I feel like people are focusing too much on the sex in Challengers. Don’t get me wrong - I don’t have a problem with it, but I feel like we’re not talking enough about how there isn’t actually any sex in the movie. There’s no threesome scene like the trailer suggested, there’s not even a monogamous sex scene. There’s a lot of making out and implications of some sort in almost every scene, but in terms of what it shows, it’s unusually tame for a movie I’ve seen being called the “sexiest film of the year.” There’s a bit of nudity, but almost always in a comical context. Because of all the innuendos and such, I completely understand that it is viewed as a sexy film, but I feel like it’s diminishing to label it as JUST a sexy film. It’s surprisingly complex and has much more to do with the psychological aspects of the trio’s relationship than the physical ones.

Did I see the Haikyuu movie last night? Yes I did.

Scenes from the end below the cut + some of my ramblings.

Did I go in knowing full well that Nekoma losses? Yes I did.

Did I still cry at the end with this scene? Damn right I did.

If I had told my 16 year old self that 8 years after they started watching this silly volleyball anime that I would be in theaters, at 11 pm, crying because "oh my god they've come so far" I think she wouldn't believe it. This story, as I've come to grow with it, while both watching and reading, has become so much more than a story about people playing volleyball. As someone who used to play and no longer does, i appreciate that it was realistic with the knowledge that not everyone will continue, but just because people leave or they stop playing, that doesn't mean those memories, those moments, weren't important.

I guess just all of that is me rambling about the love that I have felt for this for the last 8 years, and it feels so fucking weird saying that.

I'm still here and I don't plan on leaving any time soon ❤️

I Saw the TV Glow…

this movie moved me in a way i didn’t think it would. it put everything i’ve ever felt about being queer into this beautifully disturbing imagery. i will personally be thinking about this movie for the next few weeks lol

Just watched Monkey Man yesterday and I have some thoughts…

obviously, MAJOR spoilers below

Isn’t it incredible just how quickly Baba Shakti turns from a righteous, self-elevated figure to groveling, begging, and pleading for his life? When, just moments before, he was so confident in his ability to avoid the effects of continuing to “perpetuate the cycle of violence”. He was relaxed, nonchalant, even arrogant when speaking to Kid/Bobby. Baba thinks that his words and station will absolve him of any accountability for the damage he has caused in the name of gaining power.

The whole film, Baba is practically deified by his followers. The way that he speaks to people, the way he moves— he fashions himself untouchable. He thinks he’ll always come out on top. But the moment he’s on the floor, beaten and bleeding profusely, death bulldozing his way at full speed— all of that fades away.

He’s blubbering, crying, likely pissing his pants. He even has the utter audacity to beg for mercy, when you know he has never granted anyone mercy out of self-righteousness. He truly believes that he is the exception to facing consequences for abusing the power you’re given. You can see Kid’s eye give the slightest twitch, as if surprised (but not really surprised) by just how pathetic this man is.

Then Kid gives the final blow.
