I love what you did with the last ask! I totally agree on them just being protective of the reader whenever any “threats” come by lol.

Since you enjoyed that AU very much I’d be happy to share the many more with you, hope you don’t mind the spam, but if we’re gonna still talk about the deserted island/Shapeshifter AU (that’s what I’m gonna call it from now on!) I’m thinking, later on, when the reader is more closer to moon and sun what if they showed a specific interest in something specific.

Let’s say reader is a marine biologist or someone who loves the ocean/ sea life and finds a shell or a piece of dead coral that got washed up and either sun or moon watch you from a distance and watch as you smile brightly at what you have in your hand and wants to see that same look over and over, so they go into the ocean when they aren’t sunbathing or hanging around you—probably at night at best— and find something that looks similar or better and place it on the edge of the beech far enough so the waves won’t wash it away and pretend they didn’t have any involvement and swim off.

Next day they are out of sight as they see you grab their gift to you and they’re filled with pride at your expression!

BONUS!: Sun and Moon start making it a competition into who can get you the best gift to the point they’ll get human items from shipwrecks, for example, gold coins, lost rings, etc.

I think the marine biologist job is pretty good, it can add up to a lot of points for survival on the island. The reader will know which fish are dangerous or poisonous, and at the same time the reader is sure that he has never seen anything like Sun and Moon in his life. There is no logic to it and it is very scary and exciting a new species, of course, leaving aside that they are incredibly lethal if they decide you are a threat. If you make it off the island alive it would be a great discovery. Bonus points if the reason the reader was on the ship was because he was hired to investigate the waters and it didn't end well (I really feel like the Devil's Sea would make a great game board there).

I imagine Sun being the first to give the gift, just happy to see that you liked it. He gives a couple more and it's Moon's turn to give the gift, he keeps saying that you liked his gift much better and Sun is annoyed and decides to give you a better gift than Moon's, and so on and so forth. It's a childish game for two creatures who are bored and found something interesting in their territory. I also think that over time they will become more daring, first they will just be gifts that they leave slyly around your shelter, and then practically next to your bed. You don't understand anything and when they actually decide to introduce themselves properly to you and those behaviors persist it is certainly shocking because you never heard them, you know, it is natural to be afraid of someone entering your safe zone without permission and watching you sleep, worse if they are not human and you don't know their intentions but you know they can tear you apart.

They probably take mental note of your likes and dislikes, they have a small collection of seashells, shells and pearls, as well as gifts of dead animals are well received. But any kind of gadget like a branch with a seaweed that can be a toy for their kind is rejected, sometimes you just pass by without looking at an animal they left for you (which one is it? Depends on what you don't like).

Gifts that used to belong to humans are also welcome, like a small chest that you can use to store fruits, you always bring the necklace they found in a shipwreck. But you refuse if they take a literal part of the ship, that scares you and you might not visit that part of the island for a while (Totally doesn't bring unpleasant memories where you wonder if it is a piece of your ship).

Also, how tall and big are Sun and Moon? Maybe they could change to your liking if they are shape shifters? It would be fun to be able to carry them in your pockets, but it's also very OP something like that.

I guess they have a limited repertoire of forms they can take and developed by evolution, and that boils down to their two forms of earth and water. Something triggered to survive due to the few of their kind left, and to avoid extinction they settled in the dead sea, where there are few humans and they make sure it stays that way.
