… Until then, I’ll keep picking the music.
When Dean says those words at the end of the The Winchesters pilot & goes off driving Baby down that 2 lane road, I initially thought it meant he was driving Baby in Heaven & that Dean is talking to us during the drive he had in Heaven before Sam arrives. (Assuming 15x20 exists, tho it doesn’t)
Now I’m not so sure. Specially since I found out that every episode’s title is also the title of a song. Meaning, he’s picking the songs we’re listening to. Meaning Dean’s the driver, we’re riding shotgun & he’s driving the story however he sees fit.
In the beginning of the pilot Dean said the story might sound familiar “but I’m gonna put the pieces together in a way that just might surprise you.” This implies that there’s more than one way to put these pieces together. More than one version of the story.
We’re getting Dean’s version. The one he’s driving. The one where he’s picking the music & the music he pics is the ep we see.
Being the music obsessed nerd that I am, I decided to carefully listen to the song that gives each ep its title to see what it tells us about the characters, the episode, where the season is going, the SPN universe in general…
Let’s begin with the pilot.
Now the pilot doesn’t have a song title.
So I listened to the songs in it & I found one that I think is the equivalent.
I’d Love to Change the World by Ten Years Later.
We listen to this song twice in the episode.
This is song that’s playing when John steps off the bus. It’s our introduction to John, to this younger version of John that just got back from the war.
The song describes the counterrevolution, the older generation complaining about social changes, about “freaks & hairies”, “dykes & fairies”. It is what the singer refers to when he says “I’d like to change the world”.
I see John as both. This present John is one who wants to change the world, but doesn’t know what to do & yet the rest of the lyrics is who he will become, which is the opposite of what he wants in this moment.
Another thing I find interesting viewing this song as our introduction to John. Is the chorus.
I’d love to change the world / But I don’t know what to do / So I’ll leave it up to you
Which is what John did. He left it up to his children, specially Dean to change or save the world the way he couldn’t or didn’t know what to do.
We hear the song again at the end of the pilot when we see Dean next to Baby on that mysterious two lane road.
Now besides us riding shotgun & listening to this story Dean is driving, we hear this song, which makes me think he’s talking to someone else as well.
Here I think Dean is the one who wants to change the world, change the past, change the story, but he doesn’t know what to do. So he’s leaving it up to…

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Song Review: Ten Years After - “I’d Love to Change the World” (Chris Kimsey 2023 Mix)
“I’d Love to Change the World” is both stuck in its time and contemporary.
It’s mostly down to the lyrics - which employ gay slurs while also taking progressive stances on taxation and population. Musically, the track is based around an acoustic-guitar riff that’s pre-requisite for any nascent player.
A new mix of Ten Years After’s best-known song is similarly dichotomous as producer Chris Kimsey brightens the sound while adding too much reverb on the vocals and electric guitar in the chorus. The effect is modern fidelity paired with latent psychedelia as the band offers a cop out for the ages:
I’d love to change the world/but I don’t know what to do/so I’ll leave it up to you
The single announces the March 17 arrival of A Space in Time, in a 50th-anniversary edition that comes 52 years after Ten Years After first released it.
The set includes the 2023 and 1971 mixes.

I’m the anon that sent in all the Ruby stuff! It makes me so happy that you love her so much. I didn’t expect her to be such a beloved character to you and I was kind of nervous that you would have hated her tbh. ^^;
Something Ruby related — I had a fic about Twig and co. confronting the siblings before I ultimately scrapped it because I could not write villainous characters without making them feel cliché. I do remember this one line said by Ruby’s sister when she lashes out towards Twig:
“You wouldn’t get it. You have a cushy life style and you baby your daughter instead of actually raising her. We’re doing that ungrateful, spoiled brat a favor — we’re teaching her how to survive. You wouldn’t know the meaning of that with that silver spoon in your mouth.”
I don’t blame you for struggling with not making the siblings feel cliché— writing villainous characters gets 900x more difficult the second you don’t want to make them sympathetic. Ark was fairly simple for me to write, even in scrapped scenes where he was all-in with his villainous role during the events of the post-game. Twig’s aunt, meanwhile, gave me a heck of a hard time while I was developing her backstory.

🫵 You should talk about your OCs. (Please. Respectfully.)
I mean, if you insist :P
I feel like I should note, I created these characters when I was very young. Their stories changed as I grew up but they started as silly number characters I drew when I was bored in math class
This is a lil doodle I did of them recently that I’m not super happy with anymore but it’s close enough to what they will look like when I get around to redesigning them :)
Zero - My main character with strange magical abilities. She’s unlike anyone on the Number Line and wishes she had a place where she belonged. She would do anything for her friends and assures no one is left behind.
Thirteen - Zero and Googolplex’s classmate who is notorious for her bad luck, and struggles to make any lasting friendships. She disappears one night, and Zero is determined to find her
Googolplex - Zero’s childhood best friend, and extremely intelligent. She always has Zero’s back, goes along with her plans, and keeps her out of trouble when things go wrong.
Sixty-One - An acquaintance of Zero who asks for her help to find her sister after Zero successfully brings Thirteen home. She’ll do anything to find her sister so things can go back to the way they were.
Fifty-Nine - Sixty-One’s twin sister. She and her sister were separated at a very young age. Fifty-Nine believes Sixty-One abandoned her, and distrusts her and her friends when they come to save her
This is the most recent version of their characters, and I can assure you the story has changed dozens of times before and will absolutely change again as I figure out the type of story I want to tell, to what audience, and in what medium.
And to show you just how old these guys are, this is one of my first drawings of them

So now that we have a confirmed White Collar reboot… and we currently have Leverage Redemption…. We need an official crossover!! And I can already see how it’s going to go:
Naturally, notorious art thief Neal Caffrey and THE Parker have, of course, crossed paths before, at least once. So, when the leverage crew needs to send Parker into the FBI offices as Special Agent Hagen for the job for their latest client, and she runs into Neal…. Oh boy! Chaos ensues!
Will Neal keep quiet about recognizing Parker? Will Neal be able to resist getting involved in the delicious con that Leverage is conducting? Will he and the leverage team work together to help their client and/or solve the case Neal is working on with Peter? Or will Parker and Hardison both end up needing to retire their FBI aliases for good because Peter is just that damn observant and good of an FBI agent?
Ohhhh it would be amazing if they explored this concept!! And if the writers of either show don’t… I might just have to do it myself!

I don’t often talk about personal stuff but … I am so sick of being sick these days like I’ve been to the doctors and it’s nothing serious, I am okay. but like ughhhh I just need my health back. It’s not even serious like I am okay thankfully, really. it’s just so exhausting.
I am getting help, it’s just the fact that I need the help in the first place :/
Especially when I’ve already been so fucking busy this summer and now my health, like I really thought I could do things or try some new recipes or something this summer but oh well. Some things just don’t go to plan. I’m still having a lot of moments of happiness with family and friends (and comfort shows lmao) so I’m doing good. Yeah idk kind of shitty kind of good
