you claim a prompt it shows up under "My claims" on the collection profile and under "Claims" on your own dashboard. Use the "fulfil" button to post your work, please. 

"Spring fever"? Is this a pon farr fest?

Your fanwork does not need to include fever (pon farr or not) or spring. There is no theme for this fest apart from its focus on Kirk and Spock. Feel free to go wild with your prompts.

Rules:

1. K/S Spring Fever is an event for adults as some prompts or fanworks might be mature or explicit. By taking part you confirm that you are 18 or older. 

2. The focus of your work should be on the pairing Kirk/Spock or Kirk & Spock. Slash (romantic and/or sexual relationship) and gen (friendship) are equally welcome. K/S has many layers and aspects, and this day is a celebration of them all. No other pairings will be accepted in this fest. 

3. When we say K/S, we mean: both TOS (series and movies) and reboot; Discovery and Strange New Worlds content is also welcome (let's hope we'll get some K/S-worthy material from these series one day). No RPF, please. AUs and mirror universe are welcome. 

4. Crossovers between different Trek franchises or between Trek and other media are permitted if the individual prompt states this or actively invites them. 

5. All ratings are welcome in this fest. However, when you fill a prompt please stick to the preferred rating of the prompter (if stated in the prompt). 

6. All genres welcome, including darker subjects if the prompter asks for them (as long as DNWs are respected). Use the AO3 warnings if applicable. 

7. Prompts can be filled by more than one person. You can even fill the same prompt multiple times – the "fulfil" button will show up on the prompt you claimed even if you have already used it for posting a work before. 

8. Participants can fill as many prompts as they want to. You can even fill your own prompt. 

9. Please list your DNWs (Do-Not-Wants) in the prompt if you want to avoid certain types of content, e.g. rape or character death or specific tropes. We kindly ask you to not abuse the DNW system: keep it short and simple, and don't box in your creator. When you fill a prompt, please respect the DNWs listed in the request. 

10. All types of fanworks are welcome in this fest: fic, poetry, filks, art, vids, podfic etc. Made a giant cake with life-size Kirk and Spock marzipan figures? Post the photos. 

11. Minimum word count for written fanworks is 100 words. There is no maximum word count. Minimum for art: a doodle or clean sketch (on unlined paper, if you use traditional media); manips are permitted. No banner or icon art, please, unless it accompanies a work of fiction. 

12. Fanworks in languages other than English are allowed. As this is not a one-on-one gift exchange, but a prompt fest, fanworks in languages other than English are absolutely permitted and welcome! Each prompt can inspire a wide variety of fanworks, and as long as you respect the DNWs and the maximum rating of the chosen prompt, it’s all fine! 

13. Please keep your work anonymous until creator reveals and don't blabber about it on social media. Guessing who wrote what is part of the fun. 

14. Works posted to the collection must be new (created for this fest and unpublished) and complete. No WIPs or placeholder uploads! If you post a work with more than one chapter, it must be complete before the due date. Podfics of older and published fics are allowed, as the podfic itself is a new work. 

15. We allow extra works to be posted to the collection: If nothing among the submitted prompts tickles your muse, and if you missed the chance of submitting a prompt that you could have filled yourself, then you can still take part in K/S Spring Fever by posting the work directly to the collection, without using any "claim" or "fulfil" button. Make sure to put the correct collection name into the appropriate field during the posting process (e.g. for 2023 the collection name is "KS_SpringFever2023", without the quote marks), so that the work stays unrevealed and anonymous until we go live / until creators are revealed. We think of these extra works as treats for the whole community. However, please do have a good look at the list of prompts before you choose to take this road. There are such lovely prompts waiting for creators to pick them, and this should take priority over treats.

A little bit late, but I'm gonna jump in on the recent "RC uses AI art" bandwagon. I understand where you're coming from — I'm an aspiring translator and even before the whole AI craze I had no idea how tf I'm gonna look for a job once I'd graduate, but now the situation's even more dire. That being said, I think we really really REALLY shouldn't jump to conclusions about in this case because

do we actually have any proof that it's AI generated art besides "it looks like that"? Because AI... doesn't really have a "style", it's literally gonna look like the art you feed to it/what it finds on the web. I've already seen at least one instance of artists being told that their art is actually AI generated just because it looks similiar. CGs in all stories are usually more realistic-looking, imo, and showcase the biggest differences between different artists' styles. All of this is speculation is conjecture, but like, so is the whole thing about RC using AI art in the first place. So I'll just move on to more solid argument

just last month, on August 4th, RC announced an open call for hiring artists. I guess this vacancy was targeted at CIS countries since as far as I'm aware they didn't crosspost it to Facebook or Twitter or anywhere besides VK and Telegram channel. On 28th they stopped accepting applications from artists and are, most likely, currently continuing the tryouts. My point is: what kind of company would resort to using free AI and then go and hire real humans you actually have to pay? It just doesn't make sense

As a side note, it is possible that some of the artists may use AI without their hire-ups and writers and so on even knowing that — unlikely, I don't have any proof of that, but it's a possibility. But I feel that the only thing we're doing here is treading muddy waters of conspiracy theories. I'm repeating myself, but it just seems unlikely that there's actually any AI involved when the company in question just started hiring new artists. You may argue that they had to use AI for the most recent update because of the staff shortage but once again: let's not dive into conspiracy theories. Okay, I took longer than I needed to, but I rest my case

I agree with you on some points, it could be the artist using it without the company knowing and it is a possibility (although I think would be naive of them). But I believe that hiring artists and using AI is something that can happen simultaneously, in the beginning. One thing may not have to do with the other either. That said, it has caught our attention because the style has changed drastically from one update to the next and is very similar to how AI-generated images look. The public used to complain that the characters didn't have realistic poses and out of nowhere they change some to something ultra-realistic (without being able to see a real evolution until reaching this point), almost like a painting which happens to be very similar to how the AI works with images. It's something to be suspicious of, we shouldn't straight accuse them, but being suspicious and sharing our distrust is valid, given that many companies have recently been doing this. And if an employee is using AI and they know about it, It has to be approved by someone at the company, and it carries the company name. I don't think they're that naive (an artist's style changes suddenly and no one wonders why).

Since when they see that using AI is cheaper (or costs almost nothing) and it's fast, they have to make a decision, ethical or not.

Let's see what will happen, but I hope for a good outcome! I love RC stories and would be shame if they go for this path.

And of course, this is absolutely my opinion on this, you can agree or not and that's ok for me.

The sale prices will last until December 15th - or until all of the slots are taken, whichever comes first! You can read about the process below the cut! 💙

We collaborate together to create exactly what you want! We discuss poses, styles, color schemes, outfits- the whole shi~bang! Once we come to an agreement on the art, you pay me half of the commission price through an invoice I will send you. I will then create and send you a -very- rough sketch for you to approve. This is where you can make any changes that you want for free! Once you are happy with the rough version, I get to work on the final. And as soon as I receive the second half of the commission price via invoice, I will send you the final result! Included in this are high quality JPEGs, PNGs or TIFFs for any transparency that you may want! If you want to make any changes at this point, each revision costs $15. But, I've never had anyone need to change things after, since we have a full round of revisions upon seeing the rough version.

I prefer to send you an invoice through Paypal, but I can be flexible with other apps! The pricing for each commission is unique! just add the size you want: bust, half body, or full body. Then, select a style.

Styles:

-Lineart: An either transparent or black and white clean sketch of your character, (whichever you'd prefer) that you can color for yourself! No background included.

-Flat Color: The lineart described above, but filled in with flat colors for each section, no elaborate shading or background.

-Full Shading No BG: This is your character lined, colored, and shaded, but with no background.

-Full shading + BG: See your character lined, colored, and shaded all in front of a rottmnt style background!

Add the prices of the size and the style you want to get the final total price of your commission!

Adding an additional character just adds another style fee. So for example, if you wanted 2 characters fully shaded and with backgrounds, and you wanted the size to be full body, the total would be calculated like this,

$30 + $30 + $23 = $83 total

How to identify that someone's account is shadowbanned

Okay so, basically? Tumblr is being a real mess with this, but you can help the artists that got nightmare'd like that! Shadowbanning on Tumblr is a very annoying thing that makes your posts not appear in search and recommendations, makes you unable to use DMs (and people can't send you asks the last time I checked, either?), doesn't show your notes to other people etc.

The easiest giveaway is if the person does not have you blocked, but when you hover over their icon, the blog doesn't display any posts:

(Using a person that got shadowbanned as a volunteer because Tumblr hates good art lmao)

Usually when you check their blog, you can see there is no ask or DMs option available, and for further evidence you could check the posts that you know they liked/reblogged. If it doesn't show their notification, it usually further proves they've been shadowbanned (rarer it means they were blocked by OP since they liked/reblogged this post, so this is a bit more vague). Another good evidence is if their post is not showing in Tumblr's search tags - especially if you clearly remember you did see it in the tags previously!

If you reblog the post from a person that got shadowbanned - it will still show up on the dashboard and in blogs, but shadowbanning still seriously robs artists from exposure (and from potential new customers if they sell stuff). My incentive to check whether artist got shadowbanned is usually when there are too little notes considering the quality.. Works almost always + proves my point.

How to help?

If they have left other means to contact them (email, patreon/boosty, twitter, insta, etc) - message them there, explaining the issue! I usually link a good post about Shadowbanning from @that-damn-girl that explains in details what it does and what to do ( x ), TLDR; they need to message Tumblr staff about the issue via in-site function. Explain that their posts do not show up anywhere, they can't use asks and DMs have disappeared, all that. Usually within one week staff explains it was a glitch and apologise, and they can see the difference when DMs are back, posts show up in tags, their notes are visible etc. Sometimes staff might forget to get back upon too many requests, so sending other ticket is also an option.

Some blogs won't have any means to contact them available, so in these cases I have to "get creative" usually. For example, explain them that Tumblr fucked them up in the comments under some post (track this post regularly because, again, their response will not show up in your notes). Or maybe bother their mutual that I have a reason to think has their Discord or other contacts and could pass the message to them. Usually there are SOME ways to inform the person!

Basically - train to identify and undo this shit! It is somewhat easy to spot when you know what signs you're looking for. I have seen SO many artists, especially ones not speaking English native or who migrated from Twitter to have no idea what is going on, and their followers don't know what shadowbanning is either!

P.S. There is also a rare possible issue (that I have had a misfortune to encounter when I was trying to unban my blog) where they consistently ignore messages from affiliated email. If you feel like that's the case and you have been banned for too long, despite repeatedly sending tickets, try to use another email and explain why you did so. The possibility is very unlikely but as someone who had to deal with this, I just thought it is worth mentioning. Hopefully I was the only "lucky" one like that haha.

I fell off posting on my art blog in March 2020 and have just now decided to put effort into updating it again. Gonna preemptively answer hypothetical questions!

Who are you?

I’m Claudia Chinyere Akole, an illustrator, animator, cartoonist, designer, and educator from Sydney, Australia (Gadigal & Wangal Country).

Did something happen to you?

No, I’ve been totally fine! In fact, I’ve still been making art both personally and commercially all this time.

Did you leave Tumblr for another platform (like Twitter) due to the NSFW ban?

Nope. I’ve been on Tumblr since 2010 (ough) and never really left – I just left my art blog languishing away and stuck to my regular main blog.

I have not ever and will not ever have a Twitter account. Nor will I ever make a TikTok account. I like to keep social medias at arms length coz of the brain worms.

Why did you stop posting on Tumblr?

In early 2020 I’d just quit my day job and shifted into being a full-time freelancer (scary) and actually had a lot of work come thru (good! didn’t become homeless artist!). I continued posting art on my instagram and website but fell off updating my art Tumblr at the same time and then it turned into a vicious cycle of being too busy and overwhelmed by the need to catch up on all the missed work.

Will you be retroactively posting all your art from the past 3 years?

No, but maybe once in a while if I randomly feel like it/have time to. BIG if. 

I decided the only way to overcome my anxiety about resuming my art blog was to clean-cut resolve that I don’t need to catch up on all the missed work from the past 3 years.

Where can I reliably see your art from the past 3 years?

Commission FAQ's

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for their interest in my commissions. It really means a lot to me that y'all want a commission from me! I've been getting a fair amount of comments & questions regarding my commissions so I wanted to try n' address 'em here:

How do I go about getting a commission? I open commissions spontaneously when I have the time and energy to do so. I generally make a post a day or two in advance as a heads up to keep an eye out. Heads up posts generally look like this. Moving forward though I will try to make these posts stand out/look a little more obvious as heads up posts since there's been some confusion about them. Note: I do not send individual heads up messages to people. I just don't have the time or energy to do that. If you'd like a commission your best bet is to keep your eyes peeled for a post that looks like this, read the details and send me a message.

Do you have a waitlist? I do not currently have a wait list, the reason being that I don't always know what my Patreon workload or my personal art needs may be from month to month. I also suffer from depression and chronic pain. I can't really predict when I'll be in a depressive episode or in too much pain to concentrate or draw. My ability to work varies during these times and I can't really commit to a commission waitlist because of this. Opening commissions spontaneously helps me gauge how much work I can take on at the current time and not get overwhelmed having a list hanging over me that I feel like I need to rush through. I've also had negative experiences with commission wait lists in the past where by the time I get to someone they've lost interest or just ghost me. :(

Can you reserve a spot for me next time? I'm sorry, I cannot. I try to give everyone a fair shot at grabbing a commission slot and I don't have the energy to contact everyone interested with personal messages.

I live in a different time zone and I keep missing your commission posts, can you post at a different time? I already do vary the times that I make commission posts, I suspect people may be missing them due to how fast they get claimed sometimes.

Where's the best place to catch your commission posts? Honestly, Tumblr. This is where I make commission posts first, the reason being that other sites don't allow for long posts with images the way Tumblr does so it's harder for me to get all of the information in one place. Because of this Tumblr posts need to go up first so I can link to all the details from my other socials. That being said, correspondence regarding commissions is best on Discord where I can pin your details & reference images. Feel free to message me there username: Jaymzeecat. Tumblr, Twitter and email are also adequate for correspondence though I cannot pin so details can get lost in the conversation sometimes.

It's really hard for me to keep tabs on messages from sites like Furaffinity or Patreon. They also don't allow images to be sent via messages, unfortunately.

While I definitely appreciate everyone's interest and how much y'all help me pay my bills! FOR REAL! I am only one person and I'm doing my best. (And not for nuthin'... I'm old and tired, haha!) I realize you may be frustrated when you miss out on commissions, but please don't send me angry or passive aggressive comments/messages. :( I really am trying to accommodate everyone.

Am I doing any more cons this year?

Yes! I'm doing the hull con 28th of April and the York on the 1st of September~

Do I sell online?

Yes! I have a KoFi shop which admittedly isn't as updated as I would like but link is in my bio. All of my artworks are available as prints and if there is something you would like which isn't yet on my KoFi please just private message me here on Tumblr or on my Instagram under the same username artists_wonder_emporium and I can take a order that way and payment via PayPal 😊

Do I have any other social media's?

I do! I have Instagram and X/Twitter under the same username and profile picture so you can find me easily 😊 Tumblr I post art and photos of my prints, charms, stickers etc. Instagram I post my art and do stories of wips, upcoming merch sneak peaks etc. X/Twitter is just art at the moment, I dont use it too much, just another platform to share my art and for people to contact me on 😂 Also, no, I don't have a tiktok due to video making being far too time consuming 😅

Do I take commissions?

At the moment not officially but I am working on a pricing sheet and hope to open them some point this year! If you are interested just give me a little private message on here or Instagram and I can give you an idea of prices and what I can do~

Do I make my own things?

Some of them! All my art prints and my stickers based on my art prints are made by me 😊 my keyrings, pins and die cut stickers I use a manufacturer for~

How do I make my art?

I've actually got a ask about this so I'll answer this more in depth there but short answer is I use my phone, a free art app called Ibispaintx and (some of you was super surprised to learn this yesterday) no fancy stylus or anything, I just use my fingers to draw 😅

Can I take a photo of you or your stall?

Please do not take photos of me or my stall without permission. I feel really happy you like my art and stall so much to take a photo of it but I would really prefer people ask first. I saw a few people take photos without asking and I know it wasn't your intention at all but it made me very uncomfortable and I know a few other vendors who feel the same way as well. If in doubt, please just ask first before you take a photo of anything at a con! Generally if people ask me first and let me move out of the way I'm happy for people to take photos 😊

Who is the other person on my stall with me?

She is my girlfriend and she always helps me with con prep, she's our driver to any of our cons and helps me a lot with the stall and I couldn't do it without her! She really loves coming to cons with me too and seeing everyone in costume/cosplay and she tends to try and dess up as well for fun! (Side note from her: she was so excited to see Helluva Boss and Hazbin cosplays and Lucifer is her favourite so to that one Lucifer cosplay you made her day!)

that way it'll be easier to find specific tags on the blog and you're way less likely to lose your place in a tag when browsing it. (check out how I just linked you directly to sanchomp's doom tag up top!) desktop themes retain functions like reblogging and liking posts, and they're way more convenient for sorting and accessibility. Just wanted to throw that out there, since it's a great venue for making specific posts easily findable on your blog.

claire's D&D campaigns

If i'm gonna be more active on tumblr for anything, it should be to talk about my D&D characters/ campaigns (the main thing I use twitter for anyway). So! An intro post! ft. my art

A World Torn

[Homebrew] WT is 2+ years deep and immensely complicated at this point, but the main conceit of the worldbuilding is that the material plane is unstable, and dangerous rifts to other planes will often open. Our main quest has been to collect essences from different planes (by defeating bosses on/ from them) in order to free a trapped god who will allegedly fix things.

My PC: Tailor, a cranky and deeply traumatized mid-30s weirdo hermit-slash-tinkerker (-slash onetime actual tailor). Fighter (gunslinger)/ rogue multiclass

Their backstory: 15ish years ago, Tailor (real name Silas, he goes by Tailor for reasons) co-founded what became a terrorist faction with his then-boyfriend and certified Hot Evil Wizard, Chess. Tailor invented guns for their group to use against enemy mages, but eventually dumped Chess for being evil, left the group and the city, and attempted redemption via essentially a whole second unrelated backstory which also ended terribly. Then he had a ten year depressive episode in a house in the woods somewhere and has only recently emerged to try to set his various fuckups right.

In the campaign: His new party members/ friends have been extremely good for him; he has a surrogate parental relationship with the young bard and our cleric has bullied him into some degree of emotional self-awareness. The party returned to the city and dunked on Chess to a sufficient degree that he's now our pet domesticated former villain and he and Tailor are tentatively back together. He's also reunited with a beloved friend from the second part of his backstory and is grappling with the effects their journey had on her. Our next quest arc is a fae masquerade ball ft. an assassination attempt against a pretender queen. Oh, also, he's got a ton of corruption magic going on that link him to a demon we need to kill. Sexy stuff!

Curse of Strahd

[Module] [BROAD COS SPOILERS] The base COS plot is that the party gets sucked from the standard high fantasy adventureland into Barovia, a claustrophobic demiplane of gothic horror bullshit ruled by store-brand Dracula Strahd von Zarovich. If you want to get out-- or just make living in Barovia a less miserable existence-- you have to kill him. We're nearly 2 years in (approaching the final phase of the adventure) on this one too!

My PC: Theodora/ Teddy, a lonely orphaned artificer and runaway ex-soldier in her early 20s

Their backstory: One of Teddy's inventions went south on the battlefield and literally blew up in her face, leaving her with gnarly black scarring (since healed) and an all-black eyeball. It also killed a bunch of people. So she ran away and had been taking refuge in a temple for a few months when a paladin and a druid walked in and started talking about forming a search party to look for missing kids in the woods...

We learned as the campaign progressed that Teddy is actually from Barovia originally, and was smuggled out as a baby because of a prophesy that Strahd would become obsessed with her. This has turned out to be because she's the latest reincarnation of a woman who dumped him a thousand years ago, hello vampire reincarnation romance bullshit

(she is also romancing Borakov, the party paladin)

In the campaign: the Teddy/ Strahd romance arc, due to obvious "we are actively plotting to kill him" reasons, came down to an ultimatum marriage proposal. Teddy sincerely accepted (and got laid, good for her), but just before the wedding, the party got the pieces of Strahd backstory they'd been missing, revealing that Strahd had lied about his relationship with Teddy's predecessor and her death. So Teddy left Strahd at the altar, hooked up with Borakov, and is now determined to either kill Strahd or disrupt the curse that keeps reincarnating her back into his grasp. Strahd, after failing to get her back, pivoted into "I'M TOTALLY OVER HER ANYWAY" and is trying to kill us all now. rip. it was fun while it lasted.

Overall, Teddy is Doing Bad. The curse means she's likely to die soon anyway, her relationship with a Dark PowerTM might be turning her into a monster, Borakov is doomed and also turning into an angel?, everyone in Barovia hates her, and her vampire boyfriend turned out to be trash. Barovia might be saved, but Teddy probably won't be.

Unearthed Remnants

[Homebrew] UR is new, but it's the first campaign in an original setting my fiance has been working on for ages called Vasara. ~1,600 years ago, in the midst of a massive war, the land cracked into pieces in a cataclysmic event called the Rend that banished magic from the world and left deep rifts in the continent that monsters tend to crawl out of. Civilization has built itself back up using technology rather than relying on magic, and though magic has slowly begun returning in the last few hundred years, it's considered dangerous and, at least in the main human kingdom, is highly regulated.

My PC: Aster, an outspoken tiefling grad student-turned-warlock. She has my best attempt at a slavic accent.

Their backstory: Aster is a nepo baby working in the historical archives in the capitol city of her kingdom. Her grandpa is on the board or something, and her parents are some of the kingdom's foremost archeologists excavating pre-Rend ruins. Aster carries on the family passion for history and is an insufferable, arrogant nerd about it. Recently she found a very strange book recovered from a ruin, and it talked to her, and maybe she wrote her name in it and did a magic ritual that required her to bleed out all over a ritual circle, and Oops! All Warlock (pact of the tome, natch)

In the campaign: At the book's behest, she traveled (*was yeeted) to a nearby farming town where she met a secretive human paladin named Clay and a friendly amnesiac pre-rend relic warforged named Sev. Investigating a strange explosion nearby, they stumbled onto an untouched pre-rend ruin with some truly wild magical shit going on that will definitely have consequences, but for now, they're headed back to the city. Clay and Aster both adore Sev but are at odds with each other-- he's basically a fantasy cop (unbeknownst to Aster, he's actually being trained by a secret mage-hunting paladin order), and she's got brand-new, super illegal, likely volatile magic she's figuring out on the fly that he clearly does not approve of. Aster's bringing "try to arrest me, I fucking dare you" energy.

Sorry, I don’t mean to be rude but I don’t think life updates should be posted to ao3. Since you have a patreon you can make a public post and share that! Plus that will get people who follow you to take a peak at your patreon. :) I know you don’t mean anything bad by it, but ao3 should really be for fanworks and most people who support your work are probably following you on some form of social media anyway. ^^

Anon, I know this was well-intentioned,so I will address the issues you have brought up as I understand them. I have a lot of subscribers who don't follow VerdantVulpus on socials - I know this, because I see their names in my comments, but not on twitter/tumblr/insta and more to the point, I’ve been explicitly told so by subscribers on ao3 asking me to post the twitter Book! Boys RP as a fic because they’re not on socials. There are a lot of people who honestly can’t stand social media. My only means of communicating with all of my subscribers is to do so via ao3.

 I'm making an assumption that the personal post you are referencing was my Fall update. I hope that’s the case anyway because otherwise I’m completely confused. I admit I did share a bit of personal information in that post but the majority of it was focussed on filling my subscribers in on my intentions for the season and assure them that I will be once again providing content after a very lengthy hiatus.That post was also tagged and summarised so I doubt anyone would have mistook it for a fic and could have easily ignored it.

I’m sure you've had the experience of reading a WIP that goes on hiatus and the author posts an update explaining what's up; that's all I was trying to accomplish, in a way that would be available to my regular readers since. 

I completely understand your view of ao3 as a fandom space. It is a wonderful source of fan art and fanfiction that just keeps on giving. However, the  site is also open to “fully original, non-fanfiction content, hosting over 185,000 such original works as of 25 October 2022,” according to their wikipedia page. I definitely looked this up back when I had frail desperate dreams of writing my own shit. Ah sweet summer days. Anyway, basically Archive of Our Own allows writers to publish any content, so long as it is legal.

It's a  might be a bit easier to justify if it's art (basically, the legal definition of "fair use" is applied more broadly to art than to writing) but regardless, posting a link to a Patreon or kofi on ao3 is a good way to get my work reported and taken down. I did go double check this to be sure and, yeah, I’m not allowed to mention or link to Patreon at all, regardless of how it's phrased, which is why I will be jogging back over to my go over my recent updates because I maaaay have around that and need to fix it immediately.

Anyway, thank you for reaching out with your pov. I don’t tend to make posts of that nature and when I do I usually intend to remove them within a week, but forgot to do so in this case so I appreciate the reminder.

Not that same anon, but someone who also had to learn the art etiquette rules: the general rule of thumb is to check the artist's own rules. Some artists ask for 0 reposting while others allow reposting with credit/link to the original art. If an artist does not say what their policy is, assume reposting is not allowed.

Many art reposting are done without the artists permission or credit (if you don't see credit or an indication of that being the original artist, chance is it was reposted without the artists premission/knowledge). Many accounts that are art posting accounts will actually get the artist permission and add that permission to the reposting. This is typically done when the artist does not have an account themselves (ie, they posted on Twitter but do not have a Tumblr).

If I missed any rules, sorry. I am not an artist either. I am just saying what I have learned via listening to other artists after doing the same thing myself years ago.

Ahhhhh! I think I get it now! Okay, okay it makes sense then. Cause I felt confused since I see a lot of art repost accounts of like??? Basic anime girls or characters I sometimes know but usually there's no credit added to the post?? But it makes sense if those who give the credit asked first!! Not all artists use the same platforms and overseas I see a lot of Japanese artists using Pixiv or Twitter as their main platforms. A few times I've seen artists post their own works on Zerochan.

Oh don't apologize!! It's not really your responsibility to run down the rules/etiquette for me so I really appreciate it! Truly I do!! It never really occurred to me that reposting was an issue since I added credits, but if all I need to do is ask the artist directly (probably with Google Translate) and they say okay then surely there's no issue after that if I use it on my fics!!

I can probably make post proof of asking and getting an OK when that happens just so I have it. Hopefully my Japanese practice and Google Translate don't let me down!! If they say no? I'll ask a different artist!!

Minor Conflict That Hast Just Been Resolved

Normally, I wouldn’t sent a mod letter separately from the others, but this one was a serious situation that needs to be brought up. Please do not contact or harass the writer of these two letters. I doubt they knew about this or even who the artist was. I knew the artist’s name, because of their signature I found on the art piece, ergo the responsibility falls on me. 

So, the anonymous whistleblower, who wrote this mod letter, brought to my attention that the artist of the fan art did not wish for their work to be reposted. This is something she posts on all her social media. 

I got the anonymous user in a personal chat with them to search for the original artist, Rica Diaz. They sent me her twitter profile where I found her email and emailed her via my Mod Edgeworth gmail I had just created for this purpose. This is what Rica sent me.

I’ve made her a promise that I will be sure to inform her the next time any one of her artwork is used on this platform. So, her work here is fair game, but don’t be surprised if it takes a while for us to answer, since we are informing her when any of her work is being sent. 

I think we should take this as a learning experience for both myself and everyone else here. Luckily, I did see Rica’s signature and credited her an hour before it was posted, but I still made a mistake by not looking into the artist herself. Before sending us any art work, make sure the artist is fine with their work being posted. If you don’t know who the artist is, search for their signature located on the art itself. In this case, here is where the signature was located.

The signature is hard to read now, but when I first got the letter, it was easy to read. The point still stands that the artist’s signature will always remain, even if their art is being reposted in another platform. When image searching this, I had only been able to find this art on Pinterest under a “Know Your Memes” account. This is why professional artists will leave their signature on their artwork. It makes it to where no one can just repost their artwork and credit themselves as the creator of the art. It’s also proof of property.

I won’t promise every fan art will have the artist’s signature, but it’s still better to search for the original artist to be absolutely sure the artist is alright with their work being posted. If they’re not, send us the link to the original art and we will  have the characters respond to the art without showing any piece of it. It will likely be whited out or else not show at all within the letter. I know, for me personally, I will be sure to search up the artist from now on and be sure they are fine with us posting their art on here. In the case of Rica Diaz, she has given us her full permission to use her art on here.
