Yuzuru Hanyu's Senior FS Costumes
I. Origin 1.0 (Prince of Darkness)
Note: All the references (interviews, translations, etc.) used for this post are listed below the cut
Tumblr media
In the 2018-2019 season, Yuzuru Hanyu came to compete as the newly crowned double Olympic champion. He dedicated his short program (Otonal) to Johnny Weir and his free program (Origin) to Evgeni Plushenko, two skaters Yuzuru admired since childhood.
Origin 1.0 - the costume which has the aura of the Prince of Darkness, as described by Satomi Ito herself, the costume designer¹. I consider this one of the top iconic Yuzuru Hanyu costumes because it deviates from the usual brightly colored ones (think about the blue-based costumes, for example) and he embraces the dark. I do not mean dark as in only color, but also judging by the vibes. The only other costume I can think of as channeling dark(ness) is Masquerade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a striking contrast between the relaxed, skating around Yuzuru Hanyu and the competition mode ON Yuzuru Hanyu. The difference is made specifically by his expression. However, in both instances, the costume seems to create a barrier between him and the rest of the world. Origin 1.0, a black and gold lace-top paired with black velour pants, is the first competition costume worn by Yuzu after winning his second Olympic gold medal and I like to think this costume is made to emphasize that Yuzuru Hanyu is untouchable.
The base of the top is a skin-coloured fabric with overlaid black lace. On the front, the chest's jagged opening creates the illusion of feathers spreading protectively, a subtle dynamism enhanced by the diagonal, slightly winding fabric and golden details orientation. In contrast, on the upper back, the gold fabric follows the curve of the shoulder blades and ribcage, like an exoskeleton, while the lower back's lines are naturally flowing downwards, highlighting the waist. Here and there few dark-red beads can be noticed which confer depth and nuance to the costume.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Origin 1.0 is based on Yuzuru's surname: 『The non-human born of feathers』². As such, the most important detail is represented by the feathers - around 100 handmade black and white feathers by Satomi Ito, applied manually, and the white ones airbrushed black in the middle to maintain the costume's cohesion. Another subtle detail lies in the purple rhinestones. They are seamlessly integrated within the costume so much so that these become noticeable only in close-up photos (see below).
Tumblr media
Contributing to the depth of the costume are the purposefully ripped holes within the lace. Satomi Ito took to making those herself in the process of bringing Origin to life². The holes convey a subtle ragged look, of someone who has seen darkness and embraced it. They complement the entire look beautifully, adding to the Prince of Darkness theme.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Origin 1.0 is one of those costumes made of multiple layers with various details applied without looking heavy or overly ornated. It maintains an apparently basic pattern while being full of hidden gems.
Tumblr media
At the end of another 'incomplete' season (Yuzu injured his ankle during 2018 NHK's FS practice, winning the event despite it, but having to withdraw from GPF and Japan Nationals), Yuzuru commented in a post-Worlds 2019 interview that the black and gold costume was meant to be "accessorized" only with gold medals (paraphrased)³.
--------------------------------
Personally, I have been quite vocal on this blog about my undying love for the Origin sisters. They are in a constant battle to be my favourite.
Today, Origin 1.0 won for four reasons:
1) the theme is right up my alley
2) there is an easily found translation of an interview with Satomi Ito about the making of the costume (and I'm proud to say I understood the costume and the vision before reading the interview)
3) Yuzu won for the first time both of his GP assignments - he really was determined to have only gold associated with Origin 1.0.
4) 2019 Worlds Origin deserved the gold

TanZen week 2021 Day 5: wish/ unrequited/ childhood friends/ ice-skating
HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!! How are you??? This time I tried coloring the lines. I'm not totally satisfied with the result, but it's something ;v; I had never drawn anything ice-skating related so this was a challenge! I used Yuzuru Hanyu pictures for reference!!!
On the story!! Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke are childhood friends who started ice-skating. At first Zenitsu was truly bad at it, but Tanjiro was always there to support him and our lil Zenitsu developed a crush on him.
Years later, Zenitsu and Inosuke continued practicing, maybe professionally now? I haven't decided, but you're free to fill the gap :'3 although Tanjiro didn't continue with them, he keeps going to their practices and brings them food.
Zenitsu never confesed to him so Tanjiro is oblivious to his feelings, so Zenitsu assumes that his love is unrequited (but is it?) and since Tanjiro's getting kinda closed to this new friend of his, well...
I have pending the second and free day, but it will take time to upload them. Maybe on mid junuary ;v; I hope you like this and thank you very much for your support! I'm on Twitter at @ yurixchel :3!!!

Hello! I’ve been following fs for a while and want to ask - what is so special about Yuzuru Hanyu? Not trying to hate or smth, it’s just that I don’t get why people seem to so idolize him, call him perfect and occasionally talk shit about other skaters to highlight how he is the one and only, because there seems to be many really good skaters out there, Nathan Chen or Shoma Uno for example, but he really has the biggest and most active fans, so that’s my question out of pure interest to see perspective
Hello!
Y’all really be waltzing into the inbox of a person whose URL is “hanyusan” and asking what’s so special about Hanyu-san. I love it. Hope you have a drink and some snacks, because this is going to be a long and slightly bumpy trip.
To me, it kind of feels like you’re asking two related but different questions: 1) why do some people like Yuzuru Hanyu so much and 2) why are some people so unhealthily obsessed with Yuzuru Hanyu that they will hiss at any other skater that approaches? I’m a bad-news-first kind of person, so I’ll try to address the second question first.
Fact: Yuzu is both very goodlooking and very good at what he does. People like goodlooking individuals and individuals who are good at things. Yes, it sounds super dumb and overly simplified, but the barrier to entry of starting to like him is just that low. But, you might say, other skaters are also goodlooking and also good at what they do. True, which is why first impressions are just the beginning.
From my perspective, I don’t think most of the "fans” you’re thinking of (the toxic kind, basically) view Yuzu as a human being. That sounds awful, but I really don’t know of a nicer way of putting it that wouldn’t be a watering down of the problem. You used the term “idolize,” which is a very accurate descriptor of what’s happening and exactly why a portion of his fanbase can be so problematic, to no fault of his own.
I have a personal vendetta against the concept of “idols,” mainly because prior to being a Yuzu fan, I spent a good number of my teenage years in a hormonal, K-pop boy group phase. Maybe you know this already; K-pop stars are commonly referred to as “idols.” Their job is not just to sing and dance, it’s to sing and dance and build relationships with fans that oftentimes become parasocial in nature. That’s their literal job. (And before anyone misconstrues what I’m saying as an attack on their favorite idols, I’m criticizing how some idols are marketed as commodities, not the idols themselves.) If a fan gets sucked too far into the void and truly “idolizes” these people, the subject of their affections becomes less human and more...idol-like. Through the eyes of a fixated fan, they are put on a pedestal that makes them shed all their flaws.
How does Yuzu fit into this if he isn’t an idol? But is he not, to some people? If we’re talking about looks, he falls into that category of being fit and handsome. He also has an extremely clean public image and is all-around respected within his field. Other skaters may possess some of these traits, but his longevity and consistency have also aided him in garnering more fans than his peers.
When it comes to a public figure who checks so many boxes, you will definitely have people similar to teenage-me, who are constantly being exposed to this person, grow interested, and subconsciously develop a borderline—if not outright—obsession with them. Many of these fans are young and impressionable and don’t know to draw boundaries. It’s not pretty, as you can tell. The intense idolization and worship is a problem that goes beyond Yuzuru Hanyu and figure skating.
As for the hate toward other skaters, I have no justification. But I can say that in a sport like figure skating, which is fraught with corruption and barefaced political interests, there’s going to be a lot of angry fans out there. Much of that anger is unfortunately misdirected toward other athletes just because they’re easy targets – they have identifiable names and faces. Then, when you have those who idolize Yuzu, that becomes a part of their identity and one that they can go to unreasonable lengths to protect.
Let’s take it to the much-more-fun question #1. Why do (reasonable) fans like Yuzu so much?
Allow me to introduce: my mother and her official Yuzuru statement (these are close to direct quotes, just translated from Chinese to English):
He’s a good kid. If you listen to the way he talks, he’s always supporting the other skaters and saying nice things about them. He is kind from the bottom of his heart. He is well-spoken and the type of person who always comforts others. And he has great manners.
All of us old ladies really like him. We all want our sons to be like him and hope that our daughters can marry someone like him.
I don’t think I could ever make my son do all the things that he does. To work that hard must be so exhausting. But he must make his mother proud, still. Oh, but [my brother], you’re great, too.
Ever since he was little, he’s been skating. Even though his body was not the best suited for it [referring to his asthma], he still kept at it. He is determined and persistent. And you can tell by the way he performs and acts that he’s experienced many difficult things. Someone who hasn’t gone through a lot cannot be as kindhearted as he is.
He’s a true sportsman – he competes only against himself. He’s already won so much that now he prioritizes pushing the sport forward. That shows how much respect he pays to his field, to keep going and aiming for longevity while constantly trying new things.
人很乖,滑的乖,跳的乖 = “a very good/sweet person, sweet when skating, sweet when jumping”
Arguably, the above is the closest thing to an objective analysis of what makes Yuzu so likeable. I say this with utmost confidence because my mother is the type of person who otherwise finds great joy in nitpicking and criticizing people. Source: over two decades’ experience of being nitpicked and criticized.
Anyways, I would be dumb to not use this as an opportunity to talk about some of what I think, too.
He cute. Sorry, I can be superficial, too.
He goes out of his way to help people, whether it be filling in holes in the ice alongside rink employees or donating tons of money (and Pooh bears!) to charity.
Skating hasn’t always been kind to him, but he is loyal to it. He also warns his fans that the journey won’t be easy for us, either; which is great because I like planning ahead for stressful situations.
He wrote his thesis on using AI to implement fairer scoring, AKA simultaneously the most thought-through and petty form of revenge anyone’s ever had on this sport.
His skating is simply different. It might not be to everyone’s taste, but the reason that it’s my preference is because he’s performative. On his best days, his emotions flow through every movement of his skating and you just get sucked into it and the story that he’s telling on the ice. Yuzu is not the only skater that has made me emotional through their skating, but he is the only one who has done so consistently.
This got quite long, even when I tried to make it more succinct...I did warn you beforehand, though. Hopefully it offered enough insight!

sub!Yuzu | nsfw alphabet
🌹 NOTE ⇢ content for our fave figure skater, the legend himself. mr. yuzuru hanyu is 1000% dom candy and i’m here to honor it at length ⛸
— WORDS. 5k
tags + warnings. dom/sub dynamics, femdom!reader, role reversal hc, smut, kinks, cum play, spanking, sex toys, very freaky yuzu, kitten play, mdlb, crying kink, food play, prostate orgasms, bondage, some deeper stuff & angsty bits, asthma mention, aftercare
Tumblr media
A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
Once the cat ears come off, who is Yuzuru Hanyu not to remain in character for a while. For the shits and giggles, and because it’s cozy. Once a catboy, always a catboy, it’s the law of the land. Curling up, kneading at you for the head pats and massages, you know the programme.
Also: Yuzu is famously soft-spoken and always finds the right thing to say. So, stimulating conversation for the cooldown. This is literally so nice. He’s unafraid to reflect everything in detail, say what he preferred, what you could change up together, what he wants to try next. The afterglow is not just physical, as in you give him something to drink, it’s 70% verbal which is very important to him as a consistent habit.
Of course, not to forget: Always gotta have a Winnie Pooh plushie ready. He embraces it readily and, as we know him, does some roleplay right then and there. Yuzu, professional cutiepie he is, is the kinda sub who treats all plush and pillow stuff as alive and breathing. You as his domme are in on the play and also treat his things as holy as they are to him. That Yuzu lets you into that world is the biggest compliment you can possibly get.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
We all know Yuzu’s godly ass and thighs. Or the staggering waist and beautiful black hair that makes him a total bombshell in his classic comb-back styles. His face is soft and expressive and so damn unique, his legs muscular and long, his back and tummy chiseled, the list goes on and on. Jesus, he has so many great features. All body parts a masterpiece. That are all capable of god-tier contortionism on top of that, gotta mention it in passing. Just so you know if you haven’t seen him bend his every limb into directions you wouldn’t believe are humanly possible.
Interestingly though. If he chooses, Yuzu picks his feet: They are his most important instrument and weak spot. His ankles are where the magic happens. So, you taking care of them a little would mean the world to him, imagine a candle light massage. Not to worry, no-gross-alert. Yuzu has perfect and cute feet. That’s gonna be a Victorian moment, oh my god I saw his ankles. For his partner, short and simple: He likes a shoulder to lean on. He loves being touchy in general, all body parts are amazing to him. Being in a profession that’s all about the physics, Yuzuru knows about the wonders of the body.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
Certified king of cumsluts, doesn’t even hesitate. The more, the merrier. If he’s not covered in sticky stuff, Yuzu would be underchallenged. It’s less about the taste, texture or any degradation, for him it’s the playing around with his tongue. Somebody wants his mouth preoccupied. Give the cat his milk. Feed him his own cum mixed with yours. He’s gonna lap at it and swallow.
Since Yuzu’s dream is a mommy domme baking him something, he just loves the smell of dough and hazelnuts and cinnamon and everything — you know what’s coming: Imagine the food play. Nuts indeed. Anything that even remotely looks like a creampie is something he wants to get his lips on. And Yuzu is not the type to be a foodie at all, let that sink in. Sexual-looking food is just too big a temptation, though. And you spoiling him that way... oh my. Surefire way to end up in bed right after.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self-explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
Has a butt plug collection. Once almost went on the ice with one in. The more you know. Also— this guy is the kinda type fantasizing to get absolutely railed on a bed of plushies. He has troubles suggesting it to you because he doesn’t want them to get actually dirty. But the idea gets the two of you kind of horny. Sometimes, a thought is better as a fantasy than actually executing it. You can use it for riling up’s sake, whispering it to him during dirty talk. How you’ll bounce on him and ruin him and milk him while he’s splayed out so innocently on your bed. I smell corruption kink.
Another secret Yuzu keeps is just how much he changed his mind about wanting his partner to control everything in bed. He grew up with a pre-defined ideal type of a cute, nice skater girl who’d let the reins very loosely around him, who he can speak Japanese to because he had problems with English, who is small and someone he will protect. It wasn’t something based on experience and trying things out: It was simply expected of him. People wanted the domineering Yuzuru on ice to be that way in private, and make use of his power, be a man, savior, boss.
The reality being: He never felt truly as tough on the ice, nor was he gender-conforming in person. In fact, that is what he became famous for, and it reassured Yuzuru very often how people would accept and actually celebrate this side of him. Which is so refreshing, and a sight to see. The side that was dorky, clingy, childish, gorgeous, and cute has always been there, but now he embraces it more as his comfort place. He has to know what he’s doing in his skating programme and show competitive spirit to achieve his dreams, but that’s where it stops.
His former ideals are something people wanted to hear, it was an adaptation of the environment rather than thinking it through on his own. So, years later — oh boy have things changed. Yuzuru no longer defines his ideal type that way, saying whoever he likes is someone he’d be with. What was a fantasy template and filter is now gone and adapted to his newfound, own preferences. Yuzu is comfortably open-minded rather than being a copy to mainstream. He found fun in speaking English, opened up to the world at large, had more girls around him who he could befriend, grew more confident in his stature, and is well aware — turns out he’s the cute one. Who needs to be taken under a wing. He likes strong-minded girls and says if he had a wife, she’d dominate him. Yuzuru secretly wants her to be in charge entirely, she owns his body and soul. Not in daily life where things are just normal and everyone goes about their business. Sexually, where he surrenders instead, and is taken care of.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
The tale of an introvert. What he knows — he hides it well. Has eyefucked a whole lot of people and is the type to lust like mad from a far distance, and nobody will ever know. Crushes harder than peppercorns in a mill. If he loves someone, it lingers in his mind every split second of the day, may god have mercy on him. And if you know him: Yuzu aims too high to keep it light and easy and clumsy. He hates being an amateur, he’s terrified of starting out something. He dreads not knowing what to do, how exactly to behave, talk, touch, breathe, respond, negotiate, prepare. That’s a hundred percent like hell to him.
Ironically, he has a natural feeling for it and he’s literally amazing in bed, has a sense for social interaction is all the way cute with something valuable to say. But what he believes is something way different. Yuzuru is a diehard, nervous perfectionist. He can only think of it as a rated performance since his mind usually has to work that way to skate well. His esteem is on a knife edge depending on how well he thinks he does. So, the inevitable: He will shy away from sex altogether. He draws immense skating passion from staying celibate, in fact it’s his success secret, but it still eats him up from the inside and makes him frustrated beyond measure. Not even for the pleasure, since he’s so ambitious that’s almost forgotten about, but for being told he did well.
That’s how much he believes sex is a drill and capability test. And it’s sad that he thinks it’s like his skating career, racking up points for the impossible things judges want and being in a deadlock when it comes to showing his artistic side. He feels thrown into cold water if he doesn’t know everything beforehand. If he ever works up the courage, which probably won’t happen, he will pay an expert to learn from rather than let something all over the place happen with a random person or even someone he might like.
Yes, you heard that right. He’d rather see a sex worker than ‘mess up’ his first time according to his sky-high standards. So, Yuzu’s experience remains limited since he’s so 100% do or die, and so anxious, and so torn about social interaction, he doesn’t get how his peers can be playboys and get married and flirt with someone they like and all that. He sort of has an easier time with guys, but girls... he can’t approach. To top it off, he also feels like he’d burden his first time one somebody or embarrasses himself, so he will reject and avoid suitors. Those are usually not the people he crushes so hard on to begin with. It’s bound to be one-sided and he knows, so he will abstain and focus on career and use the cheers of his fans as a substitute.
Truth is, he feels helpless and distant from sex sometimes, especially with his practice-heavy lifestyle and hyper-smart mind, Yuzuru has an intelligence that exceeds what most people can grasp. He’s alone on the ice and Brian as a coach is often the only reference person who truly gets him, and leads him well without being controlling. But that’s professional life. Sexually, Yuzuru is metaphorically: coachless. He surely observed it well when Javier (the #1 ladies man, his opposite) was still active and a social butterfly helping him fit in, but Yuzu would always be worried about his extreme fame and spotless image when introduced to someone fangirling over him. He’d rather prefer someone who comes across as a mentor and solid, loyal-to-death person to look up to. So he would do anything to have someone benevolent like that. Most girls would expect him to be the sex god and expert, but he knows that’s only half of the story and based on his characters on the ice. Yuzu crafts these to counterbalance how he really is — withdrawn and indirect.
Yuzu is extremely calculating and selective, he scans suitors well, protects his reputation, and is mortified of failure. So, he’d rather learn it by the book and from someone he’s not emotionally attached to. In a one-night stand that might also be the case, but he doesn’t know what to expect, and he’s absolutely terrified of sudden sexual vulnerability. He himself often says he values his own struggle between feeling so weak and being strong again
Besides: He’d have problems squeezing hookups into his schedule and lifestyle, he’d have to cut down on things and create a double life. Plus, Yuzu is famously inept with social interaction up close, he flees the noise and unpredictability. So, it’s better to have a long-term partner. If he doesn’t know something yet, he has it down in one day like the single axel. Definitely counts on his partner teaching him.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
We know Yuzu’s signature move is the lean-back Ina Bauer. So, whatever position allows for an arch is the real deal (cough, taking the strap — oh my god his ass is made for it). But anyway, he can pull off anything with that stellar flexibility and core strength.
If I think about it. Yuzu might like sitting on your lap very much. I know it’s not a sex position, I mean it can be once his inner lapdancer awakens or you use a strap-on, I rather mean... just for some sweet moments and making out. But yeah: Fathom Yuzu gyrating on your like that. Not in an outright lascivious manner or Chippendales style. The Hanyu way, with embellishments and all the grace. This is gonna be a huge turn-on and perfect foreplay position.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
Not much to elaborate here: Yep, Yuzu is true goofball indeed. Really flustered and clumsy when eye-to-eye in missionary, and yet: He’s ultra serious towards the end, there’s gonna be an aggressive staredown before cumming. The feeling gets pretty intense, his duality between silly and ‘yeah, give it to me’ is no joke.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
Would probably die from inflammation if he shaved clean under those tight suits and did all these chafe-heavy skating routines. Doesn’t have a lot of body hair to begin with, but for pits and pubes, it’s alive, wild, and decently long. Out of all people, Yuzu cares particularly about aesthetics, but in this case pragmatism will prevail. He doesn’t care too much about it either as long as it doesn’t get in the way of something. Having sex with Yuzu tends to be well um well all about a hundred types of friction so any stubble would be a bad idea.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
You haven’t seen a guy in love like that. It’s a figure skater thing for sure. Since he works to portray these sentiments on the ice daily, hardly anybody can play up feelings so delicately and palpably like Yuzuru. Emotion is what his entire career is built on. He knows how to express himself directly, appropriately, intimately. Couldn’t be any more romantic. Yuzu can’t go without it.
Very passionate, ‘for your eyes only’ kind of atmosphere. Yes, he shows off on the ice, it’s his job (although of course, that word doesn’t really sum up what skating means to him). But private Yuzu is someone you can claim as yours. He will make it clear, he wants to belong to you, he’s yours, dedicated, devotion is the entire point. Less with a slant of what some subs like, very hands-on ownership of a mistress. It’s more emotional. He’s really attached and all smitten. Your private little haven is everything to him.
Talking about little: Yuzu can be quite a pillow prince sometimes. At least when the initiative doesn’t go back and forth as it frequently does, you often alternate with suggestions and ways of tweaking an ongoing play session. You blindfold him or tie his wrists, He might be standard tired from practice or just fascinated to watch you work your magic on him.
He also likes music to set the tone for intimacy, who’s surprised. Prepare: Yuzu likes dramatic classical music all the way. He’s probably one of the few people who can make it more than ‘classy’ and definitely more than cringe. He selects pieces very well. This is gonna be a practice template to cum together when the music reaches its peak. Makes the whole thing full of adrenaline.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
Lots of fun to him. Would beat it 24/7 if the ice wasn’t calling him. Drowns himself in lube. This guy’s me-time is so rated R, Cardi B would be inspired to remix WAP to wet ass penis as an anthem just for him. A dry dick is a ruined day for Yuzuru, as is a session without teasing his prostate in whatever way he currently fancies. Once he tried it, he never went back. The intensity knocking him out is something that Yuzu thinks about all the time. Strokes like a pro, does all these little moans, can do it forever, loves the feeling, chases the high. Adrenaline junkie on the ice? No different with his hand around his cock.
Will masturbate everywhere in the house and has to really get his head in the game to make sure he won’t ruin any carpets. So, he always has at least two towels with him. In the kitchen, in front of the TV, in the shower, the bed. Watches his fair share of eclectic porn, he gets really desperate. Especially before you started dating, Yuzu would shut himself in until the lotion ran out. Can jack off to something romantic (he starts crying) or something extreme (he loves shocking himself and ).
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
Very curious about sadomasochism. Googles a lot of things that make him hard during the day. Often jawdropped by his research, but once he tries things out with you, nothing can really shock him anymore. Absolutely wants to be collared, it’s his biggest fantasy. Another little secret he has, Yuzu is decked out in skating gloves, right. He wishes he could feel you wearing them, or he keeps them on for sex himself, the lacey transparent ones. Looks especially pretty when his wrists are tied so, major photograpy material. Oh yes, Yuzu likes the camera, he can work it. The guy is photogenic in any position and can strike any angle you want. Your phone background is a new Yuzu snapshot every week already, imagine your gallery, 5800 kinky pictures.
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
I’m gonna say it. The frozen lake out of town, late at night, condoms and lube with you. A quickie that will leave your genitals frozen. Yuzu might get stuck inside you because it’s -15 Celsius. Call that fantasy on ice. Jokes aside: Come on, Yuzu is the biggest ever hermit homebody. The couch will have a bunch of indents after your week-long fucking sessions after he comes home training. Also, at his desk while he does work for university. You ride him, Yuzu studies. Double the ambition. His dick is completely sore. The lake out of town thing might go down, but without sex. Just skating together under the stars, Yuzu doing amazing spins and spirals around you, very very romantic.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
Yuzu is a crazed Sagittarius. Have you seen these men? They just want it all. Must be the influence of Jupiter. Zeus was definitely vibing that way. And yes, Yuzu has borderline unhealthy gold medal thinking in bed. He wants to be not just good but damn good with pleasing you. If you don’t have a good time and head home without an orgasm, he’ll consider himself a failure. Yuzu won’t cut himself any slack there. You’d have a hard time changing his ways into something more chill and moderate. Instead, you will see the benefits of rolling with it once you see how improvement fuels him and does make sex really mindblowing.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
Couldn’t do things like slapping you, spanking. Yuzu makes for a terrible daddy dom, it’d not suit him.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
Cum-dripping oral mess, Yuzu is the brave kind. Totally into it, and can’t resist a good blowjob. Will act different afterwards, there’s a lot of erotic tension. “This evening again?” is what those eyes are saying.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
Outstanding kinesthetic intelligence. Every inch of his body follows his intent, and yours if you have him take on certain ways of kneeling. Yuzu can do it all, whatever you want. Tantalizing, moderato, overwhelmingly fast. He can take it, he can portray it. And knows the value of a pause like a true connoisseur. Not just when he wants to prevent cumming early, also just because the moment is right. That’s why cockwarming is a staple, as well as you having him wait patiently for kisses. To top it off: If you give him a blowjob, building up the tension by doing nothing is damn effective. The ruined orgasms you’re gonna give him... delicious.
Everything’s gonna have nice transitions as well, no awkward climbing and rolling and tangling limbs. If he gets something from another room that you need, no slouching. The university course as good as the extracurricular activities. Being inconsistent with any subsidiary details? Not in the Hanyu household, he’s keeping it classy. Yuzu feels like if he makes the bridges to new positions even remotely messy, the feeling is killed and it’s as if he’d break character mid-skate. Although he’ll have to practice and refine and test a lot of things because he’s not super experienced and adapting to your own movements is an individualized thing to do, he’s a masterclass of quality, period.
Even when things get fast and heated, nothing feels off. Having that kind of body smartness also means: Yuzu learns by touch, whatever you do. He knows by the way you pull his hair what comes next. How much saliva drips off your tongue when you suck at his neck, he knows how hard you’ll to ravage him in five minutes. This guy observes things you aren’t even conscious of because his physical understanding is just so fine-tuned.
The sense of rhythm, and every skating programme of him will showcase that, unbeatable. Unless his mood is really impacted by something severe, your guy feels it in every bone. He’s an artist, after all, he listens to music all the time. Dissecting rhythms to turn them into movement is what his line of work is all about. The pace will always fit the mood. Everything is precise, but never crude. Instead, the way he moves is dictated by an inherent flow. With little accents that match right with any thrust, like putting his hands on your sides when you’re on top of him.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
Hit it Shakira: Whenever, wherever! He seemingly carries an entire condom factory with him. Or, to be more exact: At least three of them.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
This one’s a complicated case. Yuzu being reckless on the ice may or may not mirror in your private life. He might need some downtime, so bring out the soft domme stuff. No trial and error stuff, just going through a routine of things you love the most. On the other hand, he always gives it all. This guy’s endurance at your hands is amazing. Advanced kinds of BDSM he will not feel deterred from at all. Rough toys, anal hooks, sounding, whips, why not is Yuzu’s motto. But then again. He has such a confusing mix of innocence and feeling like he’s completely hardcore. You might end up experimenting a lot, but also not daring the leap sometimes because the mood is different. And then rather go for softer hours, where Yuzu will be all shy shy and more bursting with excitement than ever. A good, interesting mix is what I’m saying.
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
Yuzuru, once he gets a bit of practice to gauge the situation... Viagra on two legs, absolute unexpected powerhouse. You might end up pondering to work out a little and go for a run because this guy is in a consistently outstanding shape to say the least. Olympic athletes are literally hard to fuck with. And since Yuzu is starfishing sometimes (which is very adorable), or he’s in bondage for some time, that presents a further problem: For a second round, he’s full of energy, while you already spent energy. So, you alternate with who’s active, and the other leans back entirely. He has to remind himself since his body is programmed for it: This is no contest — the point is feeling good.
You might ride him reverse cowgirl all the way while you watch TV, and after the overstimulation fades he will eat you out ad nauseam, full course slobbering, sweeping the whole menu. That way, it’s less about keeping up with him, which would be hard for most people not doing sports at his galactic level. He understands, Yuzu knows he’s not normal in that regard, you don’t have to worry. Some exercise still doesn’t hurt, just to further increase the quality of sex anyway.
Then again: Why go jogging and do some laps wasting valuable together time when Yuzu’s lap is the best workout? And running doesn’t guarantee your stamina in bed is perfect even if it does help. You rather wanna manage how to draw out the arousal. It’s a self-control thing, with the goal of having you match up in every aspect as good as you can. In which case, you can count on him to pull it off: Have you seen Yuzu doing jumps side by side with a bunch of female skaters? Copy paste. This guy knows how to synchronize with the ladies.
Something that has to be mentioned beside that, though. Yuzu has asthma since 2 years old, and it’s often a mind thing to him still these days. He doesn’t let it stop him from sleeping with you because as always, he’s not letting anything get in his way. He has learned to live and thrive with it. But you both have to mind the possibility of an attack, he prevents it with inhalers, and the mood plays a crucial role. Yuzu being comfortable and confident is so important to his breathing, and keeping a good rhythm rather than being chaotic in bed. So, you will plan most of your sexual activities rather than improvising.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
Would stuff an entire sex shop into his every available orifice. Yuzu is a toy freak, he wants to try everything. Motto: a new one every day. Well, almost. But he can afford it. Buys stuff he uses solely on himself, things you use on him, things he uses solo and you use on him, and as the cherry on top, every possible high end vibrator on the market for you. Any size, too. This bitch will browse through the latest innovations, prepare to get off. He’s obsessed with seeing you use it on yourself. Yuzu owns a separate phone just for videos of you buzzing your clit, and him fingering you for minutes and minutes.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
Extremely so. Loves to be a total brat only to get put into his place. He does it so you’ll pull the chin grab on him. He likes getting choked out as a punishment as well. Yuzu also tends to be very around the corner if you will when it comes to soft subbing, he lays over expecting cuddles but doesn’t say so. Buds his head against your chest, nuzzles, and so on. Lighter forms of teasing come to him very easily. Loves to prompt. Roughhousing, banter, favorite thing.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
Moderately loud because his voice is very very light, but unsurprisingly — he’s just beautiful. What a nice tone. Gorgeous whimpering sounds. And when you go hard on him, voice cracks! And really heavy breathing. What’s gonna be the most striking though is his expressiveness. We know it from the ice and interviews, and he can really amp it up even further. No need for screaming, that face will speak the volumes.
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
You’ll be blessed with him if you have a huge crying kink. Yuzu definitely opens the waterworks every other week in bed. Happy tears, horny tears, relief tears, aftercare tears, orgasm tears, masochist tears, romantic tears, subspace tears, he has it all. He also begs for the type of pain that makes it stream down his face for minutes. He’s touchy-feely all the way and feels like he can really connect with you that way.
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
His ass twitching is kind of a spectacle, but I don’t have to tell you, do I. Yuzu has muscles for the gods in there. So voluptuous, you can’t call it any other way. Big booty boyfriend, Jesus you can show him off, he loves it. Around the house, he will flaunt them big ole athlete buns in particular, acting like it’s unintended. Um, Yuzu, those are joggings. Smack it, he is sure to moan.
And may I respectfully mention as well — this guy has some major big ass balls figuratively and literally. How else would someone be motivated to jump a triple axel like it’s nothing. Not kidding, they’re big and round and ugh. His love for tight pants doesn’t help. He knows what your eyes like and dresses just to flex the goods. Screams for more spanking and pinching if you ask me. Yuzu is definitely serving it. Well-endowed, you lucky girl.
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
Mega horny, ready when you are. On a scale from zero to hundred? Breaching into the 90 percent right there. Yuzu’s hormones are literally insane. On paper he’s 26, but his dick wants the 18th birthday party. Jesus is he gonna be clingy when he’s in the mood. All wrapped around you in a backhug in the kitchen or when you iron a costume of his, and that’s sexy of him. He’s not gonna hide what’s filling out those sweatpants. He’ll desperately grind up against you like it’s Christmas.
Paired with his puppy eyes and little “Do you have some time... I’ll iron this tomorrow” — instant pounce. He’s admittedly a bit hard to keep up with sometimes, though. The reason: With that level of exercise, he has major pent-up energy. That machine is definitely running. Heavy sports changes your hormones, nervous system, and especially blood flow. Now take that to the scale of his performances and regimens? That equals a firework of horny. No wonder he masturbates all the time.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Takes some time. He cools down, sweats it out, chugs water. However, don’t underestimate how tired Yuzu can already be. His daily routines and competitions have a toll on him. Ironically, he’s not a deep sleeper, however. Yuzu might toss and turn and have sudden energy bursts, or ideas, or gets hungry. So, he needs his plushies, he needs a weighted blanket, warm pajamas, a hot cup of his favorite warm drink, a light snack, and you by his side. Spooning him excessively and sometimes even humming to him. Yuzu looks like a certified angel on his pillow, his well-deserved rest from everything is so important, too.

Since requests are open I'll send another one 😅 what about Todoroki, Kirishima and Bakugou seeing their crush fangirl over men figure skating tournament or just videos of some performances. It would be amazing if it would be set in the common area of the dorm and the crush is watching it with others and keeps telling the group how amazing the skater is etc. . (I saw Yuzuru Hanyu on 4CC and I'm not okay, I'm fangirling like crazy) Thank you 💖 💖
Some YOI references bc of a big brained anon
Tumblr media
TODOROKI SHOUTO
The type to be lowkey jealous about it tbh
He just wants all your attention to be on him, is that so much to ask??
With the way you’re fawning over your phone and ranting to your friends about how flawless the skater’s performance was, it honestly might be.
"You must really like ice skating,” Midoriya comments after you pause for breath, an amused smile on his face. “I didn’t know you were this passionate about it.”
“I just really admire the sport,” you admit, finally putting your phone away. “Man, watching all these videos makes me want to go ice skating so bad...”
“I could make an ice rink for you right now,” Todoroki impulsively blurts out, effectively drawing the attention of you and everyone else seated in the common room.
There are stars in your eyes as you lean forward in excitement, the couch lightly bouncing from your movements. “Really? Really?”
He has to try really hard to keep the flames in his heart from becoming externally visible on his left side.
“Absolutely not!” Iida interjects. “Do you know how much of a hassle that would be to clean up?”
The rest of your friends gathered around you mumble in disappointed agreement, eventually dispersing from the common room at their own pace and leaving you and Shouto alone.
You sigh, drawing your knees up to your chest as you lean back on the couch. “It’s probably for the best, anyway. Thanks for offering, though.”
“Maybe we could go ice skating at an actual rink sometime,” he quietly suggests, a hand nervously rubbing the back of his neck. “Just the two of us. But only if you want t—”
He’s interrupted by your body suddenly crashing into his as you hug him tightly, a delighted laugh leaving you. “Heck yeah, I want to! You’re the best, you know that?”
Needless to say, the two of you have lots of fun on your ice skating date 😌
BAKUGOU KATSUKI
Mr. “What’s so great about ice skating, anyway?” ™️
You’re this👌 close to throwing hands with him in the common room in front of all your friends.
But you’ll be civil. For now.
“Come on, don’t you think this skater’s pretty cool? Look at the way he landed that triple axel—”
“The only person he thinks is cool is All Might.”
“Valid point.” You nod seriously at Kirishima to Bakugou’s indignation. “But skaters work really hard to get where they are now! I bet they train just as hard as you do, Katsuki.”
“We have nothing in common!”
“You two have the same first name!”
“Katsuki’s a common name, you idiot!”
Bakugou’s a stubborn guy, so it’ll take more than words to convince him that your boi Yuri deserves some respect.
Everyone’s shocked when he actually agrees to go ice skating with you, obviously to prove that he can do anything better than anyone, he insists.
Definitely not as an excuse to spend more time with you.
KIRISHIMA EIJIROU
Ngl this man is fanboying wITH you.
“Kirishima oh my God did you see how graceful that jump was—”
“Yeah!! It was so manly, wait, can you rewind that part again?”
“Sure!”
The rest of the class is struggling to keep up with how fast the two of you are moving lmao
Ejirou may not know a lot about figure skating, but it does look super cool, and he loves how your face lights up when you point out parts of the skater’s performance, so what’s not to get excited about?
“Hey, do you think I could do one of those fancy quadruple jumps if I activated my quirk and jumped high enough? I could try as many times as I wanted to without getting hurt!”
You squint calculatingly at him, lips pursed in contemplation. “Hmm. Let’s start with a double.”
It is now the rest of class 1A’s mission to keep you two away from any large bodies of ice.

Figure skating art!!! (Click for quality)
Image one- Yuzuru Hanyu because I can not get enough of watching him skate he is a god on ice I wish I could be as talented as him
Image two- Alysa Liu because she’s a very big inspiration to me and one of my favorite figure skaters
Image three- Shoto Todoroki figure skating au because if he wasn’t a hero he gives me the vibe that he would be a figure skater. I used Yuzuru Hanyu as a reference for his poses and I’m very proud of how it turned out!!
I LOVE figure skating so much but unfortunately I myself cannot skate ✌️ but I do want to learn someday, hopefully all this pandemic shit will cool down enough that I can try.

Brother on Ice (Adam Solo-POTW)
Tumblr media
Place: The woods outside UMaine
Context: Adam is playing hockey with his fraternity but gets revisited by the sin that first broke his Hunter oaths, as a late birthday surprise.
-Loosely based on the 5th Winter Wonderfest Event Drop.
Content Warning: Religious Idealization, references to alcohol and murder
Adam hit the ice back-first with an oofing exhale on impact. The heavenly bleakness of the grey sky swam in his vision overhead for a moment before Adam tried to scramble his way back to his feat.
But the crack of hockey sticks hitting the puck and following chorus of curses and woops told Adam he was too late.
Skates scraped on ice as Terry swept by, red-faced with both cold and sampling the many drinks resting in the snow at the pond’s ledge. “Six to four,” he reminded with a smirk through the face cage of his the hockey mask, performing a graceful but frivolous u-turn for the sole purpose of zipping some more circles around Adam. “Need help bud,” he offered with wide eyes and feigned innocence as the later struggle to resecure a troublesome shin-guard without face-planting on the ice again.
“Yeah yeah Yuzuru Hanyu go fuck yourself,” Adam shot back to his fraternity brother with a sheepish grin before skating over to the beers and spirits the Delta Epsilon Iota boys had lodged in the pondside ice as a natural cooler.
Adam downed some Keystone as he watched dormmate’s skirmish from the sidelines for a time. Their laughter, jeers, and rasping skate’s ran counterpoint to the winter woodland’s heavy silence. Frozen branches rose on all side of the lake like the walls of a pale sanctuary.
The Hunter contemplated the simple novelty of being alive, to have lived another year. While alot of Americans stressed over getting older, Hunters couldn’t take survival for granted. Age was a stay of execution, not a number. Death had passed Adam by over and over again these last twelve months, when far better people kept dying around him. Adam had seen and done some truly horrible things to get here, but in that moment of just watching his friends have fun on the ice, Adam let life just be a miracle again.
Despite doubting the God was listening or gave even a fuck, Adam offered silent thanks. Life was a gift he hadn’t earned and yet enjoyed. It was only right to acknowledge that. In the off-chance the Creator cared, Adam asked that the clueless guys laughing out here on the ice be allowed to live and love, free from all this fear and evil bullshit. Just for a little while at least?
As always, only the forest’s silence and his friends’ laughter answered.
It was enough, though Adam couldn’t explain why.
Having used up his supply for piety for this year, Adam joined his fraternity brothers again and the war of pucks, tackles, and cussing proceeded in earnest as the winter sky dimmed from to evening’s dull silver.
Adam was helping pack up equipment when Terry and some fraternity pledges started raising hell at the other end of the pond, pointing at something beneath the ice.
Suspecting that Nell had summoned another judgey Hell-Seal as a late birthday prank, Adam skated over to where his roommates were hollering, ready to pour some vodka tea on the pinniped party-crasher.
But when he got closer, Terry looked up, countenance sobered up into an ashen expression. “Shit Adam...it’s…look I’m not..but I swear its...”
Adam joined the circle of his fraternity brothers to stare down at a familiar face that’d haunted his dreams for a year now. A young man about his own age lay buried beneath the pond’s ice. The colors of his letterman jacket and DIE t-shirt were faded and tattered from sodden decay. But the former running-back’s features were untouched and peaceful, looking for all the world as if he were merely sleeping.
“James,” Adam breathed in disbelief.

Fantasy on Ice Makuhari 2022 Day 3 - Impressions
After a full day, I have finally processed what I've watched - FaOI Makuhari 2022 Day 3 - live broadcast.
From the previously released photos of Day 1, I had such high expectations to have sooo many camera-focused Yuzu moments - while that did not come true, the center-Yuzu shots we got were so endearing. I was smiling so hard from the campiness of it all, starting with the traditional FaOI introduction.
(It's going to be a long post, so read more below - media included).
Back when I was "learning" about who Yuzuru Hanyu is, I stumbled upon recordings of previous FaOI & other ice shows - I distinctively remember there was this one video where the announcer introduces Yuzu, and he starting jumping when the announcer goes "Yuzuru" - and lands on "Hanyu". I was never able to identify from which ice show that was - and while the intro music of FaOI was playing and moment for Yuzu got closer, I kept on thinking maybe he does it now. AND YUZU DID! "Yuzuru" *jumps* "Hanyu" *lands*. (Sound On)
I was smiling so hard. And then that camera-work. Thank you, Yuzu, for making even the people behind the screen feel seen (I haven't realized until now that the people watching the cinemas saw a huge Yuzu doing this.)
Tumblr media
The whole J-Disco number was so fun to watch and in the panned out shots my eyes kept drifting towards Yuzu's spot - not necessarily because I was specifically looking for him, but because he seemed to put his heart and soul into that choreography, as always. He simply was more into it that everyone else. Oh, that MJ circle-moonwalk thingy at the beginning of Afternoon Parade ... so smooth, so cool.
Tumblr media
The other skaters were all so fun to watch, but, not gonna lie, Nobu killed it with his Kinky Boots program. Kaori was such a joy to watch, Mai too with her killer 2Ts. Keiji, loved both his programs. What the hell was that Swan parody thing? How am I supposed to watch Notte Stellata now without flashbacks to this parody?!
Yuzu's Real Face! The moment I've been waiting for since the first pics dropped. That program is so wild and crazy and angsty and full of great moves and expression even though it's rough around the edges - but the beauty of it lies in its rawness. Not gonna lie, that water cup moment felt a bit underwhelming because he poured it on his hair instead of face, but it's okay, it was still iconic. (And what do you mean, Yuzu, that you had no idea what would happen when you poured water on you like that?? That us, poor fans, would simply nod along and move on from it?? You knew very well we'd go crazy!)
About the elements from the program - that besti squat is on equal footing if not above the casual spread eagle (for reference, here).
Tumblr media
Yuzu's 3A is a monster jump and when performed with anger, it is the king of jumps. That pistol lunge, I so wish we'd seen it from the front and not the back (damn it, Asahi TV cameramen, do a better job). Once more I've been reminded that Yuzu has amazing spins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That ending pose and the change in attitude - whiplash!!
Tumblr media
I felt a change of energy from him when he came back for the finale - and noticed that there was no black bracelet on his right arm. I swear that everytime I saw that bare wrist I kept wondering why my gaze was drawn there. Turns out, Yuzu tossed his bracelet along with the infamous water cup, but all good - he found it afterwards, we have photo confirmation of that.
Tumblr media
The finale, even with the bracelet-hiccup, was fun to watch - Kaori: a ray of sunshine - the artist's voice was so good and it was fun to watch the light choreography. Still, those feather things - they remind me of Furbies for some reason. Oh, and check this out: I swear I almost did one heart in return.
Tumblr media
I did not want the show to end - but it ended in the best possible way: 4T3A2T1Lo1Lo1Lo (the loops with rippon arms -> they are now called Yuzu-fairy jumps).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuzu fist-bumping everyone, his cuteness when he did the heart arms with Elladj was killer. And, of course, the traditional ARIGATO GOZAIMASHITA! What an experience.
I am so looking forward to the next live broadcast and to the recorded ones as well. My first time watching FaOI and it paid off!

Uno Shoma "giving back" and reaching out through new online channel
This article by Shintaro Kano was published on the Olympic Channel on 25/08/2020 (so...uhm today)
PyeongChang 2018 silver medallist plans to speak up via recently launched YouTube channel, and says "I don't think people know how much I love gaming".
Uno Shoma will be the first to tell you he did not have a great figure skating season. But amid the trials, tribulations and a global pandemic, the Japanese star has found his voice and a new passion - YouTube.
"YouTubers amaze me. I know how incredible they are, now that I'm doing it myself", the PyeongChang 2018 men's silver medallist said on Tuesday (25 August) during a two-hour YouTube sit-down with professional gamer Shogun.
"I don't really know what motivates me to do anything. I don’t like losing so that definitely has something to do with it. But I like going through the process of improving, getting better at things - be it gaming or skating.
"And now, I want to use my influence, my voice to help the world become a better place. I’ve never really had the desire to do things for other people before.
"But this past season I wasn't great and only then did I truly come to appreciate the people who have been there for me through thick and thin. That's when I realised I wanted to give back.
"Skating was become something I felt like I had to do but now it’s become something I want to do again. I haven't been very good at saying things like this but it's how I feel now - and I want to say it".
"In any other year, this is usually the time for ice shows but the year has been dead and I wanted to do something. I wasn’t on social media speaking my mind like others but at the same time, I wanted to do something different from everyone". Uno said, referring to the YouTube channel he launched earlier this month.
Home alone
While uncertainty continues to surround figure skating and the entire sporting community due to the coronavirus, staying home has not been an issue for Uno who, thanks to his love for gaming, confesses he has very little urge to leave his house - COVID or not.
"I never go out. I don’t need to eat out. I don't really have the desire", he says.
"I don't think people know how much I love gaming. Coming back to Japan after one competition I didn't do very well in, I pushed myself to train and didn't play games for three weeks.
"That was absolutely brutal to me, not being able to game for three weeks. I don't think people understand how hard that was".
Uno said ever since he was a child, he has never been one to dwell on things and dismisses those who say he is mentally strong. "I might even be below average in terms of mental strength", he said.
If anything, he is prepared to walk or flee from pressure situations if the 22-year-old feels that is the best course of action for him to take.
"I'm not afraid to run if I have to. I know some see that as a sign of weakness but not me. I will run if necessary".
No regrets
The 2019-2020 season was a turbulent one for Uno.
While he held off the imperious Hanyu Yuzuru to capture his fourth successive national championship in December, Uno, officially without a coach until shaking hands with Stephane Lambiel, failed to qualify for the Grand Prix Finals and pulled out of the Four Continents needing time to ready himself for the world championships.
While some might be concerned with the path Uno has led post-PyeongChang, he does not see it that way.
Asked if he would take back any of the decisions he has made over his career - or his life for that matter - Uno's answer was unshakable: "No.
"I don’t see any experience as a waste of time. If Uno Shoma had to live his life all over again, I don’t think I could lead the same life even if I tried. I really have zero regrets."
"Failure is failure only if you look at it like that. Whether anything ends in failure is up to you. If you learn or take away from an experience, it’s not failure.
"When I was a kid I was always asked what my future goal was and I always said I didn't have one. I was told by adults to say it's the Olympics but it's the only reason I said so back then.
"But as I got older I asked myself what it is that I really wanted to do. I know the Olympics means the world to a lot of people and this might sound rude, but the Games is not my ultimate goal.
"I don’t think too much about anything - not even about what I'm going to do tomorrow. Today, this day right here, means everything to me. I don’t really think about the Olympics because I don’t overthink about tomorrow - or the future beyond for that matter.
"I've always taken it one day at a time and only then did the Olympics become a reality for me".

Before retirement, Senka star remembers a miraculous 22 years - Hanagata Hikaru
I am currently focusing on translations of show scripts, but I hope to post new article/interview translations around once a week!
This interview with Hanagata Hikaru discussing her upcoming retirement was first published in April. It was recorded before the originally intended Tokyo opening of the show, so it does not reference the further delays and closures.
The interview was written by Murakami Kumiko and published in Nikkan Sports’ column ‘Melodius Takarazuka’. Click through for pictures!
Before retirement, Senka star remembers a miraculous 22 years - Hanagata Hikaru
Senka star Hanagata Hikaru, who is planning to retire, took part in an interview ahead of her final performance. She has been in the company for 22 years. When asked what was foundational to creating her characters, Hanagata, who is a master of manliness, replied 'tone of voice'. Her final role, in the Star Troupe production Valley of Xuanyao/RAY, is the enemy of the protagonist. When establishing her character as a general, she decided he needed 'a deep voice'. After cancellations, the closing performance took place in the Takarazuka Grand Theatre in Hyogo prefecture, and she bid farewell to her beloved home turf.
This is her final performance as a Takarasienne. After the interview, she wrote the kanji 'heart' on an autograph panel. 'This is the end of a 22-year spring. That's a long time, such a long time.' She is the classmate of former Star Troupe Top Star Yuzuki Reon. Although Hanagata is of a small size for an otokoyaku, she honed her allure as one of 'The Otokoyaku' of Flower Troupe.
After transferring to Senka in July of 2014, she was challenged with a broad variety of new roles. Her performance as Binbougami [God of Poverty] in the 2018 show ANOTHER WORLD, a unique production based on rakugo*, was highly praised.
'[Retirement] is one path out of many that I considered. Finally I concluded 'this is what I want to do' and selected it. I didn't feel the slightest hint of 'is this really it?'--it's the path I chose at the end of a long journey.'
She decided to retire last year, while she was performing in the final show for the previous Star Troupe Top Star, Kurenai Yuzuru. Her last production is the debut performance for Star Troupe's new Top Combi, Rei Makoto and Maisora Hitomi. Although the Takarazuka performance was cancelled due to the effects of the novel coronavirus it held its final show. Hanagata played the antagonist general.
'He's blackhearted, you could say, a real villainous type..'. When putting together the role she felt 'ears' were important, and tried to change her voice during the performance.
'I think the audience ultimately catches things through their ears. If you're in the Grand Theatre, at the far side of the second floor seating, you can't even tell if someone is wearing a beard or not. The ears come first. In this show, I use a really deep voice, like it's echoing through the earth. Something you feel you could cut through with a knife.'
When looking back on her life in Takarauka, she thought 'Was it really me who did all that?' At times she concentrated too much on her roles, and they started to intrude on her daily life like an 'unwelcome guest'. While she was performing in Gin-Chan's Love in 2008, someone pointed out 'Why do you keep moving your shoulders so much?'
'Even though they're all men, the posture and way of walking is always different. There are people like Michael Leitch, and people like Yuzuru Hanyu. Since I'm creating a 'person', the way of walking and voice will change every time. Since I live trying to get deeper into character, it'll pop up in my personal life, too.'
This reply is based in her deep experience as a star pursuing what it means to be an otokoyaku. When jokingly asked 'how much can you say' about her life post retirement, she replied 'I probably won't continue' working on stage.
'How I feel right now is, I got this far into this because I loved being an otokoyaku. As for "blooming outside Takarazuka" that isn't something I want to do at all. I don't have any real interest in being an actress...'
While she was in middle school, one of her acquaintances recommended Takarazuka, and she resolved to enter, succeeding in passing the entrance exam.
'Compared to the 106-year history [of Takarazuka], 22 years isn't even a quarter of it. But it feels like a miracle to me. The ratio [of acceptance to the Takarazuka Music School], the ratio was really memorable too**. I never thought of giving up for a moment, but looking back now I'm just glad I didn't end up losing.'
Each year, around 40 girls enter Takarazuka. Only a few ever gain prominence, let alone become Top Star. '22 years. A child born then would already be an adult, starting their job search...' she said, thinking of the flow of time.
'Being an otokoyaku is something you can only do here. The tradition advances, and there are different eras and styles. For people who don't know Takarazuka, I think we might look a bit silly to them in some ways. But I like the worldview of this as being 'right', I like the unique way time flows here.'
As the 'otokoyaku' she loves being, she is bidding farewell to her country of dreams with her memories of Takarazuka in her heart.
* A traditional Japanese comedy format.
** I could not find details for the ratio of acceptance for the 85th class, but the record of difficulty to entry was set in 1995, 2 years before Hanagata passed the TMS exam, so it was likely also a high-difficulty year.

This work is inspired by @bun-o-ween ‘s fic Kiss & Cry because I adore it so far and figure skater Ciel warms my heart.
I watched Yuri! on Ice when it came out a few years ago and while I love watching it, I wasn’t that interested in ice-skating. After reading Bun’s fic I kinda remembered ice-skating exists and started watching some YouTube videos about it, including all of Yuzuru Hanyu’s performances who I instantly fell in love with. The championships being cancelled was as disappointing to me as it was for every other fan so, to lift my (and hopefully some others’) spirits, I decided to draw my two favourite things: Ciel and ice-skating.
The outfit Ciel is wearing in this is a combination of one of Hanyu’s outfits and the costume Ciel wears in the circus ark. I used this as a reference.
Well, long story short: I’ve watched about ~60 hours worth of ice-skating performances and explanations of every jump and spin there is to learn more about the sport I now so obsess over. All thanks to your lovely fic, @bun-o-ween

How similar are Hanyu Yuzuru and Katsuki Yuri? - The Never Ending Debate
Tumblr media
Hi all,
Nakamina here again with a long blog post. Now before ya’ll get triggered from this title please read the following.
So about a year ago I made a Yuzu fan video (which you can find below) and I have received many comments since comparing him to Yuri from the anime ‘Yuri!!! on ICE’ (YOI) which is a figure skating themed anime that aired in the fall of 2016.
The kind of comments being:
“Yuzu is the real Yuri!“ (<- pretty much got about 10+ of these)
“He is the inspiration of Yuri”
“He looks so much like Yuri”
“He reminds me of Yuri”
“Yuzuru Hanyu and Javier Fernandes look like Yuri and Viktor!”
youtube
Now, this is really no surprise since I used the anime’s opening song ‘History Maker’ for this video, although the video itself really does not make any reference to the anime. But it got me thinking…how similar/different are they actually??
DISCLAIMER: I would just like to say that this comparison is purely for fun and I am not here to put down Yuzuru Hanyu nor YOI. I became a fan of Yuzu long before YOI came out and I am also a massive anime otaku. So obviously, I support both fandoms and am not here to discredit one or the other. I thought this would be something interesting since so many people point it out and I genuinely want to nut out their differences and similarities in a neutral and unbiased manner for once, since this topic seems to only ever bring in a cat fight between the figure skating fandom and anime fandom… Let’s change that!
Yuzuru Hanyu vs Katsuki Yuri
SIMILARITIES
Tumblr media
Race and Cultural Background
I guess this is an inevitable similarity since they come from the same country and culture. Yes, they are both Japanese and have black hair, black eyes, wears glasses…etc the list goes on. I mean Yuzu probably also likes Katsu-don too (maybe). These similarities are applicable to most Japanese men really, and hence why I think this is the main aspect that a lot of people tend to focus and highlight on.
Tumblr media
Idolising a Russian Skater
What a lot of the people also point are the two’s idolisation towards a Russian skater. This is also no surprise. When I first saw YOI I too thought that this was very reminiscent of Yuzu’s idolisation towards Evgeni Plushenko. They both grew up watching their Russian idols on TV and consider them as their ultimate inspiration. Yuzu also has formed quite a friendly relationship with Plushenko since, and has even gone far as to use one of his iconic pieces for his 2018-2019 free program - ‘Tribute to Nijinsky’. Much like how Yuri skates to Viktor’s choice of music and choreography, and wears one of his previous costumes for his short program in the anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hometown Support
This is probably a less obvious one but in YOI there is a decent sense of “Jimoto ai” - hometown love. There are a number of scenes where it depicts the support Yuri receives from his home town. As many would know Yuzu also receives a lot of support from his hometown in Sendai/Miyagi, and Yuzu himself has also raised many funds for the recovery from the 2011 earthquake. They are both from different prefectures, but their love for their hometown are quite alike.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Relationship with Family
With all that being said, I think the most noteworthy thing the two have in common is their family bond. Yuri is shown to have a strong relationship with his family, and from what I know Yuzu also does with his family, notably his mother. Family & love is a reoccurring theme in YOI. Yuri’s quote from ep 4: “...my family never treated me like a weakling. They all had faith that I’d keep growing as a person, and they never stepped over the line.”.  Yuzu has also stated in an interview after his second Olympic win that the people he feels the most gratitude towards is his family, for their unconditional support throughout his whole skating career. I personally think this is the most significant alikeness between the two that a lot of people seem to undermine. Yuri’s family has unconditionally loved and believed in him (as quoted from the anime), which I think is very similar to that of Yuzu’s relationship with his family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DIFFERENCES
Tumblr media
Track Record
In terms of track record, the two are quite different. Yes, the two are Japan National Champions but when speaking at an international level the differences are apparent. Yuri is more of a late bloomer as a competitive skater while Yuzu is very much an early bloomer. Yuri first medalled at the GPF at age 24 (Re YOI ep12), whereas Yuzu first medalled at the GPF at the age of 17. Also, Yuri first qualified for the GPF at age 23 (Re YOI ep1) while Yuzu first qualified for the GPF at age 16. By the age of 23 Yuzu has also won numerous other international titles such as 2x World Championship golds, 4x GPF golds and 2x Olympic golds. So there are some stark differences in terms of their career progression. Now I know the Olympics and Worlds were not mentioned in the anime; however, judging from the whole tone of the anime and what was heard from Yuri’s monologues, the likelihood of him winning one of these titles in the past is very low. Although I would say Yuri winning the 4CC (Four Continents Championships) is a possibility.
Side note: Actually looking into their track records has made me realise how rapid and incredible Yuzu’s achievements were… no wonder he is called a living legend. Yuri’s track record by all means is very impressive as well, as it is a lot more than what most figure skaters can ever achieve in their life time.
Tumblr media
Personality
Another major difference is their personality. Yes, they are both very competitive and hate to lose, but from what I have seen Yuri easily gets anxious and lacks confidence. We can see that from the way he desperately avoids to even listen to the other performances in episode 7 in order to calm his nerves. Of course this gradually changes in Yuri, and we see that he learns to handle the pressure better in competitions. As for Yuzu, he lives off pressure and gets motivated the more his competitors do well. Yuzu has stated that his “ideal” way of winning is for him to defeat the other competitors when they are are at their best.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Skating skills/style
Yuzu, at this point in time, can jump the quad salchow, quad toe-loop, quad loop & quad lutz. Yuri is able to do the quad salchow, quad toe loop and…the quad flip, which just happens to be the one quadruple jump (excluding the axel) that Yuzu cannot do. Interesting aye?
Also, Yuzu is very much an all rounded skater, and has been for the majority of his senior career. He is well renowned for possessing great artistry and technical skills that are on par with each other. Whereas Yuri’s strength leans more towards the components/artistic side of skating (Refer to YOI ep 4). Yuri is very expressive in the way that he performs and interprets music quite well, but he has the tendency to flop when it comes to his jumps. However, this too gradually changes following Viktor’s coaching as he starts to polish up Yuri’s skills in other areas too.
New York Times Article on Yuzuru Hanyu:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Body Type, Physical Condition
Yuri, in the anime, is very susceptible to binge eat and gains weight easily. His love for food, especially Katsu-don, is clearly depicted in the anime, and it’s apparent that the act of eating brings him joy. Yuzu on the other hand really has no interest in eating, and suffers from the total opposite concern of being unable to gain weight.
Another stark difference is their stamina. Yuri’s stamina has always been one of his strengths; whereas Yuzu suffers from asthma and has struggled with stamina especially during his early senior years.
Tumblr media
Final Verdict/Thoughts
So I think we can see that Yuzu and Yuri are somewhat similar in terms of race, background and upbringing, but are quite different in terms of personality, skating skills/style and track record.
I like to actually think that bits of Yuzu’s traits are shown through not just Yuri but multiple characters in YOI. He has the charisma of Viktor, drive of Yurio and love/affection of Yuri. Just like how we see bits of Yuzu in lot of these characters, the character of Yuri was inspired by various iconic skaters; noteworthy ones being Machida Tatsuki and Takahashi Daisuke.
Many people worked hard to create this anime, just like how Yuzu has worked his butt off to get to where he is now. I think it is okay for people to compare the two, just as long as you respect and acknowledge the fact that Yuri is his own character and Yuzu is his own person. I think it is great that a lot of people found out about Yuzu and Figure Skating through this anime. I’m also sure that there are people who got into YOI as they were initially part of the figure skating fandom or were Yuzu fans (like myself!).
I sincerely hope people have not been offended by this blog. I tried being objective as possible. Adios until my next post!

What's in a Name? — The Realm of Yuzuru’s Chinese Nicknames
Having spent quite a number of months stalking peeking around on one of China’s most popular social media sites, Weibo, one of the most interesting things I’ve noticed is the range of nicknames that Chinese fans have for Yuzu. The flexibility of the Chinese language allows for the creation of many cute/clever nicknames that may be more difficult in other languages, especially English. And Yuzu has...many.
In this post, I’ll be talking about these nicknames of his and how they fit into the scope of certain nicknaming conventions and/or cultural references. Some have deeper meanings than others, but all are a testament to how much love Yuzu receives. I hope you find it somewhat interesting!
I chose a few to focus on; ones that I've noticed are used fairly frequently while being specific to Yuzu (as opposed to terms of affection that can be and are used for other people). By no means is this an exhaustive list!
General nicknames:
柚子 (yòu zi) = "pomelo; yuzu"
This is the equivalent of “Yuzu” for us English speakers, but the characters literally refer to the fruit as opposed to just being an abbreviation of “Yuzuru.” In my opinion, just the meaning makes this very endearing.
哈牛 (hā niú) 牛 (niú) = "cow; ox"
The first, 哈牛 (hā niú), isn’t technically supposed to have any meaning since it’s a transliteration of “Hanyu.” If you really wanted to, you could translate it as “[sound of laughing] cow” (and probably get a good number of memes out of it, which is always a plus). But it sounds adorable, and that’s what matters here, right? Lots of people also shorten it to the second term, 牛 (niú). Yes, as in the bovine; as in “moo.”
However, the character 牛 (niú) that appears in both cases is also a frequently used slang term that’s utilized when describing something as awesome, strong, capable, etc. In this case, 牛 (niú) itself is a shortening of the term 牛逼 (niú bī), which has rather vulgar origins...but I’ve seen people use it regularly anyway, lol. It can be considered the equivalent of saying in English that something is “f*cking awesome.” Many prefer to censor it by typing 牛B (niú B), which has similar pronunciation, or using only 牛 (niú), which can be used safely in most scenarios—and is also Yuzu’s nickname. (The character 逼 [bī] is commonly attached to many words to create intense descriptors that may be very offensive depending on the context. Dropping it avoids that, for the most part.)
That all being said, calling Yuzu “牛” (niú) is most likely a direct result of the transliteration and not of an attempt to say that he’s amazing. However, I also think that it’s next to impossible that this nickname’s popularity isn’t because of its double meaning. Who knows; perhaps the transliteration itself was decided upon with that specific character to make sure everyone knows he’s amazing.
Nicknames related to programs:
Romeo and Juliet I:
Tumblr media
小罗密欧 (xiǎo luō mì ōu) = “little Romeo”
Self-explanatory in meaning. I included this because it’s adorable. I need no other reason!
Additionally, though, 小 (xiǎo) does not just mean “little.” It is also used as an affectionate term that goes in front of names or specific characters in names, like a friendly prefix.
Let’s Go Crazy:
Tumblr media
疯儿 (fēng er) = “crazy child”
In terms of name construction, the character 儿 (er) literally means “son,” but is very frequently attached to the ends of other words as a colloquialism. In this context, it can be read as a form of endearment.
Occasionally, Chinese people give nicknames to one another based on the person’s physical characteristics, personality attributes, or other descriptors. They may use the relevant adjective in place of a name and sometimes may alter it to make it sound sweeter, etc.; like in this case, 儿 (er) has been added to the adjective for crazy, 疯 (fēng). These types of nicknames don’t tend to translate well, but I think it works well here: "crazy child” sounds like something I’d call him in this program.
Hope and Legacy:
Tumblr media
九儿 (jiǔ er) = “ninth child” 九仙 (jiǔ xiān) = “ninth immortal”
This is an interesting one and also the reason I was inspired to make this post. I kept seeing people call him “九儿” (jiǔ er) whenever Hope and Legacy came up. It has a nice ring to it. But I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why this was used. Nine? Nine what? Nine why?
As mentioned for Let’s Go Crazy, the 儿 (er) in the first nickname is attached colloquially. In the second, 仙 (xiān) is the term for an immortal or other transcendent being. Though not limited to Yuzu at all, people like to use this to describe him when he simply appears too perfect to be human—like when he performs Hope and Legacy, for example. It’s similar to when we say things like “he’s a god,” but an important distinction is that 仙 (xiān) encompasses a certain level of grace and elegance.
So what’s with the “nine” in both variations? I did some research, and there’s no connection between the actual number and his Hope and Legacy costume. Apparently, these nicknames became prevalent after some Chinese fans noted a visual similarity between the hues of his costume and those of a popular national park in the Sichuan province called 九寨沟 (jiǔ zhài gōu):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s so beautiful, particularly the water. Seeing the connection, fans adopted the 九 (jiǔ) character from the park name and applied it to Yuzu when he’s in his Hope and Legacy costume.
Otoñal:
Tumblr media
秋秋 (qiū qiū) = “autumn” x2
This one’s based on how the program title “Otoñal” means “autumnal.” In Chinese, the program is translated as “秋日” (qiū rì); “autumn day.”
It’s common to take one character (from someone’s name or an existing nickname) and repeat it twice in order to emphasize the endearment, which is what’s happening here with 秋 (qiū). Simple as it is, the way it sounds when spoken is very pleasant.
Haru Yo, Koi:
Tumblr media
小樱花 (xiǎo yīng huā) = “little cherry blossom” 樱樱 (yīng yīng) = “cherry blossom” x2
Another two with easy connections to this springtime program. Both utilize some of the conventions I mentioned before and have that connotation of delicate, cute beauty.
Do you have any favorites from this post? Are there any interesting nicknames you use for Yuzu, or are you limited to transliterations as well? I’m super jealous of other languages’ abilities to create nicknames with meanings without being awkward.
Hopefully this was a fun read for you! If there’s anything I didn’t explain well enough or if you’re just curious about something related, I’d be happy to clarify as best I can. Thank you for reading!

Ambesi’s Winter  Corner - Figure Skating
I’m a figure skating fan, I’ve been a casual one for some years now, and since last year, I’ve got more involved with groups and everything. I love learning new things, so I took the opportunity of being surrounded by so many people who know TONS about it and ran with it :D. I’m on an international fan group and one of the best commentators about the sport is the Italian Massimiliano Ambesi, who is really so interesting to read and listen. So sometimes, with other Italian fans, I help people in the international group by translating Ambesi’s commentary or articles. This is an extract from Winter Corner, where he talks about severl winter sports, and I translated the part about figure skating. I hope it’s useful somehow! This is the original article: LINK Q: Massimiliano, let’s start with one of our features in the feature. In your opinion, who was the ATHLETE OF THE WEEK? A: “Forever and ever Alena Kostornaia: in the Grand Prix final in Turin she was the clear-cut winner of the competition, with the highest technical level ever seen in the history of the sport, and she even allowed herself the luxury of establishing a new World Record. By the way, it is possible that in the sum of the components she could go even better, allowing her to get more than 250 points in a spotless competition, and all this without quadruple jumps. At the moment, she represents the best synthesis between technical skills and artistic quality. The only minor flaw in the final was that she was not the winner of every single segment of the competition, as she had been before. In the free skate her training companion Anna Shcherbakova preceded her by mere tenths of point. For this, it was determining the triple axel + triple toeloop combination although from a negative point of view, that she completed with less quality compared to the one at the NHK Trophy some weeks ago. In any case, Alena improved her personal records in every segment of the competition, both TES and PCS, and this, at the end of the game, is definitely resounding because, we can say it now, she competed with a problem of unknown gravity to one shinbone. The victory in the Grand Prix Final will probably guarantee her a place for the European and World championships regardless of what will happen at the Russian National Championship.”
Q: A question arises then, if you want a bit obvious. Who can beat her? A:“There are three skaters that can have the chance to compete with her at the same level, both in this moment and in the future. As for the future, it’s impossible not to mention the Japanese Rika Kihira, although she needs to recover her full physical health, and, consequently, the triple Lutz she had to forcibly put aside. In the short-term, instead, Anna Shcherbakova and Alexandra Trusova, who were preceded by Kostornaia at the Grand Prix Final and are ready to get their re-match in the imminent national Championship at the end of December. The other skaters, in a way or another, are several steps behind as demonstrated not only in the Grand Prix Final, but during the whole season, in which three of Eteri Tutberidze’s students have annihilated the competition in any context. Obviously, the staff directed by the coach with Georgian origins deserves a mention because they established a long series of records that, from now one, can only be matched.
Q: As we opened with Figure Skating, let’s keep it as a topic. I’d like to have your comment on the results of the other competitions on the other Grand Prix Finals that were held in Turin. A: “We witnessed four competitions with clear-cut results, besides the final leads. In the single competitions, the victory went to two skaters, Kostornaia and Chen, who completed every planned element, improving the world record. In the Ice Dance and even more in the Pair Skating, the indisputable favourites of the eve won, Papadakis/Cizeron and Sui/Han, although there was some minor mistake here and there. The most problematic segment of competition was the Rhythm Dance: during that you could feel the competitors’ tension, but everything got back to normal for the free dance.
Q: You haven’t mentioned it, but I'd like to know your opinion about the multiple complaints about the scores in the Men's single competition. What is your idea about it? A: "First things first, Nathan Chen is the worthy winner of the final, and he deserved his result on the field, but his skating isn’t worth the scores that he gets. Right now, there's a clear problem on the attribution of the GOE and on the evaluation of the program components. More quadruple jumps can't automatically mean more PCS, and especially when the necessary requirements are not present, over-scoring the jump elements should not be possible, but it's not just that. The current score system doesn't work well right now. It's not only a problem of lack of proportionality between the TES and the PCS, which is well known, I also think that the situation was way worsened when they changed the GOE attribution system at the beginning of this Olympic four-year period. In my opinion, the current rules are not applied correctly because no judge, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise, is able to evaluate in real/almost real-time the many elements of the programs, with precise references to the six bullet points that are to be referenced in the rules, to the possible deductions that may happen, and don't forget that at the same time they also have to evaluate the five scores of the components. With this statement, I'm not saying that the judges are not competent to do that, but simply that the current GOE assignment system is not applicable in such a short time as what they have. The example, in this sense, can be represented by any segment of the competitions in this season. I invite everyone to compare the quad Salchows made by Hanyu and Chen in the free skate in Turin, jumps that, inexplicably, obtained the same GOE. Thus, if it is not possible, for reasons that I think are understandable, to apply the rules as they were thought, maybe it would be better to create something different, so that anyone can adjust accordingly, and they can avoid losing credibility. Obviously, my premise is that there's no deceit, although, after having seen some people at work, I might have a doubt about that. In any case, I'll ignore it for now, and go forward, even if I'm quite perplexed. We need corrective measures, and we need them as soon as possible, but I'm not convinced that those who are in charge of these decisions may be able to intervene."
Q: With an answer like this, I cannot help asking you if Yuzuru Hanyu can beat a Chen who, in fact, is able to carry out every planned element. A: "In a competition with spotless programs for both of them, the victory would go to the Japanese skater. I have no doubt about it, because he is one step ahead in every score entry. In the free skate in Turin, the base value planned by Hanyu, counting the highest GOE possible, was 0,8 points above Chen's. Thus, they are on basically even ground on this. It's clear that Chen is more at ease in completing five quadruple jumps. The American skater, in this sense, is favoured by his skating: he spends less energy because he clearly covers less ice and has more two-footed skating, and this advantage still remains even though Hanyu had to simplify his free skate, compared to the previous ones, to be able to put in five quadruple jumps as well. In any case, it needs stressing that the Japanese man's jumps are better in quality, which means more height (in the final, the height for every jump was measured and the difference was embarrassing), the width, the entrance, the exit position, and a lot of other elements. Chen demonstrated to be superior on the athletic point of view, and on this part Hanyu will have to work in order to overcome this situation. Besides, another important difference is where the jumps are placed. Chen starts with his three most difficult elements in the first half (not in bonus zone), and two of them are combination jumps, and has a second part that is lighter than Hanyu's, who instead wants to execute three difficult combinations as the last three jump elements. I think that in Toronto they'll need to think about this. In general, I still think that the comparison on the PCS is out of the question, because the Olympic champion has an advantage on every item, in particular on the less subjective ones, like skating skills and transitions. Especially in the short program, the difference is even higher. It is clear that it's still necessary for Hanyu to complete every planned jump. In Turin, for the first time in his career, he was able to complete five quadruple jumps, of four different kinds, Lutz included. Surely, this is an important starting point for the future. As for the rest, we can only wait for the next competition.
