Every time YouTube nonsense happens I'm always like "I can't wait to see what Sergle says about this" because you're the only person I follow that talks about YouTube nonsense.
Please take this is an invitation for you to talk about the Watcher's apology video lol
I am a filthy youtube enjoyer so you can absolutely count on me and GODDDDDDDDDDD... I mean the apology is not NEARLY as funny as the blunder, so it hasn't kept my attention as much but like the obligatory upfront thing is that, like, it is good that they posted it, they apologized for being insensitive and whatever, they're not scraping their channel clean or going forward with their old plan to only post their shows on their own platform, and these are technically good and correct things, because they could have pretended not to notice all the negative feedback. So like, responding is good. BUT LIKE I HAVE QUESTIONS NOW... Because they took SO LONG to film and upload a video that basically is just "we fucked up, we're sorry, we're not gonna do that anymore", which doesn't exactly take a writer's room several days to cook, but I DIGRESS... They were quiet for long enough for everyone to LOOK REALLY CLOSE. After the initial reaction, people had time to do some pretty comprehensive cost breakdowns for their stuff, and for what they have to be pulling in from adsense, sponsored segments, patreon, merch, and touring Like, they'd need to be really mismanaging their finances, because they're doing very well for themselves, making good, stable money, and the vids they make are super duper advertiser friendly. SO... you take long enough without putting out a holder statement or a quick heel-turn apology or anything, it gives people more time to get comfortable with not liking you, and also to dig around and google things about you, or scrape up info/trivia about you to corroborate their new opinion of you. It gets personal, is what I mean. So pulling this move has still, at BEST, caused some permanent damage to their relationships with fans, in both directions. They all got a huge flood of negative feedback, and even a perfect, emotionally mature, non-entitled person would have a negative reaction to people being upset with them at such a high volume. But now they're gonna remember the things that people have said about them, and there's no way that at the very least, Steven isn't gonna feel spiteful about this. People TOTALLY unloaded on him (funny) (valid) about his evangelical christian conservative leaning tesla privileged out of touch boy gold flaked ice cream eating ways. He definitely is going to remember that ppl said they never liked him in the first place. As for Ryan and Shane, people didn't have any dirt on them, but they definitely still received a lot of angry messages from people, most of which will have been reasonable, but they're gonna remember the really really mean and intense ones. Anyway, they made a booboo dumb enough for jack to want to make a skit about it, so for that I'm very grateful, because I thought it was really really fucking funny

VCR - Vidding Culture Rescuers
Tumblr media
Each word you read you leads you to the next and hopefully they are compelling enough to have you read this all the way through if you care about preserving Vidding Fandom History. It may be the case there are only 2 people primarily doing the work. Again, if this is a topic that interests you we would lovet to speak with you about how you can participate.
"Oh no, I am not a technical person! I don't think I could help with that and besides isn't that kind of work menial and boring?" I don't blame you for having those thoughts. Again, if this is a topic that interests you it would be worth having a conversation because you would be surprised. If this is a topic that does not interest then I thank you for reading thus far and you can scroll on.
Ok, good. if you are still reading (well of course you are or else you wouldn't being hearing these words in your head) I will tell you why your participation is so, so important. Vids that are rescued depend on those doing the rescuing. Even in physics the results are influenced by the observer. I and my partner do not want to be the sole arbiters of what is rescued and what is not. We need more eyes. You may be able to think of some work that only you know about that is worthy of being preserved.
Our job based on our experience is to show you how easy & fun it is for you to participate.
Join our Patreon! (very simple, financial support counts as support and maybe that's all you need to do to help. Servers cost money.)
Rec vids at VidRecs.com This will put vids on our radar to rescue and you can also check out some awesome vids others have recced.
Join Vidders.net and upload vids You Tube or Vimeo rejects. We already host more vids than AO3 embeds and we will archive them.
Reblogged and/or Like this post to raise awareness for others who might want to participate.
If you are tech savvy, we would love your help and/or feedback. We are too and we have some really cool archive scripts.
Have content you'd like backed up? Contact us so we can collaborate on saving a back up copy. We can be your redundancy.
Have a conversation with us about how you can help. There may be some other small way you can assist we haven't thought of yet.
In all of vidding fandom there are only 2 people preserving Vidding Fandom History that we know of and we don't want to do it alone. We will do it anyway (we've archived thousands of vids no longer available), but your contribution is a force multiplier. We can help you help us and you can help us help you. If this topic interests you, we'd love your help.
Thank you.
How do you contact me? I'll make it super simple. [email protected]. We own the domain. In fact, as a Patreon member you can get your own email forwarder at that domain.

Hello! I know you are currently inbetween PO Boxes so people can't send you stuff right now, but I was wondering if the gift opening vids were still going to be uploaded to YT or if they're patreon-only? I feel like it's been a while since one has been on YT but I know one just came out on patreon a couple weeks ago.
They tend to land on Patreon now because it's pretty much always patrons who send things. I kinda half-assumed that the only people really interested in watching me open stuff were the gift givers, so I stopped worrying about getting those videos over to Youtube. Those Patreon posts should be public (and if not I'll change it real quick).
That was my thought a while ago, though. When I get the new PO box I'll make a Youtube announcement about it and if more people seem into it now I'll be more than happy to post the videos in both places. <3

https://www.sfwa.org/2009/08/fantasy-worldbuilding-questions/ - an enormous set of world-building questions for fantasy and science fiction stories.(edited)
http://rollforfantasy.com/ - generators and guides galore. it's fairly D&D oriented, but its broad enough to work as an aid for any sort of story you want when it comes to building certain elements.(edited)
http://writersrandomramblings.tumblr.com/post/139781578857/elements-of-culture - fantastic chart that helps categorize elements of culture for world-building. really helpful when you're trying to organize your thoughts(edited)
https://www.learnthat.org/pages/view/roots.html - a quick reference for latin and greek word roots. its really helpful if you need to build your own made up words.(edited)
http://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/calendar/ - a cool generator that can help you build a fantasy calendar. not the most robust, but if you need to make something for quick reference it works well
http://www.behindthename.com/ - my personal goto site for names. has a large collection with meanings and everything.(edited)

There is a thing called "Knife Theory," -- while it's primarily referenced for D&D, this gives some ideas on how you can quickly and easily flesh out an exploitable backstory for a character. Every "knife" a storyteller has can be used to further the character arc of someone if you so choose. https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/775caq/my_friends_and_i_have_something_called_knife/
Also gonna drop "Worldbuilding Question of the Day" and the "Original Character Question of the Day" tumblrs: https://wbqotd.tumblr.com/ https://ocqotd.tumblr.com/ World/Character building is optoinal but useful! Your mileage may vary from question to question.

http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter5.html -free word processor software. ywriter may have an ugly site, but the software is immensely useful if you want to collect lots of information in the same place. character profiles? important locations? the outline? all can be contained in a single file. http://wikidpad.sourceforge.net/ -another great, free program. if youre a fan of wikis and would like to store your story notes in a wiki format, this program is great for that.
https://papercatpress.com/ - since this one doesnt really fit art_resources ill put it here. paper cat press is a great resource for finding tons of resources in general. contests, zines, job openings, and so forth! definitely a great thing to have if you're a comic creator.

These are also about site design, only partly intersecting with writing...but there's no coding_resources chat, so I guess I'll put it here? Useful Wordpress plugins for webcomic sites. https://twitter.com/ErinPtah/status/1045091986070556672
Kabocha
Also, if you're using Wordpress, this site is invaluable for keeping up to date with the latest issues that might pop up with various plugins: https://wpvulndb.com/ You can search for various plugins, and sign up for an email digest. We use it at work a lot to make sure nothin' we're using got hit. Also, if you do email through wordpress at all -- get an SMTP auth plugin! It's... well, good because your mail can be rate-limited in case it starts spamming. Also sending authenticated emails will help stuff from getting flagged as spam. It won't stop it, but it will help. Many shared hosts require this. https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-wp-smtp/

If you were wondering how people got things like.... a Patreon icon, or a deviantart icon on their site using a font... Worry no more -- here it is! Also, since I'm thinking about fonts, here's some good places to get free or inexpensive fonts with commercial use licenses: http://typodermicfonts.com/ - Check the "Some Styles Free"/Free tag in the catalog https://creativemarket.com/free-goods - Every week, there's a few new "free" items, one of which is usually a font. https://www.myfonts.com/search//free/?sort=cheap - MyFonts has a free option -- check the licenses on what you download https://www.exljbris.com/ - You may recognize this foundry, but... well, they have some distinctive, useful fonts! Check them out if you get a chance. http://www.blambot.com/ - COMIC FONTS! Some free, some paid. Read the license. https://fonts.google.com/ - Google has a ton of fonts that are available for web use AND download under the MIT open source license. *note: commercial use means like... in your books, or on your website, etc. Read licenses of course, and know what you're allowed to do. Many fonts do not allow you to use them in a graphic that you are trademarking because this may limit other people's use. https://99designs.com/blog/logo-branding/trademarking-a-logo/ If you're thinking about applying for a trademark, talk to your lawyer, not to me.
Artem Ficta (Ring Spell)
Also https://www.fontsquirrel.com/ for free fonts
Erin Ptah (BICP | Leif & Thorn)
I get a bunch of cheap fonts, and other graphics resources, at MightyDeals: https://www.mightydeals.com/
They do limited-time offers of big bundles at huge discounts. Some of them have really nice fonts, others have tiled patterns (I've used them for SO many clothing textures) and clipart elements, that kind of thing.

Putting this here because there's no "coding resources" channel, hope that's all right. Now that a lot of people are suddenly feeling the need to move their webcomics to an independent hosting site, I really to spread this around...if you're going with Wordpress, don't use ComicPress! Use Webcomic 5: https://wordpress.org/plugins/webcomic/ It has more features, it's more versatile, and it's updated much more regularly, with an active support forum if you need it. There's so much you'd be missing out on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXoJYOWFESI This entire channel is great, but this video. (Tenor pointed out to me she uploaded a new vid) EDITING! Also, another CMS for webcomics? Hmmm. It ain't wordpress, at least. http://ptyxis.cthonic.com/ Note: I have not tested this. I cannot speak to how usable this system is. I assume it requires a base willingness to learn html/css at minimum.

Hi all! Here's a favorite link of mind for writing stuff! This is an entire recorded course from Brigham Young University on Writing. It's basically a lecture class by Brandon Sanderson, who's written a few of my fav books. It's a quite good class that covers many main categories of writing fiction! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4ZDBOc2tX8&list=PLH3mK1NZn9QqOSj3ObrP3xL8tEJQ12-vL
Also, I like to plot stories out event-by-event, then scene-by-scene for comics and I found this really cool format for using excel/spreadsheets to do it that I really like. This person uses the technique (they call it God's Eye View) for screenplay writing, so there's a whole thing about color-coding scenes based on what characters are in the scenes that I just don't bother doing, so don't let the crazy rainbow intimidate you! Anyway, it really helped me organize and get a good feel for the overall pacing of the story https://thestorydepartment.com/get-a-gods-eye-view-of-your-story/ Enjoy!

This is a long one and I've split it up into chapters for better ease of viewing. Or for those of you who want me to get to the point since I spend the first bit of this video talking about my medical history so I can establish a baseline. There is also a very, very brief summary on the bottom of each chapter card for the next area if you're curious but you have zero interest in committing any time to that chapter.
Chapters: 00:36 - Childhood & Growing Up Allergic to Life! 04:32 - Early - Mid 20s Or No More Moshing For Me 07:07 - Late 20s Or Food is Suddenly My Enemy 12:52 - My Current Situation Or Stop the World, I Want to Get Off 26:55 - Living with Chronic Migraines Or Life Goes On... Somehow... 32:25 - Progress, Despite Migraines Or "If you're so limited, why and how can you be a YOUTUBER?!"
I just thought I'd share a little about the progression of my health and why I whine on twitter about brain fog or not being able to do much some days while celebrating simple things like being able to get up and eat something or get a little recording done in others.
Also, like previous videos I've posted, I believe chronic illness falls into the realm of needing more people to stand up publicly and be counted because it's still so easy to brush off people with invisible or not easily apparent illnesses.
I also have arthritis, which I didn't think to mention in the video, but that's genetic and as long as it's not flaring up really badly I don't even tend to think much about it. I probably should've mentioned it but I was off script for the whole session and didn't realize I'd missed it until I was halfway through editing. Ah well.
