Hi! You seem to know your way around a lot of the older zelinks so I was wondering if you have any fic recs for alttp zelink? There’s not much out there, do you know of any good stuff?
There is not a lot out there, as you said. If you're looking for strictly ALTTP, nothing really comes to mind. If you're open to fics built around the fact that Nintendo canon has stated the Link of ALTTP, OoA, OoS, and LA are all the same guy, I do have a couple fics for you!
awakening and midas touch by wizardcake on Ao3 are ones I really enjoyed. They are one shots though! No longfic here, alas
I also have a couple fics I've written myself. They are kinda connected to LU, so if you aren't really a LU fan you might want to give them a pass, but I think they can be enjoyed on their own
Like Patience on a Monument and An Apple a Day
Also under the LU umbrella is Caged, Chapter Two of Because They Aren’t Suffering Enough, a whumptober collection by @skyward-floored. It’s very good, highly recommended despite not generally being a whump reader myself.
If anyone else knows some good fics, feel free to tack on! Outside of that, I don't generally do fic requests unless it's for close friends, but I feel a little bad I wasn't able to provide you with much. So, if you wanna see something specific with ALTTP, feel free to send it into my inbox, and if I vibe with it, i'll see about whipping something up for you.

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by @zeldaelmo @nocturne-side-blog @aegon-targaryen !! Thank you all!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
59 in total, but only 46 are available to the public 😅 I think I ended up putting some of the ones I wasn't as fond of, or ones that I just didn't feel like updating ever again, to a private collection lol
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
212,020!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
hooboy.
Legend of Zelda, mainly, but also: How to Train Your Dragon, Miraculous, LOTR, 1917, MCU, Narnia, Endeavour, and a few other extremely obscure fandoms hardly anyone else is in XD
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
the faces left behind (LU which I know many people hate but I like it so don't judge lol)
Marinette Has Cookies (Of Course Chat Showed Up) (what an annoying title actually??) (Miraculous)
Just Allergies? (How to Train Your Dragon)
Juli's Tree (Flipped)
The Power of a Hot Drink (Skyward Sword)
wow I am... not good at coming up with fic titles 😂 nowadays I just pick a song lyric from a song that applies and slap it on the title but other than that they're pretty horrible 💀
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Although sometimes if there's really no way to respond to it I just mark it as read.
...also usually it takes me a while to get the motivation to reply. I've been known to take months before answering a comment 😬
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oo hm... I can't decide so instead I shall dump a handful of them
One Last Look - Skyward Sword Zelink, after that scene
Age - Sksw Zelink through the years, with a bittersweet ending
Golden Sands - this is one of the first fics I ever posted (originally posted on Wattpad... oof). but basically it's about the robot Skipper from Skyward Sword, thinking about his past life while broken and unable to move in the present.
Incomprehensible - POV of other hobbits in the Shire, unable to understand why the four Travelers act the way they do, or why eventually their number drops to three.
Regrets - Joandeavour talking about... tough things :(
Please, Ada - Babey™ Legolas wanting to hang with his father and his father does NOT want to hang with him is the happiest way I can describe it
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Take three because I'm indecisive.
Worthy - Edmund Pevensie coming to terms with the fact that he is loved
Spidey - Spideychelle being oblivious. that is all
Rainy Days - TP Zelinkkkkkk
there's definitely more but I think those are probably some of the happiest
8. Do you get hate on fics?
My fics usually have a pretty small reception so I don't think so? The most would be someone saying the plotholes of the fic were killing them which then sent me, a major overthinker, into overdrive, even though it's not that bad XD so no, thankfully, I don't think I've ever gotten any (although anon hate is another thing entirely. LOL)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
nope! don't ever plan to either
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
erm. I don't think I ever have?? I've read one or two before, but I don't believe I have ever actually written one
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so XD
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
again, idt so!!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
nope! It's a dream of mine though, Noct and I have several things planned >>>>>>:)
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
oh boy.
so
this is a tricky question
and
the answer is.
all of them
ok jokes aside I genuinely cannot narrow it down, so I'll list... my top five, I guess.
Zelink, Joandeavour, Spideychelle, Rudy/Liesel, and Hiccstrid
(Hm. Thinking about it Joandeavour is probably my favorite just because it's so heartbreakingly tragic, but Zelink is a very very very close second)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
hah.
Probably this, a fix-it Spideychelle fic that I have a lot written for but idk if I'll ever have the guts to do much else with it
16. What are your writing strengths?
d. description I guess?? I've never been a good judge at what I'm good at XD
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I tend to be a bit Victor Hugo-esque with my sentences, aka I have to control myself so the sentence doesn't stretch on for five paragraphs
and we don't talk about my old fics <3
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I mean? For LOTR I would definitely sprinkle in elvish just for the vibe of it, also because he did so, but I would also provide translations. For real-world...hmm. I think I did throw in three or four German words in The Book Thief fic I posted recently, but again, the author himself did so, and I think so long as you're not adding a full, necessary sentence that the reader is then required to look up in order to understand what's going on, and if you instead just use a curse word or a muttered phrase of annoyance or something in the other language, I think that's fine.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
LOTR, I believe. Hand-written in seventh or eighth grade XD
(And then I wrote dozens of unfinished Loz fics in the notes app on my mom's ancient phone she didn't use anymore, fics that completely misunderstood any of the games because I hadn't played them yet. It pains me to think about those fics).
(also this is not counting those "add on to the end of the story!" assignments teachers used to give out in middle school)
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
oh hot dang lemme see
againnnn we are doing several (look my decision making has been ATROCIOUS lately, I cannot be faulted <3)
you feel like home - SkSw Zelink, a teeny tiny bit of angst but mostly fluff (also Link nearly throws hands with Scrapper which is a bonus. When I tell you I cranked that fic out in a day after getting so salty with Scrapper I nearly snapped my wiimote in half)
would I run off the world someday - a very recent TP Zinc fic!! It has traces of Midlink; essentially, it's about Link refusing to stop grieving Midna, and thus hurting himself and Zelda, who is in love with him due to having shared a soul with Midna. It's basically a 4+1 fic and does end happy with the promise of future Zelink, very different from my normal Zelink stuff though
annnd...
Forbidden - Zinc week fic that didn't get as much attention as my other two ZW fics, but I actually really really love it so. <3 I just. idk I love the prose of that fic, I suppose :) and the ending hehe
I do have a few other favorites but I think it's unfair to include them because they're unfinished lol

Interview With The Writer
Thank you @cyraclove and @fatefulfaerie for tagging me! I love these kinds of tags.
Name: Bella
Fandoms: The Legend of Zelda
Where you post: Currently AO3 and Wattpad
Most popular oneshot: Probably Checkmate
Most popular multichapter: On Wattpad, To Forgive (but I wrote that 2-3 years ago so don’t... don’t read it)
Favorite story you’ve written so far: Where the Flowers Grow because I like where it’s going even though I haven’t updated in 2 million years
Fic you were nervous to post: Checkmate. It was my first Tumblr request and I wanted to do well!
How you choose your titles: I take out a quote or just find a phrase/word that fits
Do you outline? Ha... outlining... funny
Complete: 2 multichapters and numerous oneshots.
In Progress: My current multichapter Where the Flowers Grow and always more oneshots (which are added to my oneshot collection Flowers)
Coming soon: Some ideas I have yet to be fruition, such as a short fic and a longer one
Prompts: I haven’t really done any prompts (if you don’t count requests), but I’m looking forward to any sort of upcoming Zelink set I can contribute to. (If you know of any HMU)
Upcoming work you’re most excited about: My longer fic mentioned in the coming soon question because I think it’ll turn out really awesome
Tagging: @k8tys @quillandink333 and anyone else that would like to since I don’t have many to tag. If you were already tagged or don’t do tags, sorry for tagging you, as usual!

Which zelda is your fav? Why? (This is full on permission if you wish to write a like, 30 page cited essay on it, i wanna read)
Anon this is such a loaded question you have no idea <\3 I love the zelda series so much and I've played it for so long that my favourites all kind of blur together. I was thinking I could tell you what my favourite aspects of my top 5 games are though lol? I would love to write a cited essay for you but I am basically illiterate hehe
Anyway so because I can't pick one here are five
Minish cap:
for a long time I said minish cap was my #1 favourite game! I love that it's a Gameboy game with that early 2000's pixel graphics it's so cute <3 and I loved the gameplay of big/small (it has that classic overworld/underworld Zelda feel) along with collecting the kinstones, it was so charming. I'm always really obnoxious about it on Tumblr because I think it's massively underrated and more people should play it! Also ezlo is a good companion and he reminds me the most of Midna!!
Twilight princess:
um is this not every single persons guilty pleasure game ?? It's so good. It's just. So good. People call it edgy and trying too hard to be Majora's mask but at the end of the day it was a solid and fun Zelda game that I love so much !! How can you not love turning into a wolf. How can you not love midna. I think it has a great plot twist and some of the mechanisms were really fun. The fact that you can hold cats is a huge highlight for me as well. Also I think I should mention that I don't ship anything in loz it's not that kind of fandom for me but I do enjoy a little midzel....as a treat
A Link Between World's:
i LOVE this game !!!!!! It was a breath of fresh air while also being a sequel to alttp? Botw 2 could never (we'll see).. I think albw brought back that classic loz feel while still being its own unique game! I thought ravio and Hilda were so loveable and they deserve so much more attention then they get. This while game in general deserved a lot more love. It's a favourite for me because the wall puzzles were so simple and clever n just so much fun!!!! I think I could write an entire essay about albw if I wanted to there's so much to commend!!
Skyward sword:
ok I know I said twilight princess was my guilty pleasure favourite but skyward sword is ALSO that. I'm replaying it atm and when the music started playing I teared up it's such an emotional game for me. The fact that it came out almost a decade ago?? Insane. I used to watch skyward sword zelink AMVs in 2011 so this game is crazy nostalgic for me lmao. I know people have a problem with the gameplay but I just think once you get over it it's such a fun and rewarding game? The plot is my favourite of all zelda games. I enjoyed actually having a relationship with zelda, it made me more motivated to play through the game because I wanted to save her <3 also it's low-key my favourite soundtrack (tied w wind waker) so like to all the people who don't like skyward sword- it's a good game i swear you just have to open your heart to it
Wind waker:
OBVIOUSLY wind waker is on this list it's a MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!! The MUSIC the ART STYLE the CHARACTERS !!!!!!!!!!! Anyone here give me one good reason why you don't like ww I dare you. Wind waker is the most fufilling and beautiful games I've ever played. It's beautiful it's gorgeous it's wonderful. Tetra is such a delight and ganondorf actually has a backstory and good dialogue!!! AMAZING!!!!!!! a really strong plot and interesting underworld/overworld dynamic. I love wind waker omg
Majora's Mask:
So I had to pick between Majora's and ocarina and honestly I think I do like mm more? I've only ever played it all the way through twice but I love how the whole game is dependant on how you interact with the side quests. Both times I played I made sure to get every mask because to me it just feels so fufilling to know I am getting the most out of the story. And like for every edgy game that has ever come out...mm did it first. It was creepy it was anxiety inducing but it did it so well. It didn't feel forced at all and I think it's my favourite game I've ever played that has a time dynamic to it. It feels so good to watch the credits of Majora's mask and see everyone be happy! Its a lot more unconventional hero in Majora's mask because I don't feel good for defeating majora I feel good for helping all these characters who I got to know. It's a good game I think everyone should try playing it but I can acknowledge it's not everyone's cup of tea
Anyway that was definitely six not five but I couldn't leave any of them out they're all so important to me !! I've played a myriad of other zelda games that didn't make the cut but trust me I also love them. I'm sorry this is the worst answer to your very specific question haha but hopefully it's not too boring. Feel free to tell me what your favourite game(s) is I'd love to hear. If ppl make it to the end of this you should reply with ur fave game and why! I'd love to read them :)

I was tagged by @wangxianbunnydoodles (oh my, this is long and you might regret it; also I don’t follow instructions well 😉). I tend not to be very good at these things (sorry to anyone else who has tagged me in these kinds of things before—this is a rare event happening mostly because I wanna talk about Tolkien books and ships) but here goes:
Top 3 Ships
I don’t actively ship characters that often. I’m not sure why that is. I do enjoy reading fic with pairings either canon or not, but I don’t often go “all in” on ships in most narratives I consume. There are notable exceptions (more than three but these are the three most recent—I have no idea how to identify my top ships):
WangXian (CQL). This is surely obvious from the current state of my blog, right? I blame The Untamed and its impossibly tender, only-subtextual-by-a-hair’s-breadth romance. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show express ultimate devotion, deep affection, true appreciation, complete understanding (eventually), and the sheer *necessity of the other* between two people quite like this one has. Hell, I don’t think I’ve ever seen two characters and desperately wanted them together and happy as much as I have these two, so bravo to the cast and crew for generating such second-hand devotion in me.
Silvergifting (Tolkien). This is all @thearrogantemu’s fault. I’d read some Silvergifting before I read These Gifts That You Have Given Me, mostly out of curiosity (some good stuff, too!), but I had never read any Tolkien fic that convinced me it was *true* (on many, many levels, though the ship level is the one pertinent to this post). In any canon-like universe this ship hurts, but in the Gifts universe it hurts the most; it hurts like Hell. It hurts in the way only razor-sharp, sorry-the-universe-works-this-way, oh-are-those-my-entrails-on-the-floor-I-didn’t-even-feel-the-knife tragedy can hurt. And it’s so convincing that it’s just...a fact now. Tolkien just forgot to tell us. So now I ship Silvergifting, but most deeply, specifically THAT Silvergifting. (Meanwhile, 14 year old me continues to look at *significantly* older me like I’m insane.)
ZeLink (Legend of Zelda). Deep down I’m still 12 years old and no amount of fine lines and wrinkles is going to change that. When is Breath of the Wild 2 coming out?
Last Song
I listen to soundtracks and bombastic and dramatic orchestral pieces much more often than I listen to what people mean when they say “songs,” and a significant chunk of the “songs” I listen to are from musicals/operas.
Earlier today it was Hanz Zimmer’s soundtrack to Dark Phoenix (don’t start me up on the continuing disappointment that Phoenix adaptations continue to be to me—you don’t want to hear it; even I don’t want to hear it).
Before that it was Barbra Streisand’s The Broadway Album. (I prefer her outer space cover of “Somewhere” to the actual thing. Fight me.)
Before that it was Carmina Burana (One of my favorite things ever was when we went to a live performance of Carmina Burana and a boy who couldn’t have been more than 7 years old sat in the aisle in front of us and head-banged enthusiastically through “O Fortuna.” It was so metal. You go, kid. You get it.).
Before that it was a splattering of Billy Joel hits with emphasis on “2000 Years”, “River of Dreams”, “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”, “The Stranger”, and “Only the Good Die Young” (thanks to that outstanding WangXian interpretation!).
Of course the soundtracks to The Untamed/CQL have been on repeat for weeks around here, particularly every single iteration of “WuJi” and the flute-heavy instrumental pieces (man, those are good!).
Not long ago I had Sarah Brightman’s covers of “Figlio Perduto” from La Luna and “Glosoli” and “One Day Like This” from Dreamchaser burning through my iPhone battery (yes, I like popera).
Enya, and especially Shepherd Moons and The Track Which Shall Not Be Named has been on repeat a lot.
Last Movie
I don’t sit down to watch movies that often any more. It just takes too much stillness and undivided attention and more resistance to multi-tasking than I have. The actual last movie that I watched (in a “have it on on another screen while I work” kind of way) was Raiders of the Lost Ark, which, of course, I’ve seen umpteen times and which followed a similar rewatch of the Back to the Future trilogy. The last movie I watched completely without distraction was Book Smart; I don’t watch comedies very often, but I really enjoyed it in an “OMG, I can totally relate to this” kind of way (except for the class president thing—that would have required that I interact with other people my own age and also not be homeschooled). Before that I think it was the Tolkien biopic. Man, I still haven’t written anything about that.
Currently Reading (in order of when I started them)
Oh dear.
The Familiar: part 1, Mark Z Danielewski. *sigh* For as much as I think Danielewski is brilliant and House of Leaves is one of my favorite books ever, I’ve just not been able to get into much of his other work. It’s universally a time and energy investment to penetrate and puzzle through, and I just don’t have as much of that as I used to. House of Leaves makes that investment worth it from early on and is absolutely a page-turner once you settle in, but other than The Fifty Year Sword I’ve just not been able to get into the rest of his work. The Familiar: part 1 is supposed to be the first in a 26 part series which is currently halted at part 4, I think. Without a guarantee of all parts ever being published, I don’t think I’m ready to invest more time into part 1 and may end up abandoning it, unfortunately.
History of The Hobbit, Douglas Anderson. Anderson did what Christopher didn’t and gave The Hobbit the HoMe treatment (if a bit less literal and opaque in format). It’s fascinating (I mean, there’s the Beren and Luthien name drop you were not expecting right there in the first draft), but reading essentially the same passages with only small changes over and over can be a slog, so reading it has been an ongoing project for over a year now.
Splintered Light: Logos and Language in Tolkien’s World, Verlyn Fleiger. This is Fleiger’s look at Tolkien’s Middle-earth in light of his association with Owen Barfield. Particularly, she is examining Tolkien’s work in conjunction with Barfield’s Poetic Diction and his thoughts on language and meaning. I have not read Poetic Diction, but I probably will now since it apparently addresses language formation as related to the origin of human consciousness which is SO up my alley.
New Seeds of Contemplation, Thomas Merton. My late sister-in-law had a masters in theology from Notre Dame and became a huge Merton fan. Meanwhile, my best friend actually spent a weekend retreat at The Abbey of Gethsemani. Between hearing about him from the two of them, I developed an interest in Merton. I happened to read “Moral Theology of the Devil” a couple of years ago. It was one of the most illuminating theological things I have read and deeply inspired my own Tolkien fic-writing (let’s just say the progress there is otherwise slow). This book is a collection of pieces which happens to contain that piece, and I’ve been skipping around through it for a while now.
The Lord of the Rings reread (Tolkien, obviously). I hate this, but I am so deep in so many critical Tolkien books that I’ve not had the chance to really sit down and relax into my reread for months and months and will likely just end up starting over. Plus I want to read it concurrently with the next entry in this list and the next entry is taking longer to get through because of its format. That entry being:
The Lord of the the Rings: A Reader’s Companion, Hammond and Scull. This is a treasure trove of data and insights for those really wanting to dig critically-historically into The Lord of the Rings on a chapter-by-chapter, passage-by-passage basis. The only issue with it is that jumping back and forth between the two (as you have to: this is a reference book) tends to kill the mood of The Lord of the Rings when read as it’s meant to be read: for enjoyment!
The Power of Limits: Proportional Harmonies in Nature, Art, and Architecture, Gyorgy Doczi. This has been an ongoing read here and there since Christmas, especially as I work on two personal projects.
The Gospel in a Pluralist Society, Lesslie Newbigin. To be honest I don’t think I am going to finish this one. I like a few of the things he says, things I think are truthful and which need to be confronted in American Christian culture in particular, but it’s just too much Calvin for my taste, too many assumptions I do not share being the heretic that I am, and I spend too much time anger-notating about theology to read it with grace.
In Full Measure I Return to You, thearrogantemu. This is a reread of the (relatively) happy AU fic for my most favoritest Tolkien fic (Gifts), but I’ve put my reread on hold while I finish one of the two projects, after which I am diving in and screw the rest of this list for the time being.
Food Craving
Sushi. My kingdom for some good sushi. I’ve only had sushi once since we got back from NY and while it was the best sushi I have had locally IT WAS NOT OMAKASE AT SUSHI NOZ. It also didn’t require a personal loan to pay for, but *shrug* I’m spoiled now and will forever crave what I can no longer have.
People I’d Like To Get To Know Better
I hate tagging people in these things because I’m awkward and shy and do them so rarely myself that it feels hypocritical for me to ask it of others. That being said: if you’re a follower of my blog and you want to do this, please do! And please tag me! I’d love to get to know more about you 😊.

Okay since seeing the trailer for the new Zelda game, I’ve been really wanting to read some more really good BOTW fanfic. Do you have any suggestions where they have some length to them? Also fics where link and Zelda are raising a family??
Truth be told, I haven’t read many BotW fics, if any, but I’ll compile some here after some searching! There are quite a few here that seem interesting to me or had plenty of kudos.
Please check all of the tags and heed the warnings before starting a fic!
Super long fics (wc: 200k+)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
T | Novelization | Slow Burn | wc: 473k | Complete
“But courage need not be remembered… for it is never forgotten.”Though struggling with both the loss of memory and the incredible weight of past failure, Link must find a way to recover what has been lost and bring hope back to the land of Hyrule. An epic fantasy-style novelization of Breath of the Wild.Complete, with afterword and deleted scenes!
Champions and Beasts
T | Series | 2 works | Slow Burn | Post-canon | wc: 311k | complete
Hyrule is a strange place, is it not? It has no history, only legends. It has no true heroes, only colossi who have wielded its fate in their hands. The Champions, and the Beasts; the wise, the strong, and the brave. And yet, we are always either recovering from war or preparing for it. How much longer can we endure, I wonder? How much longer can we step through this dance?
In a world this vast, being a hero isn’t always easy.
Champions and Beasts is a Breath of the Wild series that takes a darker and more political look at the world of Hyrule, both before and after the Calamity. Legends are long past, history is mostly lost, the wilds are dangerous but perhaps not as dangerous as the ambitions of its inhabitants; and with Calamity either just over the horizon or still a lingering nightmare, the Hyruleans must fight to attain peace.
This work is centered around Link and Zelda, and their evolving relationship both before and after the Calamity.
Currently there are only two Parts planned (From the Ground Up and The Ballad’s Beginning) but I am considering a third installment!
One Last Year
T | Post-canon | wc: 215k | Complete
Zelda vows to help Link remember the events that lead them to their hard-won victory. In doing so, they must delve together into a shared past and seek to untangle their feelings, their grief and their youthful frustrations to find the things they could control… and the things they couldn’t.
“I don’t know how to remember. Time passes, but nothing comes to my mind… Except you. You’re the key,” Link said, softly. “You have to be.”
A Breath of the Wild fic about Link, Zelda, and the memories that bind them.
Ironic Technology
Rating varies | Series | Contains both gen/romance | Canon/Post-canon | wc: 242k | Complete
Ironic Technology is a series where Link loses an arm after a tricky situation with two Guardians, luckily, he is able to receive a prosthesis made of Ancient Technology from his Sheikah allies. He continues on to complete all of the Shrines, meeting his friends from the four nations along the way, before he’s finally ready to take on Ganon with his tech upgrade. Moves into slice of life events with Link and Zelda living together working through their issues with each others support. Very little angst, mostly positive fluff and humour with Zelink throughout.
(A/N Originally I wasn’t going to have DLC2 content but it was a good ancient tech expansion, so expect that in ‘Trial and Error’ which will be rated ’M’ folks!)
The Destiny Collection
T | Series | Slow burn | Pre/Post-canon | wc: 225k | Complete
A collection for the little BotW universe I’ve created.
Not all stories directly follow one another! At least one spin-off is to be expected.
Long Fics (wc: 100k-200k)
Adrift in Time and Skyward Bound
E | Explicit language and sexual content | wc: 132k | Last updated 11/10/18
Link is her appointed knight. He will do anything and everything to protect her. Always. All ways. BotW. ZeLink. Loosely based on the original storyline.
Love in a Time of Calamity
M | Slow burn | Canon divergence | Post-canon | wc: 125k | Last updated 03/04/19
Zelda awakens her powers in time to defeat Ganon, but there are still major losses. With Central Hyrule in pieces, two champions dead, a king out of commission, and half a metropolitan city turned refugees, Zelda and Link struggle to come to grips with the aftermath of the Calamity. Though neither are prepared, they must nonetheless learn to navigate a turbulent political landscape while a snooping journalist, an overzealous artist, and a power-hungry nobleman’s machinations turn their already topsy-turvy world on its head. Though the Calamity has been defeated, recovery proves a battle all its own; and that’s not even considering the battle raging in both their hearts. BoTW ZeLink AU.
Trouble the Water
Rating varies | Series | Pre/During/Post-canon | wc: 156k | complete
Excerpt from the first entry:
An expansion of canon: a look at why the memories might have happened where and when they occurred (with one slight change in order) and an attempt to fill-in the events and conversations alluded to by diary entries and conversations in-game.“You were a comfort to her,” in particular, needed to be expanded upon, I thought.Begins shortly before the first journal entry in Zelda’s diary, and continues to the immediate aftermath of the last memory.First person: Zelda’s perspective
Still a bit long fics (wc: 50k-100k)
I’ll Walk With You
T | Post-canon | wc: 94k | Complete
‘The battle is over, the Calamity has ended, and everything you knew and loved is gone for good. And yeah, you can’t ever get it back, but… maybe we don’t have to. The path in front of us may be long and uncertain, but it leads to something new, and… Zelda, no matter how hard it gets, I’ll be right here. And I’ll walk with you.’
A collection of moments involving our favorite Hero and Princess as they struggle to adapt. Post-BotW.
It All Must Start With Us

Day 9 Zelink Month 2018. Prompt: Closed Doors.
Why did he have to go and fall in love with that girl? With Princess Zelda of all people? Link kept thinking when his attention should have been on the two giant moblins, carrying equally large spears, patrolling this particular hallway, ready to charge at anyone who dared trespass on their master's grounds.
However, he was, at the moment, safe around the corner of that hallway. He paused to think about how to advance. He could shoot one moblin, but would he be fast enough to load and launch another arrow? Yet, when he started to think of a strategy, thoughts of her popped in his mind.
It wasn't completely random, of course. He was here to rescue her.
Her.
A newfound fury roared inside him. Drawing back his bowstring he leap out of his hiding spot to face his enemies. He shot and took down the first moblin. The second moblin, though shocked, readied to charge. Link pulled out his hookshot and fired it at the remaining enemy, eliminating the threat.
The action of battle clashed with his memories of her soft skin and delicate touch. Though, for different reasons, both made his heart rush.
Forward, he made his way deeper into the dungeon, so deep that water tickled down the walls. It made him think of Zora’s Domain.
He first told her he loved her there. She, overtaken by his sincerity, initially tried to dismiss his confession, claiming he was just enamored by their lovely surroundings. He admitted while it was pretty, with the moon shining on the sparkling clear water around them, it was nowhere near as beautiful as her.
The warmth of the kiss she gave him took away all of the chill from the night air.
In the dungeon, ropes slithered across the damp floor towards him. One lunged to bite only to sliced by his sword. It caught the attention of the others and they advanced.
One time he recalled being in the stables, brushing his horse, when he saw the Princess walking with the King and a few other noblemen. They were looking over the livestock at the ranch. Link wanted to say ‘'hi” to the Princess, but felt intimidated by the powerful men accompanying her.
Still, he paused his brushing to admire her. The Princess possessed this quiet dignity and regal beauty that couldn't help but make you smile. Or at least, that’s how he felt.
Seeing them walking closer to the stables, he went back to his task.
“Are you enjoying this outing, Princess?” He heard one of the noblemen.
“I am. Thank you for asking,” she said with all the charm and grace he came to expect from her.
He looked out the corner of his eye as they passed and saw her pleasant smile.
She moved her head to the side towards the King, but did a double take when she saw him.
She let out an ecstatic gasp. “Link?” Without missing a beat, she broke away from the group, who were also surprised by her actions, and hurried over to him. “You’re here,” she said with the biggest and warmest smile on her face.
She also caught him by surprise. “H-hey…”
His awkwardness caused her to happily giggle and rock her shoulders back and forth. “It’s so good to see you.”
And he could only nod as the Princess continued to gaze upon him with fondness. Even when the King inquired if she knew this man, she didn't take her eyes off him
“Uh huh,” she answered dreamily.
It was then Link notice how everyone was staring at him: At the one who caused the usually reserved Princess to act like a cute schoolgirl. Not just a schoolgirl, but a girl in love.
Link easily dispatched the ropes and he pressed on in the dim hallways. He approached a closed door made of stone and looked for a handle, a knob, or even a groove, to open it. He felt around. Nothing. He examined the room and only saw torches on the walls. He went about nudging them, hoping to activate a trigger. Nothing...again. He gave a frustrated sigh. She could have easily lifted those doors open with her magic.
He took his sword out and tapped the blunt end at the wall to the right. Pretty solid. He then walked over and tapped the wall on the left. Oh, that had an echo. He pulled out a bomb, lit it, and ran to the other side of the room to couch with his shield up.
The blast shook the room, knocking dust from the decrepit ceiling, and left an open passageway for Link.
He remembered an ordinary day. It was still a hour or so till sunset. He had just gotten home and was about to unlock the door to his apartment when he heard her.
“Good evening, Link.”
He turned his head and smiled at the sight of her. “Hey, you.” He walked over to her, adjusted the bag hanging off his shoulder, and pulled her into a hug.
She pulled him tighter and sighed happily. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too, darlin’.” He pulled away slightly and gave her a brief kiss. “It’s nice when you can come down from the castle for a visit,” he said, caressing her cheek.
Her smile faltered and she leaned into her hand. “I’m sorry I can’t visit more often.”
To be truthful, he wished she could, too. But, that was life sometimes. “Hey, it’s alright. You’re a busy gal and I’m reckon you have plenty to do at the castle.” Her sad expression didn’t change and so he tried a different tactic. “Hey, you hungry? I heard Barten’s got a special going on.”
She pulled back and made a disgusted face, followed by a gagging sound. “You know I hate that place.
He did. “What?” He smirked at her. “You sure you just ain’t spoiled by that fancy, rich people grub?”
She shook her head and playfully smack his arm. “Drop your bag off and let’s go.” She gently turned him around and pushed him towards his door. “Not to Barten’s,” she added pointedly.
He chucked his bag in his apartment, grinning all the way. Once he locked up, he offered his arm and she accepted. They had a lovely time.
The blast in the dungeon had awoken the hanging keeses from their slumber. He dealt with them as he made his way through the make-shift passage. It took him to a storage room. He glanced in a crate, hoping to find a bomb to replace the one he used.
He saw the shadow on the wall first, before he heard scaly claws on the stone floor, trying to sneak up on him.
In a blink of an eye he turned around, shield drawn, and knocked back the descending scimitar of a Lizalfos.
It gave a high-pitched squeal and scattered to collect its discarded weapon. Then it barked out, calling in a second Lizalfos.
With sword in hand, Link prepared to fight. He lifted his shield again, as the second one started to breath fire. The first one used this opportunity to attack from the side.
He considered her his dearest friend and, in times like this, his most trusted ally. She would have used her magic to ensnare the first Lizalfos in a barrier or release a blast of wind to send it flying right smack against the wall.
Not that he couldn’t handle a couple of Lizalfos, like the now slain ones by his feet. Still, he rubbed his sore arm; having the help saved on his wear and tear. Just like he could build a house by himself, he’d want help.
A house.
One time he told her he wished he could just build them a house and they could live there, raise a family, and grow old together.
He remembered the tears welling up in her eyes before she wrapped her arms around him. Trying so hard not to cry, she told him she wanted to be with him for as long as possible.
What was he wanted to say, right at that moment, was: “How about the rest of our lives?” However, he had a feeling it would scare her away. So, he didn't.
‘Possible’ came sooner than they wanted.
He made his way forward in the dungeon till he found himself on the other side of the closed door, with the switch right next to it. Shaking his head, he took a step to head towards the next room. Then decided to activate the switch. Might as well make their escape more efficient.
The gurgling sound of a Like-Like jolted him out of his thoughts. Link whipped around and saw the thing oozing towards him. Without hesitation, he pulled out his sword and started hacking merciless at the gelatinous monster.
He learned his lesson the very first time he encountered a Like-Like. The sword that Like-Like ate was expensive but this sword, no, this sword was irreplaceable: It was the only thing that could save her.
He’d seen her split the very ground open and hurled lava down on the monsters attacking them. A woman who simply walked out into a raging storm, and it calmed into a gentle rain. And yet, her magic was no match for the Demon King, the one called Ganon. That thing marched right up and kidnapped her.
It scared him how much power that monster had. Still, even realising that, when he heard about her abduction he was ready to charge right into battle, with just the ordinary sword on his back.
Luckily, Impa found and stopped him before he could carry out his foolhardy, and certainly fatal, course of action. It was then she told him about his true destiny, about how he was to save not only the woman he loved but all of Hyrule.
In that humbling moment, the fury in his raging heart calmed down and he was able to form a plan with Impa.
Link looked at the Master Sword, the result of all that planning. He went through a lot of trouble for this thing and he wished his love knew acquiring it was the only thing delaying his arrival, not their heart-wrenching breakup.
With a flick of his arm, he flung off the excess gunk from the Like-Like before sheathing the Master Sword. He would save her. He would save her and eliminate that giant boar of a monster. “I’m almost there, darlin’.” And he continued deeper into the dungeon.

Zelink Month Day 11 (a day late because yesterday was SUPER busy)!
Week 2: The Flow of Time is Always Cruel...
Day 11: Somewhere, Together
“You know, I never thought I would be able to get close to fireflies like this without them noticing me.”
Zelda’s quiet voice fell into the calming sounds of the night with ease. A gentle breeze rustled leaves on the trees, frogs croaked in the creek nearby, and crickets sang their night time tune while she and Link padded around in the grass collecting her favorite glowing bugs. She was wearing her new Sheikah clothing for the first time, and it was absolutely incredible how the smooth fabric seemed to muffle her every move while the color blended her in with the darkness of the night. She stood less than a foot from a group of fireflies, as she had done several times that night, and reached out with cupped hands.
“I did it!” she squealed a moment later, springing up. The fireflies around her immediately scattered, but she hopped giddily over to Link and crouched down next to where he sat in the grass. “I caught another one!”
Wearing a simple smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes—the only one he’d been giving her as of late—the knight said nothing and opened up the jar for her to add the newest addition to their collection of fireflies. The jar was starting to look rather full, she thought. Soon they would have enough to give the Great Fairy Cotera so she could bestow her strengthening abilities on Zelda’s new clothing.
“You know,” Zelda whispered as Link put the cap back on, “I once watched you catch a firefly right before my eyes, and I thought that your ability to sneak up on them was incredible.” She giggled, “I never expected to be able to do it myself.”
He smiled again and this time it was even less convincing. “You are capable of many things, Princess.”
Princess, she repeated in her head with a sigh. Though she still didn’t like how things were, she felt much calmer now than she had in the last few weeks. Where him calling her Princess nearly pained her previously, she now only felt a slight sadness. Where his bitter smile had been absolutely heartbreaking before, it now only strengthened her resolve.
“I want you to call me Zelda.” The knight visibly stilled for a moment before looking at her hesitantly. She smiled the warmest of smiles as she sat down beside him, drawing a knee up to her chest. “It is my name,” she reminded him.
“To not call you by your title would be a disrespect,” he mumbled, and she could clearly tell that he didn’t honestly believe that.
“Actually, I don’t know that it really is my title anymore,” she replied. Zelda watched the fireflies float about them in peace as she spoke, admiring the way the bugs didn’t discern between them and the rest of the night air. “Technically, with my father gone, I would be queen, but that certainly doesn’t feel right. Hyrule has spent 100 years governing itself, so my position as royalty has very much taken a step back. I don’t plan to abandon the throne by any means, and I will step up as queen if or when the people want me to. But the way I’m living right now is much more akin to a normal citizen than a leader.”
“Princess, I…”
“Besides,” she continued. “I really want you to use my name.” She looked at him again then and he looked away, hard expression mulling in conflict. “I can be content with everyone else in the world calling me Princess or Queen or Your Majesty for the rest of my life, but I want you to call me Zelda.”
When he didn’t answer, just sat there in unease, she finally decided it was time to bring up the topic she had wanted to discuss all night.
“Link,” she began, “I heard you talking in your sleep last night.” He looked at her out of the corner of his eye, blonde brows knit together in silent question. “You were asking Link to forgive you.” Then realization and concern crossed his face, but he said nothing. “Please tell me,” she whispered softly.
Link looked away again, idly watching the fireflies. He was silent for a time after that, the only sounds between them the rustling of the grass and the chirping of the crickets. But this silence felt different. It was far more bearable than the ones they had shared lately, and Zelda could wait patiently while he thought. If it meant finally receiving an answer at the end of it.
“I can feel his love for you,” he whispered, tone solemn. She had been watching a single firefly form figure eights around its friends, but she immediately turned her gaze to him. The knight’s eyes were hard and unfocused as he stared off into the trees, knees drawn up and elbows resting over them leisurely. “The Link that I was before I lost my memories. He cared for you, adored you, in a way he didn’t feel toward anyone else.” He turned, meeting her gaze then with an unyielding expression. “And I know that you loved him too. I can see it in your face, hear it in your voice, every time you remember him. But…” He looked away again, eyes drifting down in sorrow. “I’m not him.”
Link paused and Zelda had to swallow down a lump in her throat. She could feel the beginnings of tears threatening at the corners of her eyes but she blinked them away and waited on his words.
“Even when I hadn’t met you yet, I could always feel his love for you. It was the first thing I felt when I woke up to your voice. It surged forth every time I remembered something about you. And when we defeated Ganon and I finally saw you…” This time when those blue eyes turned to her, they held an admiration like no other. It held her, caressed her, showered her in warmth. And then it left, giving way to a melancholy sigh. “Everything that he was is now part of who I am, including that love. But the thing is that since then, I…” he trailed off, hesitantly looking back and forth between her eyes. “I’ve grown to love you too. And I don’t know if it’s because it’s just his love calling out every time I see you, or if I really… If it’s me who’s…”
He pressed his lips together in frustration, unsure of how to finish the sentence. He eventually gave up, breaking eye contact again and reaching a hand up to rub the back of his neck. “But the thing is, regardless of where the feelings came from, they’re there. They’re present and they come out every time I see you smile. Every time I hear you speak…” He trailed off and soft smile on his lips made her stomach flutter before it was lost to his anguish once again. “But I didn’t want to tell you because I can’t help but think…that if I did, I would be taking advantage of the love you already shared with him.”
The two sat in silence for a while after that. Link didn’t seem to have any more to say, and Zelda wasn’t sure what to say for the longest time. So they just…sat. And watched the fireflies.
“Link,” she eventually heard herself say. “Do you love me?”
His answer was immediate. “Yes.” Then, after a moment of thought, “But I don’t know if that’s more me or—,”
She shushed him by raising a finger in his direction, eyes still fixed on the bugs. “Do you love me?” she repeated.
“Yes.”
Zelda smiled, a glow blooming inside her to match the creatures she so admired. “Then it doesn’t matter where your feelings come from. They can be yours or his, or a mix of them both. It doesn’t change the fact that you, whoever you are, love me, here and now.” She finally turned, and this time, she shifted her whole body so that she was fully facing him. Watching her in wonder, he did the same. “Just like it doesn’t matter who you are—whether you’re the Link I knew before, or if he’s only a part of you—because whoever you are, I love you, here and now.”
Those blue eyes widened the slightest bit as he gazed back at her in amazement and curiosity. Most importantly, those hints of anguish, conflict, discomfort, and sorrow that he had carried with him constantly over the last few weeks were nowhere to be seen.
“You do?”
Her knee bumped his as she leaned forward, reaching a hand out to tuck some hair behind his ear. She nodded. “I started thinking of you as someone separate from him a while ago. You’re similar, and you stir up those same emotions in me that he used to, but my feelings for you are so much more.” She sat back then, and with a deep breath and straight back, looked him square in the eye. “So Link,” she said in a soft tone, “I want to ask you one more time. What do you want?”
At first, he simple stared in wide-eyed amazement. Then, the smallest of smiles very slowly inched across his lips. He was the one to reach out this time, closing the gap between them as he cradled her hands in his palms.
“I want to be with you, wherever you go.” She laced her fingers through his. “Whether as your knight or your friend, or more, I want to be by your side. We can be anywhere, as long as we’re somewhere, together.” He paused, and the smile he donned spoke to the freeing power of just saying those words out loud. “And you…Zelda?” She giggled, loving the sound of her name on his tongue. “What do you want?”
Clasping his hands in hers, she leaned forward, pressing her forehead against his.
“I want you.”

favourite time of year: Autumn. I can’t do heat or cold, and my springtime allergies make the spring not great.
comfort food: spaghetti. and soup - i love making soup.
do you collect something: books. books books books. novels and notebooks. >.> also stuffed animals.
favourite drink: coffee and tea. and fall drink - if you’ve seen that post floating around tumblr. i normally reblog it every fall xD
favourite song: i can’t pick just one. it honestly depends on my mood. i can’t even pick an all time fav. ummmm.... anything from the spice world album, or avril lavigne’s let go album. ‘your song’, ‘can you feel the love tonight’, ‘circle of life’ by elton john, ‘shut up and dance’ will always get me singing.
current favourite song: currently obsessed with The Amazing Devil. Their entire Ruin and The Horror and the Wild albums own my soul. i cannot pick just one, they all make me cry because holy hell that music punches me in the feelings.
favourite fic: hahahahahaha you want me to pick ONE? i’ve been reading fic for a loooong time, i have MANY, and it completely depends on the fandom. Most of my favs are old. Early fav is The Mellon Chronicles, an old lotr series by Cassia and Siobhan. it’s one of those series that had its own website, which, sadly, died years and years ago. someone archived it on ao3 though, and i HIGHLY recommend it. it was probably one of the first fic series i ever read. i will never get over the loss of the fanfics of the mellon chronicles that were also on that site, and weren’t part of what got archived. With Starlight In Their Wake by Wintermoth. it’s a whole series and i love it, it’s one of my go-tos to reread when i’m really feeling that need for a good doctor-rose fic. Parallel Symphony and Parallel Hearts by Firebird-X. absolutely fantastic zelda/smash brothers fic. the first picks up where Ocarina of Time left off, and the sequel does the same with Twilight Princess.  Time Cannot Erase/Among the Ashes/The Last Door by CallistoHime. another zelda/smash bros fic series, and it’s actually what first got me interested in fire emblem. the most complete form is on deviantART, but she hasnt updated in around a decade.  Fortitude by Ingie. one of the first fics i ever read. i need to reread it because there’s a sequel. it’s another one on FFN and deviantART - dA is the better place to read it though since there’s art of it. you want zelink angst? this gives you ANGST :) Poison Pen by GenkaiFan - old but good. the Saving Connor series by Lighting on the Wave. Family Bonds by xXDesertRoseXx - another abandoned one. The Rigel Black Chronicles by murkybluematter - infrequently updated but oh god it’s one of the best crossovers i’ve ever read.
tagging: anyone who wants to. i never know who to tag
