This is very random but. I think a lot about the name of my oc Rüß. It was originally just a stand-in name and was spelled "Russ." But I didn't want people to pronounce it "Ruh-ss" so I changed it to "Ruß" and then to "Rüß" bcs that's the way to pronounce it but it was also fun to use special characters. But then ended up at the same place I started: some people still won't know how to pronounce her name bcs the ü and ß 😭 I think my one friend called her "Rub" in her head for a while. But it is now eternally her name and I don't call her by her full name :)

oh yeah I mean I imagine so. The thing about ladies and dogs in those days especially that I get the vibe about (and anyone who knows differently please fact check me) is that Neptune is very specifically a *working* dog (actually I saw this imax movie once about dogs with jobs- newfoundlands are specifically bred to SWIM -they have very webbed paws that help them do this- and to help rescue folks who are DROWNING- and specifically with their thick fur they're very well suited to colder weather and are well insulated to be waterproof. So him being there is not entirely a frivolity on crozier's part but a practicality thing (especially since a lot of sailors in those days didn't actually know how to swim). But anyway. my POINT here is that... women (especially of higher status and birth) wouldn't have interacted or wanted to be around working dogs like that so much- lap dogs and spaniels and the like would've been more their speed. So it's probably a little jarring to some of these men for them to see this woman actually risking dirtying her skirt on the deck of the ship to get all up in Neptune's business and show this big pupper affection. And a lot of the other dudes probably find it very odd- but Francis? My Man Francis? There are two wolves inside him about it. The first really respects and sees this as something admirable to be respected. She likes his dog- a working dog. Sees his value but also just loves that creature, and the fact that she's gained his respect enough that he gets super excited when she's aboard and runs right up to her? Considering how many people there are aboard that this pup could get attention from? That's a sign of respect there. But the other wolf in him is watching her give Neptune the most delicious of belly rubs and going "god I wish that were me" (don't worry bud. you'll get your chance 😉).
