1. Are you named after anyone?  I’m sort of named after my aunt, who was named after a character of a TV show (that my grandfather liked) based of a book, and THAT character might of been named after someone. I admit it’s kind of amusing that it’s such a chain of ‘named after this person.’

2. Do you ever go window shopping on sites like Etsy, and if so, what kinds of things do you look at?   Not really.

3. What’s your choice of listening material when doing stuff? When I’m writing I prefer listing to music without lyrics (if it matches the tone of whatever I’m writing it helps) and it varies. Most often it’s video game music, Miyazaki, classical, etc. If I’m just doing art I’ll throw on YouTube videos.

4. Do you like a song for its sound or for its lyrics? Often both. I’m picky about what songs I like, but I like it when both work well together. (Though I hate it when the lyrics DON’T match the tone of the music, or aren’t sung in the right tone). Also, there’s some songs where I prefer the cover version over the original (I don’t care for Billie Eilish’s singing, and there’s a Motown version of Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it off’ by PostModern Jukebox that is vastly superior to the original version.)

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? Usually whatever they wear or else their physical appearance. It depends.

6. What’s your eye color? Green. (Though maybe they might be hazel since there’s a light brown ring around the pupils).

7. Scary movies or happy endings? I prefer happy endings. Some scary movies are actually quite enjoyable, but only if they are done right (Jordan Peele’s Nope is such an example). Otherwise I hate it when scary films get too violent, have a downer ending, or involve topics of abuse. Or have constant jumpscares, which is why I never really got into most horror games.

8. Any special talents? Singing. I’ve done choir, Opera, musical theater, etc. I’ve done some acting as well. Drawing and writing are pretty obvious ones for those who know my works. Painting is a major one too.

9. What trait in others draws you to them? Honesty is a huge one. I like it when people are open about themselves and what they like, as well as what they don’t like. Or if they tell you something you need to hear.

10. What are your hobbies? Writing and drawing. Painting is a big one too. I used to play video games but I don’t as much (partly because I feel like a new system is going to be coming soon anyway). I suppose singing could count.

11. Do you have any pets? I used to have cats. Fantasia was my last cat and I had her from middle school to some time after I was done with college/university. She always sat on the table whenever I got help with math and she’d watch me and my dad.

12. What sports do you play/Have played? Tennis is probably my favorite. Soccer is fun too. I used to do running when I was really little. However I was more of a theater kid.

13. How tall are you? 5 feet, 2 and a half inches.

14. Favorite subject in school? Literature/Language Arts. I was one of the few kids that would read whatever I was assigned more than once. When I was in middle school we had to read ‘The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe’ and ‘Roll of thunder hear my cry’ and I read the other books in those series. I also took pride in scoring the highest out of anyone on a test for Cyrano de Bergerac in my high school senior year. (However I ****ing hated reading Moby Dick over the summer) and was NOT happy when I found out that I didn’t really NEED to read the entire thing to do all the paperwork/answer all the questions.)

I don’t know if art and choir count since they were extra curricular classes, but I loved them as well and could share lots of stories. Plus one of my favorite teachers was my high school art teacher.

15. Dream job? I would love to be a writer and illustrate my own books. Alternatively it’d be awesome to do artwork for an animation studio.

Indie/Contemporary Folk

During and after the pandemic, my musical sensibilities shifted considerably based on my relationship with my immediate surroundings. Long story short, now that I didn't have to go to fucking Public School, it was a lot easier to realize that I lived in a beautiful town that I could explore and connect to all on my own.

This was the kind of music that I listened to while drinking tea on the porch with my cat, biking to the shore, walking into the woods, thinking about the boy i still liked. those days kind of served to clue me in that i was a real person with a real life to live i guess lol

Post-Punk (The Weird Kind)

I'm not very good with music labels so I really didn't know what Post-Punk entailed for a while. But looking into it, I realized it's a really broad label covering a lot of shit that I really like.

Post-punk mostly encompasses some of the experimental artsy type nerd music I like!! Devo! Talking Heads! Squid! Viagra Boys! Technically it also encompasses the gothic rock stuff above too but. Oh well. Hey you should listen to squid listen to them do it

hahaha this is funny because I was homeschooled for most of high school.

So I know that there are a lot of groups and clubs specifically for homeschooled kids, have you looked into anything like that?

Also I would suggest trying activities in larger towns/cities. Just statistically, there are going to be more queer people with a bigger population. Then, if I'm honest, I would go with the queer stereotype that theater/artsy kids are more likely to be queer because...well...it's not usually false LOL (sorry if I offend anyone, I don't mean to be offensive! obviously there are a lot of straight people who do those things too). A lot of cities and towns have local art facilities, music studios, theater groups, choruses, etc that you can get involved in, and I would guess that queer kids will be there. Some cities even have support groups and centers specifically for queer kids. You can look up if there are any in your area.

For the record, I'm sure there are queer kids in sports too, I just...didn't do sports as a kid, so I have no personal experience with that. If you live in the US, the local school district is required to allow you to join in on rec sports even though you're homeschooled, because you live within the district, so you could also join a team if that's more your thing.

I know that's a lot of options, but I'm not sure what you're into, so I hope that helps!

Reccomendations for Japan, like in general?? Kinda vague, but lemme think and also tag @doktorpeace and @draayder for their thoughts too

-If you're going to Tokyo, Kabukicho is a MUST. It's the entertainment district! If there's anywhere in Tokyo you're not gonna look like a dumbass for walking around and gawking at things. It's Kabukicho. And there's plenty to gawk at! The square outside of Toho theater usually has something going on, there's TONS of small music venues, @doktorpeace once said something like 'you could eat at a different restaurant every day for every meal for a year and not run out of good places to eat in Kabukicho' and they are SO right. As a bonus if you've ever played a Yakuza/LaD/RGG game you almost definitely know most of the layout already. Kabukicho is not hard to navigate at all, and I'm sure that's intentional. Anyway. Go to Kabukicho. Explore the Don Quixote. Eat the food. Take a picture with the Godzilla statue. 10/10

-Honestly? I expected Harajuku to be a lot more expensive than it was, but then again the USD has more buying power than usual in Japan? Anyway the thing about Tokyo is that people there are intimidatingly trendy, I went there and now I understand why Splatoon is like that, the youths of Tokyo will wear their heavy black visual kei outfits during record-breaking heatwaves because fashion is THAT important. Anyway it's real easy to find good-quality clothes for reasonable prices there, and also a bunch of thrift shops full of cool stuff! You'll find a sweater for any American pro or college sports team you can think of and that's a promise. Fair warning, shibuya thrifting will not be significantly cheaper than regular retail, unless you're shopping for traditional Japanese clothing, in which case you absolutely should and I reccomend a store called Chicago, they had a HUGE selection. Spinns is a good store too, they also have a website that I keep meaning to order stuff from.......

-Osaka is really cool, but if you're there you're gonna want to stop by the Amerika-mura part of town. Very cool, very artsy, it feels kinda like Shibuya, if Shibuya was more like New York? Kinda?? The point is that it's VERY cool over there, there's a lot of art and neat places to get snacks and clothing stores. Absolutely check it out if you can

-the best burger I've ever had in my life was the kobe beef burger at Kokopelli. The guy who runs the place spent a lot of time in the states. I greeted him in Japanese and he said back 'hey guys what's up' in a perfect Midwestern accent. Anyway extremely good. Get some burgers there if you can

As for video games...... @doktorpeace played through Pokemon Ultra Sun on the plane ride. Don’t do that. Just play regular Sun/Moon. I was playing a lot of Octopath Traveler 2 and The World Ends With You Neo on that trip myself, and my partners both took turns with Pikmin 4 (which had just come out).

If you have a 3ds, basically any Shin Megami Tensei game you can get running on there would be a good choice, I personally reccomend SMT4/SMT4 Apocalypse and SMT Soul Hackers in terms of native hardware, I'm sure you could get the PS1 smt on there with some homebrewing and elbow grease, it can emulate basically everything up to the Sega Saturn just fine. Also Etrian Odyssey is really good, play the Untold versions on 3ds for 1 and 2 and the re-release on Switch for 3. 4, 5, and Nexus are all 3ds native. There's also a mystery dungeon game but it's only okay.

But uuuuuuh if you have like...a steam deck there's a LOT of Baldur's Gate. Like a lot. This game is huge. There are also two entire Psychonauts games! Did you know that?? Did you know you can play Psychonauts?? Did you know that is a game y

Rae: I'm not sure, honestly. It's not that she isn't creative, but she's more into the language side of things than the art side. Though she might actually enjoy a dance class of some kind, especially since body control and coordination will help her out on missions.

Robin: Maybe sewing or making clothing? I could see her making her own sundress or something, even embroidering music notes or something on it, and it would come in handy when there's a costume emergency at the theater

Madison: already practices whittling/woodcarving, but maybe she'd like to pick up a few more technical skills while she has the chance. She does well, though she annoys the instructor because some of her techniques are very much NOT the way she's supposed to have been taught.

Ophelia: Computer modeling or 3D design. She's not really a pure-artsy person, but she's good at visualization and proportions from engineering, and learning how to model things will be useful for 3D printing or other projects of hers

Jasper: Clothing art, like learning how to tailor and upcycle their own clothing. It's something they've wanted to experiment more with.

Katherine: I mean, she's dabbled in all sorts of stuff as an artist herself, so she'll probably just pick whatever medium she hasn't tried out before and see how she likes it.

Kestrel: Takes a classic drawing class, just pencil and paper. They like sketching, and it'll be better for rendering out new magical creatures for their field notes

Quinn: Graffiti - she's already worked with it before, but it'll be nice to have a blank stretch of wall and a variety of colors to work with

Eris: Look, nobody wants to be in a class with Eris, nobody wants to teach a class with Eris, and Eris doesn't want to be in a class with anybody else. If Pippa gives the coupon to Rick then maybe he can persuade them into a swing dancing class with him, but Eris alone would probably end up cashing it in for a metalworking class, realizing they're making sculptures instead of weapons, making a weapon anyway, and getting kicked out with an armed escort.

Okay, so I’m really glad you’ve asked this question😊.

So, you are right about the OCs you listed:

Spirit is a culinary arts major (cooking). She’s just insanely good at it and it relaxes her, so it’s the perfect choice for her.

Aiden—as he said in his and Spirit’s first-date fic—wants to be a cop like his dad was.

Amberlynn majors in theater and acting. She loves musicals and singing and acting and doesn’t care if she winds up in Broadway or in regular films since she just wants to act.

Atticus is a med student. Not for any particular reason though. He just wants to be a doctor and live a comfortable life with a career that he’s totally smart enough for.

And as for the rest:

Birdie is a botany and biology major. She loves plants and is insanely good at taking care of them. She loves studying all living creatures and things, but plants are her main interest.

Isaac is a psychology major. He’s literally the therapist friend and is good at listening to people, giving them advice, or just being there for them. Therefore, he wants to be a licensed therapist.

Oliver is a journalism major. He loves reading and writing articles about events happening all over the world. He wants to be a writer at the New York Times or any other big newspaper firm.

Jordan is a computer science major. Her parent are the CEOs of a few major tech companies, and Jordan wants to take over the family business since she loves all things tech-related and knows that the job allows a lot of freedom for her to travel and stuff.

Eliana is an art major. She loves painting and has been auctioning off her artwork online since she was a teen. Art is relaxing and therapeutic to her, and it’s her biggest passion. Naturally, she’s just an artsy person.

Keiko, like Atticus, is also a med student. The only difference is that he already knows that he wants to specialize in pediatrics since he loves kids and wants to take care of them. He’d literally be the kind of doctor who wears fun scrubs and has little props and toys to make kids smile and laugh.

Lastly, Felix is a fashion major. He just loves designing and making clothes. If you take a picture of him, he will pose like a model because there’s a chance that his super stylish outfit is one that he made himself.

You caught me :). I definitely do put a lot of things that I love into writing so it makes it seem more realistic, I think it makes it easier for me to imagine myself as a character when I get writers block.

I can make the tiny animal things, I'm making mini frogs rn. And I'm also a theater kid, so pretty much every form of art is everything to me.

I'm not doing a whole lot of dance right now, usually color guard takes up most of my time (which is dance, and gymnastics, and throwing flags), but I did jazz, ballet, and hip hop. Really just anything that gets you moving to music is something I like. My favorite gymnastic skill is backbending, but I also like the splits (i can't do a handstand, i tried and i fell on my face, so i don't think i'm the best person to ask advice from).

So many favorite artists. Jax, girl in red, Billie Eilish, JVKE, Lorde, Natalie Jane. Dude, I could go on forever.

I picked my own. :) It's inspired by trees and - if you translate it - also works as a stripper name. Just in case!

When was the last time you cried?

A month or so maybe? I did get a lil misty watching foster dog run around like a normal canine last week, especially when he put weight on his wonky leg. He's had a lot of PT and it's paying off!

Do you have kids?

Nope.

ummm… I'm going to say weighing ingredients accurately without measuring, but that may more likely be practise and recklessness rather than talent.

Where were you born?

Within the same 30 miles that half my dreadful fambly have lived for literally 500 years, but we left before I was 18 months old and didn't go back for over a decade and then I escaped again. The next time I move will be #26, so it's fair to say I've bounced around.

What are your hobbies?

In no particular order, reading, writing, movies, knitting/crochet/fiber thingies, growing stuff, fixing stuff, animal rescue/welfare stuff, painting/sketching, music (listening/playing… poorly), photography (mostly analog; I love my shitty Soviet cameras and Polaroids), hiking when I can. Poking around thrift/antique stores/museums in places I haven't been. If I collect anything per se, it's recipes and myths/folklore.

Have you any pets?

No permanent residents rn, but two foster dogs, one short term (hopefully; she just needs to complete leash training and get a little clearer on the difference between Inside and Outside, otherwise she's a sweetheart) and one long term project dog. In his defence, he came to me semi-feral and had been through a particularly brutal kill shelter. He has a lot of scarring both internal and external. Took 6 months+ to touch him, and now he'll walk on a slip lead for me (sometimes) and (gasp!) voluntarily snuggle and ask for pets. If he can get over yelling at and/or trying to defensively herd anyone who isn't me, he's got a shot at a new home, at which point I will ugly cry but be so, so happy for him.

What sports do you play/have played?

I preferred weights n stuff when I was younger bc I detested team sports, but tennis, badminton, swimming etc are fun. I used to ride whenever I could with the fleeting ambition to one day do point to point and dressage, but a) equestrian shit is a time-consuming and expensive hobby (even if you know ppl with horses) and b) I had an argument with a fence post and broke bits of myself, and by the time that all healed up I'd developed unrelated chronic fatigue. Mostly I hang out with horses on the ground now, but I'd get back into it if I could.

How tall are you?

Five eight, billed height. Probably a bit less, idk. I stoop and I don't do all the pilates for my back that I should.

Favorite subject in school?

I was a horrible, horrible theater kid. Not even in the three a.m. Denny's way (I can't sing). The black turtleneck and Brecht way. Yes, I am still ashamed.

Dream job?

I'm very fortunate, so more or less what I do, but with less freelancing to stop up the gaps and more writing things I'm proud of in genres I love. I'm trying to move more towards that at the moment. Oh, and a lot less proofreading. Grammer iz hurd.

Well it's time to dive into Bruno the Ratman and the Rat's Lair !

(it's literally the name of the score for that scene, I can't... They really went and said "Bruno is one of the rats. He is either a small human or a tall rat, your pick.")

So, where does the Dork Knight live ?

Welcome to his humble abode in between the walls ! It ain't no palace but here are some details I want us all to appreciate...

☛ Bruno caring for his rats

Well, firstly, they're roaming free everywhere in the room...including where they shouldn't ! It seems like they took a liking to all kinds of brushes and it has me concerned for Bruno's personal hygiene... One of them is also currently in the pan in the foreground and now I'm concerned about the lack of easy access to water.

Anyway ! Rats are super cool, at least according to Pixar's Our Friend The Rat, so it's okay. Bruno probably knows about Emile's stance on rat/human's friendship, because he's constantly holding and feeding his little friends.

But here's the thing that really got to me...

Look, he made his rats' a little maze ! And a slide above it so they can do parkour just like him and have fun !

Which leads us to...

☛ Bruno's creativity

A defining trait of Bruno's personality is his imagination and love for crafts. There are many things to observe here, but I will start with the one that makes the most sense with what we were just talking about : the rat frames.

Bruno grabbed some empty frames that you can see in this shot :

And what does he use them for ?

He frames the drawings he made of his rats' adventures, like some people would do with their family pictures...

The rats are his found family.

Bruno is also a hell of a home designer, if you love recycling at least !

He made his rat's telenovela theater out of a crate, you can still see the handles.

The barrel chair is a classic, but it's so cool.

The bottle and the bucket lamps are beautiful ! (hey, looks like he has spare clothes similar to the ones he is already wearing, including one extra...is it poncho or ruana, have we figured that out yet ? I'm unsure)

☛ Bruno's green thumb

No sun. Not much water. He still manages to keep plants healthy. One of them is growing in a boot and doing so well a sprout is coming out of a hole !

Most of my plants died in better conditions than that. This screams Bruno supremacy.

A man of culture

Bruno managed to sneak books and music into his room and I love that it was one of his priorities to bring that in. Definitely the artsy type. (affectionate)

This could just be me projecting (and because I'm so PUMPED for the Back to the Future musical, I just wish I could see it NOW), but... I kinda HC Jennifer as being a theater kid? What's your opinion on that?

I can definitely see that. I wish we knew more about Jennifer. A closer look at her personality, her family, talents, etc. I had made a post about her a while back where I mentioned I headcanon her as being artsy and liking to sketch/paint. I can picture her being involved in theater as well. She seems pretty confident and sure of herself, so I can see her feeling comfortable on stage. She'd also be that person who is very gracious about any role she gets. Like, whether it's the main role or just a single line, she's happy, takes it seriously, and gets along well with everybody else.

This headcanon also gets bonus points for allowing the additional headcanon that Marty frequently gets roped into helping her rehearse her lines (which he doesn't actually mind), and Jen always tries to convince him to try out for the next play.

Extra bonus points if she gets Marty and Doc to help her rehearse and the whole thing quickly dissolves into chaos.

Imara does have a slight complex about being a twin because she feels like Rukiya is the cooler one despite people loving her too. She's loud and boisterous basically a chad, but better.
