You’ve mentioned before how Mothy has soft-retconned his non-canon songs to fit into the broader Evillious lore. Do you have any specific examples of him doing this? I’m genuinely curious about him doing that

I suppose it involves a bit of assumption on my part--there's no way to know what mothy's intentions are without him outright saying so. And I say "soft" retcon because there's usually not a lot of direct contradiction going on to make the retconning super obvious, or there's ways to handwave it. Plus, whether or not these things truly count as having been "non-canon" is a bit murky.

But! Here are some (probably not all) instances where I believe it occurred:

(non-canon to canon)

The Letter she Kept Waiting For was, IIRC, cut content. That is, mothy had originally made it to be the ending of the Daughter of Evil songs, and then he scrapped it. The "reach for the stars" version was made explicitly part of the series.

The Song I Heard Somewhere, combined with the Judgment of Corruption novel, retconned Full Moon Laboratory into being about Irina. I strongly doubt this was mothy's intention when he first made the song.

Ten Minute Love. I love that he made this the conclusion of Evillious, but I have a hard time believing this was the plan when he made it. Pretty sure it's just a cute love song he made when he was trying out Kagamine Rin for the first time.

Slightly more involved, but, Torture Tower Doesn't Sleep (not just the song but the novels too)--he did explicitly say once that this one was unrelated to Evillious, and so a lot of the nods to Evillious were probably non-serious. There's also all the stuff with Amostia--it's my belief that when he made the character in Torture Tower, Amo and Rack were just meant to be a reference to Allen and Riliane, and "Amostia" (their identity when fused together) as a name is in keeping with the naming patterns of the other wraiths in the series. I think Mothy having "the boy" turn into Amostia at the end of Outlaw and Lychgate was his way of making Torture Tower canon by having it be an alternate universe of Evillious. All this is to say, currently I think the "multiverse" plotline that mothy is following at the moment, and the identity of the boy as Amostia, was conceived after Torture Tower, and he retroactively made them relevant.

Fictional Masquerade could...potentially qualify. It was originally written as a song for a game (Engage Princess), so I'm unclear whether mothy intended to always have it be part of his multiverse or if that's another thing that happened later. It's referenced in the Rilia-Renee song. Same with Messengers of the Infinity Mirrors, I suppose, as that was made for a VOCALOID album with multiple other artists participating.

(canon to new canon--not an example of what you're asking about, but involves some retcons anyway)

The original lyrics to A Tale of Abandonment on a Moonlit Night said "just like Hansel and Gretel". Mothy later changed it to "Our names are Hansel and Gretel".

There are a lot of reveals in the OSS novels that don't entirely line up with what we know of OSS from the album booklets and I'll leave it at that (I'm sure many people would argue this is hard retconning).

Mothy has outright said that a lot of his ideas for Re_Birthday changed over the course of the series from when he first made the song, so the Heavenly novel could count as this as well (I do believe it was always intended to be about Allen, however).

I still remember that one time he was thanking his fan for buying his tshirt merch bcs he finally has enough money to commission an animated mv.

Honestly i aspired to be him like whatever project he's cooking i was like "OMg i was planning to do that to!!!". The RPGmaker game, the pixeled vn-styled animation bday stream, detailed, well-planned lore writing etc etc.

2) Charisma House - - - I swear Im not trying to get intro it im just curious so i peeked a little at their ytube channel. Well it basically another music multimedia project under King Records (like Hypmic) and the contents available are songs, drama tracks and manga. BUT, their drama track got English subs tho hypmic could never lmaoo (😢). Imo, while Hypmic has goofy concept with serious execution, Charisma House has goofy concept with goofy execution. I love the comedic elements in the story. (Not fully pay attention to their songs yet.)

3) Enstars - - - Mika' Link Click banner has returnedddd. My broke ass spent whole diamond savings (15k) to that banner and get nothing. (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIKAAAAAA PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS IT'S BEEN 1 YEAR). But then again im not that commit to farm diamonds tho so it is what is it.

Nico: dresses as a generic anime catboy and kinda just hangs out in the living room the whole night

James: dresses as Phantom of the Opera (he uses a golden rose as a prop instead of a red one). He's also the one who opens the door for the trick or treaters

Ghirahim: original idea was a circus ringmaster (someone absolutely insults him about it and says that it fits a clown like him. probably Yuga). However at one point he decided to hide in the bushes in his true form, sitting still like a statue. Proceeded to scare the shit out of kids that walked by, making them drop their candy and bolt, and gave the haul to me afterwards

Midna: You'd think she'd dress sexy but she decided to use her magic to conjure up a perfect cosplay of Thanatos (Hades), giant scythe and all. Hypnos was extremely confused for a little bit

Maxie: suggested both Dexter (Dexter's Lab) and Saiki K to him. He didn't care for either of those ideas and chose to just sit and relax with a cup of hot cocoa. Throughout the evening I keep sneaking tinsel spiders onto him and see how long it takes until he notices

Sousuke: okay slight S/I lore - I planned to draw him as Len Kagamine once when I was like 16 because Len was also around my age (and I had a crush on him) but now that I'm older that would be weird. So Sousuke's going as Kaito now, except he's not as tall as Kaito and the scarf keeps dragging on the floor gkshfj

Pit: INSISTED on the inflatable t-rex costume. runs up and down the streets just having the time of his life. falls over and gets stuck at one point, Palutena laughs from her place in Skyworld for five minutes before finally helping him up with a beam of light. Everyone sees it happen but nobody believes it was real

Yoshimitsu: old-school/classic Mortal Kombat ninja. Regularly performs Friendships.

Fenris: sexy RPG priest/wizard (did not want to, had to be convinced, still hated it)

Sans: t-shirt that says "HALLOWEEN COSTUME" and he hangs out on the porch. People think he's a decorative skeleton but then he says "'sup" and accidentally startles them. Also uses his magic to gently move people out of Ghirahim's jumpscare radius, just to fuck with Ghirahim.

Markus: Put in some fangs and called it a day. He's on standby for when (not if) someone gets hurt (because he knows this house and some dumb shit will probably happen)

Sir Dan: wanted to be Death, so he got the cloak and the scythe. Literally had a "well one of us is gonna have to change" moment with Midna and lost. Ended up staying in his regular armor and absolutely selling it as a classic gallant knight. He may or may not have been the one to "slay the dragon" two blocks down (knocked Pit over in his t-rex suit)

Zen: werewolf (to unleash the beast/big bad wolf thing?)

Abe: does not understand the holiday but had a great time vibing with everyone...till kids started hounding him about his alien costume and he just kinda stayed inside after that fksjf

Link: Lynel (and he insisted on carrying around the Savage Crusher despite it being twice his size)

Kenshi: he heard the obvious suggestions for Daredevil and Keanu Reeves, but ultimately decided to slap on a wizard's hat and hang back doing special effects with Raiden (i.e. making the decor float and almost nailing Ghirahim in the head with one)

Linebeck: Insists on going as himself, because there's no way people wouldn't recognize him - if not for his excellent treasure-hunting escapades, then surely for his bravery during his travels with his Link! Except kids keep asking if he's Jack Sparrow or saying "yar har fiddle dee dee" and he immediately begins helping Ghirahim steal candy from people

Edgeworth: Didn't dress up, but instead is dreading the legal paperwork he'll have to deal with because between Raiden's lightning and Ghirahim's jumpscares, SOMEONE is going to have a heart attack and fucking die

Yuga: insisted he did not need a costume because he was already perfectly showstopping as is. got remarks from kids like "what are you supposed to be, lady?" and "oooh creepy clown guy." had to physically restrain him from turning them into sidewalk chalk

Raiden: Did not want to dress in a full costume, but let me put a wizard hat on him. He was content with providing special effects for extra spooky atmosphere (i.e. lightning that nearly took out Ghirahim). I got to wear his hat 👍🏻

Aizawa: Michelin man (it's his sleeping bag with arms and legs)

Elliott: Prince Eric from the Little Mermaid - he's never really gotten to dress up for Halloween and this is honestly perfectly fitting for him

Chrom: Risen, but like a King Risen. Costume looked terrifying but he couldn't put on a convincing scary act, so he ended up being "that nice zombie king who lives at the lightning house"

Takumi: suggested a sexy pineapple costume. was informed that I would lose fingers if I tried to put him in it. Got him to settle for Robin Hood but he wasn't thrilled about it gkshf

Master Kohga: Garo Master from Majora's Mask. Loved the aesthetic but the cloak kept getting caught on everything. Almost bodyslammed a kid once

Kabbu: the Green Bug Ranger, and you better not ask him who that is because you WILL be stuck there for 15 minutes while he nerds out and explains

Cortex: Generic devil costume with the cape/horns/tail, setting various booby traps just to fuck with the trick or treaters

N. Gin: hastily removing the booby traps that Cortex set behind his back so that we don't get sued

Orbulon: slapped on a witch's hat and called himself the "Nefarious Necromancer of the North." It was his costume last year but he just thought it was so dang great he had to do it again.

Robin: literally just did the sheet-with-eyeholes ghost. He's having a great time gkshfjg

Garry: also a vampire, but specifically how Kouri drew him once for Halloween.

Hypnos: Really vibed with the lazy cat thing Nico had going on, so he was also a cat boy. But he was less lazy and more like "y'know. like, ~nya~"

Special Notes: This is a songfic that was heavily inspired by HachioujiPxGigaP's GimmexGimme feat. Kagamine Rin/Hatsune Miku. As such, this revolved around the idea that one is unfaithful in a relationship to indulge in something. For my fic, the OC Male cheats on Jyushi-chan. The events that happen in this fic is Jyushi-chan's way of retaliating, while also embracing her closeted preference of the fairer sex.

Hana's Notes: I've died for this for who knows how long. I've always found myself attracted to the idea of women being so close to the point that their eyelashes brush up against each other, how they just want to do as they like while they're together. I've wanted to do this sort of au for many fandoms, but this was the first one I was able to actually do one for. I hope you could take the time to appreciate this song, at the very least. If you are willing to listen to this while reading it, I think you would be in a place that's similar to mine as I wrote this, since I listened to it on repeat for the entire duration of writing this fic. You heard of triple baka, now here’s triple yandere!

 So now that I’m rping three yandere’s(this blog @lovesickutau and my side blog @electriicangels​) I thought I’d make a post explaining how these lovely ladies yandere style’s are different!

Tei’s Style: 

Usually takes a more violent approach, finds her rivals name and usually rids herself of them in their sleep. 

Has eyes only for her darling, usually the Kagamine’s and refuses to give anyone else her time and affection, the only way she’d move on from them is if they’re dead. (which i have a verse where they are, and open for other ships!)

Doesn’t mind her darling knowing what she does and her true nature 

She believes she should be completely honest, because lying to her darling is one of the worst things she could ever do. 

Despite her jealousy and violent tendency problems, she’s actually a very sweet girl, she genuinely loves the people she surrounds herself with. 

If she’s rejected time after time again, eventually she will take the life of her darling, burn their body, and put the ashes into what’s called  a Cremation Necklace, where she has them for the rest of eternity.(this is a last ditch plan, and will most likely never happen to anyone but the Len from my verse where it’s open for other ships)

Mayu’s Style:

Usually takes a manipulative approach, only using more violent approaches as a last resort. She will poison, frame, spread rumors, torture, or trick her rivals in order to get them to back off. Also often calling her rivals “weeds”

She will NEVER revel her true nature to her darling unless her darling has been told, caught her in the act, (or in @kindcstguardian​‘s miku case) their nature is similar to her’s and will understand. 

in order to hide her true nature from others and her darling, she will act cutesy, innocent, and overall act like a whole other person when in reality she’s mean, manipulative, two-faced, and filled with a darkness dripped in poison.

She doesn’t care much for anyone other then her darling, while true, she may have like-minded friends that she’ll help if it benefits her, she will turn on them in a second to protect herself or her darling. 

 If she’s rejected by her darling three times, she will take drastic measures to secure herself, kidnaping them, spending hours and days torturing them so she can detach them from herself, feeling nothing for them, and then killing them.              •  Before any ship she has; she has done this at least three times.                 One of them being her “master”, the person who originally                  created her, explaining why she hasn’t been updated.

Kiku’s Style: 

Considering that her darling is Taito Shion, a yandere just like her who is his darling; she doesn’t often feel the need to do anything, unless someone starts flirting with Taito, which she usually resolves by screaming at the person. 

However, in a verse where her darling is someone other then Taito, she will often take violent approaches, usually not carefully however, and will frame another person she doesn’t care for with the murder. 

She doesn’t bother hiding who she is from anyone, as her demonic and corrupted voice already creeps people out, so she figures “why hide it?” 

Kiku is a violent person all around, she will often inflict harm to her darling and herself just out of the pure delight of blood, pain, and screams. Often laughing maniacally while doing it or if she sees pain and sufferings.  

She won’t care if she’s respectively rejected, she will keep her interest and be very unwavering of her darling. The person can take all the precautions to keep her away that they want, Kiku won’t stop until she has what she wants. 

The best song to explain her would be “Rotten Girl, Grotesque Romance”

Q: You have the Deadly Sins of Evil novel series where many unique characters show up. How did you come up with the names for these characters?

A: I had several patterns I followed.

There are some where I made a pun on the name of the VOCALOID they’re based on.

Such as “Kagamine Len” --> “Allen”

I also coined names that were a blending of various words that had special meanings to them.

“Sateriasis Venomania”-->”Satyriasis”, which means “sex mania”, alongside “Nymphomania”. And then onto that I also added in the English word “Venom” which means “poison”.

 I also made puns on demons and gods from mythology.

“Arte” and “Pollo” --> From “Artemis” and “Apollo” that show up in Greek mythology.

After that, there are a lot of characters where I gave them a name based on the sound of the word, without any particular meaning.

Q: The “Deadly Sins of Evil” series has had two publications at this point—please tell us if you have any stories to share about these two works.

A:

The Madness of Duke Venomania

A lot of women show up in this work, so in order to better learn the feelings of women I went to a lot of group parties. In the end I still didn’t really understand.

Evil Food Eater Conchita

A lot of food shows up in this work, so in order to better learn the feelings of food, I went to a lot of dinners. They were delicious. Of course one can’t understand the feelings of food.

Q: The last “Vessel of Deadly Sin” that has yet to be made clear. Is that the “Golden Key” that showed up in Venomania, and the “Golden Powder (Golden Key)” from Conchita…? The “Vessel of Wrath” apparently also debuted in the “Daughter of Evil” series, but which scene was that actually in?

A: There’s only one that’s called the “Vessel of Wrath”. Whatever the era, its owner seeks to kill the holder of another “Vessel of Deadly Sin”.

Q: Venomania used the power of the demon to transform like Kyle and Ney in the “Daughter of Evil” series. Is this transformation of varying degrees for each demon, and is it different depending on the individual?

A: The transformation of a contractor is something that all demons are capable of, but their abilities and power levels depend on the demon. “Lust” is able to fly and use brainwashing, but in terms of physical attack ability it’s not that strong.

“Gluttony” is able to enslave dead bodies, so it has no need to transform the contractor in order to use its power. It has physical strength that is second only to “Pride”, but perhaps due to its whimsical nature it seldom grants its contractor full use of its power. In the climax of the fourth installment of “Daughter of Evil” Ney was, in actuality, fighting almost entirely with just her own natural power, though she didn’t realize that fact.

“Pride” is able to grant their contractor an extremely high amount of fighting power, but unlike the other demons it has no other particular abilities.

Q: The sorceress Elluka Clockworker did some wandering; can you tell us about her acts of mercy?

A: In all of the places that she went, Elluka would use her magic to save the people she met there without regard for whether they were rich or poor. Elluka would always say that she was just doing it “on a whim” or “to gain favors from influential people”. Even after several centuries had passed she’s never realized that she’s a softie at heart.

Q: Who exactly is the historian Will Jaakko?

A: Will Jaakko (EC 353-405) is a Beelzenian historian. His grandfather was the minstrel Xenos Jaakko. As a result of all the anecdotes that he heard when he was young from his grandfather, he came to develop an interest “Vessel of Deadly Sin” that the Conchita family and Banica were said to have possessed. In 388 he married the author of the fairytale “Vampiress Vanika”, Sanan Neu. In his later years he published several works that advanced several personal theories relating to Beelzenian history and the “Vessels of Deadly Sin”, but these were not very well regarded publicly, judged to be absurd tales that were heavily influenced by his wife’s fairytales.

Q: Ma shows up at the end of the Daughter of Evil, Venomania, and Conchita. She goes by the title of playwright, but as for her (?) true identity…?

A: She seems to have lived for a very long time. Other similarly long-lived beings have shown up in the story up to this point, so if you’re asking if Ma’s true identity is one of those…?

It doesn’t seem to be that simple.

Q: (Venomania) Is the dress that Karchess used to disguise as a woman based on Elluka’s preferences?

A: Karchess’ dress for his woman disguise is something that he picked out himself at a clothing store in Lasaland. It’s different from the outfit that Elluka was wearing, so it’s probably based on Karchess’ preferences.

Q: (Venomania) Did Gumina love Cherubim?

A: “She merely gave a lonely smile.”

Q: (Conchita) Please tell us the story of the time that Arte and Pollo met Conchita.

A: After losing her mother, in her depression Banica would often stay shut up in the food storage in the basement. For Banica, as isolated as she was, her own room was too wide to be comfortable. That was around the time that she met Arte and Pollo. At some point the three of them had become good friends. However, bizarrely enough no in the mansion, not even Banica, can remember why the twins were there or when they started working there as servants.

Q: (Conchita) How did the waiter of the “Graveyard” restaurant gather the Deadly Sins?

A: I honestly don’t know anything about how the waiter had the “Vessels of Deadly Sin” there. Perhaps you should be more suspicious of the run-away Chef.

Q: (Conchita) So you said that you originally had plans for Conchita to be a “kaiju girl”. Please tell us about the original story that wound up getting discarded.

A: A certain family finds a peculiar creature. They name it “Conchita”, and come to keep it as a pet.  Conchita eats all of the feed they give her, and grows up rapidly. …Or rather, she gets too big.

They are unable to keep Conchita, as she has grown larger than the house that they live in. Having been abandoned, Conchita continues to eat things she finds on the wayside, and steadily grows bigger. The government decides to repel her, and fires missiles at her, but Conchita eats them.

At that time, an enormous meteorite is confirmed to be heading towards Earth. At this rate the Earth is destroyed. In order to protect the family that raised her, Conchita flies into the air alone and headed for space…

Q: (Conchita) Lady Conchita’s name might have ended up being “Muraramurajakotasupopopo”. What is the basis for that name?

A: Ask Mr. Muzuri.

Q: (Conchita) Tell us what Conchita’s daily life is like.

A: Outside of eating meals, a lot of the time Lady Banica works hard at her hobby garden in the backyard. The plants that she raises there ultimately get put into her meals. She hardly ever goes outside the mansion.

As for Pollo’s everyday work, he cleans inside the mansion, weeds the garden, feeds the livestock, washes his clothes, does athletic meets for the undead soldiers, and harassing Joseph.

Arte’s job is arranging for supplies and price discussions with merchants, management of the money, shopping for any daily supplies they’re low on, washing her and Banica’s clothes, running head counts of the livestock and dead soldiers, pulling pranks on Pollo, acting as Joseph’s assistant and also harassing him.

Outside of cooking and preparations for it, Joseph generally just rambles about aimlessly. As Arte and Pollo are always getting in his way and harassing him, he often goes down to hang around at the bar in the village at the base of the hill. But he’s a non-drinker.

Q: (Conchita) Out of all the unique dishes that Conchita has eaten, which do you think she liked the most?

A: I would think it’s the one that made her cry with joy, don’t you think?

Q: If you were going to contract, which demon would you pick? And please tell us your reasons.

A: I am a serious, just, and virtuous person, and so I have no desire to contract with a demon. I would prefer an angel with large boobs.

Q: If you gathered all seven vessels of Deadly Sin, what would you wish for?

A: I’d wish for either eternal life, to revive everyone on earth, or girl panties.

Q: What kind of story will the third installment of the Deadly Sins of Evil series be like?

A: I plan to depict KAITO as an even bigger scuzbag than ever before.

About the “Daughter of Evil” Comic Adaptation

Q: What did you think when discussion came up of making the “Daughter of Evil” into a comic?

A: When the novel came out there was a decent amount of people who were “interested in it but couldn’t read very well…”, so I guess I thought that such people would be pleased?

Q: Please share the thoughts you had when you saw the finished manga.

A:  Basically the story was something that I came up with myself, but when I saw it in the manga format it was like I was reading it with the fresh emotions of being an outsider. And it also did things like supplement scenes that weren’t shown in the main piece, so I was able to simply enjoy reading it.

Q: Please say one thing to the readers enjoying the comic adaptation of the “Daughter of Evil”.

A: I think this is a work that is enjoyable to read for both those who have already read the light novel and those who haven’t. I’d really like you to read it, at any rate!

That genie, or robot, tells you that they will grant one wish that you have, no matter what it is.

So then, what do you wish for?

“I want to be pampered by members of the opposite sex”? “I want to be able to eat delicious foods”? “I want to rule the world to be as I wish it”? “I want to be able to rest and not have to work”? “I want to be able to crush my rivals”? “I want to become rich”?

Or, “I want revenge on the person that ruined my life”?

The protagonist of this book, Sateriasis Venomania, picked one of those answers.

Was he a villain drowning in lust, or was he a victim tossed around by fate? The answer doesn’t come through here. I have no way of knowing the answer in the first place.

Only, he had a lot of opportunities to stop what he was doing. To not do so was his own choice, and regardless of whether he wished it or not, his actions invited the fate that befell him in the end.

If you were in his position, and you had obtained the power that you’d desired, what sort choices would you make?

Leaving that conversation to the side.

This book, “The Lunacy of Duke Venomania” may be a member of the “VOCALOID light novel” genre (though I don’t know if that genre definitively exists or not), but there was hardly any appearances from Kagamine Rin and Len (none from Len at all, in fact), who were members of the main cast in all the works up to this point.

Though I’d planned to have Rin (or as she goes in the story, Rindo Blum) have a slightly more active role in the book…During the development of the story I wound up having to whittle down on her appearance, as she didn’t show up in the original song.

Well, I think I’ll be able to have those two show up more in the next book (if I can get it published alright, that is).

My gratitude goes out to all of the illustrators who depicted the world of the book with such wonderful pictures, and the publishers who provided their assistance in editing while compiling the book.

Answer: i’ve sometimes done lil art streams for friends before! i could use the same capture software to make speedpaints sometime.... i’ve been considering it for a while actually! 

my process can be a lil sloppy when i try to break it down into steps for tutorials so i think the best way to show + explain is through art streams (& video process)... 

i was thinking of starting art streams on twitch in the near future too... it’s just when i’ll finally be able to get setup finally that i’d be able to set a streaming schedule

On the past year...

I just want to think out loud for a bit...

Rin and Len’s birthday is tomorrow, and I’ve just been thinking...wow, a lot of stuff has happened this year. I graduated high school, I went to college for the first time, I took my first real art class, I did a lot of things I didn’t expect to do. 

I really didn’t expect Mikunology or Incorrect Vocal Android Quotes to sorta blow up?? Incorrect was really just a silly blog I started because I had seen similar blogs and I thought it would be funny to 1) make a Vocaloid one since there weren’t any that were updating regularly, and 2) try to straighten out my own headcanons by distinctly making a quotes blog set in a sort of “universe”. I didn’t have any rhythm or rhyme to it, I just posted what I personally thought would be hilarious and left it at that. But then everyone else thought it was really funny, too, and soon I had a ton of people following it, and people asking me questions and stuff. I already was planning a Vocaloid story of my own (Vocal Android) and it was something I liked making, but it was kind of a side project thing, because I really wanted to make my own cartoons and I wanted to focus on developing my own characters. These days things have switched; I’m working on Vocaloid all the time now and have been working on my original cartoons on the side.

I also started regularly posting art here. As I’ve said before, I used to be really scared to post Vocaloid art--I call myself a cartoonist, but I wasn’t sure how people would react to a cartoonily-drawn Miku or Rin and Len...I was really scared people would say it’s crap or that Miku should be drawn anime style, not cartoon, but I distinctly remember putting up that giant page of Miku poses and seeing people tag it as “art goals” or “cool art” or “you draw her so cute!” and thinking, wow, this wasn’t what I expected. I’ve gotten better at drawing Miku and pals since then, but I still love hearing so many folks tell me that my cartoony ol’ Miku looks cool or cute or animated, because it reminds me that I should stop putting myself down so often, ahahah ^^”

Miku and friends have been part of my life since 2009 (I was 9, I’ll be 19 in a month), and have helped me through many things, including the times I was ready to just give up. I admit that Vocal Android is in part something made because that’s just how I kinda ended up seeing the characters and wanted to make something until I struck big with my own cartoons, but now I see it as just me making this series as a way to sort of thank the Vocaloids for inspiring me like they have. Heck, I wouldn’t even HAVE my original cartoons without them--my original universe and my original flagship character Mocha were inspired by a Millstones album, so I guess I have to thank Miku for that, too XD But nonetheless, I’m really working hard on the story for Vocal Android so that it’ll be good, because I want that love to be felt when I (eventually) make it a real comic. (Though, I gotta admit, wouldn’t be cool to be allowed to make Vocal Android a real cartoon show, considering I handle it like one? :>)

Thanks to me making Vocal Android and getting more into it, I’ve made a lot of connections, too, and met a lot of people I didn’t even expect to meet...I’m still really surprised that the PR manager for mikumikuebooks, Camellia, and beat_shobon follow me on Twitter now :’D I’ve made so many new friends, and seen so many stunning portrayals of the Vocaloids that I wouldn’t have been able to imagine myself, and I’ve been able to put myself out there, and I’ve been really happy, even amongst my typical self-deprecation that’s just second nature to me at this point (I’m gonna work on that in 2019). I’ve gotten more confident in my art, even by a little bit, and I’ve figured out better ways to make art and draw. Maybe sometime I can...yknow...get back into storyboarding again like 11-year-old me used to. XD

I’m just so thankful. I really didn’t get much for Christmas, this year, but I feel like that’s okay, because I got so many things like this. This is a really sappy essay but it’s the truth, I couldn’t be more glad to be part of this community and fandom, even despite the tumblr shenanigans and bad apples. And I couldn’t be more thankful to have met Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin and Len. 

Rin and Len’s birthday is tomorrow, so I have a really special surprise to put up soon. But I just wanted to get down some thoughts. I’m really thankful for my friends, and for the people who follow Incorrect VA, and for the people who watch for my art. I wouldn’t be here without your support. I look forward to whatever happens in 2019, and I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas, and WILL have a great and wonderful new year!

imiSome of you might know that I started a new DanganRonpa fic called ‘And So It Begins’, which happens to be an SYOC. A lot of songs have inspired my writing of it so far, as well as some of my planning, so I figured I may as well begin a playlist of sort. A sigh left Cinnabar’s lips as they frowned and looked at the small head that they held their the tips of their dusty fingers. “It’s not good enough,” they muttered angrily, leaning over to grab the small sandpaper square that was already shaped like a ‘U’.

They placed the bent place in the paper around their index finger and secured it with their middle finger and their thumb before rubbing the paper on the head. Their red eyes watched the dust from the dry clay start to clump together as the rough paper glided along the surface to get rid of imperfections. Their thin fingers moved in uneven patterns around the face, going in circles, zigzags, and other movements.

Once they were satisfied with how the head looked, they took in a deep breath and lightly blew away at the gathered dust and coughed when it flew and dangled in the air. They moved the tiny head in both palms as their right thumb gently rubbed against the hard cheek. Their fingertips moved to turn the head around so their eyes could see if it was ‘perfect’.

Cinnabar placed the clay head down gently on the desk in front of them before they moved to the side and grabbed 2 golden glass disk along with 2 crescent moon shaped clay. Their chest rose up and fell with a heavy sigh as they leaned over to  grab around 3 paint bottles along with a tiny paintbrush and a small glass of water. Their fingers held the crescent shaped clay while they dipped the very tip of the thin brush into one of the bottles of paint, dragging it gently across the divot in the clay.

They let the hand holding the brush go where it wanted on the small piece of clay, pulling it away to wash out the paint or to pick another color that they chose and finally stopping once the finish product looked somewhat like an iris and pupil. Their body then places the brush down and leaned over to dip the soft padding of their finger into glue, putting the clay down before dabbing it gently on the piece of glass and put the two small pieces together. Cinnabar then grabbed the other piece of unpainted clay before they picked up their brush and did the same thing to the other one, periodically looking up to reference the finished product so they’ll look similar to each other.

Cinnabar was— still to their surprise— a somewhat famed dollmaker in the community that they lived in. It started out as a simple hobby when they were in high school, they resorted to making dolls because they were bullied and didn’t have any friends. It was a way to express themselves that most people wouldn’t allow them to express since they were “weird”. And as they made more and more dolls to help themselves get through school, they begun to get more skilled and made each and every body and face with delicate care. It wasn’t long until they started to sell them and made their own little shop, hiding in the back room so no one would be able to see their face and attract attention to the anti-social gem.

The redhead let out a sigh from the memory, setting the other finished eye next to the other before their hand gently shoved the paint bottles out of their work space. They replaced the tiny brush with a slightly larger one along with the nearly empty bottle of glue, turning the pale face upside down so they can look into the cavity. Their fingers elegantly wrapped the slightly large handle before they dipped the soft bristles into white liquid, taking it out and gently painting it around the empty spaces around the eye sockets.

Once glue was applied, they wiped the white stuff off of their brush with a washcloth and set it to the side, picking up the small ball. Their fingertips turned the sphere around until it was in the perfect position, gently shoving it into the sticky substance on the so it’ll stay in place. They then grabbed the other eye and did the same, making sure that they looked identical before they set the head face down.

Cinnabar grabbed a semi-translucent jar and rolled something between their thin fingers before they leaned over and grabbed some wax. They stuck their middle and their index fingers into the bottom on the head, sticking it to the underside of the eye. They then grabbed a rod and pressed it against the wax, making sure that the wax was fully against the eyeball. And once the felt like it was secure enough so nothing will fall out, they repeated their actions with the other eyeball next to it.

They let out a heavy sigh before they got up, turning around and grabbed their case full of pastels along with a few fluffy brushes. They moved the paint, glue, and everything else they used on the doll to the side and placed their pallet down. Cinnabar’s finger rubbed against the tops of some pastel sticks, stroking their fingertip along their scarred arms to test the colors before grabbing their brush. Their fingers guided the brush to the pastels before they brought it to the dolls face, starting to blush the face.

It took a few minutes to add a pink flush to the cheeks and over the parts that needed it before they moved onto the body of the doll. But, they only got to add color to the right elbow before there was a somewhat loud knock on the door. Cinnabar let out yet another heavy sigh as they placed the body down and turned around with a large frown.

Morganite, who looked at the older gem nervously as they peered through the door, cleared their throat as they looked at the doll they were working on for a second. “The new person is here,” they told the other softly.

The redhead looked at them before they nodded and turned back around, holding the body of the doll and started to return to what they were doing before. “You can send them in here, I’ll show them what to do when they’re in here.”

My Thoughts:

First off, I swear to god I didn’t just finish this. I posted it at like 11 am and forgot to post on here when i did it. 

Last day of Cinnaphos week deserves the longest fanfiction I’ve ever wrote along with an almost fully developed au, I still can’t believe that I put so much detail into something. But, oh boy don’t I love this new au that I sorta pulled out of my ass and is actually really good.

My main inspiration for this fic was a mix between one of my favorite underrated animes-- which is Rozen Maiden-- and I got the title from one of my sad Rin Kagamine songs (link to the song here). And I originally planned it to end somewhat similar to the ending of the song Dolls-- where I was going to have Phos walk into Cinnabar’s back work room with the doll Cinnabar made with them before killing themselves in said room, but time was an issue and I didn’t want it to feel rushed or anything. So, one day I’ll continue that part and expand on this little au that i made out of my two favorite things.

And before I end my sadly last Cinnaphos week post, I want to say that this wasn’t going to be my original thing I was going to post- I was actually going to post something from during the night raid! But, after thinking and literally dwelling on the idea,  I found it hard to come up with something that fit in with the events or finding something after chapter 70-71. So, after seeing a post saying Cinnabar with a ponytail is good, I imagined them in it before it clicked and write my dollmaking au instead.

[Dreams] [Originally written on: 19 July 2019]

(Strange themes to dream of when all I’ve been doing is play Stardew Valley.)

I am standing in a gently flowing river. The water is knee-deep and cool to the touch. Bits of twig and squashed grass make up its bottom - the water clean and clear enough to show it.

A hunter, a former mercenary, follows a flock of cranes through a mountain in search of a different prey - a legendary blue-feathered crane. He finds it dead, bloodied and torn to pieces by the same birds he followed, who now surrounded the entire mountain.

I tell him “That’s that. It’s time to return.“

He wraps the pieces of the dead blue crane in black cloth, and sets home.

As an apology, he gives the pieces to his kith and kin. As penance, he refuses to keep one.

We set foot at our second to the last stop for the day - a small coffee shop ran by a mutual friend. They give us free coffee, all made according to our personal taste - they tease me about preferring mine very creamy and sweet. We chat about what has been going on while we were away, and as they clean up and return to regular work, the hunter and I have a brief conversation about how grounding the entire experience is.

“Back in the mountain”, he goes, “the isolation was crushing. Just us, the river, the birds. Now it almost feels like all of that was a fever dream.”

It is raining outside. The coffee shop owner offers to give us a ride back to our apartments.

A new trouble begins the moment we were out of the parking area. Another car seems intent on driving recklessly, nearly crashing into us. It careens away, and we are left in peace until we hit the road. It returns, still as fast and reckless as ever, uncaring of other bystanders.

(I don’t even know. A bundle of images, loosely connected, but somehow I know the entire story. I’ll just write down the plot. Also, why Vocaloid??? I haven’t been in the fandom for years.)

The Kagamine Twins are young assassins with a supernatural ability. They off a teacher in the middle of a school production by making a large, wooden cross prop drop on them. One of the students catch them at night while they were planning to escape, though they weren’t recognized as anything but guests from a different school. The twins pull off several mean-spirited pranks on her, but somehow, she remained their friend.

Eventually, their employer force them to kill her off to tidy lose ends before they move out to do a different job. They have no choice but to comply - Len leaves their employer and runs away, and the employer, who only wanted their ability - one they can only do together, abandons Rin to the streets.

Rin has somehow kept a phone containing pictures of their friend, and the twins together.

And then a Trickster Mento archetype takes notice of her and approaches.

Just trimming down my WonFes2017Winter wishlist even further, and my rationalizations.  x_x;

So I've finally convinced myself to save my money from Nendoroid Yamatonokami Yasusada, since I'm getting his Nendoroid Co-de internal affairs version anyway.  But honestly, that entire top row and the Halloween/Christmas Nendoroid More sets should be on the chopping block too.  >~<

I mean, really, am I that attached to Victor?  Yuri on Ice isn't really my favorite series and I didn't get as obsessed with it as everyone else seemed to.  And if I'm not at that level of fangirling, then should I really be throwing $50-$60 at Nendoroid Victor?  ~_____~????  But still, I did like Yuri on Ice.  It may have fallen short as a "sports anime" for me, but I liked it as a character study story.  Yuri is really relatable, and Victor is such a fun character, that I can imagine how much fun he would be for figure photography.  So I shouldn't drop Nendoroid Victor.  

But if I can say that reason to keep Victor, then I should be able to say the same for the Elric brothers.  I wasn't as obsessed with Fullmetal Alchemist---I didn't even watch FMA:Brotherhood!  But I remember really liking that 2003 series.  I may not have been as obsessed with it as my brother, but I remember being swept up in how well-made the anime was, being emotionally effected by the themes and concepts, and loving the Elric brothers.  Aside from that, I have a personal rule about not passing up merchandise from nostalgia series, even if it's not my current obsession.  Plus, Ed and Al are also really fun characters.  There should be so much fun figure photography I can do with them.  Especially with Al and all my miniature cats.  I've already done figure photos with the Play Arts Elric brothers, but I really prefer Nendoroids.  And now, I can finally do that.  So I guess I'm throwing my money at an entire pair...from a series I wasn't entirely obsessed with nor as deeply personally effected by---but still so good.  

Another pair that I really should reconsider are the Kagamine twins' harvest moon versions.  I really shouldn't.  I mean, I love Len & Rin---I even bought their original Nendoroids AND their Append versions---but I'm not even a Vocaloid obsessee!  Why am I throwing my money at another pair?!  If I really wanted to save my money, I'd be happy that I have Nendoroid Harvest Moon Miku, and call that done.  She should serve as representative of that whole aesthetic, and save me from needing to get every single Vocaloid who puts on a beautiful Harvest Moon costume.  ....A beautiful, beautiful costume....  Damn it.  I'll have to justify buying them as beauty pieces.

That's what I did with Izuminokami Kanesada.  I'm not a particular fan of Kane-san.  I don't even have a preference for the Shinsengumi toudans.  I'm a Date gumi girl!  (And if there was a Sanada gumi, I'd be collecting those toudans too!)  But Kane-san is clearly a "beauty piece".  I just really like wafuku.  

...Which is also why I had to drop Horikawa.  It pained me, as a completionist, to come to that decision to break up the duo, and only plan to preorder one of them, but the wallet must be saved.  

Except from beauty pieces, like the PMMM kimono Nendoroids...and solidarity pieces like the Rumiko Takahashi Nendoroids.  ...even though they're from Rin-ne and Urusei Yatsura, while I'm much more of a Ranma 1/2 / Mermaid Saga / Inuyasha fan instead.  But I love Takahashi, so I'm getting them!  Maybe that'll encourage Play Future to make more Rumic Nendoroids, the way supporting the same vein helped the Touken Ranbu Nendoroids get their whole line, Orange Rouge.  

There are just too many damned Nendoroids to save money for!  ;O;  My only hope now is for the Halloween/Christmas sets for Nendoroid More to be announced, and then they just so happen to be nothing I like.  Though, that's really a thin hope when saving money against Good Smile Company.  -.-;

Mikunology File #4: Fanmade/Derivative Characters in Vocal Android

Forget those dumb character lists I made in the first two files, I don’t have the time to make icons/portraits for everybody.

But, I figured I might as well talk about the fanmade and deriative characters that will be featured in this series/comic/story/whatever, so here we go. And remember, some portrayals of characters are made up purely for storytelling’s sake--if there wasn’t a story to any of this, I’d probably portray some of these characters differently.

Truthfully, unlike the Cryptons, who have a clear-cut role in the story (which is, duh, the main characters), a lot of the fanmade characters are sort of scattered throughout the story. Some are important, most are just little background characters that help populate this wacky, futuristic world the Vocaloids live in. But I have to say, I have the Friendship is Magic approach to background characters: despite being backgrounds, they probably have their own story to tell.

So what of them?

Akita Neru & Yowane Haku: Oh, these guys. As stated on a post I made on Incorrect Vocal Android Quotes, these two start out as low-tier villains, so low-tier I actually wouldn’t categorize them as such considering other characters fill the title of “villain” so much better. Why? Story-wise, these two do little more than make halfhearted attempts at antagonizing Miku and the Cryptons, and even then, it’s mostly Neru’s personal envy. That’s why I don’t consider it a spoiler that Neru and Haku end up joining the heroes--though Haku’s role gets expanded later on as we learn more about her creators.

Calne Ca/Calcium: Calcium, surprisingly enough, would have counted as a oneshot villain if it weren’t for the fact she’s just terribly lonely. Calcium, in reference to Deino’s concept, is supposed to be a robotic exoskeleton--and in this story, a robotic exoskeleton developed by a miscellaneous company for some shady reasons. She gains a Miku skin (thus becoming Calne Ca) after coming to idolize Miku’s music and deeds, and later on gets the more humanlike skin from Bacterial Contamination after Miku befriends her.

Zatsune Miku: As mentioned on Incorrect Vocal Android as well, Zatsune is definitely one of the more textbook supervillains in Sapporo. Created by a mysterious underground company, Zatsune’s mission is basically Kill & Replace--assassinate Miku, get all her glory and fame, maybe cause a robot uprising in the process, who knows. Thing is, curiously enough Zatsune’s specific function is more of an attack droid, not a singing one, and while at first she’s a bit more quirky and hammy she gets MUCH more serious when you see her...other design (aka her original one, if you’ve been to the Fanloid Wiki).

Dell Honne: Last I checked, I mentioned Dell quite a few times on Incorrect Vocal Android as well, and well...he’s not at all a nice guy, and arguably a worse villain than Zatsune depending on your perspective. While in retrospect I realize Dell was supposed to be a “Yowane Len”, so to speak, he’s actually a human character who is supposed to be Haku’s creator. He runs the large technology company Honne Corporation (a corporation I’ll go into more detail about later since I plan on making a post about companies in this story), and initially created Haku based on Miku’s success, and subsequently junked her when Haku failed to perform. But he’s not just a backstory character--he gets up to some evil plans later.

Hagane Miku: OK, OK. I’ll be honest that my portrayal of Hagane is a bit confusing, but I’ll do my best to be straight about it. (The problem with Miku’s derivatives is that I had to explain why she has so many lookalikes.) To start, I will say that I didn’t initially intend Hagane to be her own person in this verse--in one of the old drafts of this plotline, Hagane was simply a death metal alter ego Miku took on when people wanted her to be edgier. But in this current plotline, there are two Haganes, based on the H-side and M-side versions the Haganeloids were supposed to have. 

Hagane Type-H: The Type H Haganes are a line of attack droids sent to destroy Sapporo while simultaneously wrecking Miku’s reputation, supposedly created by a faction of Honne Corp. (though it’s unconfirmed). The thing is about the H-Haganes is that unlike the Cryptons, or heck, unlike Zatsune, they are mindless--they simply follow the commands whoever made them gives them. Which, to Miku and crew, makes them that much more dangerous.

Hagane Type-M: This is where the more confusing part comes. See, as more stuff happens, the Vocaloids end up inspiring a LOT of people, and not only do more singers pop up because of them, more heroes do, too! That said, it’s not uncommon for some of said new heroes to base their image on the Vocaloids themselves--and thus, M-Type Hagane Miku is a vigilante fighting bad guys on the lower deck in a punk-rock Miku image. Who she really is, no one knows, but she definitely helps the group when the H-Types show up.

Sakine Meiko: OK, this one is purely technical but I felt I should clear up some things in case someone tries to point it out--Sakine Meiko and the Meiko that features as a main character (MEIKO) are one and the same. Sakine as the derivative she’s known as was Meiko’s persona when she used to be a teen idol, being a one-hit wonder before retiring so Meiko could study science. Hence, that’s why I give Meiko the surname of “Sakine” even as an adult.

Shion Family: Yes, they exist here, too. The Shion Family is, as expected, Kaito’s crazy family of brothers (and one sister) that he occasionally goes to visit, or that occasionally visit him and cause havoc. I won’t go into detail about each one, but the family is pretty much made up of (in order of birth): Akaito (red), Kikaito (yellow), Kaito himself (blue), Mokaito (brown), Taito (purple), Nigaito (green), Kaiko, and finally Kageito (who I’ll go more into next). All this plus their unnamed foster father who I need to make. Zeito, as much as I wanted to include him, isn’t here simply because I haven’t figured out a role for him yet (as Kageito kind of has the role people would expect Zeito to have, knowing Zatsune).

Kageito Shion: You know how above I say that not all portrayals in Vocal Android are reflective of my image of the character, and that if this were ust a story-less random thing characters would be portrayed differently? This is definitely one of those times. Kageito, in this story, is Zatsune’s right-hand man and most loyal lackey, being a calm and sweet boy that was transformed into a devious and crazed monster after being possessed by a mysterious shadow being. He directly antagonizes Miku and the Kagamines numerous times but is routinely defeated, and goes into hiding with Zatsune sometime later (whom he’s infatuated with, by the way). Whether Miku actually brings him back to his original self is up in the air.

Hatsune Mikuo, Kagamine Rinto, and Kagamine Lenka: I was slightly iffy about adding genderbends in simply because it’d be hard to explain how they exist (because, like I said before, I’m trying to explain why there’s so many Mikus running around), but I gave in eventually. Kind of along the lines of how Haku was developed, the genderbends were made as knockoffs--created by a couple of random scientists who wanted a piece of the action. Mikuo, Rinto, and Lenka don’t have the powers that Miku and crew have, though, but they befriend them just the same. S’all good.

Kagami Kawaiine: Now we’re getting to the silly ones. Kagami, unlike most of the characters above, is simply a silly background character that pops up now and again to annoy absolutely everyone around her. She’s a human girl that tries to imitate Miku and interrupts random events by being a weeb.

Sasayaki Nerune: Another background character, and actually my OWN character--she’s a narcoleptic android that works random odd jobs and appears from time to time doing something weird. I just think it’s fun to have her cameo occasionally.

Hachune Miku, Tako Luka, Shiteyanyo and Larval Rin: The weird little mascots are characters that simply pop in now and again to do whatever, with Tako Luka officially being Luka’s pet in this story. Hachune shows up very randomly as a sort of a visual joke, but also offers Miku rather assertive advice (thus leading Miku to believe Hachune is simply a figment of her imagination). Shiteyanyo and Larval Rin I haven’t decided on yet, but maybe they’ll show up somewhere.

Mikudayo: Mikudayo, in all essence, is just a little running gag that exists solely to spook the hell out of the other characters. While I imagine it originated at a convention/concert kind of place (mirroring how it came to be in real life), it just stalks Miku relentlessly for some reason. Miku isn’t too sure it’s even just a human in a suit, either.

OK so that was a LOT of writing I just did. But yep, those are the plans for those characters, at least. And just so everyone knows, I’m totally open to suggestions on other derivatives as characters (I am NOT taking ocs, but if there’s a more notable fanmade I haven’t heard of then I’d love to include them).
