Things I've noticed while rewatching Days of Heaven (1978) by Terrence Malick
I love the attention to the animals living in the wheat fields. So long as characters are doing well, there are many animals everywhere (dogs, birds, pheasants...). Eventually, as the plot takes a darker turn, this incredible (and visually stunning) biodiversity reduces to just... locusts. You know what happens from there.
Interesting parallels with Christian myths. After the wedding, the farm becomes heaven on Earth for Bill, Abbby and Linda. Bill and Abby break a rule (they show physical affection towards each other), the Farmer gets jealous and decides to take revenge. Abby and Bill are excluded from this heaven, which turns into hell (hence the plague of locusts, the fire, etc).
No one in this movie is a monster. The harm they cause, even intentionally, is always explained in some way by their place in the social hierarchy. Bill and Abby con a rich man, the Farmer underpays his workers and marries an employee, but their behavior is presented as understandable.
In my opinion, the Farmer is the only who ever really did something wrong, when he violently lashes out at the end of the movie. This might have some theological relevance.
Linda being jealous about her brother's relationship with Abby is so cute... And also a little sad. Bill tries to comfort and reassure her, but she's obviously nostalgic of the way things were before this relationship started (see her first monologue, at the start of the movie). I like when she says she feels sorry for the Farmer because he feels alone, when she obviously suffers from loneliness too.
Linda talking about how she would have "put down" the Farmer like a dying horse seems kinda violent at first, but considering the fact the Farmer didn't die lead to a catastrophe, it obviously makes sense.
Linda will be okay. I need Linda to be okay. I shouldn't even worry about it because she WILL BE OKAY.

I went to see the EC movie and it's so fun to watch and they showed people doing push-ups instead of a circle pit during Pump It and I'll never have enough of David talking random bs and Kevin and Nico talking absolute bs at the end of videos, talking over each other, interrupting each other and their camera guy, making their subtitle guy give up on subtitling, I hope they never stop 🥰

also, i went to see across the spiderverse with my best friend who’s also my roommate. he haven’t seen into the spiderverse yet and he is not a fan of comics in general but he figured i’d use some company. and this movie stimulated my neurodivergent ass so much i had to physically restrain myself from telling him all the comic references and stuff that at one point we had to hold hands so i could squeeze my energy out without disturbing him or anyone in general. a true friendship between a neurodivergent sapphic with a hyperfixation on miles morales spidey and a clueless gay man who was just happy to be there.
